  • MIL-OSI Australia: Three arrested over car park assault

    Three people were arrested today following investigations into a violent assault in the city earlier this week.

    About 6.30pm on Tuesday 24 June, a 29-year-old man was assaulted in a car park at Topham Mall, Waymouth Street, Adelaide.

    It will be alleged he was set upon by three young males armed with a knife and a bottle and sustained significant lacerations.  The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance.  His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

    Following investigations, Youth and Street Gangs Task Force attended a northern suburbs home today (Friday 27 June) and arrested three suspects.

    A 15-year-old boy from Blakeview, a 16-year-old boy from Semaphore Park and a 20-year-old man from Brahma Lodge were all charged with aggravated assault cause harm.

    The youths were refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on Monday 30 June.

    The 20-year-old man was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 10 August.

    Police wish to reassure the public that this was not a random incident.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Fatal traffic accident in Pat Heung

         Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Pat Heung in the small hours today (June 27) in which a man  died.

    At about 2.10am, a taxi driven by a 63-year-old man was travelling along Fan Kam Road towards Sheung Shui, while a private car driven by a 54-year-old man was travelling along Fan Kam Road towards Yuen Long. When reaching the vicinity of Wang Toi Shan Chuk Hang Chuen, the two vehicles reportedly collided head-on.

        The taxi driver and two male passengers, aged 41 and 43 respectively, were trapped inside the taxi and rescued by firemen. The 41-year-old male passenger sustained serious injuries and was rushed to North District Hospital in unconscious state, and was certified dead at 3.02am.

         The taxi driver sustained serious injuries to his chest and limbs and was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in conscious state; the 43-year-old male taxi passenger sustained injuries to his head and hand and was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital in conscious state; while the private car driver sustained injuries to his waist and was sent to North District Hospital in conscious state.

         Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North is under way.

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Prompt arrest after vehicle stolen opposite Napier Police Station

    An alleged car thief in Napier picked the wrong location to try her luck – getting arrested within 10 minutes of stealing a vehicle parked opposite the Police station.

    Shortly before 10am today, a courier driver was delivering a parcel to a premises on Station Street, opposite the Napier Police Station.

    Senior Sergeant Su Robinson says the driver left his vehicle running, as was his usual practice, when a woman got into the vehicle and drove off with the van loaded full of parcels.

    “The driver has urgently run into the front counter of the Police Station and let front desk staff know,” she says.

    “An immediate call went out to all staff on the radio with the details, and staff have sprung into action.”

    Officers have made area enquiries, and located both the van and the woman on Masefield Avenue.

    The 27-year-old woman was arrested, and she is due in Napier District Court on 3 July charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

    Senior Sergeant Robinson says the woman will also face a burglary charge, after the arresting officer located property on her relating to a previous burglary.

    “While officers were fortunate to make an incredibly quick arrest on this occasion, we’d urge anyone leaving their vehicle even for a short time to please ensure it is locked – as it only takes a second for someone to steal it.”

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Police continuing to seek Solomon Apihai

    Auckland City Police is continuing to look for Solomon Kapua Apihai.

    The 41-year-old man has a warrant for his arrest and is continuing to evade Police.

    Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Kirk says Police staff have been actively searching for Apihai in recent days.

    “He is wanted to arrest for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,” she says.

    “We are advising the public to contact us if they see Apihai, and not to approach him.”

    Apihai is known to frequent areas around Mt Roskill and Auckland’s CBD.

    “We know Apihai is also a frequent user of the bus network, so we are asking anyone who sees him to contact us,” acting Detective Senior Sergeant Kirk says.

  • MIL-OSI Australia: Call for information – Disturbance – Willowra

    The Northern Territory Police Force attended a large disturbance at Willowra community yesterday afternoon.

    About 5pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports of up to 60 people armed with various weapons involved in a disturbance. Two vehicles are also believed to have been deliberately set on fire.

    Ti-Tree Police deployed to the community and the group dispersed.

    Investigations are ongoing.

  • MIL-OSI Australia: Update on Port Lincoln murder

    Investigations are continuing into the murder of a 39-year-old man in Port Lincoln earlier this month.

