    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    April 15, 2025

Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson Strengthens U.S.-Pakistan Ties During Bipartisan Delegation Visit

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson (IL-01) recently returned from a bipartisan congressional delegation visit to Pakistan, marking his first official trip to the country and the first such congressional visit in two years. The delegation engaged in high-level discussions on critical issues, including security, defense, and counterterrorism, while also fostering cultural and diplomatic ties.

During the visit, Congressman Jackson and the delegation held constructive meetings with key Pakistani leaders, including:

    – H.E. Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of Interior

    – General Asim Munir, Army Chief of Staff

    – H.E. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of Planning

These discussions underscored the importance of continued U.S.-Pakistan collaboration on shared strategic interests and regional stability.

The delegation also traveled to Kartarpur, where they joined leaders from the Sikh community to celebrate “Baisakhi”, a festival commemorating the founding of the Sikh community. Congressman Jackson toured the historic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib and visited the Langar Hall, engaging with community members and partaking in a traditional meal.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Randy Feenstra (IA-04)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) helped introduce legislation to lower the financial costs of adoption by making the Adoption Tax Credit fully refundable and removing income as a barrier to adoption.

“As a father of four, I believe that every child deserves a loving home and that we should encourage families to adopt. Iowans who want to adopt but do not have the financial resources to do so should not be prevented from making additions to their families – they should be supported,” said Rep. Feenstra. “I’m glad to work with a bipartisan group of my colleagues to make the Adoption Tax Credit fully refundable so that families can adopt without facing costly financial barriers. To keep our communities strong, we need to invest in our families and help every child find a permanent, loving home.”

Approximately half of youth adopted from foster care live in families with incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Scholten Calls for Immediate Action to Prevent Costly Delays in Grand Haven Dredging Project

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Hillary Scholten – Michigan

WASHINGTON – After months of ongoing communication with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), and the Governor’s office, U.S. Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (MI03) called on the Governor and EGLE’s director to prevent costly delays in the dredging of Grand Haven’s Inner Harbor—a project critical to West Michigan’s economy.

“We’ve been working for months to protect Grand Haven’s necessary dredging schedule, but we’re now at a tipping point,” said Rep. Scholten. “This isn’t just a bureaucratic delay—it’s a potential economic crisis for West Michigan. I’m urging the state to act now so we don’t lose out on critical federal funding, drive up costs for Michigan families, and risk Grand Haven becoming unnavigable. We can protect our Great Lakes and our local economy at the same time, but only if we act quickly and collaboratively.”

Scholten has been actively working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Whitmer Administration, and EGLE since January to prevent delays to the project. While the USACE has funds and a dredging plan ready to go, they require final sediment disposal standards from EGLE before they can proceed. EGLE finalized draft sediment guidance on April 8—just weeks before the dredging cycle was set to begin.

Scholten pressed the Whitmer Administration and EGLE to pursue immediate solutions, including the possibility of a one-time permit or temporary extension that would allow dredging to proceed while broader PFAS disposal standards are finalized.

A delay threatens serious consequences: Grand Haven’s harbor supports over 450 jobs and generates $88.8 million annually in regional economic impact. A missed dredging cycle could increase shipping costs by 25 to 30%, disrupt road and agricultural supply chains across Michigan, and result in an estimated $3 to 5 million in additional costs that could ultimately fall on consumers.

The dredging of Grand Haven’s Inner Harbor is also vital for delivering aggregate materials used in construction and agriculture across the state. Without dredging, nearly 2 million tons of materials may go undelivered this year, creating ripple effects across industries and potentially overwhelming nearby harbors unequipped to handle the volume. Efficient transportation of road-building materials is critical to meeting the Whitmer Administration’s road repair goals. Ensuring reliable cargo shipping channels will help support ongoing construction efforts and keep projects on track—an area of shared concern and commitment.

In the letter, Scholten acknowledged the dangers of forever chemicals on the Great Lakes and supports the need for thoughtful standards to guide their management. She also stressed the importance of moving forward in a timely and pragmatic way that safeguards water quality without stalling critical infrastructure and economic projects.

Since the issue was first raised, Rep. Scholten has kept local officials informed and continues to advocate for a timely, environmentally responsible solution that keeps Grand Haven’s harbor open for business and ensures public health protections remain in place.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Reps. Mann, Kaptur, Budzinski Lead Bipartisan, Bicameral Legislation to Prioritize Domestic Feedlots and Biofuels

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Tracey Mann (Kansas, 1)

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Representatives Tracey Mann (KS-01), Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), and Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) reintroduced the bipartisan, bicameral Farmer First Fuel Incentives Act. The bill would restrict the eligibility of the 45Z Tax Credit to renewable fuels made only from domestically sourced feedstocks and extend the credit through 2034. U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-KS) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) introduced companion legislation in the Senate.

“American tax incentives should benefit American-grown products and American farmers, not foreign producers,” said Rep. Mann. “Foreign feedstocks can play a significant role in producing domestically manufactured ethanol, biodiesel, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel, but we cannot allow them to displace harvest grown right in our backyard. Our tax code should reward the grit and tenacity of American producers, not prop up feedstocks grown overseas.”

“Today, I joined my colleagues in this important bicameral and bipartisan effort because helping American farmers, producers, and growers goes beyond state and party lines, and is more important now than ever,” said Rep. Kaptur. “We must ensure the Clean Fuel Production tax credit is structured in a way that benefits domestic producers, and not one that advantages foreign-produced feedstocks from China or Brazil. Our legislation extends this credit through 2034 and will bolster American energy independence by prioritizing American producers and the production of domestic biofuels.”

The Farmer First Fuel Incentives Act would extend the 45Z tax credit and give the ethanol industry the time and financial incentive to build up the infrastructure needed for the U.S. to be less reliant on foreign fuel, open new markets for farmers, and increase ethanol production across the Midwest. Additionally, this bill fixes the glaring flaw in 45Z that negatively impacts farmers wanting to sell feedstocks to the biodiesel and renewable diesel industry. If 45Z continues as-is, taxpayers are at risk of further subsidizing Chinese-used cooking oil and undermining the use of soy, canola, sorghum, and corn oil in renewable fuels.

“The Farmer First Fuel Incentives Act is commonsense legislation that stops sending American taxpayer dollars to China, expands robust domestic markets for agriculture producers, and increases certainty for the biofuels industry,” said Sen. Marshall. “With President Trump in the White House and Republicans leading both the Senate and House, we are finally putting American farmers first and supporting biofuels made in the U.S.A. It’s time our energy and agricultural policies reflect that.”

“Domestically produced biofuel strengthens our energy independence, supports our farmers, and boosts rural economies,” said Sen. Klobuchar. “The introduction of the Farmers First Fuel Incentives Act is an important step as we work to maximize the potential of the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit and clean fuel investments across rural America. By extending the credit for another ten years, this legislation gives farmers and biofuel producers the certainty they need to provide consumers with affordable, lower-carbon fuel options.”

The legislation is supported by Growth Energy, American Soybean Association, National Oilseed Processors Association (NOPA), National Corn Growers Association, National Sorghum Producers, U.S. Canola Association, and Renewable Fuels Association.

