March 30, 2025No. 084A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on March 28, causing significant casualties and vast property damage. In response, Taiwan’s government and nongovernmental organizations quickly mobilized needed resources. Through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Myanmar, the Taiwan government expressed concern to the government of Myanmar and conveyed Taiwan’s readiness to assist in rescue operations. While Myanmar was formulating a coordinated response, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung instructed TECO in Myanmar to establish a single contact window (email: mmr@mofa.gov.tw; phone: +95-9-427355550) to ensure that Taiwan’s assistance efforts could proceed smoothly. It would be responsible for coordinating and tallying the forms of assistance that related Taiwan agencies and groups could provide and then contacting the Myanmar government, affected areas, and related institutions, as appropriate. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) stresses that the government of Taiwan is both able and willing to provide assistance. It also appreciates that Taiwanese NGOs have shown initiative and are working together to extend care and support to people in affected areas, highlighting Taiwan’s humanitarian concern. MOFA hopes that the concerted efforts by the Taiwan government and civil society can help speed up postdisaster reconstruction in Myanmar so that people there can rebuild their homes and resume a normal life. MOFA response to Belgian Foreign Ministry’s 2025 policy statement and Foreign Minister Prévot expressing concern over cross-strait developments

    March 30, 2025

The Belgian Foreign Ministry in March submitted a 2025 policy statement to the Chamber of Representatives. The statement reaffirmed its support for the EU Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific policy report, issued by the European Union in 2021, and called for the maintenance of harmony and stability in the Indo-Pacific. Referring to China’s escalating threats toward Taiwan in recent years, it pointed out that China had expanded military drills around Taiwan and continued to deliberately undermine social stability in Taiwan. The statement also emphasized that an invasion of Taiwan by China would have significant political and economic consequences for Europe. It urged all related parties to uphold the status quo across the Taiwan Strait and avoid taking any provocative actions that could trigger a conflict.

Furthermore, in response to questions on the policy statement raised by the Chamber of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee on March 26, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot expressed concern over China’s recent escalation of military activities around the Taiwan Strait. He emphasized that Belgium should remain highly vigilant to developments in the region and do its utmost to uphold the status quo across the Taiwan Strait.

The 2025 policy statement issued by the Belgian Foreign Ministry marked another statement of significant concern regarding the cross-strait situation following the Belgian coalition government’s inclusion of Taiwan-friendly content in its coalition agreement in February. In addition, on March 20 the Belgian Chamber of Representatives adopted, by an overwhelming majority, a resolution expressing concern regarding the growing threat of China to Taiwan. This underscores the high level of consensus and support shared by the Belgian administration and parliament for ensuring the status quo of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highly welcomes their support and looks forward to deepening bilateral exchanges and cooperation with Belgium so as to jointly safeguard the rules-based international order and advance peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.

  • MIL-OSI China: Director: ‘Sandstorm’ blends mystery with social commentary

Source: China State Council Information Office 3

Director Tan Jiayan described his new series, “Sandstorm,” as both a gripping suspense drama and a social cautionary tale, exploring how choices made in times of hardship ultimately shape people’s destinies.

“After reading the script, I found it brilliant and deeply literary, exploring the relationships between people and their environment, and between individuals and fate,” Tan said. “This is truly a great story.”

“Sandstorm,” directed by Tan and written by Zhao Dongling, stars Duan Yihong, Wang Qiang, Zhang Jianing and Zhang Yao. The online series, which premiered on Youku on March 28, follows two detectives – one a seasoned veteran, the other a young newcomer – as they reopen an 8-year-old murder case, risking everything to expose the truth.

At a March 24 preview, screenwriter Zhao revealed the show was inspired by a prosecutor’s account of a disturbing case. The image of a charred body retrieved from an industrial boiler became the foundation for the story that examines the human condition under extreme circumstances.

Tan highlighted Zhao’s admiration for the American series “Fargo,” which influenced her storytelling style. He also reflected on the symbolic significance of the series’ title: “It suggests how a sandstorm engulfs everything, including the complexities of human nature, leaving it all trapped in the tempest.”

Set in a small town, “Sandstorm” delves into universal tensions that echo through communities across China. Praised for its suspense and intensity, the series reveals how a close-knit frontier community hides connections that link seemingly unrelated lives with dramatic consequences.

“We repeatedly discussed the series’ core theme, which is how the environment shapes people’s lives,” Tan said. “Here, we see some striving to leave this town, while others are forced to stay. Once this theme crystallized, we realized that a desert town would be the ideal setting.”

The cast and crew of “Sandstorm” ventured deep into the deserts, working in harsh conditions and using a documentary-style approach to capture the region’s essence. The landscape also sharpens the series’ core tensions: light and darkness, secrets and truth, sin and redemption. The rugged landscape is a character in its own right, grounding the story and heightening its emotional depth.

The script went through multiple revisions as the team worked to develop each character’s arc, including creating a character who writes a book titled “Sandstorm” in the series. “In this small town, some yearn to leave, others choose to stay, and some are forced to remain. These are all ordinary people living on society’s margins. Once we understood each character’s psychological motivations, their choices and destinies naturally fell into place,” Tan explained.

Tan was particularly struck by the lead role of a veteran policeman, played by Duan Yihong. The character originally planned to leave the town but is forced to stay due to unforeseen circumstances. Burdened by guilt and self-reproach over his mentor’s fate, he opts for self-exile, working at a prairie police station. Years later, when the murder case is reopened, he returns to confront his past and uncover new truths.

“What’s remarkable about Duan Yihong is that, despite playing many iconic police roles throughout his career, his character in ‘Sandstorm’ is entirely unique – a new archetype unlike anything he’s done before. For an actor to consistently reinvent the same profession with such breakthroughs isn’t just surprising; it’s extraordinary,” Tan said.

The cast and crew of “Sandstorm” pose for a photo with the audience at a preview event in Beijing, March 24, 2025. [Photo courtesy of Youku]

In just 12 episodes, “Sandstorm” weaves together two cases spanning eight years while delving into multiple character arcs, each with fully developed stories.

Tan stressed the importance of realist storytelling throughout the creative process. “At its core, realism explores human nature and interpersonal dynamics,” Tan said. “Works grounded in realism share a universal truth: They depict a world where characters act according to their own logic and perspectives.”

Screenwriter Zhao revealed that the story took three years to perfect, from concept to final script. She credited Tan’s analytical rigor for strengthening the narrative’s logic and the cast for bringing emotional depth to their roles.

