  • MIL-OSI: Hut 8 Energizes Vega Data Center

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

205 MW facility will support up to ~15 EH/s of next-generation rack-based ASIC compute with direct-to-chip liquid cooling

Believed to be the largest single-building Bitcoin mining facility by nameplate hashrate

MIAMI, June 30, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Hut 8 Corp. (Nasdaq | TSX: HUT) (“Hut 8” or the “Company”), an energy infrastructure platform integrating power, digital infrastructure, and compute at scale to fuel next-generation, energy-intensive use cases such as Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing, today announced the initial energization of Vega. Based on publicly available information, we believe Vega to be the largest single-building Bitcoin mining facility by nameplate hashrate. Spanning the equivalent of five football fields and covering 162,000 square feet, Vega is powered by 205 megawatts (“MW”) of nameplate energy capacity and at full energization will support up to ~15 exahash per second (“EH/s”) of BITMAIN U3S21EXPH servers for Bitcoin mining ASIC compute, or nearly 2.0% of current global Bitcoin network hashrate.

Vega debuts a new Tier I data center form factor that narrows the gap between legacy air-cooled ASIC infrastructure and liquid-cooled GPU infrastructure. Unlike traditional mining facilities that rely on forced-air cooling and shelving systems that constrain compute density, Vega features a proprietary, rack-based, direct-to-chip liquid cooling system designed in-house by Hut 8. The architecture supports ASIC deployments at densities of up to 180 kilowatts (“kW”) per rack.

The system’s modular architecture—including pump skids, fluid distribution networks, server racks, switchboards, and smart power distribution units—was designed by Hut 8’s in-house development organization to optimize thermal efficiency, miner stability, and operational reliability. The result is materially higher compute density, greater thermal control, and improved uptime in high-ambient environments like Texas. Initial customer discussions support the potential viability of this architecture for future iterations of high-density, direct-to-chip liquid cooled infrastructure to support emerging HPC workloads and customer needs.

“Vega exemplifies our innovation-driven approach to digital infrastructure design,” said Asher Genoot, CEO of Hut 8. “We built it for where we believe the market is going, using modular architecture and adaptive thermal systems designed to scale and evolve as workload requirements grow more complex. Over the past several weeks, as we’ve brought the site online, it has become clear how well this architecture performs under real-world conditions.”

“Vega’s design is particularly relevant for AI training and other non-customer-facing HPC workloads, where we believe speed, density, and cost efficiency will increasingly take precedence over traditional redundancy standards,” said Jake Palmer, Senior Vice President of Development at Hut 8. “The project represents a design philosophy we intend to scale, refine, and deploy as we continue to bridge the gap between high-cost, high-redundancy builds and lower-cost, application-optimized infrastructure.”

BITMAIN is the client for the full ~15 EH/s deployment at Vega under an ASIC colocation agreement. Based on ERCOT forward energy prices, the agreement is expected to generate between $110 million and $120 million in annualized revenue upon full energization, subject to factors including ERCOT energy pricing and facility uptime. The agreement also includes a purchase option that allows Hut 8 to acquire all or part of the hosted fleet in up to three tranches at a fixed price, exercisable within six months of each tranche’s energization. This structure gives Hut 8 the ability to convert the deployment into self-mining capacity for its Bitcoin mining subsidiary, American Bitcoin Corp., supporting growth in its scale from 10 EH/s to 25 EH/s.

“We are proud to have partnered with Hut 8 to successfully develop and commercialize the next generation of ASIC compute technology,” said Irene Gao, Vice President of Mining at BITMAIN. “Vega demonstrates what is possible when two industry leaders with deep technical expertise come together to push the boundaries of performance, efficiency, and design. We believe this collaboration has set a new benchmark for the industry, and we look forward to expanding on this success in the coming years.”

    Project Highlights

    • Industrial scale: 205 MW of nameplate capacity with a power usage effectiveness (“PUE”) of 1.06, powered behind-the-meter by a wind farm and front-of-the-meter by the ERCOT grid
    • Rack-based architecture: Proprietary rack-based architecture supports 180 kilowatts per rack, 50% higher than the 120-kW requirement of NVIDIA Blackwell HGX GPUs
    • Next-generation ASIC compute technology: Site will host up to 17,280 BITMAIN U3S21EXPH servers (at full energization), the first ASIC miner mass-commercialized by BITMAIN with direct liquid-to-chip cooling within a U form factor, each delivering up to 860 terahash per second (“TH/s”) at 13 joules per terahash (“J/TH”)
    • Direct-to-chip liquid cooling: 96 custom-designed cooling modules circulate 120,000 gallons of glycol-water solution through a closed-loop, reverse return system designed to reduce water consumption versus conventional high-density cooling systems
    • Capital efficiency: Estimated all-in cost of approximately $430,000 to $450,000 per MW of nameplate capacity
    • Time to market: From site acquisition in July 2024 to initial energization in June 2025, Vega was brought online in under a year, demonstrating Hut 8’s ability to use Bitcoin mining infrastructure development to rapidly monetize power assets
    • Commercialization through ASIC Colocation: BITMAIN will consume the full ~15 EH/s deployment at full energization pursuant to a colocation agreement that will generate revenue for Hut 8’s Digital Infrastructure segment and includes a purchase option that, if exercised, would enable American Bitcoin to scale its self-mining capacity from 10 to ~25 EH/s

PREDICTABILITY TOO LOW is used to indicate severe storms may be possible based on some model scenarios. However, the location or occurrence of severe storms are in doubt due to: 1) large differences in the deterministic model solutions, 2) large spread in the ensemble guidance, and/or 3) minimal run-to-run continuity.

