  • India emerges as global leader in child immunization: zero-dose rate halves in one year

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

India has recorded a significant milestone in its national immunization efforts, with the percentage of zero-dose children—those who have not received a single vaccine—falling from 0.11% in 2023 to 0.06% in 2024. The achievement has been acknowledged in the 2024 report by the United Nations Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (UN IGME), positioning India as a global leader in child health and immunization.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in a statement issued on Saturday, attributed the progress to India’s robust Universal Immunization Programme (UIP), which provides free vaccines to 2.9 crore pregnant women and 2.6 crore infants annually. More than 1.3 crore immunization sessions are conducted across the country by healthcare workers, including ASHAs and ANMs, ensuring widespread vaccine outreach.

This progress has drawn global recognition, with India being awarded the prestigious *Measles and Rubella Champion Award* by The Measles and Rubella Partnership in March 2024 at a ceremony held in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes India’s sustained commitment to eliminating vaccine-preventable diseases.

In addition to reductions in zero-dose prevalence, India has also seen significant improvements in broader health outcomes. According to the United Nations Maternal Mortality Estimation Inter-Agency Group (UN-MMEIG), India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) declined to 80 per lakh live births in 2023—an 86% reduction since 1990, far outpacing the global decline of 48%. The country has also achieved a 78% decline in Under-Five Mortality Rate and a 70% decline in Neonatal Mortality Rate during the 1990–2023 period, compared to global reductions of 61% and 54%, respectively.

India’s UIP has undergone considerable expansion in the past decade. From just six vaccines in 2013, the program now covers 12 vaccine-preventable diseases, including the addition of Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (IPV), Rotavirus Vaccine, Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine, and Measles-Rubella Vaccine, among others.

The government’s intensified initiatives, such as *Mission Indradhanush*, have played a key role in reaching underserved populations. Since its launch in 2014—and with significant intensification in 2017—the campaign has vaccinated over 5.46 crore children and 1.32 crore pregnant women who were previously unreached or under-immunized.

A targeted *Zero Dose Implementation Plan 2024* is currently underway in 143 districts across 11 states, addressing vaccine coverage gaps among migratory populations, urban slums, and regions with persistent vaccine hesitancy. India has also maintained its polio-free status since 2014 through sustained Pulse Polio campaigns, and regularly organizes Village Health and Nutrition Days (VHNDs) for community-based immunization efforts.

Digital innovations like the *U-WIN platform* are being leveraged to track immunization data and prevent dropouts. Public engagement strategies—ranging from social media outreach to street plays—are being used to increase awareness and reduce vaccine hesitancy.

Data from the WHO-UNICEF Estimates of National Immunization Coverage (WUENIC) 2023 report shows India outperforming global averages across all antigens. The country’s DTP-1 (Pentavalent-1) coverage stands at 93%, significantly higher than Nigeria’s 70%. The dropout rate between DTP-1 and DTP-3 has also decreased sharply from 7% in 2013 to just 2% in 2023. Measles vaccine coverage improved from 83% to 93% over the same period.

The government emphasized that comparisons with other countries must consider India’s massive population base. While countries like Yemen (1.68%), Sudan (1.45%), and Nigeria (0.98%) continue to report high proportions of zero-dose children, India’s 0.06% rate, despite a far larger birth cohort, reflects substantial progress.

    Madam / Dear Sir,

Aadhaar Enabled Payment System – Due Diligence of AePS Touchpoint Operators

Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) is a payment system operated by National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) that facilitates interoperable transactions using Aadhaar enabled authentication. AePS plays a prominent role in enabling financial inclusion.

    2. In recent times, there have been reports of frauds perpetuated through AePS due to identity theft or compromise of customer credentials. To protect bank customers from such frauds, and to maintain trust and confidence in the safety and security of the system, a need is felt to enhance the robustness of AePS. Accordingly, as announced in Statement on Developmental and Regulatory Policies dated February 08, 2024, it has been decided to issue directions for streamlining the process for onboarding of AePS touchpoint operators and strengthening fraud risk management. Detailed instructions are placed in the Annex.

    3. These directions are issued under Section 18 read with Section 10(2) of the Payment and Settlement Systems (PSS) Act, 2007 (Act 51 of 2007) and shall come into effect from January 01, 2026.

    Yours faithfully,

  • MIL-OSI USA: Miller Participates in Ways and Means Health Hearing on Digital Health Data

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV)

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) participated in a Ways and Means Health subcommittee hearing discussing the benefits of wearable medical devices for rural patients and the challenges health care providers face adopting this technology. A video and transcript of the Congresswoman’s questions and provided responses can be found below.

Congresswoman Miller began by discussing the challenges rural patients face accessing medical care.

“The majority of my work in the health care space is focused on ensuring robust patient access to care, particularly for rural patients. In my district, many patients have to travel hours to see a physician or specialist. Additionally, 70 percent of people in West Virginia have at least one chronic disease. This leaves the vast majority of patients in my state with some tough decisions about how to manage their health care. Many patients often don’t seek care as much as they might need because of costs, lack of transportation, or an inability to take a day off of work to see a doctor.

Wearable devices seem to be a very good solution to some of these problems. If a patient can have a device tracking their vitals, glucose levels, or heart rate on their wrist or finger – they can have some peace of mind about their health. They also will have a better picture of when it might be time to get themselves to the doctor,” said Congresswoman Miller.

