    Special Campaign 4.0 has been launched by Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) for institutionalising Swachhata and minimising pendency in Government offices from 2nd October to 31st October, 2024. The preparatory phase of SCDPM 4.0 from 16.09.2024 to 30.09.2024 is being implemented in Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) along with its two CPSUs i.e. Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) & Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI) and three Autonomous Institutes i.e. National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) & Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio Energy (SSS-NIBE).

    The Special Campaign 3.0 was also successfully implemented in the Ministry and PSUs/Institutions under the Ministry. The Ministry achieved 100% targets in following categories during Special Campaign 3.0:

    1. Public Grievances.
    2. Public Grievance Appeals
    3. Physical files review
    4. E-files review
    5. Number of cleanliness campaigns

    The following activities will be undertaken by the Ministry and PSUs/Institutions under the Ministry during Preparatory phase from 16.09.2024 to 30.09.2024:

    1. Pendency will be identified on various parameters during the preparatory phase.
    2. Exercise of the record management, categorization, recording, review and weeding out of physical records, as per extant guidelines contained in the CSMOP and Public Record Act, 1993 will be done.
    3. Overall cleanliness of Government office (s) will be maintained for which Campaign (s) will be conducted.
    4. A training Session on CSMoP provisions on Record Management (Chapter 10) will be conducted on 26th September, 2024 at 11:30 AM in the Conference Room No. 319 at Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan, New Delhi.

    The Implementation Phase will start from 2nd October, 2024 during which efforts will be made to achieve the given targets identified in Preparatory Phase for Special Campaign 4.0

     In the said drawing competition, more than 60 children participated.

    Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024 (SHS, 2024) campaign being spearheaded by the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation and the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, is being observed from 17th September to 1st October with the Theme of ‘Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata’ and thereafter Swachh Bharat Diwas will be celebrated on the 2nd October, 2024.

    GeM celebrates 100 days of governance; announces drastic reduction in its transaction charges

    Orders above ₹10 Crore to pay flat fee of ₹3 Lakh, a massive reduction from previous transaction charges capped at ₹72.5 Lakh

    Aligning with the Government’s ongoing commitment to foster ease of doing business and build a more inclusive economy, Government e Marketplace (GeM) has recently announced a significant reduction in the transaction charges levied on Sellers / Service Providers transacting on its platform. This bold move was part of Govt’s 100 days initiative.  Accordingly, GeM has announced a New Revenue Policy of the portal which was given effect to from 9th August 2024.

    As per this Policy:

    All orders valued up to ₹10 Lakh will now attract zero transaction charges, as opposed to the earlier order value ceiling of ₹5 Lakh.

    Orders above ₹10 Lakh up to ₹10 Crore will be levied transaction charges worth 0.30% of total order value, as compared to earlier transaction charges of 0.45%.

    Orders above ₹10 Crore will now pay a flat fee of ₹3 Lakh, a massive reduction from the transaction charges previously capped at ₹72.5 Lakh.

    Nearly 97% of the transactions on GeM will be attracting zero transaction charges, while the remaining will incur a nominal fee @0.30% of order value above ₹10 Lakh subject to a maximum of ₹3 Lakh only, irrespective of the size of the order. This step is a watershed moment in terms of Ease of Doing Business on GeM and is also in line with Government’s commitment of reduction in cost of transactions. In a single stroke, GeM has reduced its transaction fee by almost 33% to 96% which is expected to greatly benefit GeM Sellers/ service providers to become more competitive.

    The latest transaction fee structure is aimed at democratizing access to public procurement ecosystem. It aims to particularly benefit MSEs, which often face challenges navigating cumbersome financial and operational barriers. By considerably lowering transaction charges, GeM aims to level the playing field, thereby creating opportunities for small-scale businesses to deliver value and innovation in public procurement.

    FY 2024-25 is also a watershed moment for Services sector wherein services sector leapfrogged at a very rapid pace surpassing Product GMV by a good margin. Service GMV of Rs. 1.39 Lakh crore as on 31st August 2024 is accounting for approximately 65% of the total Merchandise Value of ₹2.15 Lakh Crore for the same period. Several high value service bids have been awarded on the platform.

    This surge in services procurement is supported by a large inventory of 325+ service categories on the platform. Coupled with its user-friendly interface, GeM has made it easier for government buyers to evaluate, select and engage service providers on the basis of their tailored needs. The platform’s transparent e-bidding processes ensure fair competition, while ensuring that government buyers find the right partner for their specific requirements.

    Ministry of Coal conducted a plantation drive at Millennium Park under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative today. This event is a part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, aimed at promoting a clean and green environment.

    Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Shri V.L. Kantha Rao led the plantation drive and planted a sapling, with senior officers and staff present at the event. The active participation of the Coal Ministry officials reflected their collective dedication to environmental preservation. This involvement reaffirms the Ministry’s commitment to integrating sustainable practices into its mining operations and highlights the importance of such initiatives in supporting the nation’s clean and green mission.

    As a part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visionary “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, inaugurated the Vriksharopan Abhiyan 2024 from Bharat Coking Coal Limited, Dhanbad, on 25.07.2024. On the day of the inauguration, Coal /Lignite PSUs have collectively planted and  distributed over 1 million saplings. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Coal, these PSUs have continued their efforts, planting more than 3.3 million saplings across 1,388 hectares of land in and around mining areas as on 31.08.2024 during FY 2024-25.

    In addition to increasing coal production to meet India’s energy needs, Coal and Lignite PSUs have demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. Over the past five years, they have planted 24 million saplings across 10,942 hectares of land in coal mining regions, playing a key role in combating climate change, reducing carbon footprints, and fostering a healthier environment for future generations.

    Ministry of Coal is consistently promoting sustainable development through various initiatives, including land reclamation and developing eco-parks. Today’s plantation drive marks another significant step toward achieving a healthier and cleaner environment, thereby, furthering the vision of a Swachh Bharat.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: DRDO Transfers High-Altitude Sustenance Technologies to Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd

    The Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), a leading laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) handed over critical high-altitude sustenance technologies to the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) during an orientation workshop on September 21, 2024, at PGCIL’s regional headquarters in Jammu. This workshop was organised to prepare employees for high-altitude operations as part of the 5000 MW Pang-Kaithal High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Project in Ladakh.

    The Pang-Kaithal HVDC Project, located at an altitude of 15,760 feet, is a significant step towards energy security in the region of Ladakh and the wider integration of solar power into India’s national grid. The technologies transferred by DIPAS will support PGCIL in the high-altitude sustenance of its workforce during the project.

    Earlier, DRDO signed a MoU with PGCIL to provide technical knowledge on high-altitude induction and sustenance. DIPAS, known for its pioneering work in high-altitude research, has previously formulated acclimatisation protocols for the Indian Army in the Himalayan region. The laboratory has developed a range of solutions for high-altitude conditions, including nutritional ration scales, protective clothing, non-conventional energy-based shelters, and cold-injury prevention creams.

