  • MIL-OSI USA: Senators Collins, Smith, King Introduce Bill to Combat Lyme and Other Tick-Borne Diseases

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for Maine Susan Collins

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Tina Smith (D-MN) today introduced legislation to reauthorize the Kay Hagan Tick Act, their landmark legislation to improve research, prevention, diagnostics, and treatment for tick-borne diseases, which became law in 2019. Senator Angus King (I-ME) joins them as an original co-sponsor. The Kay Hagan Tick Act unites the effort to confront the alarming public health threat posed by Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases. Confirmed cases of Lyme disease reached a record number in Maine – 3,035 – last year. Senators Collins and Smith named their bill in honor of former Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC) who passed away on October 28th, 2019, due to complications from the tick-borne disease known as the Powassan virus.

“Last year, Maine reported over 3,000 cases of Lyme disease—a record in our state. The reauthorization of our Tick Act is urgently needed to continue to support those who struggle with Lyme and other tick-borne illnesses and keep improving research, diagnostics, treatment, and prevention for these terrible diseases,” said Senator Collins. “Resources from the Tick Act have led to exciting developments such as the first-ever clinical trial for a Lyme disease vaccine for people, which is underway right now at the MaineHealth Institute for Research.”

“My home state of Minnesota is proud to have more than 10,000 lakes and thousands of rivers for us to enjoy, and we’re always especially eager to get outside after a long winter,” said Senator Smith. “Unfortunately, the number of Lyme disease cases in the state—and states across the country—is on the rise. This bill would empower regional centers to lead the response against these diseases and expanded the federal government’s role in researching, testing and treating these diseases. For the sake of Americans’ health and well-being, we need to keep moving this bill forward.”

“Our state has been battling diseases like Lyme for decades, so it is critical we continue to invest in our research and understanding of these vector-borne diseases to better protect Maine residents and visitors,” said Senator King. “The Kay Hagan Tick Act will further the prevention efforts that keep us safe by funding research, testing and diagnostics along with resources for improved data collection. I am proud to work on this critical bipartisan legislation that will help mitigate this long-term public health threat for the future safety and health of all Maine people.”

“Reauthorizing the Kay Hagan Tick Act will continue the nation’s coordinated framework for tick-borne disease surveillance, diagnostics, and prevention”, said Griffin Dill, Director of the University of Maine Tick Lab. Continued support means earlier detection, targeted interventions, and fewer families facing the physical and financial burden of Lyme disease and other emerging infections. Through this investment, Congress can ensure a proactive approach to safeguarding our communities from increasing threats related to ticks.”

“With an estimated 500,000 new cases of Lyme disease each year, it is critical that the United States is equipped to effectively prevent, detect, and respond to this growing public health threat,” said Bonnie Crater, co-founder and board member at Center for Lyme Action. “We applaud the foundation laid by the Kay Hagan Tick Act, which established the National Public Health Strategy to Prevent and Control Vector-Borne Diseases in Humans and we are committed to working with Congress and federal agencies to ensure this strategy is fully implemented and strengthened.  We commend Senator Collins, Senator King, and Senator Smith for their bipartisan leadership in advancing the reauthorization of this vital legislation to protect the health and safety of Americans nationwide.”

Using a three-pronged approach, the Kay Hagan Tick Reauthorization Act would:

    1. Require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to continue implementing and updating, as appropriate, its National Public Health Strategy to Prevent and Control Vector-Borne Diseases in People.  This strategy has been integral in expanding research into tick-borne diseases, improving testing and diagnostics, and coordinating efforts across the federal government.
    1. Reauthorize Regional Centers of Excellence in Vector-Borne Disease for five years. Funding for these centers, which was allotted in 2017, expires this year. These Centers have led the scientific response against tick-borne diseases, which now make up 75 percent of vector-borne diseases in the U.S.  There are four centers located at universities in California, Florida, Texas, and Wisconsin.
    1. Reauthorize CDC Grants to State Health Departments to improve data collection and analysis, support early detection and diagnosis, improve treatment, and raise awareness.  These awards would help states continue to build a public health infrastructure for Lyme and other vector-borne diseases and amplify their initiatives through public-private partnerships.

In May, Senator Collins delivered the opening remarks at the Center for Lyme Action Congressional Series and spoke to the need for continued federal funding for tick-borne disease research. Click here to watch and here to download her remarks. Senator Collins has also urged leading health officials to continue to support the development of treatment for these illnesses, including the clinical trials currently ongoing in Maine for the first Lyme disease vaccine for people.

Senator King is a longtime advocate for the elimination of vector-borne diseases. His SMASH Act, bipartisan legislation to reauthorize critical public health tools that support states and localities in their mosquito surveillance and control efforts, especially those linked to mosquitos that carry the Zika virus, and improve the nation’s preparedness for Zika and other mosquito-borne threats like West Nile virus, chikungunya, and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (“triple-e”) virus was signed into law in 2019. A re-authorization of SMASH was introduced in 2023 and included in the Pandemic All-Hazards Preparedness Act Reauthorization.

