    The panel discussion on the theme”Braving the Odds, Scripting a New Narrative” held at WAVES 2025 Global Summit today featured three inspiring speakers – Rona-Lee Shimon, well-known Israeli Actress famous for her strong roles in action-packed dramas like Fauda; Bianca Balti, globally recognized Italian model and cancer survivor; and Ariane Hingst, former German footballer and world champion – who have overcome personal or professional challenges while excelling in their fields.

     

    Instead of being held back by these challenges, the speakers used them as a chance to grow and build a new path forward. WAVES 2025 is all about celebrating people who turn tough experiences into strength and use their journeys to inspire others. It is a platform that honors courage, change and leadership, especially by those who break social barriers or rise above difficult situations.

    During the event, Ariane Hingst shared her journey as a professional footballer in a male-dominated sport. She spoke about overcoming gender bias to become a world champion and how she now uses her voice to promote fairness and equality in sports. She highlighted the lack of media coverage and proper platforms for women’s football compared to men’s and stressed the need for equal opportunities and recognition for women athletes.

     

    As part of the panel discussion, Bianca Balti, a globally recognized model and cancer survivor, shared her powerful story of resilience and her return to work after recovery. She spoke about the gender pay gap in the modeling industry, pointing out that female models are often paid less than their male counterparts and that men still occupy more space in media. Bianca emphasized that the true power of media especially social media lies in its ability to create change. It can help raise unheard voices, challenge inequality and promote fair representation, particularly for women.

     

     

    During the event, Rona-Lee Shimon highlighted that WAVES provides a platform for storytellers to change narratives and bring people together. She emphasized the importance of women uniting to create new opportunities in cinema, encouraging them to be brave, support one another, and not be afraid to stand up for change. She also noted that social media plays a key role in this movement by giving women the power to share their voices and stories. Known for her strong and dynamic roles on screen, Rona-Lee continues to break stereotypes in the entertainment industry, proving that strength, action, and depth are not defined by gender.

     

     

    Each speaker has faced personal or professional odds and instead of being defined by them, they’ve used those moments to rewrite their own story. That is exactly what WAVES 2025 stands for: celebrating individuals who are not just surviving challenges, but transforming them into platforms for change and inspiration.

    Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah today unveiled the statue and naming of Road and Rotary as a tribute to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma in New Delhi. Many dignitaries including Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta were present on the occasion.

    In his address, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah said that today is the 35th death anniversary of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, who fought for the respect and rights of his community and region all his life. To pay tribute to him, today his life-size statue and an important road in the capital Delhi have been named as Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg. Shri Shah said, the statue of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma is a tribute not only to Bodoland but to all the people of the country who struggled for the development of their language and religion. The Bodofa statue in New Delhi is a symbol of self-respect of the tribal society across the country.

    Shri Shah said that the statue installed in Delhi is not only a matter of respect for Bodoland but also for the struggle made by small tribes across the country for the upliftment and development of their language, religion, caste and the people.

    While paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack, the Home Minister told the families of those who lost their lives in the attack that this is not just their loss but the loss of the entire nation. Shri Shah said that the pain of the loss of lives in the Pahalgam attack is as much in the hearts of their families as it is in the heart of every citizen of the country. He said that, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has a zero tolerance policy against those involved in terrorism in Kashmir and we are fighting our battle strongly. The Home Minister said that the terrorists should not think that today they have won this battle by taking the lives of our citizens. Shri Shah said that this is not the end of the battle and every person responsible for terrorism will be answered and will also be asked to answer.

    Shri Amit Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, whether it’s insurgency in North East, Left Wing Extremism or terrorism in Kashmir, all these have been given befitted reply. He said that if anyone thinks that they have won by carrying out cowardly attacks, then they should know that this is the Modi Government which will not spare anyone. The Home Minister said that the resolve of the Modi Government to root out terrorism from the soil of India will be fulfilled. He said that not only 140 crore Indians but the entire world is standing with India in this fight. All the countries of the world are unitedly standing with the people of India in the fight against terrorism. He said that our fight will continue till terrorism is not eliminated and those who have committed this misdeed will definitely be punished.

    Union Home Minister said that today a 9 feet high statue of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma has been unveiled. Bodofa is known for fighting for respect, identity and equal rights not only for Bodoland and Bodo community but also for the entire tribal community. Shri Shah said that a tribal child born in a remote area of ​​the country united the entire tribal society and taught them to fight for their rights in a peaceful manner. Bodofa brought together people of all tribes living in abject poverty. Shri Shah said that today Bodofa is no more but his formula of live and let live has been accepted by the entire Bodoland and tribal society. He said that after the sacrifice of thousands of youth, today our Bodoland has moved ahead on the path of peace and development. Today the whole of Assam accepts the people of Bodoland and Bodoland accepts Assam. He said that the Bodo people have as much right on this country as all of us. The Home Minister said that since 2014, the government running in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi believes that everyone has a right on India and India has a right on everyone and under this principle, today Bodoland has moved ahead on the path of development.

    Shri Amit Shah said that after 9 months of extensive discussion, the Bodo Accord was signed in 2020 and all the people have joined the mainstream by laying down their arms. He said that the Modi government also abides by whatever agreements it makes. Our government is also abiding by the agreements made during the tenure of the previous government. He said that we have cleared 96 per cent of the issues of the Bodo Accord and will soon resolve 100 per cent of the issues. Shri Shah said that this is a huge gift of the Modi government to the people of Assam and the North East. He said that the Modi government has signed more than 20 agreements in the North East and more than 10 thousand people have laid down their arms and joined the mainstream. In more than 20 agreements, 78 per cent of the issues have been fulfilled by the Modi government in the last 3-4 years. He said that this shows that we do what we say and today the whole of Assam has moved forward on the path of peace.

    Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation said that now the Bodo youth should carry forward the basic idea of ​​Bathou religion with the motto of live and let live and contribute to the development of Assam. He said that today Assam has become a center of attraction for industrial investment in the entire country and many industries are developing in Assam. He said that our North East has more than 220 ethnic groups, over 160 tribes, more than 200 languages ​​and dialects, more than 50 unique festivals, over 30 traditional dance styles and more than 100 delicious dishes. Home Minister said that the culture of North East and Assam is a priceless jewel of the culture of India. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has done a lot of work for the development of Assam and North East. Shri Narendra Modi is the only Prime Minister who has visited North East more than 50 times after becoming the Prime Minister. Shri Shah said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has visited even the remote areas like Bodoland many times, which shows that our North East is a very big and important part of the country. He said that the culture and strength of the North East are priceless and the Modi government is working with this objective of using the strength of the entire nation in the development of the North East.

    Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah today addressed a program on the occasion of Gujarat and Maharashtra Day in New Delhi. Many dignitaries including Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Shri VK Saxena and Chief Minister of Delhi Smt. Rekha Gupta were present on the occasion.

    In his address, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has taken steps to preserve the purity and sanctity of Yamuna water from Yamunotri to Prayagraj and to build a riverfront on the lines of Sabarmati in Delhi. He said that purification of Yamuna is of utmost importance not only for the people of Delhi and its neighboring states but also for all Indians who worship Shri Krishna and Yamuna ji.

    Union Home Minister said that today is the foundation day of both Gujarat and Maharashtra. He said that Gujarat and Maharashtra have set an excellent example of how two states formed out of one state can lead the country through their development by respecting each other and with a healthy competition between them without any bitterness. He said that people who wanted to divide the country by making the issues of boundaries, language and culture were succeeding in their ill intentions but Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji foiled all these evil ideas. He said Shri Narendra Modi has taken the resolution of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, the result of which is that today every language and culture draws strength from each other.

    Shri Amit Shah said that there is no competition between Marathi and Gujarati and both are great languages ​​in their own places. He said that the idea of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat is an ideal example of how one can fight against those that adversely impact our unity. He said that on May 1, 1960, two states were born from the state of Mumbai, one became glorious Gujarat and the other became great Maharashtra. He said that both the states have contributed a lot in solving every problem of the country and taking development forward for many years.

    Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation said that Maharashtra, the land of Veer Chhatrapati, carried forward his tradition and from Bajirao Peshwa to other generals, gave a strong fight to the Mughals and raised the flag of mother language, self rule and self religion.

    He said that the first idea of ​​complete independence was put forward by young Shivaji Maharaj and when the British rule came it was taken forward by Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak Maharaj who gave the slogan of Swaraj is my birthright,. Shri Shah said that whether it is Bhakti movement or the progressive path of social reform, Jyotiba Phule, Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Ji, all showed the way not only to Maharashtra but to the entire country. He said that Veer Savarkar ji became the source of inspiration for crores of youth across the country as a dedicated patriot.

    Shri Amit Shah said that Gujarat was also the karmabhoomi of Shri Krishna and the birthplace of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. He said that many strong empires were born in Gujarat and in the freedom struggle, Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel worked to give shape to the entire freedom movement. He said that after independence, India has been able to cover such a long distance today only under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in achieving the goal of development and uniting the country and strengthening it to reach the highest position in the world.

    Union Home Minister said that the contribution of both Maharashtra and Gujarat in the development of India has been huge before and after independence. He said that today Garba is celebrated with the same enthusiasm in Maharashtra and during Ganesh Utsav in Gujarat, Ganpati is brought to every house with respect. He said that this is the biggest strength of our country. Shri Shah said that both the states are standing as very strong pillars of the country’s economic development. He said that Maharashtra has always been the economic capital of the country and even today it is the country’s largest economy. Home Minister said that Gujarat’s GSDP has also crossed 30 lakh crores and it is the third largest economy of the country. Gujarat has the largest port, the largest refinery, Asia’s largest renewable energy park, the first bullet train will go from Gujarat, the first GIFT city and now Dholera Smart City is also being built in Gujarat. He said that Vibrant Gujarat and Magnificent Maharashtra have become strong pillars of the country’s development. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, both the states have finalized the roadmap for their development till 2047.

    Shri Amit Shah said that Gujarat and Maharashtra have accepted modernity while preserving their heritage and have contributed a lot to the unity and integrity of the country. He said that in Modi ji’s vision of a great India, both the states have accepted the formula of healthy competition between the states and the development of the country through it. Shri Shah said that when a developed India will be formed in 2047, both the states will have the biggest contribution in it.

    In a landmark moment for Northeast Indian cinema, a panel discussion titled “Challenges and Prospects of Cinema in Northeast India” was held at the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai. The session brought together some of the most prominent voices from the region’s film industry to explore its vibrant cinematic landscape.


    The panel featured acclaimed filmmakers and actors including Jahnu Barua, Jatin Bora, Ravi Sarma, Aimee Baruah, HaobamPaban Kumar, and Dominic Sangma, all of whom have played instrumental roles in shaping the film culture of the Northeast.

     

    The discussion addressed a range of challenges faced by filmmakers in the region, including inadequate production infrastructure, language barriers, limited market access and a lack of institutional support. Despite these hurdles, the panelists unanimously agreed that the Northeast remains a fertile ground for cinematic innovation and cultural storytelling.

    Veteran filmmaker Jahnu Barua remarked thatthe Northeast is a reservoir of talent. Filmmakers from this region are producing remarkable work. He emphasized the region’s rich socio-cultural fabric and its abundance of untold stories. The future of Northeast cinema is very bright, with many young talents emerging, he added.

    Jatin Bora, a celebrated actor from Assam, highlighted the limited reach of Northeastern films beyond regional boundaries. Speaking on the need for digital distribution, he said, Assam needs OTT platforms to better market its films. He urged the government to support the creation of such platforms to help regional films reach broader audiences. He also called on both central and state governments to develop long-term policies to support the regional film ecosystem, stressing that without a robust distribution network, even the best films struggle to cross state lines.

    Ravi Sarma spoke about the urgent need for systemic investment in the region’s creative infrastructure. Financial backing and marketing infrastructure are crucial for the growth of the regional industry. The Northeast holds millions of beautiful and unique stories, he said.

    Actor-director Aimee Baruah focused on the role of cinema in preserving linguistic diversity. “Our languages carry centuries of oral history. Film is a powerful medium to protect and promote them,” she noted.

    Filmmakers HaobamPaban Kumar and Dominic Sangma shared insights into grassroots-level filmmaking in the region, pointing out how many storytellers continue to work without formal support systems.

    The session concluded on a hopeful note, with panellists calling for policy reforms, regional collaborations, and strategic use of OTT platforms to break traditional barriers. They urged all stakeholders, government bodies, private investors and national studios to come together in recognizing and elevating the cinematic voices of the Northeast.

    “India is not just a nation—it is a civilization of stories, where story-telling is a way of life”, said Shri Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, as he delivered the keynote address at WAVES 2025, the pioneering global media and entertainment summit started in Mumbai today.

    In a rousing and forward-looking address titled “Building the Next Global Entertainment Revolution from India,” Ambani envisioned a future where India becomes the epicentre of the world’s entertainment industry. He credited the bold vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for inspiring this transformation and hailed the WAVE Summit as a historic step in that direction. “People say Media & Entertainment is India’s soft power—I call it India’s real power,” said Ambani, affirming the country’s rising influence in global culture and creativity.

    He identified two tectonic shifts reshaping the creative landscape: geo-economics and technology. As the economic might of the Global South surges—home to 85% of the world’s population—so does its role in content creation and consumption. At the same time, cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence are revolutionizing every stage of the entertainment value chain, from content creation to distribution. “AI is dissolving the boundaries between imagination and execution. What AI is doing for entertainment today is a million times more transformative than what the silent camera did for cinema a century ago”, he flagged.

    Highlighting India’s unique strengths, Ambani said that the country is poised to lead the entertainment revolution, powered by three pillars; Compelling Content, Dynamic Demography and Technological Leadership. “India’s digital revolution is not just a story of scale—it is a story of aspiration, ambition, and transformation,” he declared.

    Concluding his keynote, Ambani offered a message of optimism: “In a polarized and uncertain world, people seek joy, connection, and inspiration. India will answer this global hunger for entertainment. Let WAVES be the message of hope from a resurgent new India to the world.”

    Reaffirming its commitment and highlighting the strides taken by various States and Union Territories in the Ayush sector, the National Ayush Mission (NAM) Conclave 2025 commenced today at Kaivalyadhama, Lonavala (Maharashtra). The event sets the stage for a future roadmap to consolidate and expand the outreach of Ayush services across the nation.

    Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Union Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare inaugurated the two-day conclave, along with Ayush/Health Ministers and senior officials from various State and UT governments including Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister-in-charge of Ayush, Government of Rajasthan; Shri Y. Satya Kumar Yadav, Minister of Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh; Dr. Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, Food Safety, and Drug Administration, Government of Uttar Pradesh; Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education, Government of Chhattisgarh; Shri Yadvinder Goma, Minister of Ayush, Youth Services & Sports, and Law, Government of Himachal Pradesh;  Shri G.T. Dhungel, Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Culture, Government of Sikkim; and Smt. Pi Lalrinpuii, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Mizoram.

    Organised by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, the conclave has brought together Ayush experts, policymakers, health professionals, researchers, and innovators. It aims to strengthen the integration of traditional Indian systems of medicine into mainstream healthcare—making wellness more accessible, affordable, and evidence-based for the common citizen.

    Setting the tone of the conclave, the Union Ayush Minister said, “It is noteworthy that the Ministry had organised a NAM Conclave in 2023, where Hon’ble Ministers and senior officials from various States and UTs shared valuable insights for the effective implementation of the NAM scheme. That dialogue resulted in the formulation of an action plan to improve the execution and outcomes of the National Ayush Mission. The initiative of establishment of 12,500 Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) has significantly enhanced healthcare availability, with the number of beneficiaries rising from 1.5 crore in 2021 to more than 11.5 crore in 2025. As a result, there has been a remarkable improvement in the accessibility of Ayush healthcare services, driven by improved infrastructure, availability of medicines, trained manpower, and strengthened educational institutions.”

