Question for written answer E-001213/2025
to the Council
Rule 144
Siegbert Frank Droese (ESN)
Article 1(7)(b) of Council Regulation (EU) 2024/1745 of 24 June 2024 […] amends Article 3ea(3)(a) of Council Regulation (EU) No 833/2014 of 31 July 2014 […] in such a way that replicas of historical ships are made subject to the EU’s sanctions against the Russian Federation.
- 1.How does the Council justify making replicas of historical vessels subject to the EU’s sanctions against the Russian Federation, and what specific security or economic risks does this move intend to address?
- 2.To what extent does the Council consider that this ruling presents a risk of sanction overreach, which ultimately affects cultural and/or historical projects rather than actual security-related areas?
- 3.Has the Council assessed whether this measure imposes a disproportionate burden on EU citizens, businesses or museums cooperating with Russian partners in the field of maritime history?
