  • MIL-OSI USA: Energy Secretary Chris Wright Delivers Keynote Remarks on Completion of First B61-13 Production Unit at Pantex Plant

    Source: US Department of Energy

AMARILLO— U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright delivered keynote remarks today at the Department of Energy’s Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas, marking the completion of the first production unit of the B61-13 nuclear gravity bomb.

The B61-13 is the latest modification to the B61 family of nuclear weapons and was completed nearly a year ahead of schedule and less than two years after the program was first announced, making it one of the most rapidly developed and fielded weapons since the Cold War. Under President Trump’s leadership, the Department is modernizing America’s nuclear stockpile to deliver peace through strength. The B61-13 builds on proven B61-12 production capabilities and incorporates modern safety, security, and accuracy features, with a yield tailored for hardened and large-area military targets. The B61-13 is one of seven warhead modernization programs NNSA is executing to ensure the long-term performance and credibility of the U.S. deterrent.

    Secretary Wright’s full remarks:

It’s an honor to be here on this special day. Every time I hear our national anthem performed, I feel strong emotions. I feel first a sense of gratitude—gratitude for those that came before us and created this nation against all odds, that put their lives on the line and stuck to their principles, no matter what the pressure was. I also feel a sense of pride to be born in this country and to have the great luck to live as an American. The ideas of freedom, liberty, and justice for all—but freedom isn’t free. Freedom isn’t free.

That national anthem was written over 200 years ago, the last time there were foreign troops on our soil. Most ideas or nations get taken over and they get snuffed out; they lose their way. We’re unique in history, and our nation has not. And that’s only because of the men and women in our country that have stood strong, both on the principles and with the might to defend our borders and to defend our ideals.

And Pantex and the people of Amarillo have been central to that mission. And I’ll come back to that in a second.

I bring regards from President Trump, who is incredibly committed to this mission of modernizing our nuclear stockpile as quickly and as efficiently—but as robustly and strongly—as we can.

He got elected on really a simple principle: that prosperity at home and peace abroad are what America and the world needed. And those go together. A prosperous, strong America is the best way to guarantee peace abroad. A strong, principled America is central to world peace and to the lives of all of us—all our friends, all our families, and all our fellow Americans across the country.

I have the incredible honor to be in this role. I’ve been an entrepreneur my whole life. The last time I had a boss, I was 19 years old. And then I met a new guy a little more than a year ago at dinner and a very candid dialogue about energy and about our country. And right away, he said, “You should be Secretary of Energy.”

And then he came to me after the dinner and said, “Would you do it?” I said, if I’m asked to serve my country, there’s only one answer. I didn’t have to think about that one. I did look at my wife that night and she said, “Absolutely, we’re moving to DC. You know, I’m willing.”

And my wife has been this lifelong partner for me, up for every adventure. So, I’ve been a very, very lucky guy.

As an entrepreneur, I started a number of businesses, mostly around energy—technology and energy. That’s why I am an energy tech nerd. But I started—I named the last company Liberty Energy, two of my favorite words.

We have 30-year life expectancy throughout all of human history. 20,000 years ago, before the invention of agriculture, and 200 years ago— there was 30 years of global life expectancy at birth. Today, it’s 73 years. Just a few generations back. Just an incredible transformation.

What happened? There’s all sorts of history before 200 years ago. What happened? And to me, two fundamental things changed:

The growth of bottom-up social organization—human liberty. Societies were top-down. Women were property of their husbands, of their fathers. Slavery was endemic across every major society throughout all of history. We didn’t start perfect in those ideals, but America started with a North Star—to bring liberty, not just to our country, to the world. That mission has been not complete, but remarkably, remarkably successful in making the lives we all have.

And the partner in making that happen was energy. It was this explosion in available energy—from wood. Mostly wood, a little bit of wind, a little bit of water flowing. That’s what powered the world throughout all of human history. And then the arrival of coal and oil and natural gas. And then these derivative energy sources that are only possible because of coal, oil, and natural gas, like nuclear, large-scale hydro, wind, solar—everything else is really derivative of hydrocarbons.

But those two things changed our world: liberty and energy.

And I think President Trump realized that both of those were under some threat. We saw a growing movement in our country that maybe free speech and free interchange of ideas—maybe those were out of fashion. They didn’t fit with the world today.

I think we saw—as we heard from the General earlier—we saw growing threats to our liberty around the world. To us, a rapidly rising China. It’s a huge, huge global threat we haven’t seen in our lifetimes. We’ve seen Russia’s activities and where Russia stands today. And, as we heard, the world has gotten more dangerous.

We need very much today a strong America. We need a prosperous America to keep peace for our shores and peace abroad, to the extent we can achieve it.

This community—the Pantex community and the broader Amarillo community—have been central to that for over 80 years. In World War II, much to our surprise with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Within a few months, this facility was built and started quickly to build armaments to win the war. A war we fought in the Pacific. We fought in the Atlantic—by far the largest conflict in human history.

You’re a ways away from any danger here from foreign enemies, but they’re there. This community rose up and cranked out armaments to allow our troops around the globe to win that war.

In that war, we also had a very unique effort for science. That wartime mobilization meant creativity, meant patriotism, and a rushed effort—literally in two and a half years in Los Alamos—we developed nuclear weapons under the gun of both war and the knowledge that Nazi Germany also had a nuclear weapons program. Getting second wasn’t an option.

But America rose to that challenge. And we developed nuclear weapons, which you learn in school are horrific and terrifying—and they are terrifying. I would say they’re not horrific. They and American strength and resolve have probably been the biggest bringers of peace in the world for 80 years, without any live conflict between major powers.

There are plenty of wars around the world, and President Trump’s agenda is to bring as many of those conflicts as possible to an end. But your chance of dying from violent death in our generation—and our children’s generation—is the lowest it’s ever been.

We have the news and we hear about all the conflicts around the world, but because of a strong America, because of an unbowed resolve, we have a much safer—not completely safe—but a much safer and more peaceful world that’s allowed ourselves, our children, our grandchildren to pursue wonderful, dreamy lives.

