HOHHOT, June 16 (Xinhua) — Ulan Suhai Lake, the largest wetland in the Yellow River basin, has become a paradise for mute swans thanks to improved ecological environment.
According to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Forestry and Grassland Administration, with the continuous comprehensive management of Ulan Suhai Lake in recent years, its ecological conditions have improved and its biodiversity has continued to recover. Every year, the lake becomes a migration and breeding ground for more than 260 species of birds, including a large number of mute swans, which are under the second-category national protection in China.
In order to create a favorable and safe environment for mute swans, local forestry and steppe management departments have taken a number of special measures, including the establishment of control stations, bird feeding stations, bird habit monitoring stations, and a pier for their protection and management in wetlands. In addition, special personnel have been appointed to regularly monitor the situation related to the habitation and reproduction of mute swans.
Let us recall that Ulan-Suhai Lake, located in the territory of Urad-Qianqi khoshun of Bayannur city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in northern China, is known as the “Pearl behind the Great Wall”. -0-
