  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: National education gala held

    Source: Hong Kong Information Services

The Education Bureau today held a gala celebrating the fifth anniversary of the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law and the 28th anniversary of Hong Kong’s Return to the motherland.

The “Love Our Home, Treasure Our Country” Joint School National Education Activities Gala showcased the fruitful achievements of the school year.

Deputy Chief Secretary Cheuk Wing-hing and Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin officiated at the event. Around 2,000 representatives from school sponsoring bodies, school councils, school head associations, schools and parent-teacher associations attended.

Mr Cheuk said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has consistently promoted mainstream values centred on patriotism and love for Hong Kong, which align with the principle of “one country, two systems”.

In April last year, the Working Group on Patriotic Education, chaired by the Chief Secretary, was established to deepen public understanding and appreciation of our nation and the richness of Chinese culture, and to systematically integrate patriotic education into the national education framework.

The Deputy Chief Secretary noted that the “Love Our Home, Treasure Our Country 3.0” joint school national education series is a fine example of how the education sector has responded positively to this initiative and worked together to promote patriotic education.

He hoped students would turn the knowledge and experiences gained from the “Love Our Home, Treasure Our Country” activities into positive values and meaningful actions – actively practising the spirit of patriotism and love for Hong Kong.

Mr Cheuk also hoped they would aspire to become a new generation of idealistic, courageous individuals with a strong Hong Kong spirit and national pride, contributing their youthful passion and strength to the cause of national unity and solidarity.

This school year’s “Love Our Home, Treasure Our Country” joint school national education activities had a total attendance exceeding 40,000. Apart from teachers and students, some activities also invited parents, experts from different sectors and members of the public to enhance understanding of national education among different stakeholders.

The activities included Chinese cultural experiences, learning of intangible cultural heritage skills, visual arts and innovation exhibitions, competitions, and enquiry-based studies on themes aligned with national policies.

Today’s gala marked the grand finale of the “Love Our Home, Treasure Our Country 3.0” series. About 300 students participated in the performances, including the flag-raising ceremony and Chinese-style foot drill by joint school flag guards, music, dance, dragon and flag dance as well as Cantonese opera performance, all showcasing their fruitful learning achievements.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Buildings Department takes enforcement action against illegal domestic units in industrial building

Source: Hong Kong Government special administrative region

Regarding the fire incident in an industrial building at 21 Ma Tau Wai Road, Hung Hom, yesterday (July 3), it was suspected that the unit concerned had been subdivided for illegal domestic use. The Buildings Department (BD) was very concerned about this matter, and launched an investigation immediately. If any unlawful act is found, the BD will consider instigating prosecution against the relevant persons.

“The design, approval of building plans and construction of industrial buildings are intended solely for industrial use. Since the units in industrial buildings are used for industrial activities, including the storage of dangerous and flammable items, illegal conversion of industrial buildings to domestic use poses serious safety risks to users.  No one should reside in industrial buildings.  Persons involved in sales and rental activities, such as prospective buyers and tenants as well as estate agents, should check the approved use of the units. An industrial unit should not be used for domestic purposes,” a spokesman for the BD said.

Following the fire incident yesterday, the BD has deployed its staff to carry out a site inspection. Officers at the scene found that the unit concerned was subdivided into a number of smaller units, and some of them were illegally used for domestic purposes. The BD has served statutory orders in accordance with section 25 (2) and section 26(1) of the Buildings Ordinance (BO) to order the owner to discontinue the use of the unit for domestic purposes and rectify the dangerous situation.  The BD will continue its investigation. If anyone is found in contravention of the BO, the BD will follow up seriously, including considering prosecution against the relevant persons. In addition, the BD will include the building in its large-scale operation against domestic use in industrial buildings and will arrange to inspect the other units of the building in phases.

Failure to comply with a discontinuation order served under section 25(2) or a repair order served under section 26(1) of the BO without reasonable excuse are serious offences. Upon conviction, the offender is liable to a maximum fine at level 5 (currently $50,000) and imprisonment for one year, and a further fine of $5,000 for each day that the offence continues.

To ascertain the approved use of the premises, apart from obtaining independent professional advice, members of the public may obtain relevant information by checking the occupation permit and approved building plans of the building via the Building Records Access and Viewing On-line system of the BD if they are in doubt.

The Government is finalising the proposals to amend the BO and drafting the legislative amendments, including criminalising the subdivision of units in industrial buildings for domestic uses to enhance deterrence. The Government aims to submit the amendment bill to the Legislative Council in the first half of 2026.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Claim on security law untrue: Govt

    Source: Hong Kong Information Services

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today said that the statement made by former non-permanent judge of the Court of Final Appeal (CFA) Brenda Hale on the Hong Kong National Security Law (HKNSL) and the rule of law and independent judicial power in Hong Kong is far from the truth, particularly her assertion that “the National Security Law has taken over the Basic Law” is absolutely incorrect and contrary to the facts.

In a statement, the Hong Kong SAR Government noted that any claims the security law overrides the Basic Law are incorrect.  Article 1 of the HKNSL clearly states that the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPCSC) enacts the security law in accordance with the Constitution, the Basic Law, and the NPC’s decision on establishing and improving the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for safeguarding national security in Hong Kong.

The HKNSL, promulgated and implemented in Hong Kong on June 30, 2020 has plugged the loopholes in the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for safeguarding the city’s national security. The security law and other laws safeguarding national security in Hong Kong firmly adhere to the principle of the rule of law while protecting the rights and freedoms enjoyed under the Basic Law in accordance with the law, the statement added.

The statement noted that the judicial system of Hong Kong is protected by the Basic Law. According to Articles 2, 19 and 85 of the Basic Law, the Hong Kong SAR shall be vested with independent judicial power, including that of final adjudication, and the courts shall exercise judicial power independently, free from any interference.

All judges and judicial officers abide by the Judicial Oath and administer justice in full accordance with the law without fear or favour, self-interest or deceit. When adjudicating cases of offences endangering national security, as in any other cases, judges remain independent and impartial in performing judicial duties, free from any interference, the statement said.

The implementation of the security law over the past five years has proven that the courts have handled all the cases involving the HKNSL strictly in accordance with the above principle, it added.

“The NPCSC’s authority to interpret the Basic Law and national laws that apply in Hong Kong is a fundamental aspect of the “one country, two systems” principle and has been recognised in the jurisprudence of the city.