    Director of DIPAS Dr. Rajeev Varshney chaired the induction program, alongside, Chief General Manager Shri Amit Sharma (i/c) of the Pang-Kaithal HVDC Project, PGCIL. Senior scientists from DRDO and officials from PGCIL were present at the workshop.

    Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, Dr. Samir V Kamat congratulated the DIPAS team for their collaboration with PGCIL on this project of national importance.

    The second edition of the bi-annual Naval Commanders’ Conference 2024 was conducted from 17 – 20 Sep 2024 at Nausena Bhawan, New Delhi. The Conference focused on contemporary security paradigms, and critical analysis to further enhance the combat capability of the Navy and synergise operations with the other Services. It was also meant to delve into the dynamics of the geostrategic situation of the region in the backdrop of international developments and through intense discussions by the senior hierarchy of the Navy, formulate a future roadmap to consolidate as a First Responder and Preferred Security Partner in the Indian Ocean Region and its steadfast commitment and contributions to the national vision of Aatmanirbharta.

    The maiden Conference at the new Nausena Bhawan, New Delhi, commenced with the inaugural address by Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, highlighting the Conference as the single most important apex-level forum of the Indian Navy to discuss, ideate, and find solutions towards ensuring that the Navy remains a Combat Ready, Credible, Cohesive & Future Ready Force. CNS highlighted the flux in the contemporary geo-strategic environment together with emerging disruptive technologies and evolving tactics in the maritime domain. Enumerating the key focus areas for the IN in the short, medium, and long term, CNS reiterated the need to ensure combat readiness of all naval platforms, equipment, weapons, and sensors underpinned by the singular focus on Ordnance Delivery on Target. CNS also impressed upon the need to maintain vigil towards ensuring maritime security & coastal defence, through close liaison, synergy, and functional linkages with the Coast Guard and other maritime agencies. CNS urged the Commands and Staff at Naval Headquarters to continue evolving as a well-balanced multi-dimensional seamlessly networked force ready to respond, protect, and promote our national maritime interests – Anytime, Anywhere, Anyhow!

    Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh addressed and interacted with the Naval Commanders on 19 Sep 24. The RM acknowledged Indian Navy’s efforts in maintaining maritime security in IOR and appreciated the key role played by the Indian Navy in protecting the critical commodities transiting through the Gulf of Aden. He shared his thoughts on a multitude of operational and strategic issues with the Naval Commanders, exhorting them to maintain high operational preparedness and readiness to tackle emerging maritime challenges. He also impressed upon the need for enhancing jointness with other Services.

    RM also attended a Tech Demo, organised as part of the event. Various agencies, including Indian Navy’s premier R&D organisation Weapons & Electronics Systems Engineering Establishment (WESEE) showcased indigenous solutions, including Autonomous Systems, domain awareness, software defined radios and other niche tech initiatives. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane and other senior civil & military officials were present on the occasion.

    The CDS, the COAS and the CAS also interacted with the Naval Commanders during the Conference sharing their assessments of the operational environment, and outlining readiness levels to defend national interests. They also highlighted areas of convergence amongst three Services vis-à-vis the prevailing operational environment, to enable further integration of the Armed Forces to collectively meet India’s national security challenges and imperatives.

    The Conference included a review of major operational, materiel, infrastructure, logistics and human resource related initiatives, and discussions on contemporary and emerging maritime security challenges and mitigating strategies.

    The Government has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, PVSM, AVSM, presently serving as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, as the next Chief of the Air Staff, in the rank of Air Chief Marshal, with effect from the afternoon of September 30, 2024. The present Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC demits office on September 30, 2024.

    Born on October 27, 1964, Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh was commissioned into the fighter pilot stream of the Indian Air Force in December 1984. During his long and distinguished service spanning nearly 40 years, he has served in a variety of Command, Staff, Instructional and Foreign appointments.

    An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College and National Defence College, the Air Officer is a Qualified Flying Instructor and an Experimental Test Pilot with more than 5,000 hours of flying experience on a variety of fixed and rotary wing aircraft.

    During his career, the officer has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base. As a test pilot, he led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team at Moscow, Russia. He was also the Project Director (Flight Test) at National Flight Test Centre and was tasked with flight testing of the Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas. He has held important staff appointments of Air Defence Commander at South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command. Prior to assuming the charge of Vice Chief of the Air Staff, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Air Command.

    DTVSV Scheme provides for lesser settlement amounts for a ‘new appellant’ in comparison to an ‘old appellant’

    In pursuance of the announcement in Union Budget 2024-25 by Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has notified the Direct Tax Vivad Se Vishwas Scheme, 2024 (referred as DTVSV, 2024) to resolve pending appeals in the case of income tax disputes. The said Scheme shall come into force with effect from 1st Oct. 2024.

    The DTVSV Scheme, 2024 was enacted vide Finance (No. 2) Act, 2024.  Further, the Rules and Forms for enabling the Scheme have also been notified vide Notification No. 104/2024 in G.S.R 584(E) dated 20.09.2024.

    The DTVSV Scheme provides for lesser settlement amounts for a ‘new appellant’ in comparison to an ‘old appellant’. The DTVSV Scheme also provides for lesser settlement amounts for taxpayers who file declaration on or before 31.12.2024 in comparison to those who file thereafter.

    Four separate Forms have been notified for the purposes of the DTVSV Scheme. These are as under:

    1. Form-1: Form for filing declaration and Undertaking by the declarant
    2. Form-2: Form for Certificate to be issued by Designated Authority
    3. Form-3: Form for Intimation of payment by the declarant
    4. Form-4: Order for Full and Final Settlement of tax arrears by Designated Authority

    The DTVSV Scheme also provides that Form-1 shall be filed separately for each dispute provided that where appellant and the income-tax authority, both have filed an appeal in respect of the same order, single Form-1 shall be filed in such a case.

    The intimation of payment is to be made in Form-3 and is to be furnished to the Designated Authority alongwith proof of withdrawal of appeal, objection, application, writ petition, special leave petition, or claim.

    Forms 1 and 3 shall be furnished electronically by the declarant. These Forms will be made available on the e-filing portal of Income Tax Department i.e. www.incometax.gov.in.

    For detailed provisions of the DTVSV Scheme, 2024, section 88 to section 99 of the Finance (No. 2) Act, 2024 may be referred to alongwith Direct Tax Vivad Se Vishwas Rules, 2024.      

    This is another initiative by the Government towards litigation management.

    The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), in collaboration with the Institute for What Works to Advance Gender Equality (IWWAGE) successfully hosted the National Conclave on Gender Mainstreaming in New Delhi yesterday. The conclave focused on strengthening gender-responsive community institutions and discussed strategies for advancing gender integration within the DAY-NRLM framework.

