    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced that it has allocated $2.2 million for operations and maintenance of the Pentwater Harbor in its Fiscal Year 2025 Work Plan. Congressman John Moolenaar has strongly advocated for the project.

    “The Army Corps of Engineers FY25 Work Plan is wonderful news for our state, especially the communities like Pentwater on the shores of Lake Michigan. The Pentwater Harbor is a vital asset to the community, providing reliable access to Lake Michigan for thousands of residents and visitors. This crucial funding will help ensure the Pentwater channel is properly maintained to allow for continued access to the Pentwater Harbor. I will continue my work to advocate for communities across Michigan’s Second Congressional District to receive vital funding,” said Congressman Moolenaar.

    Currently, the Pentwater channel is at dangerously low water levels, risking damage to vessels attempting to navigating it which limits current access to the Pentwater Harbor. The dredging project would prevent a closure of the channel.

    This morning, Congressman John Moolenaar voted in favor of H.R. 1, the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act. The legislation delivers on the mandate given to President Trump and the Republican Party by the American people last November. Included in the bill are provisions to avoid a 25% tax increase on Michigan families, empower U.S. Border Patrol and ICE to secure the southern border, and ensure tax dollars are spent wisely by cutting wasteful spending, while protecting programs like Medicaid for vulnerable populations who rely on it.

    Congressman Moolenaar’s NO GOTION Policy was also included in the legislation passed today, which prohibits  companies affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party from qualifying for green energy production tax credits.

    “The One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act is a major win for families in Michigan’s Second Congressional District. This bill delivers on our promises to the American people to prevent a tax hike that would cost them thousands, and puts an end to the crisis at the southern border. It also addresses wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars, by establishing commonsense policies to protect programs like Medicaid for the Michigan residents who rely on it,” said Moolenaar. “I am also grateful my NO GOTION policy was included in this critical legislation. The tax dollars of hard-working Michigan families should not fund companies like Gotion, which are beholden to the Chinese Communist Party. I will continue my work to support Michiganders and get our nation back on the right track.”

    Moolenaar’s NO GOTION policy would prohibit foreign entities of concern from claiming green energy production tax credits implemented by the Biden administration in the “Inflation Reduction Act.” Gotion is a “wholly owned and controlled” subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech, a Chinese-based battery company. In an amended Foreign Agents Registration Act filing, Gotion admitted it is subsidized by the Chinese government.

    The budget reconciliation bill protects Medicaid for the people who rely on it. Currently, 4.8 million able-bodied Americans are covered by Medicaid – who are choosing not to work, as well as 1.4 million illegal immigrants receiving this taxpayer funded program. H.R. 1 addresses this issue, removing Medicaid coverage from people who are in our country illegally and requiring able-bodied individuals to return to work so Medicaid can continue to serve the vulnerable populations it was intended for. 

    H.R. 1 extends the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanently, avoiding a 25% tax hike on Michigan families, saving an average of over $1,300 every year. It also provides additional tax relief for middle-class families, ending federal income tax on tipped wages, overtime pay, and interest on loans for American-made cars. 

    Under the previous administration, more than 10 million people came into our country illegally, averaging nearly 160,000 border patrol encounters per month. Under the Trump administration, border patrol is reporting over a 90% drop, with just 8,383 illegal crossings last month. H.R, 1 builds on this success by providing funding to US. Border Patrol for hiring, technology to detect fentanyl, and the completion of the border wall.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Four Missing Rochester Children Safely Recovered in California After Multi-Agency Effort

    Concord, NH –  On Thursday morning, four Rochester children were reunited with their legal guardian after the United States Marshals Service (USMS), in coordination with the Rochester Police Department and several California law enforcement partners, safely recovered them on Wednesday, bringing a months-long investigation to a hopeful resolution.

    On February 4, the Rochester Family Court awarded legal custody of the four children to their maternal aunt, Shayntel Cormier. The children’s biological mother, Kristyanna Hall (31), was ordered to relinquish custody on February 10 by facilitating a transfer after school. Hall failed to follow the court’s directive and instead is believed to have fled the state with all four children.

    The Rochester Police Department initiated a criminal investigation after receiving credible information that Hall and the children may be in Murrieta, California, and on May 13 they solicited the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service District of New Hampshire (USMS D/NH) to locate the children and apprehend Hall. After corroborating Hall’s location, the USMS D/NH alerted the U.S. Marshals Service Central District of California (USMS C/CA), providing investigative leads and intelligence.

