  • MIL-OSI Russia: International Congress on Business Tourism Meet Global MICE Congress to be held in Moscow in December

    A major international forum, Meet Global MICE Congress, will be held in the capital on December 17 and 18. This was reported by Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow. The event will bring together Russian and foreign experts in the field of business tourism, representatives of specialized companies and departments for the third time.

    The congress will be dedicated to the MICE industry, related to the organization and holding of business events.

    “15 business sessions are planned. They will cover key issues for the development of the industry – from interstate cooperation to the use of modern technologies and promotion in new markets,” noted Natalia Sergunina.

    The main topic of the first day will be interaction with government institutions of different countries and cities, and the second day – business partnership and industry initiatives. Traditionally, a cultural program will be prepared for the participants. For example, they will get to know Moscow as one of the international tourist centers.

    For the first time, the event will feature an exhibition space for Russian and foreign companies. Entrepreneurs will be able to present their proposals and hold business negotiations. Separate stands will be dedicated to the festival “Moscow Tea Party” and the project “Made in Moscow”.

    The congress will feature intensive training sessions and expert presentations in an open microphone format. Specialists will share best practices and the most successful cases.

    In 2024, the event brought together more than 1,300 representatives of the business tourism industry from Russia and 16 other countries, including Brazil, India and China.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Installation of a panel in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences has begun on the track walls of the Akademicheskaya metro station

    The installation of decorative panels made of cellular aluminum has begun on the platform section of the Akademicheskaya station of the Troitskaya metro line. They will be used to create a panel dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Development Policy and Construction Vladimir Efimov.

    “The panel at the Akademicheskaya metro station will be dedicated to science. Various artistic elements will be applied to the front side of the panels, as well as images of outstanding Russian scientists from different eras: Lavrentiy Blumentrost, Ivan Schumacher, Nikolai Semenov and Vladimir Vernadsky. To add dynamics to the overall composition, the technology of printing on aluminum honeycomb panels and digital application of images to combined panels with a glass front surface was used. The total area of the panel on the track walls exceeds 1.6 thousand square meters. Together with the finishing of the ceiling and platform portals, they will form a single composition with an area of over 5.7 thousand square meters,” Vladimir Efimov noted.

    Multilayer aluminum is actively used in underground construction, since this material is resistant to temperature effects and has high strength.

    “The installation of the panels was preceded by the assembly of an aluminum subsystem consisting of horizontal and vertical guides, which are installed using brackets on a concrete base. Such a fastening system will ensure the reliability of the entire structure and high installation speed,” said Maxim Gaman, General Director of Mosinzhproekt JSC.

    The central part of the Akademicheskaya platform will be decorated with a series of portals, the edges of which will be illuminated. These architectural elements will become the main source of illumination for the platform.

    Earlier, Sergei Sobyanin held technical launch metro section from Novatorskaya to ZIL.

    “Akademicheskaya” is being built near the intersection of Dmitry Ulyanov and Profsoyuznaya streets. It will be a shallow station with two underground vestibules, through which you can get to residential buildings, public transport stops on Dmitry Ulyanov and Grimau streets, as well as on 60th Anniversary of October Avenue. Passengers will be able to transfer to the platform of the same name on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya metro line.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Moscow is a city of youth: how student brigades help to realize oneself

    This year, from April to August, members of Moscow student brigades work at various sites across the country. Over 500 people remained to work in the capital. During the academic year, students and schoolchildren were selected for all-Russian and interregional work projects of Russian student brigades (RSB) – they completed tasks and participated in interviews.

    “Thanks to the opportunities in the capital, young residents of the capital can realize themselves in various areas from volunteering to creativity. Moscow student brigades are an active community that works for the benefit of the entire country. More than 3.5 thousand participants of student brigades work at sites throughout Russia, master professions, gain experience and contribute to the development of the most important sectors – from education to industry,” said

    Ekaterina Dragunova, Chairman of the Committee for Public Relations and Youth Policy of the City of Moscow.

    They receive a working specialty and begin their journey into the profession

    Currently, the Moscow regional branch of the RSO has over 150 teams in eight areas. They unite over 3.5 thousand students from 80 capital universities, 30 colleges and 80 schools. In the spring, the children received free training in working specialties in order to begin their path to the profession in the summer, gain their first work experience and contribute to the development of key industries in the country.

    “Moscow student brigades are professional growth and acquisition of flexible skills, experience, a team and, of course, youthful romance. Now students and schoolchildren begin their working summer at construction sites, the railway, in hospitals, hotels, children’s camps, agricultural complexes, on the fishing season and archaeological excavations. The guys work both in the capital and throughout Russia,” said Yulia Drozhzhina, chairperson of the board of Moscow student brigades, State Duma deputy.

    More than a thousand participants in the pedagogical direction work as counselors, shift leaders and program organizers in children’s camps in the Central Federal District, Krasnodar Krai, the Republic of Crimea and Primorye.

    Over 70 people represent Moscow in major RSO work projects as part of all-Russian student teaching teams. These are Gagarin in Anapa, Okean in Vladivostok, Delfin.ru in Krasnodar Krai, Orlyonok, Krasnaya Nit and Sputnik in Rostov Oblast. Muscovites also work at the International Children’s Center Artek in Yalta. In addition, the children will become counselors as part of the district student teaching team Solnechny. Their functions include holding leisure and developmental events and creating a comfortable environment for communication and socialization of children.