POTENTIAL TOO LOW means the threat for a regional area of organized severe storms appears unlikely (i.e., less than 15%) for the forecast day.

    …DISCUSSION…
A mid-level ridge will start the extended period across the Plains
on D4/Thursday. This ridge will shift east through the extended
period. A surface low will develop in the lee of the Rockies and
move slowly north and east, reaching eastern Ontario by D7/Sunday.
This surface low and its associated cold front will likely be the
only potential for any severe weather during the extended period.
However, at this time it appears the stronger shear will be well
displaced from the greater instability. Therefore, severe weather
probabilities are not necessary at this time.

Outside of this frontal zone during the Day 4 to Day 7 period,
thunderstorms are likely. However, weak lapse rates and very weak
shear is anticipated, with minimal storm organization.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Establishing a new model of integrity and green energy, “Green Energy Transparency, Integrity in Action” seminar series launches in Taichung.

    Source: Republic of China Taiwan

To promote low-carbon industrial transformation and corporate integrity governance simultaneously, the Bureau of Industrial Parks (BIP) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has held four “Green Energy Transparency, Integrity in Action” seminars across the Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung-Pingtung branches. The first session was held on May 22 at the Taichung Branch, focusing on the challenges and opportunities of SMEs in energy transformation. The seminar was hosted by Ji Shih-Tsung, Director of the Taichung Branch, and gathered representatives from government, industry, and academia to explore how to implement transparency and integrity in the process of green energy development and work together to establish a corporate model that combines integrity and sustainability.
In his opening remarks, Ji Shih-Tsung, director of the Taichung Branch, stated that promoting integrity and green energy development in tandem has been a key objective of the BIP. By integrating the forces of industry, government, and academia through the practical sharing platform, BIP could not only assist companies in strengthening their ESG concepts, but also guide the park towards a green development path with greater international competitiveness.
The Bureau of Industrial Parks pointed out that enterprises in the parks are increasingly focused on carbon fees, green electricity procurement, and carbon neutrality models. In response to this trend, the seminar spotlighted how SMEs can effectively implement low-carbon transformation while ensuring transparency and integrity in corporate governance. Through diverse case studies and expert insights, the event offered participants actionable strategies for achieving sustainable development.
The seminar invited many heavyweight speakers and benchmark companies in the green energy industry to participate in the event, including Transparency International Chinese Taipei (TICT), which has long been deeply involved in promoting corporate integrity, as well as Sunny Founder and TCC Green Energy Corporation, which have outstanding performance in the field of solar energy and renewable energy. These corporate representatives shared their achievements in green power trading, integrity governance, and corporate social responsibility practices, covering practical experience from development process transparency to supply chain ESG management. Through experience exchange, participants were able to gain a deeper understanding of how green power introduction and ethical management reinforce one another to create a win-win development model for businesses and society.
The topics discussed at the seminar also align closely with Taiwan’s recent sustainable policies. As global supply chains impose stricter requirements on environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) standards, companies are placing greater emphasis on the integrity and transparency of their suppliers when making decisions on green electricity procurement and energy usage. The ability of green energy companies to disclose openly sustainability data has now become a crucial factor in corporate partnerships and procurement strategies.
In addition, TICT delivered an in-depth analysis of monitoring mechanisms in the green energy sector, helping attending companies better understand current regulations and potential risks while enhancing their institutional resilience. This cross-sector collaboration and knowledge sharing also contribute to the industry’s deeper grasp of sustainable governance practices.
Looking ahead, the Bureau of Industrial Parks stated that BIP would continue to uphold principles of integrity and efficiency, actively building cross-disciplinary exchange platforms. By doing so, it seeks to support enterprises in parks in meeting the challenges of international sustainability and equip them for a stable and successful transition.

  • MIL-OSI: Digital Asset Technologies Portfolio Company, LiquidLink Launches Bitcoin Lightning and XRP ILP Nodes

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

VANCOUVER, BC, June 30, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Digital Asset Technologies Inc. (CSE: DATT) (OTCPK: EATBF) (FSE: 988) (“DATT” or the “Company”), a technology focused investment issuer, is pleased to announce that its wholly owned portfolio company, LiquidLink AI Corp. (“LiquidLink”) has launched enterprise-grade infrastructure on the Bitcoin Lightning Network and Ripple’s Interledger Protocol (ILP). These deployments position LiquidLink as a foundational hub in the emerging Internet of Value, much like the backbone ISPs that interconnected global networks in the early 2000s.

The Lightning Network, Bitcoin’s Layer 2 scaling solution, enables instant, low-cost payments. The Interledger Protocol (ILP) seamlessly routes payments across different ledgers. LiquidLink aims to build one of the most connected hubs, bridging fragmented liquidity pools and enabling reliable settlement between networks. The company focuses on being the infrastructure layer merchants and institutions depend on, rather than simply acquiring Bitcoin or XRP.

“We see clear parallels between what we’re building and the early internet,” said Marcus Ingram, CEO of LiquidLink. “Wholesale ISPs created backbones that everyone relied on. LiquidLink is developing a payments backbone to deliver liquidity, reliability, and speed across Bitcoin, XRP, and dozens of other networks.”

