A meeting of heads of tourism administrations of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in the Chinese city of Qingdao, during which Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Dmitry Vakhrukov noted that direct air traffic between Russia and the SCO states exceeds 1,000 flights weekly.

“The number of direct flights increases every year. Today, the number of flights is already quite significant. Almost 1,000 flights a week between Russia and the SCO countries. At the same time, there is still potential for increasing the number of flights with other SCO countries and expanding the geography of flights between the cities of our countries,” Dmitry Vakhrukov said in his speech.

During the meeting, participants also discussed issues of promoting tourism potential, introducing an electronic visa and expanding air traffic.

According to the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia, in 2024, the volume of tourist flow between Russia and the SCO countries exceeded 11 million trips, which is 47% more than in 2023. Positive dynamics continue in the current year: in the first quarter of 2025, about 2 million trips were made, which is 28% higher than the same period last year.

“It is typical that the tourist flow is balanced: the number of Russians visiting the SCO countries is approximately equal to the number of tourists from these countries coming to Russia. The growth of tourist flow is largely due to the favorable visa regime. Most SCO countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, have visa-free agreements with Russia. The mechanism of visa-free group trips, which is already in effect with China and Iran, is developing successfully. In the future, a similar scheme may be launched with India. An additional convenience for foreign tourists is the possibility of obtaining a single electronic visa, available to citizens of 64 countries. It is expected that the positive dynamics of tourist exchange between Russia and the SCO countries will continue in the future,” Dmitry Vakhrukov emphasized.

During the meeting of the heads of tourism administrations of the SCO member states, flagship investment projects in the tourism industry, new trends in tourism development in the countries of the organization and prospects for cooperation, including on issues of promoting tourism potential and the use of digital technologies in the tourism sector, were also discussed.

Thus, to date, a catalog with more than 30 attractive tourist investment projects has been formed. The total portfolio of projects amounted to more than 15 billion US dollars. These are ski, sea, balneological and health resorts, sports and tourist complexes. Also, a catalog of tourist routes in Russia for foreign tourists Time to travel is already ready. It includes tours in 12 regions of the country. Excursions are conducted only by professional, accredited guides.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Regions of Russia and China signed 120 cooperation agreements

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Ministry of Economic Development (Russia) – Ministry of Economic Development (Russia) –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

China has been Russia’s leading trading partner for over 10 years. Despite global market fluctuations and sanctions pressure, bilateral cooperation continues to strengthen, showing significant positive results. This was stated by Dmitry Volvach, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia, during the plenary session of the fifth Russian-Chinese Forum on Interregional Cooperation, which was held as part of the ninth Russian-Chinese EXPO in parallel with the INNOPROM industrial exhibition in Yekaterinburg. In total, the Russian-Chinese portfolio includes more than 80 investment projects worth more than $200 billion.

According to the Federal Customs Service of Russia and the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, in 2024, trade turnover between the countries reached a historical maximum, increasing by 7.5%. In January-April 2025, these figures will remain the same. “On the instructions of the presidents of our countries, by 2030, our goal is to scale the volume of mutual trade to 300 billion dollars. In this regard, we are actively working to implement the Russian-Chinese Economic Cooperation Plan until 2030,” Dmitry Volvach emphasized.

In recent years, Russian-Chinese cooperation has reached a new level, thanks to the large-scale implementation of infrastructure projects, especially in the energy and transport and logistics sectors. Among the largest infrastructure projects of Russia and China, the Deputy Minister named the construction of two gas complexes in the village of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad Region, which will produce up to 144 million tons of liquefied natural gas by 2035. More than 120 cooperation agreements have been concluded between Russian regions and Chinese provinces. In 2024, 311 joint events were held, and in 2025 – already 96. A list of 86 joint projects worth $ 201 billion has been approved. Among the key ones are the creation of the Bely Rast terminal and logistics complex in the Moscow Region and the development of the Dry Port in the Sverdlovsk Region.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the great tourism potential of Russia and China. In the first quarter of 2025, the total tourist flow increased by 20%. To further increase it, the visa regime is being simplified: it is planned to increase the period of stay with an electronic visa from 16 to 30 days. Work is also underway to reduce the minimum composition of a tourist group from five to three people and increase the visa-free period from 15 to 21 days.

