    With the final countdown now on and preparations nearing completion ahead of the Inverness Highland Games this weekend, organisers are getting ready to once again warmly welcome locals and visitors alike to the Games taking place at Bught Park on Saturday, 12 July 2025.

    The event will consist of the main Games (commencing from 10.30am until 6.00pm), followed in the evening by the (now sold-out) Highland Ceilidh, which will begin from 7.00pm.

    Those attending are also reminded that the Highland Council’s in-house bus service will be providing a free-of-charge shuttle service for the Inverness Highland Games from 10am to 6pm.  The shuttle will run between the front of the Highland Council Headquarters Building on Glenurquhart Road to Bught Park throughout the course of the day.

    KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Xinhua) — China and Japan can jointly advance strategic and mutually beneficial China-Japan relations and strive to build constructive and stable bilateral ties that meet the requirements of the new era, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

    Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement during a meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya.

    Noting that China and Japan are important neighbors, Wang Yi noted that the significance of their interstate relations goes far beyond bilateral relations.

    As the Chinese diplomat recalled, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and this is an important opportunity to soberly assess history and pave the way for the future.

    China hopes that Japan will learn profound lessons from history and adhere to the path of peaceful development, Wang continued, adding that on this basis, bilateral relations can inject greater certainty and new impetus into the development of the region and the world as a whole.

    The head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that China’s policy towards Japan always maintains stability and continuity. He expressed hope that the Japanese side will form an objective and correct perception of China and adhere to a positive and rational policy towards China.

    Wang Yi recalled that the four Sino-Japanese political documents contain clear provisions on the Taiwan issue. Japan must strictly abide by them, ensure that words correspond to deeds, and maintain the political basis of interstate relations, the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized.

    Takeshi Iwaya, for his part, noted that recently a number of positive results have been achieved in relations between Japan and China, which demonstrated the proper state of bilateral ties. The two countries, the head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry pointed out, need to further strengthen communication, reduce differences, expand cooperation and promote the stable development of strategic and mutually beneficial Japanese-Chinese relations.

    Speaking about the Taiwan issue, Takeshi Iwaya assured that Japan has not changed its position set out in the 1972 Japan-China Joint Statement.

    Noting that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Takeshi Iwaya said Japan intends to take history seriously, look to the future and continue on the path of peaceful development.

    He added that Japan looks forward to working with China to strengthen exchanges at all levels and advance cooperation in various fields. –0–

    Baku, July 10 (Xinhua) — Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a meeting in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) on Thursday, during which they reaffirmed their readiness to continue direct dialogue on normalizing bilateral relations, according to a press release from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry following the talks.

    The two leaders reiterated that direct bilateral negotiations are the most effective format for resolving outstanding issues. They agreed to continue results-oriented dialogue aimed at achieving sustainable and comprehensive peace.

    The negotiations began in an expanded format with the participation of delegations, after which they continued in a one-on-one format.

    I. Aliyev and N. Pashinyan discussed the course of the border delimitation process and instructed the relevant state commissions to intensify practical work. The parties also reaffirmed their commitment to confidence-building measures and regular bilateral contacts.

    They expressed gratitude to UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for organizing the meeting.

    In March of this year, Azerbaijan and Armenia announced that they had completed the approval of the text of the draft peace agreement and the establishment of interstate relations, which gave rise to cautious optimism about the prospects for a final settlement of the long-standing conflict. –0–

    Moscow, July 10 /Xinhua/ — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations and the global situation, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

    “In development of the agreements reached by the presidents of Russia and the United States, including during their last telephone conversation on July 3, a thorough comparison of watches was conducted on the entire spectrum of issues on the bilateral agenda and the situation in the world. A substantive and frank exchange of opinions took place on the settlement around Ukraine, the situation around Iran and Syria, as well as a number of other international problems,” the statement says.

    It is noted that the mutual commitment to finding peaceful solutions to conflict situations, restoring Russian-American economic and humanitarian cooperation, and unimpeded contacts between the societies of the two countries, which, in particular, could be facilitated by the resumption of direct air traffic, was confirmed.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Four men arrested by Police National Security Department

         The National Security Department (NSD) of the Hong Kong Police Force took enforcement actions on July 9 and arrested four men, aged between 15 and 47, who were suspected of illegally participating in the Hong Kong Democratic Independence Alliance, which was established in China’s Taiwan region and engaged in activities aimed at committing subversion, in contravention of the offence of subversion under Article 22 of the National Security Law. The arrested persons are being detained for investigation.

