The Council is aware that the European Commission is having an informal dialogue at technical level with US authorities with regard to the Enhanced Border Security Partnership, and is regularly informed with a view to promoting a concerted approach amongst EU Member States.
Although no formal proposal has yet been submitted to the Council by the US authorities, this issue has been discussed on several occasions in the recent months within various Council of the EU settings, taking into account the respect of the principles of proportionality and reciprocity.
