    BERLIN, July 13 (Xinhua) — German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil said on Sunday that the European Union should take decisive action against the United States if tariff talks fail to ease the escalating global trade conflict, German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported.

    Klingbeil’s comments came in response to US President Donald Trump’s threat on Saturday to impose 30 percent tariffs on EU exports from August 1 after talks had so far failed to produce a deal.

    Calling for an end to escalating trade tensions, Germany’s finance minister said: “Trump’s tariffs only cause losses. They threaten the American economy just as they hurt businesses in Europe.”

    As reported by Suddeutsche Zeitung, L. Klingbeil emphasized that the European Union “does not need new threats or provocations,” but “an honest agreement.”

    He warned that Germany would not remain indifferent if the talks failed. “If a fair solution cannot be reached, we must take tough countermeasures to protect jobs and businesses in Europe,” the vice chancellor said, noting that preparations were already underway. “Our hand is still outstretched, but we will not give in to everything,” he added.

    L. Klingbeil also said that Germany is stepping up efforts to diversify its global trade relations.

  • MIL-OSI Africa: Mkhwanazi allegations: What the judicial commission of inquiry will probe

    President Cyril Ramaphosa has outlined the scope of a judicial commission of inquiry that will focus on investigating “allegations relating to the infiltration of law enforcement, intelligence and associated institutions within the criminal justice system by criminal syndicates”.

    The commission will be chaired by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.

    The President made the announcement during an address to the nation on Sunday evening.

    The establishment of the commission is related to serious allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

    “Among the allegations that the commission may investigate are the facilitation of organised crime; suppression or manipulation of investigations; inducement into criminal actions by law enforcement leadership; commission of any other criminal offences and intimidation, victimisation or targeted removal of whistleblowers or officials resisting criminal influence.

    “The commission will investigate the role of current or former senior officials in certain institutions who may have aided or abetted the alleged criminal activity; failed to act on credible intelligence or internal warnings; or benefited financially or politically from a syndicate’s operations.

    “These institutions are the South African Police Service, National Prosecuting Authority, State Security Agency, the Judiciary and Magistracy, and the metropolitan police departments of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane,” he said.

    Furthermore, the commission will also investigate if any National Executive members “responsible for the criminal justice system, were complicit, aided and abetted, or participated in the acts mentioned above”.

    “The commission will be asked to report on the effectiveness or failure of oversight mechanisms, and the adequacy of current legislation, policies and institutional arrangements in preventing such infiltration. It will make findings and recommendations for criminal prosecutions, disciplinary actions and institutional reform.

    “Once established, the commission shall consider prima facie evidence relating to the involvement of individuals currently employed within law enforcement or intelligence agencies.

    “Where appropriate, the commission must make recommendations on the employment status of such officials, including whether they should be suspended pending the outcome of further investigations,” President Ramaphosa explained.

    The commission will submit interim reports after three and six months.

    “The commission will have the power to refer matters for immediate criminal investigation and urgent decisions on prosecution, taking into account the nature of the allegations and evidence the commission will uncover.

    “It is critical that these matters be attended to with the necessary urgency and thoroughness. 

    “The commission is expected to complete its work and submit a final report to the President. The final report of the commission will be sent to the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chief Justice,” he said.

    The President noted that the commission’s establishment comes as the country is making progress in the rebuilding and strengthening of law enforcement agencies and security services.

    “In recent years, the South African Police Service, the Special Investigating Unit, the Asset Forfeiture Unit and other bodies have been making important inroads in the fight against organised crime and corruption. It is essential that we maintain this momentum and that we intensify this work.

    “We will ensure that the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies continue to function without hindrance as the commission undertakes its work. I call on all members of our law enforcement agencies and security services to remain steadfast in upholding the rule of law and adhering to their code of conduct.

    President Ramaphosa emphasised that the establishment of the commission is a testament to “our commitment to the rule of law, transparency and accountability”.

    “I call on all South Africans to support the commission in its work and, where appropriate, to provide any information or assistance the commission may require.