    Encouraged by the previous success, the Union Minister added, “I am confident that this second edition of the National Ayush Mission Conclave will serve as a robust platform for both States/UTs and the Central Government to jointly review the Mission’s progress, strengthen governance systems, promote innovation, streamline financial processes, and ensure rapid and effective implementation of programmes at the grassroots level.     Delivering the welcome address, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Union Ministry of Ayush, emphasized the growing significance of the Ayush sector through NAM, and stated, “Since its inception in 2014 with an initial budget of ₹78 crore, the National Ayush Mission has witnessed a remarkable increase in allocation, reaching ₹1275 crore in 2025–26—reflecting the immense success of the scheme and the unwavering commitment of the Government of India towards strengthening Ayush healthcare across the country. Ayush systems are gaining prominence due to their holistic approach, personalized care, and increasing global interest, backed by strong government support. According to NSSO (2022–23), nearly 95% of rural and 96% of urban Indians are aware of Ayush, with millions regularly practicing Yoga—signifying growing trust and nationwide acceptance”, the Secretary further added.

    Dr. Dayashankar Mishra, Minister of Ayush, Uttar Pradesh, lauded the efforts of the Union Government to boost the integrative healthcare infrastructure of the state through progressive schemes such as the National Ayush Mission. The Minister also mentioned, “Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in the world, has made remarkable progress in the Ayush sector. Currently, the state has 3,959 operational Ayush hospitals, offering facilities with capacities of 4 beds, 15 beds, 25 beds, and 30 beds.”

    Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Chhattisgarh mentioned, “Integrated Medicine offers a meaningful solution by combining Ayush and modern medical systems, providing dual benefits to patients.”

    Shri Prem Chand Bairwa, Deputy Chief Minister, Rajasthan, mentioned, “Through the joint efforts of Hon’ble Union Ayush Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Ayush Secretary, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, and the State Government, Ayurveda is being brought to the grassroots level. The two-day Conclave is expected to be a milestone in the development of Ayurveda. The State Government is preparing a comprehensive Ayush policy aimed at the integrated growth of all Ayush systems.

    Shri Yadvinder Goma, Minister of Ayush, Himachal Pradesh highlighted how with the support through National Ayush Mission the healthcare infrastructure continues to grow. He also stated, “Himachal Pradesh has developed an integrated model in the Ayush sector, combining traditional knowledge with modern technology, ensuring outreach to rural areas, focusing on women’s health, and enhancing transparency through digital solutions. This progress is a meaningful step towards realising Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Ayushman Bharat’.

    Smt. Pi Lalrinpuii, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Mizoram, stated  “I am pleased to note that since the establishment of our Ayush Wellness Centers, various Ayush systems have gained considerable popularity in just a few years. This progress is largely due to the unwavering support we receive from the Ministry and the relentless efforts of our dedicated teams at state and central level.”

    Shri G.T. Dhungel, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Sikkim, appreciated the assistance of the Union Government through the National Ayush Mission and said, “The Government of Sikkim has been constantly working to ensure delivery of healthcare in all areas of the state and the NAM scheme has helped developing the integrative healthcare infrastructure in the state to greatly complement these efforts.”

    Speaking on the themes of the Conclave, Ms. Kavita Garg, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, shared key milestones: “Additionally, 5.6 crore beneficiaries have availed services at Ayush tertiary care institutions. NABH entry-level certification for 1,372 Ayush Health and Wellness Centres, and the establishment of 189 Integrated Ayush Hospitals reflect our commitment to quality and accessibility. ”

    A key highlight of the inaugural session was the release of the Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs) on Metabolic Disorders in Ayush Systems of Medicine by the Hon’ble Union Minister and other dignitaries. Developed by the Ayush Vertical in collaboration with various Research Councils, these guidelines cover five major metabolic disorders—Diabetes Mellitus, Obesity, Gout, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), and Dyslipidemia. Vetted by Allopathic experts, the STGs integrate Yoga, disease-specific dietary protocols, and standardized clinical procedures to serve as a comprehensive reference for practitioners, educators, and primary healthcare providers across the country.

    The inaugural session was followed by a roundtable discussion among the participating Ayush/Health ministers from various states/UTs focused on the way forward for strengthening Ayush services in the country through NAM activities in their respective states. The session was chaired by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush wherein the ministers and concerned officials from states and UTs exchanged their experiential wisdom while pointing out respective future strategies to address the challenges and negotiate the opportunities.

    During the program a special Y-Break session was also organised with enthusiastic participation from all led by Honourable Ministers and senior officials.

     

    About the National Ayush Mission (NAM):

    The flagship program National Ayush Mission launched in 2014 and it has played a crucial role in preserving and promoting India’s traditional systems of medicine and their integration into the mainstream healthcare system. It aims to enhance the availability, accessibility, and quality of Ayush healthcare services across the country through Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) as part of Government of India’s Ayushman Bharat scheme.

    In the last edition of NAM Conclave held in 2023, several key resolutions were adopted, including expansion of Ayush Health and Wellness Centres (now AAM-Ayush), integration of Ayush services with National Health Programs, and capacity building of Ayush practitioners.     An Inter-Ministerial delegation from India, led by the Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, is participating in the Conference of the Parties (COPs) to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) Conventions, taking place in Geneva from 30th April to 1st May, 2025. The theme of this year’s high-level segment is “Make visible the invisible: Sound management of chemicals and wastes.”

    During his address in opening ceremony, Shri Bhupender Yadav emphasized that the theme reflects the global imperative of addressing the often-unseen threats of chemical and waste mismanagement. He reiterated India’s commitment to environmentally sound policies, underpinned by a robust legal and institutional framework.

    Key Interventions and Bilateral Engagements

    At the ministerial roundtable on ‘Means of Implementation’, Shri Yadav highlighted that the effective execution of the BRS Conventions relies significantly on access to finance, technology transfer, capacity-building, technical assistance, and strengthened international cooperation. He outlined India’s integrated approach to implementing the conventions through national legislation such as the Environment (Protection) Act, the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, and the E-Waste Management Rules, 2016, which are supported by sustained investments in institutional and technical infrastructure.

    On the sidelines of the COPs, the Union Minister Shri Yadav participated in a consultation meeting organized by Norway on the work of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution. He apprised participants of India’s domestic initiatives such as the ban on identified single-use plastic items and the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for plastic packaging.

    Shri Yadav further underlined India’s pioneering role in international environmental governance under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, highlighting that India introduced a resolution on single use plastics at UNEA-4, bringing the issue to the center of global discourse.

    During the bilateral meeting with Ms. Katrin Schneeberger, Director of the Federal Office for the Environment, Switzerland, Shri Yadav discussed matters related to the development of a legally binding international instrument on plastic pollution, and India’s support for the establishment of a Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals and Waste, as mandated by UNEA resolutions.

    The High-Level Segment of the BRS COPs features ministerial roundtables and interactive dialogues focused on collaborative global action.

    Reaffirming its commitment and highlighting the strides taken by various States and Union Territories in the Ayush sector, the National Ayush Mission (NAM) Conclave 2025 commenced today at Kaivalyadhama, Lonavala (Maharashtra). The event sets the stage for a future roadmap to consolidate and expand the outreach of Ayush services across the nation.

    Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Union Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare inaugurated the two-day conclave, along with Ayush/Health Ministers and senior officials from various State and UT governments including Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister-in-charge of Ayush, Government of Rajasthan; Shri Y. Satya Kumar Yadav, Minister of Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh; Dr. Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, Food Safety, and Drug Administration, Government of Uttar Pradesh; Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education, Government of Chhattisgarh; Shri Yadvinder Goma, Minister of Ayush, Youth Services & Sports, and Law, Government of Himachal Pradesh;  Shri G.T.     Organised by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, the conclave has brought together Ayush experts, policymakers, health professionals, researchers, and innovators. It aims to strengthen the integration of traditional Indian systems of medicine into mainstream healthcare—making wellness more accessible, affordable, and evidence-based for the common citizen.

    Setting the tone of the conclave, the Union Ayush Minister said, “It is noteworthy that the Ministry had organised a NAM Conclave in 2023, where the Ministers and senior officials from various States and UTs shared valuable insights for the effective implementation of the NAM scheme. That dialogue resulted in the formulation of an action plan to improve the execution and outcomes of the National Ayush Mission. The initiative of establishment of 12,500 Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) has significantly enhanced healthcare availability, with the number of beneficiaries rising from 1.5 crore in 2021 to more than 11.5 crore in 2025. As a result, there has been a remarkable improvement in the accessibility of Ayush healthcare services, driven by improved infrastructure, availability of medicines, trained manpower, and strengthened educational institutions.”

