  • India expected to clock 6.9 pc GDP growth in Q4 of FY25: Report

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

India’s GDP growth is expected to increase to 6.9 per cent in Q4 FY2025 from 6.2 per cent in Q3 FY2025 despite the enhanced global uncertainty due to the US tariff turmoil during the quarter, according to an ICRA report released on Monday.

The report also highlights an increase in consumer sentiment in both the rural and urban areas.

ICRA chief economist Aditi Nayar said, “In a quarter characterised by enhanced uncertainty on the global front, ICRA estimates India’s GDP growth to have risen to 6.9 per cent in Q4 FY2025 from 6.2 per cent in Q3 FY2025. Both private consumption and trends for investment activity were uneven in Q4 FY2025, with the latter partly owing to tariff-related uncertainty.”

While the robust increase in the output of most rabi crops is likely to have boosted the agri-GVA growth in Q4 FY2025, the tepid pace of expansion in the industrial volume growth as well as the deterioration in the performance of several service-sector indicators is expected to have weighed on the GVA growth of these segments,” she added.

Based on the available data for the Centre’s indirect taxes and subsidies, ICRA estimates that the growth in net indirect taxes rose quite sharply in the quarter from 6.8 per cent in Q3 FY2025, aided by a sharp contraction in the Centre’s subsidy disbursement (-33 per cent in Q4 FY2025 vs. +31.1 per cent in Q3 FY2025.

Against the backdrop of trade-related uncertainty triggered by the US tariffs, India’s investment activity showcased a mixed trend in Q4 FY2025. The year-on-year performance of six of the 11 investment-related high-frequency indicators improved in Q4 over Q3, mostly pertaining to the construction sector, including infrastructure/construction goods’ output, cement production, and finished steel consumption.

Additionally, state-investor meets in Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, and West Bengal pushed up project announcements to record levels of Rs 19.2 lakh crore in Q4 FY2025 (vs Rs 16.1 lakh crore in Q4 FY2024).

The Centre’s capex in Q4 FY2025 reflected in the revised budget estimate, would imply a healthy YoY growth of around 21 per cent during the quarter.

While the pace of YoY expansion of services exports slowed to 14.1 per cent in Q4 FY2025 from 17.9 per cent in Q3 FY2025, it continued to print in double digits for the third consecutive quarter. Notably, services exports stood at $102.0 billion in Q4 FY2025, the highest level seen in the Q4 of any fiscal, the report points out.

Rural sentiments, as reflected in the Current Situation Index (CSI), improved somewhat in January 2025, likely aided by cash flows from the kharif harvest and favourable trends in rabi sowing and output.

Interestingly, the March 2025 round of the RBI’s Urban Consumer Confidence Survey, which is conducted in 19 major cities, revealed that urban consumer sentiments improved further, with the CSI rising to 95.5 from 93.7 in January 2025, the report added.

  • MIL-OSI: CBAK Energy Reports First Quater 2025 Unaudited Financial Results

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

DALIAN, China, May 19, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — CBAK Energy Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBAT) (“CBAK Energy,” or the “Company”) a leading lithium-ion battery manufacturer and electric energy solution provider in China, today reported its unaudited financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2025.

First Quater of 2025 Financial Results

Net revenues1 were $34.9 million, representing a decrease of 41% compared to $58.8 million in the same period of 2024. The substantial decline primarily stems from our Dalian facilities, where a major portion of customers are in the residential energy supply sector. These facilities are currently undergoing a product portfolio upgrade, transitioning from Model 26650 to Model 40135. Customers who previously purchased Model 26650 are now in a transitional phase of testing and validating the new Model 40135. We anticipate a gradual recovery as both existing and potential customers complete the validation of Model 40135.

Among these revenues, detailed revenues from our battery business are:

    Total   44,837,869     20,363,338     -54.6
1 Net revenues consist of the Company’s self-operated battery business and Hitrans, which was acquired in 2021, an independently managed raw materials business.

    Cost of revenues
was $30.14 million, representing a decrease of 24.7% from $40.0 million in the same period of 2024.

Gross profit was $4.8 million, representing an decrease of 74.43% from $18.78 million in the same period of 2024. Gross margin was 13.7%, compared to 31.9% in the same period of 2024.

Operating loss amounted to $2.86 million, compared to an operating income of $10.3 million in the same period of 2024.

Net loss attributable to shareholders of CBAK Energy was $1.58 million, compared to net income attributable to shareholders of CBAK Energy of $9.8 million in the same period of 2024.

Basic and diluted loss per share were both $0.02, compared to basic and diluted income per share of $0.11 in 2024.

Zhiguang Hu, Chief Executive Officer of the Company, commented, “As anticipated, we experienced a significant 41% year-over-year decline in net revenues. This decrease was expected, as Model 26650 — a cell developed in 2006 and still produced at our Dalian facilities — has become largely outdated. Both existing and potential customers are currently transitioning from Model 26650 to the more advanced Model 40135. We are confident that, upon completing the construction of new manufacturing lines for Model 40135 in the second half of this year, and as customers finalize product validation, our revenues will begin to recover gradually.”

Jiewei Li, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of the Board, added, “As Mr. Hu emphasized, we expect to recover once the product portfolio upgrade at our Dalian facilities is completed. Meanwhile, our Nanjing facilities continue to experience strong growth momentum, driven by robust market demand for Model 32140, our most advanced and flagship product to date. Additionally, we are in the final stages of securing a long-term order from one of our key customers, which we hope to finalize and share with our shareholders in the near future.”

  • MIL-OSI Russia: HSE MBA: Chinese experience for Russian managers

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: State University Higher School of Economics – State University Higher School of Economics –

The visiting module of the MBA program of the Higher School of Business of the National Research University Higher School of Economics was successfully held in Shanghai. It was attended by 94 students: top managers of large Russian companies, entrepreneurs, heads of departments of state-owned companies.

The module was organized jointly with Fudan University, one of the leading centers of business education in Asia. The university is among the best universities in China and Asia, widely recognized for its high level of teaching, quality of scientific research and international programs in the field of economics and management.

The theoretical part of the module covered key aspects of the economy and business of modern China. The classes were taught by Fudan University lecturers – recognized experts in their fields, experienced specialists who are engaged in research projects in the areas of global and digital economy, fintech, corporate governance, blockchain technologies, big data and cybersecurity. Many of them are graduates of leading universities around the world, publish in authoritative scientific journals and actively consult businesses and government agencies. During the week, they immersed listeners in the specifics of the financial system of the PRC, discussed challenges to the country’s competitiveness in the international arena, compared approaches to the digital transformation of industry in China and in other countries.

