An all-party Indian parliamentary delegation, led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, arrived in Madrid on Sunday as part of an ongoing diplomatic effort to present India’s uncompromising stance on terrorism.

The delegation will engage with officials from the Spanish government, members of the Indian diaspora, and civil society representatives during its two-day visit. The outreach is part of a broader campaign to reinforce India’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism, especially in the context of cross-border threats.

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Spain said, “The All-Party Parliamentary Delegation, led by MP Ms. @kanimozhidmk and comprising members @RajeevRai, @CaptBrijesh, @GUPTAPC50 and @DrAshokKMittal, arrived in Madrid today. Over the next two days, the delegation will meet with members of the Spanish government, the Indian diaspora and civil society representatives to present India’s stance of #ZeroToleranceForTerrorism.”

The delegation includes Samajwadi Party MP Rajeev Rai, BJP MP Captain Brijesh Chowta (Retd.), RJD MP Prem Chand Gupta, AAP MP Ashok Kumar Mittal, and former Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the UN, Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri.

Prior to arriving in Spain, the delegation visited Latvia, where it met with key members of the Latvian Parliament, including Ingrida Circene, Chairperson of the Group for Promoting Cooperation with the Parliament on India, and Inara Murniece, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee. The discussions focused on India’s security concerns and its determination to respond firmly to any act of terrorism, particularly those emanating from Pakistan.

Ashok Mittal shared details of the Latvia visit on X, stating, “We conveyed India’s unified and unwavering stance of zero tolerance towards terrorism.”

The delegation also held talks with Latvian State Secretary Andzejs Vilumson and Ambassador Andrejs Pildegovics, Special Envoy for Latvia’s United Nations Security Council (UNSC) candidacy. The Indian side shared information on the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which Latvia strongly condemned.

Vilumson reiterated Latvia’s categorical opposition to terrorism in all its forms and expressed solidarity with India following the Pahalgam incident in April.

The visit to Spain follows similar diplomatic engagements in Latvia, Greece, Slovenia, and Russia. These efforts are part of India’s broader international outreach under Operation Sindoor to counter Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and build global consensus on coordinated action against terror networks.

    Source: Government of India (4)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually inaugurated the newly constructed Satna Airport and the upgraded Datia Airport in Madhya Pradesh, marking a major step towards enhancing regional connectivity and infrastructure development under the UDAN scheme.

The inauguration events were held simultaneously at both airport sites in the presence of state and local officials. The development is expected to significantly benefit the Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions by providing improved access to air travel and boosting regional growth.

Satna Airport: A New Regional Hub
Developed by the Airports Authority of India at a cost of ₹36.96 crore, the Satna Airport is designed to serve as a key regional hub in the northeastern part of Madhya Pradesh. Known for its cultural and industrial importance, Satna will now have enhanced connectivity to important centres such as Chitrakoot and Maihar.

The airport features a terminal building spread across 768 square metres, capable of handling 50 passengers during peak hours and accommodating up to 2.5 lakh passengers annually. The facility includes a recarpeted runway, parking bays for Dornier-228 aircraft, an Air Traffic Control tower, and a fire station.

The airport is equipped with sustainable features such as 100% LED lighting, solar-powered streetlights, and a treated water reuse system for horticulture.

Datia Airport: Boosting Religious and Cultural Tourism
The upgraded Datia Airport has been developed at a cost of ₹60.63 crore. It connects the historic town of Datia—known for the Peetambara Peeth and the Datia Palace—to the national aviation network.

The terminal building, also measuring 768 square metres, can accommodate 150 peak-hour passengers, with a projected annual capacity of 2.5 lakh passengers. The airport is currently equipped to operate ATR-72 aircraft, with future plans to support Airbus A-320 operations.

Key infrastructure includes a recarpeted runway, apron bays, ATC tower, and firefighting facilities. Sustainability measures such as rainwater harvesting systems and energy-efficient lighting have also been incorporated.

    Driving Economic and Social Growth
The operationalisation of both airports is expected to bring considerable economic and social benefits, including enhanced mobility, job creation, and growth in sectors such as tourism, hospitality, retail, education, and healthcare.