“It is therefore entirely in line with the ‘one country, two systems’ principle that the general power to interpret the HKNSL being a piece of national law, as stipulated in Article 65 thereof, is also vested in the NPCSC.”

The interpretation given by the NPCSC on Articles 14 and 47 of the HKNSL in December 2022 does not and did not directly deal with any specific judicial proceedings or cases. Rather, it clarifies the meaning of the relevant legal provisions and the basis for application of the HKNSL.

It does not in any way impair the independent judicial power and the power of final adjudication of the courts as guaranteed by the Basic Law. It is for the Hong Kong SAR to resolve specific cases and issues by itself.

The Hong Kong SAR Government said that the long-time presence of esteemed judges from overseas appointed or reappointed as the CFA’s non-permanent judges participating in hearings of the Court as well as after the enactment of the security law, is conducive to the international legal environment and development of the jurisprudence of common law in Hong Kong.

There are currently six non-permanent judges from the UK, Australia and New Zealand in the CFA.

Brenda Hale was appointed as a non-permanent judge of the Court in 2018, but has never been involved in the hearing of any cases.

She indicated to the Judiciary in June 2021 that for personal reasons, she would not wish to have her appointment extended for another term upon the expiry of her then appointment, which differs from her current statement.

  • MIL-OSI NGOs: Greenpeace Africa calls for strong global leadership from BRICS in pushing climate action and nature protection

    Source: Greenpeace Statement –

Johannesburg, South Africa – As BRICS leaders gather in Brazil, African civil society voices—led by Greenpeace Africa—are urging the bloc to move beyond symbolism and deliver bold, people-centered action for climate justice, ecological protection, and equitable development. In a world marked by growing inequality and climate instability, BRICS must become a genuine platform for Global South leadership that places African priorities and civil society demands at its core.

Africa’s Urgent Call: from symbolism to action

The summit comes in the wake of yet another disappointing outcome at the Bonn Climate Conference, where wealthy nations once again failed to meet the urgency of the moment. With COP30 on the horizon and climate impacts accelerating across the African continent, civil society is calling on BRICS to use this pivotal moment to help shift global power structures and address the systems that continue to marginalize African communities and ecosystems.

Fred Njehu, Global Political Lead, Fair Share Campaign, Greenpeace Africa, said:

“African civil society is not giving up on our demands for real change. We’re demanding that BRICS leaders step up and deliver real change for the planet and people. South Africa, as both a BRICS founding member and G20 host, has a moral and political obligation to push for equity and accountability. That starts with leading efforts on reforming the global financial architecture, tax rules and leading a pan African push for ambitious, people-first 2035 climate actions. We need action that puts African lives and livelihoods before billionaires’ greed and profits. Frontline communities across this continent are already paying the price for climate inaction. It’s time for BRICS to prioritize climate finance that reaches grassroots solutions, not just boardrooms.”

Civil Society priorities for BRICS action

African civil society is united in calling for:

    • A just energy transition that centers workers, youth, women, and communities—not fossil fuel interests.
    • Climate finance justice, with transparent, accessible funding for community-led adaptation and resilience.
    • Full ratification of the High Seas Treaty, to protect African marine ecosystems from exploitation.
    • Protection of the Congo Basin forest and Indigenous people’s rights, including meaningful participation in global forest initiatives.
    • A Global Plastics Treaty that cuts production at the source and stops the waste colonialism harming African communities.

Koaile Monaheng, Pan-African Political Strategist, Greenpeace Africa, added:

“In a year as the G20 host, South Africa also needs to live up to its global responsibilities and a good place to start is ratifying the global oceans treaty and pushing other BRICS members to do the same. But responsible leadership also starts at home and South Africa must push ahead with an ambitious 2035 climate action plan to set the scene for climate finance talks at COP30.”

A moment to demonstrate Global South leadership

The BRICS Summit offers a critical opportunity to demonstrate the rising influence of the Global South in shaping a more just and sustainable global order. With Brazil hosting COP30 next year, the bloc is uniquely positioned to send a clear and united message: BRICS nations are ready to lead with purpose on the most urgent environmental challenges of our time.

From intensified droughts and flooding to threats to food and water security, climate impacts are already being felt deeply across the Global South. BRICS countries—many of them directly affected—can help craft practical, cooperative solutions that reflect both the urgency and diversity of local contexts.

Climate Action, Forest Protection, and the Plastics Treaty

As discussions progress, there is a clear opportunity for BRICS to advance bold 2035 climate action plans that support an inclusive energy transition. These plans must be anchored in national realities but also promote cross-regional solidarity and resilience.

Initiatives like Brazil’s Tropical Forests Forever Facility could serve as important models—if they prioritize participation, transparency, and the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities who are already at the forefront of forest protection across the Amazon, Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia.

On plastics, BRICS leaders have the opportunity to influence the upcoming Global Plastics Treaty negotiations in Geneva by pushing for a treaty that addresses production at the source, promotes a just transition for waste workers, and ensures Global South realities are embedded in the solutions.

    Protecting the Ocean Commons

Momentum is also building around the High Seas Treaty, a landmark effort to protect ocean biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction. BRICS countries have contributed to its progress, and continued leadership will be vital to uphold multilateralism, science-based decision-making, and long-term ocean stewardship.

    Charting a path forward

Greenpeace Africa believes that BRICS has a vital role to play in strengthening environmental and climate governance, both regionally and globally. Rooted in the shared principles of equity, development, and cooperation, the bloc has the potential to help reshape how the world responds to the intersecting crises of climate, nature, and inequality.

The world is watching with anticipation. The decisions made in Rio can lay the foundation for a renewed collective ambition at COP30 and beyond—showing that a more inclusive, justice-centered form of leadership is not only necessary, but already within reach.

  • India’s military free and capable to respond to terror: Rajnath Singh

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday asserted that India’s Armed Forces are fully free and capable of taking all necessary action against terrorism, reiterating the government’s commitment to a firm yet restrained approach.

Speaking at an event in Hyderabad to mark the 128th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju, Singh said terrorists who killed innocent civilians in Pahalgam acted according to their “Dharma”, but India’s forces responded in line with their “Karma”.