  • MIL-OSI Canada: Competition Bureau reaches agreement with oilfield services company to preserve competition in the Canadian oil and natural gas industry

Source: Government of Canada News (2)

July 16, 2025 – GATINEAU (Québec), Competition Bureau

The Competition Bureau has reached a consent agreement with Schlumberger Limited (Schlumberger) to address competition concerns related to its proposed acquisition of ChampionX Corporation (ChampionX). The two companies provide oilfield services in Canada.

A Bureau review concluded that the proposed transaction would likely result in a substantial lessening of competition in the supply of critical oilfield services and equipment in Canada.

Specifically, the review determined that the transaction is likely to lead to reduced innovation and access for three products: polycrystalline diamond (PCD) cutters; PCD bearings; and quartz transducers. These products are used as inputs in the construction of drill bits for oil and gas wells and in the provision of directional drilling services and well completion services.

To resolve the Bureau’s concerns, Schlumberger has agreed to sell US Synthetic, a subsidiary of ChampionX and manufacturer of PCD cutters and bearings, and to license intellectual property relating to quartz transducers owned by Quartzdyne, another business of ChampionX. The Bureau is satisfied that these actions address the competition concerns arising from the proposed transaction.

The Bureau acknowledges the parties’ cooperation throughout the review to address the Bureau’s concerns.

Headline: Coast Guard seizes over 240,000 pounds of cocaine, doubling amount interdicted over previous year

    strong>WASHINGTON – The U

    S

Coast Guard announced that it has seized 242,244 pounds of cocaine since the start of President Trump’s administration on January 20th

This is a more than 100% increase over the cocaine seized under the previous administration over the same period in 2024

    Since just 1

2 grams of cocaine can be lethal, the Coast Guard has seized over 91 million potentially lethal doses — enough to kill the entire population of the states of California, Texas, and New York combined

This milestone comes after President Trump ordered a surge of Coast Guard resources to America’s maritime border on his first day in office, tripling the number of forces along the U

    S

    southern border and maritime approaches

    “The U

    S

southern border is an interconnected system, and as illegal migration and smuggling become harder across the southwest land border, cartels may try different routes,” said Coast Guard Acting Commandant Adm

    Kevin Lunday

“Our message to the cartels is this: We own the sea, not you

Using every capability at our disposal, the Coast Guard will prevent threats from reaching our borders

    ”
“Thanks to the heroic and diligent work of the men and women of the U

    S

Coast Guard, these drugs will never hit American streets to poison our communities and destroy American families,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin

“Securing our maritime borders is critical to making America safe again

Under President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership, the Coast Guard is getting the resources and support it needs to fulfill its mission like never before

Under the President’s leadership, Secretary Noem is implementing Force Design 2028, a full-scale effort to transform the Coast Guard into a more agile, capable, and responsive force

This effort will make the Coast Guard even more effective maritime force, empowering it to crack down on the international drug trade and keep deadly drugs like cocaine and fentanyl out of American communities

80 percent of all US-bound drugs are seized on the high seas, and the Coast Guard is the primary force charged with interdicting those drugs and breaking up international maritime drug smuggling rings

  • MIL-OSI USA: NASA’s SpaceX Crew-11 Mission Gears Up for Space Station Research

    Source: NASA

A host of scientific investigations await the crew of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-11 mission during their long-duration expedition aboard the International Space Station. NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Kimiya Yui, are set to study plant cell division and microgravity’s effects on bacteria-killing viruses, as well as perform experiments to produce a higher volume of human stem cells and generate on-demand nutrients.
Here are details on some of the research scheduled during the Crew-11 mission:

A stem cell investigation called StemCellEx-IP1 evaluates using microgravity to produce large numbers of induced pluripotent stem cells. Made by reprogramming skin or blood cells, these stem cells can transform into any type of cell in the body and are used in regenerative medicine therapies for many diseases. However, producing enough cells on the ground is a challenge.
Researchers plan to use the microgravity environment aboard the space station to demonstrate whether generating 1,000 times more cells is possible and whether these cells are of higher quality and better for clinical use than those made on Earth. If proven, this could significantly improve future patient outcomes.
“This type of stem cell research is a chance to find treatments and maybe even cures for diseases that currently have none,” said Tobias Niederwieser of BioServe Space Technologies, which developed the investigation. “This represents an incredible potential to make life here on Earth better for all of us. We can take skin or blood cells from a patient, convert them into stem cells, and produce custom cell-therapy with little risk for rejection, as they are the person’s own cells.”

Genes in Space is a series of competitions in which students in grades 7 through 12 design DNA experiments that are flown to the space station. Genes in Space-12 examines the effects of microgravity on interactions between certain bacteria and bacteriophages, which are viruses that infect and kill bacteria. Bacteriophages already are used to treat bacterial infections on Earth.
“Boeing and miniPCR bio co-founded this competition to bring real-world scientific experiences to the classroom and promote molecular biology investigations on the space station,” said Scott Copeland of Boeing, and co-founder of Genes in Space. “This investigation could establish a foundation for using these viruses to treat bacterial infections in space, potentially decreasing the dependence on antibiotics.”
“Previous studies indicate that bacteria may display increased growth rates and virulence in space, while the antibiotics used to combat them may be less effective,” said Dr. Ally Huang, staff scientist at miniPCR bio. “Phages produced in space could have profound implications for human health, microbial control, and the sustainability of long-duration remote missions. Phage therapy tools also could revolutionize how we manage bacterial infections and microbial ecosystems on Earth.”

