Republicans’ Big, Ugly Law undercuts the promise of health care for the elderly and vulnerable, which Medicare and Medicaid were meant to fulfill.

RIVERSIDE, RI – TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI), member of the House Budget Committee, toured the East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) Family Health Care- Riverside to discuss with Medicaid providers how President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans’ Big, Ugly Law will devastate their ability to serve vulnerable Rhode Islanders. Amo met with EBCAP’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Lisa Denny and former Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sarah Fessler.

“For six decades, Medicaid and Medicare have provided essential, life-improving health care to Rhode Islanders,” said Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI). “Republicans’ Big, Ugly Law is poised to take health care from 47,000 Rhode Islanders and break the promise President Lyndon B. Johnson made 60 years ago today that our government would care for the elderly and vulnerable. Trump and Congressional Republicans’ decimation destabilizes our state’s entire health system. Today, the East Bay Community Action Program’s medical staff shared the immense challenges that Rhode Island’s health centers and their patients will face because of their new law. I won’t stop speaking out until we reverse Trump’s treacherous cuts, restore investment in Medicaid and Medicare, and ensure all Rhode Islanders have access to high-quality health care.”

“East Bay Community Action Program provides services and resources to more than 30,000 Rhode Islanders each year,” said Jesse Shipley, Chief Operation Officer, East Bay Community Health Program. “Any health care funding reductions passed into law put our East Bay residents at risk, add continued pressure to hospitals and the health care workforce, and can contribute to reductions in health care access across our state.”

On July 2, 2025, Amo took to the floor to urge adoption of an amendment to protect Medicaid and SNAP. Republicans stood in the way.

Amotook to the House Floor at 3:30 AM to hit back at Republicans’ original passage of the Big, Ugly Bill in the House on May 22, 2025, before he voted no.

On April 9, 2025, Amo slammed the Republican budget resolution on the House floor and shared the story of a Rhode Islander in the First Congressional District who would be hurt by Republican cuts.

On February 25, 2025, Amo took to the House Floor to slam the Republican budget resolution that threatens devastating cuts to critical programs.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Vice Ranking Member Amo Applauds Partnership to Deliver Humanitarian Aid, Blasts Trump’s Failure to Keep Aid Promises to Starving Kids and American Producers

Source: US Congressman Gabe Amo (Rhode Island 1st District)

PROVIDENCE, RI – Today, House Foreign Affairs Vice Ranking Member Gabe Amo (D-RI) thanked Edesia Nutrition and Ocean State Job Lot’s initiative in sending Rhode Island-made therapeutic food to aid severely malnourished children in South Sudan. Amo also called on President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to support American farmers and aid producers by delivering Edesia’s food aid to children and providing new contracts so Edesia can continue their essential work.

“Thanks to Ocean State Job Lot and Edesia Nutrition, working in coordination with World Vision, America can still answer the call when aid is needed. By partnering together, these organizations are filling the massive gap left by President Trump in delivering needed food assistance to children around the world. Rhode Island workers and businesses are meeting the moment while Donald Trump and the State Department sit on their hands, hide behind red tape, and refuse to take accountability for literally incinerating food. Children are starving. There is no excuse for Republican inaction,”  said Vice Ranking Member Amo (D-RI).“I have pressed Secretary Rubio and his State Department underlings repeatedly to resurrect America’s aid programs. I will keep fighting to ensure our government combats childhood malnutrition and supports American farmers by delivering and continuing to fund American-made therapeutic food.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) released the following statement on the ongoing situation in Gaza:

“The growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the famine unleashed upon children and families is horrific. People are being shot who are trying to get food. We need a full flow of aid and a ceasefire immediately. The war must end so we can save lives and return hostages home,” said Congressman Robert Garcia.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (Virginia 4th District)

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) issued the following statement after the Trump Administration abandoned ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas amidst an intensifying humanitarian crisis in Gaza:

“Every day, death and mass starvation take a greater toll on the people of Gaza. They face a humanitarian crisis that has cost thousands of lives and prolongs suffering in the region. This crisis is reaching an inflection point and deserves swift, immediate and continued action to avoid further loss of life and worsening conditions.

“Following the Biden-Harris Administration’s success in reaching a ceasefire agreement, the Trump Administration has utterly failed to meet this critical moment and secure a similar deal between Israel and Hamas. By walking away from negotiations and shifting focus to unnamed ‘alternative options,’ this Administration has abandoned a leadership role in facilitating a lasting peace to the region.

“I urge the Trump Administration to use every tool at its disposal to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas that releases the hostages, delivers desperately needed aid into Gaza, and develops a two-state solution that will allow both parties to coexist with dignity and self-determination. I have joined my colleagues in the House to urge the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and will continue to advocate for further relief to innocent civilians.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Valadao Joins Entire California GOP Delegation in Releasing a Statement on Governor Newsom’s Move to Overturn the Will of Voters

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman David G. Valadao (California)

Congressman Valadao Joins Entire California GOP Delegation in Releasing a Statement on Governor Newsom’s Move to Overturn the Will of Voters

Today, Congressman David Valadao (CA-22) released the following statement alongside the entire California Republican Congressional delegation following Governor Newsom’s press conference announcing his intent to disenfranchise California voters and overturn the independent redistricting commission.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman David Valadao (CA-22) released the following statement alongside the entire California Republican Congressional delegation following Governor Newsom’s press conference announcing his intent to disenfranchise California voters and overturn the independent redistricting commission:

“In 2010, California voters passed the VOTERS FIRST Act by over 20 points, giving the independent California Citizens Redistricting Commission the sole authority of drawing California’s congressional districts. Today Governor Newsom and California Democrats have announced that they will attempt to take power away from the Citizens Commission and place it back into the hands of Sacramento politicians to further the political agenda of Gavin Newsom.