“Ultimately, tragedy should be more than a puzzle to solve – it ought to function as a mirror that reflects both our era and human nature,” Zhao said. “I hope ‘Sandstorm’ can serve as that mirror, allowing viewers to see, even after the dust settles, the people caught in the currents of time still struggling to find their way.”

    March 31, 2025

Japan’s Minister of Defense Gen Nakatani met with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on March 30 in Tokyo. During the meeting, they expressed concern over China’s military activities around Taiwan and reiterated opposition to China’s attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force or coercion in the East and South China Seas. Underscoring the importance of maintaining cross-strait peace and stability, the two sides stressed that they would bolster cooperation with regional partners Australia, the Republic of Korea, and the Philippines to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific.

This was the first meeting of the defense chiefs of the United States and Japan since Secretary Hegseth took office. Coming on the heels of the February Japan-US summit, the meeting saw the two countries reiterate the importance they attached to cross-strait issues, highlighting the high degree of consensus in the global democratic camp for cross-strait peace. It was also further evidence that peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait are indispensable to the promotion of a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung affirms and welcomes the continued expression of staunch support for cross-strait peace and stability by Japan and the United States at important international venues, as well as the two sides’ concern for China’s challenge to the global order. Minister Lin also stresses that Taiwan will abide by the spirit of integrated diplomacy and continue to cooperate closely with like-minded countries to uphold democracy and universal values, develop democratic non-red supply chains, and promote peace, stability, and prosperity across the Taiwan Strait and in the Indo-Pacific region.

March 31, 2025Chief Adviser of the interim government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during a visit to Beijing from March 27 to 29. The two sides issued a joint statement on March 28 that made spurious claims in referring to the so-called “one China principle” and to Taiwan being an inalienable part of China’s territory. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) solemnly refutes these claims. MOFA reiterates that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is an independent and sovereign country; that neither the ROC (Taiwan) nor the People’s Republic of China is subordinate to the other; and that no claim seeking to distort Taiwan’s sovereign status can alter the internationally recognized status quo across the Taiwan Strait. The government of Taiwan will staunchly safeguard national sovereignty and dignity and work with friendly and like-minded countries to protect the values of freedom and democracy and ensure regional peace, stability, and development. MOFA calls on Bangladesh to adopt an open and pragmatic stance; strengthen economic and trade cooperation and substantive relations across all domains with Taiwan; and proactively contribute to democracy, peace, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

    No. 086

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army Eastern Theater Command launched joint military drills around Taiwan on April 1, under the pretext of serving as “a stern warning to and powerful deterrent against separatist forces agitating for Taiwan independence.” This marked a renewed challenge to the rules-based international order and a serious unilateral attempt to jeopardize peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and the region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) strongly denounces China and urges it to immediately halt unwarranted military provocations.

China has recently conducted military intimidation and maritime gray-zone operations near New Zealand and Australia, in the South China Sea, and near the Republic of Korea, Japan, the Philippines, and Taiwan. Its relentless actions aimed at challenging the international order and undermining the regional status quo demonstrate incontrovertibly that China is a destabilizing force in the region and beyond.

Maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is a matter of international consensus and serves the interests of all parties. However, China intractably continues to conduct military drills to intimidate Taiwan and neighboring countries, unilaterally seeking to alter the cross-strait and regional status quo. Such actions seriously undermine peace, stability, and security in the Indo-Pacific and do not serve to improve its international image. MOFA calls on China to stop such behavior and return to norms.

As a responsible member of the global community, Taiwan will work in concert with like-minded nations to jointly safeguard global and regional peace, stability, prosperity, and development. (E)

April 2, 2025On April 1, the spokesperson of the European External Action Service (EEAS) released a statement regarding China’s large-scale military drills targeting Taiwan. The statement pointed out that the drills are increasing cross-strait tensions and reiterated that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are of strategic importance for regional and global security and prosperity. The European Union (EU) has a direct interest in the preservation of the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and opposes any unilateral actions that change the status quo by force or coercion. The EU calls on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that may further escalate tensions, which should be resolved through cross-strait dialogue. This is the third time the EEAS has expressed timely concern over China’s unilateral actions increasing cross-strait tensions. The previous two times were responses to China’s Joint Sword military exercises last year. The White Paper for European Defence – Readiness 2030 released this March by the European Union points out that China has been rapidly expanding its military capabilities and intensifying its political, economic, military, and cyber and cognitive measures to coerce Taiwan. It emphasizes that the shifting Taiwan status quo could have profound economic and strategic consequences for Europe. Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung affirms and welcomes the EU’s continued demonstration of staunch support for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait through concrete action. MOFA also stresses that Taiwan, as a key country in the Indo-Pacific region and a responsible member of the international community, will continue to strengthen cooperation with the EU and other allies to safeguard freedom and openness in the Indo-Pacific region, uphold the rules-based international order, and together protect regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity.

April 2, 2025The United States Department of State released a statement on April 1 in which it pointed out that China was once again escalating tensions through aggressive military activities and rhetoric targeting Taiwan, and thereby jeopardizing regional security and global prosperity. The statement added that in the face of China’s intimidation tactics and destabilizing behavior, the long-standing US commitment to Taiwan and other allies and partners remained unchanged. It also reiterated US support for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and opposition to the use of force or coercion to unilaterally alter the status quo. Moreover, in responding to media questions on April 1, the White House press secretary said that US President Donald Trump emphasized the importance of maintaining peace across the Taiwan Strait, encouraged peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues, and reiterated US opposition to any unilateral attempt to change the status quo by force or coercion.Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung thanks the White House and State Department for reiterating US support of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and its opposition to the use of force or coercion to change the status quo; for clearly pointing out China’s threat to Taiwan and regional security; and for noting that China’s behavior undermines the status quo. With China frequently conducting military activities and gray-zone harassment around Taiwan, the international community understands clearly that China is the troublemaker in the Taiwan Strait and globally and that it is China that is attempting to challenge the status quo. As a responsible member of the international community, Taiwan will continue to work with the United States and other allied nations to jointly ensure peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and across the Taiwan Strait, safeguard a free and open Indo-Pacific region, and defend the rules-based international order. Taiwan also calls on all countries to jointly monitor China’s gray-zone coercion of Taiwan—including military intimidation and lawfare—as well as its actions that unilaterally escalate regional tensions.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Postgraduate student of Samarkand University Sanzhar Kenzhaev: “Everything is perfectly organized at the Polytechnic”

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

Source: Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University – Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University –

A postgraduate student of the Samarkand State University named after Sharaf Rashidov, Sanjar Kenjaev, spent one semester at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University under the academic mobility program, working on algorithms for intelligent processing of heterogeneous data. In this interview, Sanjar shares his impressions of cooperation with Russian colleagues, talks about the difficulties and achievements, as well as plans to implement his developments in Uzbekistan.

