    Diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $1.57, up 12 percent from a year earlier. The company’s quarterly net income rose to $23.43 billion from $21.45 billion a year earlier.

    iPhone sales rose to $44.58 billion from $39.3 billion a year earlier. Mac sales rose to $8.05 billion from $7.01 billion a year ago.

    The company’s services revenue was $27.42 billion, up from $24.21 billion in the previous year.

    Sales of wearables, home goods and accessories fell to $7.4 billion from $8.1 billion a year earlier.

    “Today, Apple is proud to report another record revenue for the June quarter, with double-digit growth across iPhone, Mac and Services, and growth worldwide in all geographic segments,” said CEO Tim Cook.

    UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) — China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Geng Shuang on Thursday rejected U.S. accusations against China over its role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

    At a Security Council meeting on Ukraine, a US envoy accused China of being the “most important supplier” to Russia’s military efforts.

    In response, the Chinese diplomat rejected the false and slanderous statements against China by the United States as absolutely unacceptable.

    China did not create the Ukrainian crisis and is not a party to it. China has never supplied lethal weapons to either side in the conflict and strictly controls the export of dual-use goods, including drones, Geng Shuang said.

    “The parties to the conflict are not under sanctions by the Security Council. China maintains normal trade relations with Russia and Ukraine. In doing so, it does not violate international law or its international obligations. China’s legitimate rights and interests should not be infringed upon,” the deputy permanent representative said. “In fact, the United States has still maintained trade with Russia. If the United States itself does this, why does it not allow others to do the same?” he added.

    The Ukrainian crisis is at a critical stage, and there is hope for a political solution. The United States cannot, on the one hand, expect China to play its role in ending the conflict as soon as possible, and on the other hand, continue to denigrate China and put pressure on it, Geng Shuang said.

    China once again calls on the United States to stop playing meaningless blame games, stop shifting responsibility to others, and play a constructive role in ending the fighting and advancing peace talks, the diplomat said.

    Resolving the Ukrainian crisis requires unity and cooperation, not division and confrontation, the deputy permanent representative added.

    Speaking about arms supplies to Ukraine, Geng Shuang expressed concern about the expanding variety and range of weapons entering the battlefield, as well as their growing lethality and destructive power.

    Reckless transfers of weapons to the battlefield will only escalate the confrontation, prolong the conflict, create risks of its spread and lead to further casualties and suffering for the populations of both sides and the entire region, he warned.

    The first priority for Russia and Ukraine is to work together to de-escalate the situation on the battlefield as quickly as possible. They must maintain the momentum of the talks, continue to seek consensus, and ultimately reach a comprehensive, lasting and binding peace agreement, the diplomat said.

    Since the first day of the conflict, China has advocated peaceful resolution of disputes and called on the parties to the conflict to stop hostilities, start negotiations and restore peace as soon as possible, Geng Shuang said, adding that China will continue to cooperate with the international community to play a constructive role in an early political settlement of the crisis. –0–

    A critical production problem is to ensure reliable ignition of burner devices of complex process equipment, for example, an autothermal reforming reactor, during its start-up. Unsuccessful ignition can lead to the formation of explosive concentrations of a flammable mixture in subsequent elements of the process chain. This, in turn, can provoke uncontrolled exothermic reactions and, as a consequence, emergency situations with potential damage to equipment and personnel. The developed product provides a radical solution to the problem, guaranteeing stable and reliable ignition, – said the responsible executor of the development, an expert of the Scientific and Educational Center “Digital Engineering of the Main Equipment of Chemical-Engineering Systems” of the St. Petersburg Polytechnical School Yuri Aristovich.

    The ignition device is a structurally and functionally unified device – a complex technical system in which all components are interconnected and jointly implement the function of igniting the combustible mixture. The device contains a housing, an oxidizer supply pipe and a combustible gas supply pipe, a spark plug, valves of the oxidizer supply pipe and the combustible gas supply pipe, an outlet pipe. The housing contains a cylindrical mixing chamber, the inputs of the oxidizer supply pipe and the combustible gas supply pipe are located in the part of the mixing chamber that is most distant from the outlet pipe.

