MINSK, May 15 /Xinhua/ — The declared total investment of residents of the China-Belarus Industrial Park “Great Stone” has reached 1.57 billion US dollars, its press service announced on the occasion of the Industrial Park Day.

There are currently 150 residents registered in the Great Stone. 54 of them have already started implementing their projects, making a significant contribution to the economy of the park and the country as a whole. In 2025, the park was replenished with nine new residents representing Russia, China, Switzerland, Turkey and Belarus.

As the head of the industrial park administration, Alexander Yaroshenko, noted, “Great Stone” has become well known both in Belarus and abroad over the years of its operation thanks to the large contribution of Belarusian and Chinese departments and enterprises.

“We have been working fruitfully with our partners from friendly China all this time. And this interaction continues to strengthen. The economic effect of the park’s work is already noticeable. These are new products for Belarus, in demand on our market and supplied for export, new jobs. This became possible due to the fact that the park’s enterprises have been working and continue to work effectively all the time,” the newspaper “Respublika” quotes him as saying.

By the end of 2025, the number of project participants is expected to grow to 170 companies. The number of employees of resident companies will exceed 3,700 people. The China-Belarus Park also continues to develop its logistics potential. In 2024, the second stage of construction began, during which key logistics infrastructure facilities will be built. During 2025, active work will be carried out on the construction of a multimodal terminal on a 41-hectare site. It is expected that the terminal will be completed in 2026, and its implementation will speed up the transportation of goods within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative. –0–

  • MIL-OSI China: How China, LAC countries bolster shared development, boost Global South unity

Chinese President Xi Jinping announced on Tuesday the launch of five major programs to advance China’s shared development and revitalization with Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries at the just concluded fourth ministerial meeting of a key cooperation platform for the two sides in Beijing.

A container with the words “from Chancay to Shanghai” printed on it is pictured at Yangshan Port, east China’s Shanghai, Dec. 18, 2024. (Xinhua/Fang Zhe)

The five programs, ranging from solidarity, development and civilization to peace and people-to-people connectivity, provide a clear roadmap for deepening cooperation and advancing the common goals of both sides.

Over the past decade since the China-CELAC (the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum was established, political trust between China and LAC countries has been strengthened, their development strategies aligned, and cultural exchanges promoted.

    FROM SAPLING TO PILLAR

The seeds of the forum were sown in July 2014, when President Xi paid a state visit to Brazil and attended the first meeting between leaders of China and LAC countries.

At that meeting in Brasilia almost 11 years ago, the leaders agreed to establish the China-CELAC Forum, an institutional framework to advance the vision of building a China-LAC community with a shared future.

“At that meeting, President Xi held a very frank dialogue with Latin American leaders, focusing on issues such as poverty alleviation and infrastructure improvement,” recalled Valdemar Carneiro Leao, who witnessed the historic event as then Brazilian ambassador to China.

“The China-CELAC Forum is a newborn, just like a young shoot sprouting out of the earth, whose sturdy growth into a towering tree needs meticulous cultivation of both sides,” Xi said at the first ministerial meeting of the forum in 2015.

In his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the fourth ministerial meeting of the forum on Tuesday, Xi revisited the metaphor, saying that 10 years on, with dedicated nurturing of both sides, the forum has grown from a tender sapling into a towering tree.

Having witnessed how China-LAC relations have withstood global turbulence with ever-growing mutual political trust, Leao said Xi’s initiative to create the China-CELAC Forum has a forward-looking vision of the times.

Since its inception, the forum has grown into a robust platform for cooperation as China and the CELAC Quartet have held eight rounds of foreign ministerial dialogues to date, alongside more than 100 events spanning agricultural production, technological innovation, poverty reduction, green development, disaster response, defense cooperation, think tank exchanges and anti-corruption efforts.

Meanwhile, a range of institutional platforms, including the China-LAC Sustainable Food Innovation Center and the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center, have also taken root, helping the forum become a pillar of China-LAC cooperation.

“China-LAC cooperation has experienced a splendid golden decade, and is about to enter an even more promising diamond decade,” said Song Junying, director of the Department for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at the China Institute of International Studies.

    COMMON GROWTH, SHARED FUTURE

China and LAC countries ride the tide of progress together to pursue win-win cooperation, Xi said on Tuesday, noting that while embracing the trend of economic globalization, the two sides have deepened cooperation in trade, investment, finance, science and technology, infrastructure, among other fields.

In the framework of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, China and LAC countries have implemented more than 200 infrastructure projects, creating over a million jobs and forging a path of cooperation bridging the Pacific.

Notable examples include the China-LAC satellite cooperation program, which has become a model for high-tech South-South collaboration and the inauguration of Chancay Port in Peru, which has created a new land-and-sea connectivity link between Asia and Latin America.