Russia is actively promoting tourism products under the Discover Russia brand, and the restoration of air traffic is contributing to the growth of passenger traffic. “We are confident that in the near future we will reach pre-pandemic indicators and reach new heights,” Dmitry Volvach emphasized.

The world’s first cross-border cable car between Khabarovsk and Heihe, which will open in 2026, will also be a significant infrastructure project. Zhang Hanhui, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Russia, in his welcoming address to the forum participants, noted: “In recent years, the mechanism of cooperation between the regions of Russia and China has been continuously improved. Recently, the fifth meeting of the Yangtze-Volga Regional Cooperation Council and the meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between Northeast China and the Russian Far East were successfully held in Russia. Exchanges between regional delegations of the two countries have become closer, and interaction between enterprises is developing according to the principle of “mutual striving to meet halfway.”

The forum was also attended by Deputy Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Vasily Kozlov, Vice Governor of Heilongjiang Province Han Shengjian, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan Oleg Korobchenko, Deputy Secretary General of the People’s Government of Liaoning Province Sun Wei, Deputy Governor of the Tomsk Region Vasily Potemkin, President of OPORA RUSSIA Alexander Kalinin and Vice President of Xuanyuan Corporation Jiao Jian.

“We expect that joint work within the Forum and other events of the EXPO business program will contribute to the accelerated development of interregional cooperation between Russia and China, because interregional cooperation is the basis for further development of mutual trade, entails mutual cooperation in the market of production, investment and tourism resources. Together, we continue to do one big thing – we strive to create all the necessary conditions for the formation of a fair and multipolar world order, strengthening stability and security,” Dmitry Volvach summed up.

Representatives of 35 Russian regions and over 300 Chinese companies took part in the forum. Businessmen and heads of government bodies from 18 Chinese provinces arrived in Russia.

The EXPO business program included discussions on issues of scientific and technical sphere, trade and investment, support of export and urban environment, development of medicine, as well as youth business cooperation. During the INNOPROM exhibition, a contact exchange on key areas of cooperation was held.

The INNOPROM exhibition was attended by delegations of business circles and government bodies from more than 50 countries. National expositions were presented by Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, China, India and others.

I am sure that your victories are only the beginning of a long scientific path,” Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov addressed the children.

The head of the Russian Ministry of Education addressed special words of gratitude to teachers and coaches – their professionalism and dedication to the cause allowed schoolchildren to win the highest awards. Separately, Sergey Kravtsov noted the high level of the international intellectual tournament.

This year, the following took part in the Olympiad:HTTPS: //ed.gov.ru/Press/10090/v-yugra-START-SUNNER-Scientific-FISIC-OLIMPIADA/) high school students from more than 20 countries, including teams from the CIS, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The tournament was held in a mixed format: 11 teams came to the capital of Yugra, and participants from 12 foreign countries solved the tasks remotely.

The Russian national team has won the highest award of the Olympiad – the ISPhO Grand Prix Cup – for the third year in a row. The tournament table is formed based on the sum of points of the participants of the national teams. The result of the Russian physicists was twice as high as the bronze medalists. In the individual standings, the Russian schoolchildren won three gold and two silver medals.

  • Trump unveils 25% tariffs on goods from Japan, South Korea in letters to leaders

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

President Donald Trump said on Monday the U.S. would impose a 25% tariff on imports from Japan and South Korea beginning Aug. 1 as he unveiled the first two of an expected 12 letters to trading partners outlining the new levies they face.

“If for any reason you decide to raise your Tariffs, then, whatever the number you choose to raise them by, will be added onto the 25% that we charge,” Trump said in letters to the leaders of the two Asian countries, which he posted on his Truth Social platform.

Later, Trump also announced the U.S. will impose 25% tariffs on Malaysia and Kazakhstan, 30% on South Africa and 40% on Laos and Myanmar.

The rate for South Korea is the same as Trump initially announced on April 2, while the rate for Japan is 1 point higher than first announced. A week later, he capped all of the so-called reciprocal tariffs at 10% until July 9 to allow for negotiations. Only two agreements have so far been reached, with Britain and Vietnam.