The Congresswoman then asked Dr. Holmes, Global Head of Human Performance at WHOOP, how wearable medical devices can help patients track their vitals and anticipate health conditions that would require medical intervention.

“Dr. Holmes, I’m sure you’ve worked with many patients to help them get the most out of your company’s technology. What are some of the benefits rural patients can see with wearable health devices and are the patients able to see and share that data from your device with their physician?” asked Congresswoman Carol Miller.

“Yes, we have mechanisms inside the app that allow for really easy sharing with your healthcare provider. I think one really good example is actually preterm pregnancy research we did with Dr. Sean Rowan at University of West Virginia Medical where we were able to actually identify a digital biomarker that can basically diagnose or alert to potential preterm birth. What’s happening physiologically is seven weeks prior to delivery, we were able to notice that there is a sharp increase in one of the metrics that we track, heart rate variability, and a sharp decrease in resting heart rate. Seven weeks prior to delivery, regardless of gestational age. So you can imagine a woman in rural West Virginia who sees this inflection point and can then at least call a doctor and say, ‘Hey, what’s going on here?’ So that was, I think, a really neat breakthrough on this. These data are published in Plus One and this, I think, was a really great example of how we can help, in this case, women specifically understand their bodies a bit better and use the data to get ahead of what could be a serious issue,” responded Dr. Holmes.

Congresswoman Miller then discussed privacy concerns associated with sharing personal medical information with a device company and what safeguards are in place to ensure confidentiality and data security.

“My constituents take their data privacy very seriously and I think patients being able to share their data with their physician is important, but many of them are reluctant to simply give their data to a device company. Mr. Zengilowski, what are some of the common misconceptions about data privacy with wearable technology and how do remote patient monitoring companies, which facilitate the exchange of information from the device to the providers, ensure patient data is protected?” asked Congresswoman Miller.

“Thank you for the question. I appreciate it and patient information security is paramount. So first, just to understand, there is a difference between a consumer wearable device and […] the medical grade, FDA cleared device used in a remote patient monitoring program. We, Coach Care, signed business associate agreements with all of the practices and hospitals that we work with, which make us a covered entity under HIPAA regulations, so we are required to follow HIPAA. I will share with you, CPT code 99454 reimburses for the technology for remote patient monitoring and the average Medicare reimbursement is approximately $45. We spend $10 per patient on security, on IT infrastructure security. So, just to give you a sense of what we’re investing to protect the patient data that we collect,” responded Mr. Zengilowski.

Congresswoman Miller concluded by discussing the possible benefits wearable medical devices could have in detecting fall risks for elderly patients.

“Another issue I take seriously is fall prevention and detection. In my state and the country, people are rapidly aging, and unintentional falls are a leading cause of injury and death among seniors. Many seniors don’t know that they’re at a fall risk and can suffer a fall. So, Dr. Holmes, do you think that wearable technology can help with this issue among seniors and what types of technologies exist to track balance or falls?” asked Congresswoman Miller.

“I think this whole conversation really needs to go back to prevention. We need to help seniors understand earlier what is going to prevent a fall. You know, we need to get […] I think the national conversation has to shift, right? A lot of the things that we’re talking about are absolutely preventable. We just need Americans to understand that they need to lift heavy weights. I, and it sounds so simple, but everything that we’re talking about here is democratically available and free. It doesn’t cost a dime, right? You can do body squats. Americans just need to understand that they have the power to take control of their own health. And so I think we need to get that information out there,” said Dr. Holmes.

Vladivostok, June 28 (Xinhua) — The air temperature in Vladivostok, the administrative center of Russia’s Primorsky Krai, reached a record 31.4 degrees Celsius on Friday, which was higher than the previous maximum for that date (exactly 30 degrees) recorded in 1970, RIA Novosti reported on Saturday, citing data from Primhydromet.

The temperature record was caused by the action of the Pacific anticyclone ridge, along the western periphery of which a very warm and dry air mass is carried.

According to weather forecasters, abnormally hot weather has persisted in Primorsky Krai since the beginning of the week, with average daily air temperatures exceeding the climatic norm by 7 degrees or more. –0–

ISTANBUL, June 28 (Xinhua) — Flights between Turkey and Iran partially resumed on Friday after a 15-day suspension due to the Iran-Israel conflict, Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdülkadir Uraloğlu said.

Flights from the eastern Iranian city of Mashhad to Istanbul operated by Iranian airlines will resume on Friday, he said. “This marks the partial resumption of air traffic between Turkey and Iran after a 15-day hiatus,” the official wrote on social media.

    A. Uraloglu added that the airspace over Tehran and Tabriz, located in western Iran, will remain closed until July 2.

The minister noted that talks are underway with Iranian authorities to give Turkish planes stuck in the country special permission to return. “Efforts are ongoing to fully normalize flights with Iran and return grounded planes to Turkey as soon as possible,” he said.

Earlier, A. Uraloglu said that seven Turkish airline planes were stuck in Iran as a result of the closure of airspace.

Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported that the Islamic Republic had delayed the full opening of its airspace until Saturday afternoon.

Iran closed its airspace on June 13 as Israel launched airstrikes on Tehran and other areas. The two sides reached a ceasefire on Tuesday after 12 days of conflict. –0–

  • MIL-OSI China: 4 giant pandas at western Japan zoo depart for China

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

Four giant pandas in the western Japanese prefecture of Wakayama departed for China on Saturday.