    The oxidizer feed pipe is connected to the housing so as to feed the oxidizer in the tangential direction, and the combustible gas feed pipe is connected so as to feed the combustible gas in the radial direction. The inlet openings of the pipes in the housing are made so as to ensure critical gas outflow. The dimensions of the inlet openings are reasonably selected so that when the back pressure changes, the flow rates of the combustible gas and oxidizer change proportionally, the diameter of the outlet pipe is from 10 to 50% of the diameter of the mixing chamber. The technical result is an increase in the reliability of the device.

    The ignition device is designed to operate in a short-pulse mode. This ensures reliable ignition at low thermal loads in a wide range of pressures (from 1 to several tens of atmospheres). The device forms and directs small volumes of flame – fire ellipses of a certain size and at a given speed. Ignition charges ensure reliable ignition of the main burner, minimizing the thermal load on the outflow zone and the ignition device body, which significantly simplifies the reactor design and its startup procedure.

    The task of developing an igniter within the established deadlines seemed extremely difficult. Initially, it was assumed that the system would be implemented with a developed cooling infrastructure and multi-component thermal protection, which is due to the extremely high operating temperatures that significantly exceed the parameters of standard devices. The specifics of the reactor excluded the possibility of using serial solutions. Alternative options were considered, including the use of pyrotechnic cartridges, but this approach was recognized as suboptimal in terms of manufacturability and operational safety. As a result, an original, reliable and safe igniter was created that meets all the requirements. The developed device demonstrates high potential for use not only within the framework of this project, but also in other industries that require reliable systems for initiating processes in high temperatures and aggressive environments, added Nikolay Vasiliev, Chief Designer for Remotely Controlled and Transport and Technological Equipment at JSC TsKBM.

    Chief designer for the key scientific and technological development area of SPbPU “Systemic Digital Engineering”, director of the Advanced Engineering School of SPbPU “Digital Engineering” Alexey Borovkov spoke about the key success factor: “At the beginning of the work, none of the authors of the development could foresee the final result of creating a science-intensive and high-tech product. By combining the knowledge, experience and competencies of scientists, engineers and designers from various fields of knowledge and industries, we managed to form a unique multidisciplinary team and obtain impressive results. Of course, this is a logical result of the application of systemic digital engineering technologies, including the technology of developing digital twins, mathematical and computer modeling of non-stationary nonlinear physical-mechanical and physical-chemical processes of the behavior of a high-tech product.

    The development of a complex technical system is based on the effective application of the created multidisciplinary digital model [ 1, 2, 3 ], which is a system of interconnected mathematical and computer models describing combustion kinetics, chemical thermodynamics of free-radical reactions, dynamics of vortex flows at supercritical parameters of substances and non-stationary nonlinear thermomechanics. Numerous digital (virtual) tests and the necessary full-scale tests made it possible to carry out verification [ 1, 2 ] and validation [1, 2] developed models, to raise the level adequacy of models and descriptions of complex processes confirmed the efficiency and reliability of the developed high-tech product.

    With the help of approaches, technologies and methods of system digital engineering, the formed innovative scientific and technical groundwork and on the basis of the digital platform for the development and application of digital twins CML-Bench® [ 1, 2 ] our team implemented all stages of creating a finished industrial product in record time: development and design took only 2 months, manufacturing and testing – 3 months. It is fundamentally important to note that traditional approaches are not capable of ensuring such a high speed of implementation of science-intensive and high-tech projects for the development of complex technical systems.”

    In conclusion, we note that the results of the development of the ignition device have made a significant contribution to the formation of a scientific and technological reserve for the creation digital (virtual) testing ground for burner devices. The development of a digital test site is one of the most important final goals of a large-scale project to develop new generation burner devices for pyrolysis furnaces, implemented within the framework of the key scientific and technological direction (KNTD-1) of the development of SPbPU “Systemic Digital Engineering” within the framework of the “Priority-2030” program.

    The project within the framework of KNTN-1 provides for the definition of approaches to mathematical and computer modeling of new burner devices, development matrices requirements, target indicators and resource constraints, creation of a series of computer models of the prototype (primary, refined, detailed, optimized), conducting full-scale tests of a pilot industrial model of a burner device for validations computer model, development of design documentation and implementation into production.