    Encouraged by the previous success, the Union Minister added, “I am confident that this second edition of the National Ayush Mission Conclave will serve as a robust platform for both States/UTs and the Central Government to jointly review the Mission’s progress, strengthen governance systems, promote innovation, streamline financial processes, and ensure rapid and effective implementation of programmes at the grassroots level.     • IPPB introduced Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana in 2023, an affordable insurance scheme aimed at providing comprehensive coverage and protection to the unorganized sector workers.

    On the occasion of Labour Day, India Post Payments Bank reiterates its commitment to the welfare of Shramiks or labourers. IPPB launched the Antyodaya Shramik Suraksha Yojana (ASSY) for unorganised sector workers, a visionary and affordable insurance scheme aimed at providing comprehensive coverage and protection to the unorganized sector workers. The scheme was launched by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat on 8th July 2023 at Kheda, Gujarat.

    Since the inception of ASSY, a total of 6,97,531 policies have been issued to labourers or Shramiks. A total of 355 claims have been settled and claim amount of Rs. 5,41,17,754 has been disbursed. The scheme is being offered through IPPB & issued by its six insurance partners including New India Assurance, Bajaj Allianz general Insurance, TATA AIG General Insurance, Niva Bupa Health Insurance, Aditya Birla Health Insurance and Start Health.

    Sharing his thoughts on Labour Day, Mr. R. Viswesvaran, MD & CEO, India Post Payments Bank said “We are committed to the welfare and upliftment of labourers. For this reason, we had implemented the Antyodaya Shramik Suranksha Yojana for the labourers which has helped lakhs of Shramiks improve their quality of life and well-being”.

    Miss Law paid a courtesy call on and attended a lunch hosted by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mr Chang Hua. She briefed Ambassador Chang on her visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the last three days, from which she gained enriching and insightful experience. The trip combined cultural exploration and artistic exchange, fostering a deeper understanding of the country’s inclusive values. She remarked that the visit marked a promising beginning for strengthening mutual ties between Hong Kong and the UAE, particularly in enhancing cultural dialogue. Ambassador Chang noted Saudi Arabia’s gradual openness to embrace the coexistence of diverse cultures. He said that Hong Kong needs to capitalise on and leverage its advantages as a cosmopolitan city, especially its rich tourism resources. Miss Law shared the latest initiatives aimed at boosting tourism in Hong Kong, emphasising tlhe notable interest of the UAE and Saudi Arabia in horse racing tourism, which has long been one of Hong Kong’s most popular attractions.
     
    In the afternoon, Miss Law met with the Chief Marketing Officer of the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, Mr Kiran Haslam. They exchanged views on cultural heritage preservation and explored potential investment and business opportunities. Miss Law also toured the At-Turaif UNESCO World Heritage Site, and was amazed by the Authority’s vision to transform Diriyah into a premier destination—a beautifully preserved mud-brick city, recognised as the birthplace of Saudi Arabia, and a global hub for tourism.

    The media and entertainment (M&E) sector’s evolving landscape and the need for a balanced regulatory framework took prominence at the breakout sessions held as part of the global summit WAVES 2025 which was kickstarted in Mumbai today.

    The breakout session on Regulating Broadcast in the Digital Age – Key Frameworks & Challenges featured prominent voices from international and Indian media regulatory bodies. Panelists included Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Ms. Philomena Gnanapragasam, Director, Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD); Mr. Ahmed Nadeem, Secretary General, Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and Ms. Carolina Lorenzo, Director, International Affairs, Mediaset.

    Shri Lahoti outlined India’s regulatory evolution from the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act of 1995 to the digitisation of cable TV and TRAI’s current focus on consumer choice and quality of service. He emphasised TRAI’s efforts in ensuring a level playing field and advocated for deregulation wherever consumer interests are not compromised.

    The Panelists discussed the rapid rise of Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms and the complexities they introduce. With India’s digital media market reaching USD 9.7 billion in 2024, the need for balanced regulation is paramount. Shri Lahoti underscored TRAI’s proposals for digital radio, simplified network architecture, and a national broadcasting policy.

    Ms. Gnanapragasam highlighted the importance of media literacy in tandem with regulation. Mr. Nadeem advocated for a phased approach to regulation to encourage innovation while ensuring accountability. Ms. Carolina Lorenzo, Director, International Affairs, Mediaset, pointed to Europe’s experience with platform accountability and put light upon the emerging challenges of network effects in software and hardware in technologies such as smart TVs.

    The session concluded with consensus on the need for cohesive regulation while protecting the interests of the consumer and reducing regulatory complexity.

    WAVES 2025 witnessed a convergence of innovation, creativity, and cutting-edge technology with Artificial Intelligence at the heart of the discourse. Three sessions held on the inaugural day of the Summit in Mumbai today, led by global industry figures, mapped the dynamic intersection of AI with media, storytelling, and digital production—reaffirming India’s rising stature in this creative-technological evolution.

    In the keynote address on “Design, Media and Creativity in the Age of AI”, Adobe Chairman and CEO Shantanu Narayen offered an expansive perspective on the evolving creative economy. Tracing the digital journey from the internet to mobile and now to artificial intelligence, Narayen pointed to India’s growing role in content creation, with over 500 million Indians consuming online content and a significant shift towards regional languages.

    He stressed that AI is not replacing creativity but amplifying it. “Generative AI is enabling Indian creators to transcend traditional mediums,” he said, noting how it supports diverse storytelling across imaging, video, and design. From cinema to real-time mobile storytelling, the creative potential is expanding.

    Highlighting India’s unique position in building AI-powered frameworks—from applications to data infrastructure—Narayen outlined a four-fold strategy: supercharge creativity and production, innovate business models, lead an AI-skilled workforce, and foster entrepreneurship. He concluded by thanking the Government of India and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for creating a visionary platform through WAVES.

    In a thought-provoking fireside chat titled “AI Beyond Work”, Richard Kerris, Vice President at NVIDIA, and Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, NVIDIA India, explored how AI is redefining personal computing and creative productivity.

    Reflecting on the evolution of the PC era, Dhupar remarked, “PCs used to sleep after office hours. But humans don’t.” He explained how NVIDIA’s early vision—imagining PCs as creative companions—now resonates in a world powered by AI.

    Kerris provided a historical view, recalling the complexities of mastering 3D animation in the past. “Now, with generative AI, we can go from idea to creation much faster,” he said. Yet, he cautioned against losing touch with fundamentals: “Just because we all have a camera on our phone doesn’t make us all great photographers.”

    The speakers agreed that AI enhances human creativity rather than replacing it. “AI puts tools in your hands—but knowing the craft, the basics, that’s still essential,” Kerris stressed. Dhupar concluded: “Creative people live their work. AI doesn’t replace that—it enables it.”

    The third session, a masterclass by Anish Mukherjee, Solutions Architect at NVIDIA, focused on the practical applications of generative AI in media. Titled “Bringing Stories to Life with Gen AI”, the session spotlighted NVIDIA’s platform approach, moving beyond hardware to transformative tools.

    Mukherjee demonstrated AI-powered solutions including converting static images to digital humans, multilingual voice-overs, and audio-based character animation. Using NVIDIA’s Fugato model, he showcased AI-generated music and realistic lip-syncing for dubbing. He also introduced Cosmos, a suite of foundational models for video generation and simulation-based training via the Omniverse platform.

    Explaining the convergence of large language models with AI animation and DLSS, he noted their role in creating immersive storytelling experiences, especially in game development. “AI-powered characters that respond intelligently to players are redefining narrative engagement,” he said.

    Mukherjee closed with a call to harness compute power, rich datasets, and algorithmic strength to unlock generative AI’s full potential. NVIDIA’s open-source ecosystem, including Nemostack, empowers creators to develop custom models, furthering innovation across industries.