China has also signed free trade agreements with Chile, Peru, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Nicaragua. Last year, trade between China and LAC countries exceeded 500 billion U.S. dollars for the first time, an increase of over 40 times from the beginning of this century.

For ordinary people like Leonardo Talledos, an operations control engineer for Colombia’s Bogota Metro Line 1, the significance of China-LAC cooperation today goes far beyond trade figures and project counts — it shapes his career and supports his aspirations.

Built and operated by Chinese companies, Bogota Metro Line 1 is Colombia’s largest infrastructure project to date. Once operational in 2028, it will cut travel time between terminal stations from nearly three hours to just 27 minutes.

In 2023, Talledos traveled to Xi’an, capital of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, for a year-long training program in metro operations, where he witnessed the rapid development of China’s urban transit systems. Inspired by the experience, he returned to Colombia to help compile training materials and operational guidelines for the metro line.

“From the moment we were hired, we were told that being part of this project was being part of Bogota’s history, because it was the beginning, the first line of many lines to come in the future,” said Talledos.

    GREATER SOLIDARITY, BIGGER VOICE

As part of the Year of the Snake celebrations, Brazilian soprano Marilia Vargas gave a moving performance of the Chinese song “I Love You, China” at Rio de Janeiro’s Municipal Theater. Dressed in a flowing red gown, her voice echoed powerfully throughout the hall.

Vargas, who has learned many Chinese songs in recent years, said her bond with China has deepened alongside the growth of the China-CELAC Forum. “Since the forum’s foundation, many more opportunities for cultural exchange between LAC countries and China have opened up.”

She told Xinhua that in the future, she will continue to “explore more Chinese musical treasures” and remain dedicated to advancing cultural exchanges between China and Brazil as well as between China and other LAC countries.

Over the past decade, cultural exchanges under the China-CELAC Forum have flourished. Joint archaeological projects have yielded substantial results, the number of exchange students has steadily increased, and interest in the Chinese language continues to surge across LAC countries.

“Mutual respect, diversity, knowledge and understanding” were the words used by Rogelio Rivero, Mexican archaeologist and director of the Archaeological Zone of Teotihuacan, to describe his experience in the cultural exchanges and dialogues held in China.

Rivero believes that LAC countries, by strengthening cultural exchanges with China and other Global South countries, will effectively contribute to breaking with “Western-centrism” and balancing unilateral narratives at the global level.

Despite differences in civilizations and cultures, independence and self-determination remain a shared and defining spirit of the Global South, said Ninfa Montano, president of the China-Mexico Cultural Development Foundation.

“The China-CELAC Forum unites the strength of the Global South, promoting unity and cooperation among many developing countries, and will contribute to establishing a more just and equitable global governance system,” Montano said.

Montano’s view was echoed by many analysts, who see the ministerial meeting as a chance to deepen cooperation, address global challenges and reinforce South-South solidarity.

The cooperation between China and LAC countries has set a model of mutually beneficial South-South collaboration, said Manuel Alberto Hidalgo, economist at Peru’s National University of San Marcos.

By deepening bilateral partnership, both sides have effectively strengthened solidarity and cooperation in the Global South and made positive contributions to promoting the bloc’s greater role in global governance, he said.

For Ingrid Chavez, executive director of the Colombian-Chinese Chamber of Investment and Commerce, the cooperation helps build up “a common voice as a bloc,” empowering LAC countries to negotiate more effectively on the global stage.

It helps LAC countries “establish interregional, multilateral relations and somewhat change the power dynamics that have existed until now at the global level,” she added.

BEIJING, May 15 — A 0.5-percentage points reduction in the reserve requirement ratio (RRR) for eligible financial institutions takes effect Thursday, with the move expected to inject roughly 1 trillion yuan (about 139 billion U.S. dollars) of long-term liquidity into the financial market.

The RRR cut, the first such move since the start of this year, was announced last week by the People’s Bank of China, China’s central bank.

The RRR cut was among a raft of supportive measures that also included policy rate cut and increased financial support through relending facilities announced by monetary and financial regulatory bodies recently, as the world’s second-largest economy steps up efforts to stabilize markets and sustain economic recovery amid external headwinds.

Also starting Thursday, the RRR for auto financing and financial leasing companies is slashed by 5 percentage points to zero percent, with the cut expected to increase the credit supply capacity of these two types of institutions in their respective fields.

U.S. President Donald Trump held a meeting on Wednesday with Syrian interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to discuss normalizing bilateral ties, while expressing his willingness to reach a deal with Iran.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan joined Trump and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud online during the meeting, Türkiye’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Trump’s meeting with al-Sharaa — the first between a U.S. president and a Syrian leader in decades — took place on the sidelines of a summit between Trump and leaders from Gulf states.

During the summit, Trump noted in a speech that the normalization of relations between the United States and Syria began with his meeting with al-Sharaa.

He also called on Syria to join the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords to normalize relations with Israel, despite the Israeli military having conducted frequent airstrikes and ground operations in Syria since the ouster of former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.