With the rise of stablecoins on Bitcoin (via RGB smart contracts and Taproot Assets) and expanding stablecoin support on the XRP Ledger, LiquidLink plans to support this wave of commerce. The recent Clarity for Payment Stablecoins Act (Genius Act) provides clear legal frameworks for regulated stablecoin issuance, further accelerating this momentum.

LiquidLink’s next milestone with respect to its nodes is creating the first cross-chain liquidity bridge to connect Bitcoin-native assets (including RGB tokens, Taproot Assets, Liquid, and Rootstock) with the XRP Ledger. This bridge will facilitate seamless asset movement between Bitcoin and XRPL.

LiquidLink’s node business operates independently but complements XRPFY, the company’s flagship platform for efficient payment routing and liquidity discovery. LiquidLink plans to use XRPFY for its own nodes to find cost-effective payment paths and exchange opportunities across networks.

LiquidLink’s Lightning Network node public address can be tracked on any lightning network explorer; we recommend the following: https://mempool.space/lightning/node/039d3233722961a471d29b6fedf46d9f71585e29e13fe71dccd72c9b3b0668e188

  • MIL-OSI USA: McCaul, McGovern Introduce Bipartisan Resolution Commemorating His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th Birthday as “A Day of Compassion”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Michael McCaul (10th District of Texas)

WASHINGTON  Today, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) — chairman emeritus of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs — introduced a resolution alongside Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) designating July 6th, 2025, as “A Day of Compassion” in honor of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday.

“Despite having faced persecution, oppression, and unspeakable violence at the hands of the CCP, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has maintained inner peace and continues to preach compassion — inspiring not only his own people, but the entire world,” said Rep. McCaul. “I was honored to meet him in Dharamsala last year to voice the U.S. government’s support for the people of Tibet, emphasize the friendship between our two peoples, and learn more of his courageous, peaceful, and sacrificial leadership. Ahead of His Holiness’s 90th birthday, I am proud to introduce this resolution calling for ‘A Day of Compassion’ and affirming Tibetans’ fundamental human rights as we look forward to the day the Dalai Lama and his people can return to their homeland in peace.”

“His Holiness the Dalai Lama is an inspiration to millions of people around the world, including to me,” said Rep. McGovern. “His teachings on religious tolerance, non-violent responses to conflict and violent extremism, and peace-building are both timeless and urgently needed in our present circumstances. • MIL-OSI New Zealand: The awkward places NZers admit to using their devices – and why scammers love it

    Source: BNZ Statements

From the bathroom to the boardroom, New Zealanders are responding to notifications and messages in some pretty awkward places – and it reveals just how distracted and hurried we’ve become, a new survey from BNZ shows.

The nationwide study found that most New Zealanders have responded to an email, text or notification while doing something else, with 35% admitting they’ve done so in the bathroom, 41% in the middle of a face-to-face conversation, and 28% while in a meeting or webinar.

“And when we’re rushed or distracted like this, we make mistakes,” says BNZ Head of Fraud Operations, Margaret Miller.

Nearly a quarter (24%) confess to clicking through to a “great deal” without checking if the link was legitimate, while 19% have hit a link in a text before reading it properly.

“Scammers prey on the fact that when we’re rushed, distracted, or juggling multiple things we’re more likely to click first and think later,” Miller says.

The study found that New Zealanders are generally aware of when they’re most vulnerable, with 78% recognising that being distracted, rushed, multitasking, stressed or on autopilot makes them more likely to be scammed or make a mistake with online banking.

Yet scammers are still succeeding. According to the survey, while 61% of Kiwis spotted a scam in the past year and avoided it, 12% weren’t so lucky.

Strategic design to slow scams down

While individual vigilance remains the best defence and the banking sector continues to invest tens of millions in security each year, BNZ is also exploring a different approach through strategic design features that work with how people actually behave.

“While we all expect seamless digital experiences, we’ve learned that introducing small elements of friction at critical moments helps with focus and ultimately, keeps customers and their money safer,” says BNZ Head of Design, Donal Devlin.

“In practice, this means things like swapping button locations, adding brief pause notifications, or showing “pause and think” alerts to help customers stay focused when making higher risk transactions or actions in their accounts.

“It’s about finding the right balance between convenience and security – adding just enough of a moment to think when the stakes are highest.”

BNZ is also strengthening security in other ways, including being one of only two major banks to offer app-based authentication rather than text messages, which can be intercepted by scammers.

The bank has also introduced online banking lock, which gives customers the ability to quickly disable all online banking activity and lock access to their online banking if they suspect a scammer has gained access to their accounts.

It’s all about working with human nature, not against it, Miller says.

“We know people are busy, we know they multi-task, and we know they sometimes rush.

“So, while customers should remain vigilant, we’re also designing smart security features that give you a moment to double-check when it matters most.”

Tips for improving your digital safety and security

    • Pause before clicking – especially if you’re doing something else at the same time
    • Never click on links or attachments sent by someone you don’t know or that seem out of character for someone you do know
    • Keep your computer and phone security software up to date
    • Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve been scammed

Red flags to watch for – BNZ will never:

    • Email or text you links to online banking and ask you to log in
    • Send you a text message with a link to a website, or link to call us
    • Ask you for your PIN number or password
    • Ask you to share the authentication codes sent to you by text or email, even with a BNZ staff member
    • Ask you to transfer money to help catch a scammer or a bank employee who is scamming customers
    • Send you a text message about account issues with a link to log in
    • Ask you to download software to access your Internet Banking remotely
    • Use international phone numbers to call or send you notifications

The BNZ Safe and Secure Survey was conducted by Insights HQ in May 2025, with sample sizes ranging from n=235 to n=478 depending on the question. Overall survey results were weighted to be nationally representative by age (15+ years), gender, and region based on Census 2020.

