  • MIL-OSI Russia: Let’s talk about Russia: Polytechnic’s study guides for Mariupol students

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

From September 1, students of the Priazovsky State Technical University (PSTU) will begin studying the key course “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood” using the unique practical manual “Let’s Talk About Russia”. It was developed by employees of the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

In recent years, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation has been actively working to reform the humanitarian block of disciplines in the country’s universities. One of the main innovations of the 2023-2024 academic year was the introduction of a patriotic-focused academic subject, “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood”. The need to develop the discipline was especially emphasized by Russian President V.V. Putin at a meeting of the State Council “On the implementation of youth policy in modern conditions”. The head of state pointed out the critical importance of this step in the context of escalating information confrontation, noting the increased vulnerability of the younger generation to targeted attacks from outside. The task has been set to give young people reliable guidelines and reliable knowledge through a fundamental academic course on the “History of Russia” and “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood”.

In response to the appeal of the teachers of the Priazovsky State Technical University to the Vice-Rector for Educational Activities of SPbPU Lyudmila Pankova, an additional print run of the textbook “Let’s Talk About Russia” was promptly printed and sent to Mariupol. The presentation ceremony took place at the A. A. Zhdanov Memorial House-Museum in Mariupol – a branch of the State Memorial Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad.

The practical manual was prepared by a team of authors — teachers of the Higher School of Social Sciences of the Humanitarian Institute. The main feature of the publication is its innovative structure, which allows for an organic combination of theoretical training in the course “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood” with various analytical, project and creative tasks.

By studying the fundamental principles of statehood, value and ideological attitudes of a citizen of the Russian Federation, students will not only learn the information, but also comprehend it through dialogues, discussions, project work and the completion of creative tasks.

For example, when studying the topic “Diversity of Russian Regions”, students are offered tasks in the form of fillwords and anagrams. The game approach turns the acquisition of material into a fascinating search, developing attentiveness and analytical thinking. Working on the topic “Victories and Trials of Russia”, students create a virtual art gallery of works dedicated to the trials or victories of Russia. Reflecting on the traditional values of Russian society, students analyze how values and moral ideals are reflected in language, works of art, and are fixed in the form of quotes, images, and characters. The children select quotes and suitable images from works of literature and popular culture that most vividly demonstrate the manifestation of a specific value. It is the synthesis of theory and interactive tasks that allows us to form a meaningful personal attitude to the principles and values of Russian statehood, making the learning process as productive and engaging as possible.

At the present time, the Higher School of Social Sciences of the Humanitarian Institute is completing work on a collective monograph, “Russia’s Civilization Path,” within the framework of a single educational and methodological complex on “Fundamentals of Russian Statehood.” The monograph will become an additional resource for integration processes aimed at forming the socio-cultural sovereignty of our country.

In total, over 47 thousand participants from 60 countries are expected at INNOPROM-2025, including representatives of 11 thousand organizations and companies.

“I am glad to welcome you to the anniversary XV International Industrial Exhibition INNOPROM! The main theme of INNOPROM-2025 — “Technological Leadership: Industrial Breakthrough” — is fully revealed in the business and exhibition program of the exhibition. And almost every thematic track of the exhibition — be it the development and application of advanced digital and production technologies or effective educational solutions for training a new generation of engineering personnel — corresponds to one or another scientific and technological or practice-oriented educational area of activity of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, — says Rector of SPbPU, Chairman of the SPbB RAS Andrey Rudskoy. — I am convinced that INNOPROM-2025 will become an effective platform for uniting sites for demonstration, interaction, as well as effective business communications with potential customers and investors. The stand of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is open for constructive dialogue and interaction with all interested participants and partners who are ready, like our university, to actively participate in the implementation of the action program to achieve technological leadership in Russia.”

Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University presents more than ten advanced developments at the exhibition, which not only demonstrate the level of the engineering school of Russia, but are also ready for implementation in key areas of industry. These are not prototypes “for the future”, but ready-made solutions for the present.