But to maintain that, our biggest risk is complacency. That risk is there. And that risk has been mostly at bay because of the strength of our military and the commitment of American leadership, American citizens, and American resolve.

Pantex is absolutely central to that.

And there was a brief break from ’45 to ’51, where we won the war, but of course, the Cold War rose quickly. And we understood this feeling of security was very brief.

The only way we could ensure security was to be the strongest, the most powerful, the most technologically advanced, and the most committed to our values of any nation on Earth.

Pantex was reinvented as the final assembler, where all roads lead to our nuclear stockpile. This nuclear stockpile has had unbelievably positive effects—not just on the lives of Americans—but on the lives today of 8 billion people in the world that benefit from American strength and American security.

But the backbone of that strength and security—the ultimate guarantor of the sovereignty of our nation—is our nuclear stockpile.

You built that stockpile in the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. Then we went into a more peaceful period. We disassembled some of those weapons—also done by you. We maintained that stockpile and those weapons throughout all that time period.

And now, with age on those weapons and rising security risks around the world, we’re called to action to modernize multiple weapons systems in our stockpile. Who’s going to lead that effort? The people looking at me in the room right now, and your more than 4,000 other colleagues that are working hard right now to make our country safe and secure.

I was honored—and a little bit emotional as well—to stamp that B61-13 today. That’s the cutting edge of this weapons stockpile. And amazingly—have you heard of anything today that’s done a year early? Anybody built a house or had a major project or done anything else—showed up to your contractors and they said, “good news is, we’re a year ahead of schedule?”

I’m not sure I’ve ever heard that in my life. And I know this year in the broader program here, we’re 107% ahead of plan. That’s out of fashion the last few years—everything’s late, over budget, and delayed. But not here. Not in this community. Not in this complex.

So, I end with a thanks— a thanks from me personally. I’m so proud to be on your team now. I’m here for the count. They’ll take me out in a few years, but I’m pretty motivated to be here and to be in this role.

A thanks from President Trump. We got him to bring back common sense, strength in America. Resolve in America. We can do big things—and we can do them on time and on budget—because we are responsible to spend the taxpayer money of 340 million Americans.

Your delivery—early, on budget—and the whole modernization program so far ahead of schedule, a huge warm thank you from President Trump.

And I’ll end with a thank you for the American people—all the American people. They go to sleep more secure at night, not worried about foreign invaders. They’ve got worries, indeed, but it’s a luxury to worry about other things.

If you’re worried about your physical security—of you and your kids—nothing else matters. Well, because of your tireless efforts here for generations, you give all Americans a feeling of security. I’ve got things to worry about, but my foreign enemies aren’t one of them.

God bless you all. Thank you for your tremendous work. I’m proud to be your partner.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Man Charged in Connection with Fraudulent COVID-19 Relief Loan Applications Totaling More than $3.39M

Source: United States Attorneys General 13

A Georgia man was arrested today in connection with his role in 15 fraudulent COVID-19 relief loan applications administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program, totaling more than $3.39 million in fraudulent loan proceeds.

According to court documents, Ian Patrick Jackson, 37, of Atlanta, conspired with another Atlanta man to solicit, recruit, and direct at least nine business owners to submit fraudulent PPP loan applications using fabricated tax documents. Jackson and his co-conspirator allegedly directed the business owners to falsely claim in the loan applications that each business employed 16 individuals and paid monthly wages of $120,000. After receiving the funds, the business owners wrote “payroll” checks to individuals who did not work for their companies and then either kept the money for themselves or gave the money to the co-conspirator, who in turn provided a share to Jackson.

Jackson is the 12th defendant to be charged in connection with the Atlanta-based PPP fraud ring that allegedly fraudulently obtained millions in PPP loans. All eleven previously charged defendants, including the nine business owners, have pleaded guilty or been convicted at trial related to $2.7 million in fraudulent PPP loans. To date, authorities have recovered nearly $1.2 million of the stolen money.

In addition to the charged conspiracy, Jackson is alleged to have participated in three other schemes to submit fraudulent PPP or EIDL applications: (1) He applied for a fraudulent $237,500 PPP loan on behalf of Parkway Media Group LLC using fabricated tax forms and a doctored bank statement; (2) He used a forged driver’s license to fraudulently apply for approximately $100,000 in PPP and EIDL program loans using false revenue statements; and (3) He fraudulently obtained a $240,035 PPP loan and $125,000 in EIDL program loans and grants on behalf of Express Xchange LLC. As alleged in the indictment, he wrote checks made payable to individuals who did not work for the businesses using the loan proceeds. He also allegedly used the loan proceeds to pay for personal expenses, including restaurant dining, spa services, phone and credit card payments, and a vacation in Aruba.

Jackson is charged with conspiracy to commit bank fraud, two counts of bank fraud, two counts of wire fraud, and two counts of money laundering. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison on each of the conspiracy and bank fraud counts and 20 years in prison on each of the wire fraud and money laundering counts.

Matthew R. Galeotti, Head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg for the Northern District of Georgia, Deputy Inspector General Sheldon Shoemaker of the Small Business Administration Office of the Inspector General and Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown of the FBI Atlanta Field Office made the announcement.

The SBA Office of Inspector General and FBI Atlanta Field Office are investigating the case.

Trial Attorney Matthew Reilly of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Diane C. Schulman for the Northern District of Georgia are prosecuting the case.

Since the inception of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section has prosecuted over 150 defendants in more than 95 criminal cases and has seized over $75 million in cash proceeds derived from fraudulently obtained PPP funds, as well as numerous real estate properties and luxury items purchased with such proceeds. More information can be found at www.justice.gov/criminal-fraud/ppp-fraud.

Anyone with information about allegations of attempted fraud involving COVID-19 can report it by calling the Department of Justice’s National Center for Disaster Fraud (NCDF) Hotline via the NCDF Web Complaint Form at www.justice.gov/disaster-fraud/ncdf-disaster-complaint-form.

An indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Man Will Serve 12 Years for Orchestrating Out-of-State Home Invasion from Prison

Source: Office of United States Attorneys

OXFORD, MS – Sean Patrick Curtis, 29, was sentenced today to 12 years in prison for causing a home invasion while he was in custody for a state sentence.

According to documents and evidence presented in court, on the evening of January 17, 2023, two men entered a home in the State of Nevada, where a couple and their two minor children were present. The victims were held at gunpoint and an adult victim was assaulted and robbed.

Investigators later learned that Curtis directed the men to the home. At the time, Curtis was serving a sentence in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Curtis communicated through social media applications and FaceTime to orchestrate the home invasion and target a former girlfriend. Curtis pled guilty to cyberstalking earlier this year.

U.S. District Court Judge Glen H. Davidson sentenced Curtis to 144 months imprisonment followed by a three-year term of supervised release for the offense.

“This defendant, from prison, directed a home invasion which terrorized a family and could have ended in greater tragedy,” said U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner. “Great investigative work by our partners at the FBI, and the work done by AUSA Addison led to the proper result – prison for a violent offender.”

This case was investigated by the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Howell Addison prosecuted the case.

  • MIL-OSI Security: D.C. Man Sentenced to More Than 30 Years for Violent Armed Robbery Spree in Prince George’s County

Source: Office of United States Attorneys

Greenbelt, Maryland – Today, U.S. District Judge Lydia K. Griggsby sentenced William David Hill, aka Old Man, aka Tank, 68, of Washington, D.C., to more than 33 years in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release. This sentence is in connection with two armed commercial robberies — and the discharging of a firearm during one of the robberies — in November 2016.

Kelly O. Hayes, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, announced the sentence with Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) – Baltimore Field Office.

On July 3, 2019, following a seven-day trial, a federal jury convicted Hill and co-defendant Ronnell Francis Lewis of the robberies.  According to the evidence presented at trial, on November 22, 2016, Lewis, Hill, and a co-conspirator robbed an auto repair business in Clinton, Maryland.

Specifically, the evidence showed that the robbers entered the business brandishing firearms and ordered two employees to get on the ground.  The defendants took money from the victims’ pockets and ordered them into the front office.  They then bound and gagged one victim with zip ties and duct tape, respectively.  The second victim fought. As a result, the robbers shot and ultimately paralyzed the second victim, before fleeing in a vehicle that they stole earlier in the day.

As detailed at trial, on November 26, 2016, the defendants also robbed a barbershop in Seat Pleasant, Maryland.  According to the trial testimony, the two defendants entered the business, ordered everyone on the ground, and then robbed them.

During the robbery, the defendants threatened the victims with violence.  According to the evidence, the robbers put the cash in a dark, single-strap duffle bag and fled in a stolen minivan.

Police saw the minivan at a traffic light and attempted to halt the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, fleeing into Washington, D.C.  Law enforcement eventually stopped Lewis and the driver and seized their vehicle. The third person, later identified as Hill, escaped but authorities eventually apprehended him.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.  Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts.  PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.

U.S. Attorney Hayes commended the FBI for its work in the investigation and thanked the Prince George’s County Police Department, Seat Pleasant Police Department, and the Metropolitan Police Department for their assistance.  Ms. Hayes also thanked Assistant U.S. Attorneys Megan S. McKoy and Elizabeth Wright who prosecuted the case.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Retired U.S. Navy Admiral Found Guilty in Bribery Scheme

Source: Office of United States Attorneys

WASHINGTON – Admiral Robert Burke (USN-Ret.), 62, of Coconut Creek, Florida, was found guilty of bribery today in connection with accepting future employment at a government vendor in exchange for awarding that company a government contract.

Following a five-day trial, a federal jury found Burke guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery, bribery, performing acts affecting a personal financial interest, and concealing material facts from the United States. U.S. District Court Judge Trevor N. McFadden scheduled sentencing for August 22, 2025.

The verdict was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, Matthew R. Galeotti Head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, Special Agent in Charge Greg Gross of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) Economic Crimes Field Office, and Assistant Director in Charge Steven J. Jensen of the FBI Washington Field Office.

“When you abuse your position and betray the public trust to line your own pockets, it undermines the confidence in the government you represent,” said U.S. Attorney Pirro. “Our office, with our law enforcement partners, will root out corruption – be it bribes or illegal contracts – and hold accountable the perpetrators, no matter what title or rank they hold.”

According to court documents and as the evidence proved at trial, from 2020 to 2022, Burke was a four-star Admiral who oversaw U.S. naval operations in Europe, Russia, and most of Africa, and commanded thousands of civilian and military personnel. The two co-defendants Kim and Messenger were the co-CEOs of a company (Company A) and provided a workforce training pilot program to a small component of the Navy from August 2018 through July 2019. The Navy terminated a contract with Company A in late 2019 and directed Company A not to contact Burke.

Despite the Navy’s instructions, the co-defendants met with Burke in Washington, D.C., in July 2021, to reestablish Company A’s business relationship with the Navy. At the meeting, the charged defendants agreed that Burke would use his position as a Navy Admiral to steer a contract to Company A in exchange for future employment at the company. They further agreed that Burke would use his official position to influence other Navy officers to award another contract to Company A to train a large portion of the Navy with a value one of the co-defendants allegedly estimated to be “triple digit millions.”

In December 2021, Burke ordered his staff to award a $355,000 contract to Company A to train personnel under Burke’s command in Italy and Spain. Company A performed the training in January 2022. Thereafter, Burke promoted Company A in a failed effort to convince another senior Navy Admiral to award another contract to Company A. To conceal the scheme, Burke made several false and misleading statements to the Navy, including by falsely implying that Company A’s employment discussions with Burke only began months after the contract was awarded and omitting the truth on his required government ethics disclosure forms.

In October 2022, Burke began working at Company A at a yearly starting salary of $500,000 and a grant of 100,000 stock options.