     

    Secretary, Rural Development Shri Shailesh Kumar Singh emphasized that government engagement in the rural economy aims to transform lives and livelihoods through socio-economic inclusion and empowerment. He highlighted that DAY-NRLM has adopted a ‘whole-of-government approach’ through inter-ministerial collaboration. Now, we need to sharpen our gender strategy by learning from voices on the ground and experts.

    Former Secretary, Government of India Shri Nagendra Nath Sinha that DAY-NRLM provides a unique opportunity to empower women by addressing structural inequalities and strengthening women’s collectives, voice, and agency. He emphasized that critical self-awareness is essential to understand the unequal division of labor, the burden of unpaid care work, and the lack of rights and entitlements for women. He called for customized, context-specific solutions tailored to the unique challenges of each SHG across the country and recommended establishing immersion sites for experiential learning and strengthening partnerships with civil society organizations.

    Additional Secretary, Rural Development Shri Charanjit Singh mentioned that capacity building is a continuous process. He called for enhancing the capabilities of SHGs, Village Organizations (VOs), Cluster Level Federations (CLFs) and Social Action Committees (SACs) to perform their mandates. He stressed the need for improved legal and psychological support for SHG members, suggesting collaboration with the Department of Justice to disseminate knowledge about available legal remedies for women.

    The event had four panel discussions on topics including gender-responsive community institutions, convergence pathways, integrating gender into program design, and alliance and advocacy. Participants included officials from the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, SRLMs, SHG members, gender experts and civil society partners.

    Key discussions focused on barriers to women’s empowerment, including unpaid work, the gendered division of labor, wage gaps, and lack of ownership in agriculture. The Nayi Chetna initiative, a global advocacy program now in its third year, was highlighted for addressing these issues through collective action. A key point raised was the need for comprehensive gender training for all NRLM mission staff, panchayat representatives and institutional stakeholders to address these challenges more effectively.

    It was also noted that gender is a cross-cutting issue that needs to be integrated into all areas, including livelihoods and institutional mechanisms. Discussions emphasized the importance of engaging men, boys, and youth to challenge traditional gender norms and create inclusive spaces. The role of SHGs in fostering gender equality within households and promoting women’s leadership in farming and local enterprises was also celebrated.

    The conclave concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen institutional mechanisms, expand collaborative efforts and develop a robust strategy for gender mainstreaming not only within NRLM but beyond, ensuring rural women across India are empowered to lead fulfilling and violence-free lives.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD) participated in the 8th India Water Week 2024 exhibition which held from 17th to 20th September 2024 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, as a partner department.

    The DAHD exhibition showcased the concept of “Water Footprint in the Livestock Sector” and it’s  impact in the production of livestock and poultry in the Indian Scenario. The flagship schemes and programs implementing by the department  and its achievements were also exhibited in the DAHD stall.

    The DAHD’s exhibition aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

    The Ministry of Jal Shakti was the lead Ministry who organized the  India Water Week-2024 from 17-20 September 2024. The event served  as a global platform to elicit ideas and opinions from global level decision-makers, politicians, researchers, experts, planners, innovators, students and stakeholders in the field of water resources from across the world, focusing on “Partnerships and Cooperation for Inclusive Water Development and Management”.

    Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh inaugurated the two-day National Symposium of CLFMA of India in Goa yesterday. CLFMA of India Chairman, Shri Suresh Deora, Animal Husbandry Commissioner at the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Dr. Abhijit Mitra and former Joint Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri O.P. Choudhary were also present in the event.

    In his address, Shri Rajiv Ranjan highlighted the Central Government’s significant efforts to promote domestic solutions in animal husbandry and reduce reliance on imports. He also mentioned several schemes aimed at organizing the unorganized dairy sector and addressing the shortage of feed and fodder. Praising CLFMA’s initiatives, he expressed hope that such discussions would aid the government in policy-making.

    Shri Suresh Deora emphasized the importance of the livestock sector in the Indian economy, noting that it provides employment for farmers and those involved in animal husbandry. The industry has an annual turnover of ₹12 lakh crore, and global demand for high-quality livestock products like eggs, meat, milk and cheese continues to rise.

    Dr. Abhijit Mitra stressed the need for better coordination and collaboration between the government, industry and research institutes to benefit India’s livestock sector. At the event, CLFMA of India honoured Shri O.P. Choudhary with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

    Towards celebrating its 92nd anniversary, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to host an immaculate air show in the skies over Tamil Nadu, on 6th October 2024. This year’s event is based on theme “Bhartiya Vayu Sena – Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar” (Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant), highlighting the lAF’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s airspace.

    The people of Chennai will witness a thrilling spectacle on the day, with 72 aircraft from the lAF displaying mesmerizing aerobatic manoeuvres and synchronized formation flying. The event will take place at the iconic Marina Beach, starting at
    11 AM. The last such spectacle was carried out over Sangam area in Prayagraj on 08 October 23, which drew lakhs of spectators. Similar response is anticipated this time.

    The air show will feature performances by the lAF’s elite teams Akash Ganga, renowned for their skydiving prowess, the Suryakiran Aerobatic Team, famed for their close formation aerobatics, and the Sarang Helicopter Display Team, known for their stunning aerial choreography.

    In addition to these acclaimed teams, lAF will be showcasing flypast and aerial displays by a wide range of aircraft from its inventory, including the nation’s pride, our own indigenously manufactured state of the art Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, Light Combat Helicopter Prachand and Heritage aircraft like Dakota & Harvard are also likely to take part.

    On 6th October 2024, the grand display at Marina Beach will be open to all. The event promises to be an unforgettable experience for the audience, showcasing not only India’s military aviation excellence, but also the strength and capabilities of lAF, and its role in protecting the nation’s skies.

    Special Campaign 4.0 was launched by Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) for minimizing pendency in Government offices. Special Campaign 4.0 is being implemented in two phases namely Preparatory Phase from 15th – 30th September 2024 and Main Phase from 2nd – 31st October 2024.

    For the Preparatory Phase, Video Conference Meeting held with all Nodal Officers of Sections/Divisions of this Department and of Subordinate / Attached Offices, PSU, Autonomous Bodies and Authorities under the administrative control of DA&FW. They have been asked to identify the pendency as per the parameters of DARPG’s guidelines. One PIB Note on preparatory phase have already been released by this Department.

    The Civil Service Bureau’s volunteer team today assisted the Society for the Deaf in organising games for “Hong Kong Sign Language Day 2024” at a shopping mall in Tai Wai. Visitors were given the chance to learn sign language and play games aimed at helping them to communicate with the hearing-impaired.

     

    At an opening ceremony for the event, Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung highlighted that this year is the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), a joyous occasion for Chinese people, and that there are fewer than 10 days to go to until National Day.

     

    She said that the bureau had co-ordinated various initiatives for the Civil Service Volunteer Service to celebrate the anniversary, explaining that 75 volunteer teams from various bureaus and departments are staging volunteer activities to mark the occasion.

     

    “About 4,500 volunteers from the 75 teams will organise and participate in various activities from September to November to share the joy of the National Day with the public, foster a sense of patriotism in the community, and provide care for the needy,” she said.