“Terrorists killed innocent civilians in Pahalgam based on their Dharma, while the Armed Forces, through Operation Sindoor, destroyed the hideouts of terrorists based on their Karma,” Singh said. He underlined that during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces displayed patience and exercised complete caution to ensure that civilian populations were not harmed while dismantling terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

“Our Armed Forces are free and capable to take all kinds of action against terrorism in the future as well,” he said, adding that the country’s security forces continue to act with restraint and moral clarity under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The event in Hyderabad was part of the commemorations for Alluri Sitarama Raju, who Singh described as a ‘warrior-saint’ and an inspiration for India’s modern defence and development strategy.

“Alluri ji was not just a revolutionary, he was a movement. His guerrilla resistance despite limited resources remains a shining example of courage driven by principle. He taught us that standing up against injustice is not just a right, it is the nation’s Dharma,” Singh said.

He drew parallels between Alluri’s life and the government’s current vision for tribal empowerment, citing initiatives such as the PM Tribal Development Mission, Skill India, and the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Campaign as steps towards mainstreaming tribal communities with dignity and opportunity.

“From being denied basic rights during colonial rule to becoming the guardians of sustainable growth today, our tribal brothers and sisters have come a long way, and we are committed to walking alongside them,” Singh said.

He emphasised that these efforts are driven not just by policy but by a deep emotional commitment to the values Alluri championed. Calling Alluri a symbol of unity who transcended caste barriers, Singh said his legacy continues to inspire India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

The Defence Minister described the birth anniversary celebrations as a testament to India’s 11 years of transformative governance and its resolve to build a ‘Viksit Bharat’ in the coming decades.

  • PM Modi to visit Buenos Aires, marking first bilateral trip by an Indian PM to Argentina in 57 years

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on July 4 and 5 will mark the first bilateral trip by an Indian Prime Minister to the South American nation in nearly six decades.

PM Modi has been to Argentina before, having attended the G20 Summit there in 2018. This upcoming visit, however, is his first bilateral trip, underlining both countries’ commitment to deepen their strategic ties.

The visit will begin with the Prime Minister paying homage at the statue of General José de San Martín, Argentina’s revered freedom fighter and national hero. He will be accorded a ceremonial welcome and will hold delegation-level talks with President Javier Milei. The discussions will be followed by a lunch hosted by the Argentine President in honour of the Prime Minister.

India and Argentina share a strategic partnership since 2019 and celebrated 75 years of diplomatic ties last year. This visit comes at a pivotal moment for Argentina, which is undertaking significant economic reforms that echo India’s own transformative economic journey. Both leaders are expected to hold extensive talks on expanding economic and trade ties.

Key areas on the agenda include India’s advancements in defence manufacturing, the space sector, information technology, and digital public infrastructure (DPI). India is also looking to share its expertise in telemedicine and digital healthcare solutions, which could help Argentina improve access to medical services and ensure cost-effective healthcare delivery.

Argentina’s vast natural resources present further opportunities for cooperation. The country holds the world’s second-largest shale gas reserves and the fourth-largest shale oil reserves, alongside substantial conventional oil and gas deposits—making it a potentially important energy partner for India. Argentina’s significant reserves of critical minerals such as lithium, copper, and other rare earth elements are vital for India’s clean energy transition and industrial growth. India’s public sector enterprise, KABIL, has already secured concessions in Argentina since 2024, and further discussions are expected during the visit.

The bilateral talks are likely to pave the way for enhanced cooperation in trade and investment, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, defence and security, infrastructure, mining and mineral resources, agriculture and food security, green energy, ICT, digital innovation, disaster management, science and technology, education, and people-to-people ties.

Prime Minister Modi’s historic visit is expected to lay the foundation for stronger strategic engagement and open new avenues of collaboration between India and Argentina in the years ahead.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Pride of the University: The Polytechnic University awarded its best graduates

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University – Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University –

At the beginning of July, the atmosphere at the Polytechnic University is especially enthusiastic, happy and at the same time a little sad. Graduates walk around the campus in their robes, celebrate the end of exams and defenses, say goodbye to their beloved university and teachers, proudly receive their diplomas and prepare for a new wonderful life. One of the most solemn events in the series of graduation ceremonies is the honoring of gold medalists, those who have studied only excellently all these years and have distinguished themselves in scientific and social activities.

This year, the award ceremony for the best graduates of the Master’s and Specialist’s programs of 2025 was held in the meeting room of the Academic Council. The medals “Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University” were presented to the students by the rector of SPbPU, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrey Rudskoy and the president and chairman of the board of directors of the RBI Group, a graduate of the Faculty of Economics in 1994, Honorary Professor of SPbPU Eduard Tiktinsky.

Before the ceremony, Andrey Rudskoy thanked the directors of the institutes and the parents of the graduates and said a few parting words: Dear guys! I sincerely wish that you honorably bear the high title of the engineering special forces of our university. You cannot waste a second now, you need to continue to study, deepen your knowledge. This will be repaid a hundredfold later. I want all future great achievements to bear your names. Of course, you are entering graduate school without competition, this happens once in a lifetime, you cannot lose the pace of learning. It is very important for each of you to make the right settings in your head now. An internal trigger must be triggered – the desire to study and achieve something in this life. Stay with us, we will be happy to see you with your graduate student certificates. Honor, dignity, pride in the fact that you studied here, for the fact that you are members of the Polytechnic family, you must carry throughout your life and prove every day your right to be a member of this great family.

Eduard Tiktinsky thanked for the honor of speaking at the award ceremony for the golden graduates and supported the words of the SPbPU rector in his parting words: The education that the Polytechnic University provides is not just knowledge of scientific principles, it is the development of the convolutions of the brain. The world is changing rapidly, and you will have to constantly learn. And the fact that you were able to pass the most difficult course of the Polytechnic University at the highest level gives you great opportunities. Communication, outlook, and various experiences that you received at the university will give you a lot in life. Follow your dream, you have talent and opportunities. Do not be afraid to try, the main thing is not to stand still. There is really a huge demand for you. The country needs technological startups, it needs innovative activity. You are engineers, on the one hand, and on the other hand, people with great potential and energy, capable of achieving results. I believe that you will remember this day for the rest of your life, and our wishes will become the foundation for the next breakthrough. I believe that each of you has the opportunity to succeed and I urge you not to miss your chance.

And here is the culmination of the ceremony — the presentation of medals, commemorative plaques, gifts and flowers. Based on the results of successful defenses of final qualification works in June 2025, in accordance with the recommendations of the directorates of the institutes and based on the decision of the Academic Council of SPbPU, 23 graduates — straight A students are nominated for awards, including eight people from the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade, four from the Institute of Power Engineering, three from the Civil Engineering Institute, two from the Institute of Biomedical Systems and Biotechnology and the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications, one from the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport, the Humanitarian Institute, the Institute of Computer Science and Cybersecurity, the Physics and Mechanical Engineering Institute.