    — Sanzhar, why did you decide to go to the Polytechnic?

    — I studied in Uzbekistan, majoring in System Analysis, Information Processing, and Management. We were offered several universities for an internship, and the St. Petersburg Polytechnic was the closest to my topic. I wrote to the teachers — they agreed to accept me. In addition, there is a memorandum of cooperation between our universities, which simplified the process.

    — What exactly did you do during your internship?

    — My dissertation is devoted to algorithms for intelligent processing of heterogeneous data. The tasks were ambitious: to optimize the storage and processing of data, including unstructured data, in real time. Under the guidance of Polytechnic professors, for example, Vadim Pak, I finalized the chapters of the dissertation, participated in seminars and prepared articles for conferences. It is important that there is an opportunity to use the capacity of the SPbPU supercomputer — this significantly accelerated the experiments.

    — What achievements can you highlight?

    — We managed to adjust the title of the dissertation to a more precise one — “Algorithms for Intelligent Processing of Heterogeneous Data”. In collaboration with colleagues from the Polytechnic University, we prepared four articles for international conferences. We also agreed on the remote participation of SPbPU professors in further research in the laboratories of SSU.

    — How do you like Saint Petersburg and the university?

    — The city amazed me with its atmosphere, although the sun is a rare guest here. But this is compensated by the openness of the people. Everything is organized perfectly at the Polytechnic: a clear schedule, teachers are always in touch, libraries and laboratories are equipped with the latest technology. I remember how professors instantly connected colleagues from other departments to solve complex issues — this is an indicator of the level of teamwork.

    — Were there any difficulties?

    — There were no problems with the language — I know Russian well. But I had to worry about the documents: registration, access control… But I think this is a general situation for Russia, and not specific to the Polytechnic.

    — How did you communicate with other graduate students?

    — There were guys from different countries living in the dormitory: China, Iraq, Lithuania. We discussed scientific tasks, shared conference contacts. We even found common topics with those whose direction was different. It’s just a pity that I didn’t get to the Interclub events — I learned about them too late.

    — What are your plans after returning to Uzbekistan?

    — I want to develop cooperation between SSU and SPbPU: offer exchange programs and summer schools to students. I have already discussed the possibility of joint projects with colleagues. And also — continue research using data from the partner UzInfocom. Well, after a successful defense, I will remain in the academic environment — teach and, of course, constantly collaborate with the international department.

    — What advice would you give to future postgraduate students who want to go to the Polytechnic?

    — Don’t be afraid to take the initiative! The teachers here appreciate your interest. And be sure to participate in conferences — this is a great chance to make yourself known. And yes, take warm clothes with a hood — the St. Petersburg weather requires it.

  • MIL-OSI China: Innovation thrives in north China’s ‘city of the future’

Source: China State Council Information Office

Stepping into the exhibition hall of Mech-Mind Robotics, a Chinese unicorn company, visitors are captivated by a robotic arm that responds to voice commands and precisely grasps intricate workpieces.

With its expertise in equipping traditional robotic arms with “eyes” and “brains,” Mech-Mind Robotics has become one of the leading enterprises in its field, exporting products to over 50 countries and regions.

Last year, the company relocated its headquarters from Beijing to the Xiong’an New Area in north China’s Hebei Province, aiming to thrive in this “city of the future.”

“Our company has evolved from 0 to 1 and from 1 to 10, and we believe Xiong’an is a good place for us to advance from 10 to 100, or even 10,000,” said Zhang Dan, head of the president’s office at Mech-Mind Robotics.

In April 2017, China decided to establish the Xiong’an New Area as part of a strategy to promote the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. Xiong’an was designed to be a smart and livable city that is innovative, green and free from “urban ills.”

This futuristic city, with an urban landscape that has gradually taken shape over the past eight years, has a strong appeal for high-tech companies like Mech-Mind Robotics, with many opting to locate themselves in Xiong’an New Area Zhongguancun Science Park.

Founded less than two years ago, the science park has already attracted more than 140 companies. Carrying forward the innovative spirit of Beijing’s Zhongguancun, once known as “China’s Silicon Valley,” it is striving to become a paradise for businesses of all sizes seeking to break new ground.

One such startup is Xiong’an Xingyuan Technology Co., Ltd., which has quickly made its mark in this burgeoning science park. Since launching a year ago, the company has been developing advanced technologies, including metaverse, large-scale virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI).

Gong Wentong, CEO of Xiong’an Xingyuan, has been impressed by the business-friendly environment encountered at this location since his company’s inception. He recalled obtaining his business license on the same day the company was registered — and noted that the science park facilitates networking events linking startups and established local enterprises, thereby helping entrepreneurs like him access potential business opportunities.

Through such interactions, Xiong’an Xingyuan has developed cooperative relationships with enterprises in need of technological support. “We plan to cooperate with an elderly care service company, using our VR technology to help senior citizens enjoy immersive travel experiences and social activities,” said Gong.

Gong’s satisfaction was echoed by Wang Ling, deputy general manager of Zhijue Intelligent, a small company focusing on the application of LiDAR technology.

In an interview with Xinhua, Wang not only referred to multiple opportunities to communicate with her peers in the science park, but also spoke highly of the favorable policies issued by local authorities.

In recent years, Xiong’an has responded to the national call for innovation-driven development through a raft of incentive measures to pool talent from various sectors — especially those involved in aerospace information, AI, new materials, and other cutting-edge industries, aiming to build a high-standard platform for innovators.

As part of these efforts to foster entrepreneurship, competitions have regularly been held to support outstanding innovation projects. Wang’s team won one such competition — receiving housing subsidies, workspace allowances and extra bonuses as reward for their victory.

There was a time when living conditions in Xiong’an were a great concern for Wang, but the rapid development of the city has since dispelled her doubts and worries. With a batch of public facilities, including schools and hospitals, gradually put into use, people like Wang are now able to relocate their entire families to this city — thus embarking together on a new life journey.

“We feel that we are being pushed forward by the surrounding opportunities here,” Wang told Xinhua, adding that she even introduced her friends to new possibilities in this area.

Wang’s experience epitomizes the dynamics of innovation shaped by collaboration between government and market entities — a process that delivers benefits to all stakeholders, with companies thriving, talent converging and all citizens enjoying the fruits of innovative development.

