  • MIL-OSI China: Staying ‘TikTok refugees’ keep rednote exchanges alive

Source: China State Council Information Office 3

How is “Ne Zha 2” being received in the U.S.? American “TikTok refugees” on Xiaohongshu, the Chinese social media app known overseas as “rednote,” have ready answers.

Tony Oswald, a freelance filmmaker based in New York, shared his observations in a short video that garnered more than 2,500 likes and 700-plus comments. Some users thanked him for “answering their burning question” and — despite his apology for not speaking fluent Chinese — some even called him “a quick language learner.”

Regarding whether American cinema-goers understand the Chinese legend-inspired story, Oswald’s answers were straight: “The story is very simple. Everyone can understand. Some Chinese myths… Americans possibly don’t quite understand, but the jokes, emotions and animation all very good.”

When asked for his personal comment as a director by netizen Joylion, Oswald replied: “I could never in a million years make something as intricate as ‘Ne Zha.’ But my personal taste calls for more minimalist human dramas!”

One month after rednote received a massive influx of TikTok refugees, Oswald is among the American netizens who remain active on the app helping maintain the new bridge of grassroots exchanges between the two countries.

In mid-January, the U.S. government’s looming TikTok ban drove a significant number of the app’s American users onto rednote, which fuses the features of Instagram and Pinterest, in search of a new community.

Their arrivals were then met with an overwhelmingly warm welcome from Chinese netizens, and what started as a temporary “refuge” has evolved into a space for grassroots communications, from sharing daily life experiences to exchanging cooking tips and cute pet photos.

Since the TikTok ban was temporarily postponed in late January, many American netizens have returned to TikTok and bid emotional farewells to their new Chinese friends on rednote while promising to remember “the encounter.”

Others decided to stay, drawn to the friendly and positive vibe.

“I intend on staying because it’s objectively nicer over here,” said “finnfinndog,” a netizen from Michigan. Another American user, “Inspiration,” added that “those who like to be calm and at peace will stay here on rednote.”

“I like the content, people and cultural sharing here, that’s why I still want to stay on rednote,” said Cristian from the state of New York.

“This app opened my eyes to how hospitable the Chinese people can be. I’ve met some friends here and we sent pictures of our lives to each other. One of my friends sent me pictures of the Forbidden City and that was awesome,” Cristian added.

Observers have noted that the appeal of rednote extends beyond its friendly atmosphere, as it provides a space for American and Chinese users to connect at a grassroots level, sharing cultural experiences and forming bonds.

Many American reviewers of “Ne Zha 2” said they had received recommendations from their Chinese followers, which prompted them to watch a film that “many other Americans have not heard about.” The animated feature has become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time globally, with more than 1.7 billion U.S. dollars in the box office.

Even professional exchanges have flourished. Kevin, an electrician from Florida, has 13,000 fans after posting regular updates about American construction practices and engaging with Chinese electricians in technical discussions.

Ruthie, also from Florida, shared her decision to study in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. The post prompted Shenzhen University, where she is headed, to issue a post welcoming the American student. Many Shenzhen locals have also joined the discussion, offering tips on local food, transportation and tourist spots.

“Don’t sweat it homie, Shenzhen’s basically China’s litty Miami — we got palm trees, beaches and that 24/7 vibe,” one netizen from Guangdong Province, where Shenzhen is located, commented.

“Come visit me, I’ll buy you the best bubble tea,” remarked another.

China’s animated hit “Ne Zha 2,” while captivating global audiences, has also inspired renewed interest in Chinese museum artifacts among viewers.

The blockbuster has seen its box office revenue worldwide, including presales, surpass 13 billion yuan (about 1.8 billion U.S. dollars), and according to the movie’s official Weibo account, its release on Chinese big screens has been extended until March 30.

Through repeat viewings, its zealous fans have propelled this movie to the top of the global animation box office and also uncovered its intricate Chinese cultural references, prompting them to visit museums nationwide in search of its sources of historical inspiration.

At Hebei Museum in Shijiazhuang, capital of north China’s Hebei Province, crowds gather around a 2,000-year-old gilt-bronze incense burner, known as the Boshan censer, which is believed to have inspired the design of the seven-colored lotus, a multi-layered lotus root that reconstructs the bodies of the protagonists, Ne Zha and Ao Bing, in the movie.

“I come here specifically after watching the film. The exquisite designs make the story feel rooted in real history,” said Geng Shuo, a local resident.

