  • MIL-OSI: 21Shares Files for 21Shares FTSE Crypto 10 Index ETF and 21Shares FTSE Crypto 10 ex-BTC Index ETF

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

NEW YORK, July 18, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — 21Shares US LLC today announced that it has filed a registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for two Funds, the 21Shares FTSE Crypto 10 Index ETF and the 21Shares FTSE Crypto 10 ex-BTC Index ETF.

The exchange-traded funds are the first crypto basket ETFs to be registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940. Each Fund is designed to offer diversified exposure to the crypto market through dedicated indexes, constructed by 21Shares and maintained by FTSE Russell.

    • The 21Shares FTSE Crypto 10 Index ETF tracks a market cap-weighted index of the top ten largest crypto assets globally. This index dynamically adjusts to reflect the size and success of each asset, allowing the market itself to determine the leaders. Larger, more relevant cryptocurrencies naturally hold greater weights, capturing the evolving landscape of the crypto space.
    • The 21Shares FTSE Crypto 10 ex-BTC Index ETF tracks a separate FTSE Russell index that excludes Bitcoin, investing exclusively in cryptocurrencies and blockchain networks that focus on real-world applications beyond Bitcoin’s macro hedge proposition.

Asset inclusion in the index is subject to a dual-layer research review by both FTSE Russell and 21Shares.

Structured as 1940 Act funds, the ETFs also offer investors a familiar and more tax-efficient vehicle, qualifying for Form 1099 tax reporting instead of the more complex K-1 forms often associated with other structures.

“These filings represent a step in 21Shares’ regulatory engagement in the U.S.,” said Federico Brokate, Head of U.S. Business at 21Shares. “Investors are increasingly looking for diversified and easy-to-access ways to participate in the long-term growth of digital assets, and 21Shares aims to provide ETF structures to satisfy this demand, subject to regulatory approval.”

“The methodology and structure behind our digital asset pricing and indices were developed to give investors strategic allocation tools”, said Kristen Mierzwa, Head of Digital Assets at FTSE Russell. “Collaborating with 21Shares on a market exposure pair – with and without Bitcoin – underscores our commitment to innovation in digital asset investing.”

21Shares is launching the two Funds in partnership with ETF Solutions by Teucrium, who serves as the adviser and white-label platform supporting the development and efficient market entry of these products.

A registration statement relating to the Funds has been filed with the SEC but has not yet become effective.

  • MIL-OSI Submissions: Cynthia Erivo will be the most talked about Jesus of 2025 – but women have long retold the gospel

Source: The Conversation – UK – By Sarah Parkhouse, British Academy Research Fellow, Centre for Biblical Studies, University of Manchester

Cynthia Erivo, the award-winning actor and star of Wicked, will play Jesus Christ at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles between August 1 and 3 2025.

Unsurprisingly perhaps, the casting of the Wicked star as the son of God in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s provocative rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar has caused upset on social media. Accusations of blasphemy have been made based on Erivo’s gender, sexuality, race – and even hairstyle.

The UK-based Christian magazine Premier Christianity responded to the outcry, featuring articles on whether a female Jesus was “inclusive” or “offensive”. Erivo laughed it all off.

I’m an expert in the reception of Biblical narratives. As such, I believe the outrage over this particular casting choice misses the fact that women have been involved in reimagining and retelling the Jesus story since antiquity.

The earliest gospels were originally written anonymously. They have only retroactively been ascribed to male authors, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Within a few generations after Jesus’s death, a work titled the Gospel of Mary was written from the perspective of Mary Magdalene, positioning her as Jesus’s favoured disciple and bearer of secret knowledge.

While we can’t prove the Gospel of Mary was written by a woman any more than we can prove the four canonical gospels were written by men, within the text the male disciple Peter attacks Mary precisely for being a woman. This suggests that the author was clued into gender dynamics, especially in the context of early Christian discourse and authority.

As Christianity was gaining state approval within the Roman empire in the fourth and fifth centuries, the elite woman poet Faltonia Betitia Proba and the Byzantine empress Aelia Eudocia composed their own gospel retellings. They reconfigured the Hebrew Bible and gospel stories by using verses from Virgil and Homer.

These ancient works offer a distinctively female perspective. Their retellings pay careful attention to the experiences of female characters who are often marginalised in the canonical tradition, depicting the particularly gruelling experience of Mary’s maternal grief when her son was crucified.

These retellings aren’t apocryphal outliers – they belong to the same literary tradition of the four gospels Bible readers know today.

Just as Matthew and Luke (and possibly John) very clearly reworked Mark by adapting and rearranging scenes and strings of words, so too the Gospel of Mary retells the resurrection scene from John. Proba and Eudocia combine and rearrange gospel material to tell the story anew again.

Women continue to retell the Jesus story today, sometimes focusing more on the female characters. In Edinburgh, director Suzanne Lofthus has been writing and directing the city’s annual Passion Play for the last 20 years. Her 2024 and 2025 productions reimagined Jesus’s masculinity and placed the experiences of women at its centre. This year, she showed Jesus willingly getting stuck into the “women’s work” of making bread at the house of Mary and Martha, and questioning the culpability of the man in the story of the woman caught in adultery.

The Nativity Story focused on women’s experiences.

Catherine Hardwicke, meanwhile, best known for directing the first Twilight movie, directed The Nativity Story in 2006, a tender portrayal of Mary’s journey through her pregnancy, with particular emphasis on the women around her.

These creative contributions are really quite different to brutal, hypermasculine retellings such as Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ (2004), for which a sequel is reportedly in development. Hardwicke herself contrasted The Nativity Story with The Passion, noting striking differences “especially [in] the quarts of blood per frame”.

    Women playing Jesus

The role of Jesus is often played by women in these retellings. Erivo herself sang the role of Mary Magdalene in a 2017 New York concert that led to two all-female concept albums, controversially titled She Is Risen. The project was the brainchild of singer and actor Morgan James, who performed the role of Jesus.

Just last year, an all-female cast performed Jesus Christ Superstar in Santa Barbara, California. And a gender-blind casting led to the role of Jesus being given to Mina Kawahara in a 2017 production of the hippy-ish retelling of the gospel, Godspell, at Villanova Theatre, Pennsylvania. She followed a precedent of other female leads in this musical. The Japan-born Kawahara donned a white pantsuit with flowers in her hair.