“This year, we will step up efforts to build an industrial cluster featuring AI and robotics,” said Liu Jingjing, general manager of the science park. Liu also said that more companies are expected to arrive in Xiong’an and contribute to its scientific and technological innovation.

  • MIL-OSI China: Five cities eye globally attractive consumption

Source: China State Council Information Office

China will accelerate the transformation of five major cities — Shanghai; Beijing; Guangzhou, Guangdong province; Tianjin; and Chongqing — into global consumption centers on par with New York and London, and create globally attractive retail environments, as part of the country’s latest moves to boost consumption.

The document, formulated by the Ministry of Commerce, said China aims to further expand domestic demand and promote high-standard opening-up.

The country will actively promote the debut economy by supporting high-quality domestic and foreign brands to launch new products and exhibitions, and providing Customs clearance convenience for new imported products.

The government will support the holding of events such as fashion weeks and car expos in these five cities. It will also work to attract high-quality global brands to launch their first stores, establish research and development design centers as well as regional headquarters, the document said.

It is critical to adapt to local conditions for developing the debut economy. Shanghai has been doing well in attracting debuts of global brands in China and launching pop-up stores, the ministry said.

In the recently delivered Government Work Report, boosting consumption was listed as a top priority among this year’s tasks.

As part of measures to build global consumption centers, China plans to further expand its unilateral visa-free entry policy in an orderly manner, and better leverage the role of tax refund stores and tax refund policies by opening more such stores and optimizing tax refund procedures for overseas visitors.

Since late 2023, China has launched unilateral visa-free policies for multiple countries, encouraging more overseas travelers to visit the nation. Last year, the number of inbound foreign visitors in the above-mentioned five cities doubled the 2023 figures, said the National Immigration Administration.

“In those five cities, the number of tax refund stores for overseas visitors accounted for 60 percent in the country last year, and total sales made up for over 70 percent of the value nationwide,” said Li Gang, director-general of the department of market operation and consumption promotion of the Ministry of Commerce, during a news conference earlier in Beijing.

Besides trendy products, foreign tourists have also favored domestic time-honored brands and specialty products. Tong Ren Tang, a venerable traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy, has seen a growing number of foreign visitors take advantage of tax refund procedures at its stores in the Qianmen area of Beijing, and the products they buy mainly include traditional Chinese patent medicines and medicinal materials.

Compared to overseas metropolises, there is still a gap between China and developed countries. The government will guide the building of a group of featured commercial complexes, and encourage sales of more domestic trendy products at tax refund stores, the ministry said.

In addition, China plans to organize various large-scale consumption promotion activities, support the hosting of more high-level international sporting events and performances, and increase the supply of high-quality services.

In late March, the 2025 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix took place in Shanghai, attracting fans from home and abroad. The guideline noted that China plans to hold more motor racing events, foster new consumption scenarios such as recreational vehicle camping, and further expand the aftermarket consumption of automobiles.

Meanwhile, China will encourage the innovative growth of the cruise market and low-altitude tourism. The country will also promote the application of technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality and big data in the consumption market, and accelerate the promotion of smart home appliances, new energy vehicles and other smart products, the document said.

In the first two months, total retail sales of consumer goods in China reached 8.37 trillion yuan ($1.15 trillion), up 4 percent year-on-year, with the growth rate 0.5 percentage point higher than the whole year figure last year, the ministry said.

  • MIL-OSI China: Micro dramas, video games, online literature: Chinese digital content goes global

Source: China State Council Information Office 3

Through the global expansion of micro dramas, video games and online literature, Chinese digital works have become part of their daily entertainment for many international audiences.

Chinese micro-drama platforms have achieved considerable reach, with over 300 apps accumulating more than 470 million downloads worldwide across more than 200 countries and regions, according to the National Radio and Television Administration.

One prominent example is ReelShort, a micro-drama platform under Crazy Maple Studio. Its minute-long episodes, featuring intense plot twists and rapid story development, have quickly gained a large following — and are mostly watched on smart devices.

“Last year we explored new formats by localizing Chinese micro dramas for global distribution and co-producing content with Hollywood crews. Now, we have hundreds of staff locally,” said Nan Yapeng, vice president of Crazy Maple Studio.

The gaming sector has seen similar breakthroughs. “Black Myth: Wukong,” a 3A video game with cutting-edge graphics, has captivated global players, while established gaming hits like “Genshin Impact” and “Honkai: Star Rail” continue to rank among the top downloaded items in over 100 countries and regions.

Data from the China Audio-video and Digital Publishing Association (CADPA) show that China’s gaming industry reported overseas revenue of 18.56 billion U.S. dollars in 2024 — up 13.39 percent compared with the previous year.

Games like “Genshin Impact” and “Black Myth: Wukong” demonstrate China’s cultural innovation by skillfully blending traditional heritage with global fantasy elements, said Xue Ke, deputy dean of USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

This creative fusion of ancient stories and interactive experiences not only resonates worldwide but also maintains authentic Chinese roots, Xue added.

Recognition also extends to online literature. In November 2024, the British Library expanded its Chinese collection by adding 10 online novels by Chinese authors, including “Lord of the Mysteries,” “Soul Land” and “The Joy of Life.” This library first added Chinese online literature to its collection in 2022.

In 2023, total revenue of China’s online literature industry in the overseas market amounted to 4.35 billion yuan (about 606 million U.S. dollars), a 7.06 percent year-on-year increase, according to a report from the CADPA.

Notably, the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) also brings new opportunities for the global expansion of China’s digital content.

WebNovel, an online reading platform, added over 2,000 AI-translated works in 2024 alone, while gaming giant miHoYo has filed hundreds of patents in AI, cloud gaming and other technologies, achieving procedural content production for 3D rendering.

“AI technology will help boost the global expansion of Chinese culture, transforming content exports from premium offerings to large-scale distribution,” said Li Ming, CEO of NewTV, an internet television media platform.

  • MIL-OSI China: New discoveries in prehistoric culture shed light on origin of Chinese civilization

Source: China State Council Information Office 3

Archaeological discoveries in many regions of China have injected new vitality into the study of Hongshan culture, an important prehistoric archaeological culture dating back roughly 5,000 to 6,000 years.

Hongshan culture’s distribution covers three regions, which are located in the west of Liaoning Province, the north of Hebei Province and the east of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Among these, Liaoning is the core area in terms of Hongshan culture distribution and the focal region for studying this culture.

    NEW DISCOVERIES

Multiple Hongshan culture sites were discovered in the city of Lingyuan, in northeast China’s Liaoning Province, said the provincial institute of cultural relics and archaeology in March.