This is the reality that is lived at the Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary in Dili in East Timor, which recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its foundation.The small South-East Asian country, where more than 90 percent of the population is Catholic, just under a year ago received a visit from Pope Francis, who met, among others, the seminarians in Dili.In 25 years, 989 men have studied and received formation at the Major Seminary, including diocesan and religious seminarians. Of these, 118 young men have been ordained priests.Today, 245 seminarians study in the structure. These days they were visited by Fr Alessandro Brandi, an official of the Pontifical Society of St. Peter the Apostle (POSPA), who concelebrated the Holy Mass for the 25th year of foundation in the square of the Major Seminary.     Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 in a high-octane final to claim his maiden Wimbledon trophy and fourth Grand Slam crown on Sunday, avenging his loss to the Spaniard in last month’s epic French Open final.

    The hard-fought win over the two-times defending champion on the famous lawns of London ensured that Sinner became the first Italian to secure a Wimbledon singles title.

    “I would like to start with Carlos. An amazing tournament, but mostly thank you for the player you are,” Sinner said.

    “It’s so difficult to play against you, but we have an amazing relationship off the court and on the court … keep going, keep pushing.”

    The 23-year-old Sinner drew first blood in the first Wimbledon men’s final contested by a pair born in the 2000s, breaking for a 3-2 lead, but Alcaraz clawed back before hitting a spectacular return at full stretch to wrap up the opening set and he celebrated by cupping his ear and soaking up the cheers.

    Sinner was gained a break in the opening game of next set and he let out a rare yell of “Let’s go” after winning a point en route to holding in a tight game before surging ahead 3-1 after a brief interruption when a champagne cork flew from the stands and landed on Centre Court.

    The top seed shrugged off the distraction and hit a running crosscourt winner to take the second set, before tightening his grip on the contest by unleashing a superb volley at the net to break for 5-4 and then holding in the next game to seal the third set with minimum fuss.

    With shadows drifting across the main showcourt that had basked in bright sunshine, Sinner wheeled away to a 3-1 lead in the fourth set as Alcaraz began to display the smallest signs of dejection, and the monk-like world number one held firm from there to complete a famous victory.

    “It’s amazing to be in this position,” added Sinner.

    “We were talking actually before the match; we would never have thought to be in this position. Back in the days when I was young, this was only a dream, because it was so far away from where I’m from. So I’m just living my dream, it’s amazing.

    “I’d like to thank my team and everyone who came here for this special day. It means so much. You give me so much emotion on and off the court and we try to keep pushing and trying to become a better tennis player, but mostly a better person.”

    There was to be no Roland Garros-like resurrection for Alcaraz, who fought back from three match-points down in the Paris finale just 35 days ago, as the Spaniard’s bid to claim three successive All England Club titles was extinguished.

    “I’m just really happy and really proud about everything I’m doing,” the 22-year-old Alcaraz said.

    “At the beginning of the season, I struggled a little bit on the court, but then suddenly I started to bring joy on the court again and that excitement I have every time I step on the court.

    “It’s a great journey so far, which I’m really proud of.”

    PYONGYANG, July 13 (Xinhua) — The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) condemned the joint military exercises between the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) on Sunday, calling the trilateral maneuvers “a major danger factor that increases the level of military tension on the Korean Peninsula and adjacent areas.”

    As reported by the Korean Central News Agency, citing a statement by the head of the Political Department of the DPRK Ministry of Defense, on July 11, the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea “held provocative trilateral joint air exercises, using various types of bombers, including the B-52H strategic bomber, in the skies over the Korean Peninsula and its environs.”

    The statement noted that the military alliances between the US and Japan and between the US and the ROK “have finally evolved into a nuclear-based trilateral military alliance,” and the trilateral military cooperation being promoted in all areas foreshadows “long-term instability and tension on the Korean Peninsula, which may lead to an unpredictable phase of military confrontation at any time.”

    On July 11, 2025, Matthew Scoville, an inmate from Saskatchewan Penitentiary, died while in our custody.

    At the time of death, the inmate was 42 years old and had been serving a sentence of two years, seven months and one day since May 26, 2025.

    The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

    As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.

    President Cyril Ramaphosa has placed Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on leave of absence with immediate effect.