    Police wish to reassure the public that the accused a, 34-year-old local woman Tamika Chesser, remains in custody charged with murder, and that this was not a random incident.

    Just before 3.30pm on Thursday 19 June, police and emergency services were called to a unit on Flinders Highway, Port Lincoln after reports of a small fire.

    When police entered the property, they located a deceased man.  He is believed to be the occupant and Tamika’s partner, Julian Story, 39 years old.

    It was a confronting scene for police and emergency services personnel as Julian’s body had been dismembered.   Julian’s head had been removed during the dismemberment and, despite extensive searches, has not yet been located.

    Investigators believe Julian was killed around midnight on the Tuesday 17 June.

    Police are trying to track Tamika’s movements in the week of the murder, particularly between midnight on Tuesday night and the report of the fire at 3.30 pm on Thursday afternoon.

    Major Crime detectives have released images of the clothing she was wearing during this time in the hope that it will jog people’s memories.  Police are appealing to local residents to review any CCTV or dashcam footage they have which may assist the investigation. (Images below)

    Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said, “All murders cause pain and grief for victims’ families and friends.  The circumstances of this murder are particularly harrowing, confronting and distressing.  Major Crime detectives have spoken with Julian’s family who are devastated by his loss and also by the circumstances surrounding his death.

    “We are releasing the details of this horrific crime because it is vital for Julian’s family to peacefully lay him to rest.

    “We know that Tamika did not drive a vehicle and regularly walked around the township of Port Lincoln.  We are appealing to anyone who can help us to identify Tamika’s movements to please contact police.”

  • World famous Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra begins today

    A large crowd of devotees has gathered at the Jagannath Temple in Puri as the grand Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath begins today. Also known as the Chariot Festival or Shree Gundicha Yatra, this major Hindu festival is celebrated annually in Odisha with great devotion and enthusiasm.
     
    The Rath Yatra is observed on Dwitiya Tithi—the second day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) of the lunar month. This period is considered spiritually auspicious due to the increasing brightness of the moon.
     
    Renowned scholar of Jagannath culture, Suryanarayan Rath Sharma, speaking to IANS, said, “The Rath Yatra is the most ancient chariot festival in the world. It is believed that having darshan of Lord Jagannath during this Yatra grants a devotee moksha (liberation).”
     
    Millions of devotees have gathered to witness the divine journey as Lord Jagannath, along with his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra, embarks on a nine-day sojourn from their 12th-century abode to the Gundicha Temple.
     
    Devotees, filled with spiritual ecstasy, will pull the three majestic chariots—Nandighosh (for Lord Jagannath), Taladhwaja (for Lord Balabhadra), and Darpadalan (for Goddess Subhadra)—along a 3-kilometre route to the Gundicha Temple. According to some legends, this temple is believed to be the birthplace of the Chaturddha Murti—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Maa Subhadra, and Sudarshan.
     
    To ensure a smooth and peaceful celebration, various departments of the state government have made elaborate preparations.
     
    “We are fully prepared for the grand Rath Yatra. All rituals and arrangements have been meticulously planned and will be carried out with equal dedication. I seek the blessings of Mahaprabhu and the cooperation of all devotees to ensure a smooth and sacred celebration,” said Puri Collector Sidharth Shankar Swain on Thursday.
     
    The city of Puri has been placed under a five-tier security blanket for the nine-day-long festival. As many as 200 platoons of police forces and eight companies from the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and other central agencies have been deployed throughout the holy town.
     
    Additionally, around 10,000 personnel from the Odisha Police, Central Armed Police Forces, and Home Guard have been stationed in and around the city to manage the massive crowd.
     
    For the first time, an integrated command-and-control system has been established to monitor the event. Police officers at central and sub-control rooms are keeping an eye on traffic and crowd movement through live feeds from approximately 275 AI-enabled CCTV cameras installed from Uttara Square to Puri Town, as well as along the Puri-Konark route.

  • MIL-OSI Australia: Charges – Assault a worker – Millner

    The NT Police Force arrested an 18-year-old male after he allegedly assaulted a shop attendant in Millner yesterday afternoon.