The giant pandas, 24-year-old Rauhin and her three daughters, eight-year-old Yuihin, six-year-old Saihin and four-year-old Fuhin, left Adventure World amusement park in the town of Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, for the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China’s Sichuan Province.

Early in the morning, park staff waved flags to bid farewell to the giant pandas, while many fans, wearing T-shirts with pictures of the four giant pandas on them, waited at the intersection outside the park to wave goodbye when the pandas’ transport truck passed by.

The zoo’s director Koji Imazu said in an interview with the media that although the giant pandas have left, the amusement park still hopes to retain the panda element as an important part of attracting visitors.

“I hope the giant pandas will continue to live a healthy and long life after returning to China and present themselves in good condition to the Chinese people and those who visit them from Japan in the future,” he said.

The zoo’s panda breeding team said the four pandas are currently in good condition and that the team has fully communicated with the staff who will take over their care in China about the characteristics and traits of each panda.

Adventure World began a joint breeding program with the Chinese panda research base in 1994.

According to the zoo operator, since the joint conservation project is set to expire in August this year, in order to reduce the physical burden on the giant pandas during transportation, the two sides have agreed to complete the transfer in June when the temperature is relatively cool.

Rauhin has entered old age and will enjoy her later years in a more well-equipped medical environment after returning to China. The young ones, meanwhile, are expected to take on the mission of breeding new lives.

  • MIL-OSI China: China loses to Italy at 2025 Volleyball Men’s Nations League

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

The Chinese men’s volleyball team lost 3-0 to 5th-ranked Italy at the 2025 Volleyball Men’s Nations League (VNL) Chicago leg on Friday.

China, ranked 24th in the world, briefly led 2-0 in the opening set, but Italy responded with four straight points during Alessandro Michieletto’s service rotation to take control. In the second set, Italy opened with a dominant 8-2 run. Although China managed to cut the deficit to 14-18, Michieletto’s successive service points and Daniele Lavia’s powerful spikes broke through China’s defense. The third set saw China edge ahead 5-3 early, but Italy soon widened the gap thanks to Gianluca Galassi’s blocking and Riccardo Sbertoli’s counterattacks, sealing the match with set scores of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-19.

“It is acceptable to play against the Italian team with such a result,” Chinese team opposite hitter Wen Zihua said. “Competing with high-level players allows us to learn a lot. We can improve significantly during the game.”

Outside hitter Wang Bin said he felt he had performed to his potential. “I really need opportunities like this to play and gain experience. It’s very important to me.”

“There’s a difference between result and how we play,” China’s Belgian head coach Vital Heynen said. “Italy is the world champion. They play with their best team. We choose to have a lot of players. We have a lot of small injuries to play with, a lot of young guys who never played against Italy. Then they were fighting good, but Italy is better. That’s no discussion.”

Heynen is satisfied with the way the Chinese players were fighting and playing. “Of course they make some mistakes, we can do better. But that’s why we try this kind of matches.”

“We were trying to fight, and the most important is that you play at your maximum, but you have to accept sometimes that other teams are better,” Heynen said.

With two more injuries from the match and only eight players available, “we have different idea than that we tried to win. Here was for learning and I was satisfied with it,” Heynen said.

The Chinese team has no competition scheduled on June 28 local time following three consecutive days of intense matches against the United States, Brazil, and Italy. When a reporter mentioned that the players could take a day off, Heynen replied earnestly, “we have a day to prepare. This is different.”

China is scheduled to face Canada on Sunday.

  • MIL-OSI NGOs: New wealth of top 1% surges by over $33.9 trillion since 2015 – enough to end poverty 22 times over, as Oxfam warns global development “abysmally off track” ahead of crunch talks

    Source: Oxfam –

    • Oxfam condemns “private finance takeover” of development efforts, as over 3.7 billion people remain in poverty ten years after the Sustainable Development Goals were agreed.

    • New Oxfam analysis unveils “astronomical rise in private wealth”. Between 1995 and 2023, global private wealth grew by $342 trillion – 8 times more than public wealth.

    • Oxfam analysis also shows governments are making the largest cuts to life-saving aid since aid records began. Aid cuts could cause 2.9 million more children and adults to die by 2030, from HIV/AIDS causes alone.
    • Results of a new global survey show 9 out of 10 people support paying for public services and climate action through taxing the super-rich.
    • Oxfam urges new strategic alliances to address inequality; urgently revitalize aid and tax the super-rich; and assert new “public-first” approach over private finance.

The world’s richest 1% increased their wealth by more than $33.9 trillion in real terms since 2015, reveals new Oxfam analysis ahead of the world’s largest development financing talks in a decade, in Seville, Spain. This is more than enough to eliminate annual poverty 22 times over at the World Bank’s highest poverty line of $8.30 a day. The wealth of just 3,000 billionaires has surged $6.5 trillion in real terms since 2015, and now comprises the equivalent of 14.6% of global GDP.

Oxfam’s new briefing paper, “From Private Profit to Public Power: Financing Development, Not Oligarchy”, launches today ahead of the June 30 fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, hosted by Spain and joined by over 190 countries.

Wealthy governments are making the largest cuts to life-saving development aid since aid records began in 1960. Oxfam analysis finds that G7 countries alone, who account for around three-quarters of all official aid, are cutting aid by 28% for 2026 compared to 2024. Whilst critical aid is cut, the debt crisis is bankrupting governments – 60% of low-income countries are at the edge of a debt crisis – with the poorest countries paying out far more to repay their rich creditors than they are able to spend on classrooms or clinics. Only 16% of the targets for the Global Goals are on track for 2030.