Some vitamins and nutrients in foods and supplements lose their potency during prolonged storage, and insufficient intake of even a single nutrient can lead to serious diseases, such as a vitamin C deficiency, causing scurvy. The BioNutrients-3 experiment builds on previous investigations looking at ways to produce on-demand nutrients in space using genetically engineered organisms that remain viable for years. These include yogurt and a yeast-based beverage made from yeast strains previously tested aboard station, as well as a new, engineered co-culture that produces multiple nutrients in one sample bag.
“BioNutrients-3 includes multiple food safety features, including pasteurization to kill microorganisms in the sample and a demonstration of the feasibility of using a sensor called E-Nose that simulates an ultra-sensitive nose to detect pathogens,” said Kevin Sims, project manager at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley.
Another food safety feature is a food-grade pH indicator to track bacterial growth.
“These pH indicators help the crew visualize the progress of the yogurt and kefir samples,” Sims said. “As the organisms grow, they generate lactic acid, which lowers the pH and turns the indicator pink.”
The research also features an investigation of yogurt passage, which seeds new cultures using a bit of yogurt from a finished bag, much like maintaining a sourdough bread starter. This method could sustain a culture over multiple generations, eliminating concerns about yogurt’s shelf life during a mission to the Moon or Mars while reducing launch mass.

The JAXA Plant Cell Division investigation examines how microgravity affects cell division in green algae and a strain of cultured tobacco cells. Cell division is a fundamental element of plant growth, but few studies have examined it in microgravity.
“The tobacco cells divide frequently, making the process easy to observe,” said Junya Kirima of JAXA. “We are excited to reveal the effects of the space environment on plant cell division and look forward to performing time-lapse live imaging of it aboard the space station.”
Understanding this process could support the development of better methods for growing plants for food in space, including on the Moon and Mars. This investigation also could provide insight to help make plant production systems on Earth more efficient.
For nearly 25 years, people have lived and worked continuously aboard the International Space Station, advancing scientific knowledge and conducting critical research for the benefit of humanity and our home planet. Space station research supports the future of human spaceflight as NASA looks toward deep space missions to the Moon under the Artemis campaign and in preparation for future human missions to Mars, as well as expanding commercial opportunities in low Earth orbit and beyond.

  • MIL-OSI: Matador Technologies Inc. Board Approves Long-Term Bitcoin Treasury Acquisition Strategy

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

    Key Highlights

    • Strategic objective: develop a strategy to grow Matador’s Bitcoin treasury to position the Company to be a significant corporate BTC holder.
    • Treasury product flywheel: balance sheet growth is reinvested into BTC-denominated product revenues.
    • Financing readiness: Matador has filed a preliminary short-form base shelf prospectus to provide capital-raising flexibility over the next 25 months.
    • Disciplined execution: All initiatives remain subject to market conditions, financing availability, and any additional regulatory or board approvals.

TORONTO, July 16, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Matador Technologies Inc. (TSXV:MATA, OTCQB:MATAF, FSE:IU3) (“Matador” or the “Company”) announces that its Board of Directors (the “Board”) has recently approved the initiation of a treasury plan to pursue the accumulation of up to 6,000 Bitcoin on or before 2027. The Board also ratified an interim objective of 1,000 BTC on or before 2026. Matador currently holds 77.4 BTC and BTC equivalents and has a long-term objective to hold 1% of Bitcoin’s supply and be a top 20 corporate holder globally.

    BTC Holdings and Strategic Objectives

Matador currently holds 77.4 BTC and BTC equivalents, and is currently considering various financing alternatives to acquire additional Bitcoin, with indicative targets of acquiring up to 1,000 BTC on or before 2026 and 6,000 BTC on or before 2027. These targets are indicative only and should not be construed as financial projections.

Based on certain illustrative assumptions, if the full CAD $900 million available under the base shelf prospectus were used to acquire Bitcoin, and assuming an average purchase price of CAD $151,659 per BTC (based on the average daily closing price over the past two weeks as of July 13, 2025), this would represent approximately 5,934 BTC. When added to the Company’s existing holdings of approximately 77 BTC, this would total approximately 6,011 BTC, which aligns with the Company’s 2027 target. These assumptions are for illustrative purposes only.

Acquisition of any additional Bitcoin by the Company is subject to various factors, including financing availability, prevailing market conditions, and any required regulatory consents. The cost of acquiring Bitcoin will depend on prevailing market conditions and may vary materially. The Company will assess all acquisitions based on price, timing, and capital impact. Matador will evaluate funding options based on prevailing market conditions and investor appetite, with a focus on maximizing Bitcoin per Share (“BPS”) while maintaining a strong capital structure. No assurance can be given that any financing alternative will be available on terms acceptable to the Company or at all.

