Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

A ceremony unveiling sculptures of “Flying Tigers” was held on Saturday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

The ceremony, with the theme of “Flying Tigers, United States and China Fighting Together,” attracted about 100 people, including “Flying Tigers” veterans, officials and representatives of Chinese communities in California.

The sculptures, featuring full-length statues of General Claire Lee Chennault and a Chinese soldier, were installed near Los Angeles International Airport.

The Flying Tigers, officially known as the American Volunteer Group of the Chinese Air Force, was formed in 1941 by Chennault to help China fight invading Japanese forces.

“It is so important that we remember the war that they fought so that we could live in peace,” said Nell Calloway, granddaughter of Gen. Chennault.

“China and the United States are the two most important countries in our world. With their friendship and lasting peace, the whole world will benefit from that,” she added.

Mel McMullen, a “Flying Tigers” veteran who attended the ceremony, said, “it’s great that we’re keeping the story and the history of General Chennault and our participation in the Second World War alive.”

“I think it’s great that we keep this memory alive because it’s something that we should all be proud of,” he said.

  • MIL-OSI China: US Senate advances Trump’s major tax-cut, spending bill

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

The Republican-controlled U.S. Senate on Saturday narrowly advanced President Donald Trump’s major tax and spending bill, marking a key procedural step toward passing the legislation before his self-imposed July 4 recess.

The 940-page package, formally titled the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, was approved in a 51-49 procedural vote late Saturday night, with two Republicans joining all Democrats in opposition.

The vote allows formal debate to begin on the measure, which seeks to make permanent the 2017 tax cuts, increase military and border security spending, and reduce funding for key social welfare programs.

“Tonight we saw a GREAT VICTORY in the Senate with the ‘GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,’” Trump praised the victory in a post on TruthSocial.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York accused Republicans of rushing the process and insisted that the entire bill be read aloud on the Senate floor before debate could begin.

Once the bill has been read, lawmakers will begin up to 20 hours of debate on the legislation before a final vote on passing it.

The bill was narrowly approved by a vote of 215 to 214 in the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives on May 22. If the Senate passes the bill, it will then return to the House of Representatives for final passage before Trump can sign it into law.

  • From WHO to ILO, PM Modi highlights India’s achievements in health, social security

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that India is making steady progress across various sectors, particularly in healthcare and social protection. He cited major milestones such as the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring the country Trachoma-free and the significant increase in the number of people covered under social security schemes.

Addressing the 123rd episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann ki Baat’, PM Modi said that India is advancing in every sphere – from healthcare to social security – with a strong focus on inclusion and achieving saturation.

He began by highlighting the nation’s success in eliminating Trachoma, a bacterial eye infection that can lead to blindness, calling it a major public health achievement.

“A lot of you must have heard about Trachoma. There was a time when it was common in many parts of India. If neglected, this disease could lead to blindness. But we resolved to eliminate it, and I am delighted to share with you that the World Health Organization has declared India Trachoma-free,” PM Modi said.

He credited the success to the relentless efforts of health workers and initiatives like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the Jal Jeevan Mission.

“This success belongs to our health workers who fought this disease tirelessly. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan played a major role in its elimination. The Jal Jeevan Mission also contributed significantly. As clean water is reaching households through taps, the risk of such diseases has greatly reduced,” he noted.

The Prime Minister added that the WHO appreciated India not only for eliminating the disease but also for addressing its root causes.

Turning to social security, PM Modi cited a recent report by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

“According to a recent ILO report, more than 64 per cent of Indians are now covered under some kind of social protection. Social security coverage in India is among the largest in the world,” he said.

“Today, around 95 crore people are benefiting from various social security schemes, whereas in 2015, the number was less than 25 crore. This reflects a significant shift towards social equity,” he said.

The Prime Minister said such achievements are a testament to India’s commitment to inclusive growth.

“From health to social security, the country is moving forward with the goal of saturation. This is also a reflection of our commitment to social justice. These successes inspire confidence that the future will be brighter and India will become even stronger at every step,” he said.

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: £11.7m fund to boost business investment and jobs at Port Talbot

    Press release

£11.7m fund to boost business investment and jobs at Port Talbot

    • English
    • Cymraeg

New Economic Growth and Investment Fund announced by the Tata Steel / Port Talbot Transition Board

Over £11.7 million to boost business investment and jobs in Port Talbot from newly announced Economic Growth and Investment Fund

    • Backed by £11.78 million – including £6.78 million from the UK Government and £5 million from Tata Steel UK.
    • Part of £80 million announced by the Transition Board just 10 months

A new £11.78 million fund will soon be available to businesses in Port Talbot and the surrounding area to help them grow, create high-quality jobs, and attract long-term investment.

The Economic Growth and Investment Fund is designed to support companies that offer skilled, well-paid employment opportunities that match the talents of the local workforce.

The fund includes £6.78 million from the UK Government and £5 million from Tata Steel UK and will complement the work of the Welsh Government and Neath Port Talbot Council to strengthen the local economy.

To ensure the fund delivers the greatest possible impact, a period of engagement with businesses will begin ahead of the fund opening for bids in the autumn. This will shape the fund’s design – ensuring it meets the needs of businesses and unlocks the conditions for long-term economic growth, job creation, and private sector investment. Once engagement has been completed, the fund is then subject to business case approval by UK Government.