Oxfam’s new analysis examines the failures of a private investor-focused approach to funding development. A decade-long effort by major development actors to recast their mission as one of supporting powerful Global North financial actors has led in fact to a host of harms and at the same time only mobilized paltry sums. The analysis also looks at the role of private creditors, who now outpace bilateral lenders by five times and account for more than half the debt owed by low- and middle-income countries, in exacerbating the debt crisis with their refusal to negotiate and their punitive terms.

Seville is the first major gathering of countries worldwide at a time that life-saving aid is being decimated, a trade war has started, and multilateralism being fractured – all in the backdrop of the second Trump administration. There is glaring evidence that global development is desperately failing because – as the last decade shows – the interests of a very wealthy few are put over those of everyone else,” said Amitabh Behar, Executive Director of Oxfam International.

What the World Bank described as a “billions to trillions” paradigm shift has been a boon for wealthy investors the richest 1% own 43% of global assets but now faces overwhelming evidence of failure, even according to former champions. Alarmingly, there is new momentum behind the idea of diverting the little aid that remains to private financial actors.

Rich countries have put Wall Street in the driver’s seat of global development. It’s a global private finance takeover which has overrun the evidence-backed ways to tackle poverty through public investments and fair taxation. It is no wonder governments are abysmally off track, be it on fostering decent jobs, gender equality, or ending hunger. This much wealth concentration is choking efforts to end poverty”, said Behar.

New Oxfam analysis shows that between 1995 and 2023, global private wealth grew by $342 trillion – 8 times more than global public wealth, which grew by just $44 trillion. Global public wealth as a share of total wealth actually fell between 1995 and 2023.

Oxfam is urging governments to rally behind policy and political proposals that offer a change in course by tackling extreme inequality and transforming the development financing system:

    • New strategic alliances against inequality. Governments must band together in new coalitions to oppose extreme inequality. Countries such as Brazil, South Africa and Spain are offering leadership to do so internationally. A new ‘Global Alliance Against Inequality’ supported by Germany, Norway, Sierra Leone and others sets an example for nations to back.
    • Public-first approach – reject the Wall Street Consensus. Governments should reject private finance as the silver bullet to funding development. Instead, governments should invest in state-led development – to ensure universal high-quality healthcare, education and care services, and explore publicly-delivered goods in sectors from energy to transportation.
    • Total rethink of development financing – tax the ultra-rich, revitalize aid, reform debt architecture, and move beyond GDP indicators. Global North donors must urgently reverse catastrophic cuts to lifesaving aid and meet the 0.7% ODA target as minimum. Governments must back efforts for a new UN debt convention, and support the UN tax convention, building on Brazil’s G20 effort to tax high-net-worth-individuals.

“Trillions of dollars exist to meet the global goals, but they’re locked away in private accounts of the ultra-wealthy. It’s time we rejected the Wall Street Consensus and instead put the public in the driving seat. Governments should heed widespread demands to tax the rich – and match it with a vision to build public goods from healthcare to energy. It’s a hopeful sign that some governments are banding together to fight inequality – more should follow their lead, starting in Seville”, said Behar.

Oxfam’s media briefing note, “From Private Profit to Public Power: Financing Development, Not Oligarchy” can be downloaded here

Oxfam’s analysis of the historic cuts to development aid and their impact on the poorest can be found here. The modelling on HIV/AIDS deaths was published in the Lancet HIV.

The study that surveyed global opinion on taxing the super-rich was commissioned by Greenpeace and Oxfam International. The research was conducted by first party data company Dynata in May-June 2025, in Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Kenya, Italy, India, Mexico, the Philippines, South Africa, Spain, the UK and the US. The survey had approximately 1200 respondents per country, with a margin of error of +-2.83%. Together, these countries represent close to half the world’s population. See the results here.

The cost of ending poverty is based on the annual cost of ending poverty in 2024 for one year, for the over 3.7 billion people living below the $8.30 a day poverty line, according to World Bank data. The increase in wealth of the 1% since 2015 would be more than enough to meet this cost 22 times over. Another way of expressing this is that the total amount is more than enough to completely end poverty for 22 years. This is only indicative, as the cost of ending poverty would likely fall over the next 22 years anyway as the numbers living in poverty reduce, and the value of the wealth would increase as it would not be spent all at once. But nevertheless this comparison indicates the extent to which more wealth, which is being greatly concentrated in the hands of a few, could be directed to ending poverty instead of further inflating the fortunes of the richest. For further information on the calculations see the media briefing paper.

Oxfam will be hosting a major high-level event together with Club de Madrid, at 7pm on July 1, 2025, in Seville, joined by high-level government representatives on the media briefing note. Journalists are invited to attend and will be prioritized for questions. Please register here.

Moreover, an official side event on inequality and tax reform will take place at 2.30pm on July 1, 2025, at the FIBES Exhibition Centre room 20 joined by high-level government representatives from Brazil, Spain and South Africa, international organizations and global experts. See note here.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Davids Helps Introduce Key Reproductive Rights Bills on Three-Year Anniversary of Dobbs Decision

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sharice Davids (KS-3)

After Roe v. Wade was overturned, millions have lost access to reproductive health care and extreme Republicans are pushing even further.

