MIL-OSI Europe: Written question – Fertilisers – E-000782/2025

Source: European Parliament

Question for written answer  E-000782/2025/rev.1
to the Commission
Rule 144
Maria Grapini (S&D)

The agricultural fertiliser industry has been in significant decline in recent years, and this has been mirrored in a fall in production among European producers.

The European Fertilizer Manufacturers Association has complained about problems in relation to imports from Russia at prices below those on the European market owing to the increase in gas prices in the EU as compared to Russia.

  • 1.The official announcement by the Commission in January 2025 that additional tariffs were to be imposed on imports from Belarus and Russia could improve the situation for EU fertilizer producers. Why, though, are the penalties relating to the ban on imports from Russia not being enforced?
  • 2.Is the increase in tariffs sufficient to ensure fair competition on the EU market and to maintain production capacities and preserve the thousands of jobs in this sector?