This funding announcement is the latest from the Tata Steel / Port Talbot Transition Board, chaired by Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens and including representatives from the UK and Welsh Governments, local authorities, unions and business.

Since its first release of funding in August 2024, it has now announced £80 million to fund skills training for workers and regeneration projects as Tata Steel carries out its transition to electric arc steelmaking.

Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens said:

This new fund is a powerful example of what can be achieved when government and business work together to deliver for communities. Backed by over £11.7 million, it will help local businesses grow, create high-quality jobs and attract more new investment to Port Talbot.

This announcement marks the full allocation of the UK Government’s £80 million contribution to the Transition Board – all delivered in less than a year. It’s a clear demonstration of this government’s determination to act swiftly and decisively in support of Port Talbot and its steelmaking community, ensuring that funding reaches the people and businesses who need it most.

We said we would back the steelworkers of Port Talbot, their families and businesses dependent on Tata Steel and we have delivered on that promise.

Tata Steel UK’s Head of Public Relations Tim Rutter said:

We are delighted to support this new Economic Growth and Investment Fund from our £20 million commitment to the Transition Board. Local businesses play a vital role in the growth and economic prosperity of the region, and we are confident this fund will draw in further investment, providing jobs and opportunities for people across the area.

We continue to be committed to supporting those individuals impacted by our business transformation, and this fund will complement the existing support services that we have put in place, in addition to the most generous voluntary redundancy package in the company’s history.

We look forward to working with our partners on the Transition Board, trades unions, local businesses and the community to ensure this fund has a positive impact.

Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, Rebecca Evans said:

We welcome the new Economic Growth and Investment Fund announced today.

Delivery is the Welsh Government’s watch word. Working in partnership with the UK Government, local authorities, trade unions and businesses, we are supporting economic growth today and actively shaping its future direction for tomorrow.

We are also ensuring that cross-government investments such as Freeports and Investment Zones align with Welsh priorities and deliver real and lasting benefits and local job opportunities in communities such as Port Talbot.

Neath Port Talbot Council Leader, Cllr Steve Hunt said:

This announcement marks another major milestone in our response to a period of significant change for the local economy of the Port Talbot area.

A key aim for us as a council is to create more secure, green, and well-paid jobs and to develop the skills required for these roles. As such we are working hard to meet the current challenges and to move beyond these to future economic growth.

“Working alongside our Transition Board partners we will soon be engaging the local business community to ensure we make the most of the opportunity that this funding presents

The UK Government has committed £2.5 billion of investment to rebuild the UK’s steel industry for decades to come as it decarbonises.

This is in addition to the £500 million allocated to Tata Steel in Port Talbot for an electric arc furnace, which recently received planning approval with construction due to begin in the coming months.

The new fund will build on this momentum—helping local people by supporting the creation of high-quality jobs, encouraging business growth, and attracting new investment to secure a strong economic future for Port Talbot.

The Intangible Cultural Heritage Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department is holding the “ICH Flavours” Carnival at the Oil Street Art Space (Oi!) in North Point today (June 28) and tomorrow (June 29). Under the theme of “Food Culture”, the carnival, with free booth activities, workshops and demonstrations, allows members of the public to experience the essence of making techniques for food related to intangible cultural heritage (ICH) through taste and visuals.

Many ICH items in Hong Kong are related to food. The carnival features various workshops and demonstrations of making techniques for public participation in producing and understanding ICH-related food. Examples include dragon beard’s candy, a traditional sweet food; Sau Fan, a traditional snack and a food offering in villages in the New Territories; glutinous rice dumpling with lye, a festive food of the Dragon Boat Festival; and shrimp paste blocks and shrimp paste, local specialties of Cheung Chau, Tai O and Lamma Island.

Apart from local traditional food that Hong Kong people are familiar with, there are also demonstrations and experiential activities of the Jiangxi Gannan Hakka pounded tea making technique, a representative item of the national ICH, for public to join.

The Hakka folk song and Nanyin performances held at the Oi! Lawn are attracting many people. The “Mobile ICH” is also stationed at Oi!. With an exhibition and interactive devices, it incorporates learning into fun games to allow the public to explore the rich content of festive-related Hong Kong ICH items.

The carnival is one of the programmes of the Hong Kong ICH Month 2025. Tomorrow, there will be demonstrations and workshops on traditional food-making techniques related to ICH, including sweet potato cake, Ching Ming Tsai (Paederia scandens sticky rice dumpling), blown sugar, and basin meal. Traditional food and interesting activities are not to be missed. • MIL-OSI NGOs: Battle of Ideas: Political Lawfare and the Destitution of Pedro Castillo

Source: Council on Hemispheric Affairs –

    COHA

On June 29, Radio Negro Primero, a community-based station in Venezuela, and affiliates, will examine the jailing and prosecution of Peru’s constitutional president, Pedro Castillo. The program, Battle of Ideas, hosted by William Camacaro (Senior Analyst for COHA) and Mary Dugarte (Venezuelan Journalist), will feature distinguished panelists: Roger Waters (renowned musician and human rights defender), Lilia Paredes de Castillo (wife of President Castillo), and Walter Ayala (constitutional lawyer and former Minister of Defense for President Pedro Castillo).