         The Hong Kong Democratic Independence Alliance was established in 2024 through a social media platform, with the objectives of committing subversion and achieving “Hong Kong independence”. The organisation has publicly expressed its stance in support of secession and subversion on various occasions. Investigation revealed that the arrested persons held different roles within the organisation and were actively involved in its affairs, including planning publicity, liaising with external forces and organising related activities.

         Police stressed that any person or organisation inciting secession, subversion or endangering national security in any form is committing a serious offence. Any person who contravenes the offence of “subversion” is liable to a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Police will ensure that the law is observed and strictly enforced, and will take resolute actions to hold offenders accountable. All illegal acts will be followed up to this end.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Dutch and European business leaders share insights on “Financial Services and FinTech, Business and Professional Services” at annual NHKBA summer event (with photos)

    The Netherlands Hong Kong Business Association (NHKBA), with the support from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels, organised the annual summer event under the theme “Financial Services and FinTech, Business and Professional Services” on July 7 (Amsterdam time) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The event gathered around 100 representatives from Dutch and European business leaders, and Hong Kong representatives to exchange insights on key sectors under the theme. 
     
    Speaking at the event, the Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs to the European Union, Ms Shirley Yung, highlighted the resilience of Hong Kong’s economy amid global challenges. She emphasised, “Under the ‘one country, two systems’ principle, Hong Kong has maintained a solid institutional foundation of the rule of law, independent judiciary, robust regulatory regime, a low and simple tax system, and free flow of people, goods, capital and information, and has remained a trusted gateway to Asia and a market for global capital.”

    Ms Yung cited Hong Kong’s rankings in a number of recent surveys as one of the world’s top three international financial centres, among the top three in global competitiveness, the freest economy in the world, and home to five universities ranked in the world’s top 100.

    She further underlined that financial services remain a pillar of Hong Kong’s economy. She remarked, “Our deep capital markets, efficient banking system, and strong legal and regulatory infrastructure provide an ecosystem in which businesses from around the world can thrive. We are also embracing the future through fintech innovation.” 

    Ms Yung also updated the audience on Hong Kong’s latest efforts to refine financial regulation to balance innovation with investor protection, including the recent completion of legislation on stablecoins. She also discussed Hong Kong’s leading role in green and sustainable bond issuance in Asia.

    The NHKBA annual summer event concluded with networking sessions and engaging discussions on how Dutch and European enterprises can benefit from Hong Kong’s role as a “super connector” between Europe, Asia, and China. The evening culminated in a dinner reception, at which the Secretary for Justice, Mr Paul Lam, SC, spoke on Hong Kong’s distinctive advantages of enjoying strong support from the motherland while being closely connected to the world under the “one country, two systems” principle.

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Commissioner of Customs and Excise visits Urumqi Customs and attends launching ceremony of Fuzhou Customs District’s Fujian-Guangdong-Hong Kong Single E-lock Scheme (with photos)

    ​The Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Mr Chan Tsz-tat, yesterday (July 9) completed his four-day visit to the Urumqi Customs District and the Fuzhou Customs District. He attended the launching ceremony of the Fuzhou Customs District’s Fujian-Guangdong-Hong Kong Single E-lock Scheme during his visit.

    During July 6 to 8, Mr Chan visited the Urumqi Customs to meet with the Director General in the Urumqi Customs District, Mr Hao Weiming. The two exchanged views on the promotion of Hong Kong’s economic and trade ties and exchanges with Xinjiang, as well as the exploration of co-operation opportunities and enhancement of collaboration between the two sides. Mr Chan also visited the Urumqi International Land Port, the Operation Monitoring and Inspection Control Centre of the Urumqi Customs District, and the Kalasu Ground Crossing to learn more about the intelligent cargo monitoring and customs clearance process of the China-Europe Railway Express in Urumqi. He expressed hope that both sides could reinforce the complementary strengths of the country’s southern and western gateways to contribute to the stability of the supply chain between Asia and Europe in the future.