A Japanese woman named Yuko Takeda took on the role of the son of God in the 2010 Helsinki Passion Play – another casting choice that enraged some conservative Christians. The female director, Miira Sippola, commented that the decision would free the audience from focusing too much on whether the performer resembles the Jesus of medieval artwork – already so far from the historical Jesus.

Over in New Jersey, a 15-year-old American girl played the role of Jesus in a 2023 passion play, carrying a 12-foot cross for over two miles in bare feet. These are a mere smattering of examples, of which there are many more.

The controversy over Erivo’s casting reveals more about cultural assumptions than historical precedent. The Hollywood Bowl’s Jesus Christ Superstar continues the often-overlooked tradition of women who have long participated in retelling, reshaping and performing the story of Jesus — on the page, on screen and on stage.

Sarah Parkhouse receives funding from the British Academy.

Headline: Newhouse Secures $23 Million for Central Washington Infrastructure Projects

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-04) released the following statement upon committee passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

“Across Central Washington, there is a need to modernize, upgrade, and expand various infrastructure projects. I am proud to have secured over $23 million that will go directly to the Wenatchi Landing project, the Port of Quincy rail expansion, and recovery housing in Benton County. These projects will boost economic development, improve public safety, and allow local entities to provide quality services to those who rely on them. I look forward to working with Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, House leadership, and our Senators to get this funding signed into law,” said Rep. Newhouse.

The Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill provides a total discretionary allocation of $89.910 billion, which is $4.458 billion (4.7%) below the Fiscal Year 2025 enacted level. This legislation prioritizes air traffic control infrastructure, controller hiring, and transportation safety while maintaining essential housing assistance for our nation’s most vulnerable.

Rep. Newhouse secured funding for the following projects in Washington’s Fourth District in this legislation.

    Amount Secured: $2,500,00

Funding will expand the rail infrastructure on the northeast side of Quincy, WA, both within the Port’s current rail terminal and to nearby industrial zoned properties in the Port District. Once complete, the project will provide more freight mobility options to Pacific Northwest and Washington State agricultural and food shippers and exporters, attract industrial and manufacturing projects that will create family wage jobs, lessen wear and tear on freeways, highways and mountain passes by converting over-the-road freight to rail intermodal freight, and decrease fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

The Port of Warden Truck Access/Bypass Road Project

    Amount Secured: $2,500,000

This project is a multi-phase infrastructure initiative aimed at improving freight mobility, enhancing public safety, and supporting economic development in Warden, WA. The project involves constructing a dedicated truck access and bypass road that connects State Route 170 to the Port of Warden’s industrial properties in southwest Warden. This new roadway is designed to provide a more efficient route for trucks transporting goods to and from industrial facilities, allowing them to bypass residential neighborhoods.

    Three Rivers Recovery Housing Project

The completed project will contain up to 17 residential units which can house up to 35 residents. The project will also include spaces for individual and group counseling, entertainment for the residents, and training spaces for social skills and job placement assistance. Benton County is in the process of developing a comprehensive behavioral health recovery program that will serve its residents and those in the surrounding region and this project will help residents achieve lifelong recovery and avoid homelessness that often plagues people recovering from substance use disorders.

    Village of Hope

    Amount Secured: $4,265,000

Funding will be used to renovate 25 warehouse units, which currently serve up to 100 homeless individuals, and construct nine new units, which will serve up to 40 additional homeless individuals within the Village of Hope. The current application waiting list is up to 46 chronically homeless families within the community, and the number is rising. The project completion would address the unmet needs of the chronically homeless and provide vulnerable individuals and families on the Yakima reservation with resources, support, and guidance to minimize their barrier to finding permanent housing and improving their quality of life.

Port of Moses Lake Infrastructure Development Project

    Amount Secured: $600,000

Funding will be used to construct access to common areas surrounding Port of Moses Lake ramp access. Project elements include the construction of aircraft taxi lanes, vehicle access roads, and other site preparation. This work will facilitate public and private development in partnerships to meet the current and accelerating demand, which will in turn create new jobs and generate additional revenue, as well as supporting life and safety operations.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Norcross Votes ‘NO’ on Trump-Republican Cuts to Humanitarian Aid, Infectious Disease Prevention, Public Broadcasting

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Donald Norcross (1st District of New Jersey)

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ) voted against the Trump-Republican rescissions package to cut humanitarian aid, infectious disease prevention, and public broadcasting.

“I voted against the disastrous Trump-Republican cuts that would take away food from hungry kids, make it easier for infectious diseases to spread, make America less safe, and cut off rural communities’ access to emergency information and severe weather alerts. It’s a reckless bill that puts billionaires first and working families last,” said Congressman Donald Norcross. “The cuts do nothing to address the cost-of-living crisis and only continue the efforts by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to starve the American people of government resources and weaken the United States’ power on the world stage.”

The Trump-Republican Recissions Package would result in:

    • $1.1 billion in cuts to PBS funding, hurting families who rely on public TV and radio to support their children’s education and stay informed about the day’s news.
    • $500 million in cuts to USAID Global Health Programs that prevent the spread of infectious diseases across the world and into the U.S.

  • MIL-OSI Submissions: Bluetongue outbreak endangers UK livestock – what you need to know about the virus

Source: The Conversation – UK – By Cate Williams, Knowledge Exchange Fellow at Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences, Aberystwyth University

A tiny midge, no bigger than a pinhead, is bringing UK farming to its knees. The culprit? A strain of the bluetongue virus that’s never been seen before.

As of July 1, the whole of England has been classed as an “infected area” due to bluetongue virus serotype 3 (BTV-3).

There are movement restrictions and testing in place in Scotland, Wales and the island of Ireland. No animals from England – or that have passed through England – are allowed to attend this year’s Royal Welsh Show on July 21-24, for example.

Get your news from actual experts, straight to your inbox. Sign up to our daily newsletter to receive all The Conversation UK’s latest coverage of news and research, from politics and business to the arts and sciences.

The virus, which causes illness and death in sheep, cattle, goats and other ruminants, is spread by biting midges. Although it poses no risk to humans and can’t be transmitted from one animal to another, the latest outbreak is more severe than previous ones. And it could cause lasting damage to UK farming.

Bluetongue isn’t new to the UK, however. A different strain, BTV-8 was detected in 2007 and contained. But BTV-3 is a different story. First detected in the Netherlands in late 2023, it was quickly spotted in the UK, where an early containment effort initially appeared successful.