Among the 23 best graduates of 2025, 20 people completed their master’s degree and three completed their specialist’s degree; three graduates entered the 1st year of the bachelor’s degree at SPbPU in 2019 after graduating from the Natural Science Lyceum of the Polytechnic University (Svyatoslav Drozdov, PhysMech, Andrey Klinovitsky, IMMiT and Kristina Rodionova, IBSiB); 16 people graduated from high school or gymnasium with a medal, receiving a certificate of secondary education “with honors”.

The first award was presented to a graduate of the Institute of Energy Alexander Abubakirov, which represented Polytechnic on June 25 in the Peter and Paul Fortress at the XXIII ceremonial honoring the best graduates of St. Petersburg universities. It was Alexander who was given the honorary right to fire the midday shot from the cannon of the Naryshkin Bastion.

Also at the Institute of Energy, Pavel Volkov was awarded gold medals, Mikhail Chuprynenko and Andrey Florinsky.

The best graduate of IMMiT was Andrey Klinovitsky, who came to the Polytechnic in 2019 after successfully graduating from the Natural Sciences Lyceum. Andrey shared that he chose the Lyceum at the time because he considered it one of the strongest schools in St. Petersburg with in-depth training in technical disciplines, and also closely connected with the Polytechnic University, which helped him immerse himself in the university environment in advance.

“After graduating from the Lyceum, choosing the Polytechnic was easy — I already knew what to prepare for at the university and saw further opportunities for development,” Andrey said. “At ENL, we had electives in engineering creativity, where we designed and assembled robots, so I enrolled in the Mechatronics and Robotics program. It was not easy to study excellently for all six years, but the main thing for this is discipline and meeting deadlines. It is important to distribute the workload and not put off tasks until the last minute. At the same time, I had time for student activities and hobbies. For example, my friends and I founded a student association in robotics, participated in and won more than ten all-Russian competitions and competitions in robotics.”

Yes, Andrey is well known to our readerspublications about the activities of the student association he leads “PolyRoboTech” and about the successes of his team in competitions. In addition, in 2023, he, like Alexander Abubakirov, was gold medalist of the “I am a professional” Olympiad.

The best graduate of IBSiB Kristina Rodionova also came to the Polytechnic after the Natural Science Lyceum. In 2019, she graduated with a gold medal and, having now received a gold medal from SPbPU, confirmed the high quality of training of ENL graduates.

“Most of all, in the natural-scientific lyceum, I was attracted to the fact that the training format there is not at all school, but student: instead of lessons-couples, at the end of each semester, oral exams in physics and mathematics are passed, there is even a division into lecture and practical classes, just like at a university,” Christina shared her memories. – Many of my classmates after the end of the Lyceum went to Polytech. I entered the direction of “Biotechnical Systems and Technologies” by the Institute of Biomedical Systems and Biotechnology. And my expectations were justified: I was lucky to study in the direction that brings pleasure. Although studying was very hard, especially in the first semester: in addition to the basic physics, higher mathematics and chemistry for all students, we also had medical subjects – anatomy, physiology, and histology. All this was very difficult to combine. How many tears were spilled over a textbook on anatomy! But after the second year it became much easier. Then in summer practice I began research work in the scientific laboratory. From that moment I have been in love with science: for four years, students managed to work in three laboratories, take part in writing articles, in conferences, in grants. My involvement in scientific life, as well as the mentoring of colleagues, in many ways helped to easily master academic disciplines. I am still very grateful to my first scientific mentor Anton Sergeyevich Shabunin, also once a graduate of the Polytechnic, for help in taking the first steps in a scientific career and transferred invaluable experience. Now I work in my specialty simultaneously in two laboratories, since I have not yet decided what is more interesting to me: tissue engineering or virology and immunology. ”

We have already talked about the second best graduate of IBSiB, Daria Melentyeva we talked about this in detail in our special project “Persona”By the way, it was Dasha who gave a speech and took the oath on behalf of all the first-year students six years ago. at the ceremonial assembly in honor of SPbPU Knowledge Day.

The best graduate of the IKNK, Alexander Khrustalev, in 2019 was also one of those first-year students who scored the highest number of points for the entrance exams.

“Then I was glad that I managed to enter the university, now I am glad that I managed to graduate,” Alexander shared. “The first years were difficult, then grades stopped worrying me so much, and studying in specialized subjects became much easier. The patience and professionalism of our teachers helped me in my studies. Fortunately, all our teachers taught their courses wonderfully, thank you very much to them.”

PhysMech graduate Svyatoslav Drozdov successfully graduated from the Polytechnic University’s Natural Sciences Lyceum in 2019 and says that his studies at ENL left him with “exceptionally positive impressions.”

“And since I had a very good opinion of the Lyceum, I chose the Polytechnic as an organization associated with it,” Svyatoslav explained the reason for entering SPbPU. When asked whether it was difficult to study for six years with excellent grades, he answered scientifically: “The main difficulty in studying for 5.0 is precisely that you need to pay attention to everything, maximizing the probability of a specific outcome of the session (all A’s). With the same expenditure of resources, it would be much easier to count on an average score of 4.9. Therefore, sometimes there was a feeling of playing roulette, when you understand that any exam and an unsuccessful question on it can ruin a series of previously received grades. In my studies, the desire to understand what I do not understand, interest and sports excitement helped – will I be able to pass everything with excellent marks?”

The Civil Engineering Institute was represented at the award ceremony by Daria Denisenko, Yulia Matveeva and Lyudmila Morshchakova.

IPMEiT has been producing the most gold medalists for several years now. In 2025, these are Eldar Asadullaev, Anastasia Maykova, Marina Malashenko, Vadim Savekin, Daniil Tyurin, Ekaterina Fedorakhina, Nikita Sharikov, Maria Odesskaya.

Adelina Borozdina became the best graduate at the Humanitarian Institute.

At the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications, Nikita Ivanov and The Manh Do from Vietnam received gold medals.

From 2003 to 2025, 970 best graduates of the Polytechnic University were awarded SPbPU gold medals based on the results of winter and summer defenses of their final qualifying works. The largest number of gold medalists graduated from SPbPU in 2013 — 68 graduates. The smallest number — 19 graduates — in 2016 and 2023.