The practical part of the program was no less interesting and important for the audience. The organizers of the module offered a rich plan of visits to leading Chinese companies from key industries. Among them were COSCO Shipping, one of the world’s largest operators in the field of maritime logistics; NIO Inc, a developer and manufacturer of intelligent electric vehicles and autonomous driving technologies; SAIC Motor, a Chinese automobile manufacturing corporation actively working in the direction of new energy sources and autonomous transport.

According to the manager MBA programs Vladimir Koptsev, Higher School of Business at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, international modules allow students not only to expand their professional horizons, but also to see key global economies in dynamics.

    Koptsev Vladimir Sergeevich

Head of the MBA program at the Higher School of Business, National Research University Higher School of Economics

Today, China is not just an important player, but one of the world’s leading economies, influencing global processes in business, finance and technology. It is fundamentally important for us that students are not limited to theory, but personally come into contact with this reality: through visits to companies, dialogue with experts and direct immersion in the country’s economic environment.

The reaction of the participants of the visiting module themselves is indicative; they saw from the inside how the economy of one of the largest and rapidly developing countries in the world functions, and what management models are used by business leaders of the PRC.

“Shanghai exceeded all expectations – it is a truly technologically advanced metropolis. I especially remember the lectures with Chinese professors about how the country became a global technological leader in 40 years. I was amazed by the number of electric cars – about 80% of cars on the roads, thanks to which the city of its size remains surprisingly quiet. A visit to a robotics company left a great impression. And, of course, it was nice to meet MBA students from parallel groups. I would like to separately thank the HSE Graduate School of Business for organizing the module at such a prestigious university as Fudan, and for the excellent organization of visits to leading Chinese enterprises. This trip will be remembered for a long time – a lot of new knowledge and vivid emotions!” – assessed the results Sergey Bespalov, Manager of Consulting in the field of production and operational management, Accenture AG, Zurich, Switzerland.

The Chinese partners highly appreciated the cooperation with the HSE Graduate School of Business: “We are sincerely glad that the students not only visited Fudan University, but also benefited from this intercultural exchange. I hope that our program opened up new perspectives for the students, contributed to the development of their communication skills and broadened their horizons. We tried to tell as much as possible about the economic and cultural characteristics of China and demonstrate them during visits to various companies. We hope to continue fruitful cooperation with the HSE Graduate School of Business in the future, so that we can host MBA students within the walls of our university more than once,” Shuang Zhang, Manager of International Programs at Fudan University.

Upon completion of the module, all students MBA programs received an official certificate from Fudan University confirming their participation and academic achievements.

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: Major investment partnership worth £24 billion to transform key growth sectors and deliver affordable housing across UK

Source: United Kingdom – Executive Government & Departments 3

    Press release

Major investment partnership worth £24 billion to transform key growth sectors and deliver affordable housing across UK

A major new partnership between the Crown Estate and Lendlease has been agreed which will unlock housing and science innovation hubs across the UK worth £24 billion.

    • Joint venture between The Crown Estate and Lendlease will unlock housing and science innovation hubs across the UK worth £24 billion.

    • Major investment pipeline includes land portfolio with the potential to build 26,000 new homes, with around one-third allocated to affordable housing – supporting the government’s aim to build 1.5 million new homes by 2029.

    • Pipeline also includes plans to build vast new office space and labs, creating 100,000 new jobs across the country, boosting economic growth and delivering on the Plan for Change.

Major new partnership from the Crown Estate and Lendlease with a Gross Development Value (GDV) of £24 billion will develop housing and science and innovation hubs and help create 100,000 new jobs and 26,000 new homes, backing the Government’s Plan for Change.

The joint venture allows The Crown Estate to invest in Lendlease’s undeveloped UK land and land management portfolio, providing support on existing projects, helping to transform the UK’s science, tech and innovation sectors and deliver new housing.

The projects have the potential to deliver around 10 million square feet of workspace and labs, and deliver vital investment in digital and technologies and the life sciences sectors – two of the key growth sectors in the government’s upcoming modern Industrial Strategy.

The pipeline is also hoped to deliver over 26,000 new homes for people across the country – of which a third are expected to be affordable housing – backing this Government’s plans to build 1.5 million new homes and get Britain building again as part of the Plan for Change.

In support of the partnership, the Chancellor and Minister for Investment met with Lendlease’s Group CEO Tony Lombardo and Dan Labbad, CEO of The Crown Estate in Downing Street

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said:

We are pulling every lever to grow our economy so we can put more money in people’s pockets, boost home ownership and make Britain a global hub for life sciences through our Plan for Change.

This includes creating the right environment for organisations like The Crown Estate and Lendlease to partner, helping us to unlock capital to get Britain building and get Britain growing.

Minister for Investment Baroness Gustafsson CBE said:

This is yet another strong endorsement of the UK’s investment environment and our thriving real estate sector as this government has committed to get Britain building again, a crucial part of delivering our Plan for Change.

This pipeline and the creation of additional research labs across the UK, will be a massive boost for our world-leading science, innovation and technology sectors, all key growth sectors in our upcoming modern Industrial Strategy.”

The government’s upcoming modern Industrial Strategy will make doing business quicker, easier and more profitable than ever before. Its 10-year plan will provide business with the certainty they need to invest and innovate in the growth-driving sectors that will shape the UK’s economy, drive regional development, enhance living standards and create high quality jobs.

Businesses have identified that inadequate infrastructure has impacted the growth of UK firms, with the UK suffering from a chronic lack of lab space compared to other leading global hubs, but this pipeline will ensure high-growth sectors have the lab space, transport and housing they need.

If the life sciences real estate markets of Cambridge, Oxford and London were to match their US counterparts by 2035, it could mean 67,000 more high-skilled, high-wage jobs and £4bn a year in additional GVA.

Areas poised for office and housing development include around Euston Station, Silvertown and Thamesmead Waterfront in London, as well as Smithfield in Birmingham.

The joint venture will provide a substantial boost to the UK’s thriving tech ecosystem, which is the third biggest in the world and worth more than £1 trillion.

Group CEO of Lendlease Tony Lombardo said:

This landmark partnership between our two organisations will combine our shared expertise in delivering city shaping precincts and creating long-term benefits for communities.

As master developer, we look forward to working with The Crown Estate to unlock value within our UK development portfolio, for partners, government clients and our securityholders.

Dan Labbad, Chief Executive of The Crown Estate, said:

With strong support from local and national government, we look forward to working with Lendlease and others to realise the potential of these projects to create jobs, stimulate growth and positively impact lives, while also generating income for the UK.

As a country, we face challenges to unlocking growth. To support this, we need to spark investment in sectors like science, technology, and housing, alongside deep collaboration across communities, government, and the private sector. This joint venture is an example of how The Crown Estate is harnessing its mandate to act in the UK’s long-term national interest, supported by new investment powers, and stepping up its ambition to support inclusive growth for the nation.”