But the virus made a comeback in autumn 2024 – and this time it spread. On its second attempt, the virus was able to circulate and caused an outbreak. With little existing immunity, BTV-3 has now established itself, prompting concerns about animal welfare, food production and farming livelihoods.

    What does the disease do?

Sheep tend to be the most severely affected, though all ruminants are at risk. Clinical signs are species-specific but can include swelling of the face, congestion, nasal discharge, ulcers in the mouth and nose, difficulty breathing and abortion or birth deformities.

Bluetongue can cause the animal’s tongue to swell. It can also turn blue from lack of blood flow – although this is somewhat rare.

Bluetongue disease causes suffering in animals, and while there is a vaccine, there is no treatment for the disease once it’s contracted.

BTV-3 appears to be more lethal than earlier strains. In the Netherlands, vets report that BTV-3 is causing more severe symptoms than BTV-8 did.

Vets in England reported that in some herds 25-40% of cows failed to get pregnant, and there was a high rate of birth defects and stillborn calves. One farm in Suffolk started the calving season with 25% of their cows not pregnant and ended with just 48 calves from 97 cows.

Belgium has seen a fall in calf births, reduced milk deliveries and higher mortality in small ruminants compared to the previous three years.

    How is it spread?

Bluetongue virus is transmitted by midges from the Culicoides genus. These are tiny, biting insects that thrive in mild, wet conditions.

Multiple midges can bite the same animal, and it only takes one of them to carry BTV before that animal becomes a host for further transmission. When animals are transported long distances, infected individuals can be bitten again and introduce the virus to previously uninfected midge populations.

Climate change is making outbreaks like this more likely. Milder winters and cooler, wetter summers are ideal for midges, increasing both their numbers and their biting activity.

While there’s no danger to human health, the consequences of BTV-3 are far-reaching. Limitations on movement, exports and imports are being imposed to help prevent the spread of the disease, but this could also hamper farming practices and trade.

The disease and its associated restrictions pose another source of stress for farmers, 95% of whom have ranked mental health as the biggest hidden problem in farming.

    Genetic pick and mix

One of the reasons bluetongue is so tricky to manage is its ability to evolve. It has a segmented genome, meaning its genetic material, in this case RNA, is split into ten segments. This characteristic is exclusive to “reassortment viruses” and means that they can easily exchange segments of RNA. It’s like a genetic pick and mix with ten different types of sweets that come in an unlimited number of flavours.

This allows BTV to create new, genetically distinct “serotypes”, which may have a selective advantage or a disadvantage. Those with an advantage will emerge and spread successfully, while those with a disadvantage will not emerge at all. This process, known as “reassortment”, is partly responsible for the numerous influenza pandemics throughout history and has even allowed diseases to jump the species barrier.

Although bluetongue doesn’t affect humans directly, its spread poses a growing threat to the UK’s livestock sector and food supply. It’s important to learn from other countries that are further along in the BTV-3 outbreak so that the likely effects can be anticipated in the UK.

Cate Williams does not work for, consult, own shares in or receive funding from any company or organisation that would benefit from this article, and has disclosed no relevant affiliations beyond their academic appointment.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Man who travelled to Syria convicted of terrorism offence

Source: United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police

A man has been convicted of travelling to Syria with the intention of committing acts of terrorism, following an investigation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.

Isa Giga, 32 (11.02.1993), previously of Hounslow, west London, was arrested at Heathrow Airport on 23 May 2024 after he caught a flight back from Turkey.

Met counter terrorism police had been notified in 2018 that Giga had travelled to Syria, via Turkey, to fight for the Jaysh Al Fath group, which was part of an alliance of Islamist armed factions fighting in the Syrian civil war, including an Al-Qaeda affiliated group.

Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command said: “We have been clear for some time now that anyone returning to the UK suspected of being involved in any terrorist-related activity overseas will be thoroughly investigated.

We work very closely with other partners and agencies here in the UK and overseas in order to do this and help keep the public safe.

“As this case shows, we will always arrest those who return to the UK after fighting for a terrorist group, no matter how long it has been since they left the country. “

Giga was convicted on 18 July of an offence contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act, 2006 after a two-week trial at the Old Bailey.

The jury heard Giga flew from Heathrow to Istanbul on 7 September 2015 and then took a connecting flight to Adana in the south of Turkey. From there he crossed the border into Syria.

Evidence gathered by Met counter terrorism officers included emails and social media messages from Giga’s family, which proved he had travelled to Syria to ‘fight for Jihad’.

This was also matched with flight passenger records and transactions from his bank account.

Further evidence was gathered from messages Giga sent on a social media messaging platform to an undercover officer in June 2016. Giga explains how he “never knew about jihad until 2015” when ISIS took control of parts of Syria.

Giga said he supported ‘Nusra’, part of the Jaysh Al Fath group, and ‘wanted martyrdom very soon in the first row’ (the battlefield in Syria).

He will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on 17 October.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Man jailed for life for murder of Derek Thomas

Source: United Kingdom London Metropolitan Police

A man has been jailed for life for murdering 55-year-old Derek Thomas, who was stabbed outside his home in Hackney last year.

On Monday, 7 July, Kamar Williams, 34 (21.01.91) of West Ferry Road, E14 was found guilty of murder and possession of an offensive weapon following a trial at the Old Bailey.

On Friday, 18 July a judge at the same court sentenced Williams to life in prison, with a minimum term of 29 years.

The court heard how, in the early evening of Tuesday, 30 July 2024 Williams sent threatening text messages to Derek’s daughter, warning her to “watch this space.”

Hours later, CCTV captured Williams driving a grey van along Benthal Road, N16. He stopped directly outside Derek’s home. Williams was wearing a pair of reflective trainers, which made him easily identifiable throughout the CCTV footage.

Williams was seen pacing along Benthal Road, loitering near Derek’s home, before disappearing out of shot. Moments later, he returned to his van and drove away at 23:03hrs.

At 23:04hrs, police received a 999 call from a member of the public reporting that a man had been stabbed with a ‘very big knife.’ Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended, but despite their best efforts, Derek died at the scene.

Detective Inspector John Marriott, who led the investigation, said: “This was a brutal and premeditated attack on a much-loved father. Kamar Williams showed clear intent that night, driving to Derek’s home, waiting for the right moment, and carrying out this senseless act of violence.

