Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) 81st Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the plenary session of the World Air Transport Summit (WATS) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, emphasizing India’s emergence as a global leader in aviation and space convergence. Marking the return of the IATA AGM to India after 42 years, Modi showcased the transformative growth of India’s aviation sector, calling it a hub of policy leadership, innovation, and inclusive development.

“Today, India is emerging as a leading force in the global space-aviation convergence,” Modi declared, highlighting the sector’s historic advancements over the past decade. He described India as the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market, with 240 million passengers annually, surpassing the population of most countries. By 2030, this figure is projected to reach 500 million, with air cargo expected to grow from 3.5 million metric tons to 10 million metric tons by the decade’s end.

PM Modi underscored the success of the UDAN scheme, which has enabled over 15 million passengers, many first-time flyers, to access affordable air travel, calling it a “golden chapter” in Indian aviation history. He highlighted the expansion of operational airports from 74 in 2014 to 162 today, with an annual passenger handling capacity of 500 million. Indian carriers have ordered over 2,000 new aircraft, signaling robust growth, while the Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) sector has grown from 96 facilities in 2014 to 154, bolstered by 100% FDI, GST reductions, and tax rationalization.

The Prime Minister outlined three pillars driving India’s aviation sector: a vast, aspirational market; a young, innovative talent pool excelling in AI, robotics, and clean energy; and a supportive policy ecosystem. He highlighted the Protection of Interest in Aircraft Objects Bill, aligning India with the Cape Town Convention, and incentives at Gift City, making India an attractive destination for global aircraft leasing companies. The new Indian Aircraft Act, Modi noted, streamlines regulations and simplifies taxes, presenting significant investment opportunities for international aviation firms.

PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to sustainability, with investments in sustainable aviation fuels and green technologies to reduce the carbon footprint. He showcased the Digi Yatra app, a paperless, facial-verification-based travel solution, as a model for the Global South, enhancing safety, efficiency, and user experience. “India’s innovations in serving a large population can benefit many countries,” he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted India’s inclusive aviation model, with women comprising 15% of pilots—three times the global average—and 86% of cabin crew, surpassing the global 70% benchmark. Women engineers in the MRO sector also exceed global averages. Modi further noted the role of drone technology in empowering women’s self-help groups in agriculture and delivery services, fostering financial and social inclusion.

Reaffirming India’s commitment to global aviation standards, PM Modi cited alignment with ICAO regulations and the adoption of the Delhi Declaration at the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference. He endorsed the Chicago Convention’s principles for open skies and global connectivity, urging stakeholders to ensure air travel is accessible, affordable, and secure.

PM Modi positioned India as a value-chain leader in global aviation, from design to delivery, encouraging companies to embrace “Make in India” and “Design in India.” With a goal to establish a $4 billion MRO hub by 2030, he invited global aviation leaders to invest in India’s rapidly growing sector, which is creating jobs for pilots, crew, engineers, and ground staff.

  • MIL-OSI Security: 282 charged in new cases related to SDTX’s continuing efforts to secure southern border

Source: United States Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF)

HOUSTON – In support of Operation Take Back America, the Southern District of Texas has filed another 281 cases in immigration and border security-related matters from May 23-29, announced U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.

Among those are 105 people who face charges of illegally reentering the country. The majority have prior felony convictions for narcotics, violent crime, sexual offenses, prior immigration crimes and more. A total of 163 people are charged with illegally entering the country, while seven cases allege various instances of human smuggling with the remainder involving other immigration crimes, child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and firearms.

One such person charged this week is Carlos Enrique Gonzalez-Pena, an alien present in the United States with a work visa who was allegedly found in possession of CSAM. The charges allege he had visited the darknet where he viewed child pornography sites. A forensic examination of his computer allegedly resulted in the discovery of two video files involving a female child approximately four to six years of age, one of which showed her being sexually assaulted. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.

Another one of the cases involves Humberto Vasquez – a Mexican male who allegedly attempted to exit the United States via the Donna Port of Entry. Upon inspection, law enforcement discovered four pistols belonging to him as well as 870 rounds of assorted ammunition, according to the charges. The complaint alleges he did not possess an export license that would authorize him to transport such items into Mexico and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of illegal exportation of firearms.

Authorities also found three Mexican nationals near Mission this week with no legal permission to be in the United States, according to the complaints against them. Victor Manuel Ornelas-Ochoa, Alfredo Samuel Gallegos-Esquivel and Exequiel Solano had allegedly been previously removed from the country and have felonies to include possession with intent to deliver marijuana, human smuggling and aggravated sexual assault of a child, respectively. They are all charged with illegal reentry and could receive up to 20 years in prison. Another man who faces the same charges and penalty is Julio Sanchez-Lorenzo. He is a Mexican male who had just been removed from the United States via Brownsville May 21 with no permission to return, according to the charges. However, authorities allegedly found him just six days later near Roma.

In addition to the new cases, a federal jury in Houston convicted a Mexican citizen for illegally reentering the United States under an assumed identity. On June 11, 2024, authorities found Jose Martin Valdez-Galvan in Laredo. At that time, he provided a false name and claimed to be a U.S. citizen. Testimony revealed Valdez-Galvan originally stole the person’s identity to avoid previous charges for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Valdez-Galvan was an illegal alien who had been previously removed but returned to the United States without permission. He had assumed the other person’s identity in 2015 after his second removal. He faces up to a 20-year prison sentence.

“Both public safety and basic common sense require us to know who is entering and residing in our country. Those that adopt false or stolen personas to hide their identities pose an increased criminal risk to our community,” said Ganjei. “Theft of an American citizen’s identity by a foreign national will not be tolerated, and those that engage in such criminality will be charged, punished, and, if appropriate, deported.”

In Corpus Christi, an intoxicated driver admitted he was an alien illegally in possession of firearm. Honduran national Josias Eliseo Ulloa-Pavon had been driving under the influence of alcohol before crashing Feb. 18. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities found him pinned inside the fully overturned vehicle. He had red bloodshot eyes, appeared unsteady on his feet and had a strong odor of alcohol. A search revealed a magazine containing six rounds of ammunition in his pocket and a Bersa Model Thunder .380 caliber pistol in his car.