“We are deeply appreciative of these leaders for introducing legislation that establishes requirements for a tax credit that will level the playing field for America’s corn growers,” said National Corn Growers Association President Kenneth Hartman Jr. “This bill brings American farmers a step closer to unlocking an exciting new market with global reach.”

“We appreciate the focus on “farmers first” legislation and the support of 45Z and domestic feedstocks like sorghum,” said Amy France, Chair of the National Sorghum Producers. “Domestic biofuel production remains critical to our farm and our country’s success.”

In September 2024, Rep. Mann introduced the Farmers First Fuel Incentives Act in the 118th Congress. That same month, Reps. Mann and Kaptur penned a letter to then-Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, urging the Treasury to expedite the issuance of the 45Z tax credit.

  • MIL-OSI USA: It’s Over – U.S. Department of Transportation and Amtrak Rescinds Grant for Texas Central’s High-Speed Rail Boondoggle

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Jake Ellzey (Texas, 6)

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jake Ellzey today commended the U.S. Department of Transportation and Amtrak for terminating the $63.9 million grant awarded under the Corridor Identification and Development (CID) Program for the Texas High-Speed Rail Corridor, previously known as the Texas Central Railway project.

“First, I want to thank Secretary Sean Duffy for his continued dedication to ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly. Through numerous conversations and collaboration, it became clear that we share a commitment to ensuring that projects like the Texas Central Railway do not misuse federal resources,” stated Congressman Ellzey. “I also appreciate the transparency regarding the challenges surrounding this project, and it’s clear that the $64 million grant for this study should be rescinded. We cannot allow taxpayer money to be used for a project that threatens to seize land in Texas for a rail line that does not align with the needs and interests of our communities.”

Ellzey continued, “Land cannot be taken, homes cannot be destroyed, and lives should not be disrupted for a project that does not serve the needs of our state. As I have stated before, I strongly oppose the use of eminent domain for private ventures like the high-speed rail project. It is critical that any development respects the rights of Texas property owners and preserves our farmland.”

“Moving forward, it is imperative that Amtrak focuses on improving its existing services and addresses the pressing issues facing its current operations. We must ensure that federal funds are used wisely and to benefit the American people. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Washington to ensure that taxpayer money is spent efficiently and responsibly,” Ellzey added.

Today’s announcement reflects the FRA’s commitment to redirecting resources toward initiatives that improve the reliability and safety of rail transportation. The approximately $60 million balance will be reallocated to other projects that serve the best interests of the American public.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Ezell, Carter, Letlow, Fields Introduce Bipartisan Flood Insurance Bill to Provide Stability to Mississippi Property Owners and the Real Estate Market

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Mike Ezell (Mississippi 4th District)

Representatives Mike Ezell (MS-04), Troy A. Carter, Sr. (LA-02), Julia Letlow (LA-05), and Cleo Fields (LA-06) have introduced the bipartisan National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Authorization Extension Act which will extend the federal authorization for the NFIP. The bill would extend the program through December 31, 2026, significantly longer than the typical short-term extensions passed by Congress.

“For far too long, families, businesses, and entire communities along our coast have lived with the uncertainty caused by short-term extensions of the National Flood Insurance Program,” Ezell said. The NFIP Authorization Extension Act delivers the stability South Mississippians need as they continue to face the devastating effects of flooding and natural disasters. By extending the program through the end of 2026, we’re sending a clear message: we are committed to protecting our coastal communities, giving them the tools to recover and rebuild, and working in a bipartisan way to strengthen and modernize the program for the future.”

“I am proud to introduce this bill to provide the long-overdue stability our communities deserve,” Carter said. “For too long, homeowners, small businesses, and local economies have lived under the cloud of short-term NFIP extensions, often attached to contentious government funding bills. This clean, multi-year reauthorization brings much-needed certainty to policyholders and ensures uninterrupted access to flood insurance across the country. As flooding becomes more frequent and severe, we must protect families and businesses by keeping this program operating while we work to deliver lasting, comprehensive reforms to strengthen and modernize the program.”

“Given the frequent storms and flooding our state endures, I’m a strong advocate for renewing the National Flood Insurance Program and making sure it serves those who depend on it. For many Louisianans, flood insurance is not just a policy—it’s a lifeline. I’m committed to working with my colleagues to strengthen this vital program and ensure our communities get the support they need when disaster strikes,” Letlow said.

“Passing the NFIP Authorization Extension Act is essential to protecting hardworking people across Louisiana,” Fields said. Given our state’s history with extreme weather events, we must ensure that flood insurance remains accessible to all. My colleagues in both the House and Senate will continue to fight for those most affected by flooding throughout the state and across the country.”

The Senate companion NFIP Authorization Extension Act was introduced by Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) and John Kennedy (R-LA) in March 2025. Congressmembers Marc Veasey (D-TX), Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), and LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) are original cosponsors of the House legislation.

“Rather than experiencing a 33rd short-term extension, NFIP policyholders deserve certainty, and NFIP as a program requires stability. A two-year reauthorization will provide a runway for Congress and stakeholders to hold conversations and hearings around catastrophic insurance and towards highly-demanded comprehensive NFIP reform, like a means-tested benefit for affordability, a third-party review of the Risk Rating 2.0 methodology, and proper incentivization of flood risk mitigation,” GNO, Inc. President Michael Hecht said.

“Extending the National Flood Insurance Program would ensure continuous operations and greater stability for policyholders until a long-term reauthorization is enacted into law – a valuable source of certainty for counties and our residents,” National Association of Counties Executive Director Matthew Chase said. “Counties thank Representatives Carter, Fields, Letlow, and Ezell for their leadership, and we look forward to working with our bipartisan congressional partners to secure passage of this legislation.”

    Background:

The NFIP is a federal program managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that provides flood insurance to homeowners and businesses, aiming to reduce the financial impact of flooding. The program is vital for coastal communities with extensive low-lying areas and frequent exposure to hurricanes and heavy rainfall. The NFIP helps protect residents from devastating financial losses due to flood damage, encourages responsible development in flood-prone areas, and supports rebuilding efforts after disasters—making it a critical safety net for Mississippi communities.

Oconomowoc, WI – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement in response to a Wisconsin teen accused of murdering his parents and plotting to assassinate President Donald Trump.

“I want to thank the FBI and local law enforcement for their quick, coordinated response to stop another plot to assassinate the President. We grieve for the two innocent individuals who were killed in connection with this plot. My prayers are with their loved ones as they endure this unimaginable loss,” said Congressman Fitzgerald.

NYC, Home of Many Historic Asian American Communities, Pays Price For Trump’s Recklessness

View Pictures and Video of Press Conference Here

New York, NY – Today, Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10), Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-06), Chair of Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), Assembly Member Grace Lee, Chair of the New York State Assembly Asian Pacific American Task Force (APA Task Force), Council Member Susan Zhuang, and other elected officials and local advocates, hosted a press conference to demand President Trump stop his ongoing trade war which will harm Asian American families and businesses in New York.

The President’s tariffs are pushing many Asian American-owned small businesses in New York City toward financial ruin, especially those dependent on foreign imports. The trade war, driven by the White House, threatens to devastate historic Asian American neighborhoods. These reckless policies are creating economic volatility and disproportionately affecting businesses reliant on international trade. As a result, many small businesses are uncertain about their future, placing a significant financial strain on Asian American families and entrepreneurs across the city.