“Zhuchok” – a transport platform for wheelchairs

A distinctive feature is that any wheelchair can enter the platform: both electric and mechanical. This allows the platform to be rented on popular tourist routes or beaches, increasing their accessibility for people with disabilities. Equipped with a unique rubber track, which has no analogues in Russia.

Industrial cartridge – an effective barrier for protecting urban waters

FOPS filters purify wastewater, turning sewer manholes into eco-stations. The development is entirely Russian and has already been tested in megacities. The solution is scalable and relevant for all urbanized areas. FOPS filters are not thrown away after cleaning, but are included in the composition of nutrient substrates. The new technology closes the ecological cycle, reduces waste and makes agriculture “greener”. The key idea: to use what others throw away.

    Lithium-ion module with smart balancing

Module for electric vehicles and new generation equipment. Up to 1500 W/kg of power in a compact case. Most of the components are domestically produced, the rest can be replaced in the near future.

    “Nomad” – mobile laser welder

Mobile laser cladding complex created in the Research Laboratory “LiAT” of the Institute of Metallurgy and Metallurgy of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The Nomad is designed to restore and modify the surfaces of large-sized and special products using laser cladding. After transportation, the start-up and adjustment time is up to 30 minutes. The laboratory specialists designed the complex to carry out projects to repair components of domestic and imported gas turbine engines. This technology allows applying layers of material to a substrate or a finished product. Metal powders and wires can be used as raw materials. The main feature of the MK is its compactness and the ability to move to the work site, which is convenient for repairing large-sized products.

Also on the stand you can see nozzle assemblies after restoration repairs using the laser gas-powder surfacing method, working and nozzle blades, welded joints formed using the laser and hybrid laser-arc welding method, and much more.

New generation unmanned aerial vehicle “Snegir-2”

The Snegir electric UAV family is a line of multifunctional unmanned vehicles developed by specialists from the Experimental Design Bureau of the Advanced Engineering School of SPbPU “Digital Engineering”. In 2023, the Snegir-1 UAV was created on an initiative basis in just five months, and in 2024–2025, the Snegir-1.5 and Snegir-2 modifications with increased take-off weight and flight range were developed on its basis.

The new generation UAV Snegir-2 presented at the Polytechnic stand has increased stability due to an improved control system, and is also equipped with an innovative modular system of interchangeable components, which allows the device to be quickly adapted to perform various tasks.

The SPbPU stand showcased developments of the Polymer Composite Materials laboratory of the SPbPU Advanced Engineering School “Digital Engineering”, including demonstrators of overprinting and induction welding technologies for thermoplastic composite materials, as well as automated laying out of thermoplastic unidirectional prepregs. These solutions were highly praised by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko at the XI International Forum of Technological Development “Technoprom” in 2024.

Innovative materials and products are presented for the first time: ASM PEEK C140UD toupreg for automated production of highly loaded composite structures, a bracket made of ASM PEEK-C285S-P based on a thermoplastic consolidated plate made of superstructural polyetheretherketone, as well as ASM PEEK-3K filament for 3D printing based on continuous carbon fiber. The production technologies of the materials were developed by engineers of the Polymer Composite Materials laboratory of the Advanced Engineering School “Digital Engineering” of SPbPU in the interests of JSC Prepreg-SKM (part of Rosatom Composite Technologies), and samples of the materials were manufactured by an enterprise of the composite division of the State Corporation specifically for the INNOPROM-2025 exhibition.

    Oil products in water sensor

The use of the sensor allows determining the concentration of impurities in real time. Analogues allow determining the presence and concentration of impurities only in samples taken at specified time intervals. When creating the sensor, digital design technologies, additive technologies, development of proprietary image processing algorithms, and microcontroller programming were used.

“ARCitech” – industrial 3D metal printing

An open-type installation designed for electric arc growing of large-sized metal products. The technological process allows achieving record high speeds of product production (for aluminum alloys (Al) — 2.2 kg/hour, for Fe — 6 kg/hour).

