On May 20, 2025, the first Summer School of the Eurasian Network University began its work in Bishkek with the participation of teachers from the State University of Management.

The initiative belongs to Kyrgyzstan, so Bishkek became the host city, where 25 best graduating students from Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan arrived. They were divided into teams representing the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. Professors from the best universities of the EAEU, including from the State University of Management, work with them.

Students are taught leadership, teamwork and public speaking skills. Classes have a minimum of theory, and real situations are simulated during the learning process.

Deputy Head of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements of the State University of Management Artem Savostitsky: “We try to make the learning process as exciting as possible. That’s why we use interactive formats. This is a business game where decisions are made and tested in practice during the game instantly. That is, the student does not just listen, but acts and understands which decisions were ineffective.”

In addition to the educational program, students will also have a cultural one – excursions around Bishkek and trips to the cultural centers of Kyrgyzstan are planned.

Let us recall that the Eurasian Network University was established in 2022. It is a scientific and educational consortium that includes 32 universities from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan. The ENU Secretariat is located at the State University of Management, and Vice-Rector Dmitry Bryukhanov was reappointed to the position of Head of the Secretariat at the 10th meeting of the ENU Coordination Council in March this year.

BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) — On the occasion of International Museum Day, a China-Uzbekistan joint archaeological team held an event aimed at educating the public about archaeology, according to the website of Northwest University of China (NWCU), which is located in Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi Province.

More than 50 local students and schoolchildren were invited to the archaeological site of Çınartepa and familiarized themselves with the archaeological excavation process and discoveries.

The Chinese-Uzbek archaeological team was created by the SZU and the Samarkand Archaeological Institute of Uzbekistan. In 2019, experts from both sides discovered the remains of settlements and burials from the Kushan Empire period (1st-4th centuries) near the village of Chinar in the Surkhandarya region of this country. From April to June 2024, experts conducted the first joint excavations of the site with an area of 25 thousand square meters.

During the excavations, more than 20 burials and a rectangular ash pit with a large number of ceramic net weights and a jug with two handles were discovered.

Judging by the findings, the inhabitants of the Kushan Kingdom more than 1,600 years ago were engaged in agriculture and fishing, growing wheat, rice, grapes and other types of garden crops.

However, the Kushan Empire maintained contacts with the Celestial Empire. According to notes discovered during excavations in Gansu Province, ambassadors from this kingdom visited Chang’an, the modern city of Xi’an, while traveling along the Great Silk Road.

During the presentation of the achievements of archaeological research, as noted in the SZU, the unique attractiveness of archaeology for the activation of humanitarian contacts between China and Uzbekistan was demonstrated. -0-

BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) — A train loaded with 1,610 tons of feed wheat flour arrived from Almaty to Wuhan, capital of central China’s Hubei Province, on Tuesday.

This batch of flour will be delivered to local feed factories. Let us recall that the special train delivered agricultural products from Central Asia to Hubei Province for the first time, writes the Changjiang Ribao newspaper /Yangtze Daily/.

To meet Hubei Province’s demand for feed raw materials, in recent years, regular China-Europe/Central Asia railway services have opened routes linking the province with cities in Kazakhstan, including Uralsk and Kokshetau.

Currently, textiles, electronic products, automobiles and other goods are shipped from Hubei to Central Asia. At the same time, a warehouse for goods from Kazakhstan’s Turkestan region has been established in Wuhan.

Two more freight trains carrying agricultural products are expected to leave Kazakhstan for Wuhan by the end of this month. The volume of such products imported from Central Asia to Hubei will exceed 500,000 tons per year.

According to statistics, Wuhan’s Wujiashan Station has handled a total of 293 China-Europe/Central Asia freight trains since the beginning of this year. -0-

TIANJIN, May 21 (Xinhua) — A direct freight train route has opened between the north Chinese port city of Tianjin and the Uzbek capital Tashkent. The first train departed on Tuesday at about 4 p.m. Beijing time, carrying 50 containers of cargo brought by sea from the Republic of Korea to Tashkent within two weeks.

For Uzbekistan, China is the largest trading partner and the largest source of exports of goods, among which electromechanical products are one of the leading items. As the operator of the new railway route reported, the above-mentioned train mainly transports auto parts, as well as some types of mechanical equipment, engineering construction materials and consumer electronics.

The representative office of JSC Uzbekistan Railways in China indicated the importance of opening a new cargo route for Uzbekistan, as well as for the entire transport system of Central Asia, noting that the direct route has reduced the cargo transportation route from Tianjin to Uzbekistan by more than 800 km compared to previous routes passing through the cities of Xi’an, Hami or Urumqi.