“From Manhattan’s Chinatown to Sunset Park and beyond, Donald Trump’s reckless and destructive trade war is crippling New York’s AAPI small businesses and pushing entire communities to the brink of financial ruin,” Congressman Dan Goldman said. “Mom-and-pop shops are struggling to make ends meet. Livelihoods are on the line. If Trump doesn’t reverse these tariffs immediately, his dangerous brinkmanship will shutter AAPI small businesses not only in New York City but across the country.”

Congresswoman Meng said, “As the new Chair of CAPAC, I’m proud to partner with New York State APA Task Force Chair Grace Lee, and my colleague Congressman Goldman to shine a light on the harm that this trade war will have on the Asian American community, in particular Asian-owned small businesses. These tariffs will deliver devastating blows to everybody from our local entrepreneurs to owners of mom-and-pop establishments, with many being forced to pass higher costs onto their customers or suffer financial hits to their livelihoods. Those working to fully recover from the COVID-19 pandemic will be hit especially hard. It will also impact jobs and investments in our neighborhoods. We will continue pushing for these tariffs to be rescinded.”

Assemblymember Grace Lee said, “Trump’s reckless tariff policies are driving up costs for small businesses and raising prices for everyday people. In Chinatown, family-run shops that have been part of the community for generations are struggling to survive. And when hostility toward China drives policy, it too often leads to racism against the Asian American community. These policies aren’t just bad economics — they’re bad for Asian Americans.”

NY State Senator John Liu said, “Trump’s punitive tariff charade is causing irreparable harm to immigrant communities and small businesses throughout the country, and especially here in New York City. In their pursuit of the American Dream, Asian American small businesses have revitalized our economy and strengthened our communities, but now their livelihoods are on the line as they’re forced to either absorb skyrocketing costs or pass them onto their customers, who are already struggling. It’s time to end this zero sum trade war that is threatening to stall so many economic engines for our city, state and country.”

Council Member Susan Zhuang said, “As the Councilmember for Brooklyn’s District 43, a majority Asian-American district, I see the direct impact of all federal changes on my constituents.I regularly say immigrant business owners provide essential services for New Yorkers. These tariffs hinder these business owners from doing their work which will put a burden on every single working class New Yorker.”

Council Member Sandra Ung said, “Just recently hit hard by COVID-19, a rise in anti-Asian hate crimes, inflation, and rising rents, the economic recovery remains fragile. Many immigrant-owned small businesses that rely heavily on international trade are still struggling to get back on their feet. Moreover, many budget grocery stores provide a vital lifeline for working-class families. The potential shocks to the market these tariffs will cause follow on the heels of recent cuts by Washington Republicans to the SNAP program that prevent stolen funds from being replaced. We need clear and compassionate federal guidance and targeted local support to protect these businesses from further setbacks and to ensure the economic recovery in our Asian American communities stays on track.”

Council Member Julie Won said, “Federal tariffs threaten the livelihoods of Asian-owned small businesses in District 26. High import fees will force Bangladeshi, Filipino, and Chinese business owners to pay more to purchase goods. Tariffs also hurt working-class New Yorkers who already struggle to pay for rent, groceries, and other necessities. I join my colleagues in Congress and the Assembly to urge Trump to reverse these harmful tariffs.”

Karen Liu, second generation owner of Grand Tea and Imports said, “Almost every business in Chinatown is an import business in some way. These tariffs threaten our ability to restock—and for many of our neighbors, their ability to stay open. As we move through this uncertain time, I hope policymakers remember Chinatown. We shouldn’t have to face this alone.”

All have made protecting and supporting small businesses, as well as the Asian American community, a priority of their time in office.

In March, Congressman Goldman and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand secured $50 million in IRS Employee Retention Tax Credits for 585 small businesses. This release was fought for by Congressman Goldman, Senator Chuck Schumer, and nine of their New York congressional colleagues in the winter of 2024, urging the agency to expedite the processing and resolution of legitimate Employee Retention Credit (ERC) claims.

In February, Congressman Goldman joined Senator Smith, and Congresswoman Underwood in introducing the ‘Job Protection Act,’ which would expand the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) to millions of workers who are currently unable to take time off to care for themselves or their families. Nearly 2.6 million workers every year decline to take family or medical leave out of fear that they will lose their jobs due to gaps in FMLA coverage.

In Spring of 2023,  Congressman Goldman joined Congresswoman Meng in introducing the ‘Teaching Asian Pacific American History Act’ which would require Presidential and Congressional Academies’ grant applicants and recipients to include Asian Pacific American history in American history and civics curricula.

Congressman Goldman is an Executive Board Member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Reps. Carter, Fields, Letlow, Ezell Introduce Flood Insurance Bill to Provide Stability to Property Owners and the Real Estate Market

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Troy A. Carter Sr. (LA-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr. (D-LA), Congressman Cleo Fields (D-LA), Congresswoman Julia Letlow (R-LA), and Congressman Mike Ezell (R-MS) have introduced the bipartisan National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Authorization Extension Act which will extend the federal authorization for the NFIP. The bill would extend the program through December 31, 2026, significantly longer than the typical short-term extensions passed by Congress.

“I am proud to introduce this bill to provide the long-overdue stability our communities deserve,” said Rep. Carter. “For too long, homeowners, small businesses, and local economies have lived under the cloud of short-term NFIP extensions, often attached to contentious government funding bills. Given our state’s history with extreme weather events, we must ensure that flood insurance remains accessible to all. My colleagues in both the House and Senate will continue to fight for those most affected by flooding throughout the state and across the country,” said Rep. “Given the frequent storms and flooding our state endures, I’m a strong advocate for renewing the National Flood Insurance Program and making sure it serves those who depend on it. For many Louisianans, flood insurance is not just a policy—it’s a lifeline. I’m committed to working with my colleagues to strengthen this vital program and ensure our communities get the support they need when disaster strikes,” said Rep. Letlow.

“For far too long, families, businesses, and entire communities along our coast have lived with the uncertainty caused by short-term extensions of the National Flood Insurance Program. The NFIP Authorization Extension Act delivers the stability South Mississippians need and deserve as they continue to face the devastating effects of flooding and natural disasters. Ezell.

The Senate companion NFIP Authorization Extension Act was introduced by Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) and John Kennedy (R-LA) in March 2025. Congressmembers Marc Veasey (D-TX), Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), and LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) are original cosponsors of the House legislation.

“Rather than experiencing a 33rd short-term extension, NFIP policyholders deserve certainty, and NFIP as a program requires stability. A two-year reauthorization will provide a runway for Congress and stakeholders to hold conversations and hearings around catastrophic insurance and towards highly-demanded comprehensive NFIP reform, like a means-tested benefit for affordability, a third-party review of the Risk Rating 2.0 methodology, and proper incentivization of flood risk mitigation,” said GNO, Inc. President Michael Hecht.

“Extending the National Flood Insurance Program would ensure continuous operations and greater stability for policyholders until a long-term reauthorization is enacted into law – a valuable source of certainty for counties and our residents,” said National Association of Counties Executive Director Matthew Chase. “Counties thank Representatives Carter, Fields, Letlow, and Ezell for their leadership, and we look forward to working with our bipartisan congressional partners to secure passage of this legislation.”