    The USMS C/CA—along with investigators from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office, and the Murrieta Police Department—successfully located and recovered the children at a motel in Ontario, California, on Wednesday. That same evening, the children were flown from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Logan International Airport in Boston, where they were reunited with their legal guardian, Ms. Cormier, this morning.  

    “This case underscores the critical importance of interagency collaboration in protecting vulnerable children,” said a spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service. “We are grateful for the swift actions of our law enforcement partners in California and commend the Rochester Police Department for their persistence and dedication to this case.”

    “We value the partnerships this department has with our regional and federal agencies,” stated Rochester Police Chief Gary Boudreau.  “We are pleased to see the results of these partnerships positively influencing the Rochester community.”

    Kristyanna Hall remains a fugitive, and the investigation into her whereabouts is ongoing. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ms. Hall is urged to contact local law enforcement or the U.S. Marshals Service.

    The USMS New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force was formed in the fall of 2002 and is headquartered in the USMS office in Concord. The task force coordinates federal, state, county, and local resources to develop leads, gather intelligence, track and apprehend targeted fugitives. The Task Force receives vital support from Strafford, Merrimack and Rockingham Counties, as well as the cities of Manchester, Nashua and Concord.

  • MIL-OSI Security: ACLU Attempt to Block Criminal Illegal Alien Removals Fails Spectacularly

    The ACLU’s dangerous campaign to keep violent criminals in the United States is falling apart.

    WASHINGTON – Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the American Civil Liberties Union’s (ACLU) latest attempt to wage lawfare against the Department was dropped. This lawsuit tried to prevent DHS from removing dangerous criminal illegal aliens from the country. 

    “We are glad to see the ACLU’s meritless, frivolous, and frankly dangerous lawsuit fall apart,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “That they claim to be a civil rights organization while advocating on behalf of foreign criminal gang members is laughable. They clearly could care less about the Americans that these illegal alien criminals victimize.”

    The lawsuit was filed on March 1, 2025, by the ACLU on behalf of 10 illegal aliens who were being transferred to a detention facility at Guantanamo Bay in preparation for their removal. Most of these criminal illegal aliens were removed from the country, while the remaining volunteered to drop the suit. 

    Fortunately, these criminals will no longer to be able to victimize American citizens. The Department will continue to use all available resources to remove the dangerous criminal illegal aliens who were let into our country by the previous administration.

    BACKGROUND

    • Communist China has significantly strengthened its research and development efforts and now leads the world in 57 of 64 critical technologies.
      • This is an increase from 52 technologies in 2021 and a drastic leap from the mid-2000s, when China was leading in just three. 
    • The U.S. historically has been the world’s dominant research power, leading in research for 60 out of 64 technologies from 2003-2007. That number has since dropped to seven, with notable holdouts in advanced information and communication technologies, semiconductor design, and certain quantum capabilities.
    • Chinese President Xi Jinping, through a series of government proclamations, has accelerated fundamental scientific research so it can become self-reliant in critical technologies.
    • In 2022, Chinese institutions applied for 29,853 AI-related patents—almost 80% more than U.S. filings.
      • In 2024, China was listed as a high risk to monopolize 24 critical and emerging technology areas.

    LEADERSHIP IN CET ACT

    • The Leadership in CET Act would:
      • Require the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO to establish and carry out a pilot program to expedite the examination of 15,000 patent applications pertaining to certain capabilities in artificial intelligence, semiconductor design, and quantum information science;
      • Prevent foreign entities of concern from participating in the program;
      • Provide the USPTO a one-time reauthorization authority if deemed necessary; and
      • Require the USPTO Director to submit a report to Congress assessing the impact and effectiveness of the pilot program based on all available data following the program’s termination.

    Following the storms, Senator Marshall led a letter from Republican members of the Kansas federal delegation asking President Trump to grant the Sunflower State’s Major Disaster Declaration request.

    Background:

    From March 14 – 19, 2025, Kansas was impacted by two back-to-back, strong, mid-latitude cyclone storm systems that moved through the state. The systems brought strong winds, low humidity, blowing dust, and blizzard conditions. According to the National Weather Service, the near-record low pressure in one of the systems measured close to the pressure found in a category 1 hurricane.
    On May 21, 2025, President Trump granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Kansas.
    Due to President Trump’s leadership, local governments and public utility providers will now be eligible to submit storm-related expenses to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for reimbursement.