The projects reflect the Government of India’s commitment to making air travel accessible to all, as envisioned under the Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme, and to ensuring balanced regional development by strengthening last-mile infrastructure.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a yellow alert for four districts in Kerala, forecasting heavy rainfall and cautioning local authorities and residents to remain alert for weather-related disruptions.

The districts under alert include Kasaragod, Kannur, Ernakulam, and Alappuzha, where rainfall is likely to range between 7 cm and 11 cm, according to the latest IMD bulletin.

The rest of the state is expected to receive moderate rainfall as monsoon conditions continue to strengthen over Kerala. The yellow alert serves as a precautionary warning, advising public preparedness and administrative readiness.

Kasaragod district witnessed the most intense rainfall in the state during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 a.m. on May 31. While the exact rainfall recorded in Muliyar was not disclosed, Kudlu received 14 cm and Panathur registered 12 cm of rainfall, indicating heavy and widespread downpours in the region.

The IMD has also warned of strong winds reaching up to 55 kmph along the Kerala coast on Sunday. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea and are urged to stay updated with official bulletins.

Additionally, the weather office has warned of isolated lightning activity across the state. Residents, especially in vulnerable regions, have been advised to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and to take necessary precautions.

The State Disaster Management Authority has been alerted to monitor the evolving situation. Local bodies in the districts under yellow alert have been advised to keep emergency response teams on standby and to closely watch low-lying and flood-prone areas.

  • MIL-OSI China: Top amateur golfer Zhou wins third CLPG Tour title in Xiamen

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

Zhou Shiyuan, China’s top female amateur, captured her third CLPG Tour title against a pro field on Saturday, when the Chongqing teenager carded a four-under 68 to win the Zhu Chun Strait Cup Women’s Open by two strokes in Fujian Province.

After starting the third round with a one-stroke lead at Orient (Xiamen) Golf and Country Club, the 15-year-old, 43rd in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, closed with a bogey-free round featuring four birdies to finish on 10-under 206.

At 15 years, five months and 14 days old, Zhou becomes the youngest person to win three times on the CLPG Tour. She broke the previous record set by Yin Xiaowen who was 16 years, five months and 15 days old when she won the Wuhuanxing Women’s Challenge on May 22, 2021.

“Many people have congratulated me, saying that winning three times is incredible and that I have a bright future. But I feel like I’m still the same person. Nothing has changed,” reasoned a humble Zhou.

“Even though I broke Yin Xiaowen’s record, I don’t think much of it. Yin is an outstanding player who’s already competing on the US LPGA. Though I don’t know her well, I respect her greatly.”

Jeong Seulgi claimed the RMB 75,000 winner’s purse as the South Korean veteran carded her fifth birdie of the day at the last hole to finish with a 67, one shot ahead of Chinese amateur Wang Xinyu (65).

Thai veteran Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong (70) was fourth, four shots back, at the tournament featuring a field made up of CLPG Tour and TLPGA Tour players in an event created to promote “friendship” across the Taiwan Strait.

Zhou, who last year won in Chongqing and Jiangsu Province, opened with consecutive birdies to quickly get to eight-under. She picked up another stroke at the 405-yard sixth before making her last birdie at the 375-yard 10th hole. She would then par the final eight holes.

She called this victory “harder” than her previous two wins.

“This time, I felt tense throughout. My form in the first half of the year wasn’t great, especially in handling small details. The pressure was real in this event because the Thai players were chasing me hard,” said Zhou, who is considering turning pro at the end of the year.

“But I’ll assess my form first. I also hope to play in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur again. This year’s tournament left me with regrets. I missed the cut. Next time, I want to make it to the weekend and compete alongside the world’s top amateurs. I want to learn from them.”

Jeong, who won a Monday qualifier for a second time this year to get into the tournament, started the final round three shots off the lead and came out firing with birdies on the first three holes. She then picked up another shot at the 372-yard ninth hole before sinking a 25-foot birdie putt at the last to secure the runner-up finish.

“I felt I had a chance to win. Lots of great shots today, but I need more birdies,” said the former KLPGA Tour regular. “But it’s great for me. It’s a good finish. I’m not disappointed. I gave it my best efforts today.”

Guangdong-based Wang secured a top-five finish for the third consecutive tournament with a scorching final round featuring an eagle three at the 488-yard second hole where her approach shot from 114 yards out found the cup followed by five birdies.