    Background

The NFIP is a federal program managed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that provides flood insurance to homeowners and businesses, aiming to reduce the financial impact of flooding. The program is vital for Louisiana, a state with extensive low-lying areas and frequent exposure to hurricanes and heavy rainfall. The NFIP helps protect residents from devastating financial losses due to flood damage, encourages responsible development in flood-prone areas, and supports rebuilding efforts after disasters—making it a critical safety net for Louisiana’s communities.

Over the last decade, Congress has passed 33 short-term NFIP authorization extensions, which have been attached to contentious government funding bills. Had Congress not been able to pass a government funding bill, not only would the government shut down, but the NFIP program’s authorization would have also lapsed. A lapse in the program’s authorization means new policies could not be issued, existing policies could not be renewed, and real estate transactions in flood-prone areas may stall, leaving homeowners and businesses vulnerable.

A lapse in authorization also delays claims payments, increases reliance on taxpayer-funded disaster aid, and creates market instability. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), a lapse of NFIP could impact 1,360 home sale closings daily, translating to approximately 41,300 affected monthly transactions nationwide. By extending the program through December 31, 2026, this legislation ensures that Americans are not left in limbo and gives Congress the necessary time to work toward bipartisan solutions that strengthen and modernize the program.

Flooding is the most common and costly natural disaster in the United States, affecting communities in every state. The NFIP is a lifeline for over five million policyholders, helping them recover and rebuild after disasters.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Two Years After Old National Bank Shooting, Congressman McGarvey Speaks on House Floor, Introduces Congressional Resolution Honoring Victims

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Morgan McGarvey (Kentucky-03)

    April 10, 2025

Today, two years after the Old National Bank shooting that claimed five lives and injured eight, Congressman Morgan McGarvey spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives and introduced an official Congressional Resolution to honor the victims.

    SPEECH TRANSCRIPT:

Two years ago today, the blast of an AR-15 shattered a beautiful spring morning in Louisville as a lone gunman walked into Old National Bank on Main Street and opened fire.

We lost Josh Barrick, Deana Eckert, Juliana Farmer, Jim Tutt, and my friend, Tommy Elliott.

Five friends, neighbors, loved ones taken too soon.

Among the eight wounded was Officer Nick Wilt.

Just ten days out of the academy, he bravely ran toward the gunman and was shot in the head. Miraculously, he survived.

That same day, just blocks away at JCTC, two people were shot and Chea’von Moore was killed at just 24 years old.

I stand here today as a lifelong Louisvillian, still sad my community joined the long list of cities devastated by mass shootings.

On behalf of all of our communities, we can – and must – do more to stop senseless gun violence.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Republican Budget Resolution:

“This Budget Resolution is a bold, responsible plan to put our country back on the right track. It reflects the will of the 77 million Americans who are demanding we rein in reckless spending, secure our borders, and restore economic strength.

It makes clear that House Republicans will keep our promises to the American people—cutting waste, fraud, and abuse without harming eligible beneficiaries of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. With the budget framework, we will strengthen these critical programs and protect them for future generations, seniors, and families who rely on them.

It also begins the reconciliation process, which is essential to delivering the transformational policies of President Trump’s America First agenda in one big, beautiful bill. I proudly voted yes.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Oregon Delegation Condemns Trump Administration’s Decision to Eliminate Key Manufacturing Program

Source: US Representative Andrea Salinas (OR-06)

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Andrea Salinas (OR-06) led the Oregon delegation – including U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, along with U.S. Reps. Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01), Val Hoyle (OR-04), Maxine Dexter (OR-03), and Janelle Bynum (OR-05) – in a letter to U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, condemning the Trump Administration’s decision to eliminate the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program. The MEP program is a public-private partnership that helps small- and medium-sized manufacturers grow by streamlining operations and reducing their risk.

Ten MEP centers were recently notified that the Department of Commerce will not be renewing their cooperative agreements “due to a shift in departmental priorities.” In their letter, the lawmakers note that additional centers – including the Oregon Manufacturing Extension Partnership (OMEP) – anticipate receiving the same notice as their agreements come up for renewal.

“Oregon manufacturers contribute nearly $40 billion to our state’s economy and support over 175,000 good paying jobs. Eliminating the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program directly undermines small and medium-sized manufacturers in Oregon, and threatens our local economic stability. We urge you to reverse course and sustain this vital program,” wrote the Members.

Over the past ten years, OMEP has strengthened Oregon’s manufacturing sector and delivered $3.9 billion in direct economic impact. OMEP supports over 530 businesses in Oregon with a significant presence in all six congressional districts. In 2024 alone, OMEP leveraged $2.2 million in funding to support $165.6 million in private investment – a 75:1 return on investment for U.S. taxpayers.

The lawmakers go on to emphasize how the MEP program saved Oregon manufacturers $24 million last year, allowing them to create or retain 1,400 jobs across the state.

They continued: “President Trump has made it a priority to support domestic manufacturing, and MEP is one of our most effective and cost-efficient programs to help these companies succeed. That’s why funding for this program has consistently received bipartisan support in Congress, including from our delegation. We respectfully urge you to reconsider any plans to reduce or eliminate funding for state MEP centers, and we stand ready to work together to strengthen Oregon manufacturing.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Feenstra Leads Bicameral Letter to USDA, HHS, EPA on MAHA Commission Stance on Products Essential to Food and Agriculture

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Randy Feenstra (IA-04)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Reps. Randy Feenstra (R-IA) and Mark Alford (R-MO) alongside U.S. Senators Pete Ricketts (R-NE) and Deb Fischer (R-NE) led a bicameral group of colleagues in sending a letter to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, and Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency Lee Zeldin.

In the letter, the lawmakers call for the use of sound science and risk-based analysis as the MAHA Commission finalizes its work, particularly on crop protection tools, biotechnology, and food- and feed-grade ingredients.

The lawmakers write, “We write to express our strong appreciation for your leadership and interest in working with each of you to ensure America has the healthiest people in the world. In recent decades, chronic illness rates have risen. This warrants our careful scrutiny to support better health outcomes. It is essential that policies supported by sound science and risk-based analyses are used to accomplish this goal.”

We have concerns that environmentalists are advancing harmful health, economic, or food security policies under the guise of human health,” the letter continues. “Despite insinuations to the contrary, regular testing by FDA and USDA finds that more than 99% of all pesticide residues meet extremely conservative limits established by EPA according to the best available science,”

Read the full letter HERE or below.

Dear Secretary Kennedy, Secretary Rollins, and Administrator Zeldin:

We write to express our strong appreciation for your leadership and interest in working with each of you to ensure America has the healthiest people in the world. In recent decades, chronic illness rates have risen. This warrants our careful scrutiny and to support better health outcomes. It is essential that policies supported by sound science and risk-based analyses are used to accomplish this goal.

We also urge you to safeguard the work of the Make America Healthy Again Commission (Commission) from activist groups promoting misguided and sometimes even malicious policies masquerading as health solutions. The influence of these groups in the Commission would result in shoddy science; a less abundant, less affordable food supply; greater reliance on foreign adversaries for our food; diminished U.S. agricultural production and manufacturing; and, ultimately, poorer health outcomes.