    Washington – U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas) and John Hickenlooper (D-Colorado) introduced the Investing in All of America Act of 2025, bipartisan legislation designed to expand access to capital for small businesses in rural and low-income communities, as well as those in the manufacturing and critical technology sectors.
    The bill focuses on enhancing the role of Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs), privately managed firms licensed by the Small Business Administration (SBA), that raise private capital and leverage it with SBA-backed funds to invest in American small businesses. Currently, SBICs are subject to a leverage cap, which limits the amount of SBA-backed capital they can access based on how much private capital the firm has.
    The Investing in All of America Act would exempt investments in rural or low-income areas, as well as those in the manufacturing and critical technology sectors, from the leverage cap. In turn, this move would enable more capital to flow to areas with limited access and support the growth of manufacturing and critical technology industries vital to U.S. competitiveness.
    “Access to capital is essential for small businesses to grow and thrive, but far too often, rural and low-income communities across Kansas are left behind,” said Senator Marshall. “By excluding investments in these communities from the leverage that SBICs can access, we’re encouraging targeted investment where it’s needed most, all without costing taxpayers a dime.”
    “Small businesses are the engine of our economy,” said Senator Hickenlooper. “But they often struggle to get the capital they need to create jobs. Our bipartisan bill will help small businesses in rural and low-income communities flourish.”
    The legislation is supported by the Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA).

    SBIC-backed businesses have helped create over 3 million new jobs over the last two decades.
    In 2024, SBICs provided more than $8 billion in investment to small businesses nationwide.

  • MIL-OSI USA: SBA Relief Available to Oklahoma Small Businesses, Private Nonprofits and Residents Affected by Spring Wildfires

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In response to a Presidential disaster declaration issued May 21, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)announced the availability of low interest federal disaster loans to Oklahoma small businesses, private nonprofit (PNP) organizations and residents affected by wildfires occurring March 14-21.

    The disaster declaration covers the Oklahoma counties of Cleveland, Creek, Lincoln, Logan, Oklahoma, Pawnee and Payne.

    Businesses and nonprofits are eligible to apply for business physical disaster loans and may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster-damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets.

    Homeowners and renters are eligible to apply for home and personal property loans and may borrow up to $100,000 to replace or repair personal property, such as clothing, furniture, cars, and appliances. Homeowners may apply for up to $500,000 to replace or repair their primary residence.

    Applicants may be eligible for a loan increase of up to 20% of their physical damages, as verified by the SBA, for mitigation purposes. Eligible mitigation improvements include insulating pipes, walls and attics, weather stripping doors and windows, and installing storm windows to help protect property and occupants from future disasters.

    SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program is available to eligible small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, nurseries and PNPs impacted by financial losses directly related to this disaster. The SBA is unable to provide disaster loans to agricultural producers, farmers, or ranchers, except for aquaculture enterprises.

    EIDLs are for working capital needs caused by the disaster and are available even if the business or PNP did not suffer any physical damage. They may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills not paid due to the disaster.

    “One distinct advantage of SBA’s disaster loan program is the opportunity to fund upgrades reducing the risk of future storm damage,” said Chris Stallings, associate administrator of the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the SBA. “I encourage businesses and homeowners to work with contractors and mitigation professionals to improve their storm readiness while taking advantage of SBA’s mitigation loans.”

    Interest rates can be as low as 4% for small businesses, 3.62% for PNPs and 2.75% for homeowners and renters with terms up to 30 years. Interest does not begin to accrue, and payments are not due until 12 months from the date of the first loan disbursement. The SBA sets loan amounts and terms based on each applicant’s financial condition.

    Beginning Tuesday, May 27, SBA customer service representatives will be on hand at the Disaster Loan Outreach Centers to answer questions and assist with the disaster loan application process. No appointment is necessary, walk-ins are welcome. Those who prefer to schedule an in-person appointment in advance can do so at appointment.sba.gov.

    overnor Kathy Hochul has directed State Police to increase patrols at Synagogues and other Jewish institutions following the horrific murder of two Israeli Embassy employees leaving a Jewish event outside of the Capitol Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. While there are no known threats to New Yorkers, State Police has increased patrol visibility and are conducting regular checks of vulnerable sites, such as Jewish religious institutions and schools. New Yorkers can contact the State’s Hate and Bias Prevention Unit at 1-844-662-4283 or visit here to report any issues of harassment or violence.