    About 2pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports of male allegedly threatening shop attendants at a local grocery shop on Sabine Road. The male allegedly went behind the counter and attempted to open the register before the shop attendants and members of the public intervened.

    One of the shop attendants was struck with a stapler that was thrown at his head causing a minor laceration. The male fled the scene before police arrival.

    The Dog Operations Unit and Territory Safety Division officers responded. Patrol Dog Wedge was deployed and tracked the male to a location nearby where he was arrested without incident.

    The 18-year-old male has since been charged with Assault with intent to steal, Assault a worker – Suffers harm and two counts of Assault a worker. He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

  • MIL-OSI Australia: Invasive pest detected in City of Wanneroo

    The first case of Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB) has been detected in the City of Wanneroo.

    The City is working with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) to enact a Tree Management Plan for the affected tree and will continue to monitor the location closely in the coming weeks.

    First detected in Perth in 2021, the PSHB is a tiny, wood-boring beetle native to Southeast Asia. About the size of a sesame seed, PSHB excavates tunnels in trees where they cultivate fungus as a food source, resulting in tree dieback and death.

    Mayor Linda Aitken said the City remained committed to prioritising effective and timely management of the PSHB.

    “The PSHB could significantly impact the City of Wanneroo’s urban canopy if it were to become established here,” she said. 

    “It’s important that we all check our trees for signs and report any suspected sightings, to allow DPIRD to investigate.

    “Protecting and increasing our canopy cover and vegetation is a key goal for the City, as set out in our Urban Forest Strategy.”

    The City will continue to follow DPIRD’s lead in managing the spread of the PSHB and encourages the community to use the MyPestGuide app to report suspected sightings.

  • MIL-OSI Australia: Arrest – Escape custody – Alice Springs

    A 30-year-old male has been arrested after he escaped custody yesterday evening in Alice Springs.

    Around 9:30pm, the male was arrested at a casino on Barrett Drive for engaging in disorderly behaviour and drinking in a public place.

    As he was being walked to the police vehicle, two males aged 32 and 34 began harassing the police member maintaining custody of the offender.

    The 30-year-old escaped custody and fled into the Todd River, evading police attempts to apprehend him.

    Additional units attended and a cordon was established. At 10:20pm, the male was re-arrested without incident. He has since been charged with Escape from custody, Disorderly behaviour in a public place and Nuisance public drinking. He was bailed to appear in court on 29 July.

    The 32 and 34-year-olds were taken into protective custody.

    NT Police are investigating a large disturbance that occurred in Alice Springs in the early hours of this morning.

    At 3:45am, police received a report of up to 30 people fighting, allegedly armed with various weapons, on Bougainvilia Avenue in East Side.

    Police responded immediately and the group dispersed upon police arrival. No injuries were reported to police and high visibility patrols were commenced.

    A 20-year-old male was located in possession of a knife and arrested. No further disturbance was identified.

    Police are continuing with a critical incident investigation surrounding the events leading up to a fatal crash in Manurewa overnight.

    We are now in a position to release further information as our enquiries continue.

    The driver of the Mitsubishi vehicle remains in a critical condition at Middlemore Hospital, and was due to undergo surgery today.

    Police have spoken with the man taken into custody at the scene this morning.

    At this stage, the 56-year-old man has been charged with driving dangerously causing death, dangerous driving causing injury and driving while forbidden.

    He will appear in Manukau District Court today.

    Police enquiries will continue, and further charges cannot be ruled out as we investigate further.

    While matters are before the Court, we can advise that parties in both vehicles were known to each other.

    Until the next of kin notifications have been carried out, further details regarding the deceased are unable to be released.

    We would like to acknowledge the impact this event will have had on the community and our thoughts are with everyone involved.

    There are now several investigations underway, including a critical incident investigation.

    Police are still seeking information from any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time, or prior to this incident occurring.

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Youth arrested in restaurant burglary, Waikato

    A youth has been arrested and charged in relation to a burglary in Pukete on Wednesday.

    The burglary happened at around 2:20am on Wednesday morning at a restaurant on Church Road.