President Trump recently stated environmental activists were holding the economic prosperity of our country hostage. We now have concerns that they are seeking to influence the work of the Commission to advance their agenda. For decades activist groups have tried to ban safe, well-regulated agricultural inputs by any means necessary. Without these products, yields and quality are negatively impacted by otherwise avoidable insects, fungus, weeds, and other pest pressures. This drives up food prices for American consumers and forces reliance of food imports.

The same groups have seized upon the Commission’s work as an opportunity to misrepresent the science on common food and feed categories or ingredients, such as plant-based oils. These inputs are subject to a robust, risk-based regulatory system which focuses on protecting human health. Unfounded accusations harm the U.S. farmers who grow our food, upend food and feed supply chains, and significantly increase grocery food prices – all without public health benefit.

We have concerns that environmentalists are advancing harmful health, economic, or food security policies under the guise of human health. Despite insinuations to the contrary, regular testing by FDA and USDA finds that more than 99% of all pesticide residues meet extremely conservative limits established by EPA according to the best available science.

We applaud the Commission’s desire to improve the health and well-being of Americans. We implore you to ensure policy decisions are grounded in sound science and risk-based analyses. With unity, we can protect American agricultural producers from environmental activists’ attacks on proven-safe inputs critical to their profitability and long-term viability while promoting positive health outcomes.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Robert Garcia Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Reduce Lead Exposure Near Airports

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Robert Garcia California (42nd District)

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) and Congressman Jay Obernolte (CA-23) announced the introduction of the bipartisan Cutting Lead Exposure and Aviation Relief (CLEAR) Skies Act to protect the health of communities near airports by reducing harmful lead emissions from aviation fuel and accelerating the transition to unleaded alternatives. The full text of the CLEAR Skies Act can be found here.

“As the former Mayor of Long Beach, we led efforts to create a more sustainable airport and supported federal efforts to lower emissions that impact neighboring communities,” said Congressman Garcia. “Harmful emissions from leaded airplane fuel continue to pollute the air in neighborhoods near airports, putting children and families at risk. This bill will help accelerate the adoption of cleaner and safer aviation fuel.”

“As both a pilot and a representative of a district that is at the forefront of aviation and technological innovation, I’m proud to lead the CLEAR Skies Act alongside Congressman Robert Garcia,” said Congressman Obernolte. “This bill is more than just a commitment to cleaner skies—it is smart policy that drives innovation and safeguards public health. By incentivizing the production of unleaded aviation gasoline, we are not only reducing harmful lead emissions but also empowering American businesses to lead in sustainable aviation technology. It’s a win-win for both our environment and our economy.”

The CLEAR Skies Act will support the aviation industry’s transition away from leaded gasoline by creating a federal production tax credit to reduce the cost of unleaded aviation gas. In November 2024, the City of Long Beach approved a new subsidy program of up to $200,000 in reimbursements to offset unleaded fuel costs for general aviation users, funded by airport revenues. The American Association of Airport Executives has endorsed this bill.

Congressman Garcia has been a strong advocate for climate and environmental justice and is proud to expand investments in sustainable technologies for the future. Last Congress, Congressman Garcia introduced a bill to address port pollution and champion environmental justice for local port communities impacted by shipping emissions. In October, Congressman Garcia sent a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to add Exide Technologies, Inc. to the National Priorities List (NPL) for a Superfund designation to facilitate a long-term comprehensive cleanup of the affected communities and to secure environmental justice for the residents of Southeast Los Angeles. As Mayor of the City of Long Beach, his signature ballot initiative, Measure A, launched the largest infrastructure repair program in a generation, promoting good-paying union jobs.

  • MIL-OSI USA: REPS. LAUREN BOEBERT AND GABE EVANS INTRODUCE CONSERVATION RESERVE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM (CREP) IMPROVEMENT ACT

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Lauren Boebert (Colorado, 3)

WASHINGTON D.C.– Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (CO-04) and Congressman Gabe Evans (CO-08) have introduced the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) Improvement Act to help ranchers and farmers receive a fairer payment structure from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and responsibly manage water resources in agricultural areas. U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper of Colorado and Dr. Roger Marshall and Jerry Moran of Kansas will be introducing the bipartisan companion bill in the U.S. Senate.

As ranchers and farmers voluntarily retire farm acreage to comply with conservation requirements, the USDA has supplied CREP participants with payments to make agriculture leaders whole. The CREP Improvement Act makes adjustments to the payment structure that incentivizes more farmers and ranchers to participate and reforms the payment formula to apply retroactively to water and conservation agreements.

“Our ranchers and farmers are doing everything they can to conserve water while continuing to provide for their families and communities, but the current agreement with the USDA badly needs reform,” said Congresswoman Boebert. “Our CREP Improvement Act has support from both sides of the aisle and is driven by local stakeholders in Colorado who deserve a fair payment structure for retiring their land and ensuring a sustainable future for agriculture interests. This will be a win for ranchers and farmers in Colorado and across America, and I look forward to working with Rep. Evans, and Senators Bennet, Hickenlooper, Marshall, and Moran to pass this legislation through Congress.”

“The Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program Improvement (CREP) Act gives Colorado’s hardworking farmers and ranchers a path forward, allowing them the flexibility to voluntarily cut back on water use while keeping our working lands productive. This bill is a smart, bipartisan step toward protecting Colorado’s water and ensuring our agricultural communities remain sustainable for generations to come,” said Congressman Evans.

“The Colorado Farm Bureau welcomes the reintroduction of the CREP Improvement Act in the House by Congresswoman Boebert. By removing the $50,000 payment limitation, the playing field for additive water conservation and stewardship will be expanded. We’re grateful for the continued leadership of our Colorado delegation on this bill,” said Carlyle Currier, President of the Colorado Farm Bureau.

“The proposed improvements to the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program are a significant step forward for agricultural communities, especially in eastern Colorado. By increasing flexibility, enhancing incentives, and recognizing the unique needs of our region, this bipartisan legislation supports water conservation, strengthens rural economies, and helps ensure the next generation can thrive in agriculture,” said Rod Lenz, President of the Republican River Water Conservation District. “We appreciate our lawmakers’ continued leadership and commitment to working with producers to protect our most vital resource: water.”

“We support creating flexibility in the CREP program to reflect local environmental conditions and to meet unique regional conservation goals,” said Chad Franke, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union President. “These modifications will allow farmers and rural economies to better manage our most precious resource, water. We thank Senators Bennet, Marshall, Hickenlooper, and Moran as well as Representative Boebert for hearing our concerns and for bringing forward the CREP Improvement Act.”

The full text of the bill can be found HERE.

    Background:

The Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) Improvement Act addresses the unfair payment structure currently used by USDA to compensate ranchers and farmers who have voluntarily retired farmland from production to meet conservation goals and concerns. The bill also expands the types of crops that can be retired and eligible for CREP payments as well as increasing flexibility for how ranchers and farmers can utilize dryland CREP acreage where appropriate.