    In student construction teams, the guys work at city, federal and international sites. In addition, with the assistance of the administration of the capital’s universities, the guys build dormitories of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba and the innovative scientific and technological center of Moscow State University “Vorobyovy Gory”.

    They work on all-Russian student construction sites and international projects

    13 capital teams have been selected for five all-Russian labor projects of the RSO, including “Peaceful Atom — Leningrad NPP” in the city of Sosnovy Bor in the Leningrad Region, where they are taking part in the construction of the Leningrad NPP-2.

    In addition, student team members perform general construction work at the all-Russian student construction sites “Peaceful Atom” in Ozersk, Chelyabinsk Region, “Peaceful Atom – Skif” in Novosibirsk, “Peaceful Atom – Breakthrough” in Seversk, Tomsk Region, “Alabuga Stroy” in Yelabuga (Republic of Tatarstan), “Siberia”, as well as in the work projects of Aeroterminal LLC in Krasnodar and “Kovykta” at the Kovykta gas condensate field in the Irkutsk Region.

    25 students represent Moscow in international projects, ensuring the operation of power plants in the Arab Republic of Egypt, including the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), as well as in the Republic of Bangladesh at the Rooppur NPP.

    They look after patients, work as orderlies and nurses

    The number of participants in medical teams is growing every year. Students from the capital’s famous medical universities provide support to the country’s healthcare system during the summer – they look after patients, work as orderlies and nurses in institutions throughout Russia.

    This year, in Moscow, they are working at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Care, the private healthcare institution “RZhD-Medicine Clinical Hospital named after N.A. Semashko”. Nine medical teams have been selected for all-Russian projects. From July, they will work in healthcare institutions on Sakhalin Island, Novosibirsk, Novokuznetsk, Chelyabinsk, Barnaul, Perm, Irkutsk and Tomsk, as well as in the Valeo district project in the Voronezh Region.

    Provide comfortable passenger transportation and service

    More than 200 participants in the conductor program ensure safe and comfortable passenger transportation on long-distance trains in the structural divisions of JSC Federal Passenger Company (Moscow-Kyiv and Nikolaevka). During trips, students control the placement of passengers according to tickets and serve them along the way, supervise safe boarding and disembarking on platforms, and monitor the technical condition of the carriage.

    This year, three student conductors became leaders of the all-Russian labor projects “Moscow” and “Adler”. Miron Ganichev from the student conductor team “Sinoger” based at the Russian State Agrarian University – Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A. Timiryazev took the position of instructor at the passenger car depot “Moscow-Kyiv”. Before each trip, he instructs students on labor protection and fire safety while working on the train.

    Participants in the service direction work as waiters, maids, lifeguards, bartenders, administrators and animators in hotels and sanatoriums on the Black Sea coast as part of the All-Russian student service teams “Sochi Park Hotel” in the city of Sochi, “Gelendzhik” in the city of the same name, “More” in Crimea.

    The “Runway” project in St. Petersburg allowed the children to become escorts for passengers with limited mobility, call center operators, inform passengers about airport services, clean aircraft cabins – raise seat backs, armrests and lay out blankets.

    For the first time this year, students began working at passenger check-in desks and became baggage handlers at Vnukovo Airport. On the Sapsan and Lastochka trains on the Moscow-St. Petersburg route, they hold the positions of waiter-stewards and serve passengers on high-speed trains. In addition, the guys work as waiters in the business lounges of Paveletsky and Kazansky railway stations in the center of the capital.

    They get jobs in admissions offices of universities and work in agriculture

    Another area of activity of service teams is administrative work at Moscow universities. Thus, students work in admissions committees of universities. They receive documents from applicants, form lists of applicants, draw up schedules for conducting entrance examinations and participate in summing up the results of the admissions campaign.

    Agricultural sector participants are involved in harvesting crops, working with cattle and poultry as veterinarians, livestock technicians, laboratory technicians, and much more.

    For example, this year students are participating in a large all-Russian project to harvest apples on the territory of OOO Agronom-Sad in Lipetsk Oblast and are being employed as winegrowers at AO Divnomorye in Krasnodar Krai.

    Students majoring in animal husbandry — veterinarians, zootechnicians, technologists and biologists — will try themselves at subsidiaries of the EkoNiva group of companies in the Voronezh region, at enterprises of the Damate group of companies in the Rostov region and at branches of Stavropolsky Broiler LLC.

    From July 1, members of the fishing teams will go to student fishing seasons in the Kamchatka and Khabarovsk regions as fish processors, caviar fishermen and short-distance fishing sailors.

    Moscow to open 65th summer work season of student teams

    This year, schoolchildren aged 14 to 17 years old, as part of the adolescent work teams, will work as hall attendants at the stations of the Moscow Central Circle, Moscow Central Diameters, and as attendants at the capital’s railway stations.

    For the first time this year, Moscow teenagers’ work teams were selected for the all-Russian work project “Alabuga TOP” in Yelabuga (Republic of Tatarstan). There they will become office managers for receiving and processing incoming calls in the office, and will clean residential premises and public places.