The Uzbek side expects that this route will be able to serve as an alternative corridor for multimodal cargo transportation for import-export enterprises, combining rail and sea transport, the representative office stated.

Industry analysts are also convinced that the opening of the direct Tianjin-Tashkent railway route will further strengthen international freight logistics between Tianjin and other member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which will bring new energy to trade and economic cooperation within the SCO. -0-

The next day, they docked to the forward-facing port of the station’s Harmony module.
Hague, Gorbunov, Wilmore, and Williams returned to Earth on March 18, 2025, splashing down safely off the coast of Tallahassee, Florida, in the Gulf of America.
Williams and Wilmore traveled 121,347,491 miles during their mission, spent 286 days in space, and completed 4,576 orbits around Earth. Hague and Gorbunov traveled 72,553,920 miles during their mission, spent 171 days in space, and completed 2,736 orbits around Earth. Hague has logged 374 days in space during two missions. It was the third spaceflight for both Williams and Wilmore. Williams has logged 608 total days in space, and Wilmore has logged 464 days.
Pettit launched aboard the Soyuz MS-26 spacecraft on Sept. 11, 2024, alongside Roscosmos cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner. The seven-month research mission as an Expedition 72 flight engineer was the fourth spaceflight of Pettit’s career, completing 3,520 orbits of the Earth and a journey of 93.3 million miles. He has logged a total of 590 days in orbit. Pettit and his crewmembers safely landed in Kazakhstan on April 19, 2025 (April 20, 2025, Kazakhstan time).
The Expedition 72 crew dedicated more than 1,000 combined hours to scientific research and technology demonstrations aboard the International Space Station. Their work included enhancing metal 3D printing capabilities in orbit, exploring the potential of stem cell technology for treating diseases, preparing the first wooden satellite for deployment, and collecting samples from the station’s exterior to examine whether microorganisms can survive in the harsh environment of space. They also conducted studies on plant growth and quality, investigated how fire behaves in microgravity, and advanced life support systems, all aimed at improving the health, safety, and sustainability of future space missions. Pettit also used his spare time and surroundings aboard station to conduct unique experiments and captivate the public with his photography. Expedition 72 captured a record one million photos during the mission, showcasing the unique research and views aboard the orbiting laboratory through astronauts’ eyes.
For more than 24 years, people have lived and worked continuously aboard the International Space Station, advancing scientific knowledge, and conducting critical research for the benefit of humanity and our home planet. • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: Education chief joins London forum

    Source: Hong Kong Information Services

Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin attended the Education World Forum 2025 in London on May 19 where she highlighted Hong Kong’s experience in achieving quality and equity in education.

Under the five key themes this year, namely Stability, Equity, Quality, Innovation and Growth, Ms Choi shared Hong Kong’s practical experience with education ministers and senior officials from various countries and regions.

This year, the forum focused on the development of inclusive education systems that drive equitable and sustainable socio-economic growth. In her keynote speech titled “How & why should education systems improve equity & increase quality?”, Ms Choi introduced Hong Kong’s policy measures and achievements in providing quality and equitable education.

She said that, in achieving quality education, Hong Kong has been participating in various international assessments to understand more about the capabilities of Hong Kong students and the key factors that shape their learning effectiveness.

Hong Kong students’ overall performance in both the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the Trends in International Mathematics & Science Study exceeding the international average is a testament to the brilliance of students, the teaching effectiveness of schools and teachers, and the strengths of Hong Kong’s education system.

The Education Bureau attaches great importance to teachers’ continuing professional development. To enhance teachers’ professional competencies, the bureau has been providing diversified training programmes, organising teacher professional development programmes in collaboration with local, Mainland and overseas universities, and offering scholarships to encourage teachers to participate in overseas exchanges and training activities.

In terms of education equity, PISA results showed that the family background and socio-economic status of Hong Kong students had a relatively small impact on their performance, reflecting that Hong Kong’s education system enables equal education opportunities.

To ensure that every student has access to quality education, the bureau has developed a broad and balanced 15-year school curriculum framework, and in addition to engaging students in a diverse range of life-wide learning activities, it offers various programmes to support e-learning.

The bureau has also been providing non-Chinese speaking students with all-encompassing learning support and implementing the Whole School Approach to Integrated Education.

Apart from delivering the keynote speech, Ms Choi met several UK education officials, including UK Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson, UK Minister of State (Minister for School Standards) at the Department for Education Catherine McKinnell and UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Children & Families) at the Department for Education Janet Daby, to discuss the strengthening of education collaboration between the two places.