  • MIL-OSI: Aivora Trade: This Aivora Trade App Sets New Standard in AI-Driven Trading with Unmatched Security and User Approval

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

New York City, NY, July 04, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In a year defined by rapid technological integration into financial markets, Aivora Trade is quickly becoming a focal point among traders seeking intelligent automation. As 2025 unfolds, digital finance communities are increasingly referencing Aivora Trade as one of the most streamlined and promising AI-supported platforms for individuals interested in modern market participation.

According to Official website, Aivora Trade known for its transparent user onboarding, robust customer support, and reliable trading infrastructure. What’s fueling this momentum isn’t hype—it’s the platform’s steady rise in user satisfaction and performance transparency. Unlike many opaque systems, Aivora Trade includes secure brokerage partnerships and active human support, distinguishing it in a landscape full of generic interfaces and automation gimmicks.

Importantly, Aivora Trade requires no upfront subscription fees and offers guided orientation calls, which adds a level of trust for users new to digital assets or automated trading. With rising search trends and growing visibility across Canada, the U.S., India, and beyond, this tool is not just gaining clicks—it’s securing confidence. For anyone exploring how AI is transforming wealth management and personal finance, Aivora Trade represents a conversation that’s impossible to ignore.

AI-Powered Trading at Its Core: The Technology Behind Aivora Trade

At the heart of Aivora Trade is a proprietary AI engine that interprets market behavior, scans price trends, and generates trade signals with remarkable precision. This core functionality is what places Aivora Trade in a league above most conventional trading apps. It doesn’t merely automate trades—it adapts, reacts, and recalibrates strategies based on live financial inputs.

What makes this particularly valuable in today’s fast-moving markets is the system’s capacity to recognize patterns in real time—far faster than any human trader. The algorithm reviews data across asset classes and pinpoints optimal entry or exit points. This constant recalibration reduces the margin of error, helping users engage markets with enhanced timing and discipline.

The platform also supports multi-layered trading scenarios. Whether the market is trending up, down, or sideways, Aivora’s algorithmic framework adjusts accordingly. Features like adjustable risk thresholds, customized strategy modules, and loss-limiting functions enable deeper control while maintaining full automation if desired.

Back-end data from users and reviews shows many are achieving success rates above 80%, especially when paired with the platform’s default AI settings. That number reinforces what early adopters are already reporting: this isn’t just about convenience—it’s about smarter execution.

What Is Aivora Trade and How Does It Work?

Aivora Trade is an automated trading platform that integrates real-time market analysis with artificial intelligence. It’s designed to streamline how individuals engage with various financial instruments, including cryptocurrencies, stocks, forex pairs, and commodities. With a simple interface and intelligent backend, the platform makes algorithm-based trading accessible to users without technical or financial expertise.

Once registered, users are connected to brokers regulated in various jurisdictions. A guided call follows to walk new users through dashboard features, settings, and deposit requirements—starting at approximately $250 (or ₹21,000). From there, users choose between full automation, where the platform executes trades based on built-in signals, or manual interaction using AI-generated recommendations.

One of the standout features is the availability of a demo mode, allowing users to simulate trading strategies before activating live trades. This not only educates newcomers but also adds a safeguard layer for risk management. Reports confirm that Aivora Trade’s algorithm scans market conditions 24/7, adjusting strategies according to volatility and volume metrics.

Overall, Aivora Trade’s structure emphasizes simplicity without sacrificing sophistication. Whether for busy professionals or those curious about algorithmic finance, the platform provides a rare blend of usability, automation, and expert-led setup—laying the groundwork for a new kind of personal investment experience.

Security First: How Aivora Trade Protects Its Users

Security is a growing concern in financial technology, and Aivora Trade approaches this challenge with a multi-tiered protection model. From account creation to fund withdrawals, each layer of the system is fortified to ensure safety and compliance.

The platform uses SSL encryption across all pages, protecting sensitive information like payment credentials and identity documentation. Additionally, the brokers integrated into the system are verified and operate under regionally accepted compliance protocols, giving users the assurance that they’re interacting with licensed entities.

What also distinguishes Aivora Trade from questionable platforms is the transparent withdrawal process. Users report that their withdrawal requests are processed within 24–48 hours without undue restrictions—a rare attribute in the auto-trading niche.

No financial platform is immune to risk, but Aivora Trade’s emphasis on identity protection, encrypted transmission, and guided onboarding adds multiple security gates before any real-money interaction begins. There are also no hidden charges, unexpected renewals, or software download requirements. This browser-based model is both streamlined and harder to compromise than downloadable executables.

In a market flooded with false promises, Aivora Trade has earned a growing reputation for safe practices—evidenced by consistently high ratings and return user engagement. Security, in this case, isn’t an afterthought—it’s built in.

User-Centric Design: What Makes Aivora Trade App So Widely Adopted

Aivora Trade’s rapid adoption can be attributed not only to its smart automation, but also to its human-first design. Everything from the user dashboard to the onboarding process reflects the needs of real people—not just financial insiders.

The app opens with an intuitive layout, allowing quick access to portfolio views, real-time trade logs, and AI-generated insights. For newcomers, this layout reduces the overwhelm that often comes with trading platforms. Even more importantly, every registered user is offered a personal orientation call—something few platforms in the same space provide.

Aivora Trade also includes flexible control. Users can toggle between manual and automated modes, adjust trade settings, and set risk thresholds that match their personal financial comfort zones. With the addition of a demo trading environment, users can explore the system’s features in a simulated format before committing funds.

Another feature users appreciate is the multilingual support and international accessibility. Whether from India, Canada, the U.K., or the U.S., users are welcomed into a system that doesn’t favor a single region or demographic.

Expert Views: Analysts Share Thoughts on Aivora’s Market Disruption

Analysts watching fintech evolution in 2025 have started to spotlight Aivora Trade as a key disruptor in AI-enhanced investing. Many Media Publications have included the platform in their curated reviews of emerging AI tools, pointing to its “strong user retention” and “unique combination of automation and accountability.”

What captures analysts’ attention is the hybrid approach Aivora Trade adopts. Instead of relying solely on automation or user guesswork, the platform integrates a support-led model. This bridges the knowledge gap many casual investors face and invites broader participation.