    WAVES 2025: Setting the Stage for AI-Led Creative Transformation

    As discussions unfolded across the sessions, a unifying message emerged—AI is a tool for empowerment, not replacement. Whether in design, film, animation, or storytelling, the future belongs to those who understand the basics, harness new tools responsibly, and build systems rooted in ethics, creativity, and inclusion. WAVES 2025 thus stands as a testament to India’s pivotal role in the global creative and technological landscape.

    To enhance road safety, enable proactive measures and bring behavioural change among road users, a day-long ‘National Brainstorming Seminar on Road Safety Policy 2025’ was organised by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in New Delhi.

    The day-long deliberations and insightful panel discussions were held with various stakeholders to suggest, highlight and reconcile measures pertaining to various aspects of road safety that can be implemented in the National Road Safety Policy to save precious lives.

    The seminar focused on eight thematic areas, which will provide action plan for road safety. Panel discussions with stakeholders and industry experts were held on various topics which included Accident Spot Rectification and Proactive Hazard Mitigation, Improving Effectiveness of District Road Safety Committees, School Zone Road Safety, Behavioural Change and Effective Communication, Evidence Driven Enforcement, Implementation of Driver Training, Licensing and Policies, Strengthening Vehicular Safety Standards, Post Crash Response, Highway Rescue and Cashless Treatment.  

    Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister for Road Transport and Highways; Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Ajay Tamta; Senior officials from Ministry, NHAI, Secretary PWD, Secretary Transport, ADG (Traffic) of States, Education Ministry from Government of India, World Bank, WHO, UNICEF, SaveLIFE Foundation, Road Safety Experts, DPR Consultants, Consultants, Contractors, Research institutions and NGOs were present on the occasion. 

    Participating in the discussions Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari shared his valuable insights to enable thought provoking and impactful deliberations on different topics. He emphasised the need to intervene at the DPR stage of road building itself, whether it is broad engineering issues or school zones. Imploring the audience to find solutions grounded in data and evidence, he highlighted how small and low-cost interventions can play a significant role in saving lives.

    Shri Ajay Tamta, Hon’ble Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways encouraged all stakeholders to actively participate and make roads safer for every commuter and road user.

    Setting the context of the seminar, Shri V Umashankar, Secretary, MoRTH said, “Road safety is a cause that touches every citizen. This brainstorming session is an important step toward shaping the National Road Safety Policy 2025. Our goal is to have concrete, evidence-based, and implementable recommendations across all aspects of road safety. We have a clear objective to drastically reduce fatalities by 2030. With the collective participation from all stakeholders, we can make India a global model for road safety. This daylong seminar is a platform for collaborative action, and I am sure this will lead to building a safer, smarter road ecosystem across the country.”

    Addressing the audience, Shri Vishal Chauhan, Member (Administration), NHAI emphasised that Road safety needs to be addressed on a larger scale in a very holistic manner. Today’s seminar brings together all key stakeholders on a single platform for a focused, action-driven dialogue.  

    In pursuance of the Government of India’s mission of reducing road accident casualties by 50% by the end of 2030, the day-long brainstorming seminar not only addressed the vital issues in ensuring road safety for all, but also helped in outlining key aspects that will help in shaping the policy for safety of road users across the country.

    Shri. Rakesh Verma, assumes charge as Director General, India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi here today.  Shri Verma is a 1993 batch IAS Officer from Punjab Cadre. He holds a degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Delhi. 

    2. Prior to this, he was serving as Additional Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti. Earlier he also served as Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism.

    3. Shri. Ashish Goyal, assumed charge as Director General, Media in the Election Commission of India (ECI) today. Shri Goyal is a 1996 batch IIS officer. He holds a Masters in Business Administration from Panjab University and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.

    4. Prior to this, he was serving as the Director General of National Museum, Ministry of Culture with additional charge of Director, Salar Jung Museum.

Moderated by Gautam Anand, Vice President, YouTube APAC, the session brought together four extraordinary creators whose journeys, rooted in passion and purpose, have quietly transformed corners of the digital world.

    Gautam Anand began by echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision from the inaugural ceremony of a billion voices rising from India. He called creators the very heart of YouTube, beating with diversity and depth, capable of shaping narratives that ripple across borders.

    The session opened with a moment that stunned the audience, Japanese creator Mayo Murasaki, of the popular channel Mayo Japan, began speaking fluently

    The inaugural day of WAVES 2025 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai, featured a compelling panel discussion titled “Indian M&E @100: Reimagining the Future of Media and Entertainment.” The session brought together leading voices from the industry to reflect on its growth and the road ahead as India moves towards 2047. The discussion was moderated by Vanita Kohli Khandekar, Contributing Editor, Business Standard.

    Opening the session, Vanita Kohli Khandekar recalled how the media and entertainment sector, valued at just ₹500 crore around the year 2000, has now grown into a ₹70,000 crore industry. She pointed to two policy decisions that played a critical role in fuelling this growth—the granting of industry status to filmmaking and the initial tax exemptions granted to multiplexes. She also posed an important question on the ability of AI not just to improve content quality, but also to aid in its monetisation. Emphasizing the country’s cultural and linguistic diversity, she underlined that scaling must be inclusive and sensitive to India’s varied audience.

    Vinit Karnik, Managing Director, GroupM, noted that 60% of the advertising revenue in the M&E sector today comes from digital platforms. He observed that the sector has undergone significant disruptions over the last few years, which have fundamentally reshaped how content is consumed and marketed. While acknowledging AI as a strong enabler, he emphasised that content must remain humanised—especially at a time when culture itself is being shaped by mobile technology. He highlighted the need to use technology constructively to enhance storytelling and informed the audience about Mumbai University’s new course on prompt engineering aimed at equipping future professionals.

    Rajan Navani, Founder and CEO of JetSynthesys, focused on the future of content delivery, which he believes will evolve into cross-platform interactive experiences. He stated that India holds just 2–3% of the global M&E market, and to further increase this share by 2047, it is imperative to invest in talent and enhance the country’s investment capacity. He noted that entertainment is becoming increasingly dynamic and will require different technologies for different formats. Addressing Vanita’s concerns on monetization, he pointed out the relatively low disposable income in India compared to developed markets, but expressed optimism that sustained economic growth will boost consumer spending. He cited the example of the Global e-Cricket Premier League, where audiences are already engaging in individualized consumption and payments.

    Vikram Tanna, CEO of Eros Now, called for India to aspire to become a global hub for AI innovation in media. He argued that AI would transform both the creation and delivery of content, enabling new ways for users to become creators. According to him, the digital age will present numerous inflection points, and strategic interventions are required to ensure that India remains competitive. He emphasized that simplifying new technologies—making them as accessible as the internet—will naturally expand the business. He concluded the session by noting that, in this evolving environment, it is crucial for the industry to understand how to engage with machines and harness the vast content landscape for advertising and audience engagement.

    The session offered a forward-looking view of India’s M&E sector, underscoring the interplay of policy, technology, talent, and cultural relevance in shaping its future. WAVES 2025 continues at Jio World Centre till May 4, with sessions highlighting global trends in audio-visual and entertainment industries.

    India is set to host the Global Media Dialogue (GMD) for the first time as part of WAVES tomorrow in Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in the country’s engagement with the global media and entertainment landscape. The Dialogue is being organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, with support from the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

    Over 60 countries are expected to participate in the event, with delegations from across Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Nations such as Russia, Japan, UK, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and several others will be represented at the ministerial and senior official levels. The Dialogue aims to encourage international collaboration, promote best practices, and explore avenues for policy alignment, talent exchange, and capacity building in the global media space.

    The outcome of the Dialogue is expected to be a ‘WAVES Declaration’ by participating countries reaffirming the importance of international cooperation in the media and entertainment sector and laying the groundwork for future engagements and partnerships. India, with its vibrant media ecosystem and rapidly growing entertainment industry, is uniquely positioned to host such a dialogue. The GMD marks a pivotal moment in placing India at the center of global conversations on media’s role in shaping the world.