“I’m certainly very pleased with this finish, especially since I played the final 36 holes without a single bogey. My game was solid overall today. Both my iron play and putting were on point,” said the 17-year-old Hunan native, who matched her personal best lowest score.

“My goal is to earn my professional status by year’s end. For the second half of the season, I’m aiming for a tournament victory, that way I can bypass the qualifying school process altogether.”

Rookie pro Wu Chun-wei crashed out in her CLPG Tour debut as the 2024 Asia-Pacific Women’s Amateur champion was never in contention this week, closing with 79 to finish 58th.

  • MIL-OSI China: UNICEF launches campaign to empower children as climate leaders

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

The “Step Up for Climate” campaign is launched in Beijing, May 30, 2025. [Photo provided to China.org.cn]

UNICEF launched a six-month climate awareness campaign in Beijing on Friday aimed at encouraging Chinese children and adolescents to adopt low-carbon lifestyles and take active roles in addressing climate change.

“Children are least responsible for climate change and the most affected by its impacts. But the right support is available. And children have the power to lead change,” said Amakobe Sande, UNICEF representative to China, during the launch ceremony of the “Step Up for Climate” campaign.

The initiative, jointly organized by UNICEF China, the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC), the Center for Environmental Education and Communications of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (CEEC), and the Chinese Meteorological Society, will focus on empowering youth to become climate leaders at home, in schools and throughout their communities.

Sande emphasized the increasing impact of extreme weather events on children’s health and well-being, as well as the growing risks for pregnant women. She highlighted UNICEF’s global and local initiatives to address these challenges, including efforts to reduce carbon emissions and prepare children to adapt to a changing climate.

“UNICEF is working with China’s Ministry of Education to integrate green skills into technical and vocational education,” she noted. “We are also collaborating with the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to advocate for the incorporation of a child focus in the China National Climate Change Health Adaptation Action Plan (2024-2030).”

Ding Ding, deputy director of the NCSC, spoke about the critical role young people play in tackling climate change.

“Young people possess a keen awareness of global issues and a strong sense of responsibility,” she said, adding that rather than passively experiencing the impacts of climate change, they should actively shape solutions with their creativity, vitality and unique perspectives.

Yan Shidong, director of the CEEC, noted that the initiative supports both China’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and serves as an essential platform for youth participation in global climate governance.

“In recent years, university environmental groups in China have consistently developed innovative climate solutions,” Yan said. “At COP29 in Azerbaijan, Chinese youth delegates shared the story of China’s ecological civilization, presenting solutions inspired by Chinese wisdom.”

During the launch event, young climate advocates showcased their projects. Student Ye Lisiqi introduced a school-based carbon market that rewards students with carbon credits for sustainable actions. The program includes competitions both within and between schools and has already cut carbon emissions by 880 kilograms.

The “Step Up for Climate” campaign will run for six months, continuing through COP30, the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

  • MIL-OSI China: China strongly deplores, firmly opposes U.S. Defense Secretary’s negative remarks related to China at Shangri-La Dialogue: FM spokesperson

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

China strongly deplores and firmly opposes the negative remarks related to China made by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, at the 22nd edition of the Shangri-La Dialogue, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Saturday.

The spokesperson said Hegseth deliberately ignored the call for peace and development by countries in the region, and instead touted the Cold War mentality for bloc confrontation, vilified China with defamatory allegations, and falsely called China a “threat.”

“The remarks were filled with provocations and intended to sow division. China deplores and firmly opposes them and has protested strongly to the United States,” said the spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that no country in the world deserves to be called a hegemonic power other than the United States itself, who is also the primary factor undermining the peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific. To perpetuate its hegemony and advance the so-called “Indo-Pacific strategy,” the United States has deployed offensive weaponry in the South China Sea and kept stoking flames and creating tensions in the Asia-Pacific, which are turning the region into a powder keg and making countries in the region deeply concerned.

Noting that the Taiwan question is entirely China’s internal affair, the spokesperson said no country is in a position to interfere. “The United States should never imagine it could use the Taiwan question as leverage against China. The United States must never play with fire on this question. China urges the United States to fully abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, and stop supporting and emboldening the ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces,” the spokesperson said.