The found sites are located in the Wubaiding site complex, where archaeologists from the institute conducted a systematic archaeological survey covering approximately 285,000 square meters.

During this survey, archaeologists collected pottery shards and stone artifacts from various periods and found a total of 53 sites, among which four have been confirmed as relic sites of Hongshan culture.

These archaeological exploration efforts have revealed the composition and spatial distribution characteristics of the relic sites, which provides detailed evidence for the study of the social norms of late Hongshan culture, said Yu Huaishi, a researcher from the institute.

Meanwhile, in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, three new jade dragons were unearthed in 2024, marking the largest number of such artifacts to be found in recent years — offering new evidence of the brilliance of ancient Chinese civilization.

A jade dragon, measuring 15.8 cm in length, 9.5 cm in width and 3 cm in thickness, was excavated from a stone tomb in Yuanbaoshan in Aohan Banner, the city of Chifeng in Inner Mongolia. It is the largest jade dragon ever discovered, providing valuable new insights into the study of this ancient civilization. Alongside the dragon, over 100 other jade artifacts, including rings, discs, silkworms and owls, were also found.

Chifeng, the birthplace of Hongshan culture, has more than 700 known Hongshan sites. The discovery of the Yuanbaoshan site adds to the region’s rich archaeological heritage.

According to Dang Yu, a researcher at the regional institute of cultural relics and archaeology, the Yuanbaoshan site dates back about 5,000 years and represents a late Hongshan culture burial and ceremonial complex.

    HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

The Niuheliang site, discovered in 1981 in the city of Chaoyang, Liaoning, represents a milestone in the study of China’s Hongshan culture. A large number of exquisite jade articles, painted pottery, stone tools and stone tombs were unearthed there.

According to Wang Xuanlong, curator of the Niuheliang relic site museum, the Niuheliang site, centered on the temple of the goddess and surrounded by altars and stone tombs, is a large-scale prehistoric burial and religious worship site independent of the residence. It was the place where Hongshan people worshiped both their ancestors and heaven and earth more than 5,000 years ago.

“The ruins and buildings of Niuheliang reflect the early state form of the combination of theocracy and royal power, and are important witnesses of the origins of civilization in China and even Northeast Asia,” said Guo Dashun, an expert in Hongshan culture who had previously presided over Hongshan culture excavations.

Archaeological excavation endeavors regarding Hongshan culture reveal the continuity and unity of migration and evolution from north to south and to the Central Plains, which strongly proves that the Chinese civilization has not stopped since its birth, provides key support for figuring out the early development of Chinese civilization, and serves as the core link for exploring the origins of Chinese civilization.

Notably, Hongshan, Lingjiatan and Liangzhu are known as the three major jade cultural centers in prehistoric China. Although more than 1,000 km apart, Hongshan culture experienced close exchanges with the Lingjiatan and Liangzhu cultures, according to Sun Jinsong, director of the Inner Mongolia regional institute of cultural relics and archaeology.

“The jade owl of Hongshan culture and the jade eagle of Lingjiatan culture both reflect the prehistoric ancestors’ yearning and reverence for flying. The shape of the jade dragon unearthed from Liangzhu is very close to that of Hongshan culture jade carving. It is this kind of exchange and integration that eventually merged into the diversified and integrated Chinese civilization,” Sun said.

The jade ritual system and jade culture, which originated from Hongshan culture and gradually expanded to East Asia, have become important sources of the unique cultural identity of Chinese civilization — and have profoundly influenced the etiquette system and cultural traditions of later generations.

    MODERN INHERITANCE

The legacy of Hongshan culture continues to thrive in modern life. In the city of Chifeng, themed research activities have been organized, directly involving children by letting them make pottery and jade articles by themselves, thereby allowing them to immerse themselves in the charm of Hongshan culture. Symphonies and plays have also been staged to reveal more about this culture.

“We will make further efforts in terms of the protection of these relics sites and the pursuit of their inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List, with the aim of making Hongshan culture shine with new brilliance in Chifeng and to make this culture the pride and love of the people,” said Zhang Guohua, vice mayor of Chifeng.

In the future, via the deep integration of science and technology and culture, Hongshan culture is expected to break through geographical and time boundaries, enabling it to reach a wider audience with the assistance of technologies such as digital display and virtual reality.

At the Niuheliang national archaeological relic site park, an archaeological team is ready to continue the archaeological excavation efforts — seeking to reveal more secrets about the social organization structure, religious beliefs and economic life of Hongshan culture, while injecting new vitality into the study of ancient civilizations.

  • MIL-OSI China: Preserving ancient books for present and future

Source: China State Council Information Office 3

At 30, Li Yangyang never imagined that her degree in international business would lead her to a career in ancient book restoration. From starting as a novice in the workplace to founding her own restoration studio, she spent six years carving out a niche in this specialized field.

Today, she not only restores valuable ancient texts but also inspires lots of young people to engage with this traditional craft through social media. Li’s journey reflects the transformation of ancient book restoration from a perceived “old craft” into a vibrant, emerging field amid a broader revival of traditional culture.

In 2017, Li, a native of Wuhan in Hubei province, had just graduated from college and was exploring various job opportunities. Despite trying several roles, she felt unfulfilled.

One day, she came across a cultural technology company looking for ancient book restorers and offering training to apprentices with no prior experience. Intrigued, she submitted her resume and got the job.

For Li, ancient book restoration was an entirely new field. The company paired her with experienced colleagues for hands-on training and frequently invited renowned industry experts to give lectures.

After an intensive six-month apprenticeship, she began taking on simple restoration tasks independently.

Restoring ancient books is more challenging than it appears. A typical restoration project involves over 20 steps, including photographing for archival purposes, preparing paper materials, disassembling books, cleaning, binding, and more.

Depending on the extent of the damage, Li can restore anywhere from 30 pages to just one or two pages a day, with fees ranging from 20 to 200 yuan per page.

“Book bricks” is the colloquial term restorers use for ancient books that have hardened into solid blocks. Some books are so damp that the pages stick together completely, and even the initial step of “flattening the pages” can take an entire day, with the slightest mistake risking a tear.

Aesthetics pose another significant challenge. Ancient book restoration isn’t just about “patching up” — the proportions of the margins and the color of the backing paper must align with the original book’s character.

Li believes that working in ancient book restoration, especially for beginners, requires a sense of reverence and a calm mindset.

“Before starting a restoration, you must ask yourself: Can my skills handle this? If not, it’s better to seek help from a master rather than risk making things worse,” she explained. “Over-restoration can be more damaging than leaving the book untouched.”