     

    In addition to festive events, the activities will include visits and guided tours, care visits, classes, handicraft workshops and sports activities. Mrs Yeung said that around 34,000 people will be involved in the events, including seniors, children and youngsters, grassroots families, people with disabilities and ethnic minorities.

     

    Today’s event featured display boards introducing sign language related to China, with designs incorporating different Chinese elements.

     

    Volunteers and sign-language teachers gave sign-language lessons for visitors, introducing National Day-related words through simple games. The civil service chief joined bureau volunteers in learning sign-language phrases such as “75th anniversary”, “panda” and “Hong Kong, China”.

    Today, I am embarking on a three day visit to the United States of America to participate in the Quad Summit being hosted by President Biden in his hometown Wilmington and to address the Summit of the Future at the UN General Assembly in New York.

    I look forward joining my colleagues President Biden, Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Kishida for the Quad Summit. The forum has emerged as a key group of the like-minded countries to work for peace, progress and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

    My meeting with President Biden will allow us to review and identify new pathways to further deepen India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for the benefit of our people and the global good.

    I am eagerly looking forward to engaging with the Indian diaspora and important American business leaders, who are the key stakeholders and provide vibrancy to the unique partnership between the largest and the oldest democracies of the world.

    The Summit of the Future is an opportunity for the global community to chart the road ahead for the betterment of humanity. I will share views of the one sixth of the humanity as their stakes in a peaceful and secure future are among the highest in the world.

    The Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas of the Republic of India, H.E. Mr. Hardeep S Puri, paid an official visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil from September 19th– 21ston the invitation of the Minister of Mines & Energy of the Federative Republic of Brazil, H.E. Mr. Alexandre Silveira. H.E. Hardeep Puri was accompanied by Indian Oil & Gas Companies representing both the upstream and downstream sector.

    During the visit, the sides reviewed the existing collaboration in the energy sector including Indian upstream investment, mutually beneficial relationship in bilateral trade and cooperation in sustainable fuels, particularly biofuels.

    In the oil & gas sector, the sides recognised the trust reposed by Indian companies in the Oil & gas sector which has resulted in Brazil being one of the largest destinations for investments by Indian Oil & Gas companies in the world.  The sides also reaffirmed their commitment to identify new possible mechanism for increasing the  presence of Indian companies in the country, including through new investment opportunities in producing assets. The sides, while recognising the complementarities in the trade sector, committed to identifying ways of enhancing the trade between the two countries, including through innovative mechanisms.

    As founding members of the Global Biofuels Alliance, both sides reiterated the crucial role the Alliance will play in positioning biofuels as a key component of the global energy transition, contributing not only to environmental sustainability but also to socioeconomic growth.

    The Indian side congratulated the Brazilian side on the hosting of the G20 and welcomed the emphasis being placed on sustainable fuels and social dimensions of energy transition.  The Indian side expressed confidence that Brazil’s leadership would further the G20’s agenda of inclusive and sustainable development, building on the momentum generated by India’s presidency in 2023.

    The sides looked forward to co-hosting an India-Brazil Clean Cooking Ministerial Meeting on the sidelines of India Energy Week 2025 in February 2025, which would provide an opportunity to explore collaborative pathways for enhancing clean cooking access globally.

    Both sides discussed collaboration in the domain of deep and ultradeep explorations in the Indian offshore Acreages.

    The two sides also initiated a discussion on cooperation in the area of critical minerals and their value chains.

    Joint Statement on Biofuels and Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)

    The sides noted that India and Brazil, as two leading biofuel producers, are well-positioned to collaborate on production and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) , by leveraging their existing ethanol and biodiesel production infrastructure, growing aviation market and vast feedstock potential, including their agricultural resources.

    In the context of SAF, the sides noted that currently SAF remains the major mature and viable pathway to decarbonise the aviation sector. At the same time, SAF only accounts for 0.3% of the current fuel use for aviation.

    The sides reaffirmed that the goal of net zero in the aviation sector would require joint and collaborative action between the two countries to resolve some of the major hurdles to SAF production, namely, feedstock-related challenges, high cost of SAF compared to other technologies, infrastructure for large-scale production and efficient waste management systems, low maturity of production pathways, etc.

    The sides highlighted the importance of the establishment of consistent international standards, such as the sustainability criteria defined within the scope of Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA/ICAO) and reinforced the principle of technological neutrality with regards to the different technological pathways and raw materials used in the sustainable production of aviation fuels.

    The sides recognised the role an India-Brazil partnership in SAF can play in the deployment and development of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Sector through  leveraging and catalysing of regional value chains to ramp up SAF production, trading, distribution and certification, which inter-alia will support the enhancement of availability, affordability and reliability of SAF.

    The sides noted that the modes for such cooperation could include the following:

    1. Leverage Ethanol Production from all sources;
    2. Promote technology exchange, joint research, and development initiatives, in order to optimize SAF production processes;
    3. Share regulatory and policy experience, with a view to create frameworks that encourage investment in SAF production;
    4. Cooperate in RD&I with a view to enhance the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of production pathways;
    5. Collaborate in multilateral forums, such as ICAO, in order to promote the development of SAF.

    The sides acknowledged that collaboration between the two countries represents a strategic partnership in line with the sustainable development and carbon reduction goals of both countries.  By combining resources, expertise, and technology, India and Brazil can lead the global transition towards lower emission aviation. This collaboration will not only address pressing environmental challenges but also open new avenues for economic and technological advancement in the biofuels sector.

    The sides therefore reaffirmed their desire to strengthen cooperation between the two countries to usher in various advantages, which include economic growth, by creating jobs in the rural sector and fostering innovation in renewable energy technologies and energy security, by reducing reliance on imports. Importantly, bilateral cooperation in SAF production will contribute to global efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of aviation.

    The ministers underscored that this comprehensive partnership represents a significant milestone in India-Brazil relations aligning with their shared sustainable development goals. By combining their resources, expertise, and technology, India and Brazil will not only lead the global transition towards lower emission aviation but also provide critical support to other Global Biofuels Alliance members in their decarbonization efforts, ultimately paving the way for a future with cleaner skies.