Two men from Brownfield admitted to conspiring to transport illegal aliens in Laredo federal court this week. On March 22, authorities observed a Ford Expedition circumventing a Border Patrol (BP) checkpoint near Laredo. Mac Quese Howard was driving, and De Richardson Miller was in the front passenger seat providing directions. Authorities conducted a traffic stop and found three illegal aliens hidden in the back seat. Miller and Howard admitted they had travelled to Laredo for the sole purpose of picking up the aliens and transporting them to San Antonio for payment.

Also announced was the sentencing of a Mexican national with a felony criminal history and multiple prior removals for illegally reentering the country again. Juan Humberto Lara Molina’s has a lengthy drug, weapons and immigration criminal history including two other illegal reentry convictions. He was also convicted of dealing cocaine in Indiana and unlawful sale of firearms in Illinois and was previously ordered removed from the United States on multiple occasions, most recently in November 2021. However, law enforcement discovered him at the Falfurrias BP checkpoint Dec. 12, 2024. He was one of seven individuals being transported farther north by human smugglers in a tractor-trailer. He was ordered to serve 24 months in federal prison.

These cases were referred or supported by federal law enforcement partners, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – Homeland Security Investigations, ICE – Enforcement and Removal Operations, BP, Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with additional assistance from state and local law enforcement partners.

The cases are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.

Under current leadership, public safety and a secure border are the top priorities for this district. Enhanced enforcement both at the border and in the interior of the district have yielded aliens engaged in unlawful activity or with serious criminal history, including human trafficking, sexual assault and violence against children.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas remains one of the busiest in the nation. It represents 43 counties and more than nine million people covering 44,000 square miles. Assistant U.S. Attorneys from all seven divisions including Houston, Galveston, Victoria, Corpus Christi, Brownsville, McAllen and Laredo work directly with our law enforcement partners on the federal, state and local levels to prosecute the suspected offenders of these and other federal crimes.

An indictment or criminal complaint is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence. A defendant is presumed innocent unless convicted through due process of law.

  • MIL-OSI Global: Debunking 5 myths about when your devices get wet

Source: The Conversation – USA – By Rachel Plotnick, Associate Professor of Cinema and Media Studies, Indiana University

Consumer technologies get wet as a regular part of everyday life. Shuvro Mojumder/Unsplash , CC BY-SA

Nearly everyone has encountered the unthinkable: Your smartphone landed in the toilet. Or you forgot to take off your smartwatch before jumping into the pool. Or maybe you meant to take those earbuds out of your pocket before running the laundry. What now?

Internet forums are chock-full of advice to dry out that drenched device, but problematic myths about liquid protection and repair make it hard for consumers to separate fact from fiction.

I’m a researcher who studies how technologies play a part in people’s everyday practices and experiences. My new book, “License to Spill: Where Dry Devices Meet Liquid Lives,” explores the wet-dry boundary in how people perceive and treat their electronic devices.

Here are five common myths about getting devices wet:

Myth 1: My device turned back on! It’s fine

While it’s a relief to see your technology rise from the dead, what you can’t see are subtle processes occurring inside, like corrosion. The breakdown of your device’s metal parts due to moisture often happens over time, in a period that can take place days, weeks or months after the offending incident.

That’s why even humidity from moist climates or your steamy shower can make a long-term impact, despite the fact that everything booted up right away after a splash or dunk.

Myth 2: My ‘waterproof’ device can tolerate any kind of wetness

The term “waterproof” is a controversial one – so controversial, in fact, that the Federal Trade Commission has strict rules about using the term in advertising, once even banning it from ad copy selling wristwatches.

Given the vagueness of the term, it’s better to examine different water resistance standards, such as ingress protection, or IP, ratings and MIL-SPEC, or ISO in the case of watches, and to read the fine print about what those standards actually cover.

Myth 3: My device has a great IP rating, so it’s been tested under real-world conditions

Companies often advertise IP ratings as a way to entice consumers to purchase their products, but it’s important to know that these ratings are based on contact with fresh water. If you’re worried about Jacuzzi suds or that tipped-over can of beer, there’s no guarantee that a manufacturer has tested your device in these – often sticky – situations, and an IP rating won’t account for them.

Myth 4: I’ve got some rice in the kitchen. I can fix this myself!

It’s natural to panic and seek out the quickest household solution when a spill or dunk happens, and a cup of rice is still a commonly sought-out option.

However, the rice hack doesn’t work very well, and rice particles can enter the device to cause even further damage. Aside from bringing your device to a professional repairer, you’re better off immediately powering down your product, removing its battery and plug if you can, and letting all the components dry over a day or two.

Myth 5: Well, this device is broken, but I’ve got a warranty to replace it

While you’re pulling your product from its watery grave, you might find relief in the fact that it came with a warranty. Not so fast.

Most traditional consumer technology limited warranties don’t cover liquid damage. These days, you usually need to purchase an add-on warranty, often called Accidental Damage from Handling. Beware, though: Even those policies may limit how many wetness “incidents” or “events” you’re allowed per year.

Air flow is the best way to dry a device that’s taken a dunk. Don’t expose your device directly to rice, cat litter or other particles.

    Keeping it realistic

Water resistance features on devices like laptops, tablets, smartphones and smartwatches have recently improved, but the deck is still often stacked against consumers who must wade through the hype of advertising claims, mystifying classification systems and penalizing policies.

That’s why it’s critical for manufacturers to think carefully and ethically about how their products are designed, marketed and serviced. In terms of design, water resistance is no longer a niche feature meant solely for industrial workers or outdoor adventurers. While it’s unrealistic to expect a device that’s designed to resist every hazard, it’s also unreasonable to ask consumers to tiptoe around the products that provide them with access to critical resources and social support.

It’s important for manufacturers to avoid promising consumers the Moon. Samsung Australia, for instance, paid AU$14 million in penalties for exaggerating its phones’ protection for swimming. It’s certainly fun to watch commercials with Lil Wayne spray a smartphone with champagne or see him dunk it in a fish tank, but if manufacturers are advising against these practices, then they shouldn’t be romanticizing them.