Li also advised that if you’re feeling emotionally overwhelmed, it’s best to avoid working on ancient books. She recalled a time when she nearly crumpled a book in frustration.

“Being overly joyful, laughing, or joking around isn’t ideal either. Even cutting a millimeter too much can make restoration impossible later on.”

  • MIL-OSI China: Beijing exhibition showcases China’s lunar exploration achievements

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

The China National Space Administration and the National Museum of China jointly launched an exhibition at the Beijing Museum on Tuesday, showcasing the history and achievements of the nation’s lunar exploration efforts.

The space administration said in a news release that the exhibition covers the historical background, milestones in research and development, major accomplishments, future plans in the Chang’e program, and a host of precious documents and items.

The two-month exhibition is the first in a series of events to publicize the spirit and knowledge about the Chang’e programs, it noted.

In January 2004, the central government approved plans for the first phase of the Chang’e program, marking the formal opening of China’s lunar exploration mission.

After nearly four years of preparations, the first spacecraft stemming from the program — Chang’e 1 — was launched in October 2007 from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province. It was tasked with verifying China’s lunar probe technologies, obtaining lunar images and performing scientific surveys.

Since then, the country has made remarkable strides in lunar exploration in an incremental manner.

The Chang’e 3, launched in December 2013, was the first spacecraft to soft-land on the moon and touch down on lunar soil in nearly four decades since the Soviet Union landed its last lunar probe on the moon in August 1976. It released the first Chinese lunar rover, Yutu, on the moon.

The Chang’e 4, launched in December 2018, landed on the far side of the moon, becoming the first spacecraft to closely observe the little known “dark side of the moon”. The probe also deployed a rover named Yutu 2.

In November 2020, the Chang’e 5 was launched to become China’s first lunar sample-return mission. The probe landed on the moon’s near side and recovered 1,731 grams of samples, the first lunar substances obtained since the Apollo era. It made China the third nation, after the US and the former Soviet Union, to retrieve lunar samples.

So far, Chang’e 5 samples have enabled Chinese researchers to achieve a number of academic advancements, including the discovery of the sixth new lunar mineral, named Changesite-(Y).

Changesite-(Y), which falls in the category of lunar merrillite, is the first lunar mineral discovered and identified by Chinese scientists.

The most recent mission, the Chang’e 6, was launched in May 2024, representing the world’s first attempt to bring back samples from the far side of the moon.

After a series of complex maneuvers, the lander of the Chang’e 6 probe touched down at the South Pole-Aitken Basin on the lunar far side and worked for 49 hours, using a mechanical arm and a drill to collect surface and underground materials.

The unmanned mission successfully concluded in late June, retrieving a total of 1,935.3 grams of samples from the far side.

The samples have unique scientific value and will further expand knowledge about the moon’s history and help to gear up the exploration and exploitation of lunar resources, according to the space administration.

These plans laid out in the lenders’ 2024 annual results announcement conference showed that major State-owned commercial banks are capitalizing on their strengths while responding to national policies to deliver high-quality financial services for the development of private enterprises, said Lou Feipeng, a researcher at Postal Savings Bank of China.

“These measures effectively address financing difficulties and high costs faced by private businesses, streamline loan accessibility and amplify the positive role of private enterprises in driving China’s economic development,” Lou said.

By expanding credit supply to private enterprises and reducing financing costs, banks have adopted highly targeted measures to alleviate the financing difficulties and high costs faced by micro, small and medium-sized private sector firms, he added.

Looking ahead, Lou said that banks need to intensify market research tailored to private enterprises of diverse scales and industries, focusing on targeted financing difficulties, to enhance the precision of financial services and elevate efficacy in serving the private sector.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Scientists from Novosibirsk State University presented new type of training devices for forensic experts

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

Source: Novosibirsk State University – Novosibirsk State University –

The II International Scientific and Analytical Forum “Digital Law” was held at the “Boiling Point – Novosibirsk” of Academpark. The event was organized by Novosibirsk State University (Institute of Philosophy and Law), Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Law School of Heilongjiang University (PRC).

    — We hold many joint events with the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, but today, thanks to cooperation with Heilongjiang University, we are already reaching the international level of discussing the problems of legal regulation in the field of information technology. The Forum program includes many reports on various aspects of digital law. And all this suggests that its topic is becoming more and more relevant every year, the emergence of new technologies entails the emergence of new tasks and conflicts that need to be resolved with the help of legal mechanisms, — noted Vladimir Diev, Director of the Institute of Philosophy and Law of NSU, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, in his speech.

The forum program opened with a report by Doctor of Law, Professor of the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Forensic Science at NSU Roman Borovskikh, dedicated to the university’s developments in the field of new technologies for training future forensic scientists.

    — Forensic science is an applied science, it requires honing certain skills, which is best done at a testing ground. But it is not always possible to create a full-scale, physical testing ground, and here its virtual version comes to the rescue. Simulators are used in many areas of training specialists — in cosmonautics, medicine, and others. We have applied this approach in jurisprudence, — he said.

Modeling of training scenarios on simulators is carried out in several directions. First of all, lines of models are built on the investigation of different types of crimes: violent against the person (murder, rape, etc.), property (various thefts), economic, official, etc. Within each such line there is a gradation depending on a specific situation in which the investigation takes place – place, time, situation, etc.

    — Our simulators are based on the idea of a computer game, a quest, but at the same time they incorporate the entire arsenal of forensic tools for investigation, evidence collection, verification of versions, and so on. That is, they allow you to simulate the situation of investigating certain types of crimes in a game form. And the first lessons on them have already aroused great interest not only among students, but also among our fellow practitioners and scientists, — emphasized Roman Borovskikh.

In addition to NSU students, participants of the first international student festival of cybercriminology were able to work on cyber simulators CRIMELABE Fest-2024, organized by the university last fall. The event was a success, and Roman Borovskikh invited all the forum participants to take part in the next festival, which will take place approximately in September 2025.

It can be expected that by that time the list of situations simulated on virtual training grounds will expand even more – simulator developers are constantly improving their product.

    — Not long ago, we formed a working group, which included university employees as theorists and employees of the Investigative Committee as practitioners. The goal is to improve this educational technology. In particular, we added to the range of simulated situations the investigation of an airliner crash, sabotage at infrastructure facilities. And we continue this work. I think we will be able to show a lot of interesting things at the next festival, — Roman Borovskikh summed up.