    During the visit, Mr Chan and the Vice Chairman of the People’s Government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Mr Zhu Lifan, toured the Khunjerab Ground Crossing Gateway, which is under the Urumqi Customs and has an altitude reaching 5 100 metres, to understand its significance in safeguarding the smooth operation of the China-Pakistan economic corridor and national security. They also discussed issues of mutual concern. Afterwards, they visited the Shuibulanggou Party Spirit Education Base.

    Yesterday, Mr Chan went to Fuzhou to continue his visit and attended the launching ceremony of the Fujian-Guangdong-Hong Kong Single E-lock Scheme in Fuzhou Customs. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chan said that the official launch of the first Customs clearance point of the Scheme in Fuzhou Customs will help further promote interconnections and the flow of goods between Fujian, Guangdong and Hong Kong, marking a new breakthrough in clearance facilitation and co-operation between Mainland and Hong Kong Customs. Meanwhile, Mr Chan said he hopes that the extension of the Scheme to Fuzhou Customs would enhance the efficiency of cross-boundary intermodal transportation, bring Fuzhou’s various products to overseas markets, and consolidate and strengthen Hong Kong’s status and competitiveness as an international maritime centre, international aviation hub and international logistics hub, creating a win-win situation for trade between the two places.

    At the event, the first transportation truck carrying transshipment goods departed from the first clearance point in Fuzhou Customs District through the Scheme, and arrived at Hong Kong International Airport via the Shenzhen Bay Control Point this morning (July 10), where the goods were transshipped to overseas destinations. Fujian-Guangdong-Hong Kong Customs could streamline the clearance process and expedite the flow of cargo transshipments by reducing duplicated inspections of the same consignments under the Scheme.

    In Fuzhou, Mr Chan also separately met with member of the Leading Party Members Group of Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government Mr Zhang Fan; the Deputy Director General of the Guangdong Sub-Administration of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Feng Guoqing; and the Deputy Director General in the Fuzhou Customs District, Mr Lin Yuefei. He expressed his gratitude for their dedicated support and co-ordination in extending the Scheme to Fuzhou Customs District, and had discussions on leveraging opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development and deepening co-operation.

    Following Xiamen Customs District, Fuzhou Customs District is the second Customs District to implement the Scheme in Fujian Province. Hong Kong and Mainland Customs will continue to proactively expand the Single E-lock Scheme by establishing more clearance points in both places, and plan to extend the Scheme to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to attract more cargoes to Hong Kong for transshipment and increase the competitiveness of Hong Kong’s shipping and logistics sector.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Governor Ivey Announces Medicaid Commissioner Stephanie Azar to Chair State Employees’ Insurance Board, Appoints Bo Offord as Agency Commissioner

    MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey on Thursday announced she will appoint Bo Offord to serve as commissioner of the Alabama Medicaid Agency. Stephanie McGee Azar, after leading the Medicaid Agency for over 13 years, will become the chief executive officer of the State Employees’ Insurance Board of Directors (SEIB).

    “As Alabama’s longest consecutively serving Medicaid commissioner, Stephanie Azar has proven herself a skillful manager of the state’s public health insurance program for low-income families,” said Governor Ivey. “She successfully directed annual Medicaid budgets for more than 13 years and shepherded the passage of legislation to create and fund the first Alabama Medicaid Reserve while maintaining a balanced budget. I am grateful to Stephanie for her years of invaluable service, and I am confident she will continue to serve the state well through her new position at SEIB.

    “Meanwhile, Bo Offord has diligently helped guide the Alabama Medicaid Agency for close to two decades, serving as assistant general counsel, deputy general counsel and general counsel. He has demonstrated the necessary expertise to ensure the Agency remains on the sound footing Commissioner Azar established, and I look forward to his leadership as he assumes his new role of Medicaid commissioner.”

    A graduate of The University of Alabama and Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, Offord began practicing law in 2007. Since he joined the Alabama Medicaid Agency in 2010, he has represented and advised the Medicaid Agency in probate, circuit and appellate matters, as well as in complex federal regulatory issues.