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Overseas Investment Bill passes first reading

    Associate Finance Minister David Seymour welcomes the passing of first reading for a Bill to make it easier for New Zealand businesses to receive new investment, grow and pay higher wages. 
    The Overseas Investment (National Interest Test and Other Matters) Amendment Bill has passed its first reading in Parliament today.   
    “New Zealand has been turning away opportunities for growth for too long. Having one of the most restrictive foreign investment regimes in the OECD means we’ve paid the price in lost opportunities, lower productivity, and stagnant wages. This Bill is about reversing that,” says Mr Seymour.  
    “In 2023, New Zealand’s stock of foreign direct investment sat at just 39% of GDP, far below the OECD average of 52%. Investors are looking elsewhere, so we’re showing them why New Zealand is the best place to bring their ideas and capital.  
    “International investment is critical to ensuring economic growth. It provides access to capital and technology that grows New Zealand businesses, enhances productivity, and supports high paying jobs.   
    “New Zealand’s productivity growth has closely tracked the amount of capital workers have had to work with. Our capital-to-labour ratio has seen very little growth in the last 10 years, averaging approximately 0.7 per cent in measured sectors annually. That’s compared to growth in the capital-to-labour ratio in measured sectors of around 2.2 percent in the previous 10 years. Unsurprisingly, productivity growth averaged 1.4 percent a year between 1993 and 2013, but only 0.2 percent between 2013 and 2023.  
    “The Bill will consolidate and simplify the screening process for less sensitive assets, introducing a modified national interest test that will enable the regulator to triage low-risk transactions, replacing the existing benefit to New Zealand test and investor test. If a national interest risk is identified, the regulator and relevant Minister will have a range of tools to manage this, including through imposing conditions or blocking the transaction.”
    The current screening requirements will stay in place for investments in farmland and fishing quota.  
    “For all investments aside from residential land, farmland and fishing quota, decisions must be made in 15 days, unless the application could be contrary to New Zealand’s national interest. In contrast, the current timeframe in the Regulations for the benefit test is 70 days, and the average time taken for decisions to be made is 30 days for this test,” says Mr Seymour.  
    “High-value investments, such as significant business assets, existing forestry and non-farmland, account for around $14 billion of gross investment each year. We’re removing the barriers for these investments so that number can grow.  
    “The Ministerial Directive Letter will be updated to provide guidance on which assets should undergo further scrutiny and which risks may be contrary to New Zealand’s national interest. This guidance will provide a degree of certainty to investors and support a flexible regime which is responsive to new and emerging risks.  
    “The updated system brings New Zealand up to speed with other advanced economies. They benefit from the flow of money and the ideas that come with overseas investment. If we are going to raise wages, we can’t afford to ignore the simple fact that our competitors gain money and know-how from outside their borders.  
    “These reforms cut compliance costs, reduce processing times, and restore confidence that New Zealand is open for business. The Bill will be passed by the end of the year and the new regime implemented by early 2026. A new Ministerial Directive Letter will come into force at the same time.”

Moreover, she will visit an innovative technology lab there to learn about the latest developments in the adoption of smart and green technologies on the Mainland.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Two arrested in Hounslow stabbing murder investigation

    Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Hounslow have arrested two men.

    Police were called at 14:21hrs on Sunday, 22 June to reports of a stabbing in Hanworth Road, near the junction with School Road.

    Officers responded with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.

    A 22-year-old man was treated for stab wounds before being taken to hospital where he sadly later died. His next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.

    Two men, aged 27 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday, 23 June.

    They remain in custody for questioning.

    Superintendent James Rawlinson from the local neighbourhood policing team, said:

    “We are aware of the effect this horrendous incident has had on the local community, and have designated officers on reassurance patrols, to answer questions that you may have.

    “Residents will continue to see increased police presence whilst this investigation remains ongoing.

    “I encourage anyone who has information but may not have contacted police yet to get in touch and assist with this investigation.

    “Please rest assured we are working at pace on this investigation, which is ongoing.

    “As is stands, we maintain that though the incident took place outside the Hounslow Muslim Centre, there is nothing to suggest a link to the venue.

    Life imprisonment for Limpopo farm murder accused

    The Polokwane High Court has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for a farm murder following a botched robbery.

    According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the men were also sentenced to an additional 42 years’ imprisonment for related offences. These include conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravating circumstances, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

    During the trial, the three – Malesela Albert Mangena, Velly Segwale and Lesiba Solly Segwale – pleaded not guilty to all charges.

    “The court heard that on 07 October 2022, the trio conspired to commit a robbery at Derdekraal Farm. Upon arrival, they entered the house and held a 15-year-old boy at gunpoint, demanding money and the safe keys. They handcuffed the boy and began looting valuable items.

    “When the farm owner, Nicolaas Johannes Janse van Rensburg, and his partner arrived, the accused ordered them to sit down. An altercation ensued, during which Van Rensburg was shot and killed,” the NPA said in a statement.

    The three then fled the scene but were later arrested and remained in custody until the finalisation of their trial.

    The prosecution argued that the crime had been premeditated and that the accused had shown no remorse.

    Limpopo Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Ivy Thenga said: “The NPA remains committed to delivering justice for victims of violent crimes, especially those murdered in cold blood for their belongings. I commend Advocate Makhubele and all the stakeholders involved in securing this conviction and sentence”. – SAnews.gov.za

    MEC gives youth development initiative the thumbs up

    North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha, has given his endorsement to youth development through agriculture.

    He expressed his support for a new smart farming initiative designed to empower 10 young agri-preneurs from the rural village of Schaumburg, located near Skeerpoort in the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality.

    This as the launch of the initiative took place on Friday, 20 June 2025, at Earth Hub Africa, marking the official start of the beneficiaries’ journey toward earning a National Certificate in Plant Production. It is spearheaded by Earth Hub Africa in collaboration with the MTN SA Foundation and Shell Downstream South Africa.