This case was investigated by the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and the FBI’s Washington Field Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca G. Ross for the District of Columbia and Trial Attorneys Trevor Wilmot and Kathryn E. Fifield of the Criminal Division’s Public Integrity Section. It was investigated and indicted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Rothstein.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Mexican National Sentenced to 40 Months in Prison for Role in Smuggling and Labor Trafficking Scheme, Illegally Reentering U.S.

Source: Office of United States Attorneys

David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that APOLINAR FRANCISCO PAREDES ESPINOZA, also known as “Pancho,” 58, a citizen of Mexico last residing in Hartford, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport to 40 months of imprisonment, for illegally reentering the U.S. and his involvement in a scheme to smuggle aliens into the U.S., harbor them at Hartford area residences, force them to work, and threaten to harm them in various ways if they failed to pay exorbitant fees, interest, and other living expenses.

According to court documents and statements made in court, beginning in September 2022, the FBI and Hartford Police interviewed several Mexican nationals who disclosed that they were smuggled from Mexico into the U.S. and transported to Hartford.  The investigation revealed that victims typically arranged with Maria Del Carmen Sanchez Potrero and others in Connecticut and Mexico to cross the border into the U.S. in exchange for a fee of between $15,000 and $20,000 that each would need to pay once they were in the U.S.  In most cases, the victims were required to turn over a property deed as collateral before leaving Mexico.  They were then smuggled across the border and transported to Hartford area residences, including Sanchez’s and Paredes’ residence on Madison Street in Hartford, often at a substantial risk of bodily injury or death.

After the victims arrived in Connecticut, they were told that they would have to pay approximately $30,000, with interest, and that they would have to pay Sanchez and her co-coconspirators for rent, food, gas and utilities.  Sanchez, Paredes, and their co-conspirators created false documents for the victims, including Permanent Residence cards and Social Security cards, and helped the victims find employment in the Hartford area.  In addition to their own jobs, some victims were required to perform housework and yardwork, or to assist Paredes in his job responsibilities, without compensation and without having their debt reduced.

Victims were rarely provided with an accounting of their debt.  If victims failed to make regular payments, or in amounts that Sanchez, Paredes, and their co-conspirators expected, they were sometimes threatened, including with threats to harm family members in Mexico, to take property in Mexico that had been secured as collateral, to reveal victims’ immigration status to U.S. authorities, and to raise their interest payments.

To date, investigators have identified 19 victims of this scheme.  Multiple victims were minors, and at least two were smuggled into the U.S. unaccompanied by a relative or legal guardian.

In November 2014, Paredes was encountered in the U.S. and removed the same day via foot at Hildago, Texas.  He illegally reentered the U.S. and, in December 2018, was arrested by East Hartford Police and charged with various motor vehicle offenses.  He was again removed to Mexico in February 2019, and subsequently illegally reentered the U.S.

Paredes has been detained since his arrest on March 1, 2023.  On November 22, 2024, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to encourage and induce, bring in, transport, and harbor aliens, and to illegal reentry of a removed alien.

Sanchez and her daughter, Porfiria Maribel Ramos Sanchez, previously pleaded guilty to related charges.  On April 11, 2025, Sanchez was sentenced to 51 months of imprisonment, and on March 7, 2025, Ramos was sentenced to 36 months of imprisonment.

Judge Dooley ordered Paredes to pay, jointly and severally with his codefendants, restitution of $574,608.

Paredes, Sanchez, and Ramos face immigration proceedings when they complete their prison terms.

This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Hartford Police Department, U.S. Department of Labor – Office of Inspector General, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Angel Krull and Shan Patel.

BEAUMONT, Texas – A Beaumont man has been sentenced to federal prison for fraud violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr.

Jerry Leonard Carnley, Jr., 55, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on May 16, 2025.  Carnley was also ordered to pay restitution of $191,251.35 to his victims.

According to information presented in court, Carnley was employed as an office manager and information technology (IT) specialist for a local psychiatric practice. As such, Carnley had access to the business checking account.  As part of his scheme to defraud the business, Carnley would utilize the business checking account, which had a debit card attached to it, and withdraw money from ATMs for matters other than business, including his own personal use. One of Carnley’s responsibilities was to provide an accounting firm with documents necessary for the filing of federal income tax returns. From December 2020 to September 2021, However, Carnley purposefully refused to provide the accounting firm with requested information such as quick books and bank statements. Eventually, Carnley told the accounting firm that he would file the taxes himself and that the doctor would no longer be using their services.  These actions allowed Carnley to continue to discretely withdraw money from the business checking account. Carnley befriended the doctor’s mother with the pretense of getting to know the doctor better and obtained information that would help him change passwords to bank accounts.  From November 2020 to December 2021, Carnley made 355 unauthorized withdrawals from an ATM machine located at the Delta Downs Racetrack, Hotel and Casino in Vinton, Louisiana, and 53 unauthorized cash withdrawals from banks in and around Beaumont, Texas. As a result of the scheme, Carnley was responsible for obtaining over $191,000 by fraud.

Special Agent in Charge (SAC) W. He had been arrested without incident in Chimalhuacan, Estado de Mexico, Mexico, on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

Urbano-Vazquez was wanted for his alleged involvement in the homicide and rape of Sharon Van Gilder in Pierce County, Washington, in 2002. Additionally, he has been charged for the rapes of three other individuals in 2002. Between 2002 and 2012, the rape cases and the murder case were unsolved, but in 2012 the cases were linked by DNA evidence to Urbano-Vazquez, who was identified as the suspect in all four.

Urbano-Vazquez was charged with murder and three separate rapes in the Superior Court of Washington for Pierce County, Washington, and a local arrest warrant was issued for him in October 2012.

In 2018, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the FBI in locating and apprehending Urbano-Vazquez, as the investigation determined he had been deported to Mexico.

“This extradition should send a message to those who commit violence in our communities: you can run, but you can’t hide. Thanks to strong international partnerships, Mr. Urbano-Vazquez has learned that lesson first-hand and now will face justice here in the State of Washington for his horrific actions threatening our community,” said SAC Herrington.