(All days are valid from 12 UTC – 12 UTC the following day)

Note: A severe weather area depicted in the Day 4-8 period indicates 15%, 30% or higher probability for severe thunderstorms within 25 miles of any point.

The cold front which may result in severe weather on Day 3/Tuesday
will move into the Atlantic and near the Gulf Coast across Florida.
A reinforcing mid-level trough will maintain northerly flow across
the eastern CONUS as an area of high pressure builds into the
region. A drier, more continental airmass across the eastern CONUS
will keep severe weather chances minimal.

Upper 60s to low 70s dewpoints will remain across the Plains,
beneath a strong upper-level ridge. By the time the ridge starts to
break down on Day 6/Friday some severe weather is possible as a
mid-level trough moves into the northern Plains. However, the ECMWF
shows less than 20 knots of flow across the Plains. Therefore, shear
will likely be limited. Thunderstorms will be likely along the cold
front as it traverses the central and eastern CONUS next weekend.
However, the lack of stronger mid-level flow casts doubt on storm
organization. Therefore, no severe weather probabilities have been
    added at this time.

  • MIL-OSI China: US Senate advances Trump’s major tax-cut, spending bill

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

The Republican-controlled U.S. Senate on Saturday narrowly advanced President Donald Trump’s major tax and spending bill, marking a key procedural step toward passing the legislation before his self-imposed July 4 recess.

The 940-page package, formally titled the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, was approved in a 51-49 procedural vote late Saturday night, with two Republicans joining all Democrats in opposition.

The vote allows formal debate to begin on the measure, which seeks to make permanent the 2017 tax cuts, increase military and border security spending, and reduce funding for key social welfare programs.

“Tonight we saw a GREAT VICTORY in the Senate with the ‘GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,’” Trump praised the victory in a post on TruthSocial.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York accused Republicans of rushing the process and insisted that the entire bill be read aloud on the Senate floor before debate could begin.

Once the bill has been read, lawmakers will begin up to 20 hours of debate on the legislation before a final vote on passing it.

The bill was narrowly approved by a vote of 215 to 214 in the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives on May 22. If the Senate passes the bill, it will then return to the House of Representatives for final passage before Trump can sign it into law.

A payday loan no credit checks is an unsecured form of a short-term financial alternative that has been designed primarily for individuals facing urgent financial needs with limited alternatives. It diverges from conventional lending norms in the sense that it grants individuals with limited credit histories and poor credit scores payday loans with little to no credit assessment since the approvals are made based on the borrower’s ability to repay the loan as opposed to their credit ratings.

Contrary to conventional loans, payday loans no credit checks are offered by online lenders that provide a convenient and accessible platform for those in need of immediate cash. The process of getting one is smooth, and it takes a short time to access the approved funds as the process is done online, from application to disbursement of funds.

    • Age and citizenship – You must be at least 18 years old and either a US citizen or a permanent resident to ensure that you meet the legal age and residency standards to access these loans.
    • Income verification – Having a verifiable source of income is a crucial aspect as lenders require evidence of a consistent income source to ensure you have the means to repay the loan. This income could come from employment, benefits, or another reliable source.
    • Debt-to-income ratio – Maintaining a favorable debt-to-income ratio is a significant criterion as lenders assess this ratio to evaluate your ability to manage additional debt responsibly. Thus a lower debt-to-income ratio is favorable.
    • Bank account – You must possess a bank account that serves multiple functions, such as receiving fund deposits and facilitating automatic deductions for loan repayments, as required by the lender.
    • Contact information – You must have a valid email address and/or phone number from which the lender will use as a means of communication with you throughout the application and repayment processes.

How Do Credit Scores Affect Payday Loans No Credit Check?

While some lenders may perform credit checks, they typically use soft checks that are designed to enhance the chances of approval for those with less-than-perfect credit. Your credit history may not directly impact your eligibility for a payday loan no credit check, but it does play a role in your overall credit score. Timely repayment of the loan usually has a positive influence on your credit score.

For individuals burdened by negative credit histories or those without any credit history to speak of, payday loans no credit checks offer a valuable avenue to initiate or enhance their creditworthiness. By managing and repaying payday loans no credit checks responsibly, you can embark on the journey to establish a positive credit history.

    Conclusion

In summary, payday loans with no credit checks present a unique financial option that can be a lifeline for those in immediate need of funds, especially when traditional lending avenues are inaccessible. Their appeal lies in their accessibility, speed, and flexibility. However, it’s vital to recognize that they come with elevated costs, and the potential for a debt cycle is a real concern. For this reason, you should approach these loans with a clear understanding of the terms, a well-thought-out repayment plan, and an awareness of the potential risks involved. While payday loans no credit checks serve as a valuable tool in times of crisis, responsible borrowing and careful consideration of alternatives should always be the guiding principles when considering payday loans with no credit checks. It is also worth looking at tribal loan lender loan options; you can read more about them in this article.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any alternatives to payday loans with no credit checks for people with bad credit?

Yes, there are alternatives to consider, such as credit union loans, personal installment loans, or exploring financial assistance programs. It’s advisable to explore these options and compare their terms before committing to a payday loan with no credit check.