“The swift response from our officers, combined with extensive CCTV, forensic work, and determination from our investigation team, led to his arrest and conviction.

“Our thoughts remain with Derek’s family, who have shown immense strength throughout this ordeal.”

Following the conviction, Derek’s family said:

“Derek will be greatly missed by his family and friends, he was a dedicated family man and worked hard to provide for them. He was the life and soul of the family. Derek was always on hand to provide support, knowledge, advice and was a calming influence when it was required. His passing has left a massive hole in the lives of his wife, children, grandchildren, family and all that knew him. He was greatly loved by all and will never be forgotten.”

The investigation progressed rapidly. On Thursday, 1 August 2024 police were contacted about an abandoned grey van on Langford Close, E8. Inside, officers recovered a bank card belonging to Williams from the driver’s seat, directly linking him to the vehicle.

Analysis of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition system showed that the van had travelled multiple times between the crime scene and Williams’ home address.

Enquiries at a local hospital also revealed that Williams had sought treatment for a 5cm cut to his left knee on 31 July, the day after the murder — further evidence tying him to the violent incident.

Williams repeatedly attempted to evade police. On Saturday, 3 August traffic officers tried to stop a silver BMW on Burnt Ash Hill, SE9 but the driver made off. It was later established that Williams was behind the wheel.

In a further effort to avoid arrest, Williams left London temporarily. However, following a manhunt, officers identified and arrested him within the footprint of Notting Hill Carnival on 26 August 2024. He was charged with murder the following day.

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: Double win for Plymouth’s City Centre regeneration at construction awards

    Source: City of Plymouth

Plymouth’s city centre is shining brighter than ever after Old Town Street and New George Street scooped two major awards at last night’s prestigious Constructing Excellence South West Awards.

Events and musical performances on newly transformed Old Town Street and New George Street have attracted huge crowds

The transformative public realm project was crowned Infrastructure Project of the Year and also took home the award for Integration and Collaborative Working which is a true testament to the power of teamwork, vision, and sheer determination.

This once tired and run-down part of the city has been reborn as a vibrant, welcoming hub that’s drawing in visitors, boosting local businesses, and attracting exciting new brands to Plymouth. Delivered in a live, complex and historic environment, the project has already made a huge impact – footfall is surging and unit occupancy is on the rise.

Old Town Street and New George Street are already being used to host regular markets and musical performances, which have proven to be incredibly popular with locals and visitors alike. These events are breathing even more life into the area and showcasing the space’s potential as a cultural and community hotspot.

This project wasn’t just about looks, it was delivered with care, precision and real community impact. An impressive £4.2 million was reinvested into the local supply chain, with 82 per cent of the workforce hired from within 20 miles of the site, ensuring that the benefits of regeneration were felt directly by local people and businesses. This strong local focus helped create jobs, support small enterprises, and build lasting skills in the community.

Councillor Tudor Evans, Leader of Plymouth City Council, said: “This is more than just paving stones and planting – it’s about breathing new life into the heart of our city. We’ve created a space that people want to spend time in, where families can meet, businesses can thrive, and visitors feel welcome. It’s a place that reflects the pride we have in Plymouth and the ambition we have for its future.

“Winning these two awards is a fantastic recognition of the hard work, collaboration and care that went into this project, but more importantly, it shows what’s possible when we invest in our city and our communities. And we’re not stopping here – this is just the beginning of something really special.”

  • MIL-OSI Africa: The Booker Washington Institute (BWI) automotive students restore and donate vehicle to enhance hands-on training

    Source: APO

    .

Senior automotive students at the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) have restored and donated a fully functional vehicle to their department, strengthening hands-on training for future students. As part of their final project, the class raised $800, purchased a non-running car, and successfully repaired it over four months, showcasing practical skills, teamwork, and leadership.

The project complements an existing training vehicle previously donated by the European Union (EU) through the Youth Rising project, addressing a major gap in practical resources. With 42 students in the senior automotive class, one vehicle was insufficient to provide adequate hands-on training. The student-led initiative to acquire and restore an additional car significantly boosts the department’s capacity to deliver real-world technical skills.

“As senior students, we are expected to leave behind a meaningful project as our legacy,” said Julie M. Soe, a member of the class. “We came together, discussed our options, and decided to buy and repair a vehicle. It wasn’t easy. The car had major issues with the engine, lights, oil system, and brakes. But we stayed focused, worked as a team, and today we’re proud to hand it over to the department.”

“During our first year, we had no proper workshop and worked outside in the sun,” added Samuel P. Borbor, senior student and chair of the class project committee. “Now, with EU support, we have a workshop, tools, and a brand-new vehicle. This motivated us to take on our own project. Having two vehicles instead of one makes a huge difference. It allows us to actually practice what we learn, and I even got to use the electronic fault scanning machine for the first time.”

Instructors praised the students for their initiative and commitment. “The confidence I had in these students has been fully justified,” said John Charlie, an automotive instructor at BWI. “Seeing them select, plan, and execute this project on a live engine is a dream come true. It shows they are ready for the industry.”

“This project clearly demonstrated teamwork, problem-solving, and responsibility, qualities every good technician needs,” added Worlubah Mulbah, another instructor. “Their cooperation and willingness to share ideas were impressive.”

Since 2018, the European Union (EU), through its Youth Rising project implemented by UNIDO, has supported Liberia’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. The project focuses on renovating facilities, training instructors, providing tools and equipment, and updating curricula to deliver high-quality, market-relevant technical education. At BWI, this support included renovated workshops, new training vehicle, modern hand tools/equipment, and electronic diagnostic equipment, creating a strong foundation for practical learning.

With this additional student-restored vehicle, BWI’s automotive department is now better equipped to prepare graduates for the job market. Instructors plan to replicate similar student-led projects with future classes, ensuring continuous improvement of hands-on learning and fostering a culture of initiative and innovation among Liberia’s future technicians.