Since entering office, the government has been focused on restoring economic stability – the foundation of growth – to give businesses the confidence to invest and expand in the UK. Today’s announcement demonstrates how confidence in the UK’s investment environment translates to real jobs and growth for local communities.

This major announcement comes due to the Crown Estate Act 2025 which increased The Crown Estate’s powers to unlock further investment, kickstarting growth and generating greater returns for the public purse whilst benefitting public services across the UK.

    Notes to editors:

    • The Crown Estate has a diverse £16 billion portfolio that includes urban centres and development opportunities; one of the largest rural holdings in the country; Regent Street and St James’s in London’s West End; and Windsor Great Park. They also manage the seabed and much of the coastline around England, Wales and Northern Ireland, playing a major role in the UK’s world leading offshore wind sector.

    • Lendlease is an integrated real estate group. Headquartered in Sydney, Australia, it is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. Its core capabilities are reflected in the operating segments of investments, development and construction, and providing a sustainable competitive advantage in delivering innovative integrated solutions for its customers.

Operation Sindoor Was A Remarkable Retaliation, Befitting Our Ethos Of Peace And Tranquility To The Barbarity That Happened At Pahalgam, Says VP
Vice-President Addressed The Annual Convocation Of Jaipuria Institute Of Management In New Delhi

The Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar today said, “Can we afford to empower countries that are inimical to our interests? Time has come when each one of us must deeply think about economic nationalism,” he said. He emphasized that, “We no longer can afford, by travel or import, to improve the economies of those countries because of our participation. And those countries, in times of crisis, are positioned against us.”

    https://twitter.com/VPIndia/status/1923650435002359975

Addressing the Annual Convocation of Jaipuria Institute of Management at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, today, Shri Dhankhar said, “Every individual is empowered to help the nation in security. Trade, business, commerce, and industry in particular can play a pivotal role in security issues. Therefore I firmly believe that we must always keep one thing in mind, and that is: Nation first. Everything has to be reckoned on the fulcrum of deep commitment, unflinching commitment, dedication to nationalism. And that mindset we must teach our toddlers right from day one.”

    https://twitter.com/VPIndia/status/1923643506263728383

He also lauded the ongoing Operation Sindoor and paid tribute to India’s Armed Forces. “I must, on this occasion—since I am addressing youth of the country in particular—offer my salutations to all Armed Forces and the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the remarkable success of the ongoing Operation Sindoor.”

Calling the operation a befitting response to the barbaric attack at Pahalgam, he added, “It was a remarkable retaliation, befitting our ethos of peace and tranquility to the barbarity that happened at Pahalgam—the deadliest attack on our civilians since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The Prime Minister of this country, Shri Narendra Modi, sent a message from India’s heartland of Bihar to the entire global fraternity. Those were not empty words. The world now has realized: what is said is reality. “No one is asking for proof now. The world has seen and acknowledged. We have seen this saga—how that country is deeply engrossed in terrorism. “When coffins are taken with armed forces and military power and political power accompanying them, justice is done by Bharat to Sindoor in sublimity.”

Shri Dhankhar affirmed that a new standard has been set in India’s counterterrorism efforts. “In the mechanics of war and the fight against terrorism, a new benchmark has been set. Indian Armed Forces targeted Jaish-e-Mohammed at Bahawalpur, deep inside Pakistan territory. Beyond the international border—headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed, also Lashkar-e-Taiba base, Muridke. No one is asking for proof now. No one is asking for it. The world has seen and acknowledged.”

He further added, “It is India’s deepest ever cross-border strike. Strike that was carefully, precisely calibrated to cause no damage except to the terrorist.”

Shri Dhankhar recalled the U.S. operation on May 2nd, 2011. “This happened on May 2nd, 2011, when a global terrorist who planned, supervised, executed the September 11 attack inside the US in 2001. He was dealt with by the US similarly. Bharat has done it and done it to the knowledge of the global community.”

Reflecting on India’s civilisational uniqueness, Shri Dhankhar noted, “We as a nation are unique. No nation in the world can take pride in having 5,000 years of civilisational ethos. We need to bridge, not breach, the divide between the East and the West.”

Shri Dhankhar said, “How can we countenance or overlook narratives that are anti-national? Foreign universities coming to this country is something which requires filtration. It requires deep thinking. It is something we have to be extremely careful about.”

On education and research, the Vice-President cautioned against commercialization. “This country cannot afford commercialisation and commodification of education. It is undeniable, it is present. Education and health as per our civilization ethos are not areas to make money. These are areas to give back to society. We have to discharge our obligation to society.”

Calling upon industry leaders, he stressed the importance of research. “Educational institutions must be fully funded by corporates. CSR funds must take priority because investment in research is fundamental.”

He concluded with a powerful reminder: “Gone are the days when we could wait for others to develop technology. If we do that, we are handicapped right from the beginning, we must avoid that.”

Shri Sharad Jaipuria, Chairman, Board of Governors, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Smt. Anjali Jaipuria, Spouse of Chairman, Board of Governors, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Shri Shreevats Jaipuria, Vice Chairman, Jaipuria Institute of Management and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Science and education in the prism of agro-industrial complex: State University of Management and Holding Company Elinar signed a cooperation agreement

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: State University of Management – Official website of the State –

On May 19, 2025, a ceremonial signing of an agreement on cooperation in the field of higher education and science was held between the State University of Management and JSC Holding Company Elinar.

On behalf of the State University of Management, the agreement was signed by Rector Vladimir Stroyev, and on behalf of Elinar, by General Director Igor Kuimov.

After signing the agreement, the high-ranking guest admitted that in 1985 he took advanced training courses at the State University of Management, which later helped him a lot. The year was a turning point, when many scientific discussions were held about the path the Soviet Union’s economy should take.

Vladimir Stroyev recalled that at that time, the Center for Business Games was functioning at the State University of Management, where many successful entrepreneurs and managers came from. And graduates of those years have not forgotten their native university to this day – on Fridays they gathered for an evening meeting at the initiative of Vasily Golubev, Member of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs.

Continuing the theme of turning points, Vladimir Vitalyevich noted that during the restructuring of the education system in the 1990s, the State University of Management managed to preserve elements of the Soviet system focused on management in the industrial sectors. And today, when higher education and science are being reformed again, the State University of Management is doing everything to quickly restore clear connections with various sectors of the economy.

“Modern graduates are very ambitious and will definitely become managers. But without an industry base, it will be difficult for them to meet the demands of the time. In addition, they have a new clip-based thinking that quickly switches between tasks. Accordingly, educational programs need to be rebuilt for this perception. The cooperation of our university with large manufacturers will help them become truly skilled and competent managers. Therefore, I am glad that we have started contacting you and signed this agreement,” Vladimir Stroyev addressed Igor Kuimov.