    Two youths in a stolen vehicle smashed a glass door and took around 35 bottles of alcohol and 17 electronic tablets before fleeing the scene.

    Police were notified later that morning, and a scene examination was conducted. Upon receiving CCTV, fast working officers identified and arrested one of the offenders the following morning.

    The stolen vehicle was recovered, and all the tablets have been returned to the victim.

    A 16-year-old appeared in the Hamilton Youth Court Thursday afternoon charged with burglary and unlawfully using a motor vehicle.

    Police continue to make enquiries to identify the second offender involved.

  • MIL-OSI Australia: Arrest – Aggravated robbery – Pinelands

    The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested a 47-year-old male in relation to an aggravated robbery in Pinelands yesterday afternoon.

    Around 5:00pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports of a disturbance involving a male allegedly armed with a machete on the Stuart Highway in Pinelands.

    It is alleged a trailer containing construction equipment was stolen from a business premises along the Stuart Highway in Pinelands, before the victim observed it was missing a short time later. The victim drove around before stopping nearby after noticing the suspected stolen property attached to a vehicle broken down on the side of the road nearby.

    Initial investigations indicate the alleged offender threatened the victim with a machete after the victim approached him. The offender then allegedly entered the victims vehicle to jump start his own personal vehicle before fleeing the scene.

    Shortly after, the vehicle broke down nearby the Stuart Highway and Tiger Brennan Drive on-ramp, where the male fled into nearby bushland.

    The Dog Operations Unit and general duties members attended on scene swiftly.

    Patrol Dog (PD) Wedge was deployed and tracked the alleged offender 400 metres where they located and apprehended him while concealed within the bush.

    The male was arrested and is likely to be charged later today.

    A machete was seized and the stolen property was returned to the victim.

    The Crime Command has carriage of the investigation.

    Acting Superintendent Meacham King stated, “This is another good example of the essential work the dog operations unit undertakes in tracking violent offenders and apprehending them.

    PD Wedge and his handler are a highly effective team protecting the community.”

    Investigation into Post Office Horizon scandal gathers momentum

    Six months since the police team investigating the Post Office Horizon scandal was strengthened to 100, their work continues to gather pace with the scope ever increasing.

    Currently, there are over 45 individuals under investigation as enquiries progress, with seven formally identified as suspects.

    At its introduction, the team, made up of officers and staff from around the country, began with around 1.5 million documents to review and through evidence gathering this has now increased to 6 million, with both the number of documents, suspects and victims expected to rise.

    The investigation is overseen by the National Police Chiefs’ Council and the Metropolitan Police, led by Commander Stephen Clayman. He said:

    “Victims remain at the heart of this investigation and our contact with the many people affected by the Post Office Horizon scandal continues to increase. This week (25 June) the whole investigation team met in person for the first time during our operational development day, a valuable opportunity to come together and reaffirm our focus on the investigative strategy and discuss next steps.

    “To date, four individuals have been interviewed. Two in late 2021, one in late 2024 and most recently one in early 2025. Formally identifying a suspect and preparing to question them takes a significant amount of time due to the volume of material and enquiries necessary so these numbers will continue to rise as the team’s work progresses.

    “We are making progress and laying the foundations for what is to come. We all have a personal commitment to this investigation which goes far beyond documents and evidence. It is about the thousands of lives the Post Office Horizon scandal has impacted and we remain focussed on our goal of securing justice for those affected.”

    Four Regional Investigation Teams (RITs) are made up from police forces across England and Wales with Police Scotland and the Police Service of Northern Ireland also making contributions.

    Additional national oversight of the investigation is provided by a Platinum group, led by NPCC Chair, Chief Constable Gavin Stephens, and comprised of nationally appointed leads for the investigation, finance, Crown Prosecution Service and victim engagement. Its role is to ensure the national team remains resourced to agreed strengths, along with oversight of the financial management of the investigation and support infrastructure. 

    The investigation is unprecedented in both its scale and complexity and is truly national in its scope – with most areas across England and Wales affected, along with Scotland and Northern Island. It was determined that a national policing response would be required to effectively investigate the actions of Post Office Limited and its investigators, managers, legal teams and executive oversight, along with staff and executives within Fujitsu. This will involve reviewing millions of documents to identify actions which could amount to criminal offences on both an individual and corporate basis.