Industry observers also note that Aivora Trade avoids several pitfalls common in the auto-trading ecosystem—such as overpromising ROI or operating under unverified brokerages. With verified user reports and transparent practices, it’s entering the radar of analysts who previously dismissed auto-trading as unreliable.

As fintech accelerates toward more AI-driven models, Aivora’s success story could signal a broader shift. Platforms that combine precision automation with user education and support may become the new benchmark—especially in regions where traditional investing still feels out of reach.

    RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH FUTURES TRADING
Futures transactions involve high risk. The amount of the initial margin is low compared to the value of the futures contract, so that transactions are “leveraged” or “geared”. A relatively small market movement has a proportionately larger impact on the funds that you have deposited or have to pay: this can work both for you and against you. You may experience the total loss of the initial margin funds as well as any additional funds deposited in the system. If the market develops in a way that is contrary to your position or if margins are increased, you may be asked to pay significant additional funds at short notice to maintain your position. In this case it may also happen that your broker account is in the red and you thus have to make payments beyond the initial investment.
    RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH ELECTRONIC TRADING
Before you begin carrying out transactions with an electronic system, you should carefully review the rules and provisions of the stock exchange offering the system, or of the financial instruments listed that you intend to trade, as well as your broker’s conditions. Online trading has inherent risks due to system responses/reaction times and access times that may vary due to market conditions, system performance and other factors, and on which you have no influence. You should be aware of these additional risks in electronic trading before you carry out investment transactions.

As a result, clients enjoy more optimized mining cycles—without manual intervention.

  • Israeli military kills 15 in Gaza as Trump awaits Hamas reply to truce proposal

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

At least 15 Palestinians were killed overnight in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza, according to local health officials, as U.S. President Donald Trump said he expected Hamas to respond to his “final proposal” for a ceasefire in Gaza in the next 24 hours.

Health officials at the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, said the Israeli military had carried out an airstrike on a tent encampment west of the city around 2 a.m., killing 15 Palestinians displaced by nearly two years of war.

The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

Later on Friday, Palestinians gathered to perform funeral prayers before burying those killed overnight.

“The ceasefire will come, and I have lost my brother? There should have been a ceasefire long ago before I lost my brother,” said 13-year-old Mayar Al Farr as she wept. Her brother, Mahmoud, was among those killed.

Adlar Mouamar said her nephew, Ashraf, was also killed. “Our hearts are broken. We ask the world, we don’t want food…We want them to end the bloodshed. We want them to stop this war.”

Trump earlier said it would probably be known in 24 hours whether Hamas has accepted a ceasefire between the Palestinian militant group and Israel.

On Tuesday, the president announced that Israel had accepted the conditions needed to finalise a 60-day ceasefire with Hamas, during which the parties would work towards ending the war.

Hamas, which has previously declared it would only agree to a deal for a permanent end to the war, has said it was studying the proposal, but given no public indication whether it would accept or reject it.

    ‘MAKE THE DEAL’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is yet to comment on Trump’s ceasefire announcement. While some members of his right-wing coalition oppose a deal, others have indicated their support.

Netanyahu has repeatedly said Hamas must be disarmed, a position the militant group has so far refused to discuss.

In Tel Aviv, families and friends of hostages held in Gaza were among demonstrators who gathered outside a U.S. Embassy building on U.S. Independence Day, calling on Trump to secure a deal for all of the captives.

Demonstrators set up a symbolic Shabbat dinner table, placing 50 empty chairs to represent those who are still held in Gaza. Banners hung nearby displaying a post by Trump from his Truth Social platform that read, “MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA. GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!!”

The Sabbath, or Shabbat, observed from Friday evening to Saturday nightfall, is often marked by Jewish families with a traditional Friday night dinner.

“Only you can make the deal. We want one beautiful deal. One beautiful hostage deal,” said Gideon Rosenberg, 48, from Tel Aviv.

Rosenberg was wearing a shirt with the image of hostage Avinatan Or, one of his employees who was abducted by Palestinian militants from the Nova musical festival on October 7, 2023. He is among the 20 hostages who are believed to be alive after more than 600 days of captivity.

Ruby Chen, 55, the father of 19-year-old American-Israeli Itay, who is believed to have been killed after being taken captive, urged Netanyahu to return from his meeting with Trump in Washington on Monday with a deal that brings back all hostages.

“Let this United States Independence Day mark the beginning of a lasting peace…, one that secures the sacred value of human life and one that bestows dignity to the deceased hostages by ensuring their return to proper burial,” he said, also appealing to Trump.

Itay Chen, also a German national, was serving as an Israeli soldier when Hamas carried out its surprise attack on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking another 251 hostage.

Israel’s retaliatory war against Hamas has devastated Gaza, which the militant group has ruled for almost two decades but now only controls in parts, displacing most of the population of more than 2 million and triggering widespread hunger.

More than 57,000 Palestinians have been killed in nearly two years of fighting, most of them civilians, according to local health officials.

  • MIL-OSI Africa: At Africa gender statistics forum, African leaders urge renewed commitment to quality gender data

    Source: APO

Amid growing setbacks on gender equality and increasing financial constraints, African policymakers, gender experts, and development specialists are calling for renewed collaboration and sustained investment in national gender data systems across the continent.

This is the message of the ongoing Seventh Africa Gender Statistics Forum taking place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Forum was co-organized by Côte d’Ivoire’s National Statistics Agency,  the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank Group, the Economic Commission for Africa, UN Women, and Open Data Watch, with funding support from the Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation Trust Fund.

The Forum is exploring Africa’s gender data systems, ways to build statistical capacity, and policies to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment across the continent.

Representatives from host country Côte d’Ivoire said the country has made notable progress in recent years in collecting, analyzing and using gender data to guide public policy.

“These statistics are essential to understand the lived realities of girls and women and to design effective programs and policies that eliminate inequality,” Thiekoro Doumbia, Director General of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Statistics Agency, told attendees.

Held under the theme “Sound Statistics for ALL Women and Girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment,” the Forum has attracted more than 150 participants from 40 African countries, covering a diversity of sectors – including government representatives, statisticians, civil society, and development organizations.

At the forum, participants have reflected on Africa’s journey in gender statistics since the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – a landmark international agreement aimed at advancing women’s rights and gender equality.

“Statistics provide a solid foundation for good decision-making, and gender statistics are crucial for identifying vulnerabilities among women, girls, men, and boys and responding appropriately,” said William Muhwava, Chief for Demographic and Social Statistics Section of the UN Economic Commission for Africa.