After the official part, representatives of GUU and Elinar went to discuss working proposals. Vice-Rector Dmitry Bryukhanov headed the section on education, Vice-Rector Maria Karelina – the section on science.

This sophisticated background process ensures you always experience optimal performance without needing to manually adjust settings as you change locations.

Advanced Security Measures: The device employs WPA2 encryption, a widely accepted and highly secure encryption protocol, to safeguard users’ online activities and prevent unauthorized network access. Additionally, the Ryoko Pro features a built-in firewall that blocks malicious traffic and prevents hackers from accessing your device.

Global Coverage Without Boundaries: Perhaps, the most revolutionary aspect of Ryoko Pro is its expansive global coverage network spanning more than 100 countries. Through strategic partnerships with leading telecommunications providers worldwide, Ryoko delivers truly borderless connectivity. The device automatically detects and connects to local networks as you travel, eliminating the need for different SIM cards or complicated international plans.

This global coverage comes without the traditional burden of roaming fees or country-specific limitations. Users can further customize security settings through the intuitive management interface, including guest network creation with limited access permissions.

The app’s clean interface allows users to monitor data usage, manage connected devices, adjust security settings, and receive notifications about system performance without technical complexity.

Flexible Usage Plans: Understanding that connectivity needs vary widely between users, Ryoko Pro offers flexible data plans without contractual obligations. Users can select from pay-as-you-go options ideal for occasional travelers, monthly recurring plans for regular users, or customized enterprise solutions for business teams.

The transparency in pricing structure eliminates surprising charges, with clear data allocation and straightforward renewal processes. Unused data on certain plans rolls over to the following month, ensuring customers receive maximum value from their investment. Additionally, the accompanying app provides real-time data usage statistics and customizable alerts when approaching predetermined thresholds, putting users in complete control of their connectivity expenses.

Through this comprehensive feature set, Ryoko Pro addresses virtually every pain point in the portable connectivity landscape, delivering a solution that adapts to users’ needs rather than forcing users to adapt to technological limitations.

    Benefits Of Ryoko Pro

Ryoko Pro delivers substantial benefits that extend far beyond basic internet connectivity, fundamentally transforming how users interact with the digital world while traveling or working remotely.

    Unprecedented Freedom and Flexibility

The most immediate benefit of Ryoko Pro is the liberation from geographical connectivity constraints. Users experience unprecedented freedom to work, communicate, and consume content from virtually anywhere without sacrificing connection quality. This location independence empowers professionals to redefine their workplace boundaries, enables travelers to maintain productivity during transit, and allows digital nomads to establish operations from remote or exotic locations without connectivity concerns.

The absence of contracts creates financial flexibility previously unavailable in the connectivity market. Users can adjust their plans based on changing travel schedules or usage requirements without incurring penalties or navigating complicated cancellation procedures. This pay-for-what-you-need approach eliminates wasteful spending on unused services during periods of lower mobility.

    Enhanced Productivity and Reliability

Productivity receives a significant boost through consistent, reliable internet access regardless of location. The frustration and time wastage associated with hunting for public WiFi, dealing with spotty hotel connections, or configuring different connectivity solutions for each destination are eliminated. This connectivity continuity maintains workflow momentum and ensures deadline-sensitive projects remain on track even during intensive travel periods.

The multi-device capability transforms Ryoko Pro into a mobile office hub, allowing simultaneous connection of laptops, tablets, smartphones, and other IoT devices. Team members traveling together can share a single connection while maintaining individual productivity, and families can keep multiple devices connected without competing for bandwidth or accumulating charges across separate devices.

    Financial Advantages Through Smart Design

Significant financial benefits emerge through the elimination of international roaming charges, which can quickly accumulate to hundreds or even thousands of dollars during global travel. Ryoko Pro predictable pricing structure protects users from bill shock while maintaining premium connectivity quality.

For businesses, Ryoko Pro represents an excellent return on investment by eliminating productivity losses caused by connectivity issues during business travel. The ability to maintain seamless communication with clients, access cloud-based resources, and participate in virtual meetings from any location directly impacts revenue generation and operational efficiency.

    Security and Peace of Mind

Perhaps the most valuable yet intangible benefit is the peace of mind that comes from securing your digital activities. Public WiFi networks represent significant security vulnerabilities, potentially exposing sensitive data to malicious actors. Ryoko Pro creates a secure, private connection that protects confidential communications, financial transactions, and proprietary information while working in public spaces, substantially reducing cybersecurity risks associated with mobile work.

While activating your smartphone’s hotspot function dramatically accelerates battery depletion, Ryoko optimized power management, delivers 8 hours of continuous connectivity without impacting your primary communication device’s availability.

The multi-device capability creates exceptional value, supporting up to 10 simultaneous connections without performance degradation. This transforms the Ryoko Pro from an individual solution to a comprehensive connectivity hub for families, small teams, or multi-device users.

    News story

New rules to end Buy-Now, Pay-Later wild-west, protect millions of shoppers and drive growth

Over 10 million people who use Buy-Now, Pay-Later (BNPL) products will gain stronger rights and clearer protections under new rules – stopping unaffordable borrowing and helping families keep more of their money.

    • Millions of Buy-Now, Pay-Later shoppers to gain stronger rights and clearer information – in line with other types of credit ending the ‘wild west’ of unregulated borrowing.

    • New rules include affordability checks to stop people racking up unaffordable debt, and faster access to refunds to protect working people as part of the Plan for Change.

    • Comes alongside reforms to the 50-year-old Consumer Credit Act to deliver a modern, pro-growth framework that reflects how people borrow today.

From next year, BNPL firms will need to follow consistent standards — so shoppers will know exactly what they’re signing up to when they opt to break up payments, whether they can afford it, and how to get help when things go wrong.

That means upfront checks to make sure people can repay what they borrow, fairer and faster access to refunds, and the right to complain to the Financial Ombudsman — bringing BNPL in line with other credit products.

BNPL is a useful tool when used responsibly to help people manage their finances and has grown rapidly with an extra 2 million people using the product since 2022.

The changes will boost consumer confidence while giving firms the certainty they need to innovate, grow and invest — delivering on the government’s Plan for Change to grow the economy, unlock investment, create jobs and put more money into people’s pockets.

Emma Reynolds, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, said:

Buy-Now, Pay-Later has transformed shopping for millions, but for too long has operated as a wild west – leaving consumers exposed.

These new rules will protect shoppers from debt traps and give the sector the certainty it needs to invest, grow, and create jobs through our Plan for Change.

The announcement is backed by brand new reforms to the Consumer Credit Act — which will replace a 50-year-old regime with a modern, pro-growth framework that reflects how people borrow today.

