XI’AN, May 31 (Xinhua) — Police in Xi’an, capital of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, said Saturday that a man was detained for damaging two artifacts protected by the state as second-class cultural relics.

On Friday at around 5:30 p.m., a 30-year-old man surnamed Sun broke through the protective barriers and jumped into the No. 3 archaeological excavation pit at the Qinshihuang Terracotta Warriors Museum, according to a statement released by the Xi’an Public Security Bureau’s Lintong District branch, where the museum is located.

The report said Sun damaged two statues of armoured warriors when he pushed and pulled them, adding that he had been found to be suffering from mental illness. -0-