    “It is an honor to be appointed by Governor Ivey to serve as the next commissioner of the Alabama Medicaid Agency,” said Offord. “I am sincerely thankful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Alabama in this capacity. I had the privilege to work with Commissioner Azar for 15 years, witnessing firsthand her professionalism and leadership. I am certain she will have nothing but success at the State Employees Insurance Board.”

    BOISE — Attorney General Raúl Labrador won a unanimous Idaho Supreme Court victory affirming his authority to investigate alleged misuse of government grants issued to charitable organizations in the state of Idaho. The Court reversed the ruling that blocked the Attorney General from obtaining information from 19 grant recipients. The Court affirmed his authority to issue civil investigative demands (CIDs) under the Idaho Charitable Assets Protection Act (“ICAPA”), the Idaho Charitable Solicitation Act (“ICSA”), and the Idaho Consumer Protection Act. Under this investigative authority, the Attorney General may issue CIDs to any person who he has “reason to believe” possesses relevant information regarding a suspected violation of ICAPA and ICSA.  “The Idaho Supreme Court unanimously confirmed we have full authority to investigate potential misuse of charitable funds and to seek information from anyone who may have relevant knowledge,” said Attorney General Labrador. “We have worked cooperatively with many entities throughout this process. Those who have worked with us understand that our goal is not to punish grant recipients but to ensure taxpayer funds were used according to state law. We will continue to defend the investigative powers the Legislature has entrusted our office.” In 2021, the Idaho Legislature established the Community Partner Grant Program using American Rescue Plan Act funds provided by Congress to help states address COVID-19’s impact on school-aged children, including learning loss. The Legislature appropriated a total of $72 million—$36 million in 2021 and $36 million in 2022—with specific restrictions requiring the funds be used only for in-person educational and enrichment activities serving children ages 5 through 13. In 2023, Attorney General Labrador received reports alleging certain grant funds were improperly used contrary to statutory requirements. He issued Civil Investigative Demands to grant recipients and others who the Attorney General believed might have knowledge of the alleged misuse of charitable funds.  The Court determined that grant funds fit within the statutory definition of charitable donations, giving the Attorney General clear authority to seek information under Idaho’s charitable protection laws. The Court ruled that the Attorney General can demand information from anyone he has reason to believe possesses relevant knowledge about suspected violations. The Court held that a single request for information within one of the 35 investigative demands was overbroad and remanded it to the district court, while upholding the Attorney General’s authority to seek relevant information. The Court declined to award attorney fees.

  • MIL-OSI Europe: EU Member States join programme supporting EU exports to Ukraine

    Ten EU Member States – Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain – have joined InvestEU’s Ukraine Export Credit Pilot, a guarantee facility backed by the European Investment Fund (EIF), part of the European Investment Bank Group. Three more countries are expected to join the programme soon. 

    Under the programme, national export credit agencies in each country each country will receive an EIF-backed guarantee for national exporters of goods and services to Ukraine. They are also eligible for support from InvestEU Advisory services.

    The guarantees help reduce financial risks and keep exports flowing – from machinery and building materials to critical technologies – while also supporting Ukraine’s deeper integration into the EU single market and its longer-term path toward EU membership.

Erasmus+ is commonly known as a student learning mobility programme, but it actually consists of a wide array of other actions to bolster the potential of European youth.   • MIL-OSI Europe: Study – Traceability of critical raw materials, with a focus on Africa – 10-07-2025

    The traceability of critical raw materials along the supply chain is pivotal in meeting wider public demands for corporate sustainability and complying with relevant regulations from the European Union that contain requirements for responsible sourcing and the transparency of supply chains. This paper serves as a technical and logistical primer on traceability mechanisms, focusing on upstream mining in Africa – the part of a mineral supply chain from extraction to transformation. It compares and classifies the industry’s existing approaches to traceability based on the minerals targeted, implementation mechanisms, the use of technology and validity. Emphasis is placed on functional mechanisms, benefits and challenges. Particular attention is paid to comparing industrial methods with artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) approaches. ASM, which forms a significant proportion of the market of specific critical raw materials, is the most exposed to abuse but has high rates of livelihood dependence and developmental potential. This paper makes recommendations on: the complementarity, interoperability and integration of initiatives; the role of state and non-state actors for compliance and enforcement; and the potential for including ASM.