    Highlights of 2023-24 (Third Advance Estimates)      

    • The horticulture production in the country in 2023-24 (Third Advance Estimates) is estimated to be about 353.19 Million Tonnes, decrease of about 22.94 Lakh Tonnes (0.65%) over 2022-23 (Final Estimates).
    • Increase in production of Fruits, Honey, Flowers, Plantation Crops, Spices and Aromatics & Medicinal Plants is seen over 2023-24 (Final Estimates).
    • Production of Fruits in 2023-24  is expected to increase by 2.29 % over 2022-23 i.e to 112.73 Million Tonne, mainly due to increases in production of mango, banana, lime/lemon, grapes, custard apple and other fruits. On the other hand, production of apple, sweet orange, mandarin, guava, litchi, pomegranate, pineapple are expected to decrease as compared to 2022-23.
    • Production of Vegetables is envisaged to be around 205.80 Million Tonnes. Increase is expected in production of tomato, cabbage, cauliflower, tapioca, bottle gourd, pumpkin, carrot, cucumber, bitter gourd, parwal and okra, whereas, decrease in production is envisaged in potato, onion, brinjal, elephant foot yam, capsicum, and other vegetables.
    • Production of Onion is expected to be at 242.44 Lakh Tonne in 2023-24 (Third Advance Estimates) .
    • Potato production in the country is expected to around 570.49 Lakh Tonne in 2023-24 (Third Advance Estimates) that is, mainly due  to decrease in production reported in Bihar and West Bengal.
    • Production of Tomato is expected to be 213.20 Lakh Tonne in 2023-24 (Third Advance Estimates) compared to around 204.25 Lakh Tonne last year, an increase by 4.38.

    Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth will chair the Joint State Representatives and Additional/Deputy Directors General (JS R&A/D) Conference of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) on September 23, 2024 in New Delhi. The biennial event will see the participation of Deputy CM and Minister of Higher Education from Rajsthan, Education Ministers from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Karnataka, Kerala and Uttarakhand, Minister of Youth & Sports from Goa, Minister of Primary, Secondary and Adult Higher Education from Gujarat as well as representatives from all other States. Senior Officers from the Ministry of Defence, along with DGNCC, the NCC Heads from all States and Officers from HQ DGNCC, will also be in attendance.

    During the conference, delegates will engage in discussions to refine policies, address financial requirements and enhance coordination among stakeholders to establish new training and camping infrastructure. These are crucial issues for enhancing cadet motivation and ensuring the effective execution of training programs. A major focus of discussion will also be the implementation of the recently approved expansion plan which aims to increase NCC cadet strength by three lakhs, raising the total strength from 17 lakhs to 20 lakhs in the coming years.

    The conduct of NCC activities is a shared responsibility between the Central and State Governments with regard to policies, finances and administration. Accordingly, this conference serves as important platform for planning, implementing, and coordinating NCC activities nationwide. This conference aims to be a crucial step in enhancing collaboration between state and central governments, ensuring a bright future for cadets across the country.

     CEA Advances Indigenous Energy Storage Solutions for Tomorrow’s Grid, Meeting Future Needs

    In a landmark step towards realizing India’s renewable energy goals, Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is making significant strides in addressing the growing need for large-scale energy storage in the nation’s power grid.

    In line with its commitment to ensuring a sustainable energy future, CEA has achieved another major milestone by concurring two more Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) in Maharashtra viz. 1500 MW Bhavali PSP being developed by JSW Energy Ltd. and 1000 MW Bhivpuri PSP being developed by Tata Power Co. Ltd.

    These PSPs are concurred with the support of the Central Water Commission (CWC), Geological Survey of India (GSI), and Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) and were concurred within 10 days of completion of the DPRs i.e. the date on which the complete DPRs were submitted on the ONLINE portal by the developers.

    The project developers of these PSPs have indicated that they will fast track the commissioning and complete them in 44 to 46 months i.e. by 2028. These PSPs will collectively provide a storage capacity of more than 15 GWh (Gigawatt hours). This large-scale energy storage is crucial for meeting the peak demand during non-solar hour in addition to inertia to the grid, leading to grid stability. It will help in faster renewable energy integration, and supporting the transition to a greener energy system.

    CEA targets to concur atleast two PSPs each month during the current year depending upon the completion of the DPRs by the developers. During 2024-25, CEA has targeted to concur 15 Hydro PSPs of 25,500 MW capacity, out of this 4 PSPs of 5,100 MW capacity have already been concurred. 

    Under ease of doing business, CEA has developed an ONLINE portal “Jalvi-store” which will bring more transparency in processing of the chapters at pre DPR stage of PSPs. Further, some chapters have been done away with for expeditious concurrence of the DPRs. The check list is also incorporated in guidelines of PSPs which gives clarity on the information needed for respective chapters. GSI and CWC have made multiple teams for faster clearances of design chapters of PSPs. 

    The approval of these projects, spearheaded by private developers, underscores the growing role of the private sector in driving India’s energy transition. This marks a shift towards a collaborative energy ecosystem where public and private sectors converge to achieve national goals. This partnership will accelerate progress towards India’s renewable energy targets. CEA is confident that these projects will play a pivotal role in enhancing the reliability and sustainability of India’s electricity grid, paving the way for a robust and resilient energy future.

    Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment (SJE), Dr. Virendra Kumar will be the Chief Guest for the  Sign Language Day-2024 celebrations tomorrow, at Bhim Hall, Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath, New Delhi. MoS (SJE), Shri B.L.Verma, will be the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

    The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC), New Delhi, under the aegis of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) [DEPwD], Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, will be organising the event.

    The theme of this year Sign Language Day-2024 is ‘Sign up for Sign Language Rights’.  The world will once again highlight the unity generated by sign languages. World leaders and other government officials are invited to strive towards a better implementation of the Rights of Person with Disabilities at the national level through the linguistic human rights of deaf people; And, to Sign up for sign language rights by working with our local and national associations to announce the achievement of a concrete goal for deaf communities on Sign Language day.

    During the event, the following Indian Sign Language (ISL) terms and Videos will be launched:

    1. Launch of 2500 terms in Indian Sign Language: To expand the existing ISL dictionary, ISLRTC has collaborated with 4 organizations working in the field and jointly developed the 2500 terms in Indian Sign Language. The organizations are YUNIKEE, Hyderabad for 1000 terms, India Signing Hands, Mumbai for 500 terms, Bridge Connectivity Solutions, Delhi for 500 terms and Anuprayaas, Mohali for 500 terms. The 2500 terms covers the various school subjects such as mathematics, science, language, geography and higher education areas such as philosophy, linguistics, computer science, etc., and sports, infrastructure, accessibility, etc.
    2. Launch of 100 concept videos in ISL: ISLRTC in collaboration with YUNIKEE developed 100 concept videos in Indian Sign Language for Hearing Impaired children of class 6th, covering various school subjects such as mathematics, science, social science and language. The special features of concepts videos are detailed explanation in ISL to develop concept clarity, graphical images to promote learning, Audio and subtitles to promote inclusive learning and illustration and examples to improve learning outcomes and academic achievements.
    3. Launch of ISL dictionary in 10 languages: To promote accessibility, the ISL dictionary will be made available in 10 Regional Languages.
    4. Launch of Educational Animated Videos in ISL: To develop morals values and new learning experience among hearing impaired children and to promote inclusive learning environment.
    5. Launch of Deaf Role Model Videos in ISL: To create inspiration, motivation, sense of purpose, moral values and guidance among hearing impaired children.
    6. The Centre conducted 7th Indian Sign Language Competition, 2024 – a national-level competition held for students with hearing disabilities. The students have showcased their creativity and knowledge by participating in the competition. All the winners of the 7th ISL competition will be distributed trophy and certificate during the Sign Language Day 2024 programme.