    Let us recall that in June 2025, specialists from the Scientific and Educational Center “Digital Engineering of the Main Equipment of Chemical-Engineering Systems” of the SPbPU PISh presented This project and the Center’s expertise in developing burner devices at the Gazprom Neft site, one of the leaders in the oil and gas industry and petrochemical industry in Russia.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Rosneft Contributes to Study of Russia’s Wild Reindeer

    On August 2, Russia celebrates Reindeer Day, a holiday dedicated to reindeer and reindeer herding. Rosneft makes a significant contribution to the study and conservation of the population of these animals in the Russian Federation.

    Wild reindeer are a vital link in Arctic ecosystems. Since 2014, the company has been studying the reindeer population in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, in the territories of Evenkia and the Taimyr Peninsula. Large-scale ground and aerial surveys of the animals are conducted annually. Using satellite tags installed on the reindeer, scientists have tracked the annual migration cycle for the first time, and also identified seasonal behavior patterns.

    In 2025, as part of the Tamura corporate environmental program, a new research expedition to study wild reindeer was launched in Western Taimyr. Field work is being conducted by scientists from the Siberian Federal University (SFU). The first group of specialists will travel along the Khatanga River and the upper section of the Kheta River. The total length of the boat routes will be more than 700 km. The second part of the scientific expedition started from Norilsk. Scientists plan to travel by boat along the Pyasina, Dudypta, Tareya, and Pura rivers. Based on the results of the work, the number of reindeer in Western Taimyr and their migration routes will be determined.

    In 2024, as part of the Tamura program, scientists from SFU and Taimyr reserves also conducted a comprehensive census of the number and migration of animals to update data on the state of the Taimyr-Evenki population.

    For many years, the East Siberian Oil and Gas Company (ESOG, part of Rosneft) together with SFU have been implementing the Evenki Deer project. Scientists track the movements, numbers, and habitat characteristics of wild deer in the region. For people living in the taiga and tundra, deer are an important part of their everyday life and culture.

    VSNK also supports research into musk deer, a small deer-like animal rare for Evenkia that lives in Siberia and the Far East. Their secretive lifestyle and size (up to 70 cm at the withers) make them almost invisible. These even-toed ungulates are listed in the Red Book of several regions of Russia and the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature as a vulnerable species. Scientists have conducted work to find musk deer habitats in Evenkia. During the research, their presence was confirmed in an area that was previously considered unsuitable for this rare deer species, and the population size was estimated – it currently stands at 300 individuals.

    As part of the forest reindeer research with the support of RN-Uvatneftegaz (part of the Company’s oil production complex), scientists from the Tobolsk Scientific Station of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences carried out large-scale work in the Kunyaksky Reserve. Based on the results of aerial monitoring, which covered almost 60 thousand hectares, over 100 thousand images were obtained to clarify the reindeer population. The environmental program of RN-Uvatneftegaz is of great practical importance for the Tyumen Region – forest reindeer research has not been conducted in the region for more than 20 years.

    Thanks to the grant support of RN-Vankor (part of the oil production complex of NK Rosneft), SFU scientists have created a teaching aid, Wild Reindeer of Taimyr. The project is aimed at developing scientifically based strategies for the rational use and conservation of a key species-bioindicator of Arctic ecosystems. The aid systematizes extensive data obtained as a result of field and office studies.

    Rosneft pays special attention to environmental issues and biodiversity conservation, implementing the largest comprehensive Arctic region study program since Soviet times. The new Tamura research program, which started in 2024, is designed to update information on the state of key animal species living in the north of Krasnoyarsk Krai. The Tamura program includes studying the Kara subpopulation of polar bears, wild reindeer populations, valuable bird and fish species in the Yenisei estuary. Three expeditions to study the Kara subpopulation of polar bears have already taken place in 2025. In total, ten expeditions will be held in four years.

    HANOI, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) — Heavy rains have triggered floods and landslides in Vietnam’s northern Dien Bien Province, leaving two people dead and two missing, the Vietnamese Department of Dam Management and Disaster Prevention said on Friday.

    Heavy rains from Thursday evening into early Friday morning in Thiazin commune, Dien Bien province, caused houses to collapse, trapping two people and killing two others.

    Authorities also reported damage to at least 25 homes in the affected areas, local newspaper Tuoitsche reported.

    Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the region. Some areas are inaccessible due to landslides, which complicates the situation. –0–

  • India’s export loss due to higher US tariffs limited to 0.3 to 0.4 pc of GDP: Report

    The direct export loss from the higher US tariffs announced on Indian exports could be limited to around 0.3-0.4 per cent of its GDP as the country’s largely domestic-driven economy and its relatively low share of goods exports to the US should provide some cushion, according to a CareEdge Ratings report released on Friday.

    “Not only is India’s overall export dependence relatively low, but its merchandise export exposure to the US is also low at around 2 per cent of GDP, offering additional resilience,” the report contends.

    Moreover, India’s services exports remain outside the scope of these tariffs and should continue to support the external sector, the report states.

    The report also projects the current account deficit (CAD) to remain manageable at 0.9 per cent of GDP in FY26.

    Any diversification in India’s oil imports away from Russia is expected to have a minimal impact on India’s CAD, as the price differential between Russian Ural and the benchmark Brent Crude has significantly narrowed to around $3 per barrel from an average of $20 per barrel in 2023.

    India’s merchandise exports to the US stood at $87 billion in FY25. Electronic goods accounted for the largest share of exports at 17.6 per cent. This was followed by pharma products (11.8 per cent) and gems & jewellery (11.5 per cent).

    The US accounts for 37 per cent of India’s total electronic exports. Select items from this sector have been temporarily exempted from the 25 per cent US tariffs. Additionally, India’s pharma exports to the US (accounting for 35 per cent of India’s total pharma exports) have also been excluded from the tariffs, the report states.

    However, the overarching risk of sector-specific tariff action remains. India has one of the highest numbers of US FDA-approved manufacturing facilities catering to the generic medicine requirements of the US. While tariff uncertainties persist, the sector’s fundamental competitive advantages offer some resilience, the report observes.

    India’s relative tariff advantage for its exports to the US compared to several Asian peers, such as Vietnam, Indonesia, and South Korea, has effectively reversed following the 25 per cent US tariff, along with the possibility of an additional penalty linked to India’s trade ties with Russia, according to the report.

    However, India-US trade negotiations are expected to continue and could bring some relief. Still, India is likely to remain cautious about opening sensitive sectors such as agriculture and dairy, suggesting that the talks may take some time to conclude, the report said.

    Against this backdrop, it is too early to determine the clear winners and losers from the evolving tariff landscape. Volatility in global financial markets is likely to persist, and tariff-related developments will be critical to watch in the coming months, the report added.

    At the initiative of the student community, the Polytechnic University traditionally held the “Best Teacher through the Eyes of Students” competition from June 5 to July 12.

    The competition has been held at the university since 2021 and this year it celebrated a small anniversary – five years. As usual, students nominate teachers for participation in the competition who, from their point of view, best meet such approved criteria as “Personal interest in the subject”, “Openness to everything new”, “Pedagogical excellence”, “Culture of interaction with students”, “Commitment to the traditions of the Polytechnic University”, etc. However, this year, only graduating students who received their diplomas this year could vote for teachers. For each of the nine criteria of the competitive selection, the students had to nominate only one teacher.

    Perhaps the most important change in the rules of the competition was that student voting was transferred to the Telegram bot “Digital Pelican” of the Trade Union of Students of SPbPU.

    “We think it is important that our students have taken responsibility not only for developing the evaluation criteria for the competition, but also for its implementation,” noted Elena Zima, Director of the Education Quality Center. “This significant step in improving the competition procedure will increase the university students’ confidence in the competition results and their involvement, which will undoubtedly contribute to improving the overall culture of education quality at the Polytechnic.”

    494 Polytechnic graduates took part in the voting. The winners and prize winners were 10 teachers from seven institutes: GI, IBSiB, IKNK, IPMEiT, IFiM, IFKSiT, IE. All of them will receive cash prizes. The results of the competition are also taken into account in the rating of the faculty. The award ceremony for teachers will traditionally take place on Knowledge Day, September 1.

    BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) — China held a national video conference on the prevention and treatment of Chikungunya fever, a mosquito-borne viral disease, on Tuesday, calling for strong measures to combat it.

    The conference stressed the need to step up efforts to assess epidemic risks, resolutely protect people’s health and ensure overall economic and social stability, according to a statement posted on the website of China’s National Health Commission on Wednesday.

    The meeting decided on the need for monitoring and early warning of the disease in order to prevent its further spread and corresponding cases of imported infection.