Sure, it’s probably common sense that your phone shouldn’t take a bath in champagne. Yet life is constantly happening around – and with – our devices, from the shower and the kitchen to the gym and the beach. This means that fairer policies around repair, like those promoted by the right-to-repair movement, and warranties should stop treating consumers like they’re “bad” users.

After all, we’re each just one splash away from crying over spilled milk.

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: Prime Minister hails trade deal successes for Scotland

Source: United Kingdom – Executive Government & Departments

    Press release

Prime Minister hails trade deal successes for Scotland

From the Highlands to the Borders, Scottish people are set to benefit from the UK’s landmark trade deals with India, US and EU announced in recent weeks.

    • Prime Minister visits historic distillery in Glasgow to discuss trade deal benefits for the Scotch Whisky industry
    • Follows UK hat trick of trade deals with India, US and EU – improving people’s lives across the country
    • Deals will help drive growth in Scotland and put more money in the pockets of the hardworking Scottish people

From the Highlands to the Borders, Scottish people are set to benefit from the UK’s landmark trade deals with India, US and EU announced in recent weeks.

The Prime Minister discussed the huge growth opportunities and benefits for Scotland during a visit Clydeside Distillery in Glasgow today.

Visit comes after Prime Minister visited BAE Govan this morning to announce the Strategic Defence Review, which will see significant investment in Scotland . More than £2 billion a year is already spent by the Ministry of Defence with industry organisations of all sizes in Scotland, supporting over 25,000 skilled jobs in Scotland.

The world-renowned Scotch Whisky industry is set to boom globally – with the Scotch Whisky Association announcing they forecast £1 billion of extra exports in five years, plus 1,200 new jobs thanks to the tariff reductions as part of the UK-India Free Trade Agreement.

India is an important market for Scotland, with 457 Scottish businesses exporting a total of £610 million in goods there last year.

Under the India trade deal, tariffs have been cut on a range of iconic Scottish goods, from whisky tariffs halved from 150% to 75% and dropping to 40% after 10 years to salmon reduced from 33% to 0%. Iconic Scottish brands like Irn Bru and Scottish shortbread will also see reduced tariffs.

Scotland’s thriving life sciences and health tech hubs will be strengthened by IP commitments on areas such as trade secrets and copyright, helping companies export to India with confidence.

    Prime Minister Keir Starmer said:

Our trade deals with India, US and the EU will slash tariffs on key industries and open markets set to help drive growth in Scotland and put money in the pockets of the hardworking Scottish people, delivering on our Plan for Change.

Scotland is home to some of the most world-renowned products, which can now be enjoyed across the globe – all whilst saving Scottish businesses money.

That is why we have secured these deals, and why we will continue to go further and faster to improve the lives of everyone in the UK.

Secretary of State for Scotland Ian Murray said:

Our trio of trade deals shows we are championing Scottish products and businesses on the global stage. From our world-renowned whisky distilleries to our cutting-edge green energy sector, Scotland has so much to offer international markets. But more importantly as part of our Plan for Change this means more money in people’s pockets.

By securing better access to the European Union, United States and India, we’re creating real opportunities for Scottish businesses to grow, supporting jobs in communities from the Highlands to the Borders.

Mark Kent, Chief Executive Officer of the Scotch Whisky Association, said:

As the UK’s largest food and drink export to 180 markets worldwide, Scotch Whisky producers welcome the work being done to reduce trade barriers around the world. The landmark UK-India free trade agreement will be transformational for the Scotch Whisky industry over the longer term and has the potential to increase exports to India by £1bn over the next 5 years and creating 1,200 jobs across the UK.

It’s also constructive to see a potential reduction in the burden on exporters through the UK agreement with the EU. We continue to support the UK government’s efforts to address the issue of tariffs with the US and establish a pathway to return to the zero-for-zero tariff arrangement we have had with the US on spirits for more than 30 years.

The new agreement with the European Union, the UK’s largest trading market, will directly address challenges faced by Scottish exporters since 2019. The Scottish salmon industry has estimated that between 2019 and 2023, Scottish Salmon export values experienced a net loss of around £75 million. The deal with the EU makes it significantly easier to sell Scottish goods to European markets.

  • Wave of anger could sweep liberals to victory in South Korea election

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

When then-President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law decree plunged South Korea into chaos, it plummeted sales at Park Myung-Ja’s diner in Jechon and became a turning point for many voters in the town.

The 66-year-old chef and restaurant owner is one face of South Korea’s North Chungcheong Province, a swing region that has become even more pivotal at a time of deep political polarisation in Asia’s fourth-largest economy.

“We need to get furthest away from all that martial law drama to get things back to where they were,” Park said at her Korean restaurant two hours south of Seoul, adding liberal candidate “Lee Jae-myung looks alright for that”.

Voters are now looking for the winner of the June 3 snap election to calm the economic and political shocks that have roiled the country since Yoon’s December 3 martial law decree led to months of economic downturn and sparked nationwide protests.

Park’s Chungcheong Province is a key battleground for Kim Moon-soo, candidate for the conservative People Power Party campaigning on deregulations for companies, and liberal Democratic Party frontrunner Lee, who’s vowing to bring back stability after months of turmoil.

In swing regions such as North Chungcheong Province, where Jechon is located, the ruling conservative party risks losing a big chunk of its vote base with many voters blaming the martial law debacle for weaker private consumption and easing export momentum.

Park’s business crashed after Yoon’s declaration with some of her biggest customers who are local council officials cancelling dinner reservations in groups of five to 10.

“The first call I got on Dec. 4 was from a regular customer who does his year-end dinner here every year. I asked him why he is cancelling it, and he said — ‘don’t you watch news?’”

Lee, who defied Yoon’s martial law decree, had a 10-percentage point lead over Kim in one of the final opinion polls issued on Tuesday with 45% of voters trusting him to revive the economy compared to 32% for Kim.

Conservatives have criticised Lee for a series of criminal cases he faces over accusations of election law violations, corruption, and other issues, but they have struggled to unify behind a single candidate and to distance themselves from Yoon.