    The President has also announced a judicial commission of inquiry – led by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga – into the allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

    The President made the announcements during an address to the nation on Sunday evening.

    During a media briefing last week, Mkhwanazi made several allegations about an alleged criminal syndicate that has “spread its tentacles into law enforcement and intelligence services”.

    Mkhwanazi also made allegations against the Police Minister – alleging that Mchunu colluded with criminal elements to disband the Political Killings Task Team based in KwaZulu-Natal.

    During the address to the nation, the President emphasised that the allegations “call for an urgent and comprehensive investigation”.

    “To address these allegations and the implications of these allegations, I am establishing a judicial commission of Inquiry, chaired by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga. Justice Madlanga will be assisted by Advocate Sesi Baloyi SC and Advocate Sandile Khumalo SC.

    “In order for the Commission to execute its functions effectively, I have decided to put the Minister of Police, Mr Senzo Mchunu, on a leave of absence with immediate effect. The Minister has undertaken to give his full cooperation to the Commission to enable it to do its work,” President Ramaphosa said.

    Mkhwanazi had also made allegations about the uncovering of a drug cartel, implicating, amongst others, the judiciary, law enforcement, prosecutors and politicians.

    The President said these allegations “raise serious concerns around the Constitution, the rule of law and national security”.

    “These allegations, if proven true, threaten to undermine the confidence of South Africans in the ability of the South African Police Service to protect them and to effectively fight crime and corruption.

    “South Africans are concerned about corruption and the rise of criminality in our country, which manifests itself in the killing of innocent people, gender-based violence, gang violence, kidnappings, construction mafia criminality and many others.

    “As we intensify the fight against crime, it is vital that we safeguard the integrity and credibility of the police and other law enforcement agencies,” President Ramaphosa said.

    With the Police Minister now on a leave of absence, Professor Firoz Cachalia has been appointed as acting Minister  in terms of Section 91(3)(c) of the Constitution.

    “Professor Cachalia is currently a professor of law at the University of the Witwatersrand and is the chairperson of the National Anti-Corruption Advisory Council. He previously served as a MEC of Community Safety in Gauteng.

    “Professor Cachalia will be retiring from his current position at the University of Witwatersrand at the end of July. I will appoint an Acting Minister from within Cabinet until Professor Cachalia takes up his post at the beginning of August,” the President said. – SAnews.gov.za

    In the Third Presentment of the Twenty-First Statewide Grand Jury in Florida, it was revealed that:

    The Biden DOJ received thousands of allegations of sexual abuse related to unaccompanied minors processed through the ORR.

    Today, His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) St. John’s departed Halifax to begin its deployment on Operation REASSURANCE, where it will join Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) as part of Canada’s continuing contribution to NATO’s collective defence in European waters, until December 2025.

    By maintaining a continual presence in the Eastern and Central Mediterranean Sea, SNMG2 will continue to uphold freedom of navigation, secure vital sea lines of communication, and maintain a credible and coherent posture of deterrence, in close coordination with our Allies.

    SNMG2 is also a core part of the maritime component of the NATO Response Allied Reaction Force and provides a continuous maritime capability to execute NATO missions, demonstrating solidarity and strengthening interoperability between Allied naval forces.

    Police will work with fire investigators to establish the circumstances of the fire.

    Hurricane Helene lasted only a few days in September 2024, but it altered the landscape of the Southeastern U.S. in profound ways that will affect the hazards local residents face far into the future.

    Mudslides buried roads and reshaped river channels. Uprooted trees left soil on hillslopes exposed to the elements. Sediment that washed into rivers changed how water flows through the landscape, leaving some areas more prone to flooding and erosion.

    Helene was a powerful reminder that natural hazards don’t disappear when the skies clear – they evolve.

    These transformations are part of what scientists call cascading hazards. They occur when one natural event alters the landscape in ways that lead to future hazards. A landslide triggered by a storm might clog a river, leading to downstream flooding months or years later. A wildfire can alter the soil and vegetation, setting the stage for debris flows with the next rainstorm.

    I study these disasters as a geomorphologist. In a new paper in the journal Science, I and a team of scientists from 18 universities and the U.S. Geological Survey explain why hazard models – used to help communities prepare for disasters – can’t just rely on the past. Instead, they need to be nimble enough to forecast how hazards evolve in real time.