“The Cable of Life” is a story that has become a symbol of heroism

An exhibit from the SPbPU History Museum is an engineering solution that saved Leningrad during the siege. A fragment of a high-voltage cable that was laid along the bottom of Lake Ladoga to provide Leningrad during the siege with electricity from the restored Volkhov Hydroelectric Power Station. It is named by analogy with the “Road of Life”.

There is also an active business program at the Polytechnic stand. On the first day of the exhibition, negotiations were held with representatives of the Industrial Cluster of the Republic of Tatarstan. They were attended by the Scientific Secretary of SPbPU Dmitry Karpov, Chairman of the Board of the Cluster Sergey Mayorov, Member of the Board Aidar Gimadeev, Member of the Board Pavel Loginov, Member of the Board Ilnar Zakirov.

BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) — A Chinese-developed robot dog managed to reach a speed of 10.3 meters per second during a TV show on Sunday, matching the world’s best sprinters.

During the race, the four-legged robot nicknamed “Heibao” /”Black Panther”/, weighing 38 kg and standing 0.63 m tall, broke the previous world speed record for such machines, which belonged to Boston Dynamics and their robot WildCat.

A video broadcast by China Central Television shows Heibao reaching impressive speeds on a treadmill. Recall that Usain Bolt’s world record for the 100m is 9.58 seconds, which translates to a speed of 10.44 m/sec.

Heibao was first unveiled in January of this year, when it demonstrated an astonishing step rate of 5 steps per second, making it one of the fastest quadrupedal robots in the world.

The new development was made possible by a collaboration between Zhejiang University’s Innovation Institute, which specializes in humanoid robots, and Hangzhou-based startup Mirror Me.

The newly upgraded Heibao now outsprints most humans, but still lags behind other recognized land-based sprinters such as cheetahs, ostriches, pronghorns, etc.

In the future, it could be used for disaster relief and logistics. -0-

BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) — China’s textile industry recorded steady growth in the first four months of this year, data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed Monday.

According to the agency, during the reporting period, the added value of products of the country’s leading textile companies, whose annual income from core activities is at least 20 million yuan (about 2.8 million US dollars), increased by 4.2 percent year-on-year.

The combined operating income of the above-mentioned enterprises for the period was 1.49 trillion yuan, down 0.5 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, from January to April, the sector’s leading retail chains posted combined sales of 6.4 trillion yuan, up 5.9 percent year-on-year.

In the first four months, the country’s textile and clothing exports grew by 1.1 percent year-on-year to $90.5 billion.

Experts believe that despite the increasing volatility in the international market and the continuing domestic difficulties, the textile industry, as a traditional sector, still has a large production scale, wide market demand and high employment capacity. It continues to play a key role in supporting the economy and the well-being of the population.

According to an industry insider, many textile companies, under pressure from the difficult international environment, are stepping up their efforts to find and create new materials and are actively seeking to enter the premium segment of international production chains. -0-

BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) — A ceremony to launch international cooperation in scientific and technological innovation under the Belt and Road Initiative was held in Fengcheng City, a city under Dandong in northeast China’s Liaoning Province, in an effort to expand international scientific and technological exchanges. The event marks a new stage of cooperation with the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences) in the field of innovation.

According to the local newspaper Liaoning Daily, the cooperation achieved between Fengcheng and the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences will enable the introduction of advanced scientific developments, stimulating the development of industry clusters and turning scientific and technological innovations into the driving force of high-quality development. The Dandong authorities, relying on the needs of industrial development, intend to jointly create bridges for technology transfer, strengthen interaction platforms and expand channels for the exchange of specialists, involving local universities, research institutes and technology enterprises in the alliance of Chinese-Russian scientific and technological cooperation.