    “Antisemitism is a threat to all of us, and this act of terrorism is a painful reminder that we must continue to fight it wherever it rears its ugly head,” Governor Hochul said. “Public safety is my top priority and I will continue fighting hate to ensure all New Yorkers can feel safe in their communities.”

    The New York State Intelligence Center remains in close contact with our federal, state and local partners, and will continue to monitor for any threats.

    Governor Hochul continues to combat the rise in hate crimes and secured $35 million in the FY26 Enacted Budget for Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes (SCAHC) program. These grants provide funding to boost safety and security for certain organizations at risk of hate crimes or attacks because of their ideology, beliefs or mission.

    Under Governor Kathy Hochul’s leadership, the New York State Division of Human Rights established the Hate and Bias Prevention Unit (HBPU) in December 2022 to help communities combat prejudice and discrimination. The HBPU Response Team offers support to communities impacted by bias or hate and connects impacted individuals with referrals to relevant stakeholders including State Police when incidents rise to the level of a crime. The Response Team helps to create community healing and support, through conflict resolution meetings, restorative justice practices, public education and assisting those impacted by hate or bias in filing complaints and/or accessing resources with other relevant State agencies.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Two People Charged in Robbery and Attempted Robbery of Postal Carriers

    DENVER – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado announces that Brisa Sierra-Silva, 25, and Christopher Johnson, 35, have been indicted in connection with the March 4, 2024, attempted robbery of a postal carrier and the subsequent robbery of a different postal carrier on the same day. Sierra-Silva is charged with one count each of robbery and attempted robbery.  Johnson is charged with one count of attempted robbery.

    Sierra-Silva was arrested and made her initial appearance in federal court on April 25, 2025.  Johnson was arrested and made his initial appearance on May 21, 2025.

    The charges in the indictment are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

    The investigation is being conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Al Buchman.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Man Charged in Connection With CARES Act Loan Fraud

    DENVER – The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado announces that Joseph Ronald Trenkle, 54, formerly of Cherry Hills Village, Colorado and currently of Dorado, Puerto Rico, has been charged in a criminal information with one count each of wire fraud and money laundering.

    According to the information, between April 30, 2020, and February 25, 2022, Trenkle applied for and received $1,850,000 in COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) from the Small Business Administration (SBA) and $2,999,995 in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funds from an SBA-approved lender.  The information alleges that after first obtaining an EIDL loan in March 2020, Trenkle made two requests to increase the amount of his EIDL and made false representations as part of each of request.  The information further alleges that Trenkle submitted two fraudulent PPP loan applications, and also submitted fraudulent applications for PPP loan forgiveness for each PPP loan.

    The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was enacted in March 2020 and was designed to provide emergency financial assistance to Americans dealing with the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The CARES Act created the PPP, a program administered by the SBA that provided loans to small businesses to retain workers, maintain payroll, and certain other expenses consistent with PPP rules.  Additionally, the CARES Act authorized the SBA to provide EIDLs to eligible small businesses experiencing substantial financial disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The defendant made his initial appearance on May 22, 2025, in Denver in front of Magistrate Judge Cyrus Y. Chung.

    The charges contained in the information are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

    This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Office of Inspector General, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, and Small Business Administration Office of Inspector General.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Craig Fansler.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Jayapal Introduces Resolution Supporting May as Sex Ed for All Month

    WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) led lawmakers today in introducing a measure that would designate May as Sex Ed for All Month. The Resolution calls for bolstering an effective initiative that provides young people with comprehensive, accurate, and inclusive sexual health information, as well as access to sexual and reproductive health care services, empowering them to make healthy decisions for themselves and promoting healthy lifelong attitudes toward sex, health, and reproductive rights.

    “In a time when the Trump administration is threatening our reproductive rights and bodily autonomy, this Resolution expresses support for protecting young people’s access to comprehensive, culturally responsive, and equitable sex education,” said Congresswoman Jayapal. “I’m proud that Washington state is a leader in providing accurate and inclusive sexual health education to all students, and this Resolution supports ensuring that young people across the country have access to the same resources. Sexual and reproductive health is an issue of social justice, and the May as Sex Ed for All Month Resolution sets forth a vision for a future in which young people have the information and care they need to make healthy decisions for themselves while we decrease the rate of sexually transmitted infections.”