The Commission received feedback from tens of thousands of Californians as to their communities of interest which shaped the current set of congressional districts. Districts that represent the local communities that they live in rather than the whims of one political party. A partisan political gerrymander is NOT what the voters of California want as they clearly stated when they passed the VOTERS FIRST Act and participated in the Citizens Redistricting Commission process.  As it stands, Republicans only hold nine congressional seats out of 52 despite winning 38% of the vote statewide.

It’s a shame that Governor Newsom and the radical Left in Sacramento are willing to spend $200 million on a statewide special election, while running a deficit of $20 billion, in order to silence the opposition in our state.

As a Delegation we will fight this disenfranchisement of California voters by whatever means necessary to ensure the will of the people continues to be reflected in redistricting and in our elections.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Kamlager-Dove Statement on Dire Humanitarian Situation in Gaza

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager California (37th District)

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove released the following statement on the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza:

“I am horrified by the escalating food and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the civilian population is facing starvation and over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed trying to access aid in recent months.

“Following the Netanyahu government’s decision to lift its aid blockade on Gaza in late May, it quickly became evident that the new Trump-backed aid distribution model is costing innocent lives, not saving them. While the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation may have been established to address concerns about aid diversion, reducing the number of aid distribution sites from 400 to four—and restricting essential assistance like medicine and malnutrition treatment—has only exacerbated the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“Let me be clear: food must never be weaponized. The current aid distribution model cannot meet the growing needs of Palestinian civilians. The U.S. must support a humanitarian aid delivery system that adheres to international standards and ensures Palestinian civilians receive the lifesaving assistance they need.

“Trump cannot claim to be the ‘President of Peace’ if this humanitarian catastrophe only continues to worsen on his watch. For the sake of both the U.S. and Israel’s national security—and our collective humanity—Trump must prioritize securing a ceasefire to end this horrific war, return the hostages, stop the suffering of the Palestinian people, and establish a pathway to lasting peace in the region.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Reps. Salinas and Barragán, Sens. Padilla and Gallego Introduce Mental Health for Latinos Act

Source: US Representative Andrea Salinas (OR-06)

Washington, D.C. – As the nation observes Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, Representatives Andrea Salinas (OR-06) and Nanette Barragán (CA-44) and U.S. Senators Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), introduced the Mental Health for Latinos Act, legislation to improve mental health outcomes among Latino and Hispanic communities.

Barriers to mental health care within Latino communities cause far too many individuals to suffer in silence. Only 47.4 percent of Hispanic adults ages 18 or older with any mental illness received services in 2023. Between 2010 and 2020, the suicide rate among male Hispanic adults (ages 20 to 64) increased by 35.7 percent, and the rate among women specifically increased by 40.6 percent. Even those who can access services rarely receive the effective, culturally competent care they need.

“As Co-Chair of the bipartisan Mental Health Caucus and a proud Latina, I know how crucial it is to end the stigma around mental health care and improve outcomes and access to care among Latino communities,” said Representative Salinas. “I’ve been on the other end of a phone call with someone who is having a mental health crisis. I see how important it is for people not only to have access to mental health care, but also to be able to get the culturally competent care that meets them where they are.”

“This legislation is a first step to breaking down the unique barriers that prevent our Latino communities from receiving the help they need. Mental health is a challenge that many Americans bear silently — but they shouldn’t have to,” said Representative Barragán. “Ensuring that our communities in need receive specialized resources and outreach will help break down cultural stigmas and language barriers that prevent Americans from accessing mental health care that is essential to their overall health and well-being.”

“No one should suffer in silence,” said Senator Padilla. “We need to break down the barriers that keep Latinos from getting the mental health care they need, when stigma and language access can make it even harder to ask for help. The Mental Health for Latinos Act would improve mental health outcomes by reducing stigma in the Latino community and encouraging people to reach out for help. As we tackle the rise in mental health challenges, it’s critical that we acknowledge the distinct needs of our diverse communities and develop solutions that meet people where they are.”

“Too many Latinos, especially men, shy away from seeking help because they’re afraid of being judged, and that only makes the problem worse. This issue is personal to me. This bill would help break the stigma around mental health and make it easier to get care from people who actually understand our community. I want everyone to know that they’re not alone and that getting help is not a weakness,” said Senator Gallego.

“APA is proud to support the Mental Health for Latinos Act of 2025,” said Arthur C. Evans Jr. PhD, CEO of the American Psychological Association. “By promoting mental health and reducing stigma in the Latino community, this legislation underscores APA’s mission to use psychological knowledge to improve the lives of all individuals.”

“Long-standing health care disparities within the Latino community are preventing countless individuals from receiving the timely, high-quality mental health care they need,” said Hannah Wesolowski, Chief Advocacy Officer at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). “The Mental Health for Latinos Act from Senator Padilla, Representative Salinas, Senator Gallego and Representative Barragan will help address these disparities and bring mental health resources to historically underserved communities.”

“The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention strongly supports the Mental Health for Latinos Act of 2025, which will advance health equity by addressing long-standing barriers to care and stigma that disproportionately impact Hispanic and Latino communities,” said Laurel Stine, J.D., M.A., Executive Vice President and Chief Policy and Advocacy Officer at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. “In 2023, Hispanic adults were 60% less likely to have received mental health treatment than non-Hispanic white adults. By promoting culturally and linguistically tailored outreach and education, this bill will help ensure that more individuals recognize the signs of mental health conditions and are connected to life-saving resources. It represents a meaningful step forward in our national effort to prevent suicide and expand access to mental health support for all communities.”