    The CREP Improvement Act includes:

    • Explicitly directing USDA to allow dryland agricultural uses on CREP acreage where appropriate;
    • Specifically adding dryland crop production and grazing to the list of appropriate conservation practices for the CREP program;
    • Allowing continuous cropping systems, like alfalfa, to be eligible for drought and water conservation CREP agreements;
    • Ensuring fairer payments to producers by stipulating that annual payments for drought and water conservation CREP agreements will be equal to the difference between the irrigated acre payment rates and the dryland acre payment rates, as determined by USDA. And ensuring that any drought and water conservation agreement that includes the permanent retirement of a water right receives the full irrigated acre payment rate;
    • Making the payment formula retroactive for existing drought and water conservation agreements;
    • Letting producers choose their payment allocations under the program, instead of a fixed payment per year for the 10-15 year contract period; and
    • Waiving CREP payments from the $50,000 annual payment limitation under the Conservation Reserve Program.

Supportive stakeholders include the Republican River Water Conservation District, the Colorado Farm Bureau, Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, and the Rio Grande Water Conservation District.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Pfluger Fly-By: April 11, 2025

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11)

    Pfluger Fly-By: April 11, 2025

    Washington, April 11, 2025

    April 11, 2025

    Friend,

Welcome back to the weekly Pfluger Fly-By, a collection of events and happenings to keep you updated on everything I am doing week by week to represent you in Congress.

This week, I voted in favor of the budget resolution to continue advancing our America First agenda, blocked noncitizens from voting, reined in district judges, participated in two full committee markups, joined a Punchbowl News event discussion on investing in America, met with several groups of Texans visiting Washington, and much more.

I have included some photos and highlights from the week. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problems you may be having. As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance.

    Best,

My Thoughts on the Budget Resolution

I voted in favor of the budget resolution that will allow Republicans to continue moving forward. While the measure was not perfect, it was a necessary step to implement President Trump’s agenda, and it gives us the ability to move legislation soon to cut government spending and prevent the largest tax hike in history for American families.

We have to look the American public in the eye and give them the confidence that we are committed to ensuring tax relief for working families and small businesses, reining in reckless federal spending, unleashing energy dominance, and making America safe again for this generation and the next – and continuing our momentum by passing the budget resolution does exactly that.

Blocking Noncitizens from Voting in U.S. Elections

This week, I voted in favor of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE)Act to ensure that only U.S. citizens can vote in U.S. elections by requiring proof of U.S. citizenship for individuals to vote in a federal election. Lax voter registration laws across the country in places such as New York, Washington, D.C., California, and others threaten the integrity of our election system.

Voting for the SAVE Act should have been a simple, bipartisan, ‘yes’ vote from all Members of Congress, but unfortunately, that was not the case. Over 200 Democrats voted against the SAVE Act, proving that they will never support commonsense election reforms such as requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to vote. If an individual can’t provide identification to prove they are an American citizen, they should not be able to vote, plain and simple.

I was proud to vote ‘yes’ on this legislation and will continue to be a strong advocate for election reform in Congress. Last year, my legislation to prevent noncitizens from voting in D.C. passed by a bipartisan vote. I reintroduced this bill this Congress as well as two other election security bills.

Ending the District Judges’ War on Presidential Authority

I joined my colleague Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) in penning a joint op-ed in Fox News on the No Rouge Rulings Act, which passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives this week. If signed into law, this legislation would rein in district judges’ war on presidential authority and keep them in their constitutional lane.

In the op-ed, we outline the dangerous overreach by unelected district judges who have relentlessly tried to block President Trump’s executive orders and actions, and how judicial decisions have increasingly undermined the will of the voters.

You can read the full piece here or by clicking the link below.

TAKE IT DOWN Act Passes Out of Energy and Commerce Committee

During the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee’s legislative markup this week, I spoke in support of my legislation, the TAKE IT DOWN Act, which passed with overwhelmingly bipartisan support out of committee. This legislation would protect victims of deepfakes and would criminalize the publication of these harmful images.

We’ve heard time and again of the horrific stories of people ranging from celebrities to 14-year-old girls who have been victimized by this harmful content by strangers or even their peers. While AI has the potential to be harnessed for incredible things, there are far too many predators out there who abuse its power to exploit innocent people.

Watch my full remarks in support of the bill here or by clicking the image below.

Punchbowl News Event: Investing in America

This week, I also sat down with Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman during a Punchbowl News event to discuss the news of the day and how private capital is investing in America. We focused on the success private investment has had in Texas.

I love Texas. I love being from there. It is pro-business and pro-family, and companies know that they succeed when they come to Texas to start or continue operations.

You can watch the full conversation here or by clicking the image below.

    Countering the Chinese Communist Party

I am proud to announce that my legislation, the Countering Transnational Repression Act of 2025, and the DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes passed out of the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security this week and are now one step closer to becoming law.

Both of these bills will counter the Chinese Communist Party and their foothold on American soil. The CCP’s unacceptable acts of hostility are a direct challenge to our nation’s sovereignty, and Congress must respond appropriately to defend our national security. Watch my full remarks on the Countering Transnational Repression Act of 2025 here or at the link below.

ICYMI: Sunday Morning Features on FOX News

I also joined Sunday Morning Features to discuss unleashing American energy in the Permian Basin. You can watch the full interview here or at the link below.

    Meeting with Texans in Washington

This week, I met with several community leaders and partners in Washington, which is always a pleasure. Thank you all for taking the time to discuss how we can implement smart, commonsense policies to strengthen Texas-11!

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Robert Garcia (CA-42) released the following statement after unauthorized Homeland Security agents attempted to enter two Los Angeles Unified School District elementary schools without a warrant.

“We should all be deeply angered and concerned by the attempt of Homeland Security agents to access two elementary schools in Southeast Los Angeles,” said Congressman Garcia. “Both schools are in my congressional district and part of the Los Angeles Unified School District.

I commend the principals and staff at both schools who refused to allow the agents to enter without a warrant, and I’m grateful to Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho for working to protect all students across Los Angeles.

It’s outrageous that Homeland Security would target children, and as a member of the Homeland Security Committee in Congress, I’m demanding answers immediately from Secretary Noem and the Trump Administration. We will not allow our students and their families to be intimidated or harmed.”

Congressman Garcia remains committed to reforming our immigration system, creating fair pathways to citizenship, and treating immigrants with respect and dignity. In July 2024, Congressman Garcia introduced the SHIELD Act, which allocated grants through the Attorney General and the Department of Justice to local and state governments to support the recruitment of staff and attorneys to ensure that immigrants receive quality, affordable representation in immigration court. Last Congress, Congressman Garcia led investigations into fundamental integrity and credibility issues within the DHS, including identifying what actions have been taken to address the threat of domestic violent extremism within the DHS. Congressman Garcia has also defended humane immigration procedures and condemned extreme rhetoric on immigration and border security that dehumanizes migrants legally seeking asylum. Congressman Garcia has also investigated the use of inappropriate language and behavior among Border Patrol agents within ICE toward immigrants following reports from the Huffington Post. Congressman Garcia also continues to champion legislation that increases resources and efficiencies for vital government departments and agencies.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) issued the following statement in response to House Republicans passing their budget proposal that calls for giving massive tax breaks to billionaires, while cutting more than $880 billion from Medicaid.

