JAKARTA, July 3 (Xinhua) — Four people were confirmed dead, 38 were missing and 23 survived after a passenger ship sank off Indonesia’s Bali island early Thursday, a senior official with East Java’s search and rescue agency Toleb Watelehan said.
The wooden vessel, KM Tunu Pratama Jaya, was en route from Ketapang seaport in Banyuwangi province, East Java, to Gilimanuk seaport in Jembrana province on Bali island, the official said.
“Up to 23 people survived the incident, four died and 38 remain missing,” T. Vatelehan told Xinhua by telephone.
Search and rescue operations are underway from both Bali and East Java as the incident occurred near the maritime border between the two. Bali Search and Rescue Agency chief I Nyoman Sidakarya confirmed the joint efforts. –0–