Today, on the three-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, Representative Sharice Davids joined her colleagues to introduce two important bills aimed at restoring and protecting reproductive freedom nationwide. After Dobbs, Kansas became the first state to hold a vote on abortion access, overwhelmingly choosing to protect reproductive rights.

“Three years ago, the Supreme Court stripped away a constitutional right, and since then, we’ve seen the chaos and cruelty that decision unleashed,” said Davids. “Now, the president and extreme Republican politicians are doubling down with attacks on reproductive freedom, trying to control people’s personal medical decisions. I’m proud to help introduce these bills that fight back and put power back where it belongs — with patients and doctors, not politicians.”

Since the Dobbs decision, extreme Republicans have made it clear that their attacks on reproductive health care will continue. Just this month, President Trump revoked federal guidance requiring hospitals to provide emergency abortions when needed to save women’s lives. U.S. Speaker Mike Johnson supports a national abortion ban and banning IVF. And in Kansas, GOP politicians have introduced bills that could criminalize doctors, restrict birth control access, and attack the right to travel for care. These dangerous efforts demand a strong federal response.

The Women’s Health Protection Act would restore the nationwide right to access abortion care by creating a federal guarantee for providers to deliver, and patients to receive, reproductive health services — free from medically unnecessary state-level bans and restrictions. In the wake of the Dobbs decision, nearly half of women of reproductive age now live under abortion bans, with some forced to travel hundreds of miles for care.

The Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act would ensure no one can be punished or restricted from traveling to access lawful reproductive care. It also would protect those who assist patients and hold accountable any person who tries to block this constitutional right.

These efforts are part of Davids’ ongoing work to protect reproductive health care access and push back against dangerous efforts to criminalize patients and providers. So far this year, she has:

    • Voted against extreme legislation that would criminalize reproductive health providers and restrict access to lifesaving abortion care.
    • Introduced the Expanding Access to Family Planning Act, which would safeguard and increase federal support for the Title X program — the nation’s only dedicated source of funding for family planning and preventive health services.
    • Urged U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to immediately restore Title X funding to ensure access to essential care remains available across Kansas and the country.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sharice Davids (KS-3)

Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded the University of Kansas Medical Center’s Project Eagle, a Head Start project, with a new federal grant. The $5.68 million will be used to continue providing early education opportunities and family support services to children and families in Wyandotte County.

“Head Start programs are one of the smartest investments we can make — for our kids, our families, and our local economy,” said Davids. “They provide affordable early education and care that working parents can count on, help children build the skills they need to succeed, and create good-paying jobs for educators right here at home.”

“This grant will allow us to continue serving the extraordinary children and families of Wyandotte county through this grant,” said Lisa London, Director, Project Eagle. “With this support we can continue serving 299 children and families in Wyandotte county.”

Davids is committed to lowering costs for Kansas families and improving access to quality child care. Last year, she voted with both parties to expand the Child Tax Credit, benefiting 136,000 children in Kansas. She also toured a local child care facility and visited multiple Head Start programs to highlight how federal investments have supported the workforce and daily operations of local child care small businesses and education centers.

Davids also believes in putting money back in parents’ pockets, allowing Kansas families to make their own child care decisions. She introduced the bipartisanAffordable Childcare Act, which would allow Kansas families to save on high child care expenses and live more affordably.

    Background:

Project Eagle is a Head Start program under the University of Kansas Medical Center. It has offered services in Wyandotte County for more than 35 years. Their programs focus on the health and well-being of pregnant women and young children and aim to prepare children, engage families, and promote excellence in the broader field of early childhood education.

Head Start has helped more than 40 million children across the US since 1965. The program, serving certain children aged 0-5, is operated through home-based services, center-based services, or a combination of both. Head Start provides many long term-benefits to participating children. Students in early childhood education programs are less likely to repeat grades, are 25 percent more likely to graduate high school, and are four times more likely to complete a bachelor’s degree in comparison to non-Head Start students.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Davids Responds to Supreme Court Decision Undermining Women’s Health Care Access

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sharice Davids (KS-3)

Today, Representative Sharice Davids (KS-03) released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic (PPSAT) that allows states to block Medicaid patients from accessing health care services at Planned Parenthood:

“Today, the Supreme Court once again sided with politicians over patients — threatening access to birth control, cancer screenings, and other critical health care services through Planned Parenthood, which is sometimes the only place a woman can turn for this kind of care. A person’s health care decisions should be between them and their doctor, not politicians or extreme judges. It’s been almost three years since Kansans rejected these extremist attacks, but they’re still happening across the country — and the consequences are real. I’ll keep fighting to protect the personal freedoms Kansans voted to defend.”

    Background:

In the wake of the Dobbs decision, Kansas made national headlines as the first state to vote on abortion rights — resoundingly choosing to protect them. Yet, extreme politicians in Kansas have repeatedly tried to roll back access to reproductive health care. Just this year, Republican legislators introduced a near-total abortion ban and sought to criminalize abortion providers. The Kansas House even overrode Governor Laura Kelly’s veto of a bill that imposes new, unnecessary barriers for women seeking care.

Also, President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans are currently pushing a budget that cuts Medicaid and raises costs for families — while giving tax breaks to billionaires. It includes a provision that could further restrict abortion services, even in states like Kansas where it’s currently legal. That means millions could lose access to affordable, comprehensive health care.

Earlier this week, Davids helped introduce two key bills to restore and defend reproductive freedom nationwide, including the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would reinstate the federal right to access abortion care.