On Friday, right-winger Kim said voting for Lee would end up “collapsing our economy”, hoping to sway voters in small cities such as Jecheon, an inland town of about 130,000 surrounded by mountainous tourist spots, who are looking for a turning point to revive South Korea’s fortunes.

But the martial law call continues to weigh heavily on conservative chances.

“We definitely had fewer customers, especially from office dinners, after the martial law declaration. It did bite us hard,” said Choi, a Chinese restaurant owner in Pangyo, a town south of Seoul.

“Lee is someone who will uplift more of us who are not doing so well.”

    HEAVY ON SPECTACLE

Consumer sentiment, which dropped by the most since the outbreak of COVID-19 in December, recovered to pre-martial-law levels of 101.8 in May, on expectations of a fresh stimulus package under a new leader.

The shock move rattled markets and put the won among the region’s worst-performing currencies of the last year, hurt business sentiment even before exporters absorbed the full force of U.S. President Donald Trump’s punitive tariff policies.
Now, the strains are setting in, as economic tailwinds from the semiconductor boom and reforms in the capital markets in the past few years are fading.

Whoever wins the June 3 election will face an economy that contracted in the first quarter, manage negotiations with Washington to avoid high tariffs, and assuage voters such as Park who are seeing their living standards go backwards from elevated grocery bills and weak spending.

South Korea’s election campaign has been light on policy and heavy on spectacle after twists and turns involving the main candidates.

“I wish they had taken housing supply and boosting the domestic market more seriously in their pledges,” said 59-year-old Jung Soo-hyeon. “But perhaps because it’s a snap election, that kind of in-depth consideration seems to be missing — which is a bit disappointing.”

Analysts say voters watched economic pledges closely as consumption has been badly hit.

A win for Lee could spur “faster economic growth in the short term,” Kim Jin-wook of Citi Research said.

The Democratic Party “would likely be relatively more keen on providing policy and support for the mid-to-low-income bracket,” he added.

While both top candidates have pledged to draft a second supplementary budget for the year as soon as the election is over, Lee has also promised vouchers to help local businesses and subsidies for childcare, youth, and the elderly.

While Lee has backed away from advocating for universal basic income, some voters including Park, who backed Yoon last time, said they see Lee as most likely to look out for their interests.

“Lee’s party seems to be willing to give out more to those who are struggling,” Park said, emphasizing that “change” is important.

  • India manufacturing PMI stands at 57.6 in May: HSBC

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

India’s manufacturing sector maintained strong momentum in May, with the HSBC India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) posting a reading of 57.6, according to data released Monday. While slightly below April’s 58.2, the index remained comfortably above the neutral 50 mark, indicating sustained growth.

The PMI data, compiled by S&P Global, signalled another robust month for the sector.

“India’s May manufacturing PMI signalled another month of robust growth in the sector,” said Pranjul Bhandari, Chief India Economist at HSBC. “The acceleration in employment growth to a new peak is certainly a positive development. Input cost inflation is picking up, but manufacturers seem to be mitigating pressure on margins by raising output prices.”

The expansion was driven by strong domestic and overseas demand, along with effective marketing efforts that pushed export orders to one of their highest levels in the past three years. Firms reported increasing interest from key global markets, including Asia, Europe, West Asia, and the United States.

A key highlight of May’s performance was record-high job creation since the PMI survey’s inception. Manufacturers focused on strengthening their permanent workforce, enabling smoother operations and better workload management.

This trend offers a boost to India’s young workforce and underlines continued investment in the sector’s long-term prospects.

Input costs rose moderately, with increases in items such as aluminium, cement, iron, leather, rubber, and sand, along with higher freight and labour charges. In response, manufacturers raised selling prices at a strong pace to safeguard profit margins.

Despite inflationary pressures, business confidence remained high, supported by rising customer enquiries, successful advertising campaigns, and a favourable domestic environment. Manufacturers expressed optimism about growth prospects in the coming year.

Adding to the positive outlook, India’s industrial production grew by 2.7 per cent in April 2025, according to the Ministry of Statistics. The manufacturing sector alone expanded by 3.4 per cent, with 16 out of 23 industry groups reporting positive output.

  • Markets bounce back after early slump, end slightly lower

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Indian stock markets recovered sharply from early losses on Monday, displaying resilience despite global headwinds. Both benchmark indices ended the session marginally lower.

The Sensex closed at 81,374, down by 77 points or 0.09 per cent, after rebounding 719 points from the day’s low of 80,654. Similarly, the Nifty settled at 24,717, slipping 34 points or 0.14 per cent, recovering from an intraday low of 24,526.

Investor sentiment was initially dampened by the announcement from US President Donald Trump regarding a steep hike in tariffs on steel imports, increasing from 25 per cent to 50 per cent, effective June 4.

Adding to the cautious mood were rising geopolitical tensions between Russia and Ukraine, volatile foreign investment flows, and uncertainty ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy decision later this week.

Despite a weak opening, select heavyweight buying limited the downside. Notable gainers included Adani Ports, Mahindra & Mahindra, Zomato (Eternal), PowerGrid, Hindustan Unilever, Bajaj Finserv, ITC, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints, and Nestle India, which rose between 0.4 per cent and 2 per cent.

In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices outperformed, rising 0.62 per cent and 1.1 per cent, respectively.

Sector-wise, Nifty IT and Nifty Metal indices were the biggest laggards, falling 0.7 per cent on concerns over US tariff hikes. In contrast, Nifty Realty and Nifty PSU Bank indices led the gains, each advancing over 2 per cent.

“The domestic market continued its consolidation phase for the third consecutive week, influenced by renewed concerns over a potential tariff war and escalating geopolitical tensions,” said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.

“While global uncertainties have made investors more risk-averse, the Indian market has shown resilience, supported by strong institutional inflows and sectoral strength in FMCG, real estate, and financials,” he added.

Nair noted that investors are currently adopting a cautious short-term strategy, favouring domestically-driven and interest-sensitive sectors.