Since the recent Spring Festival, when the movie hit the screen, the museum has recorded 340,000 visits — with up to 15,000 daily visits on weekends.

“Many visitors asked about ‘Ne Zha 2’ connections during their tours,” said Yao Ying, a museum guide, adding that she uses these moments to unpack details of the Boshan censer’s craftsmanship and artistic beauty.

Fans have also found similarities between some movie elements and museum collections, such as the dragon king Ao Guang’s blade and the sword of Ne Zha’s mother Lady Yin, which resemble a Shang Dynasty (1600 BC-1046 BC) jade weapon in the Yinxu Museum in central China’s Henan Province and the 2,500-year-old sword of the legendary king Goujian in the Hubei Provincial Museum in central China, respectively.

The movie’s director Yang Yu, known as Jiaozi, said movie creations are rooted in the soil from which they emerge, and while producing the film, the production team absorbed the essence of much traditional Chinese culture.

A typical example is the barrier beasts — comical figures serving as guardians. Their designs were inspired by artifacts unearthed at the ruins of Sanxingdui and Jinsha in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, according to Liu Wenzhang, producer of the movie.

Zhu Yarong, deputy curator of the Sanxingdui Museum, said the ingenious design of the barrier beasts aligns well with Sanxingdui items such as the gold-masked bronze head, the large bronze mask and the bronze eagle-shaped bell.

Through movies and TV plays, the historical significance, cultural essence and contemporary value of cultural relics become more accessible to the public, which helps further inherit and promote fine traditional Chinese culture, said Wang Ran, deputy curator of Hebei Museum.

“In the future, we will further explore the cultural essence of relics and bring them to life through diverse forms,” said Wang.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Saturday called on Israel to withdraw from occupied strategic hills and release Lebanese prisoners, saying these steps were essential for stability along the southern border.

Speaking during talks with visiting U.S. Congressman Ronny Jackson, Aoun said the Lebanese army was ready to secure the entire border in coordination with UN peacekeepers under Resolution 1701, accusing Israel of breaching a November 27 agreement by maintaining positions in disputed areas.

“The Lebanese army is fully capable of enforcing agreements and securing the border alongside UNIFIL forces,” Aoun said, referring to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon.

Jackson, speaking to reporters after the meeting, pledged U.S. mediation efforts between Lebanon and Israel to resolve the border dispute.

“Our objective is a fully demarcated and secure border where both sides can coexist peacefully,” the U.S. lawmaker said.

Source: China State Council Information Office 3

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Saturday opposed Ukraine’s bid to join NATO, and pledged to block its access to the European Union (EU) if it runs counter to Hungary’s interests.

In his state-of-the-nation speech in Budapest, Orban said, “Against Hungary and the Hungarians, Ukraine will never be a member of the European Union,” emphasizing the Hungarians’ right to decide on the EU membership.

He warned that Ukraine’s accession would ruin Hungarian farmers and the entire national economy.

Orban also stressed the significance of the post-conflict period following Russia-Ukraine armed conflict, arguing it is more important than the war itself. He underscored Ukraine’s role as a “buffer zone” between NATO and Russia, firmly rejecting the notion of Ukraine as a NATO member.

A consistent critic of most European leaders’ handling of the conflict in Ukraine, Orban accused them of dragging the West into a futile and dangerous confrontation.

The debate over Ukraine’s future comes amid discussions over ending the three-year military conflict. This follows recent high-level talks in Saudi Arabia between U.S. and Russian officials on a potential peace deal – a meeting notably absent of EU and Ukrainian representatives. Ukrainian President Zelensky has reiterated that any peace plan excluding Ukraine’s direct input is unacceptable.

Source: China State Council Information Office 3

Hamas accused Israel on Saturday of violating the terms of a Gaza ceasefire agreement by delaying the release of a seventh group of Palestinian prisoners, calling the move a “flagrant violation” of the truce.

In a statement, Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif Al-Qanou claimed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government “continues to procrastinate and delay” agreed-upon prisoner releases. He said Hamas had cooperated with mediators to advance the exchange process, including releasing six Israeli hostages in three separate batches earlier on Saturday.

“We call on the mediators and guarantors of the agreement to exert pressure on the occupation (Israel) to respect the ceasefire agreement and implement its provisions without procrastination or delay,” the spokesman added.

The Israeli government has postponed the release of 602 Palestinian prisoners agreed as part of the latest hostage-prisoner swap.

Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, citing a political official, said Netanyahu has decided to postpone the release until concluding security consultations scheduled for Saturday evening, without specifying the reason for the delay or a new timeline for the release.

Source: China State Council Information Office 3

A lasting peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be achieved through the two-state solution, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a phone conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Saturday while returning from the Group of 20 (G20) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa.

During the conversation, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, held in-depth discussions on regional issues with Abdelatty.

Abdelatty provided an update on the latest developments in Gaza, noting that Egypt is committed to promoting the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and is working with other Arab countries to develop a reconstruction plan. He emphasized that Egypt opposes the forced displacement of the Palestinian people.

China is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and the council’s rotating president this month, and Arab countries highly value China’s unique and important role, Abdelatty said, adding that Arab countries hope for China’s support in restoring peace and rebuilding Gaza.

Wang said that China is a friend of Arab countries and a comprehensive strategic partner of Egypt. He expressed China’s support for the just position of Arab nations and opposition to the forced displacement of the Palestinian people, calling for the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

Gaza is part of Palestinian territory, and any future arrangement concerning it must respect the will of the Palestinian people while adhering to the principle of “Palestinians governing Palestine” in post-conflict governance, Wang said, stressing the urgency of formulating reconstruction and governance plans.

China appreciates the efforts of Egypt and other Arab countries, he added.

Only by adhering to the two-state solution can the root causes be fully resolved and a lasting peace ultimately achieved, Wang noted.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues related to Sudan and Syria.

The Israeli military said on Saturday it conducted airstrikes targeting border crossings between Syria and Lebanon, accusing Hezbollah of using the routes to smuggle weapons into Lebanon.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed the crossings were exploited by Hezbollah “in attempts to illegally transfer arms,” calling such activities “a blatant violation of the ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon” effective since Nov. 27, 2024.

The IDF vowed to “continue operating to neutralize threats to Israel” and prevent Hezbollah, which it labeled a “terrorist organization,” from “rebuilding its military capabilities.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said the Israeli strikes hit locations in Syria’s rugged Qalamoun region near the Lebanese border. The monitor described the sites as historically significant for Hezbollah’s alleged arms transfers from Syria to Lebanon.

No casualties or damage have been reported yet. There were no immediate official statements from Syrian or Lebanese authorities, or Hezbollah.

Libya’s Minister of State for Women’s Affairs Houria Al-Tarmal told Xinhua that the Government of National Unity — the internationally-recognized western-based government — “supports and enables women economically and logistically.”

“Women are essential partners in the national economy,” said Al-Tarmal, hoping the summit will help businesswomen in Libya overcome challenges by exchanging experience with other women entrepreneurs and experts worldwide.

The two-day event includes workshops and training sessions to economically empower women and increase their participation in the national economy, as well as the signing of cooperation agreements and protocols between local and international agencies to support Libya’s national development.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced that his government will send a commissioner to the United States to gather information on American funds flowing to Hungary’s “pseudo-civil public organizations.”

Speaking in his state-of-the-nation address on Saturday, Orban claimed that these funds have been used to “buy journalists, judges and prosecutors, politicians, foundations, bureaucrats” and to impose what he described as “a liberal dictatorship of opinion” across the Western world.

Recent reports in local media have suggested that funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been used in Hungary to undermine the government.

Orban stated that these revelations “threw the skeletons out of the closet,” exposing a system designed to suppress national sovereignty by influencing civil society and political activities. He pledged that his government would “urgently create the constitutional and legal conditions” necessary to prevent pseudo-civil organizations from serving foreign interests in Hungary, adding that legal amendments could be enacted by Easter.

While further details of the planned measures have not been disclosed, Orban has emphasized that the initiative aims to safeguard national interests and prevent external forces from interfering in Hungary’s political affairs.

Following Orban’s speech, Alexandra Szentkiralyi, head of the ruling Fidesz party’s Budapest chapter, confirmed in a Facebook post that Hungary will send a government commissioner to the United States to “uncover the Hungarian agents” who have received funding from USAID. “Enough with serving foreign interests and the Brussels-based and Soros networks,” she wrote.

  • MIL-OSI China: Chinese hybrid rice thrives in Philippines, enhancing food security

Source: China State Council Information Office

Every day, 98-year-old Melencio Maniego walks the narrow earthen banks between his 16-hectare rice fields to inspect his crops.

“I’ve planted Chinese hybrid rice for over a decade,” the Filipino said, gazing across the green and yellow paddies in Central Luzon, dubbed “rice granary of the Philippines.”