What happens if I change my mind after accepting a payday loan offer?

If you change your mind after accepting a payday loan offer, you generally have a short window of time to cancel the loan without incurring any fees or interest charges. However, the specific cancellation policy may vary by lender, so it’s essential to check the terms and conditions.

Can I apply for multiple payday loans with no credit checks at the same time?

While it’s possible to have multiple payday loans simultaneously, it’s generally not advisable due to the increased risk of falling into a debt cycle. Lenders may have policies in place to prevent borrowers from taking out multiple loans concurrently.

What if I’m unable to repay my payday loan on the due date?

If you can’t repay your payday loan on the due date, contact your lender immediately. Many lenders offer options like loan extensions or rollovers, but these often come with additional fees. It’s essential to discuss your situation with your lender to explore the best solution.

Note: A severe weather area depicted in the Day 4-8 period indicates 15%, 30% or higher probability for severe thunderstorms within 25 miles of any point.

A mid-level trough will move from the Great Lakes to the Northeast
on Day 4/Tuesday. At the surface, a cold front will move east
through the period. Moderate instability is expected along this
front and some severe weather may be possible from the Mid-Atlantic
to the Northeast. Slight risk (15%) probabilities may eventually be
needed within this zone, but there is potential for
cloudcover/thunderstorm activity from Monday evening to impact
destabilization. Therefore, confidence is not high enough for
    probabilities at this time.

Beyond Day 4, a relative lull in severe weather potential is
expected. Multiple reinforcing mid-level troughs will amplify the
larger-scale trough across the eastern CONUS. As this occurs, the
surface cold front will move south, potentially to the Gulf Coast
and into the western Atlantic. This will eliminate the very moist
airmass which resulted in moderate to strong instability across much
of the eastern CONUS for the past few weeks.

The greater low-level moisture is expected to remain and perhaps
advect north across the central Plains beneath a large-scale ridge.
This could result in some thunderstorm activity, but shear is
expected to be very weak, and the building ridge aloft may suppress
    convection on D5/Wednesday to D6/Thursday.

By next weekend, this ridge is expected to flatten with some
stronger mid-level flow moving across the northern Plains. The exact
evolution of the upper-pattern remains uncertain and therefore,
confidence is low, but severe weather chances may increase across
the northern Plains by next weekend.

Source: United States Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF)

ATLANTA – Abdurrahim Jalal has been convicted of blowing up a bank automated teller machine and possessing illegal explosive devices.

“Criminals who use dangerous explosives to commit crimes will face federal prosecution to the fullest extent of the law,” said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. “We will not tolerate conduct that puts innocent lives at risk or threatens the safety and stability of our communities.”

“Jalal put his own greed ahead of the safety of our community. The FBI will use every resource available to find anyone who would go to the extreme use of a bomb to illegally obtain money,” said FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown.

“The use of explosives in criminal activities poses an immense threat to public safety, and we will continue to work diligently to ensure that those who engage in such acts are brought to justice,” said ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge Beau Kolodka.

According to U.S. Attorney Hertzberg, the charges, and other information presented in court: Abdurrahim Jalal was convicted of bank theft, use of an explosive to commit a felony, arson, and two counts of possession of an unregistered destructive device following a bench trial on June 23, 2025. The evidence at trial revealed that on March 29, 2023, Jalal used a pipe bomb to blow up an ATM in Decatur, Georgia. Jalal took approximately $88,000 from the vault of the machine after the explosion. Investigators identified Jalal and obtained a warrant to search his home, during which they recovered additional pipe bombs.

Sentencing for Abdurrahim Jalal, 54, of DeKalb County, Georgia, is scheduled for September 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. before U.S. District Judge Michael L. Brown.  Jalal faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and up to 60 years of imprisonment followed by up to three years of supervised release. In determining Jalal’s actual sentence, the court will consider the United States Sentencing Guidelines, which are not binding but provide appropriate sentencing ranges for most offenders.

This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, DeKalb County Police Department, and DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department.

    Source: US FBI

ST. LOUIS – A man from Jefferson County, Missouri on Tuesday admitted trying to meet a 16-year-old to engage in sexual activity.

Anthony Justin Snelson, 39, of Arnold, Missouri, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted receipt of child pornography. He admitted engaging in an inappropriate conversation via TikTok with a teen. After the victim’s mother discovered the conversation, she took it over and began impersonating the victim. She later had her daughter call Snelson, who requested a nude photo and asked if the victim wanted to meet and “mess around,” Snelson’s plea says. The mother called the St. Louis County Police Department on Aug. 12, 2024, after a meeting had been arranged, and officers arrested Snelson when he arrived. He admitted in an interview with police that the reason he met with the teen was “to maybe mess around,” his plea says.

Snelson is scheduled to be sentenced on September 30. The charge carries a mandatory minimum prison term of five years, and a maximum of 20 years.

The St. Louis County Police Department and the FBI investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Colleen Lang is prosecuting the case.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Landmark Legislation to Strengthen Cybersecurity

Source: US State of New York

overnor Kathy Hochul today signed into law S.7672A/A.6769A, a pivotal measure aimed at enhancing the cybersecurity and resilience of state and local government networks across New York. First announced in Governor Hochul’s 2025 State of the State, this legislation will improve the State’s ability to respond to threats, safeguard critical infrastructure and reduce statewide cybersecurity risks. Governor Hochul made the announcement today following a meeting with City, County, Town and Village officials from across the State to discuss current security efforts in response to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

“My top priority as Governor is the security and safety of all New Yorkers, and with this legislation we’re strengthening our ability to respond to and ultimately prevent cyber threats all across our state,” Governor Hochul said. “As global conflicts escalate and cyber threats evolve, so must our response, and we are taking a whole of government approach in doing so. Requiring timely incident reporting and providing annual cybersecurity training for government employees will build a stronger digital shield for every community across the State and ensure they get the support they need when it matters most.”