Pedro Castillo’s 2021 presidential victory marked a historic shift: a rural schoolteacher and union leader, propelled by Peru’s rural poor, Indigenous communities, and working-class voters, defeated Keiko Fujimori by just over 44,000 votes. Although he won by a narrow margin, his win nevertheless signaled a rupture with Lima’s political elite and a call for reform.

From the outset, his administration was besieged. A right-wing Congress, dominated by Fujimoristas, obstructed his agenda and launched three impeachment attempts in 18 months. Cabinet instability—dozens of ministerial changes in his first year—reflected both internal tensions and external obstructionism.

On December 7, 2022, facing imminent removal, Castillo announced the dissolution of Congress and called for new elections. Lacking institutional support, he was swiftly arrested and charged with rebellion, conspiracy, and abuse of authority. The stakes are high. Prosecutors are seeking a 34-year sentence. After his ouster, Dina Boluarte took office with right-wing backing, unleashing state violence against protesters—predominantly Indigenous and rural—that human rights groups have condemned as serious violations.

Critics argue Castillo’s case exemplifies the weaponization of legal tools to neutralize progressive leadership. For example, the vague constitutional clause of ‘moral incapacity’ was invoked during the impeachment process in lieu of a legitimate legal rationale. Moreover, his legal defenders maintain that his trial, now underway in a highly politicized climate, is marred by procedural irregularities and prolonged detention.

Castillo’s removal reveals the fragility of Peru’s democratic institutions when faced with demands for structural change. This episode also reflects a broader pattern in Latin America: the criminalization of leftist leaders who challenge entrenched power. Castillo’s plight is not just legal—it’s part of an ongoing struggle against oligarchic resistance to a politics of liberation.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Reed Votes Against Motion to Proceed to ‘Big, Ugly Betrayal’ Bill

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for Rhode Island Jack Reed

WASHINGTON, DC – Senate Republican leaders spent all Saturday struggling to get their own members lined up behind a controversial and unpopular budget reconciliation bill (the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”) that would gut Medicaid to provide a bigger tax cut for the wealthy.  After making a backroom deal late on Saturday night, they finally got 51 of 53 Republicans to agree to advance the measure.

After the Senate voted 51-49 on the motion to proceed, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:

“Republicans aren’t under any real deadline or time constraint here, they’re just rushing this under cover of darkness because the more people know what is in this bill, the more they hate it.

“This shameful budget is a prescription to weaken the U.S. economy and our health care system while widening the gap between the haves and have-nots.

“It will take nearly one trillion dollars from Medicaid and take away health insurance from millions of Americans.  It will contribute to higher health care prices, bigger bureaucratic hurdles, and undermines the Affordable Care Act.  It is fiscally irresponsible and explodes the national debt.  It’s got tons of tax carveouts for special interests like Big Oil and the NRA gun lobby at the expense of everyday Americans.  Meanwhile, it cancels billions of dollars in shovel-ready renewable energy projects, halting billions of dollars in economic activity and sending utility bills soaring.

“Budgets are about priorities.  If Republicans actually wanted to help the middle-class, they would have targeted real help to the middle-class.  Instead, they deliberately chose to skew benefits to millionaires, billionaires, and corporations.

“We need responsible, forward-looking investments in America’s future, not handouts to old-money interests and outdated industries.

“I oppose this catastrophic bill and will work hard to block it and replace it with a more balanced, measured, and fiscally responsible budget that targets real help to working people, not the ultra-wealthy.”

BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged residents of a village in Xizang Autonomous Region to uphold ethnic solidarity and create a happier and better life.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, put forward his expectations in a reply letter to residents of a village in Nyingchi, where he paid a visit in July 2021.

“Learning that the village has undergone new changes in recent years and villagers’ incomes have increased, I feel happy for you,” Xi wrote in the letter.

Xi also voiced his hope that the villagers will, under the guidance of the Party’s policies to develop border areas and improve people’s lives, do an even better job in protecting the natural beauty of the plateau region, developing the village’s tourist brand, and contributing to building a prosperous and stable border area.

The village is known for its peach blossoms. In recent years, it has made new achievements in developing rural tourism, strengthening the collective economy, and promoting ethnic solidarity.

  • MIL-OSI China: Mainland expert debunks Lai’s ‘our elements’ argument for Taiwan’s so-called statehood

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

A Chinese mainland scholar has criticized Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te for his recent claim that “Taiwan is a country,” calling it a misguided distortion of the “four elements” theory of statehood.

Lai’s argument violated legal principles, history, and the facts surrounding cross-Strait relations, Wang Yingjin, director of the cross-Strait relations research center of the Renmin University of China, wrote in a signed article.

According to the article, a closer examination of the four essential elements of statehood — population, territory, government and sovereignty — clearly shows that Taiwan has never been a country, and nor will it be a country.

Wang noted that the 23 million people in Taiwan are the people of a local administrative region, and they are part of the entire Chinese population. He explained that “the people” in the concept of “sovereignty belongs to the people” refers to all the people of a country. Thus, the “people” in this context are the Chinese people as a whole, not just the 23 million people in Taiwan.