Additionally, Ms Choi met education officials from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Papua New Guinea and Sri Lanka attending the forum to explore room for education collaboration between Hong Kong and Belt & Road countries. She also met an official of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology to discuss the strengthening of education co-operation.

Ms Choi then visited Imperial College London to learn about its experience in the promotion of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics) education in secondary and primary schools, as well as the preparation of the relevant teaching materials for schools.

Furthermore, Ms Choi paid a courtesy call on Chinese Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang to introduce the latest education developments in Hong Kong.

On May 20, the education chief will meet local education officials to discuss enhancing higher education collaboration between the UK and Hong Kong. She also plans to exchange views with representatives of several UK universities and share Hong Kong’s latest developments in building into an international education hub.

Ms Choi will conclude her visit on the same day and return to Hong Kong.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: MIR is now in Iran – the geography of the Russian payment system cards has expanded

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

    Source: Mainfin Bank –

How does the integration of payment systems work?

The integration of the MIR payment system from the Russian Federation and Shetab from Iran has been ongoing in recent years – within the framework of an agreement signed by the heads of the central banks of the states. The interaction takes place in three stages:

In the summer of 2024, Shetab cardholders were given the opportunity to withdraw money from self-service terminals in Russia; now Russians can make purchases at cards MIR in Iran, but in a limited number of locations – where Spaparak terminals are installed; in the near future, Iranians will also be able to pay for purchases with their cards in the Russian Federation.

Acceptance of Russian cards in Iran is available for MIR plastic with contactless payment function – transactions via NFC (payment by smartphone) also work. For small purchases, entering a PIN code is not required.

In which other countries can Russians pay with MIR cards?

The geography of MIR cards has been steadily expanding since the departure of key payment systems from Russia – unconditional acceptance of plastic is available in Belarus, Abkhazia, Ossetia, and Cuba (they are planning to issue MIR cards on the island). Plastic is accepted with restrictions in a number of CIS countries, as well as in popular destinations among Russian tourists, including Vietnam, Laos, and the Maldives.

“Given the difficult geopolitical situation, tourists traveling abroad are advised to stock up on cash and purchase “All Inclusive” tours in order to protect themselves as much as possible from possible financial problems with Russian cards,” the expert noted.

At the same time, in 2024, due to the risk of secondary sanctions, several countries refused to work with the NPS “MIR”, including Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Uzbekistan and Turkey. Negotiations on the possible integration of payment systems are ongoing with India, Indonesia, Mexico, Egypt and Thailand.

  • MIL-OSI Economics: China Round Table on WTO Accessions, focusing on Arab economies, concludes in Muscat

    Source: WTO

Headline: China Round Table on WTO Accessions, focusing on Arab economies, concludes in Muscat

