BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) — The Chinese government recently released a document aimed at strengthening social support for children in difficult situations.
The document, titled “Considerations on Further Strengthening the Work to Ensure the Welfare of Children in Difficulty,” was released by the Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.
It is necessary to give additional impetus to the work of meeting basic life needs and providing medical care and rehabilitation services to these children, the document emphasizes.
The Views call for equal access to education for children, improved special education services and improved educational assistance measures. It also highlights the importance of establishing a mental health system and strengthening protection for the personal safety of children.
In addition, it is important to improve the state system of guardianship and trusteeship and to clarify the role of social security institutions in providing such support to children, the document says.
According to the document, local authorities must, considering ensuring the welfare of children in need as an important component of work in the field of population, include this issue in the plan for socio-economic development and in the agenda, increase the corresponding investments, and carry out coordinated activities in this direction. -0-