    Funding Strategy

To execute the plan, Matador may employ:

    • At-the-market (ATM) equity offerings;
    • Convertible or structured financings;
    • Divestiture of non-core assets;
    • BTC-backed credit facilities; and
    • Strategic acquisitions or partnerships that aim to boost BPS.

To support its objectives, Matador has filed a preliminary short-form base shelf prospectus (“Shelf Prospectus”) for CAD $900M with the securities regulatory authorities in the Provinces of Canada, other than Quebec, on July 11, 2025, which remains subject to review by applicable securities regulators. Subject to regulatory approval, if approved, the final version of the Shelf Prospectus will permit the Company to issue equity, debt or units from time to time over a 25-month period, providing flexibility to align capital raising with market windows.

“Our business is structured around Bitcoin as a core asset,” said Deven Soni, CEO of Matador Technologies. “This approach extends beyond treasury management to include infrastructure and operational components aligned with the Bitcoin ecosystem. Execution is subject to financing, market conditions and regulatory approval.”

“Holding Bitcoin as a treasury asset allows us to align with a fixed-supply, globally accessible monetary network,” said Mark Moss, Chief Visionary Officer of Matador Technologies. “Our future plans to accumulate Bitcoin are designed to establish long-term stability on our balance sheet while reducing exposure to inflationary risk. Execution is subject to financing, market conditions and regulatory approval.”

A New Era of Bitcoin-Backed Business

Matador’s strategy is built on a compounding flywheel that integrates treasury allocation, financial innovation, and real-world product development:

    1. Strategically Accumulate Bitcoin: acquire Bitcoin in a shareholder-friendly manner with the goal of maximizing BPS.
    2. Generate Treasury Yield: implement advanced treasury strategies designed to monetize Bitcoin’s volatility, including BTC Volatility Capture Yield Mining and synthetic Bitcoin mining.
    3. Build Real-World Applications: launch Bitcoin-native financial products, through its proprietary Digital Asset Platform that digitizes assets on the Bitcoin Blockchain. These products aim to generate revenue in Bitcoin, directly increasing the Company’s BPS.
    4. Support the Ecosystem: partner with builders and developers across the Bitcoin ecosystem, including Layer 2 protocols, Bitcoin-native DeFi, and custody or infrastructure platforms, to accelerate innovation and adoption.
    5. Advance the Global Bitcoin Treasury Model: beginning with our minority investment in HODL Systems (India) announced on May 29, 2025, while actively evaluating additional jurisdictions where Bitcoin treasury adoption is accelerating. Inspired by the observed case studies of international public companies holding Bitcoin as a treasury reserve, Matador believes India offers a conducive market for BTC treasury adoption.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Salazar Introduces Historic Bipartisan DIGNITY Act to Finally Fix America’s Broken Immigration System

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar’s (FL-27)

strong>WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (FL-27) and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) introduced a new and improved version of the DIGNITY Act – the DIGNITY Act of 2025: a bold, historic, and commonsense immigration reform bill.

They were joined by a group of 20 members including Reps.Mike Lawler (NY-17), David Valadao (CA-22), Dan Newhouse (WA-04), Mike Kelly (PA-16), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Gabe Evans (CO-08), Marlin Stutzman (IN-03), Don Bacon (NE-02), Young Kim (MA-04), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), Hillary Scholten (MI-03), Susie Lee (NV-03), Adam Gray (CA-13), Salud Carbajal (CA-24), Mike Levin (CA-49), Nikki Budzinski (IL-13), Laura Gillen (NY-04), and Jake Auchincloss (MA-04).

At a press conference held at the U.S. Capitol, Rep. Salazar outlined a revolutionary path forward to fix a system that has been broken for decades.

“The Dignity Act of 2025 is a revolutionary bill that offers the solution to our immigration crisis: secure the border, stop illegal immigration, and provide an earned opportunity for long-term immigrants to stay here and work,” said Congresswoman Salazar. “No amnesty. No handouts. No citizenship. Just accountability and a path to stability for our economy and our future.”

“I have seen firsthand the devastating consequences of our broken immigration system, and as a member of Congress, I take seriously my obligation to propose a solution. Realistic, common-sense compromise is achievable, and is especially important given the urgency of this moment. I consider the Dignity Act of 2025 a critical first step to overhauling this broken system,” said Congresswoman Escobar. “Immigrants – especially those who have been in the United States for decades – make up a critical component of our communities and also of the American workforce and economy. The vast majority of immigrants are hard-working, law-abiding residents; and, most Americans recognize that it is in our country’s best interest to find bipartisan reforms. We can enact legislation that incorporates both humanity and security, and the Dignity Act of 2025 offers a balanced approach that restores dignity to people who have tried to navigate a broken system for far too long. The reintroduction of this legislation includes changes that reflect the challenges in today’s political environment. I’m proud of my bipartisan work with Representative Salazar, who has been a strong partner on this issue since December 2022. It is our hope that Congress seizes the opportunity to take an important step forward on this issue.”