“On the South China Sea, there has never been any problem with regard to freedom of navigation and overflight there,” the spokesperson said, adding China has always been committed to working with countries concerned to properly handle differences through dialogue and consultation, while safeguarding China’s territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in accordance with laws and regulations. “It is the United States who is the primary factor that is hurting the peace and stability in the South China Sea,” said the spokesperson.

China urges the United States to fully respect the efforts of countries in the region to maintain peace and stability, stop deliberately destroying the peaceful and stable environment cherished by the region, and stop inciting conflict and confrontation and escalating tensions in the region, the spokesperson said.

  • MIL-OSI China: China vows to tackle “involution-style” competition in auto sector

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Saturday it will intensify efforts to tackle “involution-style” competition in the country’s auto industry, vowing to strengthen oversight and safeguard a fair and orderly market environment.

The announcement came after the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) launched an initiative calling on companies to maintain fair competition and foster healthy industry growth.

In response, the MIIT voiced support for the proposal and warned that recent disorderly price wars have significantly disrupted normal business operations and posed a threat to the industry’s healthy and sustainable development, according to an official with the ministry.

Noting that while the ministry encourages enterprises to reduce production costs through technological and managerial innovation and deliver higher-quality and cost-effective products to consumers, the official stressed that disorderly price cuts undermine research and development investment, erode product and service quality, and may even lead to safety issues that harm consumer rights.

Such competition is a classic case of involution, the official said, adding that it will only weaken the momentum for industry development over time. “There are no winners in a price war, nor is there any future,” the official warned.

To address the issue, the MIIT will ramp up efforts to rein in involution-style competition in the auto sector. Measures include promoting industrial structure upgrades, strengthening random inspections for product consistency, cooperating with relevant authorities in combating unfair competition, and adopting necessary regulatory actions.

The official also called on companies to enhance their innovation, improve their product quality and service, and fulfill their social responsibilities.

The CAAM earlier announced an industry-wide initiative urging automakers to safeguard fair and orderly competition in the country’s booming new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

The statement emphasized that while China’s NEV industry has seen rapid growth, with NEVs accounting for over 40 percent of new car sales, the industry has seen declining profitability recently, largely due to the rise of involution-style competition marked by disorderly price wars.

The CAAM noted that recent sharp price cuts, initiated by a major carmaker on May 23 and subsequently followed by others, have sparked market panic.

All companies should strictly adhere to the principles of fair competition, while leading enterprises should not seek to squeeze the space of other players for the purpose of gaining monopoly, it said.

Apart from lawful price adjustments, firms must not sell their products below cost, engage in deceptive marketing practices, or disrupt market order in ways that harm the fundamental interests of the industry and consumers, according to the CAAM.

The group donated milk powder, mosquito nets, maize flour, washing powder, books, school bags, soap, flip-flops, tables, and chairs, among other items.

Robert Bida Samson, executive director of the CCC, a charity organization, said support from the Chinese medical teams over the past years has helped ease the burden of taking care of these children.

“The Chinese medical teams have stood with the CCC, making sure that all the children receive medical services, screening them both here at the center and also in Juba Teaching Hospital when the sickness is too serious,” Bida said during the donation ceremony in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.

The ceremony, held under the theme “One Sky One Dream,” coincided with the celebration of the 100th visit of the Chinese medical team to orphanages in South Sudan.

Established in 2007, the center is home to orphans, abandoned children, and survivors of revenge attacks and gender-based violence.

Bida commended the regular visits by the Chinese medical team, noting that these are critical to their longstanding partnership, which has empowered many vulnerable children at the center.

“Some of these children are soon finishing school. I urge that through your empowerment, some of them could get employed at Juba Teaching Hospital to share responsibility with you,” he said.

Gift Gibson Natana, deputy director general at Juba Teaching Hospital, commended the Chinese medical team for their dedication to providing medical services to orphans and communities in remote areas.

“These programs benefit tens of thousands of vulnerable people,” Natana said.

The 12th batch of the Chinese medical team, prior to visiting the CCC, also visited Juba Orphanage and Rock City Orphanage.

Liu Hongyong, commander of the Chinese peacekeeping infantry battalion to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), expressed hope that the support provided to the children would empower them to realize their future dreams.