  • Russia and Ukraine to hold more peace talks after Kyiv hits nuclear-capable bombers

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Russian and Ukrainian officials are due to sit down on Monday in Istanbul for their second round of direct peace talks since 2022 with no sign they are any closer to an agreement, one day after Kyiv struck some of Moscow’s nuclear-capable bombers.

The two sides are expected to discuss their respective ideas for what a full ceasefire and a longer term path to peace should look like, amid stark disagreements and pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has threatened to walk away from talks.

Vladimir Medinsky, the head of Moscow’s delegation, said that Russia had received Ukraine’s draft memorandum for a peace accord ahead of the talks. There was no word on whether Kyiv had received Russia’s draft. Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov will head the Ukrainian delegation.

Their last round of talks in Istanbul on May 16 yielded the biggest prisoner swap of the war with each side freeing 1,000 prisoners, but no sign of peace – or even a ceasefire as both sides merely stated their opening negotiating positions.

Kyiv regards Russia’s approach to date as an attempt to force it to capitulate – something it says it will never do – and Moscow, which advanced on the battlefield in May at its fastest rate in six months, says Ukraine should submit to peace on Russian terms or face losing more territory.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, speaking in Lithuania on Monday, said ceasefire and humanitarian issues, such as returning more prisoners, from Russia would be a priority for Kyiv at the Istanbul talks.

Kyiv has said Zelenskiy and Russian President Vladimir Putin should hold direct talks when the time is right.

Amid low expectations of a breakthrough, a Ukrainian source told Reuters ahead of Monday’s talks that Kyiv was ready to take real steps towards peace if Moscow showed flexibility and what they described as a readiness to “move forward, not just repeat the same previous ultimatums”.

Ukrainian officials met with officials from Germany, Italy and Britain ahead of the talks to coordinate their positions.

    GRIM MOOD

The mood in Russia before the talks was grim with influential war bloggers calling on Moscow to deliver a fearsome retaliatory blow against Kyiv after Ukraine on Sunday launched one of its most ambitious attacks of the war, targeting Russian nuclear-capable long-range bombers in Siberia and elsewhere.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia had launched 472 drones at Ukraine, the highest nightly total of the war.

Trump envoy Keith Kellogg has indicated that the U.S. will be involved in the talks and that representatives from Britain, France and Germany will be present too, though it was not clear at what level the United States would be represented.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was due to chair the talks, which are expected to get underway at 1000 GMT.

The idea of direct talks was first proposed by Putin after Ukraine and European powers demanded that he agree to a ceasefire which the Kremlin dismissed.

Last June Putin set out his opening terms for an immediate end to the war: Ukraine must drop its NATO ambitions and withdraw all of its troops from the entirety of the territory of four Ukrainian regions claimed and mostly controlled by Russia.

According to a proposed roadmap that will be presented by Ukrainian negotiators in Istanbul, a copy of which was seen by Reuters, Kyiv wants no restrictions on its military strength after any peace deal, no international recognition of Russian sovereignty over parts of Ukraine taken by Moscow’s forces, and wants reparations.

The document stated that the current location of the front line will be the starting point for negotiations about territory.
Russia currently controls just under one fifth of Ukraine, or about 113,100 square km, about the same size as the U.S. state of Ohio.

Putin ordered tens of thousands of troops to invade Ukraine in February 2022 after eight years of fighting in eastern Ukraine between Russian-backed separatists and Ukrainian troops. The United States says over 1.2 million people have been killed and injured in the war since 2022.

Trump has called Putin “crazy” and berated Zelenskiy in public in the Oval Office, but the U.S. president has also said that he thinks peace is achievable and that if Putin delays then he could impose tough sanctions on Russia.

  • Mizoram schools shut for third day due to rain

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

All the government and private schools in Mizoram remained closed on Monday due to heavy rains that triggered landslides, rockfalls, and waterlogging in different parts of the mountainous state, officials said.

A senior official of the School Education Department said that Deputy Commissioners of all 11 districts issued separate notifications closing the schools on Monday as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the students.

After the beginning of the current spell of heavy rain, earlier, schools were closed across the state for two days on May 29 and May 30.

However, there was no rain in the state capital, Aizawl, till Monday afternoon.

Aizawl District Deputy Commissioner Lalhriatpuia, in a notification, said that due to torrential rainfall in the past few days, which resulted in mudflows, landslides, rockfalls and other calamities at various locations within the district, the district authority deems it appropriate to suspend attendance of school-going students for their safety and well-being. This decision has been arrived at after perusing the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) district-wise warning for June 2 (Monday) and appropriate consultation with relevant stakeholders of the Aizawl District Disaster Management Authority (ADDMA).

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Sunday held a review meeting with the ministers concerned and senior officials.

According to a preliminary report of the Disaster Management and Rehabilitation (DMR) Department, 60 houses have collapsed and 69 families have been evacuated from their houses due to the risk of collapse.

A total of 211 landslides have been reported in different parts of the state till Sunday evening, highways blocked at 83 locations, and four retaining walls have collapsed, the report said. Additionally, rising water levels in riverside habitation areas were reported.

All the Deputy Commissioners also submitted detailed status reports from their respective districts.

During Sunday’s meeting, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to all those working tirelessly across the state, including first responders, support teams, and personnel involved in evacuation and relief operations. He lauded the resilience of the Mizo people and urged continued support for affected individuals and families.

A key priority highlighted in the meeting was ensuring that access to district headquarters and the airport remains uninterrupted by keeping essential roads operational.

Lalduhoma also directed that adequate funds be allocated to all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and that relief funds for victims be released at the earliest. It was resolved that disaster-affected areas must be continuously monitored under the supervision of the Department of Disaster Management and Rehabilitation (DM&R). Comprehensive and timely reports are to be submitted to the central government to ensure proper coordination and response.

The meeting was attended by Home Minister K. Sapdanga, PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, DM&R Minister Prof. Lalnilawma, Public Health Engineering Minister F. Rodingliana, and several senior government officials.

An all-party Indian Parliamentary delegation led by NCP MP Supriya Sule concluded its official visit to Ethiopia on Sunday, as part of India’s diplomatic outreach to reinforce its zero-tolerance policy on cross-border terrorism.