At the launch ceremony, representatives of the city government, the Fengcheng City Science and Technology Administration and Liaoning Tongda Shaft Industry Co., Ltd. signed cooperation agreements with the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Situated at the crossroads of Northeast Asian economic circles, Dandong is actively creating a new platform of high-level openness by taking advantage of its border and coastal location. The city has formed five key industrial clusters: food industry, special mineral products, automobiles and components, textiles and instruments. Fengcheng’s industries – automobile turbochargers and axle shafts, agricultural machinery, mining and metallurgy, and new materials – have a high degree of compatibility and complementarity with the research areas of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, opening up broad prospects for joint work. -0-

BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) — A thrilling kickboxing match between 12-year-old Sergey from Primorsky Krai and a local athlete took place at the Changchun Sports Complex in northeast China’s Jilin Province on Thursday. After the final bell, the young fighters exchanged friendly hugs, showing respect for each other.

The fight was part of the martial arts festival “Youth and Martial Arts,” which brought together more than 240 young participants. Most of the Russian athletes represented Primorsky Krai, which borders Jilin Province.

In 1990, the city of Nakhodka in Primorsky Krai and the city of Jilin in Jilin Province became sister cities. Over the years, youth exchanges have been ongoing between the regions, and practical cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, logistics and tourism has been actively developing, yielding fruitful results.

This strong connection is especially noticeable in the border city of Hunchun in Jilin province. Russians can be seen on the streets everywhere, browsing Chinese goods at local shops. And local traders at night markets call out to customers in Russian with a slight northeastern accent.

Since the beginning of June, Zhou Yajuan, a tour guide at the Yutong International Travel Agency in Hunchun, has been receiving an average of over 200 Russian tourists a day. She said that most of them come from Primorsky Krai in groups for dental treatment and to get acquainted with traditional Chinese medicine, and their program is very busy.

At the Aizu Tang Chinese Medicine Center in Hunchun, Han Shimin receives over a thousand Russian guests every year. Certificates of appreciation in Russian hang on the walls of his office.

Over the past 35 years, economic cooperation between the regions has reached new heights. Every morning, refrigerated trucks loaded with Kamchatka crabs from Russia cross the Hunchun checkpoint and enter China. Sea corridors linking Hunchun via the Russian port of Zarubino with the Chinese ports of Ningbo, Shanghai and Qingdao have turned Jilin Province into a “city of seafood delicacies.” The Changchun-Hunchun-Europe freight train route passes through Primorsky Krai, closely linking the hinterland of Northeast China with the European continent. -0-

  • MIL-OSI Russia: The first winners of the federal program “Mom-entrepreneur” have been determined

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Ministry of Economic Development (Russia) – Ministry of Economic Development (Russia) –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Nine regions of the country have summed up the results of the regional stages of the federal program “Mom-entrepreneur”, aimed at supporting women with minor children or on maternity leave. Participants received grants in the amount of 150 thousand rubles to implement their projects.

“For 13 years now, the “Mom-entrepreneur” program has been giving women the opportunity to successfully start a business. This year, the program is only gaining momentum: regional stages will be held in 59 more regions, with about 3.5 thousand women taking part. It is also planned to implement individual thematic tracks,” noted Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Tatyana Ilyushnikova.

The program continues to inspire not only the participants, but also those who have already achieved success. Thus, within the framework of the forum of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives “Strong Ideas for a New Time”, the partner and ambassador of the “Mom-entrepreneur” program, the finalist of the “Index of Business” rating, the co-founder of the cosmetics company ESTILAB Irina Amosova spoke about her business during a meeting with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. Irina’s company is a recipient of various support measures, from a place in a coworking space to R&D subsidies. This example shows how support at the start helps women scale up projects and bring them to the federal level. At this year’s program, Irina will tell the participants how to grow their business within the legal framework, build long-term strategies, build environmentally friendly relationships with business partners and what to get inspired by.