    The ISLRTC celebrates the occasion every year ever since the United Nations declared 23rd September as the International Day of Sign Languages. DEPwD and ISLRTC are making all the possible efforts to bring more citizens, stakeholders, service-providing agencies, schools for deaf, NGOs, activists, deaf leaders, educators, researchers etc. together into the fold of Sign Language Day, in order to create positive awareness about ISL among all sections of our society.

    The Day also reminds us of the need and importance of preserving sign languages as a part of linguistic and cultural diversity. All the professionals, parents of deaf, deaf students and institutions working in the field of Indian Sign Language, deaf education and differently-abled people from all walks of life are important target groups to rope into the Sign Language Day celebration.

    Dignitaries gracing the occasion would include Shri Rajesh Aggrawal, Secretary, DEPwD; Dr. Sharanjeet Kaur, Chairperson, RCI; Shri Rajeev Sharma, Joint Secretary, DEPwD; and, Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Director, ISLRTC.     ‘World Food India 2024’, organized by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, concluded today. The 3rd edition of this mega food event, held from 19thto 22ndSeptember 2024 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, was inaugurated jointly by Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and New & Renewable Energy, Shri Chirag Paswan, Minister of Food Processing Industries & Shri Ravneet Singh Bittu, Minister of State, Food Processing Industries & Railways.

    On this occasion, food processing units at 67 locations under PLISFPI and PMKSY schemes with total investments of Rs 5,135 crores were inaugurated, Credit linked support was provided to 25,000 beneficiaries for micro projects worth Rs 2,351 crores under PMFME scheme and Rs 245 crores seed capital sanctioned to 70,000 SHG members under PMFME scheme. Senior government dignitaries, global investors, global food regulators, and industry leaders from around the world participated in the event. The event marked the achievement of the 100 days action plan of the Government.

    The Mega Food Event was supported by nine Ministries/Departments of the Government of India, 8 associated bodies, and 26 states. The event featured a remarkable turnout of 1557 exhibitors, 20 country pavilions, and notable participation from 809 buyers from 108 countries and 2390 foreign delegates. 13 State Ministers and 4 Central Ministers graced World Food India 2024.

    Spanning an expansive area of 70,000 square meters across nine exhibition halls, the event provided a comprehensive platform for showcasing the latest advancements in the food processing industry. The event exhibited over 100 One District One Product items. 16 international delegations, including six Ministerial delegations participated in the event. Japan participated as the Partner Country while Iran & Vietnam participated as the Focus Countries.

    A CEO Roundtable was held on the inaugural day of World Food India 2024. It was co-chaired by Union Minister for Ministry of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal and Union Minister for Ministry of Food Processing Industries Shri Chirag Paswan. The roundtable was also graced by the presence of Minister of State for Food Processing & Railways, Shri Ravneet Singh Bittu, Shri TG Bharath, Minister of Industries and Commerce, Andhra Pradesh and Shri Raghavji Patel, Minister of Agriculture, Gujarat and senior officials from various Ministries of Government of India and State Governments. This significant gathering brought together more than 100 CXOs representing the leading Indian and global companies in the food processing and allied sectors. Key deliberations during the Roundtable encompassed facilitation of ease of doing business, misleading advertisements, GST related issues, sourcing interests, and a comprehensive examination of the existing gaps within the value chain of the Indian Food Processing Sector.

    During the event, Shri Chirag Paswan participated in six G2G meetings. The four-day event comprised 40 sessions, featuring Thematic, State, Allied Ministries, and Country & Organization sessions. Notably, 13 Thematic Sessions delved into crucial subjects such as zero waste, maximum value, sustainable packaging, irradiation, food safety etc in the food processing and allied sectors. Moreover, 8 State-focused panel discussions and 10 specialized sessions by Allied ministries, including DPIIT and APEDA, addressed pertinent industry challenges. The sessions were graced by Ministers from Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, amongst others.

    To capitalize innovation, a Startup Grand Challenge was held to promote innovation in waste management, efficient water uses and novel food processing technologies. The winners of the challenge were awarded during the event. The Ministry will provide financial as well as incubation support through NIFTEM-Kundli to the winners.

    A Global Food Regulators Summit 2024 by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) was organized in conjunction with World Food India from 20th – 21st  September 2024. It brought together delegates from over 70 countries, including Food safety regulators and those from Risk Assessment Authorities, Research Institutes and Universities who discussed and strategized on key regulatory issues.

    Among the event’s highlights was the Technology and Sustainability Pavilion, which spotlighted cutting-edge innovations in the food industry, signalling a shift toward more eco-friendly and resilient food production practices.

    Additionally, the Chef Competition at World Food India 2024 recognized chefs who blend tradition with innovation, showcasing global cuisine, presentation skills, and the use of technology in culinary techniques. The competition featured individual displays, live cooking, mixology, and a mystery basket challenge.

    The event also featured partnerships between NIFTEM- K with 11 companies, 3 Development partners and Associations and 4 Academic and Research organizations. These MoUs focused on successful execution of collaborative research programmes, new product development, establishment of Centres of Excellence, placement of students as well as incubation activities. NIFTEM-K also transferred 5 technologies to food companies and start-ups besides launching a pesticide detection kit for tea leaves.

    Over 656 aspirants/students of various coaching Institutes of UPSC Civil Services, IIT, medical entrance, CA and management courses claimed refund from Coaching Centres/Private institutions by registering their grievance on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH)

    In its commitment towards protecting consumer rights and ensuring transparency in the education sector, the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, through the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) has successfully intervened at a pre-litigation stage to ensure justice for students and aspirants who enrolled for the UPSC Civil Services, IIT and other entrance examinations.

    Following numerous complaints registered in the National Consumer Helpline regarding unfair practices by various coaching centres especially not refunding the enrolment fees of the students/ aspirants, NCH initiated a drive to resolve these grievances on a mission-mode to facilitate a total refund of 1 cr. to affected students from the total demanded refund of 2.39 Cr till date.

    This decisive action comes after the National Consumer Helpline received multiple grievances from students who had enrolled in UPSC Civil Services, IIT and other coaching programs but faced issues such as unfulfilled promises, inadequate teaching quality, and abrupt cancellations of courses. Data reveals that during a short span of 12 months i.e. 2023-2024 – 16,276 numbers of students reached out to NCH, once their requests were declined/ rejected/ not specifically redressed to their satisfaction by coaching centres. The analysis of data repository also revealed/highlighted an increasing trend in the numbers of dissatisfied students/consumers lodging complaints at NCH.

    The total numbers of grievances registered by the students in the year 2021-2022 are 4,815 followed by year 2022-2023 having 5,351 and 2023-2024 are 16,276. This increase reflects growing confidence and trust of students in NCH as an effective grievance redressal mechanism before opting to knock at the door of Consumer Commissions. In 2024, already 6980 students have reached out to NCH for speedy redressal of their grievances at a pre litigation stage.