On Tuesday, Trump announced at an investment forum in Saudi Arabia that he would lift sanctions on Syria in a major policy shift.

“I will be ordering the cessation of sanctions against Syria in order to give them a chance at greatness,” Trump said, noting that the United States had taken the first steps toward normalizing relations with Damascus.

During the summit with leaders of the Gulf states, the U.S. president also mentioned the ongoing indirect talks with Iran on Tehran’s nuclear program and the removal of Washington’s sanctions.

“I want to make a deal with Iran … but for that to happen, it must stop sponsoring terror, halt its bloody proxy wars, and permanently and verifiably cease its pursuit of nuclear weapons,” the U.S. president said, while calling on “all nations” to enforce the sanctions he had just placed on Iran, which he described as “the most destructive force” in the region.

Trump’s remarks prompted a scathing response from Iran, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi saying Trump was employing “sheer deception by misplacing the true source of threat.”

Trump is on the second day of his first major foreign visit since taking office, which includes stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

During his trip to Saudi Arabia, which began on Tuesday, Trump secured investment commitments worth 600 billion U.S. dollars from the Gulf nation.

  • MIL-OSI China: US stocks close mixed after S&P 500 wipes out 2025 losses

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

U.S. stocks were little changed on Wednesday as investors took a breather following a strong rally earlier in the week that pushed the S&P 500 into positive territory for the year.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 89.37 points, or 0.21 percent, to 42,051.06. The S&P 500 added 6.03 points, or 0.10 percent, to 5,892.58, extending a two-day rally and moving further into positive territory for the year. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 136.72 points, or 0.72 percent, to 19,146.81.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with health and materials leading the laggards by losing 2.31 percent and 0.96 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and technology led the gainers by going up 1.58 percent and 0.96 percent, respectively.

Technology shares led the market, with Nvidia climbing 4.16 percent after it announced plans to deliver 18,000 of its advanced artificial intelligence chips to Saudi Arabia. Fellow chipmaker AMD jumped more than 4 percent, buoyed by news of a 6 billion U.S. dollars share buyback.

So far this week, the S&P 500 has gained more than 4 percent, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is up over 1 percent, and the Nasdaq has surged more than 6 percent. The recent rally has lifted the S&P 500 more than 21 percent from its April 7 intraday low, when it had been down over 20 percent from its all-time high in February.

The boost in market sentiment follows progress in China-U.S. trade talks in Geneva. Earlier this week, the United States cut its tariffs on Chinese imports to 30 percent, while China reduced its duties on U.S. goods to 10 percent. These steps eased fears of a full-blown trade war, after the two countries had threatened to impose tariffs above 100 percent last month.

“While this progress has led to a likely peak in investor fear and policy uncertainty, there are still a lot of unknowns over where tariff rates will ultimately land,” said Adam Turnquist, chief technical strategist at LPL Financial.

On Wednesday, American Eagle (AEO) joined a slew of retailers pulling their 2025 guidance due to macro uncertainty.

“However, for now, investors have embraced the de-escalatory backdrop, especially the tariff reprieve deal reached with China over the weekend,” said Turnquist.

According to Deutsche Bank, U.S. equities are likely to continue outperforming in the near term, thanks to the easing trade tensions. However, Deutsche Bank strategist Maximilian Uleer noted in a Wednesday report that, despite the tariff relief, the long-term burden of trade policy may still weigh more heavily on U.S. companies than their European counterparts.

  • MIL-OSI China: Real Madrid top Mallorca to put Barca party on hold

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

FC Barcelona will have to wait until at least Thursday night to confirm this season’s La Liga title after a goal from Real Madrid youngster Jacobo Ramon gave his side a 2-1 win at home to Mallorca on Wednesday night.

The B-team player scored with a flick over Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman in virtually the last second of a game that looked to be heading for a draw that would have made Barcelona champions before its game at Espanyol on Thursday.

Mallorca took the lead against an injury-hit Madrid side when Martin Valjent opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

Endrick, Jude Bellingham and Mbappe all saw efforts saved by Roman, who was Mallorca’s best player with 11 saves on the night.

Mbappe finally hit the back of the net midway through the second half, and Madrid kept up the pressure until Ramon’s goal that keeps the title race alive for at least 24 hours.

Villarreal moved level on points with fourth-placed Athletic Bilbao with an impressive win at home to Leganes.

Ayoze Perez scored on 22 and 30 minutes to give Villarreal a comfortable lead, with Nicolas Pepe making it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time.

The result means Leganes is staring relegation in the face after Alaves won 1-0 at home to Valencia.

A 79th-minute penalty from Joan Jordan after Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was harshly judged to have fouled Santiago Mourino decided the match, and leaves Alaves four points above Leganes with two games remaining.

Leganes has to win its two remaining matches against Valladolid and Las Palmas, and hope Alaves fails to take two points from its matches against Valladolid and Osasuna.