He emphasized that while Taiwan’s authorities currently control and administer the areas of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Mazu in a temporary manner, they hold no territorial sovereignty over those areas. Instead, their territorial sovereignty should be held jointly by all Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Wang clarified that as a local administrative unit of China, the so-called government to which Lai referred is merely a local authority within China and does not possess the status of a subject under international law in international affairs.

Moreover, Wang said that Taiwan’s sovereignty belongs to China. Although the two sides of the Taiwan Strait have not yet been fully reunified, China’s sovereignty has not been divided, and the fact that both the mainland and Taiwan belong to one China remains unchanged.

“Taiwan is a part of China. This is a fact that brooks no challenge,” Wang added.

  • Emergency imposers murdered Constitution, intended to enslave judiciary: PM Modi in ‘Mann ki Baat’

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a scathing attack on those who imposed the Emergency in 1975, saying it was not just a “murder of the Constitution” but also an attempt to turn the judiciary into a “slave.”

In his monthly radio programme ‘Mann ki Baat’, PM Modi urged the nation to remember the resilience of those who resisted the Emergency and to draw inspiration from their courage to safeguard the Constitution.

“Those who imposed Emergency not only murdered our Constitution but also had the intention to keep the judiciary as their slave,” PM Modi said, referring to the 21 months of Emergency declared by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975.

He reminded citizens that the Emergency era was marked by widespread abuse of power and suppression of civil liberties.

Recounting the observance of ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ – commemorated every year on June 25 to mark the imposition of the Emergency – PM Modi said, “During that time, inhumane atrocities were inflicted on our people.”

Highlighting the power of public resistance, the Prime Minister said, “With the power of public participation, big crises can be confronted,” and played archival audio of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai to illustrate the extent of the Emergency’s impact.

In the clip, Desai is heard saying, “After all, the oppression that happened for two years, the oppression had started 5-7 years ago. But it has reached its peak in the last 2 years, when emergency was imposed on people and people were treated inhumanly. People’s right to freedom was snatched away, newspapers were left without freedom. Courts were made completely powerless. And the way more than one lakh people were put in jail and then arbitrary rule continued, it is difficult to find its traces in the history of the world.”

PM Modi said Desai’s words reflected the severity of the crisis, describing the period as one where “people were tormented on a large scale.”

He noted that figures like George Fernandes were “tied in chains,” while many others faced brutal torture.

“Under the MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act), anyone could be arrested without warning. Students were harassed, and freedom of expression was silenced,” PM Modi added.

He lauded the strength of the Indian people for resisting authoritarian rule. “The people of India did not bow, they did not break, and they refused to compromise with democracy. In the end, the people’s will prevailed – the Emergency was lifted, and those who imposed it were defeated,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi also played audio speech of Babu Jagjivan Ram, in which the leader described the 1977 elections not merely an electoral event but “a great campaign of the people of India to turn the tide of dictatorship and to strengthen the foundation of democracy in India.”

In another audio clip, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was heard declaring, “A peaceful revolution has taken place. The wave of people’s power has thrown the killers of democracy into the dustbin of history.”

Reflecting on the 50th anniversary of the Emergency’s imposition, PM Modi said, “We countrymen have observed the ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’. We should always remember all those people who fought the Emergency with fortitude. This inspires us to remain constantly vigilant to keep our Constitution strong and enduring.”

    Source: Government of India (4)

Israel’s attack on the Evin Prison in Iran’s capital Tehran on June 23 killed 71 people, Iranian judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said on Sunday.

At the end of an air war with Iran, Israel struck Tehran’s most notorious jail for political prisoners, in a demonstration that it was expanding its targets beyond military and nuclear sites to aim at symbols of Iran’s ruling system.

“In the attack on Evin prison, 71 people were martyred including administrative staff, youth doing their military service, detainees, family members of detainees who were visiting them and neighbours who lived in the prison’s vicinity,” Jahangir said in remarks carried on the judiciary’s news outlet Mizan.

Jahangir had previously said that part of Evin prison’s administrative building had been damaged in the attack and people were killed and injured. The judiciary added that remaining detainees had been transferred to other prisons in Tehran province.

Evin prison holds a number of foreign nationals, including two French citizens detained for three years.

“The strike targeting Evin prison in Tehran, put our citizens Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris in danger. It is unacceptable,” France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot had said on social media X after the attack.

  • 1st T20I: Mandhana, Shree Charani help India beat England by 97 runs

    Source: Government of India (4)

Stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana smoked her first century in the shortest format and left-arm spinner N Shree Charani grabbed a four-fer on debut as India defeated England by 97 runs, their heaviest defeat, in the first T20I to start the series with a massive win in Nottingham on Saturday.

Mandhana became the first Indian woman batter to score a hundred in all three formats of the game as she hammered 112, the highest individual score in Women’s T20I for India, surpassing regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s 103 as India posted a massive 210/5 in 20 overs.

In reply, England were bundled out for 113 in 14.5 overs with Shree Charani claiming 4-12 in 3.5 overs. Spinner Deepti Sharma (2-32) and Radha Yadav (2-15) turned out to be able foil for her as India started the series with one of their best wins against England.