    Particular attention was paid to efforts to improve sanitation and disinfection in high-risk areas, as well as evidence-based and effective measures to prevent and repel mosquito bites.

    Hospitals and health care facilities are urged to strengthen quality control of relevant tests and management of outpatient and emergency services to ensure early detection and appropriate treatment of the disease and to minimize possible severe cases or deaths.

    In addition, the video conference also emphasized the importance of thorough public health education and information dissemination to build people’s confidence in this fight.

    Chikungunya fever is an acute infectious disease caused by the virus of the same name, the clinical symptoms of which include fever, rash and joint pain. The virus is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes.

    From July 20 to 26, a total of 2,940 new locally transmitted cases were reported in Guangdong Province, southern China. The cases reported were mild, and no severe or fatal cases have been reported so far, according to the provincial disease control and prevention agency on Sunday. -0-

    As the deadline for tariffs neared, US President Donald Trump imposed the threatened tariff of 25 per cent on India starting Friday as the prolonged negotiations appeared to have stalled.

    His executive order, issued late Thursday, did not include penalty tariffs on buying Russian energy or for BRICS membership, which he had also threatened.

    When Trump initially threatened the 25 per cent tariff, India said it “will take all steps necessary to secure our national interest”.

    In the order setting the tariff rates for various countries, he claimed he was acting because “large and persistent annual US goods trade deficits constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and economy of the United States”.

    The 25 per cent tariff for India was higher than the rate ranging between 15 per cent and 19 per cent he imposed on most countries listed in the order.

    While India was one of the first countries to start negotiations with the US, the talks appeared to have foundered, and Trump made the threat of 25 per cent on Wednesday, but later that day, he held out a ray of hope, saying, “We’re talking to India now, we’ll see what happens”.

    He also did not issue a formal letter to India as he had to other countries.

    But it appears that last-minute negotiations did not lower the tariffs.

    While the negotiations were taking place, Trump repeatedly called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India his friends.

    August 1 2025 – Donald Trump’s sweeping new tariffs are not just reshaping global trade – they are accelerating the rise of a multipolar global economy.

    The shift away from a US-dominated system is no longer theoretical, it is active and accelerating.

    “Multipolarity now defines the direction of global trade,” says Nigel Green, CEO of deVere Group, one of the world’s largest independent financial advisory and asset management organizations.

    “These tariffs are forcing countries to rewire their trade, capital, and strategic priorities. The world is moving toward multiple centres of economic power and influence.”

    Effective August 7, the US will impose tariffs on nearly every major trading partner.

    Countries running a trade deficit with the US face a 15% floor. Canada has been hit with 35%. Brazil, 50%.

    India now faces a 25% rate, alongside a financial penalty for continuing energy and defence ties with Russia—despite being positioned by Trump as a close ally.

    “India’s inclusion shows how quickly partners can become pressure points. This pressure is already nudging New Delhi toward deeper cooperation with trade rival Beijing. The consequences will be long-term.”

    While trade deals with China and Mexico remain under negotiation, the broader international response is already unfolding.

    “Beijing, Moscow, and increasingly Delhi are coordinating more closely on trade, infrastructure and investment. Long-time allies like Switzerland and Taiwan are reassessing risk. Many governments are seeking to reduce exposure to Washington’s economic leverage altogether.

    “This isn’t a rerun of past trade disputes. It is a global shift away from reliance on the US as the central node. New trade networks are forming by necessity, not necessarily by preference.”

    Diplomatic talks with China have intensified in recent months, with meetings in Geneva, London and Stockholm.

    Beijing is focused on securing a continued freeze on US semiconductor export controls. Washington is demanding action on fentanyl, greater access for American firms, and increased Chinese purchases of US goods. But the real story lies beyond the negotiating table.

    “Tariffs are being baked in as permanent features of the new economic order. Countries are responding by building systems that can operate without US permission.”

    The US tariff list now stretches across continents. Switzerland faces 39%. South Africa, Libya, Algeria, Serbia, and several others between 30% and 41%. Taiwan, Israel, Pakistan, and Norway are all in the 15–20% range. The sweep is deliberate—and global.

    “Markets are adjusting. Capital is shifting. Supply chains are realigning around regional strength, not global scale.”

     

    Nigel Green continues: “The dollar remains dominant, but its influence is no longer unchallenged.