Rice is a staple in the Southeast Asian country, and Chinese hybrid rice has gained trust among local farmers for its high yield and resilience against diseases and strong winds. “We believe in China’s advanced farming technology and expertise,” Maniego said.

Maniego was among the first in Victoria town, Tarlac province, to adopt hybrid rice developed by Longping High-tech, a Chinese agricultural company named after Yuan Longping, affectionately known as the “father of hybrid rice.”

“Since using Chinese hybrid rice, my yield has increased by over 30 percent,” he said with a thumbs-up.

As the world’s top rice importer in 2024, the Philippines faces pressure to boost domestic production. “There’s huge potential for agricultural cooperation between China and the Philippines,” said Guo Xiaobo, head of Longping High-tech Philippine R&D Center.

Guo, who has worked in the Philippines for nearly a decade, said his team concentrates on developing high-yield, disease-resistant rice varieties. The center operates 200 mu (about 13.3 hectares) of experimental fields in Nueva Ecija province, home to the Philippine-Sino Center for Agricultural Technology (PhilSCAT).

Inside the PhilSCAT’s lobby, a mural depicts two doves flying towards a shower of rice grains. Nearby brass plaques in Filipino and Chinese languages highlight the center as a symbol of bilateral cooperation.

John Davidson was trained at the PhilSCAT before he got his job as a technician at Longping High-tech in 2018.

“I learned modern farming techniques there, and the Chinese experts were willing to share their knowledge,” said the 34-year-old Filipino.

Davidson said hybrid rice has steadily improved yields, strengthening food security and boosting farmers’ livelihood.

“I hope the bilateral agricultural cooperation continues. It brings real benefits to us,” he said.

In early February, the Philippines declared a food security emergency to bring down the cost of rice. “This emergency declaration allows us to release rice buffer stocks held by the National Food Authority to stabilize prices and ensure that rice, a staple food for millions of Filipinos, remains accessible to consumers,” Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel said in a statement.

On Maniego’s farm, increased production has led to higher wages for his workers.

“Thanks to Chinese hybrid rice, I’m sure a good harvest is coming soon,” Maniego said.

Source: China State Council Information Office

The Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom (UK) hosted a special reception in London on Saturday for the families of the Lisbon Maru survivors, commemorating the heroic rescue during World War II and celebrating the Spring Festival.

In October 1942, the Lisbon Maru, a cargo vessel requisitioned by the Japanese army to transport more than 1,800 British prisoners of war (POWs) from Hong Kong to Japan, was struck by U.S. forces off the Zhoushan Islands in China’s Zhejiang province. As the ship sank, local fishermen risked their lives to rescue over 300 POWs.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Speaking at the event, Chinese Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang recounted the rescue, emphasizing that it stands as a testament to China and Britain fighting side by side as allies against fascist aggression. The rescue has left tales of the profound friendship between the people of the two countries — a friendship that “will never fade” and “has become a valuable asset” for bilateral relations, he added.

At the end of the reception, the families of the survivors stood together, held hands, and sang Auld Lang Syne.

Lindsey Archer, niece of a British soldier who perished in the Lisbon Maru shipwreck, told Xinhua that events like this help strengthen bonds and foster new friendships. She expressed that the families of both the British survivors and the Chinese rescuers have become a new community for her. Keeping the memory of their ancestors alive, she said, is crucial, as “what they suffered, lost, and sacrificed has shaped where we are today.”

Last year, Archer, along with a dozen other descendants of British POWs — including Kenneth Salmon — visited China to pay tribute to the fallen at the wreck site in Zhoushan.

Salmon, whose father was a Royal Artillery sergeant rescued from the sinking Lisbon Maru, described the emotional connection he felt during the visit. Reflecting on the friendships forged during the trip, he said there is “an emotional attachment” in Zhoushan.

He also expressed his appreciation for the presence of young children at the reception, emphasizing the importance of preserving the story of the rescue for future generations to learn about their ancestry and family history.

As part of the event, a photography exhibition showcased the progress made in recent years in tracing the history of the Lisbon Maru rescue.

Israel announced early Sunday that it had postponed the release of Palestinian detainees, who were set to be freed Saturday under the ceasefire agreement until more hostages are released.