Outdated and confusing rules will be removed, with oversight shifting to the FCA’s more flexible system — cutting unnecessary burdens on business while strengthening protections for consumers.

    Further information

    • The government is today publishing the response to the consultation on BNPL first announced in October 2024 and has confirmed that the legislation bringing BNPL into regulation will be laid in Parliament on 19 May.

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: Childminding Recruitment Campaign

Source: Scotland – City of Dundee

A call is going out for Dundee people to consider taking up a career in childminding.

The City Council is supporting the Scottish Childminding Association’s (SCMA) recruitment campaign, which a senior councillor calls an “investment in the future of the city”.

Advantages of flexible employability opportunities for local people to work from their own home, as well as the potential growth of childcare options for city families are being highlighted as benefits.

Funded training and support would be provided to successful applicants, who will also be able to access employability and Business Gateway support throughout the programme and into their self-employment journey.

Fair Work, Economic Growth and Infrastructure convener Cllr Steven Rome said: “We are acutely aware in the drop of the number of childminders across Scotland, which is reflected in our city.

“I think that this campaign will provide an investment in the future of the city, for those who set up childminding businesses and for the children and families themselves.”

Children, Families and Communities convener Cllr Stewart Hunter added: “We fully support this SCMA campaign which will help develop flexible and exciting employment opportunities for local people.

“It will also help provide more childcare options for families to allow them to take on more training or employment themselves.”

The campaign features Dundee childminder Elaine Bruce, who runs Elaine’s Amazing Spaces

Elaine worked in child education for 38 years and previously worked in a senior position in a nursery. She realised she could be a professional childminder, working from home with small numbers of children.

She said: “I’d thoroughly recommend childminding as a career. If you’ve got a passion for working with children, the opportunity is there to make a really great business.”

“I felt really supported by SCMA, particularly throughout the process of registration. I thought the one-to-one support available from SCMA was invaluable. Any problem or question, no matter how small, I received help so quickly. It’s really reassuring to have experts in childminding to refer to.”

Elaine explains that childminding brings great benefits for the children who take part.

“With smaller numbers involved in childminding, there’s lots of opportunity for the younger ones to learn together to share and play in wee groups. It’s an important part of learning – things like waiting their turn – and I believe being around children that aren’t their siblings is important.”

A dedicated SCMA Workforce Officer is assigned to each candidate to provide expert, one-to-one support through the process of registration with the Care Inspectorate. Personalisation of the process is integral to the progression of candidates, ensuring they feel fully informed about their future career in childminding, and means they are less likely to drop out.

Childminders provide high-quality childcare from their home that is nurturing and safe and also provides the flexibility for childminders and their ‘mindees’ to ‘get out and about so that children have chances to learn from real life experiences.

As with other childcare providers such as nurseries, childminders are guided by the Curriculum for Excellence and are required to follow the values and principles of the ‘Getting It Right for Every Child’ (GIRFEC) framework, which supports the health and wellbeing of children.

Graeme McAlister, Chief Executive, Scottish Childminding Association, said: “Childminding is a vital community asset providing local flexible childcare and family support which is so important in remote and rural communities.  The Programme for Scotland’s Childminding Future is an important step towards addressing the urgent demand for high-quality childcare from parents and carers and recruiting childminders in areas where they are most needed. This is a fantastic opportunity for those living in these areas to access a wealth of support in setting up their own sustainable childminding business and to undertake a rewarding new career.”

  • FTA likely to double India’s apparel, textile exports to UK: Report

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

India’s apparel and home textiles exports to the UK are expected to double from the current levels in the next 5-6 years, with the bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) scheduled to become operational in calendar year 2026, according to an ICRA report.

Currently, Indian textile exports to the UK face 8-12 per cent duties, but with 99 per cent of goods, including textiles, gaining zero-duty access under the FTA, India will achieve parity with competitors like Bangladesh, Vietnam and Pakistan, the report states.

China leads UK textile imports with a 25 per cent market share, closely followed by Bangladesh, which has a 22 per cent share. Turkey and Pakistan, with 8 per cent and 6.8 per cent share respectively, are the other major exporters. The FTA will enable India’s textile exports to become more competitive in the UK, leading to an increase in market share.

India is currently the 12th largest trading partner of the UK and ranks fifth in apparel and home textiles imports, with $1.4 billion worth of exports in 2024, which constitutes a 6.6 per cent share of the UK’s textile imports.

While the US and EU remain dominant markets with a 61 per cent share in 2024, the UK’s share is expected to rise to 11-12 per cent by 2027, reflecting an 11 per cent compound annual rate of growth (CAGR).

The bilateral trade deal, finalised on May 6, after three years of negotiations, will provide concessional or zero-duty access on select goods, boosting trade volumes and earnings.

India’s Textile and Apparel exports have continued their upward trajectory, recording a growth of 7.45 per cent in April 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year. This positive trend was primarily driven by the strong performance of the apparel segment, which registered a robust 14.43 per cent growth year-on-year, an analysis of the data released by the Ministry of Commerce showed.

“The current growth of 14.43 per cent in apparel exports seems to be mainly driven by increased shipments to the United States, following the announcement of reciprocal tariff measures by the US administration,” Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) chairman Rakesh Mehra said.

  • MIL-OSI: Zappify Reviews: Don’t Waste Your Money On Zappify 2.0 Till You’ve Read This!

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

NEWARK, N.J., May 19, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Each year, mosquito-borne diseases kill more than 700,000 people worldwide, making the tiny-looking insect the deadliest animal on Earth. Malaria alone accounts for nearly 600,000 of those deaths, with an estimated 597,000 malaria-related fatalities in 2023 despite intensified control efforts. Dengue fever is not far behind, infecting over 390 million people annually and causing approximately 21,000 deaths each year.

Beyond these two, mosquitoes also transmit Zika, chikungunya, yellow fever, and other pathogens, placing over half of the world’s population at risk of at least one mosquito-borne disease. In 2024 alone, more than 7.6 million dengue cases have already been reported, highlighting how critical effective protection is in both urban and rural settings. Even as global malaria cases hit 249 million in 2022, resulting in 608,000 deaths, the need for transformative, chemical-free solutions has never been clearer.