Wednesday’s results mean Las Palmas is mathematically relegated after Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to Sevilla, which is now safe from the drop.

China launches scientific expedition to glacial headwaters of Yellow River

    Xinhua | May 15, 2025

A scientific expedition to Mount Anyemaqen, a critical water conservation area at the headwaters of the Yellow River, was launched Tuesday in Xining, capital of northwest China’s Qinghai Province, as part of the country’s broader efforts to protect its second-longest river.

Researchers will monitor changes in glaciers, permafrost and water resources to better understand the region’s response to climate change. The findings are expected to guide long-term ecological protection and restoration strategies, according to the organizers of the expedition.

Located in the Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Mount Anyemaqen is the largest snow-capped mountain in the Yellow River source area. The mountain is home to more than 40 glaciers, key components of the cryosphere and sensitive indicators of climate change.

With more than 100 square kilometers of glacial coverage, the area plays a vital role in maintaining water levels in source lakes that feed the Yellow River.

“With global warming, the glaciers of Mount Anyemaqen are experiencing profound changes,” said Hou Guangliang, a professor at Qinghai Normal University’s school of geographical sciences. “We’re seeing declining glacier surface elevations, rapidly retreating glacier tongues and more frequent ice avalanches.”

Experts say the research will support China’s broader efforts to safeguard water security and biodiversity in the Yellow River basin amid global changes.

The mission is being led by the Sanjiangyuan Ecological Protection Foundation, the Three-River-Source National Park administration, and Qinghai Normal University.

The Yellow River, measuring 5,464 km in length, originates in Qinghai Province and flows through Sichuan, Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Shanxi and Henan, before passing through Shandong in east China and emptying into the Bohai Sea.

China’s Sichuan strives to boost brain-computer interface industry

    Xinhua | May 15, 2025

Southwest China’s Sichuan Province has joined other cities and provinces in an effort to make the region a national leader in brain-computer interface (BCI) and human-machine interaction technologies.

The Sichuan government released an action plan on Monday, outlining ambitious targets for the province to achieve before 2030. These targets include conducting 3,000 invasive BCI surgeries every year, assisting over 100,000 patients with neurodegenerative, mental health or digital addiction issues, and applying BCI-based rehabilitation devices for more than 20,000 users annually.

The action plan was jointly released by eight government departments, including the provincial department of economy and information technology.

According to Chengdu Jasmines Bio Tech Inc., a Sichuan-based biotech company dedicated to developing clinical applications for neurodegenerative diseases, the policy is expected to boost innovation, strengthen industry collaboration, and expand application scenarios, opening up greater opportunities for business growth.

Sichuan’s plan is part of a broader national push. Since the beginning of this year, local governments across China have rolled out a series of favorable policies to support the development of the BCI industry.

In January, Beijing released an action plan focused on expanding funding channels and encouraging early-stage investment to accelerate the sector’s growth.

Shanghai followed with its own initiative, aiming to tackle key scientific challenges in BCI technology and promote product innovation through improved integration of resources.

According to Qianzhan Industry Research Institute, the global BCI market was worth 1.98 billion U.S. dollars in 2023 and is expected to surpass 6 billion dollars by 2028.

The institute predicts that China’s BCI market will surpass 120 billion yuan (about 16.68 billion U.S. dollars) by 2040, with a compound annual growth rate of about 26 percent.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Wicker Encouraged by Trump-Zelensky Deal

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for Mississippi Roger Wicker

On February 24, 2022, Russia rolled tanks into Ukraine, expecting to conquer its neighbor in a matter of weeks. The free world rallied to supply military, economic, and humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people, who have fought valiantly against the thugs invading their homeland. Now, three years later, President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky have signed an economic investment agreement. The deal plants a flag regarding America’s intentions toward Ukraine, and it could help pave the way to peace and freedom in that war-torn country.

The new plan was negotiated by the president, his Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, and his Ukraine envoy, respected American General Keith Kellogg. It sets in motion a more formal, binding pact. Ultimately, Ukraine and the United States will create a jointly owned fund to give America a real stake in Ukraine’s post-war commerce. The eastern European country has vast energy resources – including natural gas, oil, and critical minerals. President Trump is working to rebuild our critical minerals supply chains, and I am advancing legislation that would fund those efforts. Ukraine will be a key part of that work.

President Trump Sends a Message to Putin

With these terms, President Trump brings the credibility of the American economy to a nation poised for stability and growth. The president campaigned on a pledge to end the brutal war unleashed by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who has consistently rejected President Trump’s offers to engage in peace talks. Instead, he has tried to wear down Ukraine’s resolve by bombing non-combatant civilian neighborhoods.

After the attacks, President Trump stated that Putin “has to be dealt with differently.” Treasury Secretary Bessent echoed those comments, labeling Putin a war criminal. As the administration pursues peace negotiations, it is taking into account Putin’s character, aware that he will respond only to strength.