Asked to bat first by the England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt, India made a superb start with Smriti and her opening partner Shafali Verma raising 77 runs for the first wicket partnership. Shafali was sent back by Em Arlott for 20 runs, but Mandhana went from strength to strength to score a century and helped the team to a big total.

With regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur rested as a precautionary measure after suffering a head injury, vice-captain and left-handed opener Mandhana is leading the side in her absence.

Her 112 off 62 deliveries, in an innings laced with 15 boundaries and three maximums, powered India to a massive total of 210/5 in 20 overs, their highest total against England in T20 Internationals. Mandhana’s maiden T20 century on Saturday was the 14th time she has crossed the triple-digit mark in her career, with 11 tons in ODIs and two coming in the longest format. She is also the second Indian woman to score a T20 ton after regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

Mandhana got good support from Harleen Deol, who missed her half-century by just seven runs. Mandhana and Harleen shared a 94-run partnership for the second wicket that set India up for a big total.

Mandhana completed her fifty off 27 balls (4×8, 6×2) and reached three figures off 57 balls, hammering 14 boundaries and three sixes in the process. Though Jemimah Rodriques failed to contribute anything to the score, Smriti Mandhana ensured India put up a big total.

Chasing the massive target, England women landed into trouble in the first over itself when Amanjot Kaur got Sophia Dunkley edging behind Richa Ghosh for seven. Deepti Sharma struck her first ball of the match when she had Danni Wyatt-Hodge caught by Harleen at short third as she attempted to work it leg-side. England slumped to 9/2.

Though Nat Sciver-Brunt and Tammy Beaumont tried to revive the innings with a 49-run partnership, the latter’s dismissal by Deepti for 10, followed by the early departure of Amy Jones (1) and Alice Capsey (5), Em Arlott (12) and Sophie Ecclestone (1) meant England slumped to 102/7.

Their skipper, Nat Sciver-Brunt, continued to wage a lone battle, reaching her fifty off 31 balls before she was out for 66 off 42 balls (4×10) as England folded up soon for 113, which incidentally was just one run more than what Smriti Mandhana scored.

Shree Charani got the key wickets of Capsey, Ecclestone, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Lauren Bell to destroy England’s middle and lower-order batting.

With this win, India have taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20 series, followed by three ODIs.

    Brief scores:

India Women 210/5 in 20 overs (Smriti Mandhana 112, Harleen Deol 43; Lauren Bell 3-27) beat England Women 113 all out in 14.5 overs (Nat Sciver-Brunt 66; Shree Charani 4-12, Deepti Sharma 2-32, Radha Yadav 2-15) by 97 runs.

  • Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi extends best wishes to devotees going on religious yatras, praises spirit of service

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended heartfelt wishes to devotees embarking on various religious yatras across the country through his monthly radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

He also lauded those who, with a selfless spirit of service, contribute to the smooth and safe conduct of these spiritual journeys.

“When one embarks on a pilgrimage, the first feeling that arises is ‘Let’s go, we have been called!’ This emotion is the soul of our pilgrimage. These pilgrimages are a means of discipline of the body, purification of the heart, of mutual love and brotherhood and a means to connect with God,” the Prime Minister said.

He added that beyond personal spiritual fulfilment, pilgrimages also represent collective service.

“There is another significant aspect to these journeys. These pilgrimages are also a great ritual of opportunities for service. Whenever a pilgrimage takes place, more people engage in serving the pilgrims than those who go on the pilgrimage. Everywhere, free community kitchens and food stalls are organised, people arrange for drinking water alongside the roads with a spirit of service, medical camps and facilities are set up, and many people even arrange lodging and rest houses for pilgrims,” he said.

PM Modi expressed joy over the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra after a long gap.

“Kailash Mansarovar means the abode of Lord Shiva. In every tradition – be it Hindu, Buddhist, or Jain – Kailash is considered to be the centre of faith and devotion,” he noted.

Highlighting the spiritual vibrancy across India, he added, “The holy Amarnath Yatra is going to start from July 3, and the holy month of Sawan is also just a few days away. Just a few days ago, we have also seen the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath ji.”

The Jagannath Rath Yatra, one of the most sacred festivals of the country, draws lakhs of devotees from across the country, who converge at the temple town to take part in it every year.

He praised the scale and unity reflected in these events. “Whether it is Odisha, Gujarat, or any other corner of the country, millions of devotees participate in this pilgrimage. From North to South and from East to West, these pilgrimages reflect the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’,” he said.

“When we undertake these pilgrimages with full devotion and discipline, then we also receive their rewards,” the Prime Minister said, concluding with a message of goodwill.

“I extend my best wishes to all the fortunate devotees going on the various Yatras. I also commend those who are engaged in making these Yatras successful and safe with a spirit of service,” he said.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: China tackles cancer in the elderly with early detection and TCM

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: People’s Republic of China in Russian – People’s Republic of China in Russian –

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) — With its rapidly aging population, China is facing a new pressing health problem: cancer among the elderly.