  • MIL-OSI USA: WATCH: Davids Hosts K-State Professor Emeritus During U.S. House Agriculture Committee Hearing

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sharice Davids (KS-3)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Representative Sharice Davids, Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit, helped lead a hearing on the U.S. Grain Standards Act (USGSA). The law helps farmers get a fair, consistent price for their crops, both at home and abroad. Davids invited Dr. Kevin Donnelly, Professor Emeritus of Agronomy at Kansas State University, to testify on the university’s nationally recognized grain science programs and the importance of renewing the USGSA to protect reliable, stable export markets.

“I am proud to introduce a Kansan to testify today,” said Davids. “Dr. Kevin Donnelly is an Emeritus Professor of Agronomy at Kansas State University and a farmer in central Kansas. During Dr. Donnelly’s 47-year teaching career, he taught college students about grain quality and grain grading using Federal Grain Inspection Service, known as FGIS, standards. He also conducts workshops illustrating FGIS grain inspection procedures for the International Grains Program at Kansas State University for industry professionals throughout the world.”

“I have long been interested in grain quality, probably stemming from my 4-H and FFA days when my projects involved crop production, and I started exhibiting grain samples at the county fair,” said Dr. Kevin Donnelly during his opening testimony. “As a college professor, I have integrated crop quality topics into several of my courses. We offer three unique degree programs in Grain Science at Kansas State… These programs produce graduates that typically enter industries with a vested interest in quality characteristics as end users of grain and oilseeds.”

WATCH: Davids and Dr. Donnelly speak on the importance of supporting Kansas producers

The USGSA makes sure that when farmers sell their grain — like wheat, corn, or soybeans — it’s measured and graded the same way across the country. That means buyers can trust what they’re getting, and farmers can get a fair price for their crops. The law also helps the U.S. compete in global markets by giving trading partners confidence in the quality of American grain. It’s a key part of keeping our food supply strong and our farm economy stable.

“Kansas is one of the top agricultural states in the country, and our farmers and ranchers feed not just the nation, but the world,” said Davids. “In 2023 alone, Kansas farmers exported $5.2 billion in agricultural products around the world. Whether it’s wheat, sorghum, or soybeans, Kansans know what it means to work hard and produce results. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I’ve made it a priority to support family farmers and strengthen our supply chains, because I know how vital they are to rural economies and to our global competitiveness.”

Dr. Donnelly is an Emeritus Professor of Agronomy at Kansas State University with a 47-year teaching career focused on grain quality and crop science. He taught hands-on courses in grain grading and coached competitive crops teams for 30 years. Dr. Donnelly has also led workshops for grain industry professionals from around the world through K-State’s International Grains Program and continues to support their work in retirement.

To support Kansas producers, Davids embarked on a Farm Bill listening tour, where she visited a poultry and livestock operation in Anderson County, a co-op in Franklin County, a goat farm in Miami County, an organic vegetable farm in Johnson County, and an educational community farm in Wyandotte County. Davids also toured a Garnett-based renewable ethanol producer, participated in FFA activities at Spring Hill High School, served a school lunch at Black Bob Elementary in Olathe, spoke with industry leaders on financial support programs for farmers, toured a dairy farm in Garnett, and more.

  • Early months of FY26 indicate resilient economy, outlook remains positive: Centre

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

High-frequency indicators for the first two months of FY26 indicate resilient performance of the domestic economy amid the heightened geopolitical situation, Finance Ministry’s ‘Monthly Economic Review for May 2025’ said on Friday, adding that overall, the outlook for the Indian economy remains positive.

The economy demonstrates resilience amid a turbulent global environment, supported by robust domestic demand, easing inflationary pressures, a resilient external sector, and a steady employment situation.

“The positive trajectory appears to be continuing in FY26, with initial high-frequency indicators (HFI) indicating that economic activity has remained resilient. HFIs such as e-way bill generation, fuel consumption, and PMI indices point to continued resilience,” the Economic Review noted.

Rural demand has strengthened further, supported by a healthy rabi harvest and a positive monsoon outlook. Urban consumption is being supported by increased leisure and business travel, as seen in the rise of air passenger traffic and hotel occupancy.

“However, there are signs of softening in areas like construction inputs and vehicle sales. Retail and food price inflation registered a sustained and broad-based decline in May 2025, driven by robust agricultural production and effective government interventions,” the Economic Review emphasised.

While domestic indicators have remained largely positive, financial markets experienced volatility as a result of external developments. The significant escalation of trade tensions in early 2025, followed by a partial de-escalation in the second quarter, contributed to considerable volatility in the financial markets.

However, the Indian government bond market exhibited stability and certainty in May, driven by factors such as the announcement of a record surplus dividend by the RBI and a robust growth reading of Q4 FY25. Consequently, the risk premium on India’s government bonds decreased to 182 basis points as of May 30.

On the external front, India’s total exports (merchandise and services) recorded a YoY growth rate of 2.8 per cent in May 2025, reflecting the resilience of our exports amid tariff uncertainties and subdued global economic conditions, said the Review.

As of June 13, foreign exchange reserves remain strong, standing at $699 billion, which provides an import cover of 11.5 months. Additionally, the Indian rupee has experienced moderate volatility, in contrast to the more pronounced adjustments observed in other economies.

The labour market indicators show signs of stability. White-collar hiring witnessed a rise in hiring with core sectors such as AI/ML professionals, Insurance, Real Estate, BPO/ITES, and Hospitality leading the hiring growth.