The high-level panels, technical and networking sessions have focused on priority issues ranging from gender-based violence statistics and inclusive data systems to social protection, migration, and sets of standards, principles, and rules that guide behavior and decision-making.

During the forum, the African Development Bank and the Economic Commission for Africa’s Africa Gender Index 2023 Analytical Report, was showcased – a flagship publication that measures the state of gender equality across the continent.

According to the Index, African women and girls continue to be left behind in economic, social and political spheres, despite progress in some sectors.

“This Forum is a unique opportunity to turn numbers into narratives, analysis into action, and data into social justice for all African women and girls,” said Nathalie Gahunga, Manager of the Gender and Women Empowerment Division at the African Development Bank.

“Data is the key to change. Yet, in 15 African countries, only 52 percent of gender-related indicators clearly differentiate between women and men. This gap undermines progress in maternal health, political participation, and violence prevention,“ she added.

According to UN Women and the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century PARIS21, African countries have achieved just over 50 percent of their potential gender data capacity. While some countries are performing above the global average, the continent lags behind.

“An Africa that is people-driven needs sound data that accurately reflects the realities of women and girls,” said Aberash Tariku Abaye Africa, Coordination Statistics Expert at the African Union Institute for Statistics.

“Including women in Africa’s development is therefore critical for sustainable economic growth and social development,” said Adjaratou Ndiaye, Country Representative, UN Women, Cote Ivoire.  “We can’t achieve that without strong gender data and this calls for countries and sectors to work closely together to identify and address gaps for stronger data systems across the region.”

The Forum is expected to conclude with recommendations aimed at supporting institutions, processes, and resources to produce, disseminate, and utilize gender-related data. This will ensure coordination between gender data producers and users,  grounding policies across Africa in solid evidence and real-life data.

  • MIL-OSI Africa: World Health Organization (WHO) and UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) standby partners strengthen cholera response in South Sudan

    Source: APO

    .

Amidst the ongoing cholera outbreak in South Sudan, the World Health Organization (WHO) expressed gratitude for the critical support provided by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and WHO’s Standby Partners (SBPs). Their timely and coordinated assistance has significantly enhanced WHO’s capacity to support the government of South Sudan’s efforts to contain the outbreak.

South Sudan declared a cholera outbreak in October 2024, since then, the Ministry of Health with support from World Health Organization (WHO) and other partners, has mounted a comprehensive response, designating the outbreak as a highest-priority emergency. This designation has enabled deployment of rapid response teams, prepositioning medical supplies and coordination efforts across all levels to protect communities and safe lives. This is the longest cholera outbreak in the country’s history since independence in September 2011.

With funding from the UK FCDO, five technical experts were deployed between January and February 2025 through WHO’s Standby Partners, – CANADEM, RedR Australia and UK-Med for six months. This multidisciplinary surge team brought together expertise across key response pillars: case management, epidemiology, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), health logistics, and coordination. This coordinated deployment formed a dedicated surge team, enabling WHO to support the government of South Sudan respond swiftly and comprehensively across all key pillars of the cholera response.

The deployment of these five technical experts played a pivotal role in strengthening the response. Each position was strategically selected to enhance the speed, reach, and effectiveness of WHO’s operations. This integrated, multi-disciplinary deployment model serves as a best-practice example of how surge capacity can be optimized to deliver high-impact results during public health emergencies.

  • 613 killed at Gaza aid distribution sites, near humanitarian covoys, says UN

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

The U.N. human rights office said on Friday it had recorded at least 613 killings both at aid points run by the U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) and near humanitarian convoys run by other relief groups including the U.N.

The GHF uses private U.S. security and logistics companies to get supplies into Gaza, largely bypassing a U.N.-led system that Israel says had let militants divert aid. The United Nations has called the plan “inherently unsafe” and a violation of humanitarian impartiality rules.

“We have recorded 613 killings, both at GHF points and near humanitarian convoys – this is a figure as of June 27. Since then … there have been further incidents,” Ravina Shamdasani, the spokesperson for the U.N. Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, told reporters in Geneva.

The GHF began distributing food packages in Gaza at the end of May and has repeatedly denied that incidents had occurred at its sites.

Of the 613 people killed, 509 were killed near the GHF distribution points, the OHCHR said.

The OHCHR said its figure is based on a range of sources such as information from hospitals, cemeteries, families, Palestinian health authorities, NGOs, and its partners on the ground. It said it is verifying further reports and cannot yet give a breakdown of where they were killed.

The GHF previously told Reuters it has delivered more than 52 million meals to hungry Palestinians in five weeks, and said other humanitarian groups had “nearly all of their aid looted.” Israel lifted an 11-week aid blockade on Gaza on May 19.

The U.N. office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) told Reuters that there have been some instances of violent looting and attacks on truck drivers, which it described as unacceptable.

“Israel, as the occupying power, bears responsibility with regards to public order and safety in Gaza. That should include letting in far more essential supplies, through multiple crossings and routes, to meet humanitarian needs,” OCHA spokesperson Eri Kaneko said in a statement to Reuters.

COGAT, the Israeli military aid coordination agency, was not immediately available for comment.

The Israeli military acknowledged on Monday that Palestinian civilians have been harmed at aid distribution centres in Gaza, saying that Israeli forces had been issued new instructions following what it called “lessons learned”.

Israel has repeatedly said its forces operate near the centres in order to prevent the aid from falling into the hands of Palestinian Hamas militants.

There is an acute shortage of food and other basic supplies after a nearly two-year-old military campaign by Israel against Hamas militants in Gaza that has reduced much of the enclave to rubble and displaced most of its two million inhabitants.

  • Indian scientists develop pocket-sized sensor to detect toxic sulfur dioxide at trace levels

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

In a breakthrough that could significantly improve air quality monitoring, scientists at the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru, have developed a portable, low-cost sensor capable of detecting toxic sulfur dioxide (SO₂) gas at extremely low concentrations. The innovation promises safer environments in both industrial and urban settings where exposure to harmful gases is a growing concern.

Sulfur dioxide, a pollutant commonly emitted from vehicle exhausts and industrial processes, poses serious health risks even in minute quantities. Known to trigger respiratory irritation, asthma attacks, and long-term lung damage, SO₂ is difficult to detect before it begins to impact health. Current monitoring systems are often costly, bulky, or lack the sensitivity required to identify the gas at trace levels.