Informed and culturally competent resources, education materials, and outreach programs are vital to addressing the mental health crisis. The Mental Health for Latinos Act recognizes the unique mental health challenges of the Latino community, aiming to reduce cultural stigma and rectify health care disparities that prevent people from receiving lifesaving mental health services. As our nation confronts a worsening mental health crisis, this critical legislation reinforces the message that there is zero shame in asking for help and that seeking support is a sign of strength.

    Specifically, the bill would:

    • Require the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to develop and implement an outreach and education strategy to promote behavioral and mental health among the Latino and Hispanic populations that:
      • Meets diverse cultural and language needs and is developmentally and age-appropriate,
      • Increases awareness of symptoms of mental illnesses,
      • Provides information on evidence-based, culturally and linguistically appropriate adapted interventions and treatments,
      • Ensures full participation of community members, and
      • Uses a comprehensive public health approach to promoting behavioral health by focusing on the intersection between behavioral and physical health.
    • Require SAMHSA to report annually to Congress on the extent to which the strategy improved behavioral and mental health outcomes among these populations.

The Mental Health for Latinos Act is endorsed by organizations including American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Unidos US, American Mental Health Counselors Association, Inseparable, American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work, Psychotherapy Action Network (PsiAN), Global Alliance for Behavioral Health & Social Justice, American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP), American Group Psychotherapy Association, Epilepsy Foundation of America, National Council for Mental Wellbeing, the International Society for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (ISPN), Fountain House, and the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF).

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Pettersen Joins Call Demanding Answers from Federal Agencies on DOGE Cut

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Brittany Pettersen (Colorado 7th District)

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) joined a call to the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS), demanding answers about the impacts that mass firings, or reductions in force (RIFs), will have on casework processing for constituents.

Casework is a crucial service provided by congressional offices for constituents to raise their concerns with tax refunds, Social Security payments, passports, and other benefits that they are owed from federal agencies. After recent layoffs, congressional caseworkers are receiving bounce-back emails and no-replies from federal agencies leaving many cases delayed and unresolved.

“My office has heard from countless seniors, families, and small businesses who can’t get anyone at the IRS or Social Security Administration to pick up the phone,” said Rep. Pettersen. “Our seniors, communities, and families rely on Social Security to put a roof over their heads, pay for their medications, and for basic needs. Any issues with these benefits can impact people’s health, safety, and wellbeing. It’s unacceptable people have been unable to get a hold of anyone to help at these taxpayer-funded agencies. The reckless destruction of our federal workforce makes it so that people cannot get access to the benefits they rely on or get answers to their questions – I’m deeply worried about the reprehensible impact on our communities but especially on our seniors who live on a fixed income. We’re here to support them and advocate for them any way that we can.”

Earlier this year, the Social Security Agency rolled out its plan to cut an estimated 7,000 jobs nationwide, raising concerns about staffing and capability of disbursing retirement and disability benefits. Additionally, the Trump administration has pushed to cut as much as 50% of staff from the IRS. These deep staffing cuts threaten to delay or disrupt critical services, leaving seniors without timely access to their benefits and taxpayers without the support they need to navigate the system.

Rep. Pettersen joined 50+ House Democrats in letters to the IRS and SSA. The full text of the letter to the IRS can be found HERE and full text of the SSA can be HERE.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Cammack Introduces Truth in Women’s Healthcare Act

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL-03)

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Kat Cammack (FL-03) introduced a House Resolution reaffirming the importance of accurate medical information and guidance for the public, lawmakers and emergency department professionals, treating pregnant women and their unborn children, particularly in the cases involving miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy.

“No woman facing a medical emergency like a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy should be left in danger because of confusion or misinformation,” said Congresswoman Cammack. “This resolution is about reinforcing the importance of long established and clear guidance for doctors so that patients receive quality care and that the public is properly informed on what current law does—and does not—allow.”

    Background:

Last May, Congresswoman Cammack experienced a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy—a medical emergency in which the embryo implants outside the uterus and cannot survive. Her case, like thousands of others faced by women across the country, required immediate intervention to save her life.

After courageously sharing her experience in the Wall Street Journal, the Congresswoman became the target of vicious backlash. She, her unborn child, her family, and even her staff received an onslaught of death threats and harassment. This deeply personal and painful moment laid bare the consequences of today’s toxic political environment surrounding women’s healthcare.

More alarmingly, it revealed how reckless and dangerous the abortion lobby’s disinformation campaign has become—conflating emergency medical care for miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies with elective abortion in order to push a broader narrative. By weaponizing fear and misrepresenting facts, they are not only endangering the lives of patients but also silencing those who speak the truth. Not a single professional medical, health organization or state law regards treatment for miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies as abortion. Cammack’s experience underscores the urgent need for educating the general public, ensuring clarity in policy and civil discourse.

The Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, numerous pro-life and women’s advocacy organizations have also voiced their strong condemnation of the threats and harassment against the Congresswoman. Read their full statement here.

Launched in 2023, the Food Farmacy at the Akron Children’s Hospital provides healthy food options for both patients and staff. The lawmakers toured the facility and discussed the Caucus’s work to find bipartisan solutions to fight food insecurity and expand nutrition access for American families.

De La Cruz and Sykes concluded the day with a tour of the National First Ladies Library and Museum in Canton, Ohio. The museum exhibits American history through the eyes of America’s First Ladies. During the 119th Congress, the BWC is prioritizing efforts to create a lasting legacy to honor the inspiring women who have shaped history, including efforts to establish the American Women’s History Museum.

  • MIL-OSI USA: De La Cruz Introduces Bill to Strengthen HUD Whistleblower Protections

Source: United States House of Representatives – Monica De La Cruz (TX-15)

Housing and Insurance Subcommittee Vice Chair, Monica De La Cruz (TX-15), introduced the bipartisan Whistleblower Protection Act alongside Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05). The legislation ensures that all Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) contracts, particularly those pre-dating 2013, include whistleblower protections.