“The budget House Republicans passed today would rip health care coverage away from neighbors with disabilities, women receiving breast cancer treatments, and postpartum moms to fund massive tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations,” said Congressman Eric Sorensen. “As many as 110,395 children and 20,000 seniors in my district could be kicked off Medicaid and 194,000 could lose access to SNAP benefits that help families in Central and Northwestern Illinois put food on the table. I’m in Congress to fight for my neighbors, not the top .1% getting a six-figure tax giveaway off the backs of vulnerable communities in my district.”

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) delivered passionate remarks and tough questions during a House Agriculture Committee hearing focused on expanding opportunity through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In his testimony, Congressman Sorensen emphasized the real-world impact of proposed cuts to SNAP and pushed back on efforts to reduce assistance for families who rely on the program to survive.

“We’re looking at cuts that would affect everyone from toddlers with disabilities to senior citizen heroes who fought for us in World War II. These are real people,” said Congressman Eric Sorensen. “64,000 families in my district rely on SNAP to make ends meet, but this administration seems to be just OK turning their backs on these real neighbors of mine. The fact that we’re even debating today whether some people deserve to be helped.”

Congressmen Sorensen and LaHood Have Repeatedly Urged USPS Leadership to Protect the Mail Processing and Distribution Center in Peoria

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressmen Eric Sorensen (IL-17) and Darin LaHood (IL-16) applauded the announcement from the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) that the Peoria Mail Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) will remain open at current staffing levels. For over a year, Congressmen Sorensen and LaHood have been urging USPS officials to keep the Peoria center open in an effort to protect the jobs there that help ensure Central Illinois’ mail service is not disrupted.

“The Peoria Processing and Distribution Center provides essential services to our community, small businesses, farmers, and veterans,” said Congressmen Sorensen and LaHood. “We are pleased that USPS has committed to pausing any additional changes through 2025. Together, we will work in a bipartisan manner to protect high-paying and high-quality jobs in Peoria and throughout Central Illinois.”

In February 2024, they sent a letter to USPS leadership questioning their consideration of moving jobs in Peoria to the South Suburban P&DC in Bedford Park, Illinois which would hurt working families and may increase delivery times for residents. A month later, Congressman Sorensen sent another letter urging USPS leadership to reconsider their decision to eliminate the Peoria Processing and Distribution Center. Later in May 2024, they secured a pause in “any implementation of moves” for processing centers “at least until January 1, 2025,” which led to the announcement today.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Kweisi Mfume, Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks and Representatives Steny Hoyer, Jamie Raskin, Glenn Ivey, Sarah Elfreth, April McClain Delaney, and Johnny Olszewski released the following statement regarding the Office of Management and Budget’s proposed cuts to NASA Goddard missions:

“Maryland is the proud home to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and to many of the men and women who conduct the vital work being done there and at its partner launch site, NASA Wallops Flight Facility. This work is critical to our exploration of space, our understanding of the universe and the planet we live on, our development of new, innovative technologies, and our national security. Cutting NASA Goddard’s missions would not only be harmful to our state – the negative impacts would be felt across the country. That’s why we’re committed to protecting the missions at NASA Goddard, and together we will push back against this NASA budget proposal.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Issa Criticizes LA28 Decision Not to Keep Galway Downs an Olympic Venue

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-50)

Calls for continued support of Temecula facility as 2028 Olympics Equestrian venue

Congressman Darrell Issa issued the following statement in response to the decision by LA28 to not keep Galway Downs as an Olympic venue for the 2028 summer games.

“I’m deeply disappointed to learn that Galway Downs in Temecula is reportedly no longer LA28’s proposed host site for equestrian events at the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games. This abrupt move appears arbitrary, unwarranted, and our community deserves a clear explanation of the process that led to this change. At this time, a satisfactory reason has yet to be offered.

It must be said that for several years, the state-of-the-art facility at Galway Downs, the city of Temecula, and the Riverside County community have prepared to host these important events and showcase the very best that all three have to offer. Significant investments in time, material, and preparation have already been dedicated to serving as the host site, and Galway Downs is the only equestrian venue in the greater Los Angeles region with the existing infrastructure to accommodate all Equestrian Events, including a full-length cross-country course.

I look forward to productive and informative conversations and a more comprehensive transparent process that provides fundamental fairness to Galway Downs and unifies our Southern California community as we welcome the world to our home in 2028.”

This week, Rep. Issa also joined Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-41) and a range of Riverside County regional leaders to encourage the Los Angeles City Council, the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic Games, and the International Olympic Committee to extend continued support for Temecula’s Galway Downs Equestrian Center as the idea venue to host the Equestrian events during the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Kweisi Mfume Pays Tribute to Dr. Michael Zollicoffer with Congressional Record Statement

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07)

BALTIMORE – This week, Congressman Kweisi Mfume honored Baltimore Doctor, Michael L. Zollicoffer, M.D., and his selfless work, at the national level by inserting into the Congressional Record a written statement detailing his impact on the community. When a Member of Congress pays tribute to a constituent in this manner, it becomes part of the official, permanent record of the United States Congress, and part of history.

For decades, Dr. Z, as he’s known to most of his patients, has cared for patients at his urgent care facility, Life Care Plus, in an area of Baltimore City that struggles with poor health outcomes and poverty. Beyond his willingness to practice in an underserved area, Dr. Z is admired by many for never turning away a patient due to their insurance status or because they don’t have enough money.

However, in October of 2024, it was Dr. Z who was diagnosed with renal and colorectal cancer, and, due to paperwork issues with Medicare, he was facing the possibility of being unable to pay for his needed medical treatment.

Upon learning of Dr. Z’s health status, the Baltimore community quickly came together and launched a GoFundMe campaign to help. As of 12:00 p.m., on April 10, 2025, the campaign had raised $271,260 to support Dr. Z’s medical expenses.

Months removed from his diagnosis, Dr. Zollicoffer finished a month of treatment and his Medicare issue has been resolved.

“Mister Speaker, you would be hard-pressed to find another individual with as much passion for healing and love for his community as Dr. Michael Zollicoffer. For his kindness, his selflessness, and his God-given abilities, Dr. Z has been a pillar of the Baltimore community for decades. His cancer prognoses are positive and, God willing, he’ll be practicing in our City for years to come,” wrote Congressman Mfume.

After each day that Congress is in session, the proceedings are printed in the Congressional Record. Full text of Congressman Mfume’s Congressional Record Statement can be viewed below.

HONORING A HERO FOCUSED ON GIVING BACK: DR. MICHAEL L. ZOLLICOFFER, M.D.
    ______

    HON. KWEISI MFUME

    of Maryland

    in the House of Representatives

    Monday, April 7, 2025

Mister Speaker, I rise today to commemorate a beloved native son of Baltimore, Dr. Michael L. Zollicoffer, M.D.. Dr. Z, as he’s known to most of his patients, is a physician of boundless compassion and enthusiasm, and he has spent more than 35 years breaking down barriers to healthcare for all Baltimoreans, regardless of their ability to pay. His clinic has been a ray of hope for the under and uninsured, and his selfless commitment to healing has had major impacts on the wellbeing of his community.

Dr. Michael Zollicoffer is the son of trailblazing pediatrician Dr. Lawrence Zollicoffer, co-founder of Garwyn Medical Center, one of Baltimore’s first Black-owned multi-specialty medical centers. Dr. Z followed in his father’s footsteps by attending the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine located in Chapel Hill; the school that his father helped integrate. While at UNC, Dr. Z was honored with the MacNider Award, a prize given to sophomores with humility, good character, and impeccable personal integrity.