    Op Olympos is investigating perjury and perverting the course of justice offences in relation to the prosecutions. These prosecutions and the sub postmasters span all police forces with potential suspects across the country.

    Op Olympos is not a reinvestigation of these wrongful prosecutions. Whilst the sub postmasters are victims of tainted or missing evidence being presented about them, the offences under investigation are against the Post Office.

    The action taken against the sub postmasters provides part of the evidence for perverting the course of justice, however it is not necessary to review each and every case. This strategy has been reviewed and agreed by Crown Prosecution Service throughout and is deemed to meet disclosure and evidential requirements, whilst remaining focussed and proportionate. This will require continuous scrutiny in order to prevent the scope becoming too large and less focussed.

    The investigation is overseen by the National Police Chiefs’ Council and the Metropolitan Police, led by Commander Stephen Clayman. He said:

    “Victims remain at the heart of this investigation and our contact with the many people affected by the Post Office Horizon scandal continues to increase. This week (25 June) the whole investigation team met in person for the first time during our operational development day, a valuable opportunity to come together and reaffirm our focus on the investigative strategy and discuss next steps.

    “To date, four individuals have been interviewed. Two in late 2021, one in late 2024 and most recently one in early 2025. Formally identifying a suspect and preparing to question them takes a significant amount of time due to the volume of material and enquiries necessary so these numbers will continue to rise as the team’s work progresses.

    “We are making progress and laying the foundations for what is to come. We all have a personal commitment to this investigation which goes far beyond documents and evidence. It is about the thousands of lives the Post Office Horizon scandal has impacted and we remain focussed on our goal of securing justice for those affected.”

    Four Regional Investigation Teams (RITs) are made up from police forces across England and Wales with Police Scotland and the Police Service of Northern Ireland also making contributions.

    Additional national oversight of the investigation is provided by a Platinum group, led by NPCC Chair, Chief Constable Gavin Stephens, and comprised of nationally appointed leads for the investigation, finance, Crown Prosecution Service and victim engagement. Its role is to ensure the national team remains resourced to agreed strengths, along with oversight of the financial management of the investigation and support infrastructure. 

    The investigation is unprecedented in both its scale and complexity and is truly national in its scope – with most areas across England and Wales affected, along with Scotland and Northern Island. It was determined that a national policing response would be required to effectively investigate the actions of Post Office Limited and its investigators, managers, legal teams and executive oversight, along with staff and executives within Fujitsu. This will involve reviewing millions of documents to identify actions which could amount to criminal offences on both an individual and corporate basis.

    Op Olympos is investigating perjury and perverting the course of justice offences in relation to the prosecutions. These prosecutions and the sub postmasters span all police forces with potential suspects across the country.

    Op Olympos is not a reinvestigation of these wrongful prosecutions. Whilst the sub postmasters are victims of tainted or missing evidence being presented about them, the offences under investigation are against the Post Office.

    The action taken against the sub postmasters provides part of the evidence for perverting the course of justice, however it is not necessary to review each and every case. This strategy has been reviewed and agreed by Crown Prosecution Service throughout and is deemed to meet disclosure and evidential requirements, whilst remaining focussed and proportionate. This will require continuous scrutiny in order to prevent the scope becoming too large and less focussed.

    It is my pleasure to present the FY26 Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill and report for your consideration today. I appreciate the opportunity to work once again with Ranking Member Espaillat and the minority staff throughout the FY26 process. I’d also like to thank Chairman Cole and Ranking Member DeLauro for their continued leadership. 

    We received a record number of requests from our colleagues and the Members present today, and we had the pleasure of accommodating items from both sides of the aisle in a bipartisan manner.

    This bill provides $5 billion – a 5.3 percent decrease from the FY 2025 enacted House level. By tradition, we do not consider Senate items in the House mark, but when we take them into account, the discretionary allocation totals $6.7 billion, a $51 million decrease from the FY25 enacted CR. While we had to make a number of tough choices in this bill, we believe that as the legislative branch, it is our responsibility to lead by example and make responsible funding decreases where appropriate.

