AMMAN, June 2 (Xinhua) — The delegation of the Arab Islamic Ministerial Committee on Sunday reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to end Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip and begin the process of ensuring the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent, sovereign state on their national soil.

The delegation held a virtual meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman after Israel blocked the delegation’s planned visit to Ramallah, according to a statement from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.

During the meeting, M. Abbas praised the efforts of the ministerial committee to mobilize international support to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, put an end to the humanitarian “catastrophe” in the enclave and promote the implementation of the “two states for two peoples” principle.

He stressed the Palestinian government’s commitment to the reform agenda and called for increased international political, economic and security support for its efforts.

At a press conference following the meeting, the delegation stressed that the principle of “two states for two peoples” is the only path to a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

Arab ministers also pledged to step up efforts to encourage more countries to recognize a Palestinian state.

The delegation includes Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdel Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abu Al Gheit and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al Safadi. –0–