There was no immediate response from the Japanese or South Korean embassies on the announcement.

About12 countries will receive letters from Trump, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said at a briefing without identifying them. She said Trump would sign an executive order on Monday formally delaying the July 9 deadline to August 1.

“There will be additional letters in the coming days,” Leavitt said, adding that “we are close” on some deals.

The European Union will not be receiving a letter setting out higher tariffs, EU sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday.

U.S. stocks fell in response, the latest market ruction since Trump unleashed a global trade war on his return to office in January. His moves have repeatedly whipsawed financial markets and sent policymakers scrambling to protect their economies.

U.S. stocks were driven to near bear-market territory by his cascade of tariff announcements through the early spring but quickly rebounded to record highs in the weeks after he put the stiffest levies on hold on April 9.

The S&P 500 on Monday was down nearly 1%, its biggest drop in three weeks. U.S.-listed shares of Japanese automotive companies fell, with Toyota Motor down 4.1% at mid-afternoon trading and Honda Motor off by 3.8%. The dollar surged against both the Japanese yen and the South Korean won.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said earlier on Monday he expected several trade announcements to be made in the next 48 hours, adding that his inbox was full of last-ditch offers from countries to clinch a tariff deal by the deadline.

Bessent did not say which countries could get deals and what they might contain. Trump has kept much of the world guessing on the outcome of months of talks with countries hoping to avoid the hefty tariff hikes he has threatened.

Countries have scrambled to hammer out deals before the Wednesday deadline. South Korea and Indonesia dispatched representatives to Washington, while Thailand submitted a new trade proposal offering zero tariffs on many U.S. goods.

“We’ve had a lot of people change their tune in terms of negotiations. So my mailbox was full last night with a lot of new offers, a lot of new proposals,” Bessent said in an interview with CNBC. “So it’s going to be a busy couple of days.”

    BRICS THREAT

For its part, the European Union still aims to reach a trade deal by July 9 after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Trump had a “good exchange,” a Commission spokesperson said.

It was not clear, however, whether there had been a meaningful breakthrough in talks to stave off tariff hikes on the United States’ largest trading partner.

Adding to the pressure, Trump threatened to impose a 17% tariff on EU food and agriculture exports, it emerged last week.

Trump had said on Sunday the U.S. was close to finalizing several trade pacts and would notify other countries by July 9 of higher tariff rates. He said they would not take effect until Aug. 1, a three-week reprieve.

He also put members of the developing nations’ BRICS group in his sights as its leaders met in Brazil, threatening an additional 10% tariff on any BRICS countries aligning themselves with “anti-American” policies.

The new 10% tariff will be imposed on individual countries if they take anti-American policy actions, a source familiar with the matter said.

The BRICS group comprises Brazil, Russia, India and China and South Africa along with recent joiners Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

Trump’s comments hit the South African rand.

EU SEEKS EFFECTIVE APPROACH TO TRUMP

The EU has been torn over whether to push for a quick and light trade deal or back its own economic clout in trying to negotiate a better outcome. It had already dropped hopes for a comprehensive trade agreement before the July deadline.

“We want to reach a deal with the U.S. We want to avoid tariffs,” the spokesperson said at a daily briefing.

Without a preliminary agreement, broad U.S. tariffs on most imports would rise from their current 10% to the rates set out by Trump on April 2. In the EU’s case, that would be 20%.

Von der Leyen also held talks with the leaders of Germany, France and Italy at the weekend, Germany said. Chancellor Friedrich Merz has repeatedly stressed the need for a quick deal to protect industries vulnerable to tariffs ranging from cars to pharmaceuticals.

The German spokesperson said the parties should allow themselves “another 24 or 48 hours to come to a decision.”

Germany’s Mercedes-Benz MBGn.DEsaid on Monday its second-quarter unit sales of cars and vans had fallen 9%, blaming tariffs.

Russia said BRICS was “a group of countries that share common approaches and a common world view on how to cooperate, based on their own interests.”