Source: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) State Crime Alerts (b)

The FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force, along with the Denver and Greenwood Village Police Departments, need the public’s help identifying three individuals who independently robbed three banks earlier this year. Although the images of these suspects are clear, none of these individuals have been positively identified.

The FBI Denver Division has referred to them as the “One-hit Wonders” because we have linked each suspect to one bank robbery, and we are wondering who these individuals are. Hence, we are requesting assistance publicizing the subjects’ photographs with the goal of generating information that results in identifying the subjects.

“We know that mobilizing the general public is a powerful crime-fighting tool,” said FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek. “In fact, we have a recent federal sentencing in which we identified the so-called Penguin Bandit after a tip came in from the public. • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: National security update

Source: United Kingdom – Executive Government & Departments

    Oral statement to Parliament

    National security update

The Home Secretary updated on government action to counter state threats following the charging of three Iranian nationals under the National Security Act 2023.

Thank you, Mr Speaker. With permission I will make a statement on the charging of 3 individuals under the National Security Act that took place on 17 May, and the further action the government is taking to counter national security threats.

Mr Speaker I want to thank the police, security and intelligence agencies, not just for their work on vital operations and investigations that are currently underway but for the dedication they show each day to defend our national security and keep our communities safe.

Their tireless work – often in the shadows, often in secret, often in great personal danger – is indispensable. I hope the whole House will join me in paying tribute to their service.

On Saturday 17 May, 3 Iranian nationals were charged with offences under the National Security Act 2023.

All 3 have been charged with engaging in conduct likely to assist a foreign intelligence service. Additional charges were brought in relation to engaging in conduct, including surveillance, reconnaissance and open research, with the intention to commit acts of serious violence against a person in the United Kingdom. The foreign state to which these charges relate is Iran, and these individuals are the first Iranian nationals to be charged under the National Security Act.

The criminal and national security investigations in these cases are ongoing, and the police and security services have my support in this vital work. These cases must now also progress through the criminal justice system and that means that until the trial there are limits on what we can discuss so as not to prejudice that process.

However, there are a series of grave, wider issues where I want to update the house on the stronger action the government is taking to strengthen our national security including new powers on state threats, further action on Iran and strengthening our border security to keep the public safe.

This is the first time there have been charges under the National Security Act linked to Iran, although the House will be aware that this comes against a backdrop of rising numbers of Iran-linked operations on UK soil where there have been repeated warnings by ministers, the police and our security and intelligence agencies. The Director General of MI5 said in October last year that the police and MI5 had responded to 20 Iran backed plots presenting potentially lethal threats.

So let me be clear, we will not tolerate any state backed threats on UK soil. The Iranian regime poses an unacceptable threat to our domestic security which cannot continue.

Following this charging decision, I can confirm that the Iranian Ambassador has been summoned.

And my Right Honourable Friend the Foreign Secretary is raising with the Iranian Foreign Minister in the strongest terms, that the UK will not accept any Iranian state threat activity in the UK.

As the Security Minister set out in March, we have placed the whole of the Iranian state on the enhanced tier of the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme  which is due to come into effect on 1 July.

The government has also introduced sanctions as part of efforts to systematically dismantle criminal networks and enablers that Iran uses to carry out its work – including the Foxtrot network, sanctioned last month.

International co-operation is critical in challenging Iranian transnational threats. That is why we will be convening ministerial counterparts from allied nations facing similar threats to discuss coordinated action.

But we need to go further in strengthening our powers to address national security threats.

The Security Minister and I have both warned of the increasing complexity of the threats we face. Threats from extremist and terrorist groups and individuals – including Islamist extremism and far right extremism – continue. And vigilance and action against those remains crucial.

But malign activities against us by or on behalf of foreign states have grown and the threats we face are more complex and intertwined.

MI5 state threats investigations have increased by nearly 50% in a year. Policing investigations into state threats – led by counter terrorism policing – are up fivefold since 2018.

As well as growing, those threats are also evolving – they are becoming more interconnected and more intertwined. The old boundaries between state threats, terrorists and organised criminals, are being eroded. And we have seen malign foreign state organisations seek to exploit any vulnerability from criminal networks to our cyber security to our borders to do us harm.

In our manifesto, we committed to stronger action on state based security threats.

And before entering government, the Foreign Secretary and I set out plans for the establishment of a joint unit to pursue and coordinate action.

I can announce that the new state threats joint unit is in place, with staff from across Whitehall, driving a broader approach across government, building new partnerships with industry and academia.

Last week, the Security Minister set out the conclusions of a review by the defending democracy taskforce into transnational repression – where foreign states attempt intimidation, surveillance and harassment of UK-based individuals including stronger support for those who are being targeted. This is criminal activity and will be treated as such because everyone in this country should be able to go about their daily lives freely and without fear.

We are clear that this is criminal activity and will be treated as such.  Everyone in this country should be able to go about their daily lives freely and without fear. Threats will not be tolerated and we will support anyone at risk of such activity.

We have of course supported the National Security Act, rightly brought in by the previous government. But we need to go further.

That is why I commissioned Jonathan Hall KC, the independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, to examine further gaps in the national security legislation where counter terrorism powers could be emulated and particularly looking at proscribing powers where I have long raised concern that it was too difficult to apply existing powers for state and state-backed bodies

Today Mr Hall has published his review. I would like to thank him for working so swiftly and comprehensively.

He has concluded there are gaps in a series of areas – including on proscribing legislation where he identifies a series of legal difficulties in using powers that were designed to deal with terrorist groups for state and state-backed organisations such as the IRGC.

I can tell the House that we are committed to taking forward Mr Hall’s recommendations and we will draw up new powers modelled on counter terrorism powers in a series of areas to tackle these state threats.

And crucially I can tell the House we will create a new power of proscription to cover state threats – a power that is stronger than current national security act powers in allowing us to restrict the activity and operations of foreign state backed organisations in the UK, including new criminal offences for individuals who invite support for or promote the group in question and we will not hesitate to use it against organisations that pose a threat to UK residents because we will not stand for foreign state organisations seeking to escalate threats on UK soil.