  • MIL-OSI: American Rebel Light Beer Roars Back to Eldora Speedway For The 42nd Annual Kings Royal Race Week

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

One Year Later, America’s Patriotic Beer Returns to Eldora Speedway – Bigger, Bolder, and Still Raising a Cold Beer to Hardcore Racing Fans

NASHVILLE, TN, July 18, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — American Rebel Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: AREB) (“American Rebel” or the “Company”), creator of American Rebel Beer (americanrebelbeer.com) and a designer, manufacturer, and marketer of branded safes (championsafe.com), personal security and self-defense products and apparel, is revved up to return to Eldora Speedway for the 42nd Annual Kings Royal Race Week. Known for high horsepower, heart-pounding action, and some of the most passionate racing fans in the country, Eldora provides the perfect backdrop for America’s Patriotic Beer to connect with its growing base of freedom-loving consumers. American Rebel Light Beer is proud to be in the mix as fans raise a cold one to celebrate grit, speed, and the American spirit.

From the Track to the Stage – American Rebel Light Beer is Building Brand Loyalty at the Heart of Americana. “Where Freedom Lives, American Rebel Pours”

American Rebel Light Beer is committed to building its brand at the grassroots level by showing up where patriotic Americans live, play, and celebrate their freedom. Authentic venues like Eldora Speedway—and similar motorsports and music destinations—are not just event spaces; they are cultural gathering points for our like-minded consumers. These fans embody the same values that define our brand: grit, loyalty, and unapologetic patriotism. By aligning with high-energy, Americana-rich events, we continue to drive exposure, foster brand loyalty, and grow our community of freedom-loving beer drinkers. We don’t just advertise to our customers—we meet them in the dirt, the stands, and the pit row with an ice-cold can of American Rebel Light in hand.

“Rebel Light (Beer) is back at Eldora—and this year, we’re louder, prouder, and packing even more punch,” said Andy Ross, CEO of American Rebel Holdings. “American Rebel Light Beer is America’s Patriotic, God-Fearing, Constitution-Loving, National Anthem Singing, Stand-Your-Ground Beer that Eldora’s die-hard race fans embraced with open arms. Last year was electric. This year, we’re redlining the throttle—with more brand horsepower, more ice-cold beer, and more American pride than ever before. This is where freedom lives—and we’re proud to be pouring it right in the heart of racing country”

Established in 1954 by racing pioneer Earl Baltes, Eldora Speedway (eldoraspeedway.com) quickly became a cornerstone of American dirt track racing. In 2004, three-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Tony Stewart purchased the track, bringing his deep passion for grassroots motorsports to one of the sport’s most revered venues. Under Stewart’s ownership, Eldora entered a new era—hosting marquee events like the Kings Royal, World 100, and Dirt Late Model Dream, while undergoing major upgrades to elevate the fan and driver experience.

Stewart doesn’t just own Eldora—he raced it, lived it, and transformed it. His leadership helped solidify the track’s reputation as the beating heart of dirt racing in America. Today, as proud sponsors of Tony Stewart Racing, American Rebel Light Beer stands alongside a team and a legacy that reflect the same bold, unapologetic spirit found in every can of Rebel Light.

“Eldora isn’t just a race—it’s a ritual,” said Todd Porter, President of American Rebel Beverage. “It’s where fans come to celebrate grit, loyalty, and the kind of Americana that’s in our DNA. We’re proud to be part of the Kings Royal legacy and deliver a beer that reflects those values in every pour.”

America’s Fastest-Growing Patriotic Beer – American Rebel Light

  • MIL-OSI Europe: ASIA/CHINA – “Vincentian Tea,” relief for the body and soul for those who work in Zhejiang’s scorching summer

Source: Agenzia Fides – MIL OSI

    xinde.org

Ningbo (Agenzia Fides) – Saint Vincent de Paul bore witness to Christ’s charity by offering food to the hungry and care for the sick in 17th-century France. Today, following in his footsteps, the parishioners of the Longwan Church dedicated to him, in the diocese of Wenzhou, offer a cup of fresh tea to those who must work hours and hours outdoors in the Chinese coastal province of Zhejiang. Food delivery workers, postmen, bricklayers, and messengers of various kinds have had to work even on the so-called “dog days,” the 30 hottest days of the year, when the humid heat becomes oppressive and everything becomes more tiring. The fresh tea offered by the parish community to all those in need of refreshment has become a simple and appreciated sign of how Christian charity recognizes and embraces the needs, even physical needs, of all. In winter, in the same parish, those suffering from the cold can always find a steaming cup of hot tea. The parish of Longwan has become famous for its concern in bearing witness to and proclaiming faith in Jesus, also through many social works. In addition to the distribution of “Vincentian tea,” members of the parish community maintain a service of regular, free medical visits for those most in need. They also organize sacred music concerts, pilgrimages, and social gatherings for groups of the elderly, young people, and children. All of this is also inspired by devotion to the Patron Saint Vincent de Paul, in accordance with the ever-helpful suggestion of the Didache: “Seek the faces of the Saints every day and find rest in their words.” (NZ) (Agenzia Fides, 18/7/2025)

  • MIL-OSI China: Global automakers seek deeper integration into China’s smart supply chains

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

As global supply chains undergo digital transformation, major automakers are looking to deepen their integration into China’s advanced manufacturing and smart supply chain systems.

At the ongoing China International Supply Chain Expo in Beijing, industry leaders underscored how China’s maturing electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, technological depth and industrial scale are shaping the next phase of global automotive production.

For Tesla, China is not just a market; it has become a core pillar of its global supply chain strategy. The company’s Shanghai Gigafactory, now producing one vehicle roughly every 30 seconds, has achieved a 95 percent local parts integration rate for its Model 3 and Model Y lines.

The company said the factory’s output accounted for nearly half of Tesla’s global deliveries as of June, with over 3 million vehicles having rolled off its assembly lines since its launch.

Beyond vehicle production, Tesla is expanding into energy storage with its first overseas Megapack factory, also located in Shanghai. Officially launched in February 2025, the facility was built and operational in just nine months, with an annual production capacity of 40 GWh. Megapacks from this factory are now being exported to markets across the Asia-Pacific, further embedding Tesla into China’s smart energy supply networks.

“China has the world’s most complete EV (electric vehicle) supply chain, with top-tier local suppliers and highly responsive manufacturing capabilities,” an unnamed Tesla spokesperson told Xinhua.

He added that China’s large talent pool in artificial intelligence (AI), EV engineering and advanced manufacturing has become essential to Tesla’s localized R&D.

“Whether it’s supply chain resilience, innovation capacity or market scale, China continues to offer unique advantages,” said the spokesperson.