Whistleblowers play a crucial role in safeguarding taxpayer dollars. This bipartisan legislation will ensure that all current HUD contracts – regardless of when they were created – include provisions to protect employees who come forward to disclose waste, fraud, abuse, or mismanagement of federal funds.” – Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz

    Background:
Section 4712 strengthened whistleblower protections for federal contract employees. While the provisions were applied to new contracts, HUD contracts pre-dating 2013 were left without these key protections.

The Whistleblower Protection Act will require all contracts, regardless of when they were created, to include these key whistleblower protections. This critical change will protect employees of a HUD contractor, subcontractor, or grantee from retaliation for reporting waste, fraud, and abuse.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Pfluger, Lee Introduce Legislation to Reverse Biden-Era LNG Regulation

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11)

WASHINGTON, DC — As first reported in The Daily Caller, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) and Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) introduced legislation to reverse a misguided Biden-era regulation on American LNG Exports. The Cutting LNG Bunkering Red Tape Act codifies a Trump-era Department of Energy (DOE) order clarifying that ship-to-ship transfers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) used as marine fuel—commonly known as LNG bunkering—are not considered exports under Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act unless conducted in foreign waters.

“LNG exports unequivocally benefit our economy, domestic prices, national security, and partners and allies around the world that want our product. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration spent four years imposing one regulation after another on these exports, stifling the energy industry,” said Rep. Pfluger. “This legislation permanently reverses one of these misguided policies to ensure American LNG can compete on the global stage by removing regulatory uncertainty and streamlining its use as a cleaner, more efficient fuel source for maritime transportation. I am proud to lead this legislation with my good friend from Florida, Representative Laurel Lee.”

“The Biden Administration’s harmful energy policies have created unnecessary regulatory burdens that stall innovation and weaken American energy leadership,” said Rep. Lee. “Liquefied natural gas is a more efficient, cleaner, and cost-effective energy source. My bill ensures that LNG bunkering is not hindered by red tape, so that ports in Florida and across the nation can continue to expand, drive job creation, and compete globally.”

Read the full text of this legislation here.

    Background:

    ·     In December 2024, the Biden Administration issued a DOE order that asserted new oversight for LNG bunkering—transfers between ships in U.S. ports—subjecting it to burdensome federal regulations and requiring a public interest determination under the Natural Gas Act.

    ·     This policy disrupted domestic LNG markets and created unnecessary red tape for companies investing in LNG infrastructure and fuel options.

    ·     The Trump Administration later reversed the Biden-era interpretation, clarifying that LNG bunkering is not an export unless it occurs in foreign waters.

    ·     This bill codifies this Trump-era decision, ensuring long-term regulatory certainty and allowing the U.S. LNG market to continue growing without additional federal barriers.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Ciscomani Backs Legislation Advancing Tax Relief, Border Security

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Juan Ciscomani (Arizona)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, otherwise known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”:

“Today’s vote for H.R. 1, the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act,’ funds border security, strengthens our national defense, and stops the largest tax hike in U.S. history while instead delivering real tax relief for working families — including expanding the child tax credit, eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and tax relief for seniors, and giving families more flexibility to save for college and healthcare. It cracks down on fraud and abuse in Medicaid through common-sense work requirements and better eligibility checks, with no cuts to FMAP which would have endangered the access to care for many in need. These steps help ensure that we protect Medicaid’s solvency so that it continues to serve our most vulnerable. And while there was a change regarding provider taxes, our rural and urban low-income serving hospitals will now have access to a new $50 billion hospital fund.

“I am grateful to the many stakeholders across our district who shared their expertise, personal stories, and insights over the last few months as we worked through the reconciliation process. H.R. 1 is not perfect – no bill ever is. But it includes many provisions that I know my constituents in southeastern Arizona support. There is more work to do, and I look forward to continuing to work together for our district and community.”

    Background
The following are key provisions of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act:

    TAX CUTS

    • H.R. 1 delivers the largest middle- and working-class tax cut in U.S. history by extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. If the 2017 Tax Cuts were left to expire:
      • The average taxpayer in AZ-06 would see a 24% tax hike
      • A family of 4 making $73,464, the median income in AZ-06, would see a $1,480 tax increase
      • 80,270 AZ-06 families would see their household’s child tax credits cut in half
      • 89% of AZ-06 taxpayers would see their Guaranteed Deduction slashed in half
      • 81,320 small businesses in AZ-06 would be hit with a 43.4% tax rate if the 199A Small Business Deduction expires
      • 8,216 AZ-06 taxpayers would be impacted by the return of the Alternative Minimum Tax
      • 1,545 family-owned farms in AZ-06 would have their Death Tax Exemption slashed in half next year
    • The bill also provides additional tax relief to American families, seniors, small businesses, and workers through:
      • No tax on tips
      • No tax on overtime
      • No tax on car loan interests for American made cars
      • Ensuring 88% of all seniors who receive Social Security will pay NO TAX on their Social Security benefits
      • Repealing the unpopular 1099-K reporting requirement that all Venmo, PayPal, and gig transactions over $600 be reported to the IRS
      • Incentivizing businesses to produce their goods in the U.S.