“We wish the children of the orphanage a joyful International Children’s Day. May this contribution add color to their lives and wings to their dreams. May they grow up healthy and strong,” Liu said.

Huo Ying, deputy chief of mission at the Chinese Embassy in South Sudan, expressed her gratitude to the Chinese medical team and the Chinese peacekeeping force for their contribution toward peace and development in South Sudan.

“These contributions made by the Chinese medical team have been a valuable legacy in bilateral friendship,” Huo said.

She noted that the Chinese peacekeeping forces are participating in the UN peacekeeping operations in South Sudan, while the Chinese medical team is protecting the public health security of the South Sudanese.

Huo also commended the contributions of Chinese companies toward the development of South Sudan, stressing that the Chinese people will always be the friends of the South Sudanese people.

In June 2020, China released a master plan to build the whole of Hainan Island into a globally influential and high-level free trade port by the middle of the century. Series of opening-up policies have been issued to create a “foreign investor-friendly” business environment in Hainan. Local immigration authorities have implemented measures, such as the utilization of one-stop customs clearance service, to improve the customs clearance efficiency and to reduce the operational costs of enterprises. As a key initiative in China’s opening-up strategy, the Hainan Free Trade Port is set to begin independent customs operations by year end, and global enterprises are eyeing the vast opportunities that come with open trade. The Honorable Gene L. Dodaro
Comptroller General of the United States
    Government Accountability Office
    441 G Street, N.W.
    Washington D.C. 20548

    Dear Comptroller General Dodaro:

The 2 million federal employees who work across our country are the backbone of our federal government and are responsible for delivering vital services to the American people. These individuals dedicate their lives to public service and ensure our government fulfills its mission to make our country safer, healthier and more prosperous.

Over the past several months, the civil service has undergone an unprecedented level of change as tens of thousands of federal employees have been terminated, resigned, or placed on administrative leave. Americans are already feeling the consequences – longer wait times for Social Security assistance, delayed veterans’ benefits, and disrupted disaster response are just a few examples of how these personnel actions are impacting people across the country. We are deeply concerned about the impact these actions will have on our government’s capacity to design, develop and deliver efficient services that connect agencies with the people they serve and meet the needs of the public.

To assist our oversight of the federal government’s personnel actions, we request that the Government Accountability Office provide us with regular briefings to ensure Congress has timely data and information on the status of the federal workforce. Specifically, we request that GAO begin providing the information following each quarter through the end of fiscal year 2028 to be scheduled in coordination with applicable staff. Information on the total number of the following groups of federal employees in the 24 CFO agencies categorized by agency of employment, location, occupation and tenure by quarter –

    a. All terminated federal employees who are separated for any reason;

    b. Federal employees who took the deferred resignation program offer;

    c. Federal employees in their probationary period;

    d. Federal employees in their probationary period who were terminated;

    e. Federal employees on administrative leave.

    f. Federal employees hired.

Any difficulties experienced by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in its collection, analysis, and publication of human capital data.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Sincerely,

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: Pride Month: LGBTQ+ community need Pride protests more than ever

    Source: Scottish Greens

LGBTQ+ rights are human rights, and we will defend them; today, tomorrow and always.

Scotland must use Pride month to stand up for equality in the face of toxic campaigns by bigots, transphobes and homophobes, says Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie.

There is clear evidence that LGBTQ+ rights are being rolled back or ignored across the UK. In 2015 the UK ranked top of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association (ILGA) ‘rainbow map’ that assesses LGBTQ+ safety and equality in countries. A decade later, the UK has fallen to second bottom in Western Europe.

The dramatic drop has occurred because of a toxic culture war, which targets the LGBTQ+ community; especially transgender and non-binary people, and has left many feeling unsafe and abandoned by politicians.

In Scotland, the Scottish Government has dropped their commitment to ban conversion therapy practices, the UK Government blocked Gender Recognition Reform, and the Supreme Court has now changed the understanding of the Equality Act to exclude trans people.

    Mr Harvie said:

“When the message coming out of our Parliamentary debates echo the division and harm that Section 28 caused until it was repealed 25 years ago, protests like Pride marches are more important than ever before.