The Dignity Act delivers a long-overdue solution: it secures the border, restores law and order, revitalizes the American Workforce, and allows certain long-term undocumented immigrants to earn legal status, without amnesty or a path to citizenship. The bill restores order while offering a tough but fair opportunity for those who have contributed to the country.

Unlike past efforts, the DIGNITY Act is fully funded through restitution payments and application fees made by immigrants, requiring NO taxpayer dollars.

“In conversations across NY-17, I’ve heard a lot of frustration, both from employers struggling to fill jobs and families looking to reunite with their loved ones,” said Congressman Lawler. “We must do this by fixing our broken legal immigration system, securing our borders, and creating a fair, earned process for those who are already here and contributing. The Dignity Act honors America’s legacy of being a nation of immigrants and that’s why I’m proud to support it.”

“As the grandson of Mexican immigrants and a former cop and soldier, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of a secure border and a fair immigration system,” said Congressman Evans. “I’m proud to help introduce Congresswoman Salazar’s bipartisan DIGNITY Act, which prioritizes border security while delivering a practical solution for immigrants who want to work hard, follow our laws, and be productive members of society. Our legislation accomplishes what Latino business owners and community members have been asking for: give immigrants positively contributing to our community an opportunity to pursue the American Dream.”

Key provisions of the Dignity Act include:

    • Border Security: Fully funds modern border infrastructure and enforcement.
    • Mandatory E-Verify: Prevents illegal hiring and protects American jobs.
    • Asylum Reform: Ends catch-and-release, and ensures timely and credible outcomes.
    • Dreamer Protections: Grants legal status and a path to permanent residency.
    • The Dignity Program: A 7-year earned legal status program allowing undocumented immigrants to live and work legally, with renewable status based on good conduct and restitution.
    • Workforce Development: Expands training, apprenticeships, and education for American workers.
    • Legal Immigration Reform: Updates visa categories to align with 21st-century economic needs.

With growing bipartisan support and endorsements from immigration groups, faith leaders, businesses, the agricultural sector, educators, and community leaders, the Dignity Act presents the strongest and most viable opportunity in years to achieve meaningful, lasting immigration reform.

The legislation acknowledges a key truth: most undocumented individuals are not seeking citizenship at all costs, but rather the dignity of living and working legally, contributing to society, paying taxes, being safe from deportation, and traveling to see family during the holidays.

At the same time, the Dignity Act makes clear that this will be the final fix, because real border security and enforcement must be in place to prevent future crises.

    WHY NOW?

The immigration crisis is no longer confined to border towns. From the recent riots in Los Angeles to overwhelmed communities across the country, the consequences of a broken system are unfolding in plain sight. Millions live in the shadows, our economy suffers from labor shortages, and the border remains a flashpoint of national concern.

For too long, Congress has failed to act, leaving communities, law enforcement, and immigrants caught in a system that doesn’t work.

The Dignity Act delivers a real solution: secure the border and provide undocumented immigrants who meet strict conditions with an earned opportunity to live and work legally, with dignity and accountability.

It balances compassion with law and order.

This is a defining moment to act. The American people want security, dignity, and a system that works. The Dignity Act makes that possible.

    BACKGROUND:

For generations, the United States has been a beacon of hope for those fleeing violence, seeking opportunity, and building a better life. But our broken immigration system has left too many in the shadows and too many Americans without answers.

The Dignity Act reaffirms that while we are a nation of laws, we are also a nation of second chances. By restoring order and creating a clear, enforceable process, this legislation renews the American legacy of hope and opportunity.

  • MIL-OSI: Hylite Launches with Great Wolf Lodge Nationwide to Bring Real-Time Employee Recognition to Over 13,000 Employees

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

Chicago, July 16, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Great Wolf Lodge, North America’s largest family of indoor water park resorts, has partnered with Hylite, a leading web-based platform for frontline employee recognition, to relaunch the High Paws Recognition Program as a fully digital employee engagement program. Now live across all 22 U.S. resort locations and the corporate support center, the program empowers over 13,000 employees, affectionately known as Pack Members, to feel valued and rewarded for their hard work.

Hylite is web-based, with no app to download or logins to create, making it easy for guests and Pack Members to recognize meaningful moments, like entertaining a child with a magic trick or remembering a family’s drink order from the day before. Each recognition prompts a real-time text or email, keeping appreciation specific and timely.

In the dynamic hospitality setting, where non-desk teams span across shifts, departments, and locations, this immediacy ensures that great work never goes unnoticed. Recognition brings a greater sense of purpose and connection to the job and, in turn, helps Great Wolf Lodge deliver its mission of Bringing Joy to Families.

“Our Pack goes above and beyond to bring joy to families every single day, and it was important for us to offer a way for our guests and fellow Pack Members to share recognition when special moments are being created,” said Rachel O’Connell, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Great Wolf Resorts, “Partnering with Hylite gives us a best-in-class tool that captures those everyday moments of excellence and ensures that gratitude reaches the Pack Members who make the magic happen.”