The agreement clearly indicates that America is committed to the long-term peace of Ukraine. Additionally, the president has taken more steps to assist Ukraine by approving the transfer of American air-defense systems to the country.

    Ukraine Understands the Stakes

The Ukrainians are also sending a message. When he signed this agreement, President Zelensky showed that his people will work with the United States to increase the security and prosperity of both our nations.

From day one of this war, Ukrainians have refused to bend the knee to Putin. They know better than anyone the lengths he will go to accomplish his goals. He has unleashed horrors on thousands of Ukrainians – even women, children, and Christians traveling to and from Palm Sunday celebrations. He has formed increasingly tight bonds with the dictators who control North Korea, Iran, and China.

Russian success in Ukraine would embolden each of those rogue nations. For his part, Putin would gain strategic military positions on the borders of countries we are treaty-bound to defend. Stopping Putin now can weaken his resolve to threaten even more of the free world.

    Lasting Peace Comes Through Strength

In the long run, lasting stability will be made possible only by strengthened Ukrainian and European militaries, supported by U.S technological and strategic resources. The Biden administration handcuffed Ukraine by slow-walking the tools it needed to stop Putin. President Trump is correcting course and strengthening the U.S. military at the same time

For the past year, Presidents Trump and Zelensky have been echoing Ronald Reagan’s “peace through strength” philosophy. They both believe that the best way to avoid conflict is to prepare for it. President Trump has already started working to rebuild U.S. military readiness so that no adversary dares to move against America.

Under his direction, the Pentagon can work with Ukraine to produce more weapons and create new defense relationships. Both steps will improve security for both nations. As Ukraine plans its recovery from Putin’s war, we must work together to deter the next dictator from starting one.

BEIJING, May 14 — Tuesday’s successful ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC (the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum demonstrated the solidarity and good momentum of bilateral relations. This key event in Beijing unveiled measures to deepen cooperation and exchanges between China and Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries.

A decade into the official launch of the China-CELAC Forum, closer cooperation holds immense promise as China and LAC countries advance hand in hand as a community with a shared future, which is founded upon equality, powered by mutual benefit and win-win, invigorated by openness and inclusiveness, and dedicated to the people’s well-being.

At the fourth ministerial meeting of the forum, China systematically summarized the successful experience of the development of China-LAC relations, and announced the launch of five programs on solidarity, development, civilization, peace, and people-to-people connectivity respectively, advancing shared development and revitalization and contributing to a China-LAC community with a shared future.

Development and modernization are an inherent right for people of all countries. As important members of the Global South, China and LAC countries are advancing their own modernization drives and sustainable development. Against the backdrop of mounting global challenges, solidarity and coordination among nations are indispensable for safeguarding world peace and stability and promoting common development and prosperity.

In this regard, China and LAC countries have set a brilliant example. The two sides champion true multilateralism, uphold international fairness and justice, promote multipolarization in the world, and advocate for greater democracy in international relations.

Practical cooperation in various fields has proven to be fruitful and mutually beneficial. The trade volume between China and LAC countries doubled in the past decade, reaching 518.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2024. Additionally, more than 200 infrastructure projects and multiple industrial projects built by China have generated over one million jobs. More than 20 countries have synergized development strategies with China under the Belt and Road cooperation framework. Colombia, the latest, on Wednesday signed a cooperation plan with China on jointly building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road.

Notably, cooperation between China and LAC countries has no geopolitical calculations. China’s investment in the LAC region has no political strings. China advocates extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefit. The cooperation respects the wishes of LAC countries, meets the needs of their people, and provides enormous opportunities for their development.

China and LAC countries account for approximately a quarter of the world’s population and a quarter of the global economic output, and have great growth potential and development vitality. The two sides have reaffirmed their commitments to development, cooperation and solidarity at the latest ministerial meeting. They are set to make new and greater progress in building a China-LAC community with a shared future in the years to come.

The 24th edition of the ‘Chinese Bridge’ Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in Jordan selected the country’s champion on Wednesday to represent the country at the global finals, to be held in Beijing later this year.

During the country’s final held at the University of Jordan, 13 contestants from the University of Jordan, Philadelphia University in Jordan, and the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute showcased their Chinese language skills through speeches, knowledge tests, and talent performances.

Younis Abu Alsondos from the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute secured the champion and will represent Jordan for the Beijing finals. Sama Al Shuaibi from the University of Jordan won second place.

The country’s final was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Jordan and hosted by the Amman Chinese Cultural Center and the University of Jordan.

Addressing the final, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Chen Chuandong stressed the importance of language in understanding the world and connecting people’s hearts.

“Through the Chinese language, we can feel the pulse of the changing times and get up close to the open, inclusive, and ever-changing modern China,” he said.