    “Central banks are pursuing alternatives. Reserve diversification is accelerating. Regional trading blocs are pushing forward with new payments infrastructure, less reliant on Washington’s rules.

    “This fragmentation is the new baseline. The post-war consensus on trade and financial cooperation is fading. What replaces it is a world of multiple economic power and influence centres, each with their own rules and reach.”

    Marat Khusnullin held a meeting on issues of socio-economic development of the DPR

    Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin made a working visit to the Donetsk People’s Republic. In Mariupol, he inspected the Portovik stadium, a new residential complex and a renovated courthouse, and held a meeting on the socio-economic development of the region.

    “The judicial system, especially for the development of the reunited regions, is of utmost importance. Therefore, on the instructions of the President, we have made a separate program together with the Supreme Court. And so, step by step, we are repairing and putting in order all such facilities, in order to create conditions for the integration of Donbass and Novorossiya into the legal field of the country, including with the help of infrastructure,” said Marat Khusnullin.

    The stadium reconstruction is almost complete: the football fields, running tracks, sports grounds and tennis court have been updated, and the martial arts, volleyball and basketball halls have been renovated.

    The new residential complex, which was built under the supervision of specialists from the Unified Customer in Construction, has 182 apartments with interior decoration, installed plumbing and kitchen furniture. Residents will begin receiving keys to them in the near future.

    During a meeting on issues of socio-economic development of the region, the Deputy Prime Minister heard the construction, financial, industrial, and agricultural blocks.

    “I can note that the region has good volumes of housing construction, and we are approving a full-fledged program for roads until 2030. Tax revenues to the regional budget are also at a good level. We will use these funds for additional needs of the region. We also discussed the implementation of the program for capital repairs of houses and restoration of public infrastructure, which is also being carried out under the control of the Territorial Development Fund. We separately discussed the extensive work to stabilize the water supply of the republic,” the Deputy Prime Minister added.

    At the end of his working visit, Marat Khusnullin, together with the management of the PPC “Territorial Development Fund”, checked the progress of work at one of the most important water supply facilities under construction for the DPR.

    “The 17-kilometer water pipeline for transferring water from the Pavlopil reservoir, together with the second such facility – for transferring from Uglegorsk – should lead to the replenishment of almost 40% of the resource. I have instructed to reduce the launch time of the facility, to speed up the delivery of equipment. The issue of water shortage in the DPR is acute, a comprehensive approach is needed to solve this problem,” said Marat Khusnullin.

    Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev took part in a conference call of Russian Railways dedicated to the upcoming Railway Worker’s Day (celebrated on August 3 in 2025) and presented state and departmental awards to distinguished employees of the company.

    Speaking to the participants of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed respect and gratitude to the veteran railway workers and recalled that 154 railway workers became Heroes of the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War, and another 127 became Heroes of Socialist Labor. He also thanked all workers in the industry for their tireless work and loyalty to their work.

    Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a federal law that enshrines the reduction of the terms for issuing licenses and permits, as well as a reduction in the number of documents required to obtain them. The corresponding amendments to 69 federal laws were prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia on the instructions of Deputy Chairman and Chief of Staff of the Government Dmitry Grigorenko.

    The signed federal law is the result of four years of work to reduce the time it takes to issue licenses, permits and the number of required documents, to transfer permits to electronic form and to make other simplifications for businesses and citizens. At the same time, the optimization of those government services that have shown positive results and for which it has been possible to obtain confirmation in practice that permits can be issued in a shorter time frame and with a smaller package of documents for the applicant is being consolidated.

    The optimization affected a number of key economic areas that are most in demand by businesses and citizens. These include, in particular, permitting regimes in the areas of transport, construction, nature management and environmental protection, industrial safety, education, communications, tourism, accreditation of legal entities, and many others.

    The law also permanently establishes a number of tools that have made it possible to optimize the process of obtaining licenses and permits and which will now be constantly applied in practice. For example, a comprehensive application. With its help, you can apply for several permits at once by submitting one application on the Unified State Services Portal. By the end of 2025, it is planned to implement about 20 comprehensive applications on the portal.