The legislation mandates that all municipal corporations and public authorities promptly report cybersecurity incidents and ransom payments to the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), fortifying the statewide defense against digital threats. Under the new law, municipalities and public authorities are required to report cybersecurity incidents within 72 hours to DHSES and provide notice of payment of a ransom within 24 hours. The legislation also mandates annual cybersecurity awareness training for government employees across New York and sets data protection standards for State-maintained information systems.

New York State Chief Cyber Officer Colin Ahern said, “The cyber threats that municipalities face have never been more numerous, more sophisticated, or more dangerous, and coordinated whole-of-government information sharing is more important than ever to tackle these threats. This legislation will enable New York State to build situational awareness of statewide cyber threat activity and create a comprehensive threat picture that can protect all New Yorkers. Ensuring that state and local government employees complete annual cybersecurity awareness training adds another line of cyber defense and empowers government employees statewide to recognize and respond to cyber threats.”

State and local governments are on the front lines of a growing wave of cyberattacks that threaten essential services and public data. As attackers become more sophisticated and aggressive, municipalities face mounting risks with limited support and rapidly evolving threats. Recent ransomware incidents across the country have underscored the urgent need for coordinated, statewide action to help local agencies respond swiftly and protect the communities they serve. The 72-hour reporting requirement will give New York State critical visibility into threats, allowing for faster response, better coordination and damage limitation.

State Senator Monica R. Martinez said, “Protecting the public is government’s most important responsibility, but attacks on critical infrastructure put essential services and the people who rely on them at risk. This bill gives municipalities the structure, support, and accountability they need to protect residents and taxpayers from prolonged disruption in the event of a cyberattack. I thank Governor Hochul and my colleagues in the Legislature for recognizing the cost of inaction and for advancing this important legislation.”

State Senator Kristen Gonzalez said, “In our increasingly digital world, our data is constantly at risk. As emerging technologies make it easier for hackers to access our data, readiness isn’t just an option for our government; it’s our imperative. I thank the sponsor for introducing this bill and the Governor for signing it into law. It is a smart measure that will improve municipal cybersecurity posture and threat intelligence sharing within the state. I look forward to more legislation on cybersecurity being considered so we can make New York as technologically safe as possible.”

Assemblymember Billy Jones said, “This piece of legislation is vital for our ever-changing technological state. The unique threats digital attackers pose to our municipalities requires a strong and direct response, and this bill will allow our local and state leaders to do just that. Cybersecurity is an increasingly important topic across all sectors of the state, and ensuring our government offices and agencies are able to respond to threats is critical.”

Assemblymember Steve Otis said, “Since the August 2023 release of Governor Hochul’s NYS Cybersecurity Strategy, New York has steadily increased cybersecurity assistance to local governments. This important legislation continues that commitment by requiring prompt reporting of cyberattacks and ransom payments and cybersecurity training of government employees. Full knowledge of cyberattacks statewide will allow state cyber agencies to better advise local governments and school districts about the evolving threat environment. This new law is another example of Governor Hochul and the Legislature working together to expand our resilience to these threats.”

New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Commissioner Jackie Bray said, “As Governor Hochul says, our number one job is to keep New Yorkers safe. That includes protecting local governments from cyberattacks. This bill will ensure that all local governments and public authorities report cyberattacks soon after they occur so that our cyber security team has the information we need to respond to the ever-changing threat landscape.”

New York State Chief Information Officer and Director of the Office of Information Technology Services Dru Rai said, “Training and awareness is a key component in enhancing New York’s statewide cybersecurity posture and creating an army of cyber warriors who can better shield their IT assets, safeguard sensitive data and protect all New Yorkers. Thanks to Governor Hochul’s strong leadership and historic cybersecurity investments, as well as our ongoing partnership with the Senate, Assembly and our local governments, New York State is better prepared than ever to take the fight to the enemy. Cyber threat actors will continue to change their tactics in an attempt to find even the slightest vulnerability, but as a State we will continue to adapt, evolve, educate and strengthen our overall defenses to aggressively and proactively meet this challenge.”

New York Association of Towns Executive Director Christopher A Koetzle said, “Municipalities face ever-increasing and sophisticated cyber threats. I applaud the governor and the Legislature for helping to better protect our local governments across the state and giving them more tools to prepare for and respond to these growing threats. NYAOT has long stood in partnership with NYMIR in its mission of delivering cyber security training to each of our member towns and this bill will ensure that more towns make training a priority in the coming years.”

New York State Association of Counties Executive Director Stephen J. Acquario said, “Almost everything that counties and local governments do today rely on some type of information technology system, and we know that these systems are under threat. This new law is designed to raise the baseline of understanding of cybersecurity for all local leaders and employees so we can all better defend the information systems and data we all rely on to operate government and serve residents. On behalf of the county governments of New York, we commend Governor Hochul for approving this legislation.”