To address these challenges, researchers at CeNS — an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) — have designed a compact sensor by combining two metal oxides: nickel oxide (NiO) and neodymium nickelate (NdNiO₃). In this setup, NiO functions as the receptor that detects the gas, while NdNiO₃ acts as the transducer, amplifying the signal. This synergy enables the sensor to detect SO₂ concentrations as low as 320 parts per billion (ppb), far exceeding the sensitivity of many commercially available sensors.

Led by Dr. S. Angappane, the research team has also developed a portable prototype device that incorporates the sensor and offers real-time air quality feedback. The device includes a color-coded alert system to indicate exposure levels: green for safe, yellow for warning, and red for danger. Its intuitive design makes it user-friendly, even for individuals without technical training.

Designed to be compact and lightweight, the sensor system is ideal for deployment in industrial zones, densely populated urban areas, and enclosed spaces where continuous air quality monitoring is essential. The technology offers a practical and accessible solution for early detection and response to SO₂ pollution, ultimately supporting public health and environmental protection efforts.

  • How tiny plastic beads are helping scientists create colour-shifting materials

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

A team of researchers in Bengaluru has discovered a way to create tunable colour-shifting surfaces inspired by nature’s vibrant displays—like the feathers of a peacock or the wings of a butterfly.

At the core of this breakthrough is a phenomenon known as structural coloration, where colours are produced not by pigments but by the physical structure of a surface that interacts with light.

The study, carried out at the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), demonstrates how light can be manipulated at the nanoscale to produce colours that do not fade over time.

    Inspired by Nature
Unlike dyes or paints, structural colours arise when light waves are reflected, refracted or scattered by microscopic patterns. This is what gives the peacock its iridescent blues and greens that change with the angle of light.

The scientists at CeNS have used polystyrene nanospheres, each about 400 nanometres wide, to replicate this effect. These tiny beads, far smaller than a grain of sand, naturally arrange themselves into a hexagonal pattern when placed on water, forming what is called a close-packed monolayer.

Fine-Tuning Colours with Light and Geometry
Once this layer is formed, the team uses a technique called reactive ion etching—similar to a nano-scale sandblasting process—to slightly reduce the size of the spheres while maintaining their orderly arrangement. This changes how light interacts with the surface.

As light strikes this nanostructured layer, certain wavelengths are enhanced or suppressed. This means the reflected colour can be adjusted—simply by tilting the surface or changing the viewing angle, shifting it towards shades like blue.

The result is a vibrant, durable colour that does not fade under sunlight or over time, unlike traditional chemical dyes.

    Scalable and Sustainable
What makes this research notable is its practicality. The technique relies on self-assembly, a low-cost process where the particles naturally arrange themselves—making it scalable for large-area production without complex machinery.

According to the researchers, this approach could find applications in wearable sensors, anti-counterfeit labels, flexible displays, and even eco-friendly paints that do not release harmful chemicals into the environment.

The findings, recently published in the Journal of Applied Physics, highlight how understanding light’s interaction with matter at the nanoscale could lead to new materials with customisable optical properties.

    Bridging Science and Application
By showing how tiny changes in the geometry of these nanospheres influence how light is reflected, the CeNS team has opened new possibilities for advanced optical materials.

Such materials could eventually replace conventional pigments in various industries, helping reduce environmental impact while providing vibrant, long-lasting colours.

    Source: Government of India (4)

India has set up its first Equine Disease-Free Compartment (EDFC) at the Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC) Centre & College in Meerut Cantonment, Uttar Pradesh. The facility was officially recognised by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) on Thursday, marking a crucial step in enabling Indian sport horses to compete internationally in compliance with global biosecurity standards.

The EDFC, developed through the coordinated efforts of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Defence, the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI), and the Government of Uttar Pradesh, ensures strict adherence to WOAH’s guidelines for compartmentalisation. These include robust biosecurity measures, veterinary surveillance, and disease exclusion protocols.

The facility has been certified free from major equine diseases such as Equine Infectious Anemia, Equine Influenza, Equine Piroplasmosis, Glanders, and Surra, said the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying in a statement. Additionally, India has remained free of African Horse Sickness since 2014.

This recognition opens new avenues for Indian riders and horses to participate in international equestrian competitions and enhances India’s potential in equine trade, breeding, and sports. It also aligns with India’s broader strategy of strengthening animal health systems and promoting export readiness through science-based practices.

The success of the EDFC complements India’s parallel efforts in the poultry sector, where the country is working to develop Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) Free Compartments to facilitate safe exports of poultry products.

This achievement positions India as a rising leader in implementing internationally harmonised animal health systems, supporting both safe trade and emerging sectors like equestrian sports.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the United Kingdom today officially launched the ASEAN-UK Health Security Partnership Programme (HSP), a five-year programme, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as a major new initiative aimed at strengthening Southeast Asia’s ability to prevent, detect, and respond to health threats.

The UK-funded HSP programme will provide grant funding for projects in the ASEAN region which can improve health systems, enhance access to healthcare and strengthen ASEAN capacity to respond to new threats, like the health impacts of climate change. HSP will also establish expert partnerships between institutions in ASEAN and other parts of the world, including the UK, enabling the exchange of knowledge and joint development of innovative solutions. A third component will work with the Quadripartite (WHO, FAO, WOAH, UNEP) to support the ASEAN One Health Joint Plan of Action, helping to tackle threats such as antimicrobial resistance that require a coordinated ‘One Health’ approach across human, animal, environmental and plant health.

Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, welcomed the partnership:

The ASEAN-UK Health Security Partnership Programme is a timely initiative that complements ASEAN’s collective efforts in strengthening pandemic preparedness and building resilient healthcare systems. We value the UK’s commitment to meaningful and lasting cooperation with ASEAN.

UK Ambassador to ASEAN, Sarah Tiffin, said:

The COVID-19 pandemic showed us that no country is immune to global health threats. Through this programme, the UK is proud to work hand-in-hand with ASEAN to build long-term resilience and ensure a healthier, safer future for communities in the region and around the world.

By focussing on issues such as pandemic preparedness, emerging disease and health system resilience, the ASEAN-UK HSP programme will mobilise British and ASEAN expertise to tackle shared challenges and respond to the needs of ASEAN countries. This launch marks a key milestone under the ASEAN-UK Plan of Action (2022–2026), reinforcing the UK’s role as an ASEAN Dialogue Partner and its continued support for ASEAN’s priorities under the health cooperation pillar.