Chen highlighted the growing popularity of Chinese language learning in Jordan, with over 1,000 students enrolled in the country’s two Confucius Institutes and seven Chinese language programs.

He called on the youth to tell the stories of the China-Jordan and China-Arab friendship, and contribute to mutual learning and closer connection between Chinese and Arab civilizations, as well as deepening practical cooperation between China and Arab countries.

Marwan Al-Jarrah, dean of the School of Foreign Languages at the University of Jordan, highlighted the vital role of language in building bridges between cultures, saying that the Chinese language has become a key to understanding and engaging with the world, and that his university has placed the Chinese language at the heart of its development.

  • MIL-OSI China: Zheng ousts No. 1 Sabalenka in Rome; Gauff next

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

China’s Zheng Qinwen claimed a straight-sets victory over top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals of the WTA Italian Open on Wednesday, reaching the semifinals of a WTA 1000 event for the third time in her career.

The two players had met six times previously, with Sabalenka winning on each occasion. This match marked their first encounter on clay.

In the opening set, both players held serve through the first three games, with Sabalenka leading 2-1. In the fourth game, Zheng saved two break points to hold, and then won four consecutive points in the fifth game to score a crucial break. Over the next four games, both players held serve, leaving Zheng ahead 5-4. In the 10th game, Zheng fired down two aces and took the set 6-4.

In the second set, Zheng carried her momentum forward, breaking serve in the first game and then reeling off four straight points to take the second game. The following four games saw both players hold, with Zheng maintaining a 4-2 lead. Sabalenka saved four break points in the seventh game to narrow the gap, but Zheng stayed strong, holding serve and then breaking again to close out the match 6-3, reaching the semifinals in Rome for the first time.

“Finally, I broke through! I’ve always known I have the ability to beat anyone, and I’m really happy that I truly did it today,” said Zheng after the match.

Zheng gave herself a score of 7.5 for her performance. “I think I did well at the start, and I told myself I couldn’t lose those opening games so easily like before. When the match enters a tighter phase, I feel it’s more to my advantage, because actually, I’m better than her at playing long rallies. When the match goes into a three or four-shot exchange, statistically, I have the edge,” Zheng reflected.

In this match, Zheng’s first-serve points won percentage reached a remarkable 82 percent, which became a decisive factor in her victory. “Today, one thing I did really well was that my first serve was there in the crucial moments, and I also controlled my unforced errors very well,” she said.

“When I played against her before, maybe because she had the title of world number one and a Grand Slam champion, and also because when I was a teenager, I used to watch her play, so I couldn’t properly read the situation,” Zheng said. “In the first three matches against her, I felt really frustrated, because I only showed about 30 or 40 percent of my ability. When I stripped away the aura around her, I was able to see the match situation clearly and focus on attacking her weaknesses instead of trying to go head-to-head with her strengths.”

In the semifinals, Zheng will face fourth seed Coco Gauff.

The Zhejiang Lions overpowered the Beijing Ducks 106-73 away to lead 3-1 in the 2024-25 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) best-of-seven finals on Wednesday.

After a thrilling away victory in Beijing on Monday, Zhejiang felt more at ease to compete in the Capital Indoor Stadium.

Zhejiang carried on the high morale and started Games 4 with a 19-8 lead. The tough defense and smooth fast breaks helped Zhejiang once extend the advantage to 20 points.

Following a 53-35 first half, Zhejiang continued to enlarge the gap to 30 points with an all-around performance ahead of the final quarter. On the contrary, the home team Beijing didn’t find any chance to bounce back and swallowed the 33-point loss.

“We emphasized high-intensity defense all the time. Our team did an excellent job today. All players are eager for the victory,” Zhejiang head coach Wang Bo said after the game.

Lin Bing Sheng of Zhejiang came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points with four three-pointers and five steals, while his teammate Barry Brown also pocketed 22 points in less than 27 minutes.

“We moved the ball in a clear and rational way with great team work. We trust each other, as winning the champion is our shared goal,” Lin noted. “We will keep making improvement and fighting for the final win.”

Beijing’s Chen Ying-chun registered a team-high 13 points. The home side had 17 turnovers and only hit four three-pointers.

Beijing head coach Xu Limin said after the disappointed match, “Our mentality was not on the same level as the Lions. Zhejiang is more experienced to handle difficulties, which is what we lack. We are honored to show ourselves in the CBA Finals, and we will compete to the end.”

With just one win away from the club’s first-ever CBA champion, Zhejiang will confront Beijing at home in Game 5 on Saturday.

  • MIL-OSI China: Lewandowski back for Barca at Espanyol with title in sight

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

FC Barcelona can either seal the La Liga title on Thursday night with a win away to local rival Espanyol, or use the match as a celebration, depending on Real Madrid’s result at home to Mallorca on Wednesday.

If Madrid fails to beat Mallorca, Barca will be champions without kicking a ball, but otherwise, there will still be work to do against a side that is not totally safe from relegation.