“And this cooperation within BRICS has never been and will never be directed against any third countries,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Rosneft presented a new tourist route in the Voronezh region

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Rosneft and the Voronezh Tourist Information Centre (TIC) have presented a new tourist automobile route, Cave Temples, which will allow travellers to see the most picturesque places in the region.

Rosneft actively supports initiatives to develop domestic tourism and aims to create comfortable conditions for car travelers. Developing roadside service and improving the level of customer service provided at Rosneft filling stations is one of the Company’s priority areas of activity.

The presentation of the new route took place as part of the summer festival “Night in Divnogorye”, which took place on July 5 in the museum-reserve “Divnogorye”. Entertainment events and a quiz with memorable prizes were held for the guests. Coloring books “Mishutka’s Journey through the Voronezh Region” were also prepared for children.

The Cave Temples route starts in Voronezh and ends in Belogorye. Its total length one way is 286 km. The route passes through the infrastructure of Rosneft roadside services, where tourists can fill up their cars with high-quality fuel, rest and have a snack.

There are several cave temples in the Voronezh Region: these are passages cut into soft chalk rocks, historically used as religious buildings – underground churches and monasteries. Following the new route along the M4 “Don” highway from Voronezh to the south, travelers can visit all three cave temple complexes – in the Liski and Podgorensky districts.

There are two cave temples in the Divnogorye Reserve that are accessible to visitors. One of them, the icon of the Mother of God of Sicily in Bolshie Diva, is located directly on the territory of the museum-reserve. It is carved into the base of a chalk remnant-div, has two tiers connected by a staircase. You can visit the inside of the temple as part of excursions conducted by the staff of the museum-reserve. You can walk to the cave temple in honor of the feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist in Malye Diva in 30-40 minutes.

The second complex is located in the village of Kostomarovo in the Podgorensky district. Of particular interest is the Church of the Savior Not Made by Hands. It includes a labyrinth of cave corridors and has a throne, considered the most ancient, and an icon of the Mother of God “Blessed Heaven” revered by believers.

About 80 km to the south you can see the Voskresensky Belogorsky Monastery in Belogorye. The length of the caves of the Belogorsky Voskresensky Monastery is more than 2 km, they are the longest of the artificially laid passages in the mountains. The temple is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm. Guides work on site.

Rosneft and the Voronezh Region have a Memorandum of Cooperation in the Development of Domestic Tourism, signed in 2024 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The company, together with the region, has already presented four routes for car travel in Voronezh and the Voronezh Region in the following directions: North, South, West, East. The routes include popular tourist destinations located both in Voronezh itself and near federal highways.

    Reference:

Rosneft’s retail network is the largest in the country in terms of geographic coverage and number of stations. It includes almost 3,000 petrol stations in 62 regions of the Russian Federation, as well as in the Republic of Belarus, Abkhazia and Kyrgyzstan.

Guests of Rosneft filling stations have access to a wide range of goods and services: from shops and cafes to roadside services. For example, you can stay overnight in roadside hotels at filling stations and multifunctional complexes of the Company.

Rosneft is developing a new customer service area, “cafe on wheels” – food trucks. They are available at gas stations in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other regions where the retail chain is present.

In 2023, Rosneft launched a special information and service platform, Horizons of Russia: Come with Us! It allows you to plan a trip to interesting places through the infrastructure of roadside services and Rosneft gas stations in constructor mode. Currently, tourists have access to 14 developed routes, both regional and federal.

In the structure Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies (IMMT) NSU A new laboratory of molecular engineering has been created; it will become the first specialized laboratory beyond the Urals that will comprehensively deal with such promising areas of modern medicine as the cultivation of microorganism cells, the study of virome and metagenomic analysis, and the prediction of protein structure based on the analysis of the data obtained.

In early 2026, after the delivery of the new building of the NSU IMMT, which is part of the second stage of the NSU campus, built within the framework of the national project “Youth and Children”, the laboratory will be located on the premises of the new campus. The creation of the laboratory is part of the strategic project “Center for the Integration of Personalized Biomedicine, Pharmacy and Synchrotron, Binary Technologies”, financed within the framework of Priority 2030 programs.