German auto supplier Bosch shared similar views. The company presented its localized innovations in electrified powertrains and driving assistance systems at the expo, emphasizing the rapid technology iteration happening in China.

“China leads the way in electrification, intelligence and the shift to software-defined vehicles,” said David Xu, president of Bosch China. “Its consumers adopt new technologies quickly, which drives faster product evolution and continuous innovation in the auto sector.”

Bosch is advancing its R&D and production capacity in China, a strategy it views as critical for keeping pace with the country’s fast-moving automotive market.

Swedish carmaker Volvo returned to the expo for the third consecutive year. Sandra Liu, vice president of government affairs at Volvo Cars Asia Pacific, said the expo offers “a platform to promote collaboration across supply chain tiers, foster interaction among companies of all sizes, and integrate industry, academia and research.”

Volvo’s booth featured the newly launched S90 and its flagship electric SUV EX90, in a bid to engage global supply chain partners and demonstrate the brand’s commitment to high-quality growth and sustainable mobility.

With geopolitical uncertainty still clouding global trade, China’s combination of industrial depth and digital infrastructure is seen as a stabilizing force.

As electrification, automation and digitalization reshape the global auto industry, integration into China’s supply chain is no longer optional — it is strategic.

  • MIL-OSI: Beamr Reports Entering PoCs in Video Data Compression Solution for Autonomous Vehicle

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

Herzliya, Israel, July 18, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Beamr Imaging Ltd. (NASDAQ: BMR), a leader in video optimization technology and solutions, today announced a further update on its progress of validating Beamr content-adaptive, GPU-accelerated technology to the autonomous vehicles market following the initial successful launch of the Beamr solution for autonomous vehicles.

Over the past few months, Beamr engaged in multiple Proof of Concepts (PoCs) with autonomous vehicles system developers. Some of these PoCs were successful in further validating Beamr’s contribution to the autonomous vehicles (AV) industry.

The Beamr solution for autonomous vehicles demonstrates that it is not just keeping the visual quality of the video being perceptually identical to a human viewer, but also keeps the Machine Learning (ML) results stable to the extent that using video compression with Beamr Content-Adaptive Bitrate technology (CABR) yields 20%-50% saving on video used in the training process of such autonomous vehicles’ ML model without compromising the model’s results.

“We are encouraged by the progress that we have made so far with our AV offering, which has already been proven with successful PoCs with AV systems developers. We believe that this indicates the use of Beamr technology is indeed applicable to such fast growing markets, like the AV market.” said Sharon Carmel, founder and CEO of Beamr

In the development of autonomous driving, video is the dominant data type. A single vehicle produces terabytes of video data daily. Training a single autonomous model may require tens to hundreds of petabytes, which is a costly challenge for autonomous vehicles and machine learning teams and which requires managing video data at scale, long-term storage and significant infrastructure investment.

  • MIL-OSI Analysis: Chimamanda’s Lagos homecoming wasn’t just a book launch, it was a cultural moment

Source: The Conversation – Global Perspectives – By Tinashe Mushakavanhu, Assistant Professor, Harvard University

When the announcement of Chimamanda Adichie Ngozi’s latest novel Dream Count was made, it was regarded as a major event in African literature. The internationally celebrated Nigerian writer had not published a novel in the past 12 years, and her long-awaited return stirred both anticipation and speculation. In the post-COVID context in which the book comes, so much has changed in the world.

The first leg of her three city homecoming book tour coincided with my stay in Lagos as a curatorial fellow at Guest Artist Space Foundation, dedicated to facilitating cultural exchange and supporting creative practices. After Lagos, Chimamanda took the tour to Nigeria’s capital city Abuja and finally Enugu, where she was born and grew up.

    Read more:
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s new book Dream Count explores love in all its complicated messiness

As a scholar of African literature, I arrived here in search of literary Lagos. But my attachment to the city may also just be romantic, a nostalgia born out of years of reading about it in fiction. No doubt, Lagos is a city of imagination and creativity.

Chimamanda’s book event was a reminder that literary celebrity, when it happens in Africa, can exist on its own terms. It’s rooted in a popular imaginary that embraces both the writer and the spectacle.

    Lagos superstar

The launch in Lagos took place at a conference centre on the evening of Friday 27 June. The MUSON is a multipurpose civic auditorium located in the centre of Lagos Island which can accommodate up to 1,000 guests. And on this night, the auditorium was packed.

When I arrive, the scene outside is buzzing. A crowd gathers in front of a large canvas banner bearing a radiant image of the author. It’s more than just decoration; it’s a backdrop. It is an occasion for the selfie, a digital marker that you were there. There is even a hashtag for this: #dreamcountlagos. People take turns posing in front of it, curating their presence in the frame of Chimamanda’s aura.

The atmosphere is festive, electric. And yet beneath the surface shimmer is something more urgent: a hunger for story, for presence, for return. Perhaps that explains why people come not just to witness, but to be counted.

Inside the lobby, piles of Chimamanda’s books are neatly arranged on long tables. People are not just buying a copy. They are buying several in the hope that the author will autograph them. The sight is striking, almost surreal. In many parts of the continent, a book launch is often a quiet affair. Writers are lucky to sell a handful of copies. But this is something else entirely. This is not just a book launch, it is a cultural moment.

It would have been easy to mistake the event for a political townhall. There was a VIP section reserved for the who’s who of Lagos, but those class distinctions easily dissolved into the collective energy of the room. The auditorium was filled with genuine enthusiasm.

Even after a delay of more than an hour, when Chimamanda finally walked in, she was met with rapturous applause. She wore a bright yellow dress, an Instagrammable outfit, suited for the many fans who rushed forward to take selfies with her. Chimamanda, no doubt, is as much a fashion icon as she is a literary figure.

On stage, she was joined by media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, widely known as the host of the reality TV show Big Brother Africa. But here, he was also something more intimate: the author’s friend. Chimamanda even credited him with being a “great reader”. This is a rare compliment in a literary world that often separates celebrity from critical engagement.

Their conversation was relaxed and full of laughter, offering the audience both intimacy and insight. Chimamanda addressed the question that had lingered for years: her decade-long silence. She spoke candidly of writer’s block, of the grief that came with losing both her parents in quick succession, and how that loss eventually reignited her desire to write.

Dream Count, she explained, is shaped by that rupture. It is one of the major post-COVID novels from Africa, and centres on the lives of four women. It is a book about love, friendship and independence.