    The Global Media Dialogue will bring together key stakeholders from around the world to discuss the evolving role of media and entertainment in shaping societies, economies, and international cooperation. The Dialogue will offer a platform for open conversations on the evolving landscape of the media and entertainment sector. With rapid technological changes, shifting content trends, and growing global interconnectedness, the Dialogue aims to encourage the exchange of ideas, experiences, and perspectives on the role of media in shaping societies, fostering innovation, and promoting international cooperation.

    On the sidelines of WAVES, India is also holding bilateral meetings with more than 10 countries, including the United Kingdom, Russia, Indonesia, Kenya, Bhutan, and Egypt, as well as international organizations like the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). These engagements reflect India’s commitment to strengthening global cooperation and fostering partnerships across key areas of mutual interest.

    The event will be graced by senior Indian leadership, including the Hon’ble Minister of External Affairs Dr. S Jaishankar, the Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting and Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Minister of State for I&B and Parliamentary Affairs Dr. L Murugan. The presence of high level dignitaries will underscore India’s commitment to fostering a robust, inclusive, and forward-looking global media environment.

    Air Marshal Tejinder Singh took over as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), Training Command on 01 May 2025. After assumption of his new appointment, the Air Marshal paid homage to the brave hearts by laying wreath at the Training Command War Memorial. 

    An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Air Marshal Tejinder was commissioned in the fighter stream of the IAF on 13 June 1987. He is a Category ‘A’ Qualified Flying Instructor with over 4500 hours of flying, an alumnus of Defence Service Staff College and National Defence College. He has commanded a Fighter Squadron, a Radar Station, a premier Fighter Base and was Air Officer Commanding, Jammu and Kashmir. His varied staff appointments include Operational Staff at a Command HQ, Air Commodore (Personnel Officers-1) at Air HQ, Deputy Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, Financial (Planning) at HQ IDS, Air Commodore (Aerospace Safety), Assistant Chief of Air Staff Operations (Offensive) and ACAS Ops (Strategy) and Senior Air Staff Officer, Eastern Air Command at Shillong, Meghalaya. Prior to his present appointment, he was the Deputy Chief of the Air Staff at Air HQ (VB). 

    In recognition of his meritorious services he was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal in 2007 and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2022, by the Hon’ble President of India.

    A high-level Brainstorming Session on “Pumped Storage Projects: Powering India’s Renewable Future” was successfully organized today at the SCOPE Convention Centre, New Delhi, by THDC India Ltd. and Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in association with NTPC, with the support of CBIP & INCOLD.

    The session witnessed the participation of over 300 distinguished delegates including top government officials, policymakers, developers, environmental experts, regulators, and senior representatives from the public and private sectors from near about 95 organisations and institutions from all around the country. The day-long event focused on the growing role of Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) in supporting India’s renewable energy transition and achieving the national target of net zero emissions by 2070.

    The event was graced by Sh. Pankaj Agarwal (IAS), Secretary, Ministry of Power, GoI, as the Chief Guest, along with Sh. Akash Tripathi (IAS), Additional Secretary (Hydro), Ministry of Power, GoI, as the Guest of Honour. Shri M.G. Gokhale, Member (Hydro), CEA; Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC; Shri R.K. Vishnoi, CMD, THDCIL; Shri Mohmmad Afzal, Joint Secretary (Hydro), MoP; Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), THDCIL, Sh. A. K. Dhinkar, Secretary, CBIP along with other senior officers of Power Sector in India were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.

    The event featured four focused panel discussions that covered critical themes, including the “Policy, Planning, and Regulatory Framework for Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs)”, “Geological, Civil, and Material Considerations in PSP Development”, “Environmental and Forest Clearance Framework- Challenges & Streamlining”, and “Implementation Challenges & Way Forward for PSPs in India”. These discussions provided valuable insights into the complexities and opportunities within each area, fostering a productive dialogue among policymakers, developers, technical experts, and environmental professionals.

    Shri Pankaj Agarwal, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India during his address, emphasized that ensuring grid stability is a matter of urgent national priority and every state must actively contribute to this effort. He further underlined the need for Sub-regions within states to become self-sufficient from a grid management perspective, with a strong focus on flexible generation and load shifting. He added that there is a need of brainstorming and policy dialogue to fast-track PSP development, with a focus on reviewing procedural delays and streamlining processes and platforms like these are vital for building consensus and enabling coordinated sectoral action.

    Shri Akash Tripathi, (IAS), Additional Secretary (Hydro), Ministry of Power, GoI in his address, highlighted that the genesis of this workshop lies in the need to bring together relevant stakeholders to collaborate on accelerating the development of Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs). He noted that the workshop aims to foster brainstorming and exchange of key policy perspectives on how to fast-track PSP implementation

    Shri M.G. Gokhale, Member (Hydro), CEA highlighted the vast potential of Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) in India, emphasizing their critical role in achieving the country’s Net Zero targets through reliable energy storage. He noted that, around 3 GW of PSP capacity is expected to be added in 2025-26, including the commissioning of the 1000 MW Tehri PSP in the coming months.

    Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC stressed the urgent need for large-scale deployment of Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs), stating that the energy transition cannot succeed without robust storage solutions. Given the intermittent nature of renewables, he emphasized the need of storage capabilities for a stable shift to renewable energy and reliable grid management.

    Shri R.K. Vishnoi, CMD, THDCIL welcomed the imminent dignitaries and emphasized that the workshop is aimed at deliberating on the development of Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs). He noted that the focus will be on identifying roadblocks and exploring ways to ensure faster and more efficient execution of projects on the ground. Sh. Vishnoi also addressed the scope of automation in various aspects of operations and how it can ensure seamless operations, and enhance efficiency.

    Sh. A. K. Dhinkar, Secretary, CBIP delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the eminent panellist for their participation and contributions. He highlighted the importance of accelerating the development of Pumped Storage Projects as a key player in building a resilient and sustainable future.

    The first panel discussion was focused on the topic “Policy, Planning & Regulatory Framework for PSPs,” moderated by Shri Mohammad Afzal, Joint Secretary (Hydro), Ministry of Power. The panel included Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical), who deliberated on the developer’s perspective on PSP development under the current policy regime.

    Today, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) of the day clocked 184 as per the daily AQI Bulletin provided by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). In view of significant improvement in the daily average AQI of Delhi and also considering the meteorological/ weather forecasts by IITM/ IMD, the Sub-Committee on Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) of the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) met today to review the current air quality scenario in the region and accordingly take an appropriate decision on the actions under Stage-I of GRAP in place in the entire National Capital Region (NCR) since 02.04.2025. While comprehensively reviewing the overall air quality parameters of Delhi-NCR and other aspects, the Sub-Committee observed as under:

    • Owing to strong winds and favourable meteorological conditions, the AQI of Delhi has shown improvement and has been recorded as 184 for 01.05.2025 (in ‘Moderate’ category). Further, the forecast by IMD/ IITM also predicts AQI to remain in ‘Moderate’ category in coming days.

    Therefore, keeping in view this trend of improvement in the AQI of Delhi and also the forecasts by IMD/ IITM indicating the average air quality of Delhi to stay in ‘Moderate’ category in the coming days (for which forecast is available), the CAQM Sub-Committee on GRAP unanimously decided to revoke Stage-I of the extant schedule of GRAP in the entire NCR, with immediate effect.

    All the agencies of the concerned State Govts./ GNCTD in the NCR, in an effort to sustain the better AQI levels as being experienced currently and not to let the air quality slip to the ‘Poor’ category, however need to ensure that all statutory directions, advisories, orders etc. issued by the Commission are followed and implemented in right earnest, including the rules/ regulations/ guidelines issued by MoEF&CC and the Central Pollution Control Board and related instructions/ guidelines issued by the respective State Govts./ GNCTD and Pollution Control Boards/ DPCC, across all contributing sectors.

    In this context, all the agencies concerned are also required to take note of various actions and the targeted timelines as envisaged in the comprehensive policy issued by the Commission to curb air pollution in the NCR and take appropriate actions accordingly in the field, particularly the dust mitigation measures for C&D activities and Roads/Open areas, which becomes a pre-dominant factor in the coming months determining the air quality in Delhi-NCR.

    The Sub-Committee, shall be keeping a close watch on the air quality scenario and review the situation from time to time for further appropriate decision depending upon the air quality in Delhi and forecast made by IMD/ IITM.