What Are The Unique Characteristics of Zappify (Zappify Reviews)

    • 30 m² 360° Coverage Zone: Zappify’s refined cylindrical design projects its electrified grid in a full 360° arc, creating an insect‐free perimeter up to 30 square meters—three times the range of its first model. Internally, the device holds optimally spaced stainless‐steel electrodes that support uniform voltage across the entire surface. This guarantees that any mosquito entering the marked zone is attracted and neutralized, whether the unit sits on a tabletop corner or in the center of your balcony.
    • 13-Hour Rechargeable Battery Pack: Fundamentally, Zappify contains a high‐capacity lithium‐ion battery that lasts for 13 hours of continuous operation. The battery cells are installed in a rugged, IPX5‐rated housing to withstand outdoor moisture, while an improved charging circuit regulates current for safe, effective recharges via USB-C. This extended autonomy lets you utilize the unit overnight or throughout day long outdoor activities.
    • 2,000-Volt Electric Elimination Grid: Zappify’s advanced zapper grid provided a high‐voltage pulse of 2,000 volts, over three times the power of the earlier generation, through its corrosion‐resistant electrodes. The grid’s mesh spacing is accurately calibrated to admit even the smallest mosquitoes while eliminating accidental contact by fingers or pets. When an insect enters the space, the intense discharge instantly terminates it, converting electrical energy into a quick, clean arc.
    • Portable and Compact: Zappify is lightweight and compact, making it easy to take with you wherever you go. It easily fits in your bag, as you head out this summer. You can use it at the park, patio, ball game, or wherever you want for maximum mosquito relief. It’s perfect for any activities you don’t want mosquitoes to ruin!
    • Three-Band UV Light Attraction System: Replacing the single‐wavelength bulb of its predecessor, Zappify uses a tri‐band UV lamp that emits three distinct ultraviolet frequencies proven to attract a broader spectrum of mosquito species. Each band is tuned to specific insect photoreceptors, optimizing attraction efficacy by up to 300%. Enclosed within a secured quartz sleeve, the UV modules are rated for long-term stability, ensuring consistent output over hundreds of work hours.
    • Integrated 12-LED Ultra-Bright Lantern: Beyond its bug‐zapping capabilities, Zappify has an array of 12 high-intensity LEDs around its base, serving as a multi-purpose lantern. Each LED is selected for enhanced luminosity and energy efficiency, delivering ambient illumination for campsites, balconies, or interior spaces. The LEDs are calibrated with the unit’s power management system to draw minimal current, ensuring the lighting feature can run concurrently impacting overall battery life.
    • Precision Battery Life Indicator: To keep users informed, Zappify features a digital battery‐life indicator panel installed in it. Three LED segments display the remaining charge in real time, and a single button press provides an instant status update. The indicator circuit blends with the device’s charge controller to adapt to any temperature and load, providing a precise estimate of remaining operational time, removing any guesswork, and ensuring you know accurately when to recharge.
    • Weatherproof: Zappify has an IPX5 waterproof rating that makes it compatible with outdoor use. The anti-bug lamp is designed to withstand weather conditions, including rain, intense heat, wind, and extreme weather. As a result, it can function appropriately in outdoor environments without being damaged. Moreover, it’s durable and practical as it can work in damp conditions. In addition, it’s convenient as it doesn’t require additional protection or maintenance.
    • Noiseless Operation: Zappify’s noteworthy and defining feature is its ability to operate quietly. In contrast to other portable gadgets of its sort, the Zappify runs silently, which is great because it means you won’t have to put up with excessive noise.
    • Chemicals-free: The Zappify sets itself apart from traditional insecticides and mosquito zappers, which include a number of chemicals or other substances that are exceedingly dangerous to human health. Zappify 2.0 kills insects without the use of harmful chemicals. It is a third-generation device that attracts and zaps insects or pests using UV light energy.
    • Handy Hanging Loop: Zappify comes with a handy hanging loop that makes it easy to hang anywhere you need it. You can hang it in your backyard, on your patio, or even in your tent. It is an ideal camping or outdoor accessory for any summer adventure.

All rental properties must also comply with the healthy homes standards by 1 July 2025. Landlords are responsible for ensuring their properties meet the healthy homes standards and continue to do so over time. All new tenancies from 1 July must comply with the standards immediately.

“This visit is an opportunity to change the perception that living in a run-down student flat is a ‘rite of passage’ and just part of university life. We want to make it clear to landlords what their responsibilities are and what the consequences of non-compliance are,” Clare Lyons-Montgomery said.

“MBIE regularly engages with student associations, including those at the University of Otago. This visit is another opportunity to encourage them to speak with their landlords about issues in their rental homes and then if they cannot resolve issues between themselves they can speak with us.”

Otago University Students Association (OUSA) President Liam White say many Otago students are forced to live in cold, old, and mouldy flats and their landlords must be held to account.

“We’re proud to support MBIE’s flat inspections and hope to send a clear message: if you rent a flat, you must meet legal standards or face the consequences,” Liam White said.

“Students often tell us they hesitate to raise issues with landlords or property managers out of fear — fear of jeopardising future references or creating more problems for themselves. Even when they do speak up, many face radio silence or endless delays.

“Otago students deserve better. Warm, healthy homes aren’t optional — they’re the legal minimum. We back every move to ensure these standards are enforced, and through OUSA Student Support, we continue to empower students with advice, advocacy, and education across the academic year,” Liam White said.

If a tenant thinks the property they are renting is not up to standard they should speak to their landlord. If they are still not satisfied they should put their concerns in writing to the landlord giving them a reasonable time to fix any problems, or issue a 14-day notice to their landlord.

If the landlord still doesn’t fix the issue or satisfy the tenants’ concerns they can make a complaint on the Tenancy Services website or apply to the Tenancy Tribunal to make a decision on the dispute.

MBIE’s Tenancy Services website provides information and tools to assist tenants and landlords understand their rights and responsibilities at every stage of their tenancy.

  • MIL-Evening Report: An online travel company just collapsed. Here’s how to avoid being left stranded by an online deal

Source: The Conversation (Au and NZ) – By Madalyn Scerri, Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality, Torrens University Australia

    Viacheslav Lopatin/Shutterstock

Traveldream.com.au sold discounted holidays – curated hiking tours, boutique cruises and cultural getaways through a slick website and polished social media ads. But news emerged last week that the Melbourne-based travel company has collapsed into administration, leaving customers out of pocket by thousands of dollars, and in some cases, stranded overseas.

What many didn’t know was that Traveldream hadn’t been formally accredited with the leading industry body since 2020. Its status under the Australian Travel Accreditation Scheme, run by the Australian Travel Industry Association, had been cancelled.

To make matters worse, most travel insurance policies don’t cover insolvency, meaning many customers have no way to recover their losses.

Australians are expected to spend over A$2 billion booking holidays online in 2024–25.

Big name platforms such as Booking.com and Expedia account for about 60% of this activity. But many travellers are also turning to smaller or lesser-known providers offering flashy deals and lower prices, often with fewer safeguards.

So, how can you protect yourself? Start with these five checks.

    1. Don’t be swayed by slick websites or social media ads

It’s a common tactic, and one that’s hard to resist. You’re scrolling, you see a dreamy image, the price is tempting, and suddenly you’re halfway through checkout.

But a polished ad doesn’t guarantee legitimacy.