    Africans do read

When she spoke about her characters on stage, it was as though she was talking about relatives that the audience recognised. They responded by shouting out the characters’ names, to the delight of the author.

When I asked people about the launch afterwards, many said that it was a very Nigerian event – big, colourful, exuberant, festive. It was indeed a celebration that felt communal, even joyous. It was also a public demonstration of how literature can still command space and attention, not just in private reading rooms or crammed bookstores, but on a civic scale.

    Read more:
Lagos fashion: how designers make global trends uniquely Nigerian

This was a remarkable event because it defied the tired cliché that Africans do not read. People, mostly young, came out in their hundreds. They bought books, they took selfies with their “favourite” author, they screamed the names of fictional characters as though greeting friends.

But more significant was Chimamanda’s choice to work with a local publisher, Narrative Landscape Press, which produced the Nigerian edition of Dream Count that is now available and accessible locally, at the same time as its release in Europe and North America. That alone is a radical act.

In returning to Nigeria to launch her book, Chimamanda also disrupts the assumption that African literary prestige must only be validated abroad. Even though she belongs to a cohort of African writers shaped by the diaspora, she actively insists on presence – on homecoming – not as simply nostalgia, but as active engagement.

Of course, Chimamanda is an exception. Her stature as a global literary figure, combined with her deep connection to home, allows her to move between worlds with remarkable ease. Few writers command the kind of multigenerational, cross-class attention she does. I found myself wishing though that more book launches could carry this same sense of occasion, of meaning, of return. That they could gather people in such numbers, not just to celebrate the writer, but to affirm the African book as something still worth gathering for.

And perhaps that is what made this book launch unforgettable: not just the celebrity or the spectacle, but the sense that literature still matters here, and that it belongs to the people.

  • MIL-OSI Analysis: Connie Francis was the voice of a generation and the soundtrack of post-war America

Source: The Conversation – Global Perspectives – By Leigh Carriage, Senior Lecturer in Music, Southern Cross University

    Hulton Archive/Getty Images

Connie Francis dominated the music charts in the late 1950s and early 1960s with hits like Stupid Cupid, Pretty Little Baby and Don’t Break the Heart That Loves You.

The pop star, author and actor has died at 87, and will be remembered for recording the soundtrack songs of post-World War II America.

    Francis photographed around 1963.
    Silver Screen Collection/Getty Images

    An early life of music

Francis was born Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero in Newark, New Jersey, to Italian immigrant parents. At a very early age, Francis was encouraged to take accordion and singing lessons, compete in talent shows, and later she would perform occasionally on the children’s production Star Time Kids on NBC, remaining there until she was 17.

Within these early recordings you can hear her style begin to develop: her tone, great pitching, her versatility in vocal range. Her vocal delivery is technically controlled and stylistically structured, often nuanced – and even at this early stage demonstrating such power coupled with an adaptability for a broad range of repertoire.

At 17, Francis signed a contract with MGM Records.

One of her early recordings was the song Who’s Sorry Now?, written by Ted Snyder with lyrics by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby in 1923. Her version was released in 1957 and struggled to get noticed.

The following year, Francis appeared with the ballad on American Bandstand. This performance exposed Francis’ talent for interpretation and her ability to bridge the teen and adult fanbase.

The song would become a hit.

It’s useful to listen to the original version to gain more insight into Francis’ vocal approach and styling. The original is an instrumental song of its time, with light whimsical call and response motives in a foxtrot feel.

But in Francis’ version, she demonstrates her ability to revitalise a late 1950s pop music aesthetic. In an emotional delivery she croons her own rendition, with the country styling elements of Patsy Cline.

    The voice of a generation

Following Who’s Sorry Now?, Stupid Cupid (1958), Where The Boys Are (1960, the titular song of a feature film starring Francis) and Lipstick on Your Collar (1959) became the soundtrack songs of post-war America.

Francis was supported with songs penned by the some of the best songwriters from the Brill Building, a creative collective in Manhattan that housed professional songwriters, working with staff writers Edna Lewis and George Goehring.

In 1960, Francis released her hit Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool written by Jack Keller and Howard Greenfield. It was a teeny-bopper classic, and she became the first women to top the Billboard Hot 100.

Francis records in the studio with Freddy Quinn at MGM in 1963 in New York.
    PoPsie Randolph/Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images

Styled after some of the other greats of the time – such as Frank Sinatra (1915–98), Dean Martin (1917–95) and Louis Prima (1910–70) – Francis’ performance on the Ed Sullivan show highlighted her connection to her Italian heritage and ability to draw from a broad repertoire.

On the show, she performed Mama and La Paloma. Each performance is very carefully styled, a thoughtful approach to dynamics, sung in both English and Italian.

Don’t Break the Heart That Loves You, a number one hit from 1962, features Francis’ gorgeous crooning harmonies. Then, the song breaks down into an earnest spoken part and finishes with a powerful belted vocal part of long notes.

The song is full of confidence and hope.

    Away from the microphone

Francis had two key roles in films, starring in Where the Boys Are (1960) and the comedy Follow the Boys (1963).

She was an author of two books. The second, Who’s Sorry Now?, became a New York Times bestseller.

Francis was involved with humanitarian causes. She was particularly involved with Women Against Rape, following her own violent rape in 1974, and the Valour Victims Assistance Legal Organisation, dedicated to supporting the legal rights of crime victims. A lesser known song in her repertoire, fitting to include here, is her version of Born Free from 1968.

As a singer, Francis worked at her craft and transitioned effortlessly from one genre to another, performing for over five decades. She will be remembered as a trailblazing solo artist, leaving a strong legacy in popular music culture.

She was the voice of one generation when she was a star. And in her final year she became the voice of a new generation as Pretty Little Baby, released in 1962, went viral on TikTok, with more than 1.4 million videos using her voice to share stories of their lives.

Francis performs in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 2009.

The ceremonial opening of the annual Summer Project School for students of Rosneft Classes took place at the University Gymnasium of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. The training will involve 80 tenth-graders from 15 regions of Russia – they passed a competitive selection, which included multi-stage testing and a distance learning course.

The Summer Project School is a joint project of Rosneft and Moscow State University, created to support talented youth. The event is being held for the fourth time. The training helps schoolchildren acquire basic knowledge in the field of project and research activities, as well as practical skills in team development and implementation of projects, including in key areas of the Company’s activities.

