A new photo exhibition dedicated to the history of the construction of the longest metro ring line in the world, the Big Circle Line (BCL), has opened in the capital. The exhibition features 30 photographs depicting different stages of the work and the modern architectural appearance of the stations. The photos can be seen in the passage from the Prospekt Vernadskogo station of the BCL to the platform of the same name on the Sokolnicheskaya Line.
“Two years ago, Sergei Sobyanin launched the Big Circle Line. The opening of the new metro ring was one of the most significant events in the history of Moscow transport. The BCL made city residents’ trips more convenient and faster, the metro came to areas where it had not been before. The photo exhibition demonstrates not only the scale and complexity of the project, but also the beauty and functionality of the new stations,” said Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry
The main focus is on the before and after photographs, which show how the appearance of different metro stations integrated into the BCL has changed. For example, the photos of Varshavskaya, which opened after reconstruction on March 1, 2023, show what the station was like during the renovation and how it was transformed afterwards. Now it is decorated with black and white marble slabs and illuminated ceiling vaults, visually expanding the space.
Some of the photographs are dedicated to the history of the construction of Novatorskaya, which opened on December 7, 2021. The pictures show all stages of the work: from concrete walls to the final result – a modern, bright station.
Another exhibition, dedicated to the Big Circle Line, opened as part of the project “Art in the Metro” in the passage between the Savelovskaya stations of the Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya and Big Circle Lines. It will last until April 18.