    Recent reporting by the Financial Times[1] revealed that staff from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change participated in a controversial post-war Gaza reconstruction plan, amounting to a proposal for the forced displacement of Palestinians, raising legitimate fears of ethnic cleansing, which is contrary to international law. The Tony Blair Institute has also issued invitations to a summer reception at the BELvue Museum in Brussels on Tuesday 15 July 2025, naming Commissioner McGrath as the Institute’s ‘special guest’, describing the event as an opportunity for policy dialogue in a rapidly changing world.

    Can the Commission confirm whether Commissioner McGrath will attend this event and provide his reasons for so doing?

  • MIL-OSI Europe: Answer to a written question – Türkiye’s entry into the European Defence Industry must be prevented – E-001014/2025(ASW)

    It is not for the Council to comment on media reports, or on business decisions of individual economic operators.

    At the same time, the Council recalls that the European Council, at its meeting on 6 March 2025, stressed that Europe must become more sovereign, more responsible for its own defence and better equipped to act and deal autonomously with immediate and future challenges and threats with a 360° approach.

    In doing so, the Union will reinforce its overall defence readiness, reduce its strategic dependencies, address its critical capability gaps and strengthen the European defence technological and industrial base accordingly across the Union so that it is in a position to better supply equipment in the quantities and at the accelerated pace needed.

    This will also contribute to boosting European industrial and technological competitiveness. The above is without prejudice to the specific character of the security and defence policy of certain Member States, and takes into account the security and defence interests of all Member States, in accordance with the Treaties.

    Recently, there have been an increasing number of reports from European countries relating to the existence of organised networks of fake youth organisations that are certified under the Erasmus+ programme and receive funding via the competent national agencies in the Member States[1].

    In Greece, according to the last four Erasmus+ evaluations announced by the Greek national agency competent for the programme (INEDIVIM – EL-02), a number of approved applicants could be found neither physically nor online. They have no online or social media presence, they are not known to local communities and they are not actively involved in Greek youth civil society.

    In view of the above, can the Commission say:

    • 1.What measures will it take to tackle fake organisations that have a PIC number and submit applications using artificial intelligence?
    • 2.How can it check whether the Greek national agency for Erasmus+ (INEDIVIM – EL-02) has approved or funded entities that do not exist?
    • 3.Does it intend to request the assistance of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office for an in-depth review of the use of European funds under the Erasmus+ programme?

    Beyond the legal considerations, the decision to release such an amount at the current time is a serious moral and political failure: how can financial support such as this for a non-EU country be justified when winegrowers in France and across Europe are on the brink of collapse, and essential funding is lacking?

    Given the foregoing:

    • 1.Where exactly do the funds for this subsidy come from?
    • 2.Does the Commission intend to activate all possible political and legal levers to suspend or reverse this funding?
    • 3.Will the Commission only react when tractors are rolling over the cobblestones of the Schuman roundabout?

    The principle of subsidiarity requires decisions to be taken at the lowest practical level of government without, however, jeopardising mutually beneficial cooperation at the supranational level. Recent decades have seen efforts to strengthen the subsidiarity principle in EU law, including the introduction of the well-known early warning mechanism (EWM) for national parliaments. At the same time, the principle of subsidiarity remains a contested notion. This has important implications for the regulatory, political and judicial bodies monitoring compliance with the principle. In this context, commentators have called for a better (and shared) understanding of the principle and have formulated a number of suggestions as to how to monitor compliance with the principle more effectively.

    It has been nearly 10 years since the ambitious European Rail Traffic Management System project was introduced and, in particular, its integral component the European Train Control System (ETCS). From the outset, the project has had the praiseworthy vision of creating a single train signalling and control system in Europe. The expected benefits include smoother operation, fewer local specifics, a reduction in the number of signalling systems needed per unit (or locomotive) and increased track capacity. However, the implementation is facing significant challenges, including significantly higher than anticipated costs and a current lack of demonstrable benefits.