Barca’s 4-3 win at home to Madrid on Sunday leaves the title in its grasp, although Jules Kounde is still injured and Inigo Martinez will miss the game through suspension.

On a positive note, Marc Casado and Robert Lewandowski could both play as Barca looks to complete a league and cup double.

Thursday could also confirm Athletic Bilbao’s place in the Champions League if the Basque side wins away to a Getafe that is on a run of five straight losses.

The Williams brothers are still out for Athletic, but Alex Berenguer and Andoni Gorosabel both return after suspension, and Benat Prados could be available after suffering a shin injury a week ago.

Athletic could have its Champions League place confirmed before kick-off if Real Betis fails to win away to Getafe in an early kick-off. The Seville-based outfit is six points behind Athletic with nine to play for, but with a worse goal difference.

Rayo, meanwhile, still has a good chance of a top-eight finish and a place in Europe next season.

Osasuna is also aiming to play in Europe, although the Pamplona side has to play Atletico Madrid which has been inconsistent lately, with more problems on the road than in front of its own fans.

Julian Alvarez will be back for Atletico after suspension, but Alexander Sorloth will surely start again after scoring four against Real Sociedad at the weekend.

The Victorian government and Golf Australia announced that the 2025 tournament would be held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club from December 4 to 7 and that Kingston Heath Golf Club would host the 2026 event.

Both courses are on the Melbourne Sandbelt, a renowned golfing region some 20 kilometers southeast of the city center.

“I’m proud to be committing to the Australian Open for the next two years, especially with it being played on the world-class Melbourne Sandbelt, somewhere I’ve always wanted to play professionally,” McIlroy said in a statement.

The announcement comes after McIlroy in April won The Masters Tournament for the first time, completing a career grand slam of golf’s major championships.

The 36-year-old McIlroy won the Australian Open in 2013 when it was played in Sydney. He has not played a professional tournament in Australia since 2014.

Australia’s 9News network reported that McIlroy will be joined in the 2025 field by top-ranked Australians Cam Smith, Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott.

Steve Dimopoulos, Victoria’s Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, described McIlroy’s commitment to play at the Australian Open as a “major coup” that will be “fantastic” for the state’s visitor economy.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: US think tanks need to be less confrontational in their China-related analysis

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: People’s Republic of China in Russian – People’s Republic of China in Russian –

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

Recently, the American Atlantic Council published an article titled “Competing with China: Either a Quick Victory or a Crushing Defeat,” which argues that in the event of a conflict between China and the United States, the United States must seek a quick conclusion or face “catastrophic consequences.” The author of the article, Glick, argues that a “short, regional, and limited war” best suits the capabilities and interests of the United States, and that an excessive focus on a “protracted war” will only lead to defeat.

Glick’s view is just one of many analyses in the American strategic community on this topic. Analysis of the military power ratio of China and the United States, or modeling the so-called “China-US standoff,” has always been the focus of research by American think tanks and often becomes an important reference point for Washington in making strategic decisions. It can be said that the research and assessments of some American think tanks have, to a certain extent, become “indirect factors” contributing to the deterioration of China-US relations.

In this regard, China needs to conduct an in-depth analysis in three areas:

First, we should be wary of the cognitive limitations of viewing Sino-US relations through the prism of confrontation. Such thinking is essentially a narrow zero-sum logic. The problem is this: first, it ignores the multidimensional and complex nature of Sino-US relations. Second, it overestimates the inevitability and severity of confrontation. Historical experience shows that Sino-US relations have always developed in a dynamic balance between tension and détente, and the potential for cooperation has never disappeared completely despite competition. Finally, there is a hidden risk of strategic miscalculation.

Second, it is important to understand the logic behind the “insecurity” of some in the United States that is behind the confrontational thinking. The current crisis of US self-confidence is due to many problems. In a period of adjustment, the United States, unlike in its heyday, needs international cooperation to address global challenges.

Third, it is necessary to clearly understand the future development trend of China-US relations. In the era of globalization, when science and technology are rapidly developing, the degree of exchange between countries is deepening, and the interrelations between countries are reaching an unprecedented level, peaceful coexistence between China and the US is no longer just a choice based on the interests of the two countries, but a necessary condition for safeguarding the common interests of mankind and the common development of the world.

American think tanks need to understand that the outdated logic of the zero-sum game does not apply to modern Sino-US relations. The economic complementarity of the two countries, as well as the inevitability of cooperation in security and public goods, should be the basis for the healthy development of Sino-US relations.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Thompson, Sewell Introduce Solid American Hardwood Tax Credit Act

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Glenn Thompson (5th District Pennsylvania)

Bipartisan bill will level playing field for American-grown and manufactured hardwood products

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) and Terri Sewell (D-AL) introduced the Solid American Hardwood Tax Credit Act to allow individual taxpayers to include solid American manufactured hardwood products, such as flooring and paneling, as qualified home energy efficiency improvements under the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit. By including hardwood materials as eligible products for this credit, the legislation will provide meaningful environmental and economic benefits.