During the visit, the delegation engaged with Ethiopian dignitaries, media, academia, civil society representatives, think tanks, and the Indian diaspora, briefing them on the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam and the subsequent military response under Operation Sindoor.

The delegation described Operation Sindoor as a calibrated, targeted, and proportionate response, demonstrating India’s resolve to counter terrorism decisively without escalating regional tensions.

They noted that India has begun dismantling the terrorist infrastructure that has operated across its borders for decades.

The Ethiopian side, in turn, reaffirmed its own zero-tolerance stance on terrorism and expressed strong solidarity with India in the wake of the Pahalgam attack. The delegation thanked the Ethiopian leadership for its unequivocal support.

  • Centre notifies guidelines for electric passenger vehicle manufacturing scheme

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

The Centre on Monday issued detailed guidelines for a new scheme aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing of electric passenger vehicles, marking a key step in its broader push for green mobility and sustainable industrial development. The “Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India” (SPMEPCI), notified by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), is intended to attract global investments in India’s electric vehicle (EV) sector while strengthening the country’s position as a global automotive manufacturing hub.

Announced in March 2024, the scheme aligns with India’s climate goals, including its commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070. The initiative also supports the government’s vision of fostering economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability through strategic policy interventions in the EV ecosystem.

Speaking at a press conference, Union Minister for Heavy Industries, H.D. Kumaraswamy, described the scheme as a forward-looking and transformative step. He noted that the scheme is designed not only to bring cutting-edge EV technologies into the Indian market but also to build indigenous manufacturing capabilities through a clear framework of domestic value addition (DVA) targets.

Under the scheme, approved companies will be allowed to import a limited number of completely built electric four-wheelers (e-4W) at a reduced customs duty rate of 15 per cent for a period of five years. These imports must meet a minimum cost, insurance and freight (CIF) value of USD 35,000 per unit. The concession is capped at 8,000 units per year, with the flexibility to carry forward unused quotas. However, the total duty foregone will be limited to either Rs 6,484 crore or the actual investment made by the applicant, whichever is lower.

To qualify for these benefits, applicants must commit to a minimum investment of Rs 4,150 crore within three years of receiving approval. They must also establish manufacturing facilities and commence production within this period. The guidelines stipulate that a minimum of 25 per cent domestic value addition should be achieved within three years, rising to 50 per cent within five years. The DVA assessment will follow the existing Standard Operating Procedure of the PLI Scheme for Automobile and Auto Components, with certifications to be carried out by MHI-approved testing agencies.

While there is no cap on maximum investment, only specific categories of expenditure—such as new plant and machinery, engineering research and development, and essential buildings—will be counted towards the investment threshold. Notably, expenditure on land is excluded, while spending on charging infrastructure will be considered up to a limit of five per cent of the total committed investment.

Applicants will be required to furnish a bank guarantee equivalent to the higher of the duty foregone or Rs 4,150 crore, valid for the entire duration of the scheme. The application window, expected to open soon, will remain active for a minimum of 120 days, with the government retaining the option to reopen it until March 2026. A non-refundable application fee of Rs 5 lakh will be applicable.

Eligibility is restricted to companies or global groups with an automotive manufacturing revenue of at least Rs 10,000 crore and fixed asset investments of not less than Rs 3,000 crore, based on their latest audited financial statements.

The Ministry of Heavy Industries said the scheme would catalyse the development of a competitive and self-reliant EV manufacturing ecosystem in India, contributing to the larger goals of the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives. The effort is also expected to generate high-quality employment, accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies, and position India as a preferred destination for global automotive innovation.

  • India to create 7.29 million green jobs by FY28, 35 million by 2047: Report

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

India’s green economy is growing rapidly and is expected to reach a value of $1 trillion by 2030, and a staggering $15 trillion by 2070, a new report said on Monday.

With this massive growth, India is also set to create a huge number of green jobs – around 7.29 million by the financial year 2027-28 and 35 million by the year 2047, according to a NLB Services report.

NLB Services CEO Sachin Alug said: “In the past 4–5 years, we’ve seen green jobs evolve from niche roles to mainstream opportunities across renewable energy, EVs, and sustainable infrastructure. What’s changed pragmatically is the skillsets.”

“Today’s green workforce needs both sustainability know-how and digital fluency, and the increased integration of AI, IoT, blockchain, GIS, and data-driven tools are laying the foundation for progressive, new-age green careers,” Alug mentioned.

As the green sector expands, industries are not just investing in green technology and renewable energy, but also focusing on building a skilled workforce to meet the rising demand.

This shift is driving companies to change their hiring strategies. Rather than relying only on traditional degrees, employers are now giving more importance to practical green skills and hands-on experience.

Many companies are also working closely with colleges and universities to equip young people with sustainability-related skills, while also investing in inclusive hiring and re-skilling programmes, the report stated.

The new employment outlook is stronger than earlier predictions. In 2024, the green sector was expected to grow at a pace of 15–20 per cent annually in terms of job demand.

However, new estimates show an even faster increase, especially in fields like renewable energy, electric vehicles, green construction, waste management, and sustainable textiles.

Most green jobs are still based in big cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi. But smaller cities such as Jaipur, Indore, Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, and Ahmedabad are also becoming key green job hubs.

Tier II and Tier III cities are expected to create 35-40 per cent of the projected 7.29 million jobs by FY28, helped by the growth in sustainable agriculture, logistics, and warehousing, as per the report.

Green job roles are also becoming more diverse. Demand for professionals in areas such as ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) analytics, climate data analysis, and green technology is growing fast, with a projected 20–30 per cent yearly rise.

  • RBI may opt for 50 bps jumbo rate cut to counter uncertainty: SBI report

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may implement a 50-basis point rate cut in its June Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting to revive the credit cycle and mitigate economic uncertainty, according to a report by the State Bank of India (SBI) released on Monday.

The cumulative rate cut during the ongoing cycle could total 100 basis points, said Dr. Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Group Chief Economic Adviser at SBI.

“Domestic liquidity and financial stability concerns have eased. Inflation is expected to remain within the tolerance band. Preserving domestic growth momentum should be the primary policy objective, justifying a jumbo rate cut,” he noted.