“Just a few decades ago, casual and blatant homophobia was very real in our society. We made great strides to change this perception and set an expectation that politicians would support and protect queer people, with elected MP’s and MSP’s feeling safe enough to come out in their public lives. I know that doing so was easier for me because a brave few did so before me, when it wasn’t safe or easy.

“But now we are seeing the same old prejudices being stirred up again, this time most frequently targeted against trans and non-binary people, and shamefully, some of our elected representatives are joining in with the cause, stoking the flames of a toxic culture war.

“It is not surprising that political parties have been banned from Pride events up and down Scotland and the wider UK. Many LGBTQ+ people have lost faith in politics and feel abandoned by their representatives, feeling that there is a lack of leadership on our human rights and equality.

“Choosing to support fundamental human rights should not be a radical notion, but one that every political party is expected to fight for; something that the Scottish Greens have long stood for and will continue to do.

“LGBTQ+ rights are human rights, and we will defend them; today, tomorrow and always.”

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: Single use vape ban comes into force

    Source: Scottish Government

Powers to ban the sale and supply in Scotland.

Single-use vapes will no longer be stocked or sold in Scotland under new legislation which comes into force today (Sunday 1 June).

The UK-wide ban has been introduced to prevent the environmental damage disposable vapes cause and to address health concerns associated with vaping as Scotland moves towards a tobacco-free generation by 2034.

An estimated 26 million disposable vapes were thrown away in Scotland in 2023. Of these, more than half were not recycled properly and around 10% were littered. The batteries used within disposable vapes are difficult to recycle, leak harmful waste and can cause fires in waste facilities.

Acting Net Zero Secretary Gillian Martin said: “Scotland was the first nation in the UK to commit to taking action on single use vapes.

“It’s estimated that over half of disposable vapes are incorrectly disposed of each year in Scotland – creating a fire risk and littering our beautiful environment. They also contain nicotine which is highly addictive.

“This change to the law fulfils a Programme for Government commitment and will help tackle the threat that single-use vapes pose to our environment as well as to our public health.

“We have worked closely across the four nations to ensure a consistent approach to a ban on the sale and supply of single-use vapes and will continue to work with regulators regarding enforcement once in force.”

Moves to raise the age of sale of tobacco products and regulate the displays, flavours and packaging of reusable vapes, are being taken forward separately through the 4-nations Tobacco and Vapes Bill.

    Background

The ban on single-use vapes has been taken forward using powers under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. This approach has been used in the past to ban other items such as microbeads, cotton buds and single use plastics.

A ban on single-use vapes was recommended in the four nation consultation ‘Creating a Smokefree Generation and Tackling Youth Vaping’ which ran in 2023.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Senator Marshall Visits Southern Border Alongside Kansas Law Enforcement Officials

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for Kansas Roger Marshall

Washington – U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas) visited Sierra Vista, Arizona yesterday to tour the Joint Task Force-Southern Border Command offices, thank members of Kansas’ own 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, participate in tours along the southern border, receive briefings, and take an aerial tour of the border near Arizona with several Kansas law enforcement officials.
Below are photos from Senator Marshall’s visit. Click HERE and HERE for b-roll videos.

Senator Marshall with members of Joint Task Force Southern Border.

Senator Marshall prepares to view the border from the air.

