WASHINGTON, May 18 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday demanded the Federal Reserve cut rates “sooner rather than later,” lashing out at Fed Chairman Jerome Powell for failing to act.
“Almost everyone agrees that the Fed should cut rates sooner rather than later,” the US president wrote in a post on social media.
“Mr. ‘Too Late’ Powell, a man known for always being late, will probably fail again, but who knows?” Trump added.
The White House chief continued to express his displeasure with Powell, although he said the Fed chairman would remain in his post despite the president’s confidence that inflation is no longer a problem.