    As I mentioned in our subcommittee markup on Monday, we recognize the tragic events that recently took place in Minnesota, and I am deeply concerned and saddened by the increase in political violence in this nation.

    As appropriators we have the responsibility to provide for the safety and security for Members of Congress and the United States Capitol complex, and the bill under consideration today reflects our ongoing commitment to this duty. In 2017, the Members’ Representational Allowance was increased for the purpose of providing Member security when they are away from the Capitol complex, and this bill continues to carry that increase. It also includes increased funding for the House Sergeant at Arms and the United States Capitol Police. 

    I want to take a brief moment to highlight the funding requested by the USCP for mutual aid reimbursements. As noted in the report, the Department requested 5-year funds at the rate of $5 million per year for mutual aid. This bill provides $10 million for FY26, which is double the proposed annual amount. We intend to continue providing funds on an annual basis to ensure we are providing sufficient funding that is reflective of the growing needs at hand. 

    I would also like to thank the House Sergeant at Arms and his team for the rapid manner in which they developed a number of proposals, in consultation with Members and Leadership, regarding additional security measures. In the days ahead, we look forward to discussing these proposals with our colleagues to determine the most appropriate path forward. We plan to continue the discussion on security measures and recommend that we incorporate any needed changes when we conference with the Senate. 

    Again, I’d like to thank all Members for their thoughtful contributions to the FY26 Legislative Branch Bill and report and the staff from both the majority and the minority.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Dominican National Arrested for His Role in a Drug Trafficking Conspiracy

    CONCORD – A Dominican Republic national was arrested yesterday, in connection with an enforcement action last week, for his role in a drug trafficking organization operating out of Massachusetts and distributing illegal narcotics in Manchester, Acting U.S. Attorney Jay McCormack announces.

    Cesar Joel Perez Mejia, age 30, a Dominican Republic national unlawfully residing in Hyde Park, Massachusetts, was arrested on one count of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. He will appear in federal court today at 4:30pm.

    According to the charging documents and statements made in court, on June 23, 2025, the defendant facilitated a drug sale with an undercover officer. When the defendant arrived at the agreed upon location, law enforcement searched the defendant’s vehicle and found small individually wrapped bags containing approximately 57 grams of suspected fentanyl and 43 grams of suspected crack cocaine.

    Possession with intent to distribute carries a maximum prison term of 20 years, a maximum fine of $1,000,000, and a term of supervised release of at least three years and up to life.

    The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Major Offender Task Force and the Manchester Police Department led the investigation.  DEA New England, HSI New England, and the Boston, Attleboro, Methuen, Lynn, and Providence Police Departments provided valuable assistance. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael Shannon and Heather Cherniske are prosecuting the case.

    This effort is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

    The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Stuck in the mud lands rider in court

    A game of stuck in the mud has ended in court for one rider after he attempted to evade Police during the early hours of this morning.

    Just before 4.30am, a Police unit observed a motorbike with false number plates travelling along Bruce McLaren Road, Henderson.

    Waitematā West Area Commander, Inspector Jason Edwards, says officers followed the rider, who appeared to be having issues with the bike.

    “The motorcycle was travelling at low speed, with the rider appearing unable to change gears.”

    He says the rider then noticed Police and allegedly continued onto Henderson Valley Road and attempted to evade Police by riding on the footpath.

    “The motorcycle, which has since been confirmed as stolen, ended up getting stuck in mud and the rider has fled on foot.

    “A foot chase has ensued and officers have quickly taken him into custody.

    “Thanks to the good work of all Police staff involved, the rider will be held to account.”

    A 24-year-old man, who also had a warrant to arrest, will appear in Waitākere District Court today charged with failure to answer district court bail.

    Other charges are being considered.

  • MIL-OSI Canada: Public awareness campaign targets extortion threats

    In response to a rise in extortion threats against members of the South Asian community, BC Crime Stoppers is launching a digital media campaign to raise awareness and encourage reporting of extortion activity.