Israel was expected to release about 620 Palestinian detainees on Saturday after Hamas freed six hostages earlier in the day. The six were the final batch of living hostages scheduled to be released in the first phase of the three-phase deal.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that it had been decided to delay the release of Palestinian detainees scheduled for Saturday “until the release of the next hostages is secured, without the disgraceful ceremonies.”

The decision followed what the statement described as “Hamas’ repeated violations, including the disgraceful (hostage release) ceremonies that dishonor our hostages and the cynical use of hostages for propaganda purposes.”

Both Hamas and Israel have been accused of using captives for propaganda, with Hamas parading hostages on stage and Israel attaching derogatory inscriptions to bracelets and T-shirts worn by Palestinian prisoners and photographing them in demeaning poses.

A total of 63 hostages remain in Gaza, with more than half presumed dead, according to Israeli data.

The Dounan Flower Market, Asia’s largest fresh-cut flower trading market, in the southwest Chinese city of Kunming saw flower transaction volume up 5 percent to 14.18 billion stems last year.

With a transaction value of 11.57 billion yuan (about 1.61 billion U.S. dollars) in 2024, the market has led the country in both flower transaction volume and value for 25 consecutive years.

The Dounan Flower Market, located in the Chenggong District of Kunming, Yunnan Province, is also the world’s second-largest fresh-cut flower trading hub. This bustling market is a key supplier, with flowers from Dounan reaching every provincial-level region on the Chinese mainland and more than 50 countries and regions worldwide, including Japan and Thailand.

Flower cultivation in Dounan dates back to 1983. In the 1990s, local residents began commercial cultivation and trading. In 1999, China’s first professional flower trading market was established in Dounan.

Since then, the market has expanded its flower industry chain, solidifying its position as a major flower trading hub. Now, seven out of 10 fresh-cut flowers in China come from Dounan.

Dounan’s blooming flower industry highlights China’s prominence in the global flower market.

With about 1.5 million hectares dedicated to flower cultivation and more than 5 million people involved in the industry, China has become the world’s largest flower producer and an important flower trader and consumer.

A guideline jointly issued by China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs proposed that by 2025, the annual sales of the country’s flower industry will reach 300 billion yuan, and more than 700 billion yuan in 2035.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Friday presided over a State Council executive meeting that discussed trade in services, services consumption and other issues.
During the meeting, an action plan to improve the recycling system for used new energy vehicle (NEV) power batteries was approved.
The meeting said that China will adopt innovative measures to boost trade in services and fully apply a negative list for cross-border trade in services.
New opening-up measures will be introduced in fields such as telecommunication, education, culture, medical services and finance.
The country will boost exports of services and expand multilateral and bilateral cooperation, as well as regional cooperation on trade in services and digital trade.
The meeting also called for the high-quality development of services consumption, and stressed that the country should increase the supply of quality services through the comprehensive use of fiscal, tax and financial policies.
It highlighted efforts to build a normative, safe and effective recycling and utilization system for power batteries, as well as efforts to ensure that power batteries can be traced throughout their whole life cycle, covering production, marketing, disassembly and utilization.
Efforts should also be made to improve related administrative regulations, and to accelerate the development and revision of standards for the green design and carbon footprint accounting of batteries.
Noting that departments of the State Council have completed their handling of all suggestions and proposals submitted by lawmakers and political advisors last year, the meeting called for further efforts to handle this year’s suggestions and proposals in a quality manner to garner broader public support for the country’s high-quality development.