    As a grassroots agricultural platform, Earth Hub Africa empowers smallholder farmers and youth-led agri-enterprises by providing access to land, training, and market integration.

    According to the provincial department, the smart farming programme introduces young people to modern agricultural practices, digital tools, and market-oriented farming techniques.

    “It aligns with the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s vision of increasing youth participation in agriculture while promoting food security and economic self-sufficiency.”

    Sambatha lauded Earth Hub Africa, MTN SA Foundation and Shell SA for their ongoing commitment to developing rural communities through smart agriculture, particularly in rural areas.

    “This partnership reflects the kind of innovation and collaboration we need to truly uplift our people. These young agri-preneurs are the future of food security and economic resilience in our province,” he added.

    He further affirmed his department’s commitment to working closely with MTN, Shell, and other partners to ensure continued support for the beneficiaries, including mentorship and access to departmental programmes aimed at fostering growth in the agri-sector.

    The MEC used the platform to encourage both MTN and Shell to explore opportunities for expanding the smart farming initiative to other districts within the province, allowing more young people to benefit from te impactful programme.

    Jafta Lin Boya, one of the beneficiaries, expressed deep gratitude, calling it a life-changing opportunity.

    “We come from a place where access to resources is limited, but today we feel seen and empowered. It is an opportunity to change our lives and our communities through farming.”

    Deputy President to speak at G20 youth roundtable in Johannesburg

    Deputy President Paul Mashatile will address the high-level Group of 20 (G20) intergenerational roundtable hosted by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) on Friday in Johannesburg. 

    The roundtable is part of South Africa’s G20 Presidency and will focus on promoting equity, enhancing capabilities, and fostering innovation.

    The Deputy President’s Office announced that the upcoming gathering will bring together youth activists, professionals, international partners and policymakers. 

    The focus of the event will be to discuss inclusive development pathways and generational equity.

    The roundtable will include high-level contributions from Cabinet members, industry leaders, continental development partners, and representatives from civil society.

    “The engagement also aims to amplify youth voices in shaping national and global development agendas, while accelerating opportunities for their meaningful inclusion in economic, governance, and innovation ecosystems,” said the Presidency.

    In line with the priorities of the G20 Presidency, Deputy President Mashatile will discuss the importance of building youth capabilities for a developmental state. 

    He will address the structural barriers that young people face and promote government-led solutions through collaborative policy instruments, such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

    In addition, his talk will emphasise the need for strategic investments in education, innovation, and inclusive growth.

    Paris Saint-Germain, Botafogo, Inter Miami and Palmeiras reached the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 on Monday while Atletico Madrid was eliminated on goal difference.

    In Monday’s other match, Abou Ali’s fine solo performance was not enough to earn Al Ahly a spot in the next round as the Egyptian side drew 4-4 with Porto, which also exited the tournament.

    Abou Ali netted in the 15th minute before converting from the penalty spot just before halftime and adding a third goal shortly after the restart.

    Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane was also on target for the Cairo-based side while Rodrigo Moura, William Gomes, Samu Aghehowa and Pepe scored for the Portuguese outfit.

    The following is the Message sent by the Holy Father Leo XIV to the participants in the Second Annual Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and Corporate Governance (Rome, 19 to 20 June 2025):

    On the occasion of this Second Annual Rome Conference on Artificial Intelligence I extend my prayerful good wishes to those taking part. Your presence attests to the urgent need for serious reflection and ongoing discussion on the inherently ethical dimension of AI, as well as its responsible governance. In this regard, I am pleased that the second day of the Conference will take place in the Apostolic Palace, a clear indication of the Church’s desire to participate in these discussions that directly affect the present and future of our human family.
    Together with its extraordinary potential to benefit the human family, the rapid development of AI also raises deeper questions concerning the proper use of such technology in generating a more authentically just and human global society. In this sense, while undoubtedly an exceptional product of human genius, AI is “above all else a tool” (POPE FRANCIS, Address at the G7 Session on Artificial Intelligence, 14 June 2024). By definition, tools point to the human intelligence that crafted them and draw much of their ethical force from the intentions of the individuals that wield them. In some cases, AI has been used in positive and indeed noble ways to promote greater equality, but there is likewise the possibility of its misuse for selfish gain at the expense of others, or worse, to foment conflict and aggression.
    For its part, the Church wishes to contribute to a serene and informed discussion of these pressing questions by stressing above all the need to weigh the ramifications of AI in light of the “integral development of the human person and society” (Note Antiqua et Nova, 6). This entails taking into account the well-being of the human person not only materially, but also intellectually and spiritually; it means safeguarding the inviolable dignity of each human person and respecting the cultural and spiritual riches and diversity of the world’s peoples. Ultimately, the benefits or risks of AI must be evaluated precisely according to this superior ethical criterion.
    Sadly, as the late Pope Francis pointed out, our societies today are experiencing a certain “loss, or at least an eclipse, of the sense of what is human,” and this in turn challenges all of us to reflect more deeply on the true nature and uniqueness of our shared human dignity (Address at the G7 Session on Artificial Intelligence, 14 June 2024). AI, especially Generative AI, has opened new horizons on many different levels, including enhancing research in healthcare and scientific discovery, but also raises troubling questions on its possible repercussions on humanity’s openness to truth and beauty, on our distinctive ability to grasp and process reality. Acknowledging and respecting what is uniquely characteristic of the human person is essential to the discussion of any adequate ethical framework for the governance of AI.
    All of us, I am sure, are concerned for children and young people, and the possible consequences of the use of AI on their intellectual and neurological development. Our youth must be helped, and not hindered, in their journey towards maturity and true responsibility. They are our hope for the future, and society’s well-being depends upon their being given the ability to develop their God-given gifts and capabilities, and to respond to the demands of the times and the needs of others with a free and generous spirit. No generation has ever had such quick access to the amount of information now available through AI. But again, access to data — however extensive — must not be confused with intelligence, which necessarily “involves the person’s openness to the ultimate questions of life and reflects an orientation toward the True and the Good” (Antiqua et Nova, No. 29). In the end, authentic wisdom has more to do with recognizing the true meaning of life, than with the availability of data.
    In this light, dear friends, I express my hope that your deliberations will also consider AI within the context of the necessary intergenerational apprenticeship that will enable young people to integrate truth into their moral and spiritual life, thus informing their mature decisions and opening the path towards a world of greater solidarity and unity (cf. ibid., 28). The task set before you is not easy, but it is one of vital importance. In thanking you for your efforts now and in the future, I cordially invoke upon you and your families the divine blessings of wisdom, joy and peace.