With liquidity in sustained surplus, banks are repricing liabilities more rapidly amid the rate-easing cycle. Savings account interest rates have already been reduced to a floor rate of 2.70 per cent.

Fixed deposit (FD) rates have also been cut by 30 to 70 basis points since February 2025. SBI anticipates a strong transmission to deposit rates in the coming quarters.

India’s economy expanded by 7.4 per cent in Q4 FY25, down from 8.4 per cent in the same quarter last year. This growth was largely driven by a sharp rise in capital formation, which registered a 9.4 per cent year-on-year increase.

An above-normal monsoon forecast by the IMD, robust crop arrivals, and declining crude oil prices have led SBI to revise its CPI inflation estimate downward to 3.5 per cent for FY26.

Based on the latest RBI Annual Report, SBI expects higher household savings, adequate to support economic growth without creating demand-driven inflationary pressures in FY26.

The report also highlighted the strong performance of Indian banks, particularly public sector banks (PSBs), which recorded a 26 per cent year-on-year rise in profits. In comparison, private banks saw a 5.8 per cent increase.

System liquidity turned positive, standing at ₹1.2 lakh crore as of March 31. Factoring in the recent ₹2.68 lakh crore RBI dividend to the government, SBI projects core liquidity to reach ₹5.3 lakh crore by the end of June. Durable liquidity is likely to remain in surplus throughout FY26.

Against this backdrop, the report suggests that the RBI will need to strike a balance between managing contained inflation and preventing a slowdown in domestic growth.

“We expect that the RBI will proceed with a 50 bps rate cut to support growth,” the report concluded.

    Source: Government of India (2)

Speaking at the event, Shah said the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to establishing a secure, transparent, and evidence-based criminal justice system. “This laboratory will serve as a crucial pillar in realizing that vision and aid in the implementation of the new criminal laws,” he said.
The Union Minister emphasized the role of forensic science in securing convictions and ensuring justice, stating that a national network of FSLs is being established through a cluster approach, where 3–4 states will share facilities and resources. Beginning January 2026, the government plans to launch a campaign to integrate forensic practices down to the police station level, aiming to move from a system based on argument to one rooted in evidence.
Shah also formally launched Narcotics Version 2.0 and Explosives Version 2.0, digital tools designed to simplify forensic processes. He noted that crimes are evolving in the digital age and that law enforcement must stay ahead through the adoption of science and technology.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to reforms through the newly introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which replace colonial-era laws. Shah said these laws empower investigators with clear legal backing for using technology and make forensic visits mandatory in cases involving sentences of more than seven years.
The Home Minister also underlined progress in justice delivery, stating that 60% of chargesheets are now filed within 60 days and that provisions such as trial in absentia will help prosecute absconders using international mechanisms.
To support this infrastructure, the government has approved 16 campuses of the National Forensic Science University (NFSU), with 7 already operational. Plans are in place to train 36,000 forensic professionals annually through these institutions, exceeding the country’s current estimated need of 30,000 trained experts per year.
Additionally, 9 more NFSU campuses and 7 new CFSLs are being set up in states including Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Bihar, at a combined investment of over ₹2,100 crore. A National Forensic Data Centre, with an allocation of ₹200 crore, will also be established.
Amit Shah said the modernization of India’s forensic infrastructure will help ensure that even the most marginalized citizen can approach the justice system with confidence. “It is our responsibility to create a system where justice is swift, science-based, and accessible to all,” he concluded.

n all-party Indian parliamentary delegation, led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, met with representatives of Malaysia’s People’s Justice Party (PKR) in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, as part of India’s global outreach campaign following the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent military response under Operation Sindoor.

The delegation, which arrived in Kuala Lumpur on May 31, was briefed by India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, B.N. Reddy. He underscored the strategic importance of India-Malaysia relations and “outlined the Malaysia-specific messaging to strongly convey India’s commitment to combat terrorism under Operation Sindoor.”

According to a statement from the Indian High Commission, the delegation held “wide-ranging” interactions with members of the Indian diaspora and conveyed India’s “resolute stance against cross-border terrorism.”

“Diaspora members, including voices from the Malaysian Indian Muslim community, unequivocally condemned terrorism. An appeal was made to amplify the message of unity and zero tolerance through various platforms and communities,” the statement said.

The delegation also engaged with major Malaysian media outlets and social media influencers, stressing India’s new doctrine that “terror and talks cannot go together” and asserting that any act of terror will now be treated as an act of war.

“The delegation paid heartfelt homage to the Malaysian national who lost her life in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, emphasizing that terrorism is a global menace that endangers all of humanity,” the statement said.

Speaking to ANI, delegation leader Sanjay Kumar Jha outlined the significance of the multi-nation tour.

“Our first visit was to Japan and it was an important country because so many trades of ours happen with Japan…Japan endorsed the stance of the country…Then we went to South Korea…they also appreciated and supported us…in Singapore also…we had positive talks…Jakarta has the highest Muslim population in the world…their stand against terrorism was in support of India…the whole world has criticised the Pahalgam attack,” he said

He added: “We will be in Malaysia till the day after tomorrow…the President of Malaysia has strongly condemned (Pahalgam attack)…we have made two requests, the first one is that we are not part of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) even though India has a large Muslim population…Pakistan keeps passing resolutions against us…so we have sought support from Malaysia and Indonesia…Pakistan needs to be brought back to the FATF list, so we have kept this demand before all the countries to consider this and extend support to this. Malaysia has supported us in getting a permanent membership in the UN Security Council…,”

Apart from Jha, the delegation includes MPs Aparajita Sarangi (BJP), Abhishek Banerjee (TMC), Brij Lal (BJP), John Brittas (CPI-M), Pradan Baruah (BJP), and Hemang Joshi (BJP), along with former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid, and former Indian Ambassador to France Mohan Kumar.

  • India Stands Out as Global Fintech Bright Spot as Credit Demand Surges

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (2)

ndia has emerged as one of the most dynamic fintech markets globally, driven by a potent combination of digital public infrastructure (UPI, Aadhaar, Account Aggregator), a mobile-first population, and regulatory clarity, a report showed on Monday.