    “The recent surge in extortion threats targeting members of the South Asian community is very concerning, and we are doing everything we can to support police efforts in investigating these crimes,” said Garry Begg, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. “Reporting is the most important step in stopping extortion and keeping people safe, so if you are a victim of extortion, or have any information that could help solve a crime, I urge you to contact Crime Stoppers.”

    With support from the federal government’s Gun and Gang Violence Action Fund, the B.C. government has provided $100,000 to help BC Crime Stoppers run a 60-day extortion awareness campaign. The campaign is launching Thursday, June 26, 2025, and shares important information about recognizing and reporting extortion threats, helping individuals, business owners and families stay safe and informed.

    The campaign was developed in consultation with individuals with deep knowledge of extortion, experience in policing and lived experience within the South Asian community. The goal is encouraging people to report extortion threats to help police stop those responsible. The campaign will be available in English and Punjabi, and will include advertisements on radio, podcasts, Spotify, social media and television.

    “Since 1982, BC Crime Stoppers and its local programs have offered the community an anonymous way to report criminal activity,” said Gillian Millam, executive director, BC Crime Stoppers. “In partnership with the provincial government, BC Crime Stoppers aims to educate the community on how to recognize and report cases of extortion. The primary goal of this campaign is to inform the public and help solve crime.”

    The Province continues to take action to combat serious and organized crime with more than $100 million invested annually to bolster provincial firearm forensic capabilities, strengthen gang enforcement and suppression initiatives, and support community-based prevention and intervention programs.

    Provincial efforts are supported by the federal government’s Gun and Gang Violence Action Fund, with the B.C. government receiving nearly $11 million from Public Safety Canada for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The funding will go toward anti-gang and crime initiatives throughout the province, including the Organized Crime Agency of BC, and police departments to support operations in dismantling serious and organized crime.

    KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations special agents, in collaboration with federal, state and local law enforcement partners, executed a federal search warrant at Buckeye Fire Equipment Company June 25 as part of an active, ongoing criminal investigation. This operation specifically focused on serious allegations of aggravated identity theft and potential federal crimes.

    As a result of the initial investigation, 30 people were arrested onsite.

    “This operation underscores HSI’s unwavering commitment to protecting the integrity of our nation’s financial and identification systems. Identity fraud is not a victimless crime — it fuels a range of criminal activity and puts innocent people at risk,” said HSI Charlotte Special Agent in Charge Cardell T. Morant, who also oversees North and South Carolina. “Working alongside our law enforcement partners, HSI will continue to pursue those who exploit these systems for personal gain and hold them accountable under federal law.”

  • MIL-OSI Security: Essex County Man Charged in Bank Fraud Conspiracy

    NEWARK, N.J. – An Essex County resident was charged for his role in a bank fraud conspiracy, United States Attorney Alina Habba announced.

    Isiah J. Jordan, 27, is charged by criminal complaint with one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and one count of bank fraud. He made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leda Dunn Wettre and was released on $100,000 bond.     

    According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:          

    Jordan was part of a multi-person scheme to steal checks from the mail and deposit those checks into bank accounts controlled by his co-conspirators. For example, in June 2023, Company-1 mailed out a business check for over $50,000. That check was stolen and altered by Jordan and his co-conspirators such that the payee information on the original check was changed so that the check could be deposited into an account controlled by the conspirators. Then in July 2023, after the stolen check cleared, Jordan and his co-conspirators withdrew the money from the account and split the proceeds.   

    Jordan and his coconspirators then continued to actively recruit other members to participate in and join the conspiracy. Specifically, they recruited individuals who had long-standing bank accounts to continue the scheme of depositing stolen checks and withdrawing the funds before the bank or the victims whose checks were stolen were aware of the illegal activity. 

    The bank fraud conspiracy and the bank fraud charges both carry a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1,000,000.      

    U.S. Attorney Habba credited special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Stefanie Roddy in Newark, and the New Jersey State Police, under the direction of Colonel Patrick J. Callahan, with the investigation. 

    The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Casey S. Smith of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division and Thomas S. Kearney of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Special Prosecutions Division in Newark.

    The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Critical incident investigation underway in Manurewa

    One person has died, and another is in a critical condition following an incident in Manurewa overnight.