At the regional stages, participants undergo an intensive course from certified trainers of the My Business Centers. During the week of training, they master key aspects of entrepreneurship, including business planning, marketing strategies, and ways to attract clients. The program also includes mentoring sessions with successful businessmen and individual consultations. In the final, mother-entrepreneurs defend their projects in front of experts, and the best of them receive grant support.

In 2025, the program underwent changes — now, when selecting, preference is given to projects aimed at developing key sectors of the economy. An example of such a business direction was the project of the winner from the Leningrad Region, Lyubov Pershina — a 3D printing studio. Her company produces components for industry and the automotive industry, and also creates souvenirs, toys and interior items.

“Participation in the program gave me an exchange of experience with interesting people. I have already opened a 3D printing and 3D modeling studio. Our advantage is high quality and precision. We make exclusive solutions!” – said Lyubov Pershina.

Inga Ankhimova became the winner of the regional stage in the Republic of Karelia. She won with the project “Ekovetvi” – a workshop for creating furniture and decor from living twigs. After receiving a subsidy and training at the Center “My Business”, the woman was able to turn her hobby into a successful business. The participant dedicated her victory to her son, who will soon go to serve in the army.

“This business is love at first sight. Last year the program seemed scary, but now I am proud of my work and want to develop further,” shared Inga Ankhimova.

Participants in the regional stages of the “Mama-Entrepreneur” program present projects in various business areas. For example, in the Rostov Region, Yulia Naumenko is developing the production of forged designer furniture “Aze le Rido”, Alena Patrikeyeva is launching the toy factory “Dzhunto”, Irina Chekulaeva – the production of raw-pressed oils “Davil”. Professional dog handler Maryana Chernichkina presented an interesting project – a grooming studio and puppy school “Chernika”.

The average age of female entrepreneurs is 33–40 years old, most of them are raising two children. These examples clearly demonstrate how the program helps mothers implement business ideas, combining entrepreneurship with caring for their families. The federal program “Mom-entrepreneur” is included in the list of tools of the national project “Efficient and Competitive Economy”. You can find out the dates of the regional stage and apply for participation in the program on the website mamapredprinimatel.rf.

Denis Manturov visited the Scientific and Production Association of Automatics, part of the state corporation Roscosmos. With the General Director of NPOA Mikhail Izyumov

First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov visited the Scientific and Production Association of Automatics (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation), one of the largest Russian enterprises in the field of development and production of control systems and electronic equipment for rocket and space technology. The First Deputy Prime Minister assessed the readiness of the control system for the Soyuz-5 launch vehicle.

Currently, NPO Avtomatiki is completing the manufacture of the control system for the Soyuz-5 launch vehicle. Denis Manturov visited the complex stand where the control system is undergoing development tests.

NPOA CEO Mikhail Izyumov said that the new main unit of the system is four times more compact and lighter than the unit for the Soyuz-2 launch vehicle. The use of a high-speed, productive onboard computer will optimize the communication between the rocket and ground launch equipment. This will simplify the process of preparing the product. The capabilities of the onboard computer will ensure the deployment of all test modes directly on board, and not on ground equipment. Mikhail Izyumov emphasized that the control system will be handed over for flight tests in accordance with the work schedule.

Also, for Soyuz-5, an emergency engine protection system for the first and second stages has been developed and is being manufactured, which will allow cyclically with a duration of several milliseconds to assess the state of the engine based on its operating parameters. The control will help to identify a possible emergency situation, prevent its further development and promptly issue a command to shut down the engine. In the event of an abnormal situation on the first stage engine, it will save the rocket and the launch complex, and during the flight of the second stage, if it is possible to continue the flight on one of the engine blocks, it will turn off two chambers of the emergency block, and two chambers of the second block will work. Such a scheme will be used for the first time on domestic rockets.

Denis Manturov was also presented with the capabilities of NPO Avtomatiki in the production of devices for unmanned agricultural machinery, equipment for the oil and gas production industry, as well as sensors and detectors.