    In the light of the above, can the Commission answer these questions:

    • 1.What specific steps are being taken to ensure that the original vision materialises and delivers benefits to the railway sector, including both railway undertakings and infrastructure managers?
    • 2.What measures are being taken to ensure that burdensome local specifics, such as an abundance of ETCS system compatibility tests per track, are avoided?
    • 3.By which year will there be a sufficient set of complete and equipped international corridors that allow railway undertakings to reduce the national signalling systems on their units (or locomotives) and their associated cost?

  • MIL-OSI Europe: Answer to a written question – Guaranteeing the continuation of UNRWA’s work in Palestinian territories illegally occupied by Israel – E-000431/2025(ASW)

    While the full extent of the consequences of the Israeli legislation adopted on 28 October 2024 on UNRWA’s capacity to fulfil its mandate in the occupied Palestinian territory is not yet clear, the EU has recalled[1],[2] its deep concern in this regard, has repeatedly stressed[3],[4],[5] the essential role of UNRWA, which provides crucial support to the civilian population in both Gaza and the wider region, and has condemned any attempt to obstruct it. Continued implementation of the UNRWA Action Plan is key[6],[7],[8].

    The EU has deplored the breakdown of the ceasefire in Gaza, which has caused a large number of civilian casualties in recent air strikes. It has called for an immediate return to the full implementation of the ceasefire-hostage release agreement, and stressed the importance of unimpeded access and sustained distribution of humanitarian assistance at scale into and throughout Gaza[9].

    Since 7 October 2023, the EU and its Member States working as Team Europe have acted quickly to mobilise over EUR 1.16 billion in humanitarian assistance, which has been channelled through humanitarian partners on the ground (international and local humanitarian organisations).

    In addition, the EU has been providing in-kind assistance by land, air and sea. As of 5 February 2025, over 4 000 metric tonnes of humanitarian cargo were supplied by humanitarian partners, EU-owned stockpile items, and donations from Member States[10].

    Concerning the EU-Israel Association Agreement, the Council recalls its reply to Written Question E-001357/2024. The European Union and Israel held the thirteenth meeting of their Association Council on 24 February 2025 in Brussels.

    The parties engaged in a political dialogue, focusing on the conflict in Gaza and Israeli-Palestinian relations, regional issues including Iran, and global issues.

    The discussion also covered EU-Israel bilateral relations. The European Union presented its position[11], including that, pursuant to Article 2 of the Association Agreement, relations between the Parties, as well as all the provisions of the Agreement itself, are to be based on respect for human rights and democratic principles, which guide their internal and international policy and are an essential element of the Association Agreement.

    As for further engagement with the parties concerned, it may also be noted that the first ever High-level Dialogue meeting between the European Union and the Palestinian Authority took place on 14 April 2025.

    The European Commission announced its proposal for a multiannual Comprehensive Support Programme worth up to EUR 1.6 billion, to foster Palestinian recovery and resilience.

    Andrzej Poczobut, a Polish-Belarusian journalist and activist, has been imprisoned in Belarus since 2021 on politically motivated charges. He was sentenced to eight years in a penal colony for defending the rights of the Polish minority and free speech. He is reportedly being held in extremely harsh conditions, denied adequate medical care, and subjected to psychological pressure.

    The EU has issued statements condemning his detention, but no visible progress has been made. In light of his deteriorating health and the broader repression in Belarus:

    • 1.What concrete diplomatic actions has the Commission taken, together with the European External Action Service, to secure his release?
    • 2.Has the EU engaged in or initiated any form of direct or indirect dialogue with the Belarusian authorities or third-party intermediaries?
    • 3.Is the Commission considering any tangible incentives (e.g. humanitarian aid, sanctions adjustments, prisoner exchanges) to facilitate his release?

    Declarations of concern are no longer enough. We expect precise, results-oriented action to protect European citizens and values abroad.

  • MIL-OSI Europe: Answer to a written question – End of customs exemption for small packages worth less than EUR 150 – E-001548/2025(ASW)

    On 17 May 2023, the European Commission put forward proposals for the most comprehensive reform of the EU Customs Union since its establishment in 1968.

    Since then, a multi-presidency negotiation of this complex reform package, which represents a complete shift in paradigm, has been on the agenda.