    Students of SPbGASU became volunteers of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) and participants of the youth program “Day of the Future”, which took place on June 21.

    More than eight thousand people took part in the events of the SPIEF youth program, 37 sessions were held. This platform was visited by representatives of about 220 universities and about 60 scientific organizations.

    Anna Kozhemyak and Irina Peretokin (both second-year students of the construction faculty) were included in the forum’s volunteer corps and worked at the event from June 18 to 21.

    “I was able to participate in the forum thanks to a competitive selection. After submitting applications, we completed online training to learn about the main working aspects of the forum. Then we took an exam in the RANEPA building with questions in Russian and English, as well as a short oral survey. As a result, I managed to get into the business contacts exchange team, the main goal of which is to help participants organize business meetings.

    The experience of working in this area is incredibly useful. Every day is different from the previous one, the schedule is tight, the tasks are responsible, but thanks to the coordinated work of our team, everything went great! SPIEF is a huge productive mechanism, and it was a great honor for me to contribute to its work,” said Anna Kozhemyak.

    Third-year students of the Faculty of Forensic Expertise and Law in Construction and Transport Daria Meleshina, Egor Kolobov and Ruslan Kafarov as a team of the educational project “InfoShield” became participants of the youth program “Day of the Future”. The project was among the winners of the competition “Rosmolodezh. Grants”.

    As part of the forum, the guys also attended thematic events, including the session “Cyber fraud as a tool of information warfare. A new look at digital threats and public security” with the participation of experts, journalists and bloggers. The project team interviewed the discussion participants and recorded a podcast for the educational project “InfoShield”.     “Our project is dedicated to digital security and legal education of schoolchildren in grades eight to eleven. We want to teach teenagers to recognize online threats, know their digital rights, and understand where to turn for help. As part of the project, we hold lectures and interactive classes at our university and in schools in St. Petersburg, prepare podcasts with the participation of experts in cybersecurity and law, and an Olympiad with cases on safe behavior on the Internet. In this way, we confirm in practice that students can really influence important processes and launch socially significant initiatives. The forum allowed young people to discuss important topics, share their projects, and communicate with experts. I have many new ideas for further work,” said Daria.

    “Active participation of students in social projects and creative activities plays a very important role, contributing to their personal growth and helping them to form social connections,” noted Ekaterina Kovalenko, Deputy Head of the Youth Policy Department at SPbGASU.

According to the agreements on the creation of MPT, in 2025, six production facilities with a total area of about 93 thousand square meters will appear in the capital.     The State of Qatar sent a letter to HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres and HE Permanent Representative of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of June Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, requesting that it be circulated to the members of the Security Council and issued as an official document of the Council.

    In the letter addressed by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani to the members of the Security Council and HE the UN Secretary-General, the State of Qatar informed them of an extremely dangerous escalation that represents a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the State of Qatar, posing a direct threat to regional peace and security. The letter noted that on Monday evening, the State of Qatar was subjected to a missile attack by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard targeting Al-Udeid Air Base, which was successfully intercepted by Qatari air defenses.

    The State of Qatar expressed its strong condemnation of the missile attack targeting the base, considering it a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and airspace, as well as of international law and the United Nations Charter. The State of Qatar stressed that it reserves the right to respond directly in a manner equivalent with the nature and scale of this blatant aggression and in accordance with the Charter and international law.

    The State of Qatar stressed that the continuation of such escalating military actions would undermine security and stability in the region and drag it into situations that would have disastrous repercussions for international peace and security. The State also called for an immediate cessation of all military actions and a serious return to the negotiating table and dialogue.

    The State of Qatar pointed out that it was among the first countries to warn of the consequences of Israeli escalation in the region, calling for a priority of diplomatic solutions, adhering to the principles of good neighborliness and non-escalation, and affirming that dialogue is the only way to overcome current crises and preserve the security of the region and the safety of its people.

    The State of Qatar stressed the need for the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities under the United Nations Charter, affirming the need for the Council to take urgent measures to impose an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire throughout the Middle East to prevent the region from sliding into further dangerous escalation.

    The 14th international scientific and practical conference “Modern Mechanical Engineering: Science and Education (MMESE-2025)” was held at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The event was organized by the Department of Theory of Machines and Mechanisms of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport of SPbPU.

    The conference brought together teachers, researchers, engineers, postgraduates and students from Russian and foreign educational and scientific organizations. Participants discussed modern approaches to teaching engineering disciplines and current development trends in the mechanical engineering industry.