For two weeks, schoolchildren will work in project groups in four areas: mathematics, engineering, geology and natural science. To get acquainted with the activities of Rosneft, schoolchildren will visit the Arctic Research Center, as well as the laboratories of the Company’s Joint Research and Development Center. Specialists will tell schoolchildren about Rosneft’s key scientific projects. In addition, the program includes visits to specialized faculties and museums of Lomonosov Moscow State University and Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas.

For the participants of the Summer School, trainings on the development of professional and personal skills, creative master classes, as well as sports and entertainment events will be organized.

Career guidance events will help high school students decide on their future profession. Based on the results of their studies at the Summer School, students will present their own projects.

    Reference:

In order to form an external personnel reserve and a constant influx of highly educated young specialists into the Company, in 2005 Rosneft created a corporate system of continuous education “School – College/University – Enterprise”.

Today, with the Company’s support, 2.7 thousand schoolchildren in 20 regions of Russia study in Rosneft Classes. The training is conducted according to programs with in-depth study of mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science with the involvement of the best teachers.

    Press release

SFO freezes over 10K in crypto assets from Arena TV’s CEO

SFO has frozen £10,865.76 in Bitcoin and  £289.30 in USDC (value at the time of freezing) in cryptocurrency belonging to Arena TV’s CEO, Richard Yeowart.

The Serious Fraud Office has frozen equivalent to £10,865.76 in Bitcoin and £289.30 USDC belonging to Richard Yeowart, a suspect in its ongoing investigation into collapsed outside broadcast company Arena TV. This is the first time the agency has used new powers that came into force last year to freeze cryptocurrency.

The assets, identified by proceeds of crime specialists at the SFO as linked to suspected criminality, were frozen following a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this week.

They will now be held for up to nine months to allow any affected parties to come forward.

The SFO’s case, which remains ongoing, has so far involved a raid, three arrests and the search of three properties in an investigation involving a range of suspects.

Director of Operations, Emma Luxton, said:

We are committed to using every tool at our disposal to prevent criminals from benefitting from their crimes, wherever they hide their assets.

Our first Crypto Wallet Freezing Order is an important step as we build our crypto asset capability and signals our intentions as we adapt to tackle increasingly sophisticated attempts to hide criminal assets.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: “Immersive Hong Kong” roving exhibition opens in Qingdao (with photos)

Source: Hong Kong Government special administrative region – 4

The “Immersive Hong Kong” roving exhibition, organised by the Information Services Department (ISD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government  to showcase the diversity and latest developments of Hong Kong through interactive art technology, opened in Qingdao today (July 18).

Co-organised by the Shandong Liaison Unit of the HKSAR Government, the exhibition, themed “Hong Kong – Where the World Looks Ahead”, invites visitors from Qingdao and the entire Shandong Province to explore the unique opportunities and potential for tourism, education, business and investment in Hong Kong.

The exhibition enables visitors to delve into different virtual scenes representing the city, with a creative twist. The five thematic zones, namely “Financial Bridgehead”, “I&T Brain Bank”, “Blossoming Creativity”, “Diversity and Greenery” and “Buzzing Sports Action”, feature multiple interactive art projections, light box installations and naked-eye 3D displays, representing the distinctive appeal of Hong Kong.

Visitors may also enjoy Hong Kong’s vibrant and colourful skyline, illustrated by Hong Kong artist Messy Desk (Jane Lee), at a photo corner in the venue. Promotional videos on Hong Kong and digital panels presenting information about the city, as well as insights from Mainland companies about their experiences in Hong Kong, are also on display, highlighting why the city is one of the most desirable places to visit, study, live, work and invest.

Speaking at the opening ceremony today, the Director of Information Services, Mrs Apollonia Liu, said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Summit organised by the HKSAR, and that three node cities along the Belt and Road on the Mainland were specially selected to hold the exhibition. The first stop was successfully held in Shanghai last month, attracting more than 180 000 visitors, while Qingdao is the second stop, to be followed by Chengdu.

She said, “The eligible cities of the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) expanded to Qingdao in March last year, enabling residents of Qingdao to explore Hong Kong in a more flexible and convenient manner. In addition to deepening exchanges and fostering cultural integration and people-to-people bonds between the two cities, IVS tourists also represent an important force in driving the business of tourism-related industries in Hong Kong.”

Mrs Liu added that, although Hong Kong and Qingdao are far apart geographically, the two cities are in fact within arm’s reach. They are linked by multiple direct flights operating daily, with a flight time of just over three hours. This offers an excellent foundation for the two cities to further deepen tourism co-operation, promote resource sharing, and facilitate the two-way flow of visitors.

Introducing the highlights of the exhibition, Mrs Liu said a “Buzzing Sports Action” thematic zone has been set up, serving as pre-event publicity for the 15th National Games to be cohosted by Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macao in November this year. The cultural and tourism appeal, as well as the latest developments of Hong Kong, is also shown in a comprehensive manner through naked-eye 3D displays and interactive games.

Mrs Liu expressed hope that the exhibition would provide an opportunity for friends from Qingdao to experience Hong Kong’s charm from different aspects, sparking their interest to learn more about Hong Kong and visit the city.

To give Qingdao audiences a taste of Hong Kong’s cultural offerings, a wind instrument performance by two young Hong Kong music talents – the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra Suona Principal Ma Wai-him and pianist Aaron Leung – will be staged at the exhibition venue on July 19 and 20.

During the exhibition, an interactive game, “Snap a cool shot @Immersive Hong Kong”, will offer attractive prizes sponsored by Cathay Pacific for two winners. The winner of the Grand Prize will receive a pair of round-trip business class air tickets from Qingdao to Hong Kong, while the runner-up will receive a pair of round-trip economy class air tickets on the same itinerary.

The exhibition is being held at Lion Mall, a major shopping centre in Qingdao, until July 27. Admission is free.

Qingdao is the seventh stop of the exhibition, following its successful staging in a total of six cities in Mainland China, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and the Middle East between July 2023 and June 2025.

Supporting organisations of the exhibition include the Belt and Road Office of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, Hong Kong Talent Engage, Cathay Pacific, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and the Kai Tak Sports Park.

More information on the exhibition is available on the dedicated page on the Brand Hong Kong website and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai website.