    BORDER SECURITY

    • The bill makes historic investments in border security through the following provisions:
Adds 3,000 new U.S. Border Patrol agents, 5,000 new Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers, and 200 new Air and Marine Operations (AMO) agents, and 290 support staff
    • Allocates more than $46 billion to construct and complete the border barrier system by building 701 miles of primary wall, 900 miles of river barriers, 629 miles of secondary barriers, as well as replacing 141 miles of vehicle and pedestrian barriers
    • Includes more than $6 billion to help CBP interdict more fentanyl, deploy more border-surveillance technology, enhance AMO’s surveillance capabilities, and increase CBP’s use of the biometric entry and exit system

    NATIONAL SECURITY

    • Additionally, the bill invests $150 billion into our national security by restoring American deterrence, revitalizing our defense industrial base, and modernizing our military through provisions like:
Jump starting the Golden Dome initiative by investing $25 million in a layered missile defense shield.
    • Provides critical resources to the Department of Defense to support securing the southern border, because border security is national security
    • Investing $9 billion to improve the quality of life for our troops by increasing allowances and special pays, and to renovate aging, moldy barracks and dorms.

  • MIL-OSI USA: HARSHBARGER: President Trump is Proving Nay Sayers Wrong AGAIN

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger (TN-01) issued the following statement applauding President Donald J. Trump for securing two groundbreaking trade agreements with Indonesia and Japan yesterday:

“President Trump just delivered two major trade victories for America. While Democrats have been sowing discord crying about economic disaster, President Trump was doing what he does best, negotiating from strength and putting America first. These deals with Japan and Indonesia are just the beginning of America’s comeback to supercharge our economy and create new jobs. From farmers and cattle producers to auto suppliers and manufacturers, this is the kind of bold, America-first policy that makes a real difference in places like East Tennessee.” – Congresswoman Harshbarger

    BACKGROUND:

Under these agreements, Indonesia will eliminate 99% of its tariffs on American industrial, tech, and agricultural goods, while Japan is investing $550 billion into the U.S. economy, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs. American-made cars, trucks, rice, beef, critical minerals, and energy will now compete on a level playing field in Indonesia and Japan.

Tennessee’s First Congressional District is uniquely positioned to benefit from these historic agreements. With a strong base of advanced manufacturing, agricultural production, and exports, the region is now better positioned to reach high-demand markets abroad. Local manufacturers will see new opportunities to export auto parts and precision equipment as barriers come down in Indonesia’s rapidly growing economy.

At the same time, Northeast Tennessee’s agriculture industry will gain access to tens of millions of new consumers in both Japan and Indonesia thanks to reduced tariffs and expanded agricultural quotas. Japan’s $550 billion investment in the U.S. and Indonesia’s new mineral supply agreements also means long-term growth for Tennessee’s industrial sector and supply chains.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Alford Applauds USDA Reorganization Plan, Selection of Kansas City as Hub

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mark Alford (Missouri 4th District)

Today, Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a reorganization plan that includes making Kansas City, Missouri a new staffing and services hub for the

“We applaud Agriculture Secretary Rollins bold reorganization plan, which will bring the USDA closer to the farmers and ranchers it serves,” said Congressman Alford. With more than 87,000 farms, Missouri is an excellent choice as a new hub for agency staff and services. With costly deferred maintenance and low occupancy rates, the USDA’s headquarters and other offices in the DC area have become an onerous burden on American taxpayers. Our office has long advocated for decentralizing federal agencies from the USDA to the Small Business Administration. The Kansas City Metro Area is proud to welcome the Agriculture Department.”

Congressman Alford has been a longtime advocate for the decentralization of federal agencies, including USDA. As a member of the Agriculture Committee in the 118th Congress, he specifically pushed for this action. Now, as a member of the Appropriations Committee he has oversight of the USDA’s budget.

Additional background courtesy of the USDA:

The Department currently has approximately 4,600 employees within the National Capital Region (NCR). This Region has one of the highest costs of living in the country, with a federal salary locality rate of 33.94%. In selecting its hub locations, USDA considered where existing concentrations of USDA employees are located and factored in the cost of living. Washington, D.C. will still hold functions for every mission area of USDA at the conclusion of this reorganization, but USDA expects no more than 2,000 employees will remain in the NCR.

USDA will vacate and return to the General Services Administration the South Building, Braddock Place, and the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, and revisit utilization and functions in the USDA Whitten Building, Yates Building, and the National Agricultural Library. The George Washington Carver Center will also be utilized until space optimization activities are completed. These buildings have a backlog of costly deferred maintenance and currently are occupied below the minimum set by law. For example, the South Building has approximately $1.3 billion in deferred maintenance and has an average daily occupancy of less than 1,900 individuals for a building that can house over 6,000 employees.

Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) introduced the Leading Exports of Aerial Drones (LEAD) Act of 2025, legislation to make it easier for American manufacturers to export unmanned aerial systems (UAS), also known as drones, to our allies and partners. Senators Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), Chris Coons (D-Delaware), and John Cornyn (R-Texas) introduced companion legislation in the Senate.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL-03)

Washington, D.C. — Washington, D.C. — Today, the Co-Chairs of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus—Representatives Kat Cammack (R-FL), Michelle Fischbach (R-MN), Andy Harris (R-MD), Bob Onder (R-MO), and Chris Smith (R-NJ)—released the following statement:

“The death threats directed at Congresswoman Kat Cammack, her unborn child, her family, and her staff are unacceptable. These threats followed the Wall Street Journal profile which detailed her personal experience with a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy—an experience that should spark compassion, not hatred.

This response exposed just how reckless and dangerous the abortion lobby’s disinformation campaign has become.

Let’s be clear: not a single major medical organization—including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the Mayo Clinic, and the Cleveland Clinic—considers treatment for ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage to be elective abortion. These are life-threatening emergencies that require medical intervention.

It is intentionally deceptive to refuse to distinguish between elective procedures that terminate an unborn life and lifesaving care. Miscarriage is not elective. Treating a rupturing ectopic pregnancy is not a choice—it is a medical necessity. No woman should be denied life-saving care because a doctor or hospital fears legal or political consequences.