    The conference was organized into thematic sections: teaching engineering disciplines, theory of mechanisms and machines, mechatronics and robotics, gear transmissions, tribosystems, transport and technological systems, machine tool building, materials science, design and industrial innovations, etc. Participants presented reports on the results of scientific research and practical activities, and discussed ways to integrate education, science and industry. Particular attention was paid to the issues of training engineering personnel for high-tech industries and the use of advanced educational technologies.

    The first conference “Modern Mechanical Engineering: Science and Education” was held in St. Petersburg in 2011. Since then, it has been held annually and has established itself as an important scientific platform. In different years, MMESE has been attended by researchers and teachers from Poland, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, China, India, Syria, Iran, Iraq and other countries.     The conference proceedings of 2025 contain 76 reports. All of them are indexed in the Russian Science Citation Index, each has a digital DOI identifier. The collection is available for reading and downloading inPDF format (access open for 30 days). Selected papers will be recommended for publication in Springer.

    The MMESE conference remains an important platform for exchanging experiences and forming a professional community of specialists in the field of mechanical engineering and engineering education.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Polytechnic University team wins IT-Planet international Olympiad

    The final of the international Olympiad “IT-Planet” was held in Moscow. This is one of the largest technology competitions for young people in Russia and the CIS countries. The program of this year’s Olympiad included 15 innovation competitions. Awards were received by 81 winners from 24 regions of our country, as well as from Belarus. Among the winners were also polytechnicians. All of them represented the Institute of Computer Science and Cybersecurity.

    The final of the Olympiad brought together about 600 participants, including college and university students, young professionals, teachers and representatives of leading Russian IT companies. The total prize fund was over two million rubles. The winners received not only cash prizes and diplomas, but also a chance for career growth: the opportunity to undergo industrial training in leading Russian companies and get into the database of promising IT specialists.

    A team headed by Associate Professor of the Higher School of Artificial Intelligence Technologies of the Institute of Computer Science and Engineering Oleg Sabinin did a great job of preparing SPbPU students for the Olympiad. Master’s students of the Higher School of Artificial Intelligence Technologies of the Institute of Computer Science and Engineering A. Gubeeva and D. Amelchenko prepared tests and consulted the students. A great contribution to the team’s preparation was made by IKNC postgraduate student R. Turusov, who composed excellent training problems.

    In the finals, the Polytechnicians performed brilliantly in the “Postgres PRO DBMS” competition.

    First place — Ivan Maksimov, 3rd year student of VShTII. Second place — Vladimir Plakhotnikov, 2nd year student of VShPI. Third place — Evgeny Zhabko, 4th year student of VShTII.

    Polytechnic graduates Artem Sukhov and Alexey Sankov, as well as 3rd year student of the Institute of Culture and Science Kristina Marchenko, took high places in the Olympiad.

    “At the IT Planet Olympiad in Moscow, I competed in the database competition (PostgreSQL). It was a great experience! Not only because I was able to test my skills in writing complex SQL queries and win prizes, but also because I had the opportunity to listen to IT experts. They shared current trends and real cases,” said Ivan Maksimov. “I especially remember the tasks where it was necessary to solve algorithmic problems, trying to fit into the minimum amount of code – this required both an understanding of PostgreSQL and an unconventional approach. It was also great to communicate with other participants who were also interested in databases. In between stages, I managed to walk around the capital, which made the trip both useful and enjoyable.”

    “The Olympiad program included tasks on optimizing SQL queries, which allowed me to test and deepen my knowledge in the field of information processing. I was able to communicate with participants from other educational institutions and experts, which contributed to the exchange of professional experience,” Vladimir Plakhotnikov shared his impressions. “I took second place – for me, this was a significant achievement. Participation in the Olympiad fully met expectations and gave a lot of useful knowledge.”

    “We visited Moscow once again and took part in the Olympiad. I really like feeling like part of such a large-scale event. Many thanks to the organizers for the opportunity to prove myself,” commented Evgeny Zhabko. “Special thanks, of course, go to my mentor and teacher, Oleg Yuryevich Sabinin. It is difficult to overestimate the contribution he makes to the development of the Polytechnic University. The results speak for themselves: the top 5 in the “Postgres Pro DBMS” competition are students and graduates of our university. Special thanks to my friend Vu Hoai Nam for his help and support.”

  • MIL-OSI Security: Man charged with murder following fatal Croydon shooting

    Met detectives investigating a fatal shooting in Croydon have charged a man with murder.

    Byron Cole, 39 (31.10.1985) of Gleneldon Road, Lambeth, has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

    He has been remanded to custody and will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 24 June.

    An investigation was launched after officers were called to reports of a shooting on Imperial Way at 17:04hrs on Thursday, 19 June.

    A man, who we can now name as Anthony Morrison, 41, was found with gunshot wounds. He was treated by paramedics but sadly died at the scene.

    His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

    On Sunday, 22 June, Met officers arrested a 39-year-old man [A] on suspicion of murder. He was charged as above.

    A 37-year-old woman [B] was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. She was released on bail pending further enquiries.

  • MIL-OSI Security: NATO releases Updated Defence Production Action Plan, Commercial Space Strategy and Rapid Adoption Action Plan

    At their meeting in February 2025, NATO Defence Ministers approved NATO’s Updated Defence Production Action Plan. They approved NATO’s first Commercial Space Strategy and Rapid Adoption Action Plan at their meeting in June 2025.