Travel-related scams are on the rise, especially involving online-only sellers.

Ads on social media for idyllic vacations can be tempting, but check the fine print.
    Song_about_summer/Shutterstock

Check for a verifiable business address, phone number and customer support. If the deal feels vague, under-priced or overly urgent, that’s a red flag.

Look for independent reviews (on Trustpilot, Tripadvisor or Google), and check Scamwatch for known issues.

    2. Look at how the company engages with customers

A company’s reputation isn’t just about what it promises: it’s built on how it responds to questions and complaints. Before booking, take a moment to see how the business interacts with customers online.

Do they reply constructively to complaints? Do they offer updates or explanations when issues arise?

Also notice the tone. Does it feel human and responsive, or generic and hands-off? That can suggest how they’ll treat you after the sale.

Small signs can speak volumes. A page with thousands of followers but no visible engagement may indicate a paid audience – and a company that vanishes when things get difficult.

    3. Check if the company is accredited

Another way to assess a travel company’s credibility is to check if it holds formal accreditation. This signals the company has met standards in financial security, customer service and dispute resolution.

Search the Australian Travel Accreditation Scheme register at https://www.atas.com.au, or look for Quality Tourism Accreditation. For overseas providers, check for recognised local schemes.

Accreditation offers extra reassurance, but it’s not the whole picture. Some large, reputable companies, such as Expedia, operate without it. If a company isn’t accredited, proceed with caution and focus on how bookings and payments are handled.

    4. Scrutinise policies carefully

Before booking, check what happens if the provider goes bust, whether you can cancel or reschedule, and how your booking will be confirmed. Where possible, follow up directly with the hotel, airline or tour operator to make sure reservations are secured.

Booking directly with a hotel or tour provider can ensure you are getting up-to-date availability.
    Media_Photos/Shutterstock

It’s also important to understand what travel insurance does – and doesn’t – cover.

Company insolvency is one of the most common exclusions. Unless a policy includes “end supplier failure” or a similar clause (most don’t), you may not be able to claim a refund. Always read the Product Disclosure Statement to check exactly where you stand.

Another safeguard is to pay with protection in mind. Although conditions vary by provider, credit cards may offer chargebacks if the goods or services aren’t delivered.

    5. Book direct where feasible

While accredited travel agencies can be helpful for complex itineraries, like overseas trips with multiple stops or bundled services, it’s often worth booking directly with the provider when making travel arrangements online, whether that’s a hotel, airline or tour company.

Cutting out the intermediary can offer better value, including complimentary extras, flexible cancellation and full access to loyalty programs.

Direct bookings usually reflect real-time availability and pricing, reducing the risk of outdated information. You’ll benefit from direct communication and confirmation, making it easier to customise or resolve issues.

If something goes wrong, there’s also greater clarity about who’s responsible – offering stronger recourse under Australian Consumer Law.

    The bottom line?

As more Australians book holidays online, it’s becoming harder to tell what’s trustworthy and what could leave you out of pocket.

Traveldream’s collapse is a reminder. Even in the world of digital travel deals, it pays to ask: is this company built to last, not just until your trip departs, but until you return home?

  • MIL-Evening Report: Ambition is not a dirty word: female politicians and the ‘Lady Macbeth bias’

Source: The Conversation (Au and NZ) – By Professor Rebekah Russell-Bennett, Associate Dean Research, Faculty of Business, Government and Law, University of Canberra

When the new parliament convenes after the recent election, it will feature a rarity in Australian politics. Women will lead two significant political parties at the same time: the Liberal Party’s Sussan Ley and the Greens’ Larissa Waters.

When female political leaders show ambition, they are often portrayed in the media as grasping, selfish and power-seeking. In other words, they are the embodiment of Shakespeare’s Lady Macbeth.

The recent negative media coverage of Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s move to the Liberal Party was reminiscent of the depiction of Julia Gillard when she became Labor leader. Price’s ambition reportedly made her selfish, while Gillard’s ambition was framed as a “moral wrong”.

The pervasive misrepresentation of female politicians who display ambition can be thought of as “the Lady Macbeth bias”. This negative framing of ambition associates female politicians with ruthlessness and power at any cost. The prejudice reflects the central character theme in Shakespeare’s tragic play, Macbeth, of a woman whose scheming was her undoing.

Lady Macbeth’s ambition is depicted as morally suspect and unnatural. This ambition leads to her demise.

    Highly gendered ambition

With two new women leaders rising to the top and a record number of new female politicians in the 48th parliament, how will they be portrayed as their ambition plays out?

The media representation of women who aspire to leadership typically depicts female ambition as a negative. This is a distraction from any objective criticism of the person. This kind of gendered approach to female politicians could be a deterrent for women who have political aspirations.

There is a significant evidence base in academic literature that demonstrates ambition is a social construct that is highly gendered. Women politicians who show ambition are seen as unrelatable and unfeminine, while ambitious male politicians are described as visionary or strong.

Take, for example, this recent article on Paul Keating, whose ambition is lauded, making him a “rare leader”. Let us not forgot that Keating became prime minister by challenging Bob Hawke.

Compare the praise of Keating to the demonising of Gillard, who also challenged a sitting prime minister (Kevin Rudd) and you will see the opposite commentary. Ambition featured strongly in analysis of Gillard’s rise to power. Instead of praise for her ambition, she was often vilified, with her morality called into question.

Rudd’s comment to her in 2010 typifies this perspective: “Julia, you’re a good person, why are you doing this?”

    The double bind

So what is the outcome of this negative media portrayal of women in politics?

Female politicians with ambition are perceived as less likeable and take a hit in popularity and electoral success. This phenomena has been termed the double bind, which is a paradox experienced by women leaders. To be viewed as competent, they need to display traits typically associated with men, such as ambition, competitiveness and drive. However, when they do, this in turn makes them appear not feminine enough.

The result of this violation of gender stereotypes ranges from negative perceptions to backlash. Women can be overlooked for roles, receive less money and in the case of politics, face electoral retaliation.

So like Lady Macbeth, ambitious leaders are punished for defying the natural order of femininity. A lose-lose situation.

    Normalise female ambition

So what should be done? First the media need to take responsibility for the language used in headlines and stories about female politicians. A more androgynous approach to reporting on political leaders would go a long way to addressing this problem.

Second, we the public need to decry the use of overused stereotypes in media coverage, such as the Lady Macbeth tropes, when our female leaders are critiqued. While politicians should be held to high standards of accountability, transparency and ethics, a gendered approach undermines this scrutiny and weakens our democratic system.

Finally, we can limit “the Lady Macbeth bias” by showcasing ambitious female politicians across the political spectrum. When we normalise ambition in women, we break the association between ambition and masculinity. It is time to decouple leadership qualities from gendered stereotypes, not just for current female politicians but for the girls who are our future politicians.