From left to right: Sheriff Billy Tomasi, Director Brian Peete, Sheriff Jeff Easter, Sheriff Scott Braun, Senator Roger Marshall, Chief Karl Oakman, Director Tony Mattivi, and Chief Courtney Leslie.
“Having visited the southern border multiple times under the Biden-Harris Administration, I witnessed chaos, lawlessness, and a system overwhelmed by over 10 million illegal crossings –including individuals on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist,” said Senator Marshall. “But during my most recent trip, the difference was clear. Since President Trump returned to office, we’ve already seen a dramatic shift with illegal border crossings dropping 93% compared to last year. What I’ve witnessed firsthand at the border proves that President Trump’s bold leadership is delivering results, and he is keeping his promises. To continue delivering on the President’s agenda, the Senate must pass the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ – legislation that will provide critical funding our border agencies need to keep America safe.”
Since President Trump took office in January 2025, the number of illegal immigrant crossings at the southern border has dropped dramatically. In April 2024, there were 128,900 crossings at the border, while in April 2025, there were only 8,400.
The Kansas law enforcement officers who accompanied Senator Marshall included Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) Director Tony Mattivi, Director of the Riley County Police Department Brian Peete, Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeffery Easter, Crawford County Sheriff Billy Tomasi, Ellis County Sheriff and Kansas Sheriffs’ Association President Scott Braun, Hugoton Police Chief and Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police President Courtney Leslie, and Kansas City, Kansas Police Chief Karl Oakman.
“I was honored to join Senator Marshall and several sheriffs and police chiefs in experiencing firsthand the challenges at our southern border,” said KBI Director Tony Mattivi. “We know every fentanyl pill sold in Kansas is trafficked by Mexican drug cartels through this border. Every single pill that kills a Kansan enters the country here, so we must continue the fight to keep dangerous and violent criminals out.”
“Senator Marshall champions law enforcement and public safety efforts. He understands the unique role the Riley County Police Department plays in protecting national security and operational readiness because of our ties to NBAF and Fort Riley,” said Riley County Police Department Director Brian Peete. “This opportunity has helped the department forge new strategic plans and procedures to keep our county safe from narcotic and human trafficking, as well as foreign terrorist organizations. My sincerest thanks to both he and his team.”
“The experience was very informative. It was amazing to me to see what 4 years of an unsecured border looked like and the issues it created for the United States,” said Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeffrey Easter. “This trip highlighted the absolute cooperation between the U.S military, Border Patrol, and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. These men and women are on the front lines protecting Kansans from the fentanyl and methamphetamine scourge that has gripped Sedgwick County. I am very appreciative of Senator Marshall inviting me to observe and understand the situation at our border.”
“We’ve learned where it’s coming in from, we’ve learned where it’s being transported to, and this is a hub where it’s coming out of,” said Crawford County Sheriff Billy Tomasi. “Like I told the voters when I came on, that I am going to learn about this and I’m going to start taking it off the streets, and that’s my goal. And I appreciate the opportunity from Senator Marshall allowing me to come down here with him to learn this, to bring back to our community.”
“Our visit to the Arizona border with the dedicated military – including soldiers from Fort Riley –and border agencies, was eye-opening. The fight against illegal immigrants and the deadly flow of fentanyl is real.  It’s happening on the ground, and it’s impacting Kansas communities every day. The brave men and women on the front lines deserve our full support as they work to protect our borders and save lives back home,” said Hugoton Police Chief and Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police President Courtney Leslie. “I am extremely grateful to Senator Marshall and his staff for the opportunity to see firsthand the fight against the cartels that are trafficking fentanyl across our border daily. The fight against these cartels is not just a border issue – it is a fight for the safety of every Kansas community.”
“I would like to thank Senator Marshall for the opportunity to see firsthand the great work being done by our men and women of law enforcement, border patrol, and the military,” said Kansas Police Chief Karl Oakman. “Eliminating drug smuggling is still a major challenge at the border, and additional resources are needed.”
    Background:

Senator Marshall spoke out against Joe Biden’s reckless border policies continuously during his four disastrous years in office, calling it the “number one” most immediate national security threat.
Senator Marshall supports President Donald Trump’s ‘One, Big Beautiful Bill,’ which includes the largest border security investment in history, empowers ICE to deport the millions of illegal immigrants who entered under the Biden-Harris Administration, and provides funding for at least one million annual removals.
Recently, Senator Marshall reintroduced the Justice for Angel Families Act, legislation that would amend the Crime Victims Fund (CVF) to expand financial coverage for Angel Families – the immediate relatives of victims killed by illegal aliens.
In 2024, he introduced legislation the Demanding Citizenship in D.C. Elections Act, which would require anyone who votes in a municipal election in the District of Columbia to be a U.S. Citizen and require proof of citizenship.
In 2024, Senator Marshall also went to the Senate Floor demanding the immediate passage of his resolution declaring an invasion at the southern border.
In an op-ed for FOX News in 2019, then-Congressman Marshall detailed his border visit with fellow doctors in Congress stating, “Our systems are simply overwhelmed, and there appears to be no break in the near future… until we build a wall, and until we turn off the laws that only serve as magnets, all the money in the world will not have a huge humanitarian impact.”