According to the latest data, people over 60 now account for 60.7 percent of all new cancer cases in the country, making cancer care for the elderly one of the most urgent priorities in China’s efforts to ensure health for all.

A week-long national campaign has been launched in China to raise awareness of cancer among older people. Medical experts are calling for earlier detection, evidence-based treatment and more public education to combat myths that often cause older people to delay or avoid treatment.

China’s demographic shift is accelerating: People aged 60 and over now make up more than 20 percent of the population. That figure is expected to reach 30 percent by 2035, with the elderly population surpassing 400 million.

A report from the Chinese Cancer Association shows that lung and gastrointestinal cancers are most common among older adults, accounting for about 65 percent of malignancies in this age group. Other commonly diagnosed cancers include liver, lymphoma, prostate, and various blood cancers.

“Cancer is not uncommon among the elderly, and it is closely related to the accumulation of genetic mutations over time,” says Xue Dong, a specialist in geriatric oncology at Peking University Cancer Hospital. Cell aging, decreased immunity, and long-term exposure to carcinogens greatly increase vulnerability, Xue Dong explains.

Early diagnosis remains the most powerful tool in the fight against cancer, experts say.

In response, China’s National Health Commission has called for expanded public health services, including nationwide health checks for adults aged 65 and above, with more frequent screenings for high-risk groups.

Local initiatives are also underway. In Yancheng, east China’s Jiangsu Province, residents aged 60 to 69 are now being tested for 12 common tumor markers for free. In Daqing, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, authorities are offering citizens aged 45 to 74 free screening for five major cancers – lung, breast, liver, upper gastrointestinal tract, and colon.

In addition to cancer screenings, doctors also promote healthy living. Zhang Tong, an oncology specialist at Xiyuan Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medicine, advises older adults to eat a balanced diet and engage in traditional Chinese fitness exercises such as tai chi and baduanjin, which are known to boost energy and immune function.

Doctors also emphasize that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) can play a supporting role in combination with Western treatment methods.

During chemotherapy, treatments such as acupuncture and spot treatments can help reduce side effects such as nausea, loss of appetite, and constipation. Herbal baths and steam therapy can help with radiation-related symptoms such as skin damage and mouth sores.

Li Yuanqing, Xue Dong’s colleague at the same hospital, noted that clinical experience shows that these approaches can ease patient discomfort during chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Experts also warn of deeply ingrained misconceptions. Many older patients believe in miracle cures or folk remedies, while others fear that traditional treatments such as surgery or chemotherapy will only accelerate their deterioration.

“Treating older cancer patients requires a balance,” Xue Dong said. “We can’t just apply treatments designed for younger people, nor should we discard treatments because of age. The key is individualized treatment based on both the patient’s medical needs and physical and emotional readiness.”

“Thanks to the science and compassion we use, more and more elderly cancer patients will be able to live a dignified life,” says Xue Dong. -0-

  • MIL-OSI Russia: World’s first pure ammonia demonstration vessel makes maiden voyage in China

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

HEFEI, June 29 (Xinhua) — The world’s first demonstration ship running on clean ammonia fuel, the Anhui, has successfully completed its maiden voyage in Hefei, east China’s Anhui Province, marking a major step forward in the development of green shipping.

Ammonia, a key raw material for the chemical industry, has a high energy density. Being a carbon-free substance, it produces only water and nitrogen when completely burned. This makes it a very promising fuel for decarbonizing shipping.

In recent years, several shipping companies in Japan, Norway and other countries have been actively investing in developing ammonia-fueled ships. A 2021 report by the International Energy Agency estimated that up to 45 percent of global marine fuel demand would be met by ammonia by 2050 to achieve a “net zero scenario.” However, ammonia fuel also faces challenges such as difficulty in ignition and combustion instability.

The ammonia-powered vessel Anhui was jointly developed by the Institute of Energy of Hefei National Comprehensive Science Center and its subsidiary Shenzhen Haixu New Energy Co., Ltd. It is equipped with a 200 kW high-speed gas combustion generator, two 100 kW electric motors and a twin-screw propulsion system. Its full deadweight is 50 tons and its rated speed is 10 knots.

Wu Dianwu of the aforementioned institute said that the research team has overcome several key technological difficulties. These include plasma ignition of pure ammonia fuel, stable combustion, efficient catalytic cracking of ammonia gas to produce hydrogen, and efficient combustion and combustion control of hydrogen-ammonia fuel mixture in internal combustion engines. In addition, the team has also developed a pure ammonia fuel burner and various catalytic cracking devices for ammonia gas.

During the maiden voyage, it was possible to achieve stable and complete combustion of pure ammonia fuel, almost zero carbon dioxide emissions and effective control of nitrogen oxides. This confirms the potential for widespread use of hydrogen-ammonia fuel in marine and land transport, industrial boilers and fuel cells, Wu Dianwu noted.

Wang Junli, secretary general of the China Society of Shipbuilding, said the vessel’s successful voyage marked a milestone in building a clean, low-carbon energy system for waterborne transport. With pure ammonia engines reaching megawatt-class power, there will be broad prospects for their deployment. This is of particular significance in the context of China’s efforts to achieve “dual carbon goals” of peaking carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. -0-

Tashkent, June 29 (Xinhua) — Educational and humanitarian exchanges remain the warmest and most stable component of international relations, especially between China and Central Asian countries, said Bakhodir Hasanov, a professor at Tashkent State University of Economics and Doctor of Economics, in a recent exclusive interview with Xinhua.