“The employment sub-indices of the PMI indicate strong employment growth, with the employment sub-indices reaching a high. Formal job creation is also on the rise, as indicated by the growing net payroll additions under the Employee Provident Fund Organisation,” the Review noted.

Steady economic performance in FY25 underscores the resilience of domestic growth drivers amid a challenging global environment. Robust private consumption and resilient services sector activity were key contributors to overall economic expansion.

“The positive momentum has been extended into the early months of FY26, as reflected in the performance of high-frequency indicators such as e-way bill generation, fuel consumption and PMI indices among others,” according to the Economic Review.

Yichang /China/, June 28 /Xinhua/ – The great, proud and wild Yangtze River, its energy has been “tamed” and used for good thanks to the many hydroelectric power plants on it. Among them, the most grandiose is the Sanxia /Three Gorges/ hydroelectric power station, the largest hydroelectric project in the world.

The Sanxia Dam is located in Yichang City, Hubei Province, Central China. Its construction began in late 1994 and was completed in 2009. The length of the Sanxia Dam is 2,309 m, the design mark is 185 m.

The Sanxia hydroelectric power station has 34 hydroelectric units and a generating capacity of 22.5 million kilowatts. Its design electricity generation capacity is 88.2 billion kWh per year.

The Sanxia hydropower station has set an example of combining the power of engineering with environmental care. As of December 2024, the Sanxia hydropower station has generated more than 1.7 trillion kWh of electricity, the amount of clean electricity equivalent to the electricity generated by more than 550 million tons of standard coal, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.49 billion tons and promoting the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and highly efficient energy system in China.

At the same time, the environmental situation of the Sanxia hydroelectric complex is also improving. As of the end of 2024, the daily wastewater treatment capacity of the reservoir has increased by 1.58 million tons. In the main zones, forest and grass coverage has expanded, and the forest cover has reached 50 percent, which has increased the ability to preserve soil and water.

China Electric Power Corporation Sanxia, as the world’s largest hydropower producer and a leader in clean energy in China, supports global energy transformation through the “Chinese technology, Chinese standards” scheme, said Qu Weihua, vice president of China Yangtze Power International of Sanxia Corporation. According to him, the installed generation capacity of the clean energy operator in China has exceeded 130 million kW. Sanxia Corporation is also developing operations in more than 20 countries, such as Pakistan, Peru, Brazil, etc. Its total installed capacity abroad has exceeded 20 million kW.

He noted that in the future, Sanxia Group will continue to deepen international cooperation so that China’s clean energy solutions can benefit more countries. –0–

Traralgon South Fire Brigade officially received a brand-new ultralight tanker on Saturday after their slip-on vehicle was stolen and destroyed by fire last year.

On July 31 July 2024, CFA was called to a car fire in Traralgon South. When firefighters arrived at their station, they discovered the station had been broken into and the brigade’s slip-on vehicle was missing.

The brigade alongside Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to the incident and found the burnt vehicle was the missing CFA vehicle.

Traralgon South Captain Pieter van der Leest said he would like to thank everyone who worked hard to get the brigade the replacement vehicle.

“We were pretty shocked and devastated that someone would break into the station and do that to a community asset,” he said.

“The replacement vehicle is a welcome addition to our brigade.

“We live in a very hilly area, and it is great for that sort of terrain. It is a great asset not just for the district but for the state as a whole as it is also able to go on strike teams.”

With improved lighting and stowage, the new ultralight comes with a 500 litres per minute diesel powered pump, a 550-litre water tank, a class A foam system, a permanently connected suction hose, and a live hose reel fitted with 30 meters of lightweight 19mm hose.

The lockers now have hinge-up doors for improved access and have been redesigned to give more room for personal gear as well as helmets.

Deputy Chief Officer for the south east region, Trevor Owen, said this ultralight would improve brigade capability and offer better outcomes for the community.

“The theft of the brigade’s slip-on was a low act, so it was extremely rewarding to help hand over this brand-new vehicle to the brigade,” he said.

“The new Ultralight really prioritises crew safety and comfort allowing them to focus on giving their best every time they are responding to an incident.

“It is now built on the new ANCAP five-rated, four-wheel drive next generation Ford Ranger with all the modern driver enhancements and safety features you would expect in a new vehicle.

“It has a 10-speed automatic transmission, and has an electric rewind for the live reel, making it easier to restow thereby reducing fatigue.

“I have no doubt this replacement vehicle will the see brigade well into the future.”

“As a strong pro-Israel Democrat, I remain hopeful that the mission U.S. servicemembers carried out last weekend will ultimately lead to the full dissolution of Iran’s nuclear facilities. I remain eternally grateful for our servicemembers’ bravery and service, and I’m particularly proud that most of the pilots involved in this mission are graduates of the Air Force Weapons School at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

While I am thankful Israel was able to reach a ceasefire with Iran and am hopeful that we are able to proceed with a diplomatic solution, I will continue to back Israel should it need to respond to a break in the agreement. Similarly, if there are any attacks on U.S. personnel in the region, the United States will always defend itself.

  • MIL-OSI NGOs: Greenpeace activists rebrand NZ bottom trawler ‘ocean killer’ on Chatham Rise

    Source: Greenpeace Statement –

Aotearoa – Greenpeace Aotearoa activists have confronted a bottom trawler off the East Coast of New Zealand, writing “ocean  killer” on the side of the ship, after bearing witness to it hauling in a net straining with marine life.