New York State Conference of Mayors Executive Director Barbara Van Epps said, “NYCOM applauds Governor Hochul and the State Legislature for making cybersecurity a top priority for New York. The enactment of this legislation marks a critical step forward in strengthening our collective defense against digital threats to the State and its local governments. By requiring prompt incident reporting, ransomware disclosures and annual cybersecurity training, the Governor is sending a clear message: cybersecurity is not just an IT issue — it’s a core public safety priority that demands coordination, vigilance and shared responsibility.”

The enactment of S.7672A/A.6769A underscores New York State’s commitment to cybersecurity, setting a precedent for other states to follow in protecting both state and local critical infrastructure from cyber threats. Under Governor Hochul’s leadership, New York has led the nation in developing smart and effective cybersecurity policy — from nation-leading financial sector regulations to landmark legislation to protect New York’s energy grid from cyberattacks, and first-in-the-nation hospital cybersecurity regulations.

These and other initiatives build on Governor Hochul’s previous actions and investments to build a more resilient, safer and secure digital environment for all New Yorkers. Following escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, Governor Hochul immediately convened the State’s top security personnel from counterintelligence, State Police and Homeland Security. In order to protect New York’s municipalities and cyber infrastructure, Governor Hochul has invested millions of dollars to harden local assets and ensure the protection of critical data that’s used to deliver services to New Yorkers.

Over the last three years, Governor Hochul has also made foundational investments in New York’s cybersecurity by establishing the NYS Joint Security Operations Center (JSOC), operationalizing the statewide shared services program for counties and municipalities and expanding the State’s law enforcement cyber capabilities by growing the Computer Crimes Unit, Cyber Analysis Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Center at the New York State Police.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Supreme Court Upholds Constitutionality of Universal Service Fund: Congress must ensure its stability into the future

    Source: Communications Workers of America

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the Supreme Court’s opinion issued today in Consumers’ Research v. Federal Communications Commission considering the constitutionality of the Universal Service Fund, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) releases the following statement:

The Supreme Court upheld what most observers know to be true: the federal Universal Service Fund (USF) is fully constitutional. As the amicus brief signed by CWA explained, “Universal service principles have been a key element of American communications policy since the nation’s founding.”

While the legality of the Fund’s structure should never have been in doubt, the communications industry has changed since the USF was originally created in 1996. As technicians and customer service representatives in the telecommunication industry, CWA members see the positive impact of the USF every day. We also recognize that broadband internet and other emerging technologies now play a central role in our daily lives. It’s time for Congress to recognize this and take action to modernize the contribution mechanism supporting the fund to ensure that these essential services are available and affordable for all Americans.

We are gratified that Chair and Ranking Member of the Senate Telecommunications and Media Subcommittee, Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) and Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), along with House Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chair Richard Hudson (R-NC9) and Ranking Member Doris Matsui (D-CA7), have re-started the Universal Service Fund Working Group. The working group puts Congress in a good position to take the action needed.

This round of litigation and briefing before the Supreme Court emphasized that support for the Universal Service Fund and the programs it supports are strong and broadly held. Companies and organizations as diverse as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the National Foreign Trade Council, NCTA – The Internet & Television Association, the School Superintendents Association and the American Library Association, filed amicus briefs in support of the constitutionality of the fund, and illustrating the many devastating consequences that would arise if it failed.

CWA members stand ready to ensure that the USF is used to provide support to building and maintaining high-quality, fiber broadband infrastructure in rural and remote areas of the country and that low-income households can afford to purchase those services. Without such a network that reaches everyone and that everyone can afford, the well-being of our communities and our nation will be under threat.

Headline: Windows Resiliency Initiative: Making environments touched by Microsoft products more secure

    Resilience isn’t optional—it’s a strategic imperative.

In today’s threat landscape, organizations can’t afford to treat resilience as a reactive measure. It must be built into the foundation of how systems are designed, secured and managed. That’s why Microsoft launched the Windows Resiliency Initiative (WRI)—a focused effort to embed resilience and security into the Windows platform itself.

Announced at Ignite, WRI is an initiative designed to make all digital environments touched by Microsoft products more secure and resilient. WRI prioritizes preventing, managing and recovering from security and reliability incidents, mitigating issues swiftly and providing seamless recovery across the Windows platform.

WRI outlines Microsoft’s commitment to helping organizations prevent, withstand and recover from disruptions. This includes three core areas: ecosystem collaboration, actionable guidance and product innovation.

Ecosystem collaboration and learning with partners to evolve the Windows ecosystem

In September 2024, we hosted the Windows Endpoint Security Ecosystem Summit (WESES), bringing together a diverse group of endpoint security vendors and global government officials to discuss strategies for improving resiliency and protecting our mutual customers.

We recognized our shared responsibility to enhance resilience by openly sharing information about how our products function, handle updates and manage disruptions. Since the summit, we’ve continued this close collaboration with Microsoft Virus Initiative (MVI) partners to gather feedback and iterate on Windows platform capabilities to achieve the goal of enhanced reliability without sacrificing security.

As a part of this evolution, our MVI 3.0 program requires partners to commit to taking specific actions to improve the security and reliability of Windows. Requirements include testing incident response processes and following safe deployment practices (SDP) for updates to Windows endpoints. Security product updates must be gradual, leverage deployment rings and leverage monitoring to minimize negative impacts. These practices complement our platform investments, enabling us to deliver greater stability, faster recovery and reduced operational risk for enterprise customers who rely on a secure and reliable Windows environment.