Entitled “Advancing Arab Economies: From Strategic Accessions to Global Trade Integration”, the 13th China Round Table highlighted the benefits of WTO membership for economic policy coherence, growth and development. With the aim of informing the strategies of other acceding economies, the event explored how accession has enabled Arab economies to reform their trade regimes and engage more effectively with the multilateral trading system. The challenges that members faced immediately following their accession were also examined.
A high-level session celebrated the 25th anniversary of Oman’s WTO accession and recognized the challenges that Oman faced on its path to accession, as well as the contributions that Oman has made to the multilateral trading system.
Opening the Round Table, Oman’s Undersecretary for Commerce and Industry, Dr Saleh bin Said Masan, said: “Since joining the WTO in November 2000, Oman has been an active and committed member of the multilateral trading system. It has always regarded membership of the WTO as a strategic step towards enhancing its role in the global economy and deepening its co-operation with countries around the world.”
Highlighting the importance of the China Round Table in fostering cooperation among nations, Dr Saleh added: “It seems timely to consider efforts to restore the central role of the WTO as a platform for resolving global trade issues. The WTO should serve the interests of all countries, regardless of their level of economic development, in line with the principles enshrined in its founding agreement.
In addition to acceding economies, participants at the Round Table included the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states – namely, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates – and representatives of the International Trade Centre (ITC), United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the World Bank Group. Comoros, which became a WTO member in August 2024, also participated in the Round Table.
China’s Vice Minister of Commerce, Mr Yan Dong, said: “The 13th China Round Table is a unique opportunity to discuss how to help developing countries speed up accessions and benefit from the multilateral trading system. … As the global landscape undergoes rapid changes unseen in a century, accelerating accessions of developing countries, especially LDCs, to the WTO, and better integrating them into the multilateral trading system is conducive not only to their economic resilience and recovery, but also to the vitality and representation of the WTO.”
WTO Deputy Director-General Xiangchen Zhang said: “Oman’s journey since 2000 shows how the multilateral trading system can underpin bold diversification and outward-looking reform.”
Underscoring the relevance of the 13th China Round Table, DDG Zhang noted: “These round tables have supported many acceding countries in their journeys, and we expect that they will continue to make further progress for the rest of the year. Eight members of the Arab League remain outside the WTO and seven of them have been negotiating, on average, for twenty years. … These numbers speak of untapped potential – potential that accession can unlock by anchoring domestic reforms, attracting investment and fostering regional integration. … Pragmatic solutions, creative flexibilities and targeted technical assistance can minimize years of negotiations and deliver concrete development dividends.”
The Round Table addressed the state of play of current accession negotiations in the context of preparations for the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC14), to be held in March 2026, with Ethiopia and Uzbekistan stating that they intend to complete their accession processes by MC14. The discussion also highlighted the need to better leverage technical assistance and capacity-building activities to support both accession efforts and new members’ participation in the WTO.
Participants also explored the role of the private sector in facilitating WTO accession and promoting regional integration. A dedicated session on Oman’s economic diplomacy provided insights into how trade can contribute to economic resilience, long-term peace and sustainable prosperity.
Acceding governments and interested WTO members meet annually at the China Round Table to discuss the integration of new economies into the rules-based multilateral trading system. Of the 22 members of the League of Arab States, 14 are WTO members, seven are currently undertaking the accession process, and one has held observer status in WTO ministerial conferences since 2005.
More information on the 13th China Round Table is available here.
The China Round Tables are among the activities of the China Programme, which supports and finances activities under six pillars:
An accessions internship programme at the WTO
Annual China Round Tables on WTO accessions
Increasing participation of LDCs in WTO meetings
South-South dialogue on LDCs and development
Follow-up workshops to LDCs’ Trade Policy Reviews
    An LDC Experience Sharing Programme.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: China and Uzbekistan have created a joint archaeological center

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: People’s Republic of China in Russian – People’s Republic of China in Russian –

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhua) — The Archaeological Institute of North China’s Shanxi Province, the Shanxi Province Museum and Fergana State University (Uzbekistan) recently established a joint archaeological center in Uzbekistan.

The opening ceremony of the Fergana-Shanxi Archaeological Center and the Laboratory for the Protection and Restoration of Cultural Monuments was held at the Fergana State University in the city of Fergana. At the same time, a multimedia exhibition “The Age of Yu Hong /533-592/” was opened at the said university, according to the website of the Cultural Heritage Protection Department of Shanxi Province.

Yu Hong is a native of Central Asia. He was sent on a mission to the Celestial Empire and then stayed and held a high position.

The exhibition is said to allow visitors to deepen their understanding of the cultural landscape of the Silk Road and Central Asia.

The Great Silk Road, formed more than 2,000 years ago as a trans-Eurasian highway, facilitated economic and cultural exchanges between China and the West. The Sogdians, who inhabited the territory of Sogdiana from the middle of the 1st millennium BC, actively participated in trade along this route. One of the representatives of the Sogdians is considered to be Yu Hong, who came to the Celestial Empire more than 1,400 years ago and “established roots” in its territory, shared the director of the Archaeological Institute of Shanxi Province Fan Wenqian.

Both sides, according to him, will cooperate in the field of joint archaeological research, training of specialists, protection of cultural monuments and organization of exhibitions.

Rector of Fergana State University Bakhodirjon Shermukhammadov noted the ancient history of contacts between Central Asia and China. He expressed confidence that cooperation with China will contribute to the development of archaeological research at the university.

The interaction between the two sides clearly demonstrates the modern significance of the Great Silk Road. Fergana State University is trying to serve as an example of Uzbek-Chinese cultural exchanges and cooperation, he added.

Let us recall that in 1999, an ancient tomb was discovered in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province. According to the epitaph, a native of Central Asia was buried there, who bore the Chinese surname and name Yu Hong.

It became one of the sensational events in the archaeological community. Yu Hong’s tomb was listed as one of the top 10 archaeological discoveries in China that year. The white marble sarcophagus and other exquisite cultural relics unearthed during the excavation were displayed in many countries and regions around the world, including the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. -0-

KUNMING, May 17 (Xinhua) — Russian businesswoman Ekaterina Savelyeva recently signed a contract to supply 240,000 carnations to Russia at the Deruyer flower base in Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province.

“Yunnan flowers are popular in the Russian market due to their excellent quality and rich variety of varieties,” said E. Savelyeva.