As a building material, hardwood actively sequesters carbon and serves as long-term carbon storage in residential structures. Carbon storage reduces the impact of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and helps support more sustainable practices. By ensuring hardwood materials are fairly counted as an energy efficient home improvement, this legislation will help lower the cost of housing, strengthen American manufacturing, and protect American jobs.

“Pennsylvania is blessed with some of the finest hardwoods in the world, which have provided thousands of jobs across the Commonwealth,” Rep. Thompson said. “This bill supports the Trump Administration’s timber production and housing affordability initiatives, ultimately helping to lower housing costs and strengthen American industry. I look forward to continuing to advocate for domestic hardwood production.”

“Alabama’s rich history and association with timber farming and hardwood product sale & production is integral for a strong statewide economy,” Rep. Sewell said. “This legislation will help preserve American jobs in the lumber and hardwood industries by combating bad actors in China that have begun to flood markets with inadequate imitations of U.S made products.”

“Without active management, responsible harvesting, and robust markets, the health of our hardwood forests—and the industries and communities that depend on them—are at serious risk.  Providing consumers with a tax credit to purchase real, American grown, American manufactured solid hardwood products over cheap, imported substitutes will save thousands of American jobs and small businesses in rural America,” said Dallin Brooks, Executive Director of the National Hardwood Lumber Association.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held meetings with Honduran Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina, Bolivian Foreign Minister Celinda Sosa Lunda, and Mexican Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente in Beijing on Wednesday.

Reina, Sosa and De la Fuente are in China for the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum.

When meeting with Reina, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that China appreciates Honduras’ reaffirmation that it adheres to the one-China principle, and supports Honduras in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence and dignity.

China is willing to share its governance experience with Honduras, stands ready to assist Honduras in exploring a development path that suits its national conditions and is supported by its people, and will continue to provide assistance — within its own ability — to improve people’s livelihoods and capacity-building in Honduras, Wang said.

Reina said the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries were deeply inspired by the important cooperation initiatives proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and noted that Honduras will firmly abide by the one-China principle and translate the important consensus reached between the two heads of state into more tangible achievements.

During his meeting with Sosa, Wang said that China appreciates Bolivia’s resolute commitments to upholding national dignity and legitimate rights and interests, undeterred by external interference.

Wang extended congratulations to Bolivia on joining BRICS as a partner country, saying that China is willing to enhance communication and cooperation with Bolivia within multilateral mechanisms. Both sides should work together to continue advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, he added.

Sosa said that Bolivia is a firm defender of multilateralism and the right to national self-determination, attaches great importance to BRICS cooperation, and is willing to leverage this platform to strengthen solidarity and mutual support within the Global South. She also noted that adherence to the one-China principle is Bolivia’s firm position.

When meeting with De la Fuente, Wang said that China places its relations with Mexico in a pivotal position in its diplomacy with LAC countries. He said that guided by the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, China is ready to share with Mexico its experience in comprehensively advancing Chinese modernization and the opportunities presented by China’s vast market.

China welcomes more high-quality products from Mexico to enter the Chinese market, and will encourage Chinese enterprises to invest and start businesses in Mexico, Wang added.

De la Fuente said that Mexico upholds its sovereignty and independence, and will continue to abide by the one-China principle, adding that Mexico will strengthen cooperation between the two countries in areas such as connectivity, science and technology, agriculture, tourism and direct flights, and constantly enrich the substance of Mexico-China relations.

  • MIL-OSI China: US researchers identify tissue changes linked to aggressive breast cancer risk

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

Researchers at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) have identified structural changes in breast connective tissue that are linked to a higher risk of developing aggressive breast cancer, according to a new study published on Wednesday.

The findings, published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, suggest that these changes, referred to as stromal disruption, could serve as a potential biomarker to identify women at greater risk, even before cancer develops.

The research also found that stromal disruption is associated with poorer survival outcomes among women already diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.

The team used machine learning to analyze over 9,000 breast tissue samples, including healthy breast tissues, benign breast disease biopsies, and cancerous tissues. They discovered that stromal disruption was more common in women with risk factors for aggressive breast cancer, such as obesity, Black race, early age, multiple childbirths, and a family history of the disease.

In women with benign breast disease, substantial stromal disruption was linked to a significantly higher likelihood of developing breast cancer and a faster disease onset. Among breast cancer patients, those with greater stromal disruption were more likely to have aggressive cancer subtypes and lower survival rates, especially in estrogen receptor-positive cases.

Such insights could help inform the development of cancer prevention and treatment strategies that target the stromal microenvironment. In addition, stromal disruption is inexpensive to assess and could be widely adopted, particularly in low-resource settings where molecular analysis is impractical or very expensive, according to the study.