WATCH: Padilla Joins Booker’s Marathon Floor Block to Condemn Trump Administration’s Attacks on the Environment, California’s Climate Action

WATCH: Padilla slams Trump Administration for gutting climate progressWASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) joined Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) in holding the Senate floor to stand up to President Trump’s relentless attacks on the environment and attempts to roll back decades of California’s climate action. Booker broke the record for time holding the Senate floor to give voice to the millions of Americans being harmed and ignored by the Trump Administration. Padilla praised Booker for his passion and empathy while speaking on the floor to highlight the consequences of the President’s reckless actions for public health, disaster aid, and the climate crisis.
“Senator Booker has every right to be angry because of what’s going on. I know I’m angry with so much of what’s going on, and the American people have every right to be angry with what’s going on because none of what we’re seeing come out of the Trump White House is normal. But every day, this approach of ‘flooding the zone’ with more and more extreme actions runs the risk of making people grow numb to these attacks. And we certainly can’t surrender to the feeling of just being overwhelmed by their tactics.”
Padilla underscored the devastating impacts of climate inaction and pollution on California, emphasizing the catastrophic toll of the Los Angeles County fires and his own personal experience with toxic school bus emissions. Last month, Padilla and Booker joined federal officials for a tour and briefing on cleanup and recovery efforts in the aftermath of the devastating Eaton Fire in Altadena.
“Growing up, I can tell you not just about the smell of diesel exhaust, which I’ll never forget, sitting on a school bus going to and from school. Or the regular days where school would be shut down early, we’d all be sent home because of the smog, toxic smog, in the air in the Greater Southern California area. These were concrete reminders of the real threat that emissions pose to our health.”
“California also knows the dangers posed by extreme weather. We know the droughts, we know the floods, and yes, all too often, we’ve come to know wildfires — devastating wildfires, like the ones we experienced in Los Angeles County at the beginning of this year.”
As Senator Padilla highlighted, California has long been at the forefront of fighting against pollution and climate impacts, from creating the first tailpipe emissions standards for passenger vehicles in 1966, to setting ambitious conservation goals, to establishing the first Earth Day. He criticized the Trump Administration’s attacks on California and the nation’s environmental progress, including the reversal of the endangerment finding, funding freezes of Congressionally appropriated project funds, and the roll backs of 31 critical environmental rules. He also slammed the Trump Administration for politicizing disaster aid, proposing to eliminate FEMA, implementing federal freezes on hazardous fuel removal and the hiring of seasonal firefighters, and illogically and irresponsibly opening up dams and flooding the Central Valley, claiming to “turn on the water” to fight the Los Angeles fires after they had already been contained.
“Earlier this month, the EPA, Trump’s EPA, announced that they would be rolling back more than 30 environmental rules. By doing so, they’re not just going to make Americans less healthy; they’re also going to hurt our economy, and it’s going to clear the way for China to become the world leader in green technology. So much for America First if they continue down that road.”
“They’re not just refusing to act or to help — they’re making matters worse for states like California and many others.”
Padilla concluded by stressing the importance of fighting against Trump’s anti-environment agenda, asking Senator Booker how young Americans can make their voices heard.
“So that’s what this fight is about. Our fight for the environment is about America’s health and safety. It’s about American jobs and it’s about America’s future.”
“For the next generation of Americans, for the young people who are tuning in and wondering, well what is it that I can do? Do I have a voice? Do I have any power? What would you say to them? How can they take action?”

  • MIL-OSI Russia: From projects to expeditions: what children do in environmental clubs

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

Distinguishing animals by their tracks, determining the quality of water in reservoirs and finding their way around the area are all things that students of environmental clubs open in the capital’s schools and institutions of additional education can do. Children participate in campaigns, go on hikes and expeditions, conduct research and implement projects. We tell you about the activities that help schoolchildren become real defenders of nature.

Moscow Palace of Pioneers: from expeditions to Kamchatka to space exploration

You can study the laws of nature and get acquainted with natural sciences at the environmental education center inMoscow Palace of Pioneers on Sparrow Hills (Kosygina Street, Building 17, Buildings 4, 5). There are classes for children from five to 18 years old.

“We introduce children to natural sciences. The center has more than 100 clubs in a variety of areas – from botany and zoology to medicine and organic chemistry. Among them, there is a unique one – a biogeography club, which helps children understand the relationship between biology and geography. Schoolchildren are told about the features of the climate, types of soil and plants. Our goal is to instill in children a love for nature and teach them to protect it. We show how important it is to take care of the environment, because it is a source of inspiration and knowledge,” says the head of the environmental education center, Alexey Bobrov.

To make studying sciences more exciting, a botanical garden has been opened in the Palace of Pioneers. Classes are held there for young biologists of the environmental education center. The botanical garden has a rich collection – more than five thousand species of plants from all over the world. Future zoologists can also get in touch with nature. A zoological museum has been created for them in the Palace of Pioneers, which contains four thousand exhibits. There is also a special living corner. It is home to basilisk lizards that look like small dragons, giant New Guinea grasshoppers, macaws, guinea pigs, chinchillas, meerkats and other animals.

From a young age, children in the environmental education center’s clubs develop projects and even participate in research by the state corporation Roscosmos. Children plan biological experiments that cosmonauts then conduct in flight. For example, for one of the studies, a container with duckweed leaves was sent into orbit. Together with the cosmonauts, the children tracked how the plant develops in zero gravity.

In the spring, students from different clubs at the center form teams and go to the Moscow region, where they have practical classes and conduct field research. The kids work in forests, meadows, rivers and swamps. Like real scientists, they take soil and water samples and then analyze them in a mobile laboratory. In addition, schoolchildren learn to identify species of animals, plants and mushrooms. Anyone can go on such an adventure starting in the third grade.

“From the age of 14, young ecologists, together with teachers from our center, go on expeditions to regions of Russia or other countries. Such trips last up to six weeks. During them, the children take samples on assignment from Russian research institutes or study flora and fauna, collect minerals. Schoolchildren have already visited Karelia, Baikal, Chukotka, the North and South Caucasus, and even China. Last summer, the children were in Kamchatka, where they studied plants and marine life from the Red Book, watched birds, and even saw a brown bear,” says Alexey Bobrov.

According to him, the knowledge and skills acquired in eco-clubs often help schoolchildren choose their future profession. Many of them enter the natural science departments of the country’s leading universities and build a career in science.

Palace of Children and Youth Creativity “Na Stopani”: from preschoolers to future scientists

The environmental center also offers great opportunities for young biologists. Palace of Children and Youth Creativity “Na Stopani” (Ogorodnaya Sloboda lane, building 6, building 1). Popular areas include the sections “Young connoisseurs of nature”, “Zoological research” and “Our pets”, where children study animals and the conditions in which they are kept, if they are domestic, or ways to preserve them as a species, if they live, for example, in forests, steppes or swamps.