The Pro-Life Caucus is working alongside women’s health advocates, medical professionals, and bipartisan lawmakers to deliver clear, compassionate policy. Our goal is simple: protect life, defend truth, and ensure every woman gets the care she deserves.”

We are inspired and grateful that numerous pro-life and women’s advocacy organizations have also voiced their strong condemnation of these threats and stand in support of Congresswoman Cammack and the Pro-Life Caucus’ efforts to advance legislation that protects women’s healthcare, safeguards unborn lives, and upholds the truth.

“SBA Pro-Life America stands with Representative Kat Cammack and the House Pro-Life Caucus against anyone who intentionally confuses doctors about whether treatment for ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage is allowed under pro-life laws. Make no mistake — every state protects women in a medical emergency such as ectopic pregnancy, and the federal Emergency Medical Treatment And Labor Act (EMTALA) ensures that pregnant women and their unborn children receive appropriate care in the emergency room,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of SBA Pro-Life America. “We rejoice with Rep. Cammack as she anticipates the birth of her child, and we condemn all threats against her and her family. We are grateful to Representative Cammack for sharing her story and turning her bad experience into an opportunity to educate medical professionals and the public so that women and the babies get the best possible healthcare.”

“Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) stands with Congresswoman Cammack as she faces violent threats from the pro-abortion left,” said Penny Nancy, President and CEO, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee. “These threats are a direct result of a culture that has forgotten the value of human life, and we lament that Congresswoman Cammack is facing threats born from lies. CWALAC applauds Congresswoman Cammack for speaking truth about the pro-abortion narrative.”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Laurel Lee – Florida (15th District)

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) and Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) introduced the Cutting LNG Bunkering Red Tape Act, a bill that codifies a Trump-era Department of Energy (DOE) order clarifying that ship-to-ship transfers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) used as marine fuel—commonly known as LNG bunkering—are not considered exports under Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act unless conducted in foreign waters. The bill is referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

“The Biden Administration’s harmful energy policies have created unnecessary regulatory burdens that stall innovation and weaken American energy leadership,”said Rep. Lee. “Liquefied natural gas is a more efficient, cleaner, and cost-effective energy source. My bill ensures that LNG bunkering is not hindered by red tape, so that ports in Florida and across the nation can continue to expand, drive job creation, and compete globally.”

“LNG exports unequivocally benefit our economy, domestic prices, national security, and partners and allies around the world that want our product. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration spent four years imposing one regulation after another on these exports, stifling the energy industry,” said Rep. Pfluger. “This legislation permanently reverses one of these misguided policies to ensure American LNG can compete on the global stage by removing regulatory uncertainty and streamlining the use of it as a cleaner, more efficient fuel source for maritime transportation. I am proud to lead this legislation with my good friend from Florida, Representative Laurel Lee.”

     Background:

During the Biden Administration, DOE issued an order treating certain domestic LNG ship-to-ship transfers as exports, subjecting them to extensive federal regulation and public interest review. In contrast, President Trump reversed this position, rightly determining that LNG bunkering within U.S. waters should not be treated as an export. Rep. Lee’s legislation would cement this clarification in federal law.

Florida is a major hub for marine transportation, including cruise ships and other vessels, increasingly turning to LNG as a clean and modern fuel source. JAX LNG, based in Jacksonville, has been a national leader in LNG bunkering, but has faced unnecessary regulatory hurdles due to shifting federal interpretations

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Eric Sorensen Secures Major Wins for Rock Island Arsenal and IL-17 in National Defense Bill

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17)

WATCH: Sorensen remarks on Rock Island Arsenal during House Armed Services Committee

Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) is proud to announce major victories for the Rock Island Arsenal and communities across Illinois’ 17th Congressional District in this year’s national defense legislation, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). These wins will protect local jobs, expand benefits for servicemembers, and invest in key infrastructure and research in Central and Northwestern Illinois.

“These investments reflect our values—supporting those who serve, building strong communities, and creating opportunities right here at home,” said Congressman Eric Sorensen. “We’re strengthening the Rock Island Arsenal, supporting our National Guard and military families, and ensuring our local institutions like Bradley University continue to lead in innovation.”

Key wins for IL-17 and the Rock Island Arsenal include:

    • Congressman Sorensen’s Arsenal Workload Sustainment Act, which incentivizes private industry to partner with arsenals by giving preference to public-private partnerships in Army contracting, creating a more predictable, sustained workload to protect and create jobs.

    • The bill bans the Army’s funding to restructure the Rock Island Arsenal’s Army Sustainment Command (ASC) and Joint Munitions Command (JMC), until they provide a plan that includes a timeline and information about any job cuts and the impact to our readiness.

    • The Army will be required to provide more information about upcoming changes tied to its Army Transformation Initiative—ensuring communities like those around the Rock Island Arsenal are informed and prepared.

    • The bill authorizes funding for ongoing projects at Rock Island Arsenal and Bradley University, modernizing this vital defense facility and supporting research opportunities.

    • It blocks funding from being used to enforce President Trump’s ban on collective bargaining for DOD workers, directly supporting the rights of our union workers at the Rock Island Arsenal.

    • The Department of Defense is directed to explore public-private partnerships at arsenals and other key military industrial sites, opening the door to local innovation and economic growth.

    • The bill ensures the Air Force maintains at least 271 C-130 aircraft, preserving critical operations tied to the 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria.

Big wins that benefit our servicemembers and communities include:

    • 3.8% pay raises for all military personnel

    • Authorizes funding for new and improved barracks, dormitories, child development centers, and family housing

    • All National Guard members will have fees and copays waived under the TRICARE Dental Program—making it easier and more affordable for them to get the care they need.

    • Stronger alliances and partnerships to keep our country safe and promote peace

Congressman Sorensen also introduced an amendment to codify the current exemptions to the hiring freeze to ensure the Rock Island Arsenal can hire new workers, but it was blocked by Republicans.