Mr Speaker as confirmed at the weekend, the 3 individuals who have been charged came to the UK between 2016 and 2022 by lorry and small boat.

This government has made clear – border security is national security. That is why we are introducing new counter terrorism powers at the border. But let me also be clear that our border security needs to be strengthened.

Organised crime, malign state actors and extremists can all exploit any vulnerabilities.

So the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill is introducing a wide range of counter terrorism style powers to pursue organised immigration crime and strengthen border investigations. We have introduced the Border Security Command which is drawing together security operations around our border, which have not been taken seriously enough before,  modelled on the approach successive governments have taken to counter terrorism.

As part of our existing CT capabilities, security identity and criminal record checks are carried out on everyone who applies for a visa through our immigration system, on identified clandestine entries and on those who arrive by small boat – so that immigration and counter terrorism powers can then be used to address threats – including refusals, restrictions, tagging, heightened monitoring and immigration bail. But I have instructed officials to review those capabilities against the state threats as well as terrorism related risks we face so we can strengthen our security response alongside the new counter terrorism style border powers we are introducing.

We are also already reviewing our current response to criminality or threats in the asylum system, including the potential for greater use of a range of techniques and technology, and as well as the existing ability to revoke or effuse asylum.

Finally, Mr Speaker, in the face of this increasing range of hybrid threats to our national security, the Prime Minister has committed to publish a new national security strategy. That strategy is in development and will set out not just how our world leading police and security and intelligence agencies, but also how the whole of government and society, including businesses and communities; need to respond to these changing and complex threats.

National security is the first duty of government. It is the foundation of our Plan for Change. The threats we face are more intertwined than ever and our response needs to adapt. So together with our international allies, we need to face down the security threats and strengthen the powers and capabilities of the police and security services who work around the clock to investigate and disrupt those who mean us harm. Our agencies have the wholehearted support of this government because, Mr Speaker, in a volatile and uncertain world, their efforts could not matter more. I commend this statement to the House.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Glenn Ivey – Maryland (4th District)

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Glenn Ivey, (MD-04), joined Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD), Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08), Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03), Congressman Johnny Olszewski (MD-02), and Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (MD-06) and Governor Wes Moore issued the following statement on Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel’s recent comments about the FBI headquarters:

“Today, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Kash Patel recognized what everyone, including his predecessors, have known for decades: the J. Edgar Hoover Building is unsafe, unworthy, and unaccommodating of the FBI’s vital national security and law enforcement mission. We agree with his statement that ‘if you’re going to come work at the premier law enforcement agency in the world, we’re going to give you a building that is commensurate with that.’

“The solution is clear, and the decision to move the headquarters to the site in Greenbelt, Maryland, was final. This site was selected based on a thorough, objective process examining cost, construction timeline, transportation access, community impact, and the FBI’s mission requirements.

“Team Maryland remains committed to providing the world’s premier law enforcement agency with the world’s premier law enforcement facility. If the Trump Administration truly shares that goal, it will work with us to proceed on this project.”

  • MIL-OSI Security: St. Louis Area Man Accused of Fentanyl, Methamphetamine Dealing

Source: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) State Crime Alerts (b)

ST. LOUIS – A man accused of involvement in methamphetamine and fentanyl dealing was arrested by the FBI in Richmond Heights, Missouri Friday.

Albert James, 47, was indicted Wednesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis on one count of conspiracy with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He pleaded not guilty Friday.

The indictment accuses James of agreeing with others in 2021 to possess with the intent to distribute more than 500 grams of meth and 400 grams of fentanyl. The indictment also seeks the forfeiture of $18,920 in cash.

In court, Assistant U.S. Attorney Dianna Edwards said the charges related to a traffic stop in Oklahoma, when James was caught with pounds of meth and fentanyl.

“This is part of a larger on-going investigation,” said Special Agent in Charge Chris Crocker of the FBI St. Louis Division. “Perpetrators should not underestimate the FBI’s expertise, resources, and tenacity to dismantle criminal networks.”

Each charge carries a potential prison sentence of at least 10 years, with a maximum term of life.

Charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations and do not constitute proof of guilt.  Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The FBI and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dianna Edwards is prosecuting the case.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Manchester Man Sentenced for Defrauding State and Federal Taxpayers of Nearly $300K in Pandemic Relief Funds

Source: Office of United States Attorneys

CONCORD – A Manchester man was sentenced for his involvement in a scheme to fraudulently obtain CARES Act funds from the United States government and the State of New York, Acting U.S. Attorney Jay McCormack announces.

Kyereem Sackey, age 25, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Landya McCafferty to 18 months in federal prison and 3 years of supervised release.  Sackey was also ordered to make restitution in the amount of $295,167.  In January 2025, Sackey pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of bank fraud.

“The defendant exploited a national crisis for personal gain,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Jay McCormack. “He stole nearly $300k in pandemic relief funds that were meant to support struggling families and small businesses. This office will continue to investigate and prosecute those who stole from the government during the pandemic and intentionally depleted the public fisc for personal profit.”

“While the entire world was focused on dealing with a pandemic, Kyereem Sackey was selfishly focused on exploiting programs designed to help people struggling financially to instead enrich himself,” said Kimberly Milka, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division. “With today’s sentence, Mr. Sackey has been held accountable for cheating taxpayers, and the FBI will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to identify and bring to justice those who have committed similar crimes.”

“Kyereem Sackey and his co-defendants engaged in a scheme to fraudulently obtain New York Department of Labor pandemic-related unemployment insurance benefits and Small Business Administration Payroll Protection Program loans. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to hold accountable those who seek to exploit these critical benefit programs,” said Jonathan Mellone, Special Agent-in-Charge, Northeast Region, U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General.