    US Secretary of Defense Mr Pete Hegseth, on May 01, 2025, called Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh to express his sympathies and condolences for the tragic loss of innocent civilian lives in the recent dastardly attack by terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. During the conversation, Raksha Mantri told the US Secretary of Defense that Pakistan has a history of supporting, training and funding terrorist organisations. 

    “Pakistan has been exposed as a rogue state, fuelling global terrorism, and destabilising the region. The world can no longer turn a blind eye to terrorism,” Raksha Mantri said. He added that it is important for the global community to explicitly and unequivocally condemn & call out such heinous acts of terrorism. 

    The US Secretary of Defense reiterated full support of the US government in India’s fight against terrorism. US stands in solidarity with India and supports India’s right to defend itself, he said.

    Actor and filmmaker Shah Rukh Khan has expressed his gratitude on behalf of the film industry to the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for conceptualizing and bringing together the WAVE Summit that has the potential to further strengthen the entertainment industry. He mentioned how relevant this platform is for the industry and that it will provide much-needed synergy and support from the government on various fronts.

    Speaking about the immense possibility India holds as a film-shooting destination, Khan shared how India could be the next destination for international filmmakers to ‘Shoot in India.’ Further, he emphasized on how various forms of agreements with international film bodies and industries could go a long way in shaping and strengthening India’s entertainment industry.

    Khan also stressed upon making the Indian cinema more affordable for the viewers of tier-2 and tier-3 cities. He ideated on bringing single-screen cinema experience to these cities which would help films to reach a larger audience.

    Actor Deepika Padukone also shared the view in terms of importance of WAVES and called it a timely intervention bringing together various mediums of media and entertainment industry. She said the various verticals of the sector were so far working in silos with less convergence while WAVES has a wider scope and has possibilities of weaving together films, OTT, Animation, AI, and other immersive technologies.

    While speaking on the sidelines of the Day-1 of WAVE Summit, actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone had an immersive interaction with filmmaker Karan Johar in a jampacked session named ‘The Journey: From Outsider to Ruler.’ They contemplated on their journey in the film industry and on how they carved out a niche for themselves. Shah Rukh Khan shared his views on the ‘outsider-insider’ tags and called the youth to treat the film industry as any other profession where hard work and perseverance has no substitute.

    Talking of the changing dynamics of the entertainment industry in the time of social media and image management, Khan suggested the newcomers to focus on their skills rather than merely focusing on their image. Padukone added that the time is to distinguish oneself through their unique strengths and abilities.

    In his concluding remarks, filmmaker Karan Johar called India a soft power which is poised to take the next leap with WAVES in the years to come.

    The holy city of Nashik, renowned for its spiritual heritage and as the site of the revered Mahakumbh, is all set to host a grand celebration—Yoga Mahotsav 2025— on 2nd May to mark the 50-day countdown to the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY). The event is being organised by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), under the aegis of the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. 

    The Mahotsav will begin with a mass demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM on May 2, 2025, at Gauri Maidan, Ramkund Parisar, Panchavati, in the gracious presence of Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav along with several dignitaries, Yoga practitioners, and citizens from all walks of life.

    As Nashik prepares for the upcoming Mahakumbh 2027, hosting this milestone event imbues the countdown to IDY 2025 with spiritual resonance, echoing the energy of a city where wellness, tradition, and sacredness converge.

    Since the United Nations adopted June 21st as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, at the behest of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India has led a global movement promoting the timeless wisdom of Yoga. Over the past decade, the Ministry of Ayush has successfully coordinated ten editions of IDY, engaging millions of people worldwide and showcasing Yoga as a powerful tool for unity, health, and harmony.

    Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, urged the citizens of Nasik to participate in the event and said, that “Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s initiative led to the United Nations declaring June 21st as the International Day of Yoga in 2014. This global recognition of Yoga stands as a testament to India’s rich cultural heritage and is a matter of immense national pride. IDY symbolizes global unity, wellness, and harmony, with annual Mass Yoga Demonstrations led by the Prime Minister.     Union Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary presided over the 69th Foundation Day of Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in New Delhi, today.

    Also present on the dais were Shri S.V. Raju, Additional Solicitor General; Shri Rahul Navin, Director, ED; Shri Subhash Aggarwal and Shri Prashant Kumar, Special Directors, ED; and Shri Naval Kishore Ram, Joint Secretary, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.

    The 69th Foundation Day celebrations were also attended by ex-Directors of ED; heads of various investigative agencies; international delegates from various organisations; all India officers of JD and above level; senior officials of Government of India; and also from Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.

    In his address on the occasion, Shri Chaudhary said, “The vision of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is that no economic offender should be able to deprive the common and poor citizens of their rights, and prevention is essential for this as well as ensuring that the offender receives appropriate punishment. The role of the Enforcement Directorate is extremely important in both areas.”

    Shri Chaudhary also stated that as India is marching towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the nature of the economy and economic activities will also change, and complexities will also increase, which might result in evolution of the nature of economic crimes. The Minister emphasised on the critical role the Enforcement Directorate will play in the future.

    “The vision of a developed India inherently includes the vision of a secure India. The contribution of the Enforcement Directorate will be extremely important in an economically secure India,” the Minister added.

    In his address on the occasion, Shri Navin emphasised on the significant step-up in enforcement activity from 2014 to 2024, with 5,113 new PMLA investigations were initiated averaging more than 500 cases per year. Building on this momentum, Shri Navin noted that in the Financial Year 2024-25, 775 new PMLA investigations were launched, 333 Prosecution Complaints were filed, leading to 34 individual convictions.

    During this period, Shri Navin said that ED has issued 461 provisional attachment orders valued at Rs. 30,036 crore – a 44% increase in the number of attachments and a striking 141% rise in their total value compared to the previous year. As on 31st March, 2025, the total value of assets under provisional attachment stood at Rs. 1,54,594 crore.

    Shri Navin also apprised the gathering that with the approval of the courts, restitution of Rs. 15,261 crore was done in 30 cases during F.Y. 2024-25 and this process is likely to accelerate in FY2025-26. 

    “The ED has filed 333 prosecution complaints last year, taking the total cases under various stage of trial to 1,739 as on 31st March, 2025; and of the 47 cases decided so far, there have been only 3 acquittals, yielding a commendable conviction rate of 93.6%,” Shri Navin added.

    In his address on the occasion, Shri S.V. Raju highlighted the growing use of cryptocurrency and hawala traders as tools for Money Laundering (ML) and urged the ED officers to stay abreast of the changing ML scenarios and elaborated on the tools under PMLA.

    On the occasion, Shri Chaudhary also released the Annual Report for FY 2024-25.

    The Competition Commission of India has approved the proposed combination involving (i) acquisition of 40% shareholding of HCCH by Jubilant Beverages Limited (JBL) and (ii) proposed subscription to CCPS in JBL by Jubilant BevCo Limited and the Investors.

    Jubilant Beverages Limited (JBL) and Jubilant BevCo Limited (BevCo) are newly incorporated entities that have recently commenced the business of trading of ready to cook-eat food items on purchase order basis. JBL and BevCo belong to the Jubilant Bhartia Group. The Jubilant Bhartia Group is present in diverse sectors in India such as pharmaceuticals, contract research and development services, proprietary novel drugs, life science ingredients, agri products etc.

    WSSS Investments Aggregator 1 Pte. Ltd. (Investor 1) and WSSS Investments Aggregator 2 Pte. Ltd. (Investor 2) are collectively referred to as ‘Investors’. The Investors are companies incorporated in Singapore and are owned by funds managed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, L.P. (GSAM), an investment manager. GSAM is indirectly wholly owned by Goldman Sachs Group, Inc (USA) (GS).     Hindustan Coca-Cola Holdings Private Limited (HCCH/ Target) is a holding company having no independent activities in India and belongs to The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC) group.  Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Private Limited (HCCB) is a subsidiary of the Target. HCCB is engaged in the preparing, packaging, supply and distribution of a variety of Coca-Cola beverages in India. It is also engaged in the preparation and distribution of beverages under the ‘Monster’ brand owned by Monster Inc.