    Shifting perceptions

The Lady Macbeth theme of ambitious women being unnatural, morally bankrupt, ruthless and manipulative is a serious misrepresentation of female politicians.

This negative portrayal is a barrier to women entering politics. Or surviving in politics.

Politicians such as Ley, Waters and Price should be held to account, but not on gendered terms. We must stop treating female politicians as Lady Macbeth. If we do not, gender inequality in politics will prevail.

That would be a sad future for all Australians.

Rebekah Russell-Bennett is affiliated with the Liberal party

  • MIL-OSI USA: CPSC Sets New Record for Safety Notices, Protecting American Families and Leveling the Playing Field for American Business

Source: US Consumer Product Safety Commission

    Release Date: May 15, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued 28 separate product safety recalls and warnings.  This is a new agency record and more than double the agency’s previous weekly high for safety warnings.
Nearly all the recalls and warnings issued this week involve products manufactured in the People’s Republic of China.  They include results from CPSC’s first-of-its-kind enforcement sweep of off-brand Chinese faucets found to leach lead and other contaminates into U.S. drinking water.  Additional action is expected in the coming weeks.
Since President Trump’s inauguration, CPSC has renewed its focus on its core mission: protecting American families.  This change in course – ending wasteful DEI initiatives and cancelling overseas trainings that advance Chinese interests, for example – is making Americans safer.
“CPSC remains hard at work to protect consumers,” said Acting Chairman Peter Feldman.  “We will always put Americans first.”
“This record-breaking week shows what a focused CPSC can do,” said Commissioner Douglas Dziak.  “We’re cracking down on foreign violators and delivering real safety results for American families.”
Some advocacy groups have claimed, wrongly, that the agency’s statute prevents CPSC from warning the public quickly about dangerous products.  This week’s activity demonstrates that the Commission will not hesitate to warn Americans about dangerous products, particularly in cases involving foreign firms that are unreachable when problems arise.

  • MIL-OSI USA: CPSC Warns Consumers to Immediately Stop Using Certain Chinese-Made Faucets Sold on Amazon.com Due to Dangerous Lead Exposure for Infants, Young Children and Pregnant Women

Source: US Consumer Product Safety Commission

    Release Date: May 15, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to stop using certain bathroom and kitchen faucets sold on Amazon.com that can leach lead into drinking water. Lead ingestion can cause harmful neurological effects on infants, young children, and pregnant women, including attention-related behavioral problems, decreased cognitive performance and lower IQ. CPSC advises to stop using and dispose of these faucets immediately.
These warnings follow a CPSC enforcement sweep targeting dangerous faucets manufactured in China.  None of the Chinese firms has agreed to conduct an acceptable recall. Earlier this week, CPSC issued a public health and safety finding to expedite public warnings about these faucets because individuals may be in danger from these product hazards.
Consumers should immediately stop using the following faucets, which were tested and found to contain lead that can leach into water at levels that can be particularly harmful to infants, young children and pregnant women:

“CPSC is taking extraordinary steps to protect Americans from toxic faucets that threaten our children,” said CPSC Acting Chairman Peter Feldman. “This Commission will not hesitate to warn Americans when necessary. CPSC remains focused on the biggest threat to American consumers: hazardous goods from China.”
The faucets were sold online at Amazon.com for between $30 and $70. Many of these faucets lack branding or other source-identifying labels, and lack safety certifications. Check your Amazon online orders to see if you purchased these faucets.
CPSC urges consumers to immediately stop using and dispose of these faucets. If consumers need to use these faucets until they can be replaced, make sure to run the water 15 seconds before consuming.
In addition, consumers can do the following:

Look for faucets that comply with NSF/ANSI Standard 61, which sets the criteria for product safety, including maximum allowable levels of lead and other contaminants.
As a routine practice, flush faucets for 15 seconds first thing in the morning, again at the end of the day, or anytime the water hasn’t run for six hours or more. Running the water gives it less time to come into contact with any lead that may be in the plumbing system.
Use only cold water for drinking, cooking and preparing baby formula. Boiling water does not remove lead from water.
Regularly clean or replace your faucet’s screen (also known as an aerator) to remove sediment and particles, particularly when using the water for drinking or cooking.
Call your local health department or water company to inquire about testing your water, or visit epa.gov/safewater for information on lead in drinking water.

  • MIL-OSI USA: California invests $1.7 billion to improve safety, resiliency of highways – including millions for highways damaged by LA fires

What you need to know: The state is investing almost $1.7 billion for improvements to California’s highway system, including $86.5 million for improvements to infrastructure damaged during the Los Angeles firestorms earlier this year.

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that the California Transportation Commission (CTC) has allocated nearly $1.7 billion to help improve and strengthen the state highway system. Guided by Governor Gavin Newsom’s Build More, Faster – For All infrastructure agenda, these improvements will make California communities safer and more climate resilient.

In addition to these proactive, long-range efforts, the CTC allocated $86.5 million to repair vital roadways and other transportation infrastructure damaged during recent wildfires and storms in Southern California.

“Today’s monumental investment puts Californians’ tax dollars to work making critical safety and resiliency improvements to highways throughout the state that support the travel of millions of residents each day. We’re also directing millions to help repair vital infrastructure damaged by the Los Angeles fires.”

    Governor Gavin Newsom

    Projects include:

    • $195.5 million to rehabilitate roadway and drainage systems, add a bike trail and pedestrian bridge, as well as upgrade safety along Interstate 805 in the cities of San Diego, Chula Vista and National City.
    • $129 million to replace the existing Cordelia Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility along westbound Interstate 80 near Fairfield.
    • $30 million to replace a retaining wall and rebuild a slope drapery protection system near Big Rock Road in Malibu and reconstruct hillsides above State Route 1 near Mulholland Drive, all of which were impacted by the Palisades Fire and rainstorms.

“Investments made today support Caltrans’ mission to build and maintain a transportation system that helps Californians now and decades into the future,” said Mike Keever, Acting Director for Caltrans. “This funding translates into safer travel, more accessible mobility options and strengthening our roadways to protect all travelers during extreme weather events.”

Of the total allocation this month, $655 million came via Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and nearly $567 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA).

IIJA, also known as the federal bipartisan infrastructure bill, is a once-in-a-generation investment in our nation’s infrastructure to improve the sustainability and resiliency of our country’s energy, water, broadband and transportation systems. California has received nearly $62 billion in federal infrastructure funding since its passage, including investments to upgrade the state’s roads, bridges, rail, public transit, airports, ports and waterways. The funding alone has already created more than 170,000 jobs in California.

Meanwhile, SB 1 invests approximately $5 billion annually toward transportation projects. It provides funding split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