Dr. Z earned his Doctor of Medicine from UNC in 1985 and returned to his hometown to finish his medical training. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in 1988 and remained in Baltimore to begin his own practice. He opened his urgent care facility, Life Care Plus, in an area of our City that struggles with poor health outcomes and poverty.

In the decades since he opened Life Care Plus, Dr. Z has been a guardian angel to the people of the 21215 ZIP Code. Beyond his willingness to practice in an underserved area, what is so remarkable about Dr. Z is that he will never turn away a patient because they don’t have enough money. A pediatrician by trade, he encourages patients to bring in their grandparents for free check-ups, and he’ll happily give patients his personal cell phone number to call him any time, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

Dr. Z’s spirit of generosity has turned his clinic into a family home, and many of the people he treated as children now bring their own kids to the clinic. His incredible value to his community has been repeatedly recognized, with Dr. Z receiving awards like the UNC Harvey E. Beech Outstanding Alumni Award and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s Community Leadership Award.

The love that the people of Baltimore hold for Dr. Z was most clearly shown in recent months, as Dr. Z is now dealing with health struggles of his own. He was recently diagnosed with renal and colorectal cancer, and due to insurance issues, he was facing the possibility of being unable to pay his medical bills. When his patients heard, they leapt into action to create a GoFundMe which has raised more than $250,000 from over 3,000 individual donors. As further proof of his virtue, Dr. Z made clear that every penny that he doesn’t need for his treatment, will go directly into his clinic.

Mister Speaker, you would be hard-pressed to find another individual with as much passion for healing and love for his community as Dr. Michael Zollicoffer. For his kindness, his selflessness, and his God-given abilities, Dr. Z has been a pillar of the Baltimore community for decades. His cancer prognoses are positive and, God willing, he’ll be practicing in our City for years to come.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Following Supreme Court Ruling, Mfume, Colleagues Demand Trump White House Immediately Return Maryland Man Deported in ‘Error’

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representatives Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Steny Hoyer (MD-05), Jamie Raskin (MD-08), Glenn Ivey (MD-04), Sarah Elfreth (MD-03), April McClain Delaney (MD-06) and Johnny Olszewski (MD-02) released the following statement after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Trump Administration must facilitate the return of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Maryland immigrant the administration deported in ‘error’ to a Salvadoran mega-prison where he remains:

“The Trump Administration admitted that the deportation of Mr. Abrego Garcia, which had no legal basis, was done in ‘administrative error,’ and a federal district judge ordered them to return him to the United States by midnight this Monday. Rather than bring back the man they admitted they wrongfully deported without Due Process, the Trump Administration amazingly placed on leave the Justice Department attorney who argued the case simply for telling the truth about the Administration’s ‘administrative error.’

“In a big victory for the rule of law and Due Process, the Supreme Court has just ruled that the Administration must facilitate Mr. Abrego Garcia’s return to the United States. The Supreme Court is effectively on the side of the vast majority of Americans and the civilized world who reject this lapse into lawlessness and insist that Mr. Abrego Garcia be returned to his family in the U.S. immediately.

“The Administration must now act swiftly to ensure that Mr. Abrego Garcia, who was grabbed off the streets of Maryland, shackled, and flown to a Salvadoran mega-prison, is brought back home safely to his loved ones and without any further delay.

“During the first Trump Administration in 2019, Kilmar won withholding of removal, a legal status that specifically prohibits his removal to El Salvador. He was granted this status after the administration accused him, without any evidence, of gang membership and tried to deport him. A judge found instead that he had credibly proven his fear of persecution by a gang in El Salvador and that he posed no threat to public safety.

“The Trump Administration admits it made an ‘error’ deporting Mr. Abrego Garcia. Contrary to what administration officials say, President Trump has both the duty and the power to bring this man back to Maryland to his American wife and child.

“We say to the president that, if you have the means to sweep someone off the street in America and deport him to a torturer’s prison in El Salvador, where we are paying their government as our junior partner for this dubious service, then you certainly have or you can find the means to bring him back. This should be easy since the El Salvadoran government is acting as our agent in the affair as part of this shocking agreement with the Trump Administration.”

“If Trump is allowed to get away with this thorough destruction of Due Process in Mr. Abrego Garcia’s case, he will believe that his administration can sweep anyone—citizen or noncitizen—off the street and ship them to a prison in an authoritarian state and escape judicial review. A whole lot rests on the return of Mr. Abrego Garcia to his family.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Chairman Mills Delivers Opening Remarks at Hearing on Biden Administration’s Far-Left Foreign Policy

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Cory Mills Florida (7th District)

WASHINGTON, D.C.House Foreign Affairs Oversight and Intelligence Subcommittee Chairman Cory Mills (FL-07) delivered opening remarks at a full subcommittee hearing titled, “Deficient, Enfeebled, and Ineffective: The Consequences of the Biden Administration’s Far-Left Priorities on U.S. Foreign Policy.”

    Watch Here

    Remarks

Good afternoon and welcome to the first hearing of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Intelligence in the 119th Congress.

As we start the new Congress, I am looking forward to working with my colleagues to deliver real results for the American people by advancing President Trump’s America first policy’s and agenda.

Over the next few months, through our State Department reauthorization deliberations, this subcommittee will work to identify areas of the Secretary’s Office, or the “S Bureau,” that must be reformed and reprogrammed to reorient the United States as a leader on the world stage while ensuring that taxpayer dollars are effectively used to bolster U.S. national security efforts.

For far too long, the State Department prioritized radical liberal political ideologies and woke policies over advancing diplomatic objectives that serve American interests and protect the American people from our adversaries.

While the Biden Administration was trying to figure out what pronouns to use, our adversaries grew stronger and more emboldened.

China aggressively enforced unlawful territorial claims in the South China Sea and has undermined the United States and our allies at every turn. Russia invaded Ukraine. North Korea ramped up its military provocations. Iran advanced its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile program, empowering its proxies to now cause chaos throughout the Middle East. Israel was attacked and global shipping routes in the Red Sea were blocked.

Over the last four years, among others, the American people watched these foreign policy failures unfold and voted for real change and action on November 5th. The American people gave President Trump and the Republican-led Congress a mandate to reverse the damage and restore common sense to the federal government.

Today, this subcommittee will take its first step to deliver on this mandate by examining the State Department’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion detrimentally influenced operations across the Department by: making DEI a “core precept” for promotion consideration within the ranks of the Foreign Service; granting passport applications the ability to select “X” as a gender; and using taxpayer dollars to fund numerous woke projects, including “commemorating black consciousness month with an event in which employees learned about the inclusion Afro-Brazilian culture through music and LGBTQI+ culture through Vogue dance” in Brazil.

These policies corrupted the core mission of the State Department and we must restore unity and fundamental American principles to the Department, eliminate wasteful spending, and ensure that President Trump’s Executive Orders are fully implemented, not subverted by rebranding DEI-driven programs. It is our duty to ensure that America becomes safer, stronger, and more prosperous.

I want to thank our witnesses for appearing before the subcommittee today.

I look forward to a productive discussion on how we can enhance America’s security through common sense policies and responsible leadership.