    On Tuesday (24 June), NATO released public versions of these documents.

    The Updated Defence Production Action Plan responds to the need for Allies to produce more and faster, in a rapidly-evolving security environment. The plan aims to improve Allies’ ability to aggregate demand, deliver cutting edge capabilities, and accelerate the growth of defence industrial capacity and production, including by providing long-term orders and clear demand signals to industry. 

    Developed in consultation with industry, NATO’s first Commercial Space Strategy will allow the Alliance to integrate commercial solutions more flexibly and at pace, and ensure continuous access during peacetime, crisis and conflict.  The strategy aims to create more business opportunities and cut red tape in NATO’s procurement processes, simplifying how space companies engage with the Alliance, helping to increase commercial diversity, and strengthening partnerships across the Alliance.
     
    NATO’s Rapid Adoption Action Plan substantially accelerates the adoption and integration of new technological products for defence, across all military domains. Allies commit to expedite adoption procedures, including fast-track procurement, and to allocate adequate resources to that end. Allies will embrace more acquisition risk in the early stages of development and are set to improve communication of Alliance-wide demand signals. The plan provides for new testing and experimentation opportunities in operationally-realistic, real world environments by launching the NATO Innovation Ranges and scaling the NATO Task Force X Model.

  • MIL-OSI NGOs: ‘Burn, baby, burn’: Trump and Meloni’s toxic alliance staged in offshore fossil gas protest

    Ravenna, Italy – As Italy and much of Europe are entering the heatwave season with scorching temperatures already being recorded, 12 activists from seven countries are taking action with Greenpeace Italy against climate-wrecking fossil gas at the new liquefied gas import terminal of Ravenna. At sea, activists reached the infrastructure and attached large banners on it reading “Burn, baby, burn” referencing President Trump’s mantra “Drill, baby, drill” alongside an image of a burning Earth flanked by the faces of US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

    At the same time, activists are protesting in kayaks holding a road sign depicting the choice EU leaders need to take between climate hell and a fossil-free future. The action targets Italy’s recent pledge to increase imports of liquefied fossil gas from the US. An alliance that deepens Europe’s fossil fuel dependence and vulnerability to political blackmail from Trump.[1]

    Federico Spadini, climate and energy campaigner at Greenpeace Italy said: “While the country scorches under record heat, Meloni chooses to side with Trump and sabotage Italy’s climate action. This toxic alliance puts Italy’s energy future in the hands of Trump and locks the country further into a dangerous gas dependency that fuels the climate crisis, drives up our energy bills and turns our homes into ovens.” 

    Italy is reportedly Europe’s fourth largest importer of liquefied fossil gas with Qatar and the US being the primary suppliers. Despite the fact that liquefied gas (LNG) imports fell by 12% in 2024 according to the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), the Italian government has pushed for additional LNG import capacity with the new gas import terminal (FSRU) in Ravenna which started operations earlier this year.[2] The protest also comes in the middle of the Greenpeace campaign against oil and gas giants like the Italian ENI, the same company that launched a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP) targeting Greenpeace Italy, Greenpeace Netherlands and Italian NGO ReCommon.[3]

    “While Meloni is making dirty deals with Trump, ENI threatens to silence those who dare to speak out and advocate for a renewable energy future—putting profit before people, and deepening a toxic pattern of repression and fossil fuel dependence,” added Spadini.

    Accelerating the transition to renewable energy is not only an environmental imperative; it is a matter of security, said campaigner Lisa Göldner, who is currently on board the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise on an expedition across Europe to expose the risks of fossil gas and to mobilise for a fossil-free energy future.[4]

    Lisa Göldner, Greenpeace Germany campaigner with the European Fossil-Free Future campaign said: “Every new gas import terminal, every new fossil gas purchase agreement is locking Europe further into a gas trap that threatens Europe’s security and independence. Fossil gas fuels the climate crisis and geopolitical conflict and makes Europe vulnerable to political blackmail. The EU must break free from its fossil fuel dependency and take control of its future by investing in a renewable, secure and peaceful energy system.”

    “Rather than weakening methane regulations and handing a ‘free pass’ to US gas, as is currently being considered, EU leaders have to up their game: agree on a full phase-out of fossil gas by 2035 at the latest and ban all new fossil fuel projects in the EU.”[5]

    Greenpeace is calling for a phase-out of fossil gas through a transition to renewable energy that allows everyone to meet their energy needs at a decent price, without harming people, the planet or the environment.

  • Monsoon alert: Light rainfall likely in Delhi-NCR

    Several parts of the national capital and adjoining NCR areas are likely to witness light rainfall and cloudy skies on Tuesday, offering much-needed respite from the intense summer heat.

    According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light rainfall is very likely to occur in various parts of Delhi, including Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Kanjhawala, Rohini, Badli, Pitampura, Mundka, Paschim Vihar, Rajouri Garden, Jafarpur, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Palam, and IGI Airport. Rain is also expected in nearby NCR regions such as Bahadurgarh and Gurugram, as well as in Safidon, Jind, and Panipat in Haryana.

    The IMD has predicted generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms from June 23 to 26 in Delhi-NCR region.

    On June 24, temperatures are expected to drop, with highs between 34°C to 36°C, up to 4°C below normal. Winds will come from the northwest, increasing to 15–18 kmph in the afternoon.