    The science behind cascading hazards

    Cascading hazards aren’t random. They emerge from physical processes that operate continuously across the landscape – sediment movement, weathering, erosion. Together, the atmosphere, biosphere and the earth are constantly reshaping the conditions that cause natural disasters.

    For instance, earthquakes fracture rock and shake loose soil. Even if landslides don’t occur during the quake itself, the ground may be weakened, leaving it primed for failure during later rainstorms.

    That’s exactly what happened after the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan Province, China, which led to a surge in debris flows long after the initial seismic event.

    Earth’s surface retains a “memory” of these events. Sediment disturbed in an earthquake, wildfire or severe storm will move downslope over years or even decades, reshaping the landscape as it goes.

    The 1950 Assam earthquake in India is a striking example: It triggered thousands of landslides. The sediment from these landslides gradually moved through the river system, eventually causing flooding and changing river channels in Bangladesh some 20 years later.

    An intensifying threat in a changing world

    These risks present challenges for everything from emergency planning to home insurance. After repeated wildfire-mudslide combinations in California, some insurers pulled out of the state entirely, citing mounting risks and rising costs among the reasons.

    Cascading hazards are not new, but their impact is intensifying.

    Climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of wildfires, storms and extreme rainfall. At the same time, urban development continues to expand into steep, hazard-prone terrain, exposing more people and infrastructure to evolving risks.

    The rising risk of interconnected climate disasters like these is overwhelming systems built for isolated events.

    Yet climate change is only part of the equation. Earth processes – such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions – also trigger cascading hazards, often with long-lasting effects.

    Mount St. Helens is a powerful example: More than four decades after its eruption in 1980, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to manage ash and sediment from the eruption to keep it from filling river channels in ways that could increase the flood risk in downstream communities.

    Rethinking risk and building resilience

    Traditionally, insurance companies and disaster managers have estimated hazard risk by looking at past events.

    But when the landscape has changed, the past may no longer be a reliable guide to the future. To address this, computer models based on the physics of how these events work are needed to help forecast hazard evolution in real time, much like weather models update with new atmospheric data.

    Thanks to advances in Earth observation technology, such as satellite imagery, drone and lidar, which is similar to radar but uses light, scientists can now track how hillslopes, rivers and vegetation change after disasters. These observations can feed into geomorphic models that simulate how loosened sediment moves and where hazards are likely to emerge next.

    Researchers are already coupling weather forecasts with post-wildfire debris flow models. Other models simulate how sediment pulses travel through river networks.

    Cascading hazards reveal that Earth’s surface is not a passive backdrop, but an active, evolving system. Each event reshapes the stage for the next.

    Understanding these connections is critical for building resilience so communities can withstand future storms, earthquakes and the problems created by debris flows. Better forecasts can inform building codes, guide infrastructure design and improve how risk is priced and managed. They can help communities anticipate long-term threats and adapt before the next disaster strikes.

    Most importantly, they challenge everyone to think beyond the immediate aftermath of a disaster – and to recognize the slow, quiet transformations that build toward the next.

    In the midst of everything else going on, it’s easy to ignore the extraordinary planetary crisis we face from climate change. But we just can’t allow ourselves to do that.

    The past 10 years have been the warmest 10 years on record. 2024 was the warmest year in recorded history. January 2025 was the hottest January on record. Western Europe just had its hottest June on record. The recent heat wave in the United States put nearly 190 million Americans under heat advisories and broke heat records in more than 280 locations. Over the past 60 years, the frequency of heat waves in the United States has tripled. According to a new study from Yale University, 64% of Americans think global warming is affecting the weather in the U.S. and almost HALF say they have personally experienced its effects.

    From May 2024 to May 2025, 4 billion people — half of the world’s population — experienced at least one extra month of extreme heat due to climate change. Climate change exacerbated Hurricane Helene last fall in the American Southeast, flooding in Texas this past week and in Vermont and Brazil last summer, recent wildfires in Canada and Los Angeles, and health waves in the United States, Europe, India and Pakistan.