    Sex education that includes information beyond abstinence has been found to delay sexual activity, increase contraceptive use, and decrease physical aggression between intimate partners. Young people who receive sex education are 50 percent less likely to experience an unintended pregnancy and 31 percent less likely to contract a sexually transmitted infection. 

    The Resolution calls on public officials at all levels of government to advocate for sex education legislation and recommends the implementation of sex education in schools. Specifically, the resolution prioritizes sex education programs that are comprehensive and evidence-based, medically accurate, age-appropriate, equitable, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed. The resolution discourages programs that withhold health-promoting information about sexuality-related topics, promote gender or racial stereotypes, or are unresponsive to gender or racial inequities, fail to address the needs of sexually active young people, and fail to be inclusive of individuals with varying gender identities, gender expressions, and sexual orientations.

    “In January, I proposed a bold plan to reform our public education system, focused on improving quality and opportunities for our kids, stabilizing our funding system, and providing taxpayers with much needed relief. 

    “I have been clear: we cannot adjourn this legislative session without a bill that sets us on the course to accomplish these goals, and I’ve appreciated the constructive conversations we’ve had with both chambers to date.

    “While the Senate moving this bill forward today is an important procedural step, I still cannot accept either the House or Senate versions. I do however remain optimistic about finding a path forward with the committee of conference. 

    “As I’ve said since the beginning of this process, I will only accept a final product that costs less than it does today, sets us on a clear path to achieve scale, reduces administrative overhead, and eliminates inefficiencies that prevent money from flowing towards more opportunities for students.

    ACEs, or Adverse Childhood Experiences, are events in a child’s life which have a heavy impact on their future wellbeing, success in life and risk of violence. This legislation would allow for the creation of ACE Response Teams (ACERTs) which would provide services and care to children who have experienced trauma.     
     

    The bipartisan, bicameral legislation authorizes $10 million a year for four years for the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to establish a national ACERT program, modeled on the pilots here in New Hampshire.

    (Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, and Susan Collins (R-ME), Chair of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, wrote to U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon yesterday urging the Department of Education to immediately release TRIO Upward Bound grants—which fund programs preparing high school students of disadvantaged backgrounds for attending college—to current grant recipients. The Senators’ request comes as Upward Bound programs have yet to receive the funding they’ve been promised for the coming program year. 

    The Senators wrote, in part: “Given that current recipients of Upward Bound grants were already successfully awarded their five-year grants from the Department of Education in 2022, Upward Bound programs should have the assurance that they will receive this funding for the fourth year of their grants. This delay in grant distribution, as well as a lack of information or guidance from the agency, is causing extreme uncertainty for Upward Bound programs across the country.” 

    They continued: “For nearly 60 years, Upward Bound programs have given generations of students the support they need to help succeed in higher education and beyond. […] The current delay in funding distribution is creating an unnecessary and existential crisis for these critical programs and the students they serve.”

    KATHMANDU, Nepal — That 7.8 magnitude earthquake, on April 25, 2015, was recorded as the most devastating in Nepal’s history. Killing almost 9,000 people, injuring tens of thousands, and destroying hundreds of thousands of buildings. The earthquake spanned 120 kilometers long and 80 kilometers wide, leaving much of the country in ruins.

    Shortly thereafter, the U.S. responded to Nepal’s request for assistance. Joint Task Force 505 was formed, employing the skillsets of 900 service members from the U.S. Armed Forces.

  • MIL-OSI Security: District of Arizona Charges 314 Individuals for Immigration-Related Criminal Conduct this Week

    PHOENIX, Ariz. – During the week of enforcement operations from May 17, 2025, through May 23, 2025, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona brought immigration-related criminal charges against 314 individuals. Specifically, the United States filed 117 cases in which aliens illegally re-entered the United States, and the United States also charged 176 aliens for illegally entering the United States.  In its ongoing effort to deter unlawful immigration, the United States filed 20 cases against 21 individuals responsible for smuggling illegal aliens into and within the District of Arizona.