According to the court documents and statements made in court, Sackey used social media to conspire with others to file false and fraudulent unemployment insurance claims. Sackey filed unemployment insurance claims in the State of New York on behalf of a co-defendant, which he was not entitled to.  When the money was deposited into the co-defendant’s bank account, a portion of the money was sent to Sackey and another co-defendant.  Sackey and his co-defendants filed approximately $50,000 in fraudulent unemployment insurance claims.  In addition to the claim made on behalf of his co-defendant, Sackey filed claims on behalf of a dozen individuals as well as himself resulting in more than $250,000 in fraudulent unemployment benefits to be paid by the State of New York.

Sackey also used a co-defendant’s information to apply for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans using a false and fraudulent business that did not exist.  Sackey provided the bank with false documents, including fabricated tax documents.  Court records show that Sackey fraudulently applied for and obtained more than $30,000 in PPP loans.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Labor Office of Inspector General led the investigation.  Valuable assistance was provided by the Manchester Police Department.  Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Kennedy is prosecuting the case.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Latham Sex Offender Indicted for Attempted Coercion and Enticement of a Minor

Source: Office of United States Attorneys

ALBANY, NEW YORK – Nathaniel Drescher, age 41, of Latham, New York, was arraigned last Thursday on an indictment charging him with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor and the commission of a felony offense against a minor by a registered sex offender.  Drescher was ordered detained pending trial.

United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), made the announcement.

According to the indictment, Drescher knowingly attempted to persuade, induce, and entice a child whom he believed to be 11 years old to engage in sexual activity.  This conduct follows Drescher’s 2012 convictions in Johnson County, Texas, for online solicitation of a minor. The charges in the indictment are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

United States Attorney Sarcone stated: “This conduct, as alleged, was especially egregious because the defendant had committed a similar offense before in Texas.  With our state and federal law enforcement partners, we will continue to ensure that sex offenders are prosecuted to the fullest extent to the law when they commit new crimes.”

FBI Special Agent in Charge Tremaroli stated: “This indictment proves crimes against our most vulnerable will be met with swift and decisive action. The FBI, together with our law enforcement partners, is committed to protecting children and bringing predators like Mr. Drescher to justice.”

If convicted on all counts, Drescher faces at least 20 years and up to life in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life.  A defendant’s sentence is imposed by a judge based on the particular statutes the defendant is charged with violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors. In addition, Drescher would have to continue to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

The FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force is investigating the case, with assistance from the New York State Police.  Assistant United States Attorney Allen J. Vickey is prosecuting the case as Part of Project Safe Childhood.

Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. • MIL-OSI Security: Two More Defendants Plead Guilty in Bank Fraud and Identity Theft Conspiracy

Source: Office of United States Attorneys

ALBANY, NEW YORK – Kani Bassie, age 36, of Brooklyn, New York, and Jermon Brooks, age 20, of Richmond, Virginia, pled guilty last week to their roles in a multi-million-dollar bank fraud conspiracy led by Oluwaseun Adekoya, age 39, a Nigerian citizen.  United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), made the announcement.

Bassie and Brooks admitted that they were members of a conspiracy to defraud financial institutions all over the country by obtaining the personal identifying information (“PII”) of individuals and using lower-level “workers” to impersonate the identity-theft victims to conduct fraudulent banking transactions in their names.  Bassie and Brooks supervised and oversaw lower-level coconspirators who withdrew hundreds of thousands of dollars from identity-theft victims in the Northern District of New York and all over the country.  Bassie admitted to conspiring with alleged ringleader Adekoya to launder bank fraud proceeds in transactions designed to conceal and disguise the nature, location, source, ownership, and control of the proceeds and to use bank fraud proceeds to reinvest in the ongoing conspiracy.

Adekoya, the alleged ringleader of the conspiracy, faces trial beginning June 9, 2025 before United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino on a second superseding indictment charging him with one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, one count of money laundering conspiracy, and nine counts of aggravated identity theft. The charges against Adekoya in the second superseding indictment are merely accusations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

“And then there was one,” United States Attorney Sarcone said.  “We look forward to trial. We appreciate the efforts of the FBI, and many other law enforcement partners across the country, in uncovering this scheme.”

FBI Special Agent in Charge Tremaroli stated: “The FBI takes very seriously our responsibility to investigate and pursue those who commit fraud for personal gain. We will continue working with our law enforcement partners to hold accountable those who use illegal means and criminal behavior to take advantage of others.”

The prosecution is the result of an ongoing investigation led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and FBI Albany Field Office, which began after the May 2022 arrest of David Daniyan, a/k/a “Bamikole Laniyan,” a/k/a “David Enfield,” a/k/a “Africa,” age 60, of Brooklyn, New York, Gaysha Kennedy, age 46, of Brooklyn, and Victor Barriera, age 64, of the Bronx, New York, by the Cohoes Police Department after the trio traveled to the Capital Region to commit bank fraud.  According to documents previously filed in the case, the investigation has uncovered over $2 million in fraudulent transactions to date.  Thirteen defendants have pled guilty and forfeited hundreds of thousands of dollars in proceeds, luxury apparel, and jewelry.

At sentencing later this year, Bassie and Brooks face a maximum term of 30 years’ incarceration for the bank fraud conspiracy, Bassie faces a maximum term of 20 years’ incarceration for the money laundering conspiracy, and Bassie and Brooks face a mandatory consecutive term of 2 years’ incarceration for their convictions of aggravated identity theft.  The defendants will be ordered to pay restitution and will also face a term of post-incarceration supervised release of up to 5 years.

FBI Albany is investigating the case, with assistance from the FBI Field Offices in New York, Newark, Richmond and Resident Agencies in Westchester, New York; Brooklyn/Queens, New York; Garrett Mountain, New Jersey; and Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  Additional assistance was provided by other law enforcement agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement & Removal Operations (New York Field Office & Albany sub-office); U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service (Buffalo Field Office & St. Albans Resident Office); U.S. Social Security Administration – Office of the Inspector General; New York law enforcement agencies including the New York State Police; Cohoes PD; Colonie PD; Elmira PD; Corning PD; Plattsburgh PD; Florida law enforcement agencies including the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Escambia County Sheriff’s Office; the Pennsylvania State Police; Alabama law enforcement agencies including the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Gasden PD, and Rainbow City PD; Georgia law enforcement agencies including the Georgia State Patrol, Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, and Morrow PD; Kansas law enforcement agencies including Lawrence PD and Overland Park PD; New Hampshire law enforcement agencies including Rochester PD, Manchester PD, and Amherst PD; the Delaware State Police; Maryland law enforcement agencies including the Maryland State Police, Harford County Sheriff’s Office and Baltimore County Sheriff’s Office; Wisconsin law enforcement agencies including Onalaska PD and Eau Claire PD; and Indiana law enforcement agencies including the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.