Fintech-led digital lending grew at a 35 per cent CAGR in 2024, driven by rising credit demand, according to the report by QED Investors and Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

Tools like UPI have enabled a wave of fintech innovation — from digital lending to payments to wealth — particularly benefiting underserved and unbanked populations. These enablers have accelerated innovation and financial inclusion at scale, making India a key focus for both global investors and domestic fintech players, said the report.

India features among the top geographies poised for future fintech investment. Investors are encouraged to diversify capital into high-growth regions like India, with an emphasis on AI integration and disciplined scaling, it added.

India’s affluent middle class, currently 31 per cent of the population, is projected to grow to 40 per cent (nearly 600 million) by 2031. This demographic shift is fuelling a surge in consumer demand for credit across the retail, consumption, and SME sectors.

“India stands at a unique inflection point in the global fintech landscape. With a strong foundation in digital infrastructure like UPI, Aadhaar, Account Aggregator, and a tech-savvy, mobile-first population, the country has already shown how innovation can drive financial inclusion at scale,” said Sandeep Patil, Partner and Head of Asia at QED Investors.

To win the next chapter, fintechs must pair innovation with disciplined execution.

“That means building trust, demonstrating profitability, and navigating an evolving regulatory landscape with maturity. The Indian market is large, dynamic, and underpenetrated — well positioned to be one of the defining arenas for global fintech over the next decade,” Patil added.

Globally, in 2024, fintech revenues grew by 21 per cent — up from 13 per cent in 2023 — marking a threefold acceleration over the financial services industry at large.

“A class of scaled fintechs is coming of age. Investors are demanding greater maturity, and regulators want more accountability,” said Deepak Goyal, a Managing Director and Senior Partner at BCG.

“Meanwhile, emerging disruptors are harnessing next-generation technologies like agentic AI and pioneering new business models, pushing established players to continuously innovate,” he added.

Paraguay holds significance as a trading partner for India within Latin America, with several Indian companies in the automobile and pharmaceutical sectors operating in the country. Conversely, Paraguayan firms, primarily through joint ventures, have established a presence in India, adding strength to bilateral economic engagement.

The two nations also share similar perspectives on various global issues, including the need for reforms in the United Nations, action on climate change, promotion of renewable energy, and the fight against terrorism.

As part of his Mumbai visit, President Peña is expected to meet with state leaders as well as representatives from India’s business community, startups, innovators, and the technology sector.

nion Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday emphasised the government’s firm commitment towards building a ‘Viksit Bharat’, stating that the path to national development passes through agricultural prosperity and farmers’ welfare.

Union Minister Chouhan is in Motihari, Bihar. He is holding discussions focused on boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring better livelihoods for farmers in the state.

Highlighting the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chouhan said, “The Prime Minister is committed to building a Viksit Bharat. For this, developed agriculture and prosperous farmers are essential. This is the guiding mantra of the Agriculture Department. Across the country, 16,000 agricultural scientists are engaging directly with farmers. Scientists, along with state and central agriculture departments and agricultural universities, are working together to find ways to increase production, reduce input costs, ensure fair prices for farmers, and provide compensation in case of losses.”

“I have come to Bihar to support and serve the farmers here and help increase agricultural productivity,” he added.

During his visit, Chouhan stressed that Bihar holds tremendous potential for agricultural development, and efforts are being made to ensure that farmers in the region benefit from scientific innovations, government schemes, and institutional collaboration.

He added that the government is actively promoting agricultural diversification, natural farming, and focused initiatives like the Pulses Mission and Oilseeds Mission — all aimed at making Indian agriculture more resilient, sustainable, and profitable.

Referring to the ongoing efforts under the government’s “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan,” Chouhan said, “Ek Rashtra, Ek Krishi, Ek Team (One Nation, One Agriculture, One Team)” is the motto driving these initiatives. He underlined the importance of integrating the efforts of central and state governments, agricultural scientists, and universities to ensure long-term solutions for India’s agricultural challenges.

n all-party Indian parliamentary delegation, led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, met with the UK’s Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel and her team on Sunday to convey India’s unwavering resolve in combating cross-border terrorism.

During the meeting, the delegation emphasized India’s evolving counter-terrorism doctrine, highlighting Operation Sindoor as a clear representation of the country’s “new normal” in its response to terror threats.

“The All-Party Parliamentary Delegation met with Shadow Foreign Secretary @pritipatel and her team to share India’s firm resolve in combating cross-border terrorism. They also highlighted how #OperationSindoor exemplifies the new normal set by India in this ongoing effort,” the Indian High Commission in the UK said in a post on X.

Earlier, the delegation engaged with members of the Indian diaspora at India House in London. In their address, the members reiterated India’s united stance against terrorism and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to taking decisive action against any acts of terror.

“The All Party Delegation of MPs interacted with representatives of the large and diverse Indian Diaspora at India House in London today. They reaffirmed India’s united stance and unwavering commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms, and underlined the readiness of India to continue to decisively punish any and all acts of terror,” the High Commission noted.

During the interaction, Ravi Shankar Prasad launched a scathing critique of Pakistan, calling it a failed democracy run by its military establishment.

“Pakistan armed forces have made a country for themselves — unelected, unaccountable, and without popular mandate,” Prasad said. “Ayub Khan ruled for a decade, Yahya Khan for over seven years, Zia-ul-Haq for eleven, and General Musharraf for nine. Now there is General Munir, who was defeated in the field but promoted to field marshal. That is the whole scenario.”

Prasad also condemned Pakistan for sheltering Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. Praising Operation Sindoor, he pointed out that the terrorists responsible for hijacking Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in 1999 and securing the release of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar, were neutralized by Indian forces under the operation. He added that members of Azhar’s family were also killed during the offensive.

Apart from Prasad, the delegation includes BJP MPs Daggubati Purandeswari and Samik Bhattacharya, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, Congress MPs Ghulam Ali Khatana and Amar Singh, former Union Minister MJ Akbar, and former Ambassador to Russia and the US, Pankaj Saran.