    In addition, the mechanisms of interdepartmental information exchange are enshrined in law, when at the stage of preparing applications to the permitting agency on the Unified Public Services portal the necessary information is automatically pulled up. And also the proactive mode of operation of the Unified Public Services portal: the portal systems will remind businesses and citizens about the need to extend permits and automatically send a pre-filled application for their registration.

    The process of optimizing the issuance of licenses and permits has allowed us to reduce the number of requested documents and the time required to obtain permits by half on average. In the future, it is planned to adopt more than 250 by-laws to implement the provisions set forth in the federal law.

    The Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation has prepared a report entitled “Monitoring Greenhouse Gas Emissions in APEC: Space Solutions.” The document is posted on the official website the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. The report reflects the key findings and recommendations of the international expert roundtable, which took place on March 14, 2025 under the auspices of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.

    The report is a systematic review of the practices of using satellite technologies in climate monitoring with an emphasis on the potential for their scaling in the Asia-Pacific region. The document collects key recommendations from international organizations. In particular, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), as well as the public sector, academic and business communities of APEC member economies, including Russia, Indonesia and Thailand.

    “Satellite technologies are becoming an integral element of climate architecture. Their use ensures the objectivity, efficiency and reproducibility of climate data, especially in conditions where traditional ground infrastructure is limited or unavailable. Russia is consistently developing a climate monitoring system that combines satellite, air and ground tracking methods with advanced computational models. Dialogue at the APEC platform allows us not only to develop high-quality international expertise, but also to strengthen trust between the economies of the region,” commented Evgeniya Drozhashchikh, Deputy Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.

    The materials of the round table present advanced solutions in the field of remote sensing of the Earth, methods of their integration into national greenhouse gas emission inventory systems, approaches to the unification of methodologies, as well as legal and technological aspects of climate data exchange.

    Given that APEC economies account for more than 60% of global CO2 emissions, the issue of creating a transparent and scientifically based monitoring system is becoming fundamental to achieving international climate goals. Satellite data allows not only to map emission hot spots, but also to track their dynamics in the long term.

    The prepared report will serve as a basis for further work by APEC economies to develop technological cooperation and introduce space solutions into national climate management systems.

    In the first half of the year, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) received 49 applications for registration of new and granting exclusive rights to already registered regional brands. This is almost 20% more than for the same period in 2024. Most applications were filed for food and agricultural products, as well as folk art and crafts.

    “Each region has its own unique culture and geographical specificity, and these features should be actively used to form its favorable image. The creation of regional brands based on geographical indications and names of places of origin of goods is not only a key tool for increasing the recognition of the region, its economic growth and social progress, but also a chance for local authorities and entrepreneurs to introduce a wide audience to traditional crafts and products made in the region,” said First Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Kolesnikov. He also added that such brands should contribute to the development of local production and support of local manufacturers.

    “Regional brands belong to the region where they are produced, so the same product under one brand can be produced by several different enterprises or companies. The main conditions here are the compliance of production with the necessary requirements and the registration of the enterprise in this region. This gives regions the opportunity for economic development. As a result, manufacturers enter the market with more confidence, maintain traditional production methods and expand them, and new jobs are created in the region,” said Rospatent Director Yuri Zubov.

    In the first six months of 2025, Rospatent received 49 applications for registration and granting the right to use regional brands, including one from abroad. Moreover, 32 applications relate to geographical indication (GI), and 17 to the name of the place of origin of goods (NMOG).

    If the production is entirely located in the region and the product has special properties, then it is a name of the place of origin of the product. If it is associated with a certain region or place by reputation, and part of the production is located outside the region, then it is a geographical indication.

    In 2025, the largest number of applications were received for goods in the category “Food and agricultural products” – 19. In the category “Folk arts and crafts” – 12 applications, “Mineral water” – nine, “Alcoholic products” – three, “Other goods” – five.

    Among the regions, Stavropol Krai has filed the most applications this year — seven. It has also been the leader in application activity over the past five years: since 2020, residents of Stavropol Krai have filed 73 applications for registration and/or granting an exclusive right to a state or national trademark.

    In the first six months of 2025, 14 new regional brands were registered with Rospatent, such as “Pleshkovskaya Igrushka” (Oryol Oblast), “Bashkirsky Palas” (Republic of Bashkortostan), “Decorative Stone Simbircite” (Ulyanovsk Oblast), and “Pechora Printed Gingerbread” (Pskov Oblast).