    All these refunds were processed promptly at a pre-litigation stage after the intervention of the department to the affected students from all corners of the country who raised their grievances claiming their refunds against the coaching centres offering classes for “UPSC Civil Services”, “JEE advance”, medical entrance, CA exams and other courses. 

    One such success story relates to a student from Bengaluru who had taken a study loan of Rs 3.5 lacs to take admission in a management course offered by an institution from Lucknow. He was forced to opt out of the course on account of unreasonable delays in commencement of course. Even after multiple follow ups, the refund was not granted. Distressed by loan EMIs and inability to enrol anywhere else due to paucity of funds, he approached NCH and was granted refund on department’s intervention.

    Similarly, another success story belongs to a student from Bharuch, Gujarat who was granted a refund of 8.36 lacs paid for enrolment once NCH stepped in.

    All these students and aspirants registered their grievances at the National Consumer Helpline by calling toll-free “1915” helpline number or registering their grievances at the portal namely “www.consumerhelpline.gov.in”. The Department of Consumer Affairs launched the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) to disseminate information on issues pertaining to consumers and promote consumer welfare. Department extended this service with the launch of Integrated Consumer Grievance Redressal Mechanism (INGRAM) portal : a pre-litigation platform maintained and monitored by NCH for consumers to get their complaints and grievances addressed directly by the companies.

    It may be mentioned that CCPA took up class action against malpractices of misleading advertisements and unfair trade practices and has also penalized several Coaching Centres on several occasions. These initiatives reinforced DoCA’s commitment and contribution to empower our society by supporting students as a consumer class. 

    Smt. Nidhi Khare, Secretary of DoCA, stated, “We are dedicated to safeguarding the rights of consumers, especially students who invest their precious time and resources in pursuing their dreams. This action reaffirms our commitment to ensure that coaching institutions adhere to fair practices and honour the rights of consumers.”  and emphasized that coaching institutes must present facts truthfully and honestly by clearly and prominently disclosing important information so that consumers can not only notice it easily but also take more informed choice. She underscored the significance of consumer rights and the responsibility of advertisers to ensure they provide accurate information.

    Furthermore, this initiative of DoCA is a key-step to strengthen the pre-litigation platform for prompt redressal of grievances across the sectors in alignment with the letter and spirit of the recommendations of NITI Aayog given in its report “Designing the Future of Dispute Resolution: The ODR Policy Plan for India dated October 2021” which acknowledges and reiterates the significance of pre-litigation mechanisms by stating that-

     “Mandatory pre-litigation/ ODR cases involving e-commerce claims, small cause claims and cheque-bouncing issues can be resolved before they reach the courts system. This is extremely critical for Indian judiciary, which has a burgeoning case-load”

    It is pertinent to state that the National Consumer Helpline is already undertaking resolution of consumer grievances through pre-litigation measures in an impactful and effective manner. Moreover, the department has directed coaching centres to adopt a more student centric approach and ensure transparency in course offerings and assured quality standards in the sector. This proactive stance not only supports affected students but also sets a precedent for improved practices within the education sector, ensuring that coaching institutions prioritize transparency and accountability in their operations.

Today’s office inauguration comes after India’s Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced setting up of an Invest India office in Singapore during his visit to the country on September 4th and 5th, 2024. The Singapore Office is Invest India’s first overseas office. This significant move reinforces India’s commitment to deepening investment partnerships and making it easier for global investors to engage with India. The Singapore office will serve as a dedicated point of contact for companies from the region looking to invest in India, fostering collaboration across sectors.

    Speaking at the event, Minister Goyal emphasised, “Singapore is a key strategic partner for India, and this office marks a new chapter in our efforts to strengthen economic cooperation with Singapore and the broader ASEAN region. We plan to open more overseas Invest India offices in the coming months with an aim to provide global investors seamless access to India’s dynamic and growing economy.”

    The Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, through its various subordinate offices, attached and autonomous offices observed day 5 of the Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign 2024, themed “Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata,” today.

    As a part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visionary “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, the Department of Consumer Affairs organised an event under “Swachhata Hi Sewa 2024” .  The main event was organized at the National Test House (NTH), Ghaziabad, on September 21, 2024, in association with NTH, Ghaziabad in which Ms. Nidhi Khare, the Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, led the plantation drive and planted a sapling. The senior officers and staff of the department and NTH actively participated in the drive, which included plantation, beautification, and trimming of bushes within the premises. The presence of officials highlighted the department’s commitment to environmental sustainability and beautification efforts. Participants enthusiastically demonstrating their dedication to the cause and contributing to a cleaner and greener environment in line with the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024. In this even, about 80 saplings were planted in NTH, Ghaziabad premises by the Department. Todays, the Department and its subordinate/autonomous/attached offices have collectively planted approximately 925 trees.

    The Vice-President, Shi JagdeepDhankhar today reflected on the profound influence of national leadership, stating “Although there is a lot in a name, the name ‘Nar’ plus ‘Indra’, ‘Narendra’, has made everything possible.”

    Commending the significant strides made in housing development, Shri Dhankhar stated that over 21,000 houses have been sanctioned and constructed in the region, under various government initiatives. He emphasized the remarkable transformation taking place in the country, attributing this progress to the leadership  “The specialty here is that whatever gets sanctioned becomes possible. Why is everything becoming possible in the country? It is because the person who is making it possible is leading the country,” he said.

    Acknowledging the profound changes witnessed in the last decade concerning the selection of recipients for some of the nation’s highest civilian honors, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and Bharat Ratna awards, Shri Dhakhar remarked  “A big change has come in the last 10 years. Now, the recipients of these prestigious awards are those who are truly deserving. People across the country now say that the awards are being given to the right individuals”. He further noted that this progress symbolizes India’s journey towards “Ram Rajya”. “This reflects that the country is changing and moving towards Ram Rajya,” he said.

    Highlighting India’s emergence as the center of the biggest change of this century, Shri Dhankhar stated, “Those who think big have made India the main center of the world. There is no other country like India. I am not the one saying this—major global institutions are acknowledging this transformation. A massive change, one that was previously unimaginable, is unfolding.”

    Emphasizing the transformative governance, Shri Dhankhar pointed to the unprecedented developments in infrastructure and essential services across the country. “Did you ever imagine that, with the help of the government, such a powerful voice would rise, that every household would have access to electricity, gas connections, and toilets? And now, the Prime Minister has even initiated the solar energy system,”he said.

    Recognizing the Government’s commitment to transforming lives through economic empowerment, he stated, “I request Prafullaji to organize a small camp here for Mudra loans. Once informed, people will realize the Government of India has a policy to empower them economically, enabling not only self-employment but also providing jobs to others.”

    Underscoring that education is the centre of the biggest change today, Shri Dhankharurged everyone to prioritize their children’s education. “Education is the centre of the biggest change today. I request all of you to pay a lot of attention to the education of your children,” he said.