    These cases were referred or supported by federal law enforcement partners, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE ERO), ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

    Recent matters of interest include:

    United States v. Angel Said Ojeda-Figueroa: On May 17, 2025, a Bureau of Land Management Ranger initiated a vehicle stop on Angel Said Ojeda-Figueroa. Ojeda-Figueroa initially failed to stop, but when the vehicle entered a neighborhood, Ojeda-Figueroa pulled over and all four occupants exited and tried to flee. Ojeda-Figueroa and the three passengers were apprehended and determined to be citizens of Mexico, illegally present in the United States. Ojeda-Figueroa was charged by complaint with transportation of aliens for profit. [Case Number: MJ-25-5992]

    United States v. Tomas Ortiz-Lopez: On May 19, 2025, Tomas Ortiz-Lopez, was charged with Re-entry of a Removed Alien. Tomas Ortiz-Lopez was previously removed from the United States in 2000 after being convicted of a felony drug conviction, in the United States District Court, District of New Mexico. [Case Number: MJ-25-0543]

    United States v. Gabriel Jimenez-Diaz: On May 20, 2025, Border Patrol Agents attempted to initiate a vehicle stop on Gabriel Jimenez-Diaz, who failed to yield. Agents deployed a Vehicle Immobilization Device, and four subjects absconded from the vehicle. After a search, agents located and apprehended Jimenez-Diaz and three passengers from the vehicle. Agents determined that all four individuals were citizens of Mexico, illegally present in the United States. Jimenez-Diaz was charged by complaint with transportation of aliens for profit. [Case Number: MJ-25-6199]

    United States v. Juan Carlos Carmona-Maya: On May 20, 2025, Juan Carlos Carmona-Maya, was charged with Re-entry of a Removed Alien. Juan Carlos Carmona-Maya was previously removed from the United States in 2014 after being convicted of Theft of Means of Transportation, a felony offense, in the Superior Court of Arizona, Maricopa County. [Case Number: MJ-25-05251]

    United States v. Luis Fernando Ibarra, Jr.: On May 21, 2025, Border Patrol Agents received a report of two subjects hiding in the backyard of a residence near the border in Nogales, Arizona. Luis Fernando Ibarra Jr. drove to the residence, stopped, and two subjects ran toward his vehicle. Before they reached the vehicle, one subject was apprehended by the Nogales Police Department and the other successfully fled the area. Later in the day, Agents observed the same vehicle return to the area and a subject got into the vehicle. Agents tried to initiate a vehicle stop, but Ibarra Jr. ran a red light and fled at a high rate of speed, maneuvering recklessly and driving on the wrong side of the road. Ibarra Jr. then sped through several parking lots before driving into the Santa Cruz River where his vehicle became stuck in the sand. At that point, officers apprehended Ibarra Jr. and the passenger, who was determined to be a citizen of Mexico, illegally present in the United States. Ibarra Jr. was charged by complaint with transportation of aliens for profit. [Case Number: MJ-25-6247]

    A criminal complaint is simply a method by which a person is charged with criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent until evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

    These cases are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. – U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson announced today that federal charges were filed against Jon Patrick Kubler, 52, of Redondo Beach, California, for allegedly orchestrating a $4 million investment scheme that targeted elderly and vulnerable victims.

    James C. Barnacle, Jr., Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in North Carolina, joins U.S. Attorney Ferguson in making today’s announcement.

    According to allegations in the criminal indictment, from December 2017 to April 2023, Kubler defrauded about 30 investors out of more than $4 million through an investment fraud scheme.

    Despite not being licensed as an investment adviser, Kubler allegedly provided investment planning and management services to victims who were unsophisticated investors, elderly, and the beneficiaries of settlements or life insurance proceeds. Throughout the scheme, Kubler allegedly made false and fraudulent representations to victims, concealed and omitted material facts, and told deceptive half-truths to induce victims to invest in commercial real estate through companies he owned and operated, including Aksarben Evolution, LLC and Green Saddle, LLC.

    To further the scheme and to convince investors their investments were profitable, Kubler allegedly made Ponzi-style payments to victims, using new investors’ money to pay existing investors, purporting the pay-outs were the result of successful investing and not funds from new victims Kubler had solicited. It is further alleged that Kubler used a portion of the investors’ money to pay for personal expenses and to make cash withdrawals, among others.

    According to allegations in the indictment, in 2022, a victim investor received a letter from U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding its investigation into alleged securities fraud by Kubler. In an effort to conceal the scheme and that he was being investigated by the SEC, Kubler misled the victim by telling her that she did not need to respond to the SEC and that it was normal to receive a letter from the SEC after receiving a large settlement from a third party, as the victim had.