According to him, for the countries of the region, including Uzbekistan, cooperation with China in these areas serves not only as a cultural dialogue, but also as a strategic tool for strengthening human capital and preparing young people for the challenges of the future. “We attach great importance to a solid foundation of partnership with China in the field of education and culture,” the expert noted.

    B. Khasanov emphasized that in recent years, Uzbekistan and China have achieved significant results in teaching languages, training specialists and developing vocational education. He particularly noted the importance of such projects as the Confucius Institutes and Lu Ban Workshops, which have become a kind of bridge between peoples. “On the one hand, they help Uzbek youth study the Chinese language and culture, and on the other, they contribute to the modernization of the educational system and the improvement of personnel qualifications,” he added.

Against the backdrop of the active promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative, humanitarian cooperation between China and the Central Asian countries continues to develop. B. Khasanov noted that China’s experience in the field of applied education and training focused on the needs of the labor market is of particular interest. According to him, Uzbekistan is striving to introduce elements in its education reform that meet the challenges of the modern economy.

“We are convinced that education and cultural exchange will play an increasingly important role in the development of Uzbek-Chinese relations,” the expert said, emphasizing that this is not only a path to mutual understanding and friendship between peoples, but also an important resource for sustainable development and stability in the region. –0–

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the nationwide and global celebrations of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, calling them a grand and meaningful expression of peace, stability and balance.

Addressing the 123rd episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi said Yoga has become an integral part of people’s lives, both in India and across the world.

“All of you right now must be feeling the energy of Yoga and the memories of the International Day of Yoga. This year, too, on June 21, millions across the country and the world participated in Yoga Day. You must remember that it all began 10 years ago, and every year this tradition is becoming grander than before. This indicates that more and more people are incorporating Yoga into their daily lives,” he said.

Highlighting some of the most captivating moments from this year’s celebrations, the Prime Minister referred to the massive gathering of three lakh people performing Yoga on the beaches of Visakhapatnam.

“Another incredible sight from Visakhapatnam, over 2,000 tribal students performed 108 Surya Namaskars for 108 minutes. Imagine how much discipline and dedication they must have had,” he remarked.

He also praised the unique observances on Indian Naval ships, the participation of over 3,000 specially-abled individuals in Telangana, and the Yoga sessions conducted on the banks of the Yamuna River, which also helped promote the clean Yamuna initiative.

“In Jammu and Kashmir, people performed Yoga on the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge. Yoga was also performed by ITBP jawans at the snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas, showcasing a powerful blend of courage and spiritual discipline. The people of Gujarat also created a new history. People of Vadnagar set a new record when 2,121 people performed Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) together,” he added.

The Prime Minister applauded the global observance of the Yoga Day, noting that cities such as New York, London, Tokyo, and Paris hosted large-scale events.

“Every picture of Yoga Day from around the world conveyed a special message of peace, stability and balance,” he said.

PM Modi also emphasised the significance of this year’s theme – Yoga For One Earth, One Health – calling it a guiding principle that echoes the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, or “the world is one family”.

Expressing confidence in the impact of this year’s celebrations, the Prime Minister said, “The grandeur of this year’s IDY will encourage more and more people to adopt Yoga into their daily lives.”

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Backing first responders and prison officers

    Source: New Zealand Government

The Government is introducing new offences to ensure those who assault on-duty first responders or prison officers spend longer in prison, Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith says.

“Where others may flee, first responders and prison officers run towards danger to help those who need urgent assistance.

“Assaulting them puts multiple lives at risk, so there must be greater consequences for these heinous acts of violence. Our hardworking police officers, firefighters, paramedics and prison officers deserve better.”

    Under these proposed offences:

Assaulting a first responder or prison officer will have a maximum sentence of three years imprisonment. This expands an existing provision on assaulting Police to cover all first responders and prison officers.
Assaulting a first responder or prison officer with intent to injure will have a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment. This is a two-year increase in penalty from the standard offence.
Injuring a first responder or prison officer with intent to injure will have a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment and will be added to Three Strikes to ensure mandatory minimum sentences in line with that regime. This is also a two-year increase in penalty from the standard offence.

“This builds on our sentencing reforms which came into affect today, and is another way we will denounce violence in New Zealand,” Mr Goldsmith says.

“It fulfils a commitment in the National/New Zealand First coalition agreement, to introduce the Protection for First Responders and Prison Officers legislation to create a specific offence for assaults on first responders which includes minimum mandatory prison sentences.

“We promised to restore real consequences for crime. That’s exactly what we’re delivering. It’s all part of our plan to restore law and order, which we know is working.”

  • MIL-OSI: Online Payday Loans with Same Day Approval No Credit Check – Radcred Launches Instant Loan Platform for US Borrowers

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

Glendale, California, June 29, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Radcred, a leading innovator in financial technology, has launched a new platform that delivers online payday loans no credit check with instant approval. Built for borrowers who need same-day cash particularly those with poor credit, the service compresses the application into an encrypted, two-minute process and transfers funds within the same day.