“Each program is designed for two to three years. If the child wants to develop further, he can choose any other section. We have sections for children of different ages – from preschoolers to graduates. We strive to teach children to take care of nature,” says Andrey Rodionov, a teacher of additional education, head of the environmental center of the Palace of Children’s and Youth Creativity “Na Stopani”.

Classes for the youngest children (from age five) are held in a playful manner. Together with teachers, they go to parks, where they close their eyes and listen to the singing of birds or the rustling of leaves. Older children conduct laboratory research with microscopes, study the habits of animals and learn to care for them.

In addition, the center’s students traditionally participate in the All-Russian environmental social and educational project “Ekolyata”. They plant trees and hold clean-up days, defend their work at competitions and forums. Recently, the children performed in the library of the Moscow Zoo with the program “Ekostinye Ekolyata: “Amazing is Nearby””, dedicated to the Red Book of Russia. Young ecologists presented projects to preserve rare animals of the country and endangered species of the planet. The ideas interested scientists – now they await further development.

Thanks to the classes at the center, the children created a project of an invisible ecological shield — a system of ionizing nets, developed jointly with the participants of the physics club section “Robotics in Space”. Initially, the schoolchildren went to Lefortovo Park and examined local ponds, took water samples and analyzed its composition. The nets retain ions of heavy metals and other harmful impurities, preventing them from settling on water and plants.

And the guys from the robotics section will work on creating automated systems for cleaning networks from pollution and maintaining their magnetization. This approach will help effectively protect the capital’s water bodies from pollution.

Palace of Children and Youth Creativity “Undiscovered Islands”: the world under the microscope

Schoolchildren are invited to get to know nature betterPalace of Children and Youth Creativity “Undiscovered Islands”. Each branch holds classes for children aged five to 15. For example, in the “Island of Freedom” palace division (65 Svobody Street, Building 1), children conduct research, study plants and animals, and participate in environmental campaigns.

“One of the most interesting areas is “The World Under the Microscope”, where children conduct natural science research. During lessons, they use microscopes with digital screens, binoculars, laboratory sets for experiments and interactive boards. In addition, the “Amazing Nearby” club is popular. At different times of the year, children go to natural areas, where they learn to identify the tracks of hares and squirrels or distinguish beaver teeth marks – gnawings – from broken branches. They also observe how nature changes with the onset of new seasons,” says Anna Lukyanchikova, an additional education teacher at the Palace of Children’s and Youth Creativity “Undiscovered Islands”.

This year, the Undiscovered Islands Children and Youth Creativity Palace opened a club called “Birds: Amazing Ornithology.” Its participants try to observe birds and learn how their living conditions are affected by proximity to humans. There are groups for every age. Registration is open from September to May.

“In addition, for interested children, we hold master classes where they can make crafts related to the topics of the classes. For example, if we study fauna, we make animal figurines. We also organize eco-quests. During them, children solve riddles, look for animal tracks and study nature in a playful way. In addition, we participate in clean-up days and feed birds. It is important to take care of what surrounds us and try to preserve it,” adds Anna Lukyanchikova.

Moscow Children’s and Youth Center for Ecology, Local History and Tourism: Go on a Hiking Trip

Environmental education helps not only to learn more about nature, but also to develop personal qualities, the director is sure Moscow Children and Youth Center for Ecology, Local History and Tourism (Odesskaya street, house 12a) Dmitry Morgun.

“Nature is a book that a child needs to be taught to read. To do this, we develop thematic programs and invite zoologists, botanists, ecologists, geographers and other experts to classes. More than 7.5 thousand people study at our center. Clubs are open to children from 10 to 16 years old. Younger schoolchildren study nature, and older students offer solutions to environmental problems, go on hikes and expeditions across the regions of Russia. During trips, under the guidance of teachers, children learn to pitch tents, cook over a fire and navigate the terrain. This not only develops practical skills, but also helps them develop leadership qualities and learn to work in a team,” says Dmitry Morgun.

Schoolchildren bring back rock samples, fossils and animal photographs from expeditions, which they then display at exhibitions in the center. Today, the exhibitions “Plant Diversity,” “Mammals of Russia,” and “Paleontological Finds in the Central Federal District” are open there.

The center’s students can study the nature of Russia not only on long expeditions, but also in the natural areas of Moscow. This spring, the center opened a club called “Young Naturalist Path.” Classes are held in the Losiny Ostrov National Park. The children learn to assess the environmental situation, find solutions to improve the environment, study plants and observe animals. Employees of the Losiny Ostrov Ecocenter the capital’s Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection talk about the importance of preserving biodiversity.

Closer to the summer holidays, a “Field Eco-School” will open for schoolchildren. Children will walk routes in parks every day, observe seasonal changes, and study flora and fauna.

“Nature will always be the center of attention. Therefore, if a parent sees that a child is interested in ecology, it is necessary to support such interest. And the capital has all the opportunities for this,” says Dmitry Morgun.

Enroll a child You can join an environmental club on the mos.ru portal in the “Education” section. The window that opens will show filters for selecting an institution and direction. You can also specify the most convenient area or the nearest metro station. It is recommended to enroll in clubs at the beginning of the school year, as the number of places is limited.

  • MIL-OSI China: Ford Q1 US sales fall 1.3 percent

Source: China State Council Information Office

Ford Motor Co. reported on Tuesday that it sold 501,291 vehicles in the United States in the first quarter of this year, down 1.3 percent year on year.

Nevertheless, the U.S. automaker sold 199,672 vehicles in March, up 10 percent year on year.

Ford attributed the sales drop in the first quarter to the timing on Ford’s rental fleet sales, and the end of production of some models, such as the Ford Edge SUV and the Transit Connect van.

March sales increase came as consumers rushed to buy before the 25-percent tariffs on imported cars and auto parts go into action on April 3.

In the first quarter, Ford sold 73,623 electric vehicles, up by 25.5 percent and representing 15 percent of the company’s total sales, including 22,550 all-electric vehicles, up 11.5 percent year on year, and 51,073 hybrid models, up 33 percent. Ford’s sales of internal combustion engine vehicles, which accounted for 85 percent of its sales, fell 4.8 percent.

Ford F-Series sales rose 38 percent in March, leading to a first quarter increase of 24 percent on sales of 190,389 pickups. However, the all-electric F-150 Lightning was down 7.2 percent for the first quarter.

Ford SUV sales declined by 16.7 percent year on year to 201,527 vehicles sold in the first quarter.