The House Armed Services Committee approved the bill with a vote of 55-2. The bill now heads to the House floor where it will be considered in the coming weeks.

  • MIL-OSI USA: ICYMI: Congressman Sorensen Demands Accountability in Aftermath of Texas Floods

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17)

Last week, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) continued to lead Democrats in sounding the alarm over cuts in funding to the National Weather Service in the wake of the deadly Texas floods. On Friday, he led a letter with Representatives Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) and Lloyd Doggett (TX-37) demanding answers from President Trump on why hundreds of Americans were unprepared to evacuate from the flash floods.

MSNBC: All in with Chris Hayes: Congressman Sorensen calls for a NTSB for weather in aftermath of deadly flash flooding in Texas

    •  Congressman Sorensen: “We need a NTSB just for weather. We need to understand how the meteorology was disseminated to the people. Were they able to react to it? Where they able to get to a higher ground? We have to understand all of the facets here so that we make better decisions in the future. Because we know these storms have had huge floods on the Guadalupe River in the 1970s, in 2002, and now in 2025.”

NBC News NOW: Meet the Press NOW: Need to ‘invest’ in NWS so Texas disaster is ‘a thing of the past’: Congressman & fmr. meteorologist

    • Congressman Sorensen: “We have to invest in the National Weather Service. We have to get President Trump to understand that investing in the National Weather Service – making sure we have more accurate weather models – could maybe make these types of disasters a thing of the past.”

    • Congressman Sorensen: “Also going forward, we need to make sure there is a commitment from the Administration that the National Weather Service is just that – it is a service. We take it for granted that our phones are going to off in the middle of the night when the tornado warning or the flash flood warning is issued. But we need to know when that happens that there is going to be a way for us to escape.”

Center Square: Illinois congressman pushes for NWS funding as Trump’s budget faces scrutiny

    • Illinois U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen, D-Rockford, a former meteorologist, said he and others are pushing bipartisan legislation to strengthen NWS operations and staffing, warning that shortfalls may be putting lives at risk.

    • Sorensen stressed the need for stronger communication tools, warning systems and a long-term investment in the agency’s capabilities.

NBC News: Bipartisan support picks up for a natural disaster review board

    • In an email to NBC News, Congress’ only meteorologist, Rep. Eric Sorensen, D-Ill., said he was working with colleagues to create an NTSB-styled program to investigate deadly storms.

    • “It would be amazing if meteorologists could have access to investigative reports that help us to figure out what — if anything — went wrong and what we can do in the future to be better,” Sorensen said, adding that “clearly the tragic floods in Texas would benefit from such a report.”

The Hill: House Democrats call for ‘urgent review’ of deadly Texas flooding

    • Three House Democrats sent a letter to President Trump and two officials involved in weather infrastructure Friday expressing concerns about the government’s preparedness for future flood disasters and extreme weather events.

    • “This tragedy echoes a troubling national pattern of accelerating flash flood disasters that have claimed lives: 46 lives in the greater New York City area in September 2021, 345 lives in Kentucky in July 2022, 20 lives in Tennessee in August 2021, and 250 lives across the Southeast in September 2024,” Democratic Reps. Lloyd Doggett (Texas), Marcy Kaptur (Ohio) and Eric Sorensen (Ill.) wrote.

    • The lawmakers expressed concern about whether the Department of Government Efficiency-driven staff reductions at the National Weather Service delayed warnings about the Texas floods, which have claimed at least 120 lives. The New York Times reported the vacancies may have complicated efforts to coordinate with local officials and that some of the unfilled positions predate the Trump administration.

As the only meteorologist in Congress, Congressman Sorensen has been a fierce advocate for protecting and strengthening NOAA and the NWS from cuts. Starting last year, he has been warning about the impact of Project 2025’s plans to dismantle and privatize NOAA and the NWS. As the Department of Government Efficiency began making cuts to the agencies, Congressman Sorensen has been speaking out, introducing legislation, and calling on the Administration to bring a stop to the disastrous cuts. He recently introduced the Weather Workforce Improvement Act to help the NWS fully staff critical positions at their offices and the Rural Weather Monitoring Systems Act to help strengthen weather forecasting in rural America.

“When parents send their kids to school, they want to know they are going to return home safely,” said Congressman Sorensen. “We can make our schools and communities safer by equipping our teachers with the tools they need to raise awareness about keeping kids safe, preventing drug abuse, and eliminating violence among students. Too many of our neighbors across Central and Northwestern Illinois have lost a loved one to violence or addiction, and this bipartisan legislation will help put a stop to generational cycles of trauma and addiction.”

“I’m proud of the work we’ve done to crack down on traffickers through smart legislation like the HALT Fentanyl Act—but that’s only half the battle,” said Congressman Nunn. “This commonsense, bipartisan bill puts resources to work in our schools to give educators the tools to intervene early, support students, and prevent drug use, exploitation, and gang involvement before it starts.”

“Keeping our young people safe is a shared responsibility, and the Center for Prevention of Abuse (CFPA) is proud to work with more than 140 schools throughout Central Illinois to stop abuse before it begins through comprehensive, age appropriate, evidence-based prevention education,” said Carol Merna, CEO of Center for Prevention of Abuse. “We should all work together to arrive at the day when no young person will be lost to human trafficking and other forms of violence and abuse. The Safe Schools and Communities Act will equip schools with important prevention education resources.  It is more than policy, it’s a bold affirmation that safety isn’t a privilege, it’s a right.”

“This legislation is critically important to begin to address the root cause issues that lead to long term trauma for our children,” said Demario Boone, Director of School Safety at Peoria Public Schools. “Minimalizing these traumas early on not only helps our schools, but our communities. It combats the traumas of human trafficking, drug abuse, gang activity and community violence. Prevention instead of reaction should be the primary goal of any legislation. This is it.”