Currently, the laboratory employs 5 people, including representatives of leading research centers in Novosibirsk and Tomsk. Also, students, postgraduates and graduate students of the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and other faculties of NSU will be involved in the work in the laboratory, who, as part of the preparation of their diploma and scientific papers, will participate in the implementation of the laboratory’s projects. The laboratory is headed by Elena Prokopyeva, PhD in Biology, research fellow at the IMMT NSU.

The laboratory is fully focused on solving applied problems facing the modern pharmaceutical industry and biomedicine. First of all, we are talking about the rapid implementation of new methods of pharmaceutical development, expansion of interdisciplinary research, integration of artificial intelligence and big data analysis in biology and medicine; as well as the formation of a modern educational environment for training new generation specialists, including students from different countries.

The main areas of work of the laboratory:

creation and improvement of biotechnological protocols for cultivating prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms in laboratory and industrial bioreactors; creation of innovative methods for identifying and quantitatively analyzing viral particles using accelerator mass spectrometry; study of the diversity, structure and dynamics of viral communities (virosphere) in various ecological niches using modern methods of metagenomics and bioinformatics.

    — One of the promising areas for the laboratory is the analysis of viromes (a set of viruses) using metagenomic and bioinformatics analysis in partnership with research institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This is an advanced area in science. Metagenomic analysis is based on next-generation sequencing methods, which can be used to “read” several sections of different genomes in different samples at the same time. However, today the problem is the analysis of billions of available sequences, the number of which increases exponentially every year. Thus, advanced technologies will speed up the process of identifying new viruses, even based on already available and published metagenomic data, — said Elena Prokopyeva.

The lab plans to use machine learning models to analyze biomedical data, such as genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data, as these methods can effectively identify complex patterns and relationships in large and multidimensional data sets. The use of machine learning in biomedical research opens up new opportunities for deep understanding of biological processes and improving clinical practice.

Another area of the laboratory’s work is education. By the end of 2025, an interactive educational web application will be finalized. HTTP: //histology. HSU.ru, which includes a collection of digital microscope slides on histology, embryology and cytology.

    — Thus, this project will create a comprehensive scientific and technical platform that will unite disparate areas (bioreactors, metagenomics, molecular diagnostics, digitalization of education and biomedical developments) into a single ecosystem, increase the efficiency of research and accelerate the introduction of innovations in industry and medicine, — Elena Prokopyeva emphasized.

The industrial and scientific partners of the laboratory are industry leaders — Technoprom LLC, research institutes of the SB RAS (G.I. Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS, G.K. Boreskov Institute of Catalysis SB RAS, Federal Research Center Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS), FBSI SRC VB Vector of Rospotrebnadzor, Federal Research Center for Fundamental and Translational Medicine (FRC FTM). The laboratory also cooperates with foreign partners, such as Qinghai University and East China Normal University (China), RSE Institute of Genetics and Physiology (Kazakhstan).

    Source: Government of India (4)

Leaders of the BRICS nations on Sunday welcomed Indonesia as a full member of the group, along with the inclusion of 10 countries — Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Malaysia, Thailand, Cuba, Vietnam, Uganda, and Uzbekistan — as partner countries.

In a joint declaration issued at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, the leaders said, “We welcome the Republic of Indonesia as a BRICS member, as well as the Republic of Belarus, the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Cuba, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Malaysia, the Kingdom of Thailand, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Republic of Uganda, and the Republic of Uzbekistan as BRICS partner countries.”

The declaration also highlighted key initiatives adopted during the summit, including the BRICS Leaders’ Framework Declaration on Climate Finance, the BRICS Leaders’ Statement on the Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence, and the launch of the BRICS Partnership for the Elimination of Socially Determined Diseases.

During the BRICS session on ‘Peace and Security and Reform of Global Governance,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that the expansion demonstrates BRICS’ ability to evolve with changing times. He called for urgent reforms in global institutions such as the United Nations Security Council, the World Trade Organisation (WTO), and Multilateral Development Banks.

“The expansion of BRICS and the inclusion of new partners reflect its ability to evolve with the times. Now, we must demonstrate the same determination to reform institutions like the UN Security Council, the WTO, and Multilateral Development Banks. In the age of AI, where technology evolves every week, it’s unacceptable for global institutions to go eighty years without reform. You can’t run 21st-century software on 20th-century typewriters,” the Prime Minister said.