In 2024, two pilot locations generated approximately 10,000 guest reviews, recognizing nearly 70% of all team members. Since the peer-to-peer recognition feature launched in March 2025, Pack Members have sent more than 40,000 employee Hylites, roughly translating to one recognition per employee per month.

Through Hylite’s easy-to-use platform, guests also have the option to instantly copy their message to Google Reviews. For May 2025, Hylite is credited with 20% of 5-star reviews across all 22 national locations.

“Great Wolf Lodge is known for adopting technology that enhances both the guest and pack experience,” said Marissa Fetter Hochster, CEO of Hylite. “Hylite fit right into that strategy. It was also a natural extension of their existing ‘High Paws’ program, which had previously been paper-based and internal. By moving it online and inviting guest participation, Great Wolf Lodge is setting a new standard for frontline recognition.”

As a result of the rollout, Pack Members feel appreciated, and Great Wolf Lodge guests experience exceptional service. High Paws is now live across all Great Wolf Lodge resorts nationwide, as well as the corporate support center.

  • MIL-OSI Africa: SA’s G20 Presidency aims for sustainable economic growth, job creation

    Source: Government of South Africa

As the Chair of the Group of 20 (G20), South Africa’s goal is to promote mutually beneficial economic growth, create jobs and advance sustainable development for its partner nations, says Deputy President Paul Mashatile.

Mashatile was speaking during the opening ceremony of the China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) in Beijing on Wednesday. The event showcases the latest developments in supply chain management.

The Deputy President told the attendees that South Africa firmly believes that the establishment of enduring business relationships must occur within the framework of a fair, inclusive, and rules-based global economic order.

“This order should prioritise industrialisation, investment in green technologies, and digital infrastructure as key components of sustainable development, especially for developing economies.”

These priorities, according to the country’s second-in-command, are reflected in the overall CISCE programme, which closely aligns with areas of potential cooperation between South Africa and China.

“We, therefore, invite our Chinese counterparts to support and participate in the key pillars of our G20 agenda by investing in green industrial projects, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and regional manufacturing initiatives in South Africa and across the African continent.

“Through such collaboration, we can deepen our strategic partnership and ensure that the outcomes of South Africa’s G20 Presidency reflect the shared aspirations of the Global South,” he said.

  • MIL-OSI Europe: The BRICS + summit in Brazil raises the banner of multilateralism

Source: Agenzia Fides – MIL OSI

    Wednesday, 16 July 2025

    Alexandre Brum – BRICS Brasil

by Cosimo GrazianiRio de Janeiro (Agenzia Fides) – On July 6 and 7, the annual summit of the so-called BRICS countries took place in Rio de Janeiro. This forum of states was founded in 2009 and has grown in recent years to include eleven countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran. This year’s meeting was preceded by a series of events that affected its members and fueled expectations about its implementation, most notably the brief conflict between Israel and Iran, in which the United States intervened on the side of the Jewish state. However, expectations of a clear stance on this and other issues were dashed. The geopolitical actor that best took advantage of the international visibility associated with the summit was the host country, Brazil, which organized events such as the G20 summit last year, assumed the presidency of MERCOSUR, and will host the next UN climate conference. This series of events, which also included the organization of the BRICS Summit, enabled the Brazilian government to reaffirm its international stance in favor of multilateralism. Multilateralism was also the first topic addressed by Brazilian President Lula in his introductory speech. Luiz Inàcio Lula da Silva specifically criticized the threat to the progress made in recent years by organizations such as the United Nations. The Brazilian president explicitly mentioned the setbacks on issues such as climate and trade, in the latter case a not-so-disguised allusion to Donald Trump’s tariff policy. The topics of multilateralism and tariffs were mentioned in the summit’s final declaration, along with health, artificial intelligence, climate change, and the promotion of peace and security. Criticism was also directed at Israel’s actions in the Middle East and the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. These accusations were also extended to the 5% increase in military spending ordered by NATO countries: Lula particularly criticized the lack of investment for peace. At the same time, little was said about the war in Ukraine. What caused a stir during the summit was the absence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping: the former likely to avoid embarrassing Brazil in connection with the international arrest warrant issued against the Russian president by the International Criminal Court; the latter officially had other concurrent commitments. Analysts’ eyes were on the summit because of its increasing importance for the so-called Global South. The organization now represents a large portion of the world’s population and an equally large share of global GDP—37% to be precise. The decisions of this group clarify whether and how the Global South will be able to exert a similar importance in global governance as the G7 countries, or even replace the G20 summit in its importance, the only forum that currently offers countries in this category the opportunity to gain visibility and significance in global scenarios. Compared to the G20, the BRICS forum is composed exclusively of countries that seek to relativize the influence of Western and developed countries. Whether this succeeds will depend on whether the member countries manage to negotiate common positions on key issues and achieve some form of political or economic integration. Regarding the latter, all BRICS members agree in proposing and advocating de-dollarization and the replacement of the US dollar with individual states’ currencies in trade transactions. The problem is that not everyone is ready for this transition, which would mean distancing themselves from Washington: countries like Russia and China are strongly in favor of it, while others like Saudi Arabia, due to their ongoing relations with Washington, do not accept such a prospect. It remains to be seen, therefore, whether US President Trump’s threats to impose tariffs on the group’s countries as they move away from the dollar will become reality. If so, the reactions of individual states to such a threat will be a true test of their loyalty to the group. Overall, it can be said that the results of the summit were mixed and that the only country that stood out somewhat more was Brazil as the organizer, because it was able to promote the main points of its foreign policy, starting with the call for multilateralism. It is premature to say that the group does not have what it takes to become an alternative to the West. However, many analysts believe that the overly diverse interests of its members will hinder the organization’s development. Nevertheless, it should be noted that the BRICS members have reached their 17th summit and that a “hard core” has emerged within the organization, in which Russia and China play a key role in finding an alternative approach to the world’s problems, different from that of the ruling groups in many Western countries. All these elements indicate that the path toward an organization of the Global South could gain weight in international relations and surpass the role played by the G20 so far. Source: Agenzia Fides – MIL OSI