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, crimes like human trafficking and drug use often stem from gang activity. Gang-involved youth are more likely to abuse substances and face long-term challenges such as dropping out of school, family instability, and difficulty finding steady employment.

Over 70,000 drug related deaths in 2021 were attributed to synthetic opioids other than methadone—primarily fentanyl. Fentanyl poisoning is now the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 18-45.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Sorensen Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Re-Establish Federal Program to Help Working Families Afford Clean Drinking Water

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17)

Representatives Eric Sorensen (IL-17), Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), Kim Schrier (WA-08), Mike Lawler (NY-17), Robin Kelly (IL-02), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), and Sharice Davids (KS-03) introduced their bipartisan Low-Income Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) Establishment Act. The legislation would re-establish LIHWAP, the first-ever federal water assistance program, after funding for the program expired in 2022.

“The number one issue worrying my neighbors in Central and Northwestern Illinois is affordability – whether it’s putting food on the table for their kids or covering their high-water bill,” said Congressman Sorensen. “Here in Washington, we have the power to help families in Illinois-17 and across the country who are feeling the squeeze from higher prices by ensuring they have access to safe, clean, and affordable drinking water. The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program was an incredibly successful program that supported tens of thousands of families in Illinois at-risk of having their access to drinking water cut-off. My bipartisan legislation will help make it a permanent lifeline for those who need a helping hand.”

“Access to clean, safe water is not a luxury, it is a basic necessity,” said Congressman Bresnahan. “With water bills rising faster than inflation, more than 33% of Americans are struggling to pay their water bills. We have seen great success with energy assistance through LIHEAP, and it only makes sense to adapt it to water assistance for our most vulnerable. The LIHWAP Establishment Act will keep low-income households connected to clear water, ensure local utilities have the resources to maintain critical infrastructure, and invest in the long-term strength of our communities.”

“Every family, regardless of financial status, should have reliable access to clean water,” said Congresswoman Schrier. “The Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) provided vital support to hardworking families in the Eighth District and across the country. That’s why I’m happy to join my colleagues in this bipartisan effort to restore LIHWAP assistance and help lower the cost of water and wastewater utility bills for those in need.”

“In the richest country in the world, every hardworking family should have access to clean drinking water,” said Congresswoman Kelly. “Too many families in Illinois and across the country, though, have to choose between higher grocery prices, higher rent and higher utility bills. I’m proud to help alleviate the burden of water costs and introduce a bill that would reestablish the successful Low-Income Assistance Program.”

“No one should have to choose between paying for water and putting food on the table,” said Congresswoman Davids. “I’m proud to support this legislation to help Kansas families stay safe and financially stable — because when folks can count on basic utilities, it makes it easier to care for their families and contribute to their communities. Simply, reliable access to water shouldn’t depend on your income or ZIP code.”

“Drinking water service is an essential lifeline, regardless of a person’s income,” said Tom Dobbins, CEO of the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA). “Just as the federal government has long-established programs to support nutrition assistance and home heating and cooling service for households in need, the LIHWAP Establishment Act would appropriately provide water assistance to low-income families nationwide. AMWA appreciates the leadership of Reps. Sorensen and Bresnahan to advance water affordability, and looks forward to building additional support for this critical legislation.”

“LIHWAP proved to be an essential lifeline, serving more than 1.6 million households who could not afford clean and safe water services,” said Adam Krantz, CEO of the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA). “NACWA applauds the leadership of Representatives Sorensen and Bresnahan in recognizing the need for a permanent federal water assistance program. This investment would help public clean water agencies make necessary infrastructure investments for their communities while protecting households in need. We look forward to working with these Congressional water champions to get this critical program enacted.”

LIHWAP supported more than 1.5 million households, preventing nearly 1 million disconnections of water service and reducing over 1.1 million water bills before it was shuttered. In Illinois, the program served 84,759 households, prevented 19,233 water disconnections, and helped 4,889 families have their water restored.

This bill would re-establish LIHWAP to continue helping working families afford clean drinking water and other wastewater services by subsidizing their utility bills. Funding will go from the state to the utility and be deducted from the household’s bill. The program will originate with the Department of Health and Human Services and then transition to the Environmental Protection Agency.

States may also use up to fifteen percent of funds to offset the cost of administering, determining eligibility of, and conducting outreach to low-income households.

In addition to the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies and the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, the bill is supported by the American Water Works Association,  National Association of Counties, National Association of Water, National League of Cities, Rural Community Assistance Partnership, U.S. Conference of Mayors, and the Water Environment Federation.

“I am outraged that two Planned Parenthood clinics in my district have been forced to close due to President Trump and Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid. Their Big Ugly Bill cuts Medicaid reimbursements to health care organizations like Planned Parenthood. Now, we’re witnessing the real-world ramifications of the shameful extremism embodied by the Republican House majority.

The San Mateo and South San Francisco Planned Parenthood clinics have long served as a lifeline for thousands of patients in our community, many of whom are low-income, uninsured, or unable to access quality health care elsewhere. Without these clinics, vulnerable populations are left without access to critical health care, such as cancer screenings, contraception, and general health services.

These closures represent a coordinated effort to erode the right to reproductive health care in every state, red or blue. All to bankroll tax cuts for billionaires, who are the primary beneficiaries of these inhumane health care cuts.

This is a dark day for our district and the country. I demand that Republican leadership bring the Restoring Essential Health Care Act to the House floor immediately, which would repeal these devastating cuts. I stand with Planned Parenthood, today and always, and I will continue to fight to protect reproductive health care despite these despicable attacks from the far-right. “