Thanks to more emphasis on PE classes, the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen has seen a noticeable drop in the number of secondary school students who need to wear glasses.
The municipal education bureau recently released the data one year after it piloted “one physical education (PE) class per day” in the compulsory education stage.
Since its implementation on Jan. 1, 2024, the overall myopia rate among children and adolescents in Shenzhen has dropped to 55.5 percent, down 1.2 percentage points from 2023. Meanwhile, a measurement of student physical fitness excellence rose by over 6 percentage points from 2023.
“Seeing the data, I feel even more confident about implementing the policy. A year of practice has proven that we made the right decision,” said Zheng Xiuyu, head of the municipal education bureau.
Since the beginning of this new semester, various provincial-level regions in China have introduced policies to ensure students have proper recess activities and sufficient PE classes to improve their health.
    DAILY PE CLASS MANDATE
Beijing has released a document to strengthen physical education in primary and secondary schools. It outlines eight measures, including ensuring one PE class for primary and junior high school students and ensuring that they engage in at least two hours of comprehensive physical activities every day.
Regions such as Hunan, Hebei, Gansu, Tianjin and Sichuan have recently released similar documents.
These initiatives came after concerns over the physical and mental health of primary and secondary school students have been growing in recent years.
A 2024 report released by the China Development Research Foundation highlights that issues like myopia, obesity and scoliosis are surpassing infectious diseases as primary health concerns. Mental health problems, including high anxiety and depression rates, are also rising.
Students and parents have widely welcomed the “one PE class a day” policy.
“My favorite class is PE!” A student in Shenzhen has said.
Parents also believe that their children are improving their physical fitness and gaining happiness and confidence through regular exercise.
    HEALTHIER AND EVEN SMARTER
“Parents and schools have become more attentive to PE,” said Shen Hongwen, a PE teacher in Shanghai. “Beyond grades, society now values both academic success and physical well-being.”
Shen added that the emergence of various sports training institutions reflects the growing recognition that academic performance and well-being are equally important.
Educators argue that sports do not hinder learning but rather enhance cognitive abilities and mental resilience.
“Appropriate recess games and physical activities not only enhance study efficiency but also help develop their thinking and innovation abilities,” said Zhu Hong, vice principal of a primary school in Hainan.
Numerous studies show that exercise not only promotes health but also serves as an important way to enhance brain development, said Huang Zhenmin, a PE analyst at Shenzhen Institute of Education Sciences.
    ADDRESSING CHALLENGES
As early as 2021, China’s Ministry of Education had recommended that “schools with adequate resources should offer one PE class per day” and “ensure students engage in one hour of exercise in school and another hour outside of school each day.”
However, obstacles such as limited time and space, inadequate sports facilities, and a shortage of PE teachers have hindered implementation.
To address the issue of teacher resources, China has expanded the enrollment of students specialized in PE in multiple teacher cultivation programs. Beijing also allows schools to hire retired coaches and athletes as part-time PE teachers.
Shenzhen established a two-way mechanism between school and public sports venues. Students can use public venues during school hours, while the public can use school sports spaces during holidays, solving the problem of insufficient space for both.
To reinforce physical activities, in the recently released national plan to build a strong education system by 2035, authorities again emphasized “making sure primary and secondary school students have at least two hours of physical activity daily” to effectively control myopia and obesity rates.
With the time and space secured, many schools are now making efforts to provide students with high-quality PE courses that are designed to enhance speed, agility, strength and endurance.

Source: China State Council Information Office

China’s issuance of green electricity certificates (GECs) saw a significant increase in January as the country continues accelerating its push for sustainable development.

The National Energy Administration (NEA) issued 231.2 million GECs last month, an increase of 225 percent year on year.

In January, the newly issued GECs, representing renewable energy production, included 94.74 million from wind power — about 40 percent of the total — 81.82 million from hydropower, and 39.43 million from solar power.

By the end of January, China had cumulatively issued 5.19 billion GECs, according to the NEA.

GECs are the sole proof of the environmental attributes of renewable energy power in China and serve as the only certificate for verifying renewable energy production and consumption, according to relevant rules.

Last month, 53.1 million GECs were traded nationwide. Cumulatively, 606.06 million GECs had been traded by the end of January.

China introduced the green certificate system as a pilot program in 2017. In December 2023, the NEA issued the first batch of GECs after being designated as the authority responsible for GEC management.

The return of China-Australia relations to a path of sound and stable development serves the common interests of both sides and aligns with the aspirations of their peoples, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said while meeting with his Australian counterpart, Penny Wong, in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday.

Under the strategic guidance of their leaders, China-Australia relations have stabilized, a development welcomed by all sectors of both countries, said Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

China is ready to work with Australia to build a more mature, stable and fruitful comprehensive strategic partnership, he added.

While appreciating Australia’s repeated commitment to the one-China principle, China hopes that Australia will continue to respect its core interests and major concerns, maintain the political foundation of bilateral relations, and properly manage differences, Wang said.

Amid the current complex and volatile international situation, China believes that all countries should practice true multilateralism, with major countries taking the lead in firmly opposing efforts to reverse the course of history and return to the “law of the jungle,” he said.

China is ready to work with Australia and other members of the international community to defend the victorious outcomes of World War II and uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core, he added.

Wong, for her part, said that China-Australia exchanges across various fields have made positive strides, with economic and trade relations fully recovered, sending positive signals.

The Australian side adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to continue strengthening cooperation with China in areas that serve their respective national interests, uphold the international rule of law and strategic security, and jointly address global challenges, she said.