Doctors at the N. I. Pirogov Clinic of High Medical Technologies at St. Petersburg State University have made a breakthrough in orthopedics. For the first time in St. Petersburg, robotic surgery has appeared using the MAKO SmartRobotics system — an advanced platform for knee and hip joint replacement. Now patients can have total and partial endoprosthetics with pinpoint precision, unachievable by traditional methods.

© Clinic of High Medical Technologies named after N. I. Pirogov, St. Petersburg State University

    N. I. Pirogov Clinic of High Medical Technologies is part of the St. Petersburg University and regularly occupies a leading position among the best medical institutions both in Russia and abroad. Over the past year, specialists at the university clinic have performed more than 35,000 successful operations.

New Bachelor’s Degree Program “Physical Rehabilitation” at St. Petersburg State University will prepare rehabilitation specialists for the high-tech branch of medicine.

The day before the operation, the surgeon plans the installation of the implant down to the smallest detail, taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient’s anatomy, based on 3D modeling data. Preoperative planning based on CT data is carried out using the MAKO digital ecosystem, which includes intraoperative navigation that visualizes the anatomy in real time, as well as a robotic arm.

“This level of preoperative preparation and intraoperative control radically changes the standards of accuracy and predictability of results. During the intervention, the robot, like the hand of an experienced sculptor, limits the area of influence of the instruments and ensures maximum precision of resections with zero possibility of error,” the traumatologist-orthopedist emphasized. Clinics named after N. I. Pirogov of St. Petersburg State University Vadim Klimenko, who performed the first operation.

MAKO SmartRobotics is the only robotic system in Russia officially registered for total hip replacement, as well as total and partial knee replacement.

Unlike surgical navigation systems, which are visualization aids, MAKO has the ability to physically control the movement of instruments. Clinical studies demonstrate significant benefits of robotic surgery: a reduction in revision rates of up to 53%, improved soft tissue balance, shorter hospital stays, reduced need for analgesics, and faster rehabilitation.

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Saint Petersburg State University –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Smartphones and social media create the illusion of productivity, but in reality they drain the psyche. Constant notifications, endless scrolling, and the fear of missing out lead to chronic anxiety and a decrease in intellectual abilities. Children, whose cognitive functions are formed in conditions of hyperconnectivity, are especially vulnerable – their thinking may never reach full maturity.

Olga Shcherbakova explained why banning gadgets in schools (as in China, Australia and the EU) improves academic performance and socialization. Modern children, who are called “digital natives”, lose their deep thinking skills because their brains get used to working in conjunction with external devices. Even educational content is not always useful – it is important to be able to distinguish educational materials from “digital fast food”. A separate problem is “cognitive reserve”: if thinking is not trained in youth, this can lead to early cognitive impairments in the future.

The world is not divided into those who are “dependent” and those who “control.” Most people simply do not realize how much their psyche has already merged with gadgets.

Leading researcher of the Faculty of Psychology of St. Petersburg State University Olga Shcherbakova

There is a way out: consciously limiting screen time, returning to analog forms of learning, and creating an environment where the brain is forced to work independently. But this requires efforts not only at the family level, but also at the level of the entire education system.

She explained how to regain your attention and help children avoid digital degradation, and whether it is worth waiting for government regulation or starting with yourself. And why even adults who consider themselves “confident users” are actually susceptible to digital addiction.

The plan, jointly released by China’s Ministry of Commerce and eight other government departments, aims to increase the supply of home care services in the market, stimulate consumer demand for them, and help improve people’s quality of life and stabilize employment.

The document sets out 14 specific measures: support for attracting rural labor to the sphere of household services, intensifying professional training in order to improve its qualifications, improving social security for those employed in this sphere, etc.

As of the end of 2024, there were nearly 300 million migrant farmers in China. And the household services sector is recognized as a key driver of employment. Currently, it employs over 30 million people and more than a million enterprises, with a market size of over 1.1 trillion yuan (about 154 billion US dollars). -0-