    Kubler is charged with securities fraud and transactional money laundering. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the securities fraud offense and 10 years for the transactional money laundering offense. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence imposed after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

    U.S. Attorney Ferguson thanked the FBI in Charlotte for its investigation of the case.

    In addition to the criminal charges, in September 2023, the SEC announced that it obtained a temporary asset freeze, restraining order, and other emergency relief in the U.S. District court in the District of Nebraska against Kubler and several of the entities under his control, for allegedly engaging in a multi-year Ponzi scheme that misappropriated and misused investors’ funds. A final judgment was entered on January 22, 2025, in which Kubler agreed to be permanently enjoined from violating the securities laws and to pay disgorgement and civil penalties.

    Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Frick and Assistant U.S. Attorney Graham Billings are in charge of the prosecution.

    The charges in the indictment are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

    Senator Hawley spent this past Monday on the ground in St. Louis, meeting with victims and surveying the damage inflicted by this past Friday’s tornadoes that struck Eastern Missouri.

    U.S. Senators Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) reintroduced a resolution honoring Natalie and Davy Lloyd, the Missouri missionaries who were tragically killed one year ago by unlawful Haitian gangs on May 23, 2024. The resolution acknowledges the Lloyds’ service to communities in Haiti and honors their memory.

    “Natalie and Davy Lloyd epitomize selfless service and giving to the uttermost. They lost their lives serving the people of Haiti, a country that was not their own, sheerly for love of neighbor and love of the Lord. They really show what it means to be a Christian. They show what it means to be a Missourian and an American. They are the best of us,” said Senator Hawley. “I’m honoring them again with a Senate Resolution to thank them for their Christian witness, to thank them for what they mean for our state and to thank their family for their service.     Last night, the Senate passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) honoring former United States Senator and Missouri Governor Christopher “Kit” Bond. Bond passed away on May 13, 2025 at the age of 86.

    “Kit Bond was a patriot. He led a life defined by dedication to his state and country, and he inspired countless people through his friendship and mentorship—including myself,” said Senator Josh Hawley. “I’m grateful to my colleagues in the Senate for honoring his example of service.”

    “I was pleased to see the Senate unanimously pass our resolution honoring the life and legacy of Legendary Missouri Senator Christopher ‘Kit’ Bond. Kit was a force in the Show Me State leading with his trademark sense of humor and dedication to making our state the best in the nation. It is only right the U.S. Senate recognize my close friend and mentor on his tremendous career and public service to our nation,” said Senator Eric Schmitt.

    Bond served as the 47th and 49th Governor of Missouri, serving from 1973 to 1977 and again from 1981 to 1985. He later served four terms in the United States Senate from 1987 to 2011 where he advanced conservative values, championed infrastructure, advocated for Missouri farmers, and strengthened national defense.

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) released a new report on how President Donald Trump’s reckless cuts to staff and services are hurting our veterans.

    “When Americans serve and sacrifice for our freedom, it’s our duty to have their back when these brave men and women return home,” said Senator Baldwin. “As we spend this weekend remembering those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for us and honoring the families of the fallen, we also recommit ourselves to taking care of those in uniform, those who returned home, and the loved ones of our troops. I will work with anyone to do right by our veterans and survivors but this Administration is failing to keep their end of that sacred promise.”

    President Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE are enacting deep cuts across the federal government that continue to cost veterans their jobs and jeopardize essential care through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that veterans and their caregivers rely on every day. VA Secretary Doug Collins announced they plan to cut 83,000 jobs, slashing the essential workforce by over 17 percent at the federal agency. These cuts come on top of staffing shortages at the VA, including having 66,000 vacancies across the health system, and further outlined in a 2024 report that found that 137 of 139 VA health centers nationwide report a severe staffing shortage in at least one area, particularly nursing and psychology.

    NPR found that 11,273 VA employees nationwide have applied for deferred resignation, which the Trump administration is offering as part of its DOGE initiative to cut the VA’s workforce. The top positions across all networks that are requesting deferred resignation are nurses (about 1,300), medical support assistants (about 800), and social workers (about 300). In a recent poll by Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, more than 4 out of 5 veterans said they are concerned that recent federal cuts could impact veteran benefits and health care.

    Veterans are also being hit hard by cuts across the federal agencies, where they make up 30 percent of the nearly 2.3 million civilian federal workforce. DOGE’s stated goal to eliminate 75 percent of the federal workforce could mean that up to 500,000 veterans could lose their jobs.