    A critical incident investigation is now underway, which will establish the full circumstances of what unfolded.

    At about 1am, a Police unit was travelling along Roscommon Road after attending an unrelated job.

    Staff have then sighted a Mitsubishi vehicle pulling out of Sharland Road closely followed by an Isuzu.

    Officers were concerned the Mitsubishi was being chased by the Isuzu and signalled for the Isuzu to stop on Roscommon Road.

    Moments after lights and sirens were activated the Isuzu made contact with the Mitsubishi, causing the vehicle to leave the road and collide with a tree.

    Officers immediately rendered first aid, however the passenger of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    The driver was transported to hospital in a critical condition, where they remain.

    The driver of the Isuzu was arrested at the scene and transported to hospital with minor injuries.

    A scene examination has been completed by the Serious Crash Unit and the road has since reopened.

    There are several investigations now underway, which will work to establish all the facts surrounding this morning’s tragic incident.

    This includes notifying the Independent Police Conduct Authority, as is standard procedure.

    We are also working to support those affected and their families, as well as our staff who were involved.

    As part of our investigation, we are seeking information from witnesses who may have been in the area at the time, or prior to this incident occurring.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Canadian National Extradited for Mailing Fraudulent Prize Notices

    WASHINGTON — A Canadian national accused of operating fraudulent prize notice schemes was extradited to the United States and made his initial appearance in Las Vegas federal court on June 18, the Department of Justice and U.S. Postal Inspection Service announced today.

    Patrick Fraser, 44, of Alberta, Canada, will face federal charges of conspiracy and mail fraud. Fraser was arrested on June 15, 2023, by Canadian authorities pursuant to a U.S. extradition request and was surrendered to the United States this month. A detention hearing was held on June 23, and Fraser was ordered detained pending trial.

    According to the indictment, the defendant conspired with others to operate fraud schemes through which he mailed fraudulent prize notifications to individuals in the United States and in other countries. The prize notifications falsely represented that the victims had been specifically chosen to receive a large cash prize, typically over $1 million, and would receive the prize upon payment of a small free. Many of the victims were elderly and vulnerable.

    “The Justice Department is committed to prosecuting and pursuing those who perpetrate fraud schemes targeting America’s seniors,” said Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate of the Justice Department’s Civil Division. “I thank Canada for assisting in extraditing this individual to face charges here in the United States. The Justice Department and U.S. law enforcement partners will continue to work closely with law enforcement partners across the globe to bring to justice criminals who attempt to defraud U.S. victims from outside the United States.”

    “The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work with the Consumer Protection Branch and our law enforcement partners in the United States and the world to identify and pursue transnational criminals who prey on older Americans,” said U.S. Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada. “Through our Elder Justice Initiative, Assistant U.S. Attorneys and professional staff are combating elder financial exploitation and fraud. This extradition is another example of the outstanding collaboration between federal law enforcement and international partners.”

    “Postal inspectors protect the vulnerable. If you use fake prize offers to scam others, we’ll find you—and you will be held accountable,” said U.S. Postal Inspector in Charge Eric Shen.

    Fraser is charged in a nine-count indictment filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Las Vegas. If convicted, Fraser faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison per count. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

    All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Dunn of the Justice Department’s Consumer Protection Branch and Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Anthony Lopez for the District of Nevada are prosecuting the case. USPIS investigated the case. The Justice Department is grateful to the Vancouver Police Department, who provided assistance through official requests. The Office of International Affairs of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division accomplished the extradition of Fraser from Canada.

The hotline is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET. English, Spanish, and other languages are available.

    Police are advising motorists to avoid all unnecessary travel in the Nelson Bays area this morning.

    The area is being hit by adverse weather conditions with flooding across the area and road closures likely.

    Especially avoid: Belgrove, Wakefield, Brightwater, Richmond, Whakatu Drive, Appleby, Redwood, Riwaka.

    In extreme conditions, please limit yourself to essential travel only, ensure you have had your brakes and windscreen wipers checked. Reducing speed, using headlights and watching your visibility will also ensure a safe trip.