Next month, we will deliver a private preview of the Windows endpoint security platform to a set of MVI partners. The new Windows capabilities will allow them to start building their solutions to run outside the Windows kernel. This means security products like anti-virus and endpoint protection solutions can run in user mode just as apps do. This change will help security developers provide a high level of reliability and easier recovery resulting in less impact on Windows devices in the event of unexpected issues. We will continue to collaborate deeply with our MVI partners throughout the private preview.

Here are some insights from MVI partners that provide further perspective:

Actionable guidance to build organizational resilience: Introducing the Windows Resiliency Initiative e-book

Today, we are happy to introduce the Windows Resiliency Initiative e-book, one result of our commitment to provide guidance for others building organizational resiliency. The e-book is a resource that helps organizations understand how Windows provides foundational practices, strategies and tools to build resilience and embrace a resilience-focused strategy across their IT platform.

Product innovation to support resiliency on the Windows platform

As an outcome of WRI, organizations can look forward to several new Windows product innovations to support them in their journeys to build infrastructures that can rapidly adapt as needed while maintaining a foundation of resilience. Consider adding these capabilities to your digital repertoire.

Now it’s easier than ever to navigate unexpected restarts and recover faster

A key trait of a resilient organization is the ability to maintain productivity and minimize disruptions. But when unexpected restarts occur, they can cause delays and impact business continuity. This is why we are streamlining the unexpected restart experience. We are also adding quick machine recovery, a recovery mechanism for PCs that cannot restart successfully. This change is part of a larger continued effort to reduce disruption in the event of an unexpected restart.

The Windows 11 24H2 release included improvements to crash dump collection which reduced downtime during an unexpected restart to about two seconds for most users. We’re introducing a simplified user interface (UI) that pairs with the shortened experience. The updated UI improves readability and aligns better with Windows 11 design principles, while preserving the technical information on the screen for when it is needed.

The new Windows 11 unexpected restart screen

The simplified UI for unexpected restarts will be available starting later this summer on all Windows 11, version 24H2 devices.

In the case of consecutive unexpected restarts, devices can get stuck in the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE), impacting productivity and often requiring IT teams to spend significant time troubleshooting and restoring affected devices. This is where quick machine recovery (QMR) can help. When a widespread outage affects devices from starting properly, Microsoft can broadly deploy targeted remediations to affected devices via Windows RE—automating fixes with QMR and quickly getting users to a productive state without requiring complex manual intervention from IT.

We are excited to announce QMR will be generally available later this summer together with the renewed unexpected restart functionality. QMR supports all editions of Windows 11, version 24H2 devices. It is enabled by default for Windows 11 Home devices; IT admins will be in full control and can enable it on devices running Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise. Later this year, Microsoft will release additional capabilities for IT teams to customize QMR.

Microsoft Connected Cache saves internet bandwidth

With today’s interconnected work ecosystems, reliable internet bandwidth has become essential for organizations seeking resiliency through a cloud-native approach to device management. Case in point: When all devices in a system simultaneously attempt to download updates, an organization’s network bandwidth, especially in branch offices, can be negatively impacted.

Microsoft Connected Cache can help organizations improve their bandwidth when performing upgrades to Windows 11, Windows Autopilot device provisioning, Microsoft Intune application installations and Windows Autopatch monthly updates. Connected Cache will be generally available in the coming weeks.

Internet bandwidth is saved when Connected Cache nodes transparently and dynamically cache the Microsoft-published content that downstream Windows devices need to download. Using this solution, content requests from Delivery Optimization can be served by the locally deployed Connected Cache node instead of the cloud. This results in fast, bandwidth-efficient delivery across connected devices.

Introducing Universal Print anywhere: Print securely, flexibly and confidentially

Organizational resilience is a holistic concept that extends to printer systems, including third-party drivers that, while often essential to operations, can be an exposure point. Universal Print anywhere, also known as “pull print,” enables users to securely release their printing request from anywhere in the organization to any authorized printer.

Building on the existing secure release with QR code functionality (enabled with the Microsoft 365 mobile app), users can print using the Windows Protected Print infrastructure, without having to choose a printer in advance. This sequence helps ensure that confidential documents aren’t left on the printer for unauthorized viewing and minimizes toner and paper waste from uncollected print jobs.

This Universal Print update provides additional IT control with a feature that allows administrators to configure print options for a printer share. This means end users will only be able to view options selected by the administrator.

Get updates without interruption, thanks to hotpatching

A hotpatch update installs important Windows security updates once a month without needing to restart—quickly securing without disrupting workflow. It’s simple to use and included with Windows Autopatch.

If your devices meet the prerequisites, you can opt devices in (or out) for automated deployment through Windows Autopatch. To learn more, visit the hotpatch blog. Devices that don’t qualify will still receive regular security updates to help ensure protection.

Windows 365 Reserve: Maintain business continuity with instant Cloud PC access

Device disruptions, due to loss, theft, delays or malfunctions, can be inconvenient and disruptive to productivity. That’s why Microsoft just announced Windows 365 Reserve, a new offer to help organizations mitigate the risk of downtime. Windows 365 Reserve provides easy, secure access to a temporary, pre-configured Cloud PC, which can be accessed across devices when a user’s primary device is not available.

With Windows 365 Reserve, organizations can build a more resilient and secure IT infrastructure, especially in the case of a security incident, lost or stolen devices, or an inability to access your physical device, for whatever reason. Windows 365 Reserve will soon be available for preview. Complete this form or contact your Microsoft account team to express interest in participating in the preview of Windows 365 Reserve.