BRICS was originally established as BRIC after the leaders of Russia, India, China, and Brazil met during the G8 Outreach Summit in 2006. The grouping formalised its cooperation with the first BRIC Summit in Russia in 2009. South Africa joined in 2010, expanding the group to BRICS.

A further expansion took place in 2024 with Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE becoming full members from January 1. Indonesia became a full member in January 2025, while Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan were inducted as BRICS partner countries.

  • BRICS expands footprint, eyes stronger Global South cooperation under Brazil’s 2025 chairship

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

The BRICS grouping, which brings together major emerging economies, has continued to expand its global footprint, adding new members and partners while outlining ambitious plans to deepen cooperation across sectors under Brazil’s ongoing chairship in 2025.

Originally coined as BRIC by Goldman Sachs in 2001 in its paper The World Needs Better Economic BRICs, the acronym referred to Brazil, Russia, India and China, which the firm projected would occupy larger shares of the global economy in the coming decades. The idea took formal shape in 2006, when the leaders of Russia, India and China met on the sidelines of the G8 Outreach Summit in St. Petersburg. That same year, the first BRIC Foreign Ministers’ meeting was held alongside the UN General Assembly in New York, setting the stage for structured dialogue.

The first BRIC Summit was hosted in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2009. The group became BRICS with the inclusion of South Africa in 2010. South Africa formally joined the third BRICS Summit held in Sanya in 2011.

More than a decade later, the bloc witnessed its most significant expansion yet. In January 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates became full members, followed by Indonesia’s entry as a full member in January 2025. Nine other countries — Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan — were inducted as BRICS partner countries this year, underlining the group’s growing influence in the Global South.

Together, the expanded BRICS now represents nearly half of the world’s population, contributes about 40 percent of global GDP, and accounts for roughly a quarter of global trade.

    Two pillars of cooperation

BRICS functions through two broad mechanisms: consultations on issues of common interest through summits and ministerial meetings, and practical cooperation through working groups and senior officials in sectors such as trade, finance, health, education, science and technology, agriculture, environment, energy, labour, disaster management, anti-corruption and counter-narcotics efforts.

Business linkages are promoted through the BRICS Business Council and the BRICS Women Business Alliance, while other exchanges span parliamentary forums, conferences and people-to-people initiatives.

    India’s 2021 chairship

India last held the chairship in 2021, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the bloc. Operating under the theme ‘BRICS@15: Intra-BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus’, India set priorities that focused on multilateral reform, counter-terrorism cooperation, digital tools for Sustainable Development Goals and wider people-to-people engagement.

Over 150 meetings were convened during India’s term, including the Leaders’ Summit held virtually on September 9, 2021, and meetings of Foreign Ministers, National Security Advisers and key sectoral ministers. Several new initiatives were launched, including the first BRICS Digital Health Summit, the first Water Ministers’ Meeting, the adoption of a Counter-Terrorism Action Plan, the launch of the BRICS Alliance for Green Tourism and the signing of an agreement on a BRICS Remote Sensing Satellite Constellation.

    Brazil takes charge in 2025

Brazil assumed the BRICS chairship on January 1, 2025, under the theme ‘Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance’. Brazil’s agenda focuses on deepening partnerships within the Global South and enhancing social, economic and environmental development across member states.

The priorities for Brazil’s presidency include cooperation on global health, trade, investment and finance, climate change action, governance of artificial intelligence, institutional development and a push for reform of the global peace and security architecture.

Nearly 120 events are planned under Brazil’s chairship this year, signalling the group’s intent to maintain momentum on issues that resonate with emerging economies.

VIENNA, July 6 (Xinhua) — OPEC countries announced on Saturday they will increase oil production by 548,000 barrels per day in August, a faster pace than in July.

In July, OPEC countries announced an increase in oil production by 411,000 barrels per day as part of a plan to gradually unwind the latest level of production cuts.

The decision was taken on Saturday during a virtual meeting where the countries involved, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman, reviewed global market conditions and prospects, the organization said in a statement on its website.