Launching from the Greenpeace vessel the Rainbow Warrior, activists came alongside the New Zealand-flagged vessel, Talley’s Amaltal Atlantis, on the Chatham Rise[1], an area of ocean floor to the east of New Zealand, and painted the message on its side using non-toxic paint. The vessel is owned by seafood group Talley’s.

Speaking from onboard the Rainbow Warrior, Greenpeace Aotearoa oceans campaigner Juan Parada says:

“Activists rebranded this Talley’s vessel today to expose the bottom trawling industry for what they are: ocean killers. When Talley’s drag their heavy trawl nets across the seafloor and over seamounts, they bulldoze everything in their path, including killing precious coral.

“Faced with a fishing industry that profits from trashing the ocean, and a government that condones bottom trawling, ocean defenders have taken peaceful action today to call out this destruction and demand that bottom trawling stop.

“The Amaltal Atlantis trawls extensively in the waters of Aotearoa and has previously received permits to trawl in the High Seas of the South Pacific. Their trail of destruction is wide and long-lasting,” says Parada.

Talley’s has a long history of carrying out bottom trawling destruction.  In 2018, the Amaltal Apollo trawled in a protected area on the Lord Howe Rise, in the international waters of the Tasman Sea. The Amaltal Mariner was convicted of trawling in a marine reserve off Kaikōura in 2019.

The at-sea action comes just months after a deep sea expedition led by Greenpeace Aotearoa documented whole swathes of destroyed coral in areas of the Tasman Sea that have been intensively trawled by New Zealand bottom trawlers. This area has been earmarked for one of the first high seas ocean sanctuaries, using the Global Ocean Treaty.

New Zealand is the only country still bottom trawling in the High Seas of Tasman.

Parada says, “As the rest of the world moves towards more comprehensive ocean protection for international waters, New Zealand is standing in the way of progress by continuing to advocate for the bottom trawling industry.”

“From depleted fish numbers to smashed coral, dead sharks and seabirds, the cost of bottom trawling is too high. To protect the ocean for the future and safeguard the ocean we all love, bottom trawling must stop.”

In response to the activist’s painting activity, Talley’s responded saying they would seek legal action which “may include the arrest of the Rainbow Warrior.”

    ENDS

Photos and videos from the at-sea action are available in the Greenpeace Media Library.

    Notes:

[1] The action took place in the Chatham Rise area, where it was recently revealed a New Zealand vessel dragged up six tonnes of coral in a single trawl.

The increase in the number of vehicles passing through the checkpoint after inspection was due to the launch of 24/7 customs clearance of goods in a test format on June 1.

Irkeshtam, China’s westernmost land border crossing, is located in Uqia County, Kyzylsu Kyrgyz Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The checkpoint was officially opened in May 2002. The road connects Irkeshtam, Kyrgyzstan’s Osh Region, Andijan and other logistics hubs.

Thus, Irkeshtam became the second Xinjiang checkpoint after Khorgos, where it was possible to ensure continuous operation in the area of customs clearance of goods.

The local customs service reported that the Chinese and Kyrgyz sides have established permanent contacts in order to ensure uninterrupted trade turnover. -0-

  • MIL-OSI USA: Cortez Masto, Rosen Announce Critical Funding for Nevada’s Vital Airports

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for Nevada Cortez Masto

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced that the Department of Transportation (DOT) awarded $50,611,106 in grants to international, regional, rural, and Tribal airports in the State of Nevada. This funding will allow airports to make necessary infrastructure improvements and support Nevada’s travel and tourism economy.

“I’m pleased to see this funding come into the Silver State to upgrade critical infrastructure of our airports.” said Senator Cortez Masto. “These improvements will protect the comfort and safety of all travelers, whether they’re coming to visit or returning home. I will continue to work in the Senate to support Nevada’s travel and tourism economy, and our aviation infrastructure, everywhere from Las Vegas to Elko.”

“Nevada’s airports are essential to our state’s tourism economy,” said Senator Rosen. “This funding will help modernize infrastructure, improve safety, and support the continued growth of communities across our state. I’ll keep working to bring federal investments back to Nevada and ensure our airports have the resources they need to thrive.”

A full breakdown of the funding can be found below:

    • $41,618,872 for the Harry Reid International Airport for runway, baggage handling, and drainage system improvements.
    • $7,625,625 for the Reno/Tahoe International Airport for their ongoing expansion.
    • $337,375 for the Winnemucca Municipal Airport for wind cone and signage installation and precision approach path indicator systems.
    • $305,000 for the Carson City Airport for repavement projects.
    • $219,621 for the Jackpot/Hayden Field/County of Elko Airport for runway rehabilitation.
    • $114,762 for the Mesquite Airport for service road reconstruction.
    • $109,830 for the Owyhee, NV/Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation Airport for construction of a new terminal.
    • $109,772 for the Battle Mountain/County of Lander Airport for construction of a new airport hangar.
    • $107,882 for the Minden-Tahoe/County of Douglas Airport for installation of new lighting to enhance safety.
    • $62,367 for the Hawthorne Industrial Airport to infrastructure for snow removal.

Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen have consistently worked to ensure Nevada receives its fair share of federal funding for its airports. They have secured millions in funding for clean transportation and improvements at Harry Reid International Airport and at Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Both Senators prioritized important airport terminal funding in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and also pushed to secure funds through the American Rescue Plan to support Nevada’s airports and airline workers through the pandemic’s economic crisis to the industry.