    And what is President Trump’s response? He just fired the last remaining State Department employees who work on climate change, which is undoubtedly one of the greatest threats to our national security.

    Donald Trump is putting the planet and future generations at risk for the short-term profits of his fossil fuel executive friends.

    WASHINGTON, D.C. — In case you missed it, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Immigration Subcommittee, joined CNN’s “State of the Union” this morning to criticize the Trump Administration’s cruel immigration raids in California and across the nation, and pushed for new legislation to require immigration enforcement officers to display clearly visible identification during public-facing enforcement actions.

    As Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), enact President Trump’s cruel mass deportation agenda, Padilla’s VISIBLE Act would strengthen oversight, transparency, and accountability for the Administration’s indiscriminate and alarming immigration enforcement tactics that have terrorized communities across California and the nation.

    He discussed the recent ruling by a federal judge ordering the Trump Administration to stop carrying out indiscriminate immigration enforcement in Southern California, emphasizing that there is “a mountain of evidence” that agents are illegally arresting people solely based on their race, accents, or occupation. Padilla criticized Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homan, for dismissing the federal judge’s order and maintaining the Administration’s un-American racial profiling policy.

    Padilla also slammed Trump’s plan to enact a 35 percent tariff on Canada and a 30 percent tariff on Mexico, starting on August 1, emphasizing that these tariffs will amount to a tax on the American people by raising prices.

But the fact of the matter is, the vast majority of those being detained are the same people who were deemed essential workers at the end of the first Trump Administration at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.     • “I do have concern when there are no requirements for ICE agents or other federal agents involved with the immigration enforcement actions to even identify themselves. I mean, if you’re a member of a working-class immigrant community, and you see unmarked cars roll into your community, people getting out of those cars with no identifiers that they are law enforcement, and literally not just detaining, in your mind, maybe kidnapping.”
    • “So that’s why Senator Booker and I have this bill to require that identification for ICE agents or anybody involved with immigration enforcement. It’s for the safety of the officers and agents, as well as safety for the community and to protect against people exploiting the circumstances, impersonating ICE agents, and getting involved with burglary, theft, kidnapping, sexual assault, and worse.”

    On Ventura County immigration raid leading to the death of a migrant farm worker:

    • “Again, if all they’re doing is going after serious violent criminals, that would be one thing, but because of these artificial quotas established by, whether it’s Donald Trump or Stephen Miller or somebody in the Administration, it’s causing ICE to get more aggressive, more cruel, more extreme, and these are the results. It’s people dying because of fear and terror caused by this Administration. It’s not just undocumented immigrants. There’s lawful immigrants that are being rounded up.     • “Both Canada and Mexico aren’t just the largest trading partners for the state of California, they’re among the largest trading partners for the United States of America. And so let’s remember what happens when tariffs take effect. First of all, costs will increase, and the people who pay that price increase are United States consumers. It’s U.S. companies importing products from those countries that will pass along the cost to the American consumer. So in effect, it’s a tax increase on the American people brought to you by Donald Trump.”

    ISLAMABAD, July 13 (Xinhua) — At least 104 people were killed and over 200 injured in heavy rains and flash floods in Pakistan from June 26 to July 12, Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Sunday.

    According to the NDMA, six people have died and 15 were injured in rain-related accidents in the last 24 hours.

    The highest death toll, 39, was recorded in the eastern province of Punjab, followed by the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 31 deaths, the southern province of Sindh with 17 deaths and the southwestern province of Balochistan with 16 deaths.

    Eritrean professional cyclist Henok Mulubrhan, a member of the Astana Cycling Club and three-time African Cycling Champion, has won both the Yellow and Green Jerseys at the 24th edition of the Magnificent Qinghai 2025, currently being held in China.

    In the race covering 1,323.7 km, Henok finished first in the 6th stage (232.7 km), second in the 5th stage, and third in the 7th stage. Henok also secured third place in the King of the Mountain classification.

    In the competition, which featured 120 cyclists from 21 clubs, Eritrean professional cyclists Merhawi Kudus, Natnael Berhane, Even Yemane, Metkel Eyob, and Petros Mengis also participated, representing their respective clubs.