Assistant United States Attorneys Benjamin S. Clark, Mathew M. Paulbeck, and Joshua R. Rosenthal are prosecuting this case.

LOS ANGELES, May 19 (Xinhua) — Guy Edward Bartkus, 25, is the prime suspect in a car bombing Saturday outside a fertility clinic in the southern California city of Palm Springs, authorities said Sunday.

Authorities believe the suspect was killed in the blast and at least four others were injured.

“The suspect had a nihilistic streak,” FBI Los Angeles Field Office Assistant Director Akil Davis said at a news conference Sunday, adding that the bombing was a “targeted attack.”

According to him, the suspect tried to broadcast the explosions live.

Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills said at a news conference Sunday that investigators were continuing to gather evidence at the explosion scene.

    E. Mills noted that “the city is safe” and “our society is not in any danger.” –0–

What Are The Unique Characteristics of Zappify (Zappify Reviews)

    • 30 m² 360° Coverage Zone: Zappify’s refined cylindrical design projects its electrified grid in a full 360° arc, creating an insect‐free perimeter up to 30 square meters—three times the range of its first model. Internally, the device holds optimally spaced stainless‐steel electrodes that support uniform voltage across the entire surface. This guarantees that any mosquito entering the marked zone is attracted and neutralized, whether the unit sits on a tabletop corner or in the center of your balcony.
    • 13-Hour Rechargeable Battery Pack: Fundamentally, Zappify contains a high‐capacity lithium‐ion battery that lasts for 13 hours of continuous operation. The battery cells are installed in a rugged, IPX5‐rated housing to withstand outdoor moisture, while an improved charging circuit regulates current for safe, effective recharges via USB-C. This extended autonomy lets you utilize the unit overnight or throughout day long outdoor activities.
    • 2,000-Volt Electric Elimination Grid: Zappify’s advanced zapper grid provided a high‐voltage pulse of 2,000 volts, over three times the power of the earlier generation, through its corrosion‐resistant electrodes. The grid’s mesh spacing is accurately calibrated to admit even the smallest mosquitoes while eliminating accidental contact by fingers or pets. When an insect enters the space, the intense discharge instantly terminates it, converting electrical energy into a quick, clean arc.
    • Portable and Compact: Zappify is lightweight and compact, making it easy to take with you wherever you go. It easily fits in your bag, as you head out this summer. You can use it at the park, patio, ball game, or wherever you want for maximum mosquito relief. It’s perfect for any activities you don’t want mosquitoes to ruin!
    • Three-Band UV Light Attraction System: Replacing the single‐wavelength bulb of its predecessor, Zappify uses a tri‐band UV lamp that emits three distinct ultraviolet frequencies proven to attract a broader spectrum of mosquito species. Each band is tuned to specific insect photoreceptors, optimizing attraction efficacy by up to 300%. Enclosed within a secured quartz sleeve, the UV modules are rated for long-term stability, ensuring consistent output over hundreds of work hours.
    • Integrated 12-LED Ultra-Bright Lantern: Beyond its bug‐zapping capabilities, Zappify has an array of 12 high-intensity LEDs around its base, serving as a multi-purpose lantern. Each LED is selected for enhanced luminosity and energy efficiency, delivering ambient illumination for campsites, balconies, or interior spaces. The LEDs are calibrated with the unit’s power management system to draw minimal current, ensuring the lighting feature can run concurrently impacting overall battery life.
    • Precision Battery Life Indicator: To keep users informed, Zappify features a digital battery‐life indicator panel installed in it. Three LED segments display the remaining charge in real time, and a single button press provides an instant status update. The indicator circuit blends with the device’s charge controller to adapt to any temperature and load, providing a precise estimate of remaining operational time, removing any guesswork, and ensuring you know accurately when to recharge.
    • Weatherproof: Zappify has an IPX5 waterproof rating that makes it compatible with outdoor use. The anti-bug lamp is designed to withstand weather conditions, including rain, intense heat, wind, and extreme weather. As a result, it can function appropriately in outdoor environments without being damaged. Moreover, it’s durable and practical as it can work in damp conditions. In addition, it’s convenient as it doesn’t require additional protection or maintenance.
    • Noiseless Operation: Zappify’s noteworthy and defining feature is its ability to operate quietly. In contrast to other portable gadgets of its sort, the Zappify runs silently, which is great because it means you won’t have to put up with excessive noise.
    • Chemicals-free: The Zappify sets itself apart from traditional insecticides and mosquito zappers, which include a number of chemicals or other substances that are exceedingly dangerous to human health. Zappify 2.0 kills insects without the use of harmful chemicals. It is a third-generation device that attracts and zaps insects or pests using UV light energy.
    • Handy Hanging Loop: Zappify comes with a handy hanging loop that makes it easy to hang anywhere you need it. You can hang it in your backyard, on your patio, or even in your tent. It is an ideal camping or outdoor accessory for any summer adventure.

Police have restrained more than $650,000 in assets, following the arrest of a Wellington-based man on Friday as part of an FBI investigation.

The man appeared in the Auckland District Court on Friday for his alleged involvement in an organised criminal group that stole cryptocurrency from seven victims valued at US$265M (NZD$450M).

The Wellington High Court has now issued restraining orders under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009 for assets valued at $670,000 including cash held in bank accounts, cash held in a lawyer’s trust account for the purchase of a property, cryptocurrency, and high value goods.

We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners in the United States to recover assets alleged to have been stolen by the organised criminal group.

An interim name suppression order remains in place.