    Emphasizing the holistic progress of Bharat across water, land, sky, and space, Shri Dhankhar urged citizens to reflect continuously on their contributions to the nation’s advancement, stating, “We are moving towards Ramrajya, and each of us can play a significant role in this journey.”

    The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) signed an MoU with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) of Brazil on the sidelines of Global Food Regulators Summit, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, yesterday. 

    The MoU starts a new phase of cooperation aimed at improving food safety through joint projects and technical collaboration. It was signed by Mr. Carlos Henrique Baqueta Fávaro, Agriculture and Livestock Minister, Brazil and counter signed by Shri G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, CEO of FSSAI.

    Shri G. Kamala Vardhana Rao said, “Signing this MoU demonstrates our dedication to food safety and signifies a major advancement in our ongoing efforts to enhance international collaboration in food safety.  We are eager to work with MAPA to achieve our common goals and enhance food safety in both countries.”

    The representative from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil added “The signing of the MoU marks a milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries in the field of food safety, allowing for technical cooperation and exchange of experience and knowledge with the aim of strengthening the institutional collaboration and pursuing joint initiatives.”

    Both FSSAI and MAPA are committed to fostering a mutually beneficial and productive partnership.

    Nagar Van to Feature Biodiversity Parks, Smriti Vans, Butterfly Conservatories, Herbal Gardens

    The activities proposed under Nagar Van Yojana during the first 100 days of the Government was to approve 100 Nagar Vans. With the collective effort of the Central and Sate/UT Governments, this target has been achieved and surpassed, with 111 Nagar Vans being sanctioned within the 100 days. These 111 Nagar Vans are spread across 6 States and 1 UT of the country.

    The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India had launched revised Nagar Van Yojana (NVY) in 2020 in an effort to enhance the urban greenery for improving the quality of life and increasing social cohesion in cities. These Nagar Vans will not only be vital environmental resources but also be a space for recreation, environment education, biodiversity conservation and a tool for adaptation towards climate change making the cities climate resilient.

    The scheme provides financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh per hectare for the creation and maintenance of these urban forests, encouraging the involvement of citizens, students, and other stakeholders in the creation and management of these green spaces. Nagar Van areas range from a minimum of 10 ha to 50 ha. The scheme covers all cities with Municipal Corporations, Municipalities and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). Emphasis is on biodiversity, Planting fruit-bearing, medicinal, and native species to attract wildlife and promote ecological balance. Community participation is central, with opportunities for public engagement through tree planting, educational programs, and sustainable management. Each Nagar Van must have at least two-thirds of its area under tree cover and will feature components like Biodiversity Parks, Smriti Vans, Butterfly Conservatories, and Herbal Gardens and now Matri Van created under Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam.

    Presently, the Nagar Van Yojana aims to develop 1000 Nagar Vans by the year 2027 with the financial support of National Fund of National Compensatory Afforestation Management and Planning Authority (National CAMPA). This initiative will help in protecting forest land within and around urban centers from degradation and encroachment and will also address environmental concerns such as air pollution, urban heat islands, the loss of biodiversity, degradation of habitat etc.

    Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, a special country wide Tree Plantation campaign has been launched by Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi on World Environment Day on 5th June 2024. Drawing a parallel between the nurturing of nature by Mother Earth and human lives by our mothers, Prime Minister extorted people across the world to plant a tree as a mark of love, respect and honour for their mother also take a pledge for protecting trees and mother earth.

    This initiative not only pays tribute to maternal figures but also instills a culture of tree planting among individuals and communities. The campaign emphasizes the dual purpose of environmental stewardship and personal gratitude, symbolizing the nurturing role of both trees and mothers in our lives. The campaign aims at involving everyone in halting and reversing land degradation, building draught resistance and preventing desertification. Under this mass tree plantation special campaign, it is targeted to plant 80 crore trees this year by September end and 140 crores by next year March end. Provision has been made on MeriLiFE portal for uploading details of plantation done by any individual or institution or organization private or government and tracking plantation efforts. More than 75 crore saplings have been planted by now under this campaign and detailed information has been uploaded on MeriLiFE portal.

    A Tree Plantation drive was organized on 17th of September, 2024 under Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam in newly approved Nagar Vans in various cities to create Matri Van. Through the active participation of citizens, government agencies, and private entities in the citizen driven special campaign “Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam”, the aim of transforming cities into eco-friendly spaces that promote sustainability and well-being is sought to be achieved.

    The Union Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and New & Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi along with Shri B.L Verma, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the team of senior officers of the Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs, inspected the Canteen and various offices of the Department of Food and Public Distribution on 20.09.2024. During his inspection, the Union Minister emphasized the need for maintaining cleanliness of the rooms, canteen and the common areas of the office premise.

    Sh. Rajender Kumar, Joint Secretary held a meeting with the officers of DFPD and its PSUs/attached/ subordinate officers on the same day to discuss the preparation for Special Campaign 4.0 and review the progress made so far under SHS-2024. He told all concern to take the necessary action in the time bound manner and update the data on the SCDPM and SHS portal regularly.

    The officers and officials of the Department enthusiastically participated in a Walkathon and plogging from Krishi Bhawan to Jantar Manter on 20.09.2024. On their way to Jantar Mantar, they picked up the garbage lying on the roads and pavements and disposed it off in the blue and green dustbins.

     

    A cleanliness drive was carried out by the staff of Indian Grain Storage Management & Research Institute Hapur along the roadside of Meerut Road near the staff colony.

     Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) distributed Sanitary Napkins at Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya & G.G.S.S School and  also organized a Slogan Writing Competition.

    Swachhata pledge was taken  at National Sugar Institute, Kanpur on 20.09.2024

     

     

    Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) organized a drawing competition as part of mass awareness campaign under the initiative of Swachhata Hi Sewa-2024 on 20.09.2024. The competition aimed to engage participants, particularly children, in promoting the importance of cleanliness and hygiene, fostering awareness about maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

    Various activities like cleaning of road side of district park by its Regional Office Mumbai and railway track cleaning by Regional Office, Nasik were also undertaken.

     

     

     

     

     

    Senior Officers and few employees of Food Corporation of India Headquarters visited the Swachhata Lakshit Ekayi (Cleanliness Target Unit) Site at Sikandra Lane and did inspection work with the NDMC workers at the selected Blackspot.

     

     

    Employees of FCI Food Storage Depot under Assam Region, FCI Regional Office, Ranchi and FCI Zonal Office (East)  Kolkata alongwith Safai Mitras  participated in the removal of Black Spot Garbage. Employees of FCI Regional office ,Gujarat organized a cleanliness drive inside/outside their office. Employee of Karnataka Region took a Swacchata pledge.  A medical health camp for staff and Safai worker was also organized to make participants  more aware of the health issues along with Swacchata. The employees also participated in a walkathon organized under Swacchata Hi Seva Campaign 2024.