    It is to be recalled that at the 23rd edition of the Magnificent Qinghai competition last year, Henok was the winner of the Green Jersey.

    More than 1000 PSA members working at ACC are to strike in support of fairer pay.
    Members voted overwhelmingly to take strike action in response to an unacceptable pay offer that would see more than 160 workers, often women, earning less than the living wage.
    Strike action will start with a one-hour withdrawal of labour from 11am to noon on Wednesday 16 July. Further action is planned for Wednesday 6 August.
    “The strike vote reflects a failure by ACC to bring a meaningful increase for poorly paid predominantly female workers to the table,” says Public Service Association Te Pūkenga Here Tikanga Mahi National Secretary Fleur Fitzsimons.
    The Accident Compensation Corporation has 318 workers currently earning less than the living wage. The current offer will still leave 166 earning less than the living wage.
    ACC is offering a pay increase of between zero and 2% for staff earning the midpoint of their pay band or above, regardless of how low the pay band is.
    “This leaves many low paid workers stuck in a cycle where their wages are eroded by inflation and they keep falling below what is a fair wage for what they do,” Fitzsimons says.
    “As a result, many ACC workers are earning less than they need to live with dignity and the ability to earn enough to cover more than just the absolute basics.”
    “The broader context is that ACC does not pay many of its staff well, and this latest pay offer does not address this issue, or recognise the efforts of loyal, long-serving staff, who will be above the midpoint of their band.
    “Making matters worse low paid ACC administrative staff had their pay equity claim extinguished when the Government amended the pay equity law in May,” Fitzsimons says.
    The work of the striking ACC staff includes: Recovery, Coordinators, Recovery Partners, Administrators, Clinical Advisors, Cover Assessors and Customer Experience Representatives.
    “The PSA and ACC will enter into mediation today (Monday 14 July)and we hope this will result in a better offer for these workers,” Fitzsimons says.
    The Public Service Association Te Pūkenga Here Tikanga Mahi is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest trade union, representing and supporting more than 95,000 workers across central government, state-owned enterprises, local councils, health, and community groups.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Update 303 – IAEA Director General Statement on Situation in Ukraine

    The IAEA team at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) reported hearing hundreds of rounds of small arms fire last night, the latest sign of military activity potentially threatening nuclear safety and security, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said today.

    The large number of shots – repeatedly fired for about an hour from 10pm local time – was unusual, the team members reported.  

    Conducting a site walkdown this morning, they saw numerous small calibre casings lying scattered on the ground near reactor units 5 and 6. There was no sign of broken windows or other physical damage.

    The IAEA team at the ZNPP is seeking further information about the incident.

    “Such military activity at or near a major nuclear power plant is clearly unacceptable,” Director General Grossi said.  

    Saturday evening’s shooting came after a series of purported attacks and other incidents involving drones near the ZNPP and other nuclear facilities in Ukraine in recent months, including a report of a strike a few days ago in the city of Enerhodar, where most ZNPP staff live.  

    Director General Grossi reiterated his deep concern about the apparent increased use of drones near nuclear power plants since early this year, saying such weaponry posed a clear risk to nuclear safety and security.

    Any drone strike on a nuclear facility would violate the Seven Indispensable Pillars for nuclear safety and security during an armed conflict as well as the Five Principles to help ensure nuclear safety and security at the ZNPP, outlined by the Director General in March 2022 and May 2023, respectively.  

    “We are seeing a clear escalation in drone strikes during this war, also affecting Ukraine’s nuclear power plants and potentially putting them in further danger. As I have repeatedly stated, any military attack on a nuclear site – with or without drones – jeopardizes nuclear safety and must stop immediately,” Director General Grossi said.

    BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) — China’s railway construction progressed steadily in the first half of 2025, with fixed asset investment in the railway sector up 5.5 percent year on year, according to the China Railway Corporation (CRC).

    According to the KGZK, from January to June, investment in fixed assets reached 355.9 billion yuan (about 50 billion US dollars).

    The volume of investment remains high, the KGZhK emphasized, noting that railway investments cover a long production chain and a wide range of industries, being an important driver of growth.
