Statement from Premier Pillai on the 20th anniversary of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation Final and Self-Government Agreements
Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:
“Congratulations to Kwanlin Dün First Nation on 20 years of self-government. On February 19, 2005, the Yukon, federal and Kwanlin Dün First Nation governments signed the Kwanlin Dün First Nation Final and Self-Government Agreements.
“This significant anniversary is a testament to the vision, determination and unwavering dedication of those who worked to negotiate these agreements and those who continue to implement them.
“Over the last two decades, Kwanlin Dün First Nation Citizens have shown tremendous leadership, fostering economic growth, social wellbeing and environmental stewardship within their Traditional Territory with endeavours such as Chu Níikwän Place and the wind farm on Haeckel Hill (Thäy Täw).
“In working to enhance the quality of life for their Citizens, promote sustainable development and strengthen community resilience, Kwanlin Dün First Nation’s priorities and actions benefit their Citizens and those who live on their Traditional Territory. This is truly commendable and an inspiration for all.
“On behalf of the Government of Yukon, I express my congratulations and our commitment to continue working together to implement these agreements. I look forward to continuing to deepen our relationship and achieving more milestones together in the years to come.
“My sincere best wishes to Kwanlin Dün First Nation and their Citizens on this milestone.”