    Wednesday, 16 July 2025

Santiago de Chile (Agenzia Fides) – “I call on the presidential candidates to respect the dignity of their opponents; never to use violence, in any form, as a political method; to be an example of civic culture, generosity, and mutual respect for young people; and to promote ideas, not hatred,” said Cardinal Fernando Garib Chomalì, Archbishop of Santiago de Chile, in an appeal ahead of the upcoming presidential elections to be held in Chile in November.Chilean politics is in a transitional phase, and the 2025 elections are expected to be among the most polarized in Chilean history, with a sharp clash between a radical left and an ultra-conservative right. While on Sunday, July 13, the Republican Party (REP), the Christian Social Party (PSC), and the National Libertarian Party (PNL) sanctioned the birth of the “United Right,” for the first time in Chile’s history, a female candidate will win the left-wing primaries. This candidate is Jeannette Jara, who, however, represents less radical positions than her party. The massive immigration of the past ten years, which has exceeded one million people, combined with an unprecedented wave of violence in Chilean society, has transformed the political landscape. Just a few days ago, current President Gabriel Boric sounded the alarm, denouncing the infiltration of the armed forces by organized crime and the involvement of its members in drug trafficking networks using military resources and logistics. The first round of the presidential election is scheduled for November 16. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, a runoff election will be held on December 14 between the two candidates with the most votes. The members of the National Congress and the president will be elected for the next four years. Boric will not be eligible to run again. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 16/7/2025)

BEIJING, July 16 (Xinhua) — The number of round-trip border crossings by foreign nationals through China’s checkpoints totaled 38.05 million from January to June 2025, up 30.2 percent year on year, data from the National Immigration Administration (NIA) showed Wednesday.

According to the agency, during the reporting period, the number of foreigners who traveled to China under the visa-free regime increased to 13.64 million people, an increase of 53.9 percent year-on-year. In January-June of this year, their share in the total number of incoming trips by foreigners was 71.2 percent.

The total number of border crossings through Chinese checkpoints in the first six months of this year reached 333 million people, up 15.8 percent from a year earlier, according to data released at a departmental press conference.

In particular, during the specified period, residents of mainland China crossed the state border in both directions 159 million times, which is 15.9 percent more year-on-year. Meanwhile, the number of entries and exits through the country’s checkpoints among residents of the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao, as well as Taiwan Island, amounted to 136 million person-times, an increase of 12.2 percent year-on-year.

Border control agencies across the country are steadily increasing efforts to expand openness and improve service efficiency, the SUI noted.

As part of its visa-free policy adjustments, China recently added Indonesia to the list of 240-hour visa-free transit countries, bringing the total number of eligible countries to 55. The policy allows citizens of these countries to transit through China visa-free for a stay of up to 240 hours.

A new regional visa-free policy was also introduced, allowing tourist groups from ASEAN countries to enter Xishuangbanna (Yunnan Province, southwest China) visa-free.

In addition, China expanded its visa-free agreements by signing new mutual visa waiver agreements with Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Azerbaijan, and introducing unilateral visa-free regimes for nine more countries, namely Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait. -0-

    …NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST…

    …SUMMARY…
Severe thunderstorm potential appear low/uncertain on Friday.

    …Synopsis…

Broad, cyclonic upper flow will persist across the northern tier of
the U.S. on Friday. Meanwhile, the subtropical ridge will intensify
over the Southeast and southern Plains. A weak shortwave impulse
and/or MCV is forecast to move from the OH Valley toward the
Chesapeake Bay vicinity near a stalled surface front. This may
provide focus for some severe potential Friday afternoon/early
evening. However, confidence in this scenario is low as prior day’s
convection will heavily influence convective evolution on Friday.

Further west, a surface trough/weak lee low development across the
central High Plains will allow for northward transport of richer
boundary layer moisture from the southern in the central and
northern Plains. Forcing mechanisms are unclear, and capping may
suppress convection. If storms can develop in the warm advection
regime, some severe potential would be possible given the very moist
and unstable environment. Large model disparity also is noted in the
location and evolution of the Plains surface low. Overall the risk
appears too uncertain/conditional at this time to include
    probabilities.

…THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM SOUTHERN
MISSOURI INTO PARTS OF THE OHIO VALLEY…MID-ATLANTIC…AND
    NORTHEAST…

    …SUMMARY…
Isolated damaging gusts are possible from southern Missouri into the
Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast on Thursday.

    …Northeast…

A shortwave trough is forecast to extend from southern Quebec to
near Long Island early Thursday. At the surface, low pressure will
track from Lake Huron northeast along the St. Lawrence Valley. A
trailing cold front will develop east across the Upper Ohio Valley
and Northeast during the afternoon and evening. Ahead of the front,
a very moist airmass will be in place, supporting MLCAPE values from
    around 1000-2000 J/kg.

While 30-40 kt of westerly flow will overspread portions of the
Northeast, effective shear will remain modest, but sufficient for
isolated organized cells (20-30 kt). The surface low is likely to
remain north of the international border, but the cold front should
provide some focus for afternoon/evening thunderstorm activity.
However, subsidence behind the morning shortwave and possibly some
early day showers and cloud cover could hinder thunderstorm
development initially. As a result storms may develop a bit further
south and east than previously forecast, and the Marginal risk
(level 1 of 5) has been removed for parts of the Upper OH
Valley/Lower Great Lakes vicinity. Storms that do develop across the
Northeast still may pose a risk for locally strong gusts, and closer
to the surface low, a tornado or two.

    …Southern MO/OH Valley to the Mid-Atlantic…

A seasonally very moist airmass will reside to the south of the
southward sagging cold front extending from the MO Ozarks into
southern IL/IN/OH. A corridor of strong instability is expected
ahead of the front, aided by 70s dewpoints and heating into the mid
80s to mid 90s. Vertical shear will be much weaker with southward
extent, but any MCVs from prior day’s convection coupled with the
sagging cold front, should provide focused for scattered
thunderstorm development. Thunderstorm clusters will mainly pose a
risk for strong gusts from water laden downdrafts.

Additional storms are expected to develop over the higher terrain of
WV/VA along a surface trough and ahead of the surface cold front. A
similar environment to that further east will exist (high CAPE, weak
shear). Thunderstorm clusters may produce isolated strong gusts.

…THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ON WEDNESDAY OVER
PARTS OF THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS…AND PORTIONS OF THE GREAT LAKES
    REGION….

    …SUMMARY…
Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Wednesday
afternoon and evening from parts of the central High Plains to the
    Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic states.

    …Upper MS Valley…
A large but weakening linear MCS is tracking slowly eastward into
western MN/IA. 00z model consensus shows a convectively enhanced
upper trough and MCV will emerge from this activity, tracking into
parts of WI and northern IL by Wednesday afternoon. Strong heating
and ample low-level moisture will be in place over the warm sector
of this MCV, but weak mid-level lapse rates will limit CAPE values
to around 2000 J/kg. Present indications are that thunderstorms
will intensify by mid-afternoon across this region and spread
eastward toward Lake Michigan and western Lower MI by evening. The
strongest cells will pose a risk of damaging wind gusts. Enhanced
vertical shear near the MCV may also result in a tornado or two.

    …WY/CO…
The belt of primary mid-level westerlies will extend across WY later
today, with the southern fringe of stronger flow aloft over northern
CO. Ample mid-level moisture will encourage scattered afternoon
thunderstorms over the mountains and foothills of CO/southern WY,
with storms moving into the adjacent plains by mid-afternoon.
Backed low-level winds will result in favorable deep-layer shear for
a few organized/supercell storms capable of large hail and damaging
winds through the afternoon and early evening.

    …NY/PA/WV…
Current water vapor loops shows a subtle shortwave trough and weak
mid-level jet max over southern IL. This feature will track
northeastward up the OH Valley and into parts of OH/WV/PA by
Wednesday afternoon. Forcing associated with this feature, combined
with a warm/humid air mass will promote multiple clusters of
thunderstorms affecting the region. Forecast soundings show rather
weak mid-level lapse rates, weak winds in the lowest 4km, and
considerable mid-level moisture limiting downdraft potential. Will
therefore maintain only MRGL at this time, but acknowledge some risk
of scattered wind damage across this region later today.

NEW YORK, July 16 (Xinhua) — The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced Tuesday that it will launch an investigation into Brazil’s trade policies under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.

The investigation, ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump, will focus on “Brazil’s attacks on U.S. social media companies and other unfair trade practices that harm American businesses, workers, farmers, and technologists,” the agency said in a statement, citing U.S. trade negotiator Jamison Greer.

The investigation will aim to determine “whether the actions, policies, and practices of the Brazilian government relating to digital commerce and electronic payment services, unfair, preferential tariffs, interference in the fight against corruption, intellectual property protection, market access for alcohol, and illegal logging are unreasonable or discriminatory and burden or restrict U.S. commerce,” the statement said. –0–
