While in Texas, MLA Pitt will attend the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Spring Executive Committee and Energy Supply Task Force meetings. The meetings will reconvene legislators from across the U.S. in collaborative discussions and provide a forum for MLA Pitt to advance conversations on how Alberta and the U.S. can partner in shared prosperity and economic growth though enhanced energy trade.
MLA Pitt will also take her seat at the table when she represents Alberta alongside fellow members of the NCSL’s International Legislative Advisory Committee, building on progress made at previous meetings of the committee last summer, before Christmas and in January of this year.
“It’s time to turn the page and start working together with our U.S. allies on mutually beneficial solutions that will repair and strengthen our important trade relationship. Together, I know that we can begin an era of Alberta-Canada-U.S. partnership that is unrivaled. While in San Antionio, I will drive home Alberta’s role as a reliable, affordable and responsible energy supplier in my conversations with U.S. legislators – conversations that have the potential to contribute to foundational state-level energy policies that will shape the landscape of a secure North American energy future.”
The NCSL, established in 1975 by state legislators and legislative staff, brings together lawmakers and government leaders from all 50 U.S. states, commonwealths, territories and the District of Columbia. The conference promotes cooperation and information exchanges between state legislatures in the U.S. and in other countries. Alberta formalized its role in the NCSL by becoming an affiliate member of the organization and a member of its International Advisory Council last year.

- The U.S. is Alberta’s largest trading partner and Alberta is the second-largest provincial exporter to the U.S. after Ontario.
- In 2024, Alberta’s exports to the U.S. totalled C$162.1 billion, accounting for 88.7 per cent of total provincial exports.
- Energy products, including crude oil, petroleum gasses and ethylene polymers, accounted for about C$133.4 billion, 82.3 per cent of Alberta’s exports to the U.S. in 2024.
- In 2024, Alberta imported about C$25.3 billion in products from the U.S., including energy, machinery, vehicles and plastics. However, these figures are underreported, as they do not account for trans-shipments.
- The U.S. is also an important source of industrial inputs and consumer goods for the province.