Recent industry reviews that benchmarked lenders for state compliance, APR transparency, and fee caps ranked Radcred’s no credit check solution among the most consumer-friendly online payday loan options. Analysts praised the platform’s fully licensed-lender network and clear, upfront cost disclosures, which help users cover urgent expenses such as medical bills, car repairs, or unexpected household costs.

    What Are Online Payday Loans?

Online payday loans are short-term, small-dollar advances typically $100 to $500 repaid on the borrower’s next payday. Because applications are completed entirely online and decisions are automated, funds can arrive within hours, making them a practical stop-gap for emergency costs when savings or conventional credit are unavailable.

How Radcred’s Online Payday Loans Work

Radcred’s online payday loan application process is designed to be fast and hassle-free. This process makes it easy for borrowers to access instant payday loans without the traditional waiting time and paperwork.

    • Step 1: Complete the Online Form – Borrowers provide personal and financial information through an easy-to-complete digital form.
    • Step 2: Instant Loan Approval – Radcred’s automated system processes applications and provides approval within minutes.
    • Step 3: No Credit Checks – The platform utilizes soft credit checks, making it accessible for borrowers with poor or no credit history.
    • Step 4: Funds Transfer – Approved loans are transferred directly to borrowers’ bank accounts, often within hours.
    • Step 5: Repayment Terms – Clear instructions are provided for loan repayment, typically due within a short window.

Who Can Apply For Online Payday Loans through Radcred

Many borrowers turn to online payday loans to bridge sudden cash gaps when savings or traditional credit aren’t available. Typical applicants include:

    Individuals With Bad Credit
Consumers whose FICO scores fall below prime levels often struggle to qualify for bank credit cards or personal loans. Because payday lenders rely mainly on proof of income rather than full credit underwriting people with poor credit histories can still access quick funds without a hard inquiry.

    Gig-Economy and Hourly Workers
Ride-share drivers, delivery couriers, and part-time employees may experience irregular pay cycles. When tips or shifts fluctuate, an online payday loan no credit check can provide predictable cash to cover rent or utility bills until the next deposit hits.

    Households Facing Emergency Expenses
Unexpected medical bills, urgent car repairs, or last-minute travel can’t always wait for a traditional loan to process. Payday loans deliver same-day funding, allowing families to resolve crises rapidly.

    New Credit Builders
Young adults or recent immigrants with thin credit files sometimes use a small payday advance to establish payment history though they must repay on time to avoid high costs.

Pros and Cons of Online Payday Loans

    Pros

    • Fast Funding: Many online lenders offer same day payday loan or next-business-day deposits, giving borrowers immediate cash for emergencies.
    • No Hard Credit Check: Lenders typically use soft inquiries, so applicants with bad credit can still qualify without damaging their FICO scores.
    • 24/7 Application: The entire process is digital; you can apply, sign, and receive funds from any device at any hour.
    • Minimal Documentation: Unlike traditional personal loans, online payday loans require only basic ID, income proof, and a checking account with no collateral or lengthy forms.

    Cons

    • High APRs: Annual percentage rates on online payday loans can exceed 200 %–400 %, making them one of the costliest short-term credit options.
    • Short Repayment Window: Balances are usually due on the next payday (14–31 days), which can strain tight budgets.
    • Debt-Cycle Risk: Rolling over or re-borrowing to cover an unpaid balance may trap borrowers in escalating fees and interest.
    • Limited Availability: Payday lending is restricted or banned in several U.S. states, and lenders must comply with varying local rate caps.

    • Encrypted Two-Minute Application – Mobile-friendly, 24/7 access for urgent fast cash requests.
    • Same Day Funding – Most applicants receive money within hours, turning an instant approval into real-time relief.

    Rates, Fees & State-by-State Compliance

The company employs bank-grade encryption and follows industry PCI-DSS standards to protect personal data.

FAQ – Online Payday Loans & No-Credit-Check Funding

Q1: How fast will I get my money?
Most approved borrowers receive their payday-loan proceeds in the same business day, often within a few hours of e-signing the offer. Exact timing depends on the lender’s release window and your bank’s ACH cutoff; submissions made late in the afternoon or on weekends typically settle the next banking morning.

Q2: Will applying hurt my credit score?
Submitting an application through Radcred triggers only a soft credit inquiry, which never appears on consumer credit files or lowers FICO points. However, if a borrower later misses payments or defaults, some partnered lenders may report the delinquency, which could negatively affect credit history.

Q3: What is the maximum first-time loan amount?
Initial loan limits are governed by state law and lender policy; in many jurisdictions the cap ranges from $255 to $500. During Radcred’s application flow, the platform instantly displays the exact ceiling for your ZIP code, ensuring you never request more than legal or responsible borrowing guidelines permit.

Q4: Are online payday loans legal in every state?
Payday lending is restricted or prohibited in 15 states and D.C. Radcred automatically blocks applications where loans are not permitted.

    Disclaimer

Radcred’s payday loans are for short-term emergency needs. Borrowers should ensure they understand the terms before applying for a loan. Online payday loans may not be suitable for all individuals.