    By June 25 and 26, the city will continue to experience light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms. Temperatures will remain in the 33°C to 35°C range, with both maximum and minimum values staying below normal. Winds will vary in direction, from west to south and northeast, with speeds mostly below 15 kmph.

    “It is deeply disappointing to learn that a memorial stone, laid in honour of those young men from our shores who served in the 36th Ulster Division, has been stolen — an act of malice carried out by individuals styling themselves as “Republican Youth.”

    “The sacrifice made in the First World War was not the preserve of Protestant or Unionists alone — many Catholic Nationalists also answered the call and gave their lives in that great conflict, particularly in the 16th Irish Division which drew many of its soldiers from Redmond’s Nationalist Volunteers which fought alongside those commemorated by the memorial stone at Messines in June 1917.

    “This memorial was a modest tribute, placed respectfully by Killowen Lodge on its own private grounds. It posed no threat, no provocation, and no reason for offence.

    “Basic decency would demand that respect be shown to those who paid the ultimate price — regardless of the political lens through which you view the past.

    “I would urge anyone with information about this act of desecration to come forward, either to the PSNI or, if they feel more comfortable, to contact me directly in confidence. I will ensure the information is passed on.

    “Those behind this disgraceful act may have enjoyed a momentary thrill by trying to wound a community’s memory — but all they have truly done is expose their own narrow-mindedness.

    “I have no doubt that the memorial will be restored. And when it is, it will stand all the taller — as a lasting reminder that some gave their all, while others can only lash out in petty vandalism.”

    Foster + Partners is the winner out of five finalists in a competition to design the national memorial to Queen Elizabeth II in St James’ Park

    • Their design proposal was selected from a shortlist of five concepts by acclaimed teams.
    • Includes a new bridge inspired by the late Queen’s wedding tiara, a Prince Philip Gate and new gardens.
    • Final plans for the memorial in St James’ Park will be announced next year.

    Foster + Partners has won the competition to design the national memorial to Queen Elizabeth II.

    Five finalist teams were asked to create a masterplan that would honour and celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s extraordinary life of service and provide the public with a space for reflection.

    Foster + Partners’ winning design concept celebrates Queen Elizabeth’s life through a time of great change, balancing tradition and modernity, public duty and private faith, the United Kingdom and a global Commonwealth. The design concept illustrates how she brought these dualities together: two gates, two gardens, joined by a bridge and unifying path.

    Foster + Partners’ design concept features figurative sculptures and a new Prince Philip Gate. It also features gardens – dedicated to the Commonwealth and the communities of the United Kingdom – to create spaces for reflection and coming together. Artistic installations will celebrate the nation’s diversity. A new bridge, replacing the existing Blue Bridge, will feature a cast-glass balustrade that recalls Queen Elizabeth’s wedding tiara.

    This design concept will be subject to change as it undergoes refining.

    The Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee’s selection panel found Foster + Partners’, design, balancing formal and informal elements, impressive and capable of creating an engaging landmark to endure for generations to come. The panel also valued Foster + Partners’ artistry, use of space, technical skills and their sensitivity to the memorial’s location.

    The winning team includes artist Yinka Shonibare and celebrated landscape designer, Michel Desvigne.

    Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Pat McFadden said:

    Queen Elizabeth II was admired around the globe. Foster + Partners’ fantastic design concept will be a beautiful memorial to Her life and legacy of public service. Situated in the heart of our capital, it will be a space to reflect on and celebrate our longest reigning Monarch for centuries to come.

    The panel selected Foster + Partners’ design concept from a shortlist of proposals by five leading multidisciplinary teams. During the competition the public were encouraged to give their views on the design concepts to commemorate the UK’s longest reigning Monarch. 

    The Committee also consulted experts in arts, heritage, architecture, structural engineering, placemaking and accessibility to find the best concept to honour Queen Elizabeth.

    Committee Chair Robin Janvrin said:

    Selecting the winner was no easy task. All five of the shortlisted teams produced creative designs of the highest quality. 

    Foster + Partners’ ambitious and thoughtful masterplan will allow us and future generations to appreciate Queen Elizabeth’s life of service as she balanced continuity and change with strong values, common sense and optimism throughout her long reign.

Her Majesty loved history and tradition, so this is reflected in the inspiration of the original design of St James’s Park by Sir John Nash. Some of his principles have survived, whilst others have been lost and will be restored, creating a family of gardens joined by gently meandering paths.

    I knew The Queen on formal occasions but also enjoyed her informality when attending events as a member of the Order of Merit. We have sought to reflect these qualities of the formal and informal in our design, with an appeal across a wide range of ages and interests. To these ends, we have discreetly stretched the boundaries of art and technology with a deliberately gentle intervention. Our design will have the minimum impact on the nature and biodiversity of the Park and it will be phased to ensure that the precious route across it will never be closed.

    At the heart of our masterplan is a translucent bridge symbolic of Her Majesty as a unifying force, bringing together nations, countries, the Commonwealth, charities and the armed forces.

    Foster + Partners will now develop its initial concept in close partnership with the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee. They will work together to select a sculptor to design the memorial’s figurative element. The Committee will announce the sculptor later this year. 

    The memorial will be located in St James’s Park, an area of historical and constitutional significance, which also has a personal connection to Queen Elizabeth II. It will include an area of the Park adjacent to The Mall at Marlborough Gate, an area adjacent to Bird Cage Walk and replace the existing bridge between the two with a new crossing.

    The final design will be formally announced in April 2026, alongside a legacy programme, to coincide with what would have been Queen Elizabeth’s hundredth birthday year.