    The proposed combination relates to inter alia: (i) JBL’s proposed acquisition of 40% of the shareholding of HCCH from Hindustan Coca-Cola Overseas Holdings Pte. Ltd., and Bharat Coca-Cola Overseas Holdings Pte. Ltd.; and (ii) BevCo’s and the Investors’ proposed subscription to compulsorily convertible preference shares (CCPS) in JBL. [step (i) and (ii) together comprise the Proposed Combination].

    The Competition Commission of India has approved the proposed combination involving acquisition in HealthCare Global Enterprises Limited by KKR through Hector Asia Holdings and KIA EBT II Scheme.

    Hector Asia Holdings II Pte. Ltd. (Hector) is private company incorporated in Singapore. It is an indirectly wholly-owned by investment funds, vehicles and / or accounts advised and managed by various subsidiaries of KKR and Co. Inc (“KKR & Co.” and together with its subsidiaries, “KKR”).

    KIA EBT II Scheme 1, an employee benefit scheme of KIA EBT Trust II (EBT) is an employee benefit scheme of KIA EBT Trust II, a trust settled under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882. Its beneficiaries are employees of KKR.

    HealthCare Global Enterprises Limited (Target) is a publicly listed company. It is active in the business of (a) operating multi-specialty hospitals at Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Hubli and comprehensive cancer care centres; (b) providing cancer care services, diagnosis and treatment; (c) operating day care clinics, fertility centres, radiology and PET-CT facilities; (d) providing reproductive medicine services; and (e) conducting life sciences, academic research and clinical testing, and diagnostics providing precision medicine solutions.

    Hector along with EBT propose to acquire up to 54% of the diluted voting share capital of the Target from Aceso Company Pte. Ltd. in two tranches. Pursuant to the SEBI (Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers) Regulations, 2011, a mandatory tender offer in India will be triggered, requiring Hector to make an open offer to the public shareholders of the Target for acquisition of up to 26% of the expanded voting share capital of the Target. Depending on tendering of shares in the open offer, the Acquirers are expected to hold an eventual stake of between 54% of the expanded voting share capital to 77% of the expanded voting share capital of the Target (Proposed Combination)

    Union Minister Lauds Indian Pair’s Achievement; Says Standing on the Podium with the Tricolour is a Proud Moment for the Nation

    Olympians Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty received the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award from Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi today. The ace badminton pair, who reached the No. 1 rank in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings in 2023 and clinched the Asian Games gold medal in Hangzhou, were shortlisted for the Khel Ratna award in 2023. However, they were unable to receive it due to tournament commitments at the time.

    Praising the current World No. 11 duo, the Dr. Mandaviya said: “Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna is the highest sporting honour of the country. Satwik and Chirag, both of you, have brought honour to the country by winning medals in international competitions through extraordinary skills and sheer hard work. When you stand on the podium along with the Tricolour to receive the prestigious medals, it not only an honour for you but for the entire nation. For raising the pride of the country and for enhancing the honour of the Tricolour, both of you have been honoured by the Khel Ratna.”

    Expressing his joy on receiving the Khel Ratna, Chirag Shetty said that the honour was long due. “Finally, we received it today. It was long due. It was announced in 2023. So, we are very happy to get the Khel Ratna from our honourable Sports Minister. The support from the Government of India has been tremendous since the time me and Satwik were paired together. All our big wins – whether becoming the World No. 1, winning Asian Games gold or clinching the Thomas Cup title – a lot of credit goes to the Indian government for their continuous support.”

    Echoing the sentiments, Satwik said: “We couldn’t go to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to receive the Khel Ratna award last year. Finally, to get it now is a huge boost for our confidence as we are going off-track and not playing for the next few months. It motivates us to get back and do well in the upcoming tournaments. The government is playing a huge role as the youngsters today are being supported through a lot many schemes and initiatives – Khelo India, Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) etc. Intially, when I and Chirag started playing we struggled financially. Later, government came to our support and there was no looking back.”

    The Indian pair finished on the podium twice – at the Malaysia Open and India Open in New Delhi – this January to begin their season on a decent note. However, niggles and minor injuries have pegged them back. Their next assignment is the Singapore Open (May 27 – June 1) and Indonesia Open (June 3-8).

    The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, has announced the admission schedule for the Craft Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) enrolment for the academic session 2025-26.

    Aspirants, who possess an NTC (National Trade Certificate), NAC (National Apprenticeship Certificate), Diploma, or Degree qualification, or are appearing for the final year qualifying examinations (NTC/NAC/Diploma/Degree) can apply online at the official website— www.nimionlineadmission.in — between 8th May 2025 and 28th May 2025. Admissions will be based on the All-India Common Entrance Test (AICET), which will be conducted in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across multiple centers nationwide. The examination is scheduled for 15th June 2025.

    The selected candidates will be offered training across 41 trades — comprising 28 engineering trades and 13 non-engineering trades — at National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) and Institutes for Training of Trainers (IToTs) across India. Under CITS, 45,025 trainers have been trained in the last five years, between 2019 and 2024.

    The Craft Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) is designed to train instructor trainees comprehensively, covering both technical skills and training methodologies. The program ensures that instructors are well-versed in techniques for effectively transferring hands-on skills, with the aim of producing skilled manpower for the industry. The National Council for Vocational Education & Training (NCVET), as an imperative, deems it suitable that all trainers in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are CITS-certified.

    WAVES Breakout Session: “Remembering Manoj Kumar: Ace Filmmaker, True Nationalist” Concludes with Emotion, Insight, and Cinematic Legacy

    The cinematic waves at WAVES 2025 reached a heartfelt crescendo as the session “Remembering Manoj Kumar: Ace Filmmaker, True Nationalist” paid tribute to one of Indian cinema’s most iconic and patriotic voices. Moderated by noted film critic and podcaster Mayank Shekhar, the session brought together leading voices from the film and literary worlds to reflect on the legacy of the legendary actor, writer, and filmmaker.

    Born Harikishan Giri Goswami in 1937, Manoj Kumar’s life was as dramatic and inspiring as his films. Uprooted by partition, he came to Bombay with dreams but no film connections. A self-made storyteller who initially wrote scripts in Urdu, Kumar crafted a distinct cinematic voice — blending mainstream appeal with a deep sense of nationalism and social conscience.

    Kunal Goswami, actor and son of Manoj Kumar, opened the session with intimate memories: “My father lost everything during Partition, but never lost his vision. From living in refugee camps to scripting iconic stories in Urdu, his journey is a testimony of resilience. He brought Bhagat Singh’s mother to the premiere of ‘Shaheed’— that’s how personal his patriotism was. He created blockbusters that were also deeply nationalistic — a rare feat.”

    Madhur Bhandarkar, National Award-winning director of acclaimed movies such as Page 3, Chandni bar and Fashion remembered in awe Manoj Kumar’s cinematic techniques remarking that the way he shot songs was incredible. Bhandarkar added that Manoj Kumar’s films were layered with nationalism and social realism, something he has tried to echo in his own work. “Chandni Bar was in many ways a subconscious tribute to Manoj Kumar’s ethos.” said Bhandarkar.

    Dr. Raajeev Shrivastav, senior author and lyricist, shared an awe-inspiring tale:

    “At the screening of ‘Shaheed’ in Delhi attended by the then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, the Prime minister asked Manoj Kumar to create a movie based on his slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan.’ Inspired by this, Manoj Kumar wrote the story for Upkaar on the overnight train journey back to Mumbai. Manoj Kumar’s life was a cinematic mission to speak to the common man. In this way his spirit mirrors the essence of WAVES itself.”

    Bharti S. Pradhan, veteran columnist and biographer, offered a poignant reflection:

    “Despite his massive success, he was incredibly approachable.  Even while unwell, he was dreaming of his next film. That was his spirit — always looking forward.”

    A Legacy That Lives On

    Known affectionately as Bharat Kumar, Manoj Kumar was the recipient of numerous accolades including the Padma Shri and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. His films — Shaheed, Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Upkaar, Kranti — were not just cinematic landmarks but cultural milestones. The session concluded with thumping applause from the audience and a collective sense of gratitude for a man who made patriotism poetic, and storytelling sublime.