The adjustment was made taking into account “the stable global economic outlook and current healthy market fundamentals, as reflected in low oil inventory levels,” the statement said, adding that the gradual ramp-up could be suspended or reversed depending on changing market conditions.

The 2.2 million bpd production cut, originally announced in November 2023, was implemented in the first quarter of 2024. Since then, the cut has been extended several times, until the first quarter of 2025. –0–

Alexander Novak took part in the meeting of the OPEC Group of Eight countries

Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Novak took part as a co-chair in a meeting of the Group of Eight participating countries that adopted additional voluntary adjustments to oil production in April and November 2023.

The Group of Eight includes Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the UAE, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman.

The parties discussed the state and prospects of the global oil market. Taking into account the stable prospects of the global economy and current market indicators reflected in low oil inventories, they agreed to make an adjustment to production by 548 thousand barrels per day in August 2025. The gradual increase can be suspended or cancelled depending on changing market conditions. Such flexibility will allow the group to continue to maintain stability in the oil market. The eight OPEC countries also noted that this measure will allow participating countries to speed up the compensation of volumes.

The pilot zone, which is considered the only special medical service zone in China, hosts more than 30 leading domestic and foreign medical institutions. With special policy support, the pilot zone has introduced 485 advanced drugs and medical devices that have been approved abroad but have not yet entered the domestic market, benefiting more than 130,000 patients.

Canadian figure skating coach Mark Batka, suffering from growing tumors on his chest and back that were hampering his ability to work, decided to have surgery during a four-day recuperation trip to the pilot zone.

“In Canada it’s more expensive and it takes time to get an appointment for the surgery. And since I was here, I decided to give it a try and I was very happy, I think it went very well,” he said.

Mark Batka is just one of many foreign visitors who have taken advantage of the medical services at the pilot zone, which offers a world-class package of services, from premium medical check-ups and a combination of traditional Chinese and Western treatments to cultural experiences such as incense tasting, tea ceremonies and calligraphy.

Boao Yiling Life Support Center, a leading provider of comprehensive medical services in the pilot zone, provides a wide range of services such as health care, disease prevention, specific therapies, rehabilitation and mental health.

Janet Wong, who went on a Canadian wellness tour with Mark Batka, said she was impressed by the high-quality medical check-up she received at the centre.

“We were so surprised from the very beginning when we arrived,” she said, adding that the treatment was excellent and the medical examination incredibly thorough.

“In a way, it really does feel like a vacation,” said Stephanie Wing See Yau, another member of the Canadian group, calling the centre a truly world-class facility.

“It’s really impressive how they’ve put all these treatments together in one place,” she said, noting that she was glad to see that there was a focus on overall wellness, not just physical wellness but mental wellness as well. She described her trip as a great experience and said she would definitely recommend it to friends.

As part of the pilot zone’s efforts to develop health tourism, 25 specialized routes have been launched, tailored to different needs, from traditional Chinese medicine and chronic disease treatment to high-end medical check-ups and medical cosmetology. These routes are increasingly popular around the world. The pilot zone has also become a key platform supporting Hainan’s efforts to become a hub for international tourism and consumption.

By the end of 2024, more than 410,000 people had taken medical tours in the pilot zone, which is 36.76 percent more than in the previous year. Since the beginning of this year, 188,300 tourists from countries such as Canada, Spain, Russia, Uzbekistan and Cuba have already visited the zone to use medical services.

Kareldus Agas, an official with the International Tourism Promotion Department of Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, was deeply impressed by the comprehensive services at the pilot zone after visiting some wellness projects and traditional cultural activities, including calligraphy and cupping.

He said that Boao Lecheng not only offers advanced medical services, but also a harmonious combination of relaxation, wellness and spiritual healing, creating a truly unforgettable experience. He expressed a strong desire to visit the area again, even without a medical request, just to enjoy the unique feeling of relaxation he felt there.

The pilot zone has established partnerships with more than 180 pharmaceutical companies and medical equipment manufacturers from 20 countries, providing access to advanced international medical services for both domestic and foreign visitors, said He Ying, an official with the Boao Lecheng International Health Tourism Pilot Zone.
