June 22, 1941 is a day that will forever remain in the memory of our people.

At 4:15 a.m., when the world was still asleep, Nazi Germany, violating all agreements, unleashed a war against the Soviet Union. This moment marked the beginning of the Great Patriotic War – one of the most tragic periods in the history of our country.

Alarms woke people up. Many could not believe what was happening. The morning skies turned fiery as German planes began bombing towns and villages. The world that seemed stable collapsed in a second.

Hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians found themselves in the epicenter of horror. Bombing, destruction, fear, death – all this became a reality that people had to face.

But despite heavy losses and terrible suffering, the people showed incredible resilience.

From the first days of the war, people gathered in self-defense units, signed up for the army, prepared to defend their homeland. This day marked the beginning of a long and difficult journey, in which everyone united from the southern seas to the polar region, regardless of gender, age, nationality or profession.

The Moscow Engineering and Economic Institute (today GUU) contributed to the common Victory. Many employees went to the front, fought in the 7th division of the people’s militia, the 3rd Moscow Communist Division and other formations. During the war years, the university continued to work on training specialists who were needed by the country’s economy more than ever. When the enemy approached the capital, university representatives participated in defense activities: they built fortifications, worked in logging, and organized subsidiary farming.

June 22, 1941 is not just a date. It is a symbol of courage and unity that became the basis for victory in a war that took millions of lives but did not break the spirit of the people.

We remember and honor those who fought, who gave their lives for freedom and independence. Eternal memory to the heroes!

  • MIL-OSI USA: Welch Statement on U.S. Strike on Three Nuclear Sites in Iran

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator Peter Welch (D-Vermont)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) tonight released a statement after the United States bombed three nuclear sites in Iran:
“President Trump’s decision to enter a war with Iran does not make America more secure—it puts us in extreme danger. This bombing was an act of war that risks retaliation by the Iranian regime.
“Any hope of diplomacy has been irreparably harmed, and the White House is now allowing Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to drag us into his war against Iran. We cannot bomb our way to peace. We do not want Iran to have a nuclear weapon, and the way to ensure that is to work with our allies to ensure our global safety.
“Under the constitution, it is the responsibility of Congress—not the president—to declare war. The American people should have had a voice and an opportunity to debate this monumental act before a strike of this nature. We must return to Washington immediately.”
Senator Welch shared a video earlier this week voicing his opposition to taking action in the conflict between Israel and Iran, and urged Senators of both parties to strongly oppose allowing Netanyahu to pull the U.S. into yet another forever war in the Middle East.

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock – Georgia

As a father, my heart aches for families in Israel living in fear of an attack that may harm them and their loved ones. The Iranian regime’s threat remains real, and as the Senate considers its annual funding legislation, I will continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself. For the safety of our ally, Israel, and the region, and for our own national security, the Iranian regime must not have a nuclear weapon.

As a Senator for one of the largest military states and as a pastor who has, on many occasions, prayed with parents who lost a child through military service, I remain hopeful that we can reach peace through diplomacy. I call on the Trump administration to leverage American leadership in the vigilant pursuit of peace and I urge the Iranian regime to immediately return to the negotiation table—for the safety of all of God’s children. It’s critical the Administration respect Congress’s constitutional responsibility to carefully review any proposed use of American forces in yet another conflict in the Middle East.

Source: US State of New York

Today’s buyback event in Schenectady resulted in 367 guns being turned in, including 147 assault weapons, 92 handguns, and 65 long guns, among others. Following today’s gun buyback event, Attorney General James has helped remove more than 9,500 guns out of New York communities.

“The State Police is proud to partner with the New York State Attorney General’s Office on this initiative, with the shared goal of preventing senseless gun-involved tragedies and improving safety in our local communities,” said New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James. “Gun buyback programs can prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands, and are a compliment to our overall strategy to reduce gun violence.”

“This gun buyback is a safe and approachable way to remove unwanted weapons from the community,” said Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy. “I am pleased that our city was able to support the Attorney General’s Office and our other local law enforcement partners to work together on this important initiative.”

“We thank the Attorney General for partnering with departments across Schenectady County to give folks a safe, simple way to turn in guns they no longer want or need,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “Programs like this reduce risk and help make our neighborhoods safer.”

“Gun buyback events give people a safe and responsible way to dispose of firearms they no longer want or need. It’s a personal decision — and for many, it brings peace of mind,” said Assemblymember Angelo Santabarbara. “These programs help reduce the risk of accidents, theft, or misuse, especially in homes with children or vulnerable individuals. It’s a practical approach to public safety, and it allows people to take meaningful action on their own terms. I thank Attorney General James and our partners in law enforcement for organizing today’s event and providing community members the opportunity to be a part of the solution to senseless gun violence.”

“Gun safety continues to be one of the most pressing issues we face across the country,” said Assemblymember Phil Steck. “Events like this gun buyback are critical tools in helping to reduce violence and get as many firearms off our streets as possible. I commend Attorney General James, the Schenectady Police Department, and local law enforcement for their leadership and commitment to public safety, and I’m proud to see initiatives like this happening in our community.”

“I applaud Attorney General James, the New York State Police, and all our law enforcement partners for coordinating today’s gun buyback event in Schenectady,” said Chief Michael Brown, Rotterdam Police Department. “These events allow community members to take action against gun violence and turn in unwanted firearms. Our community is safer because of gun buyback events like these, and I look forward to working with our law enforcement partners in the future to protect our communities and our streets.”

“The Scotia Police Department is proud to work alongside our partner agencies in Schenectady County and the New York State Attorney General’s Office for this important gun buyback event,” said Chief Adam Halbfinger, Scotia Police Department. “Collaborative efforts like this are vital to making our community a safer place for everyone.”

  • MIL-Evening Report: Caitlin Johnstone: Israel supporters will be despised for the rest of their lives

Report by Dr David Robie – Café Pacific.

    COMMENTARY: By Caitlin Johnstone

Do Israel’s supporters know it’s over for them? Like, they know they’re going to be despised for the rest of their lives, right? That they will never, ever live down the fact that they supported a live-streamed genocide?

And that it will only get worse for them as history clarifies things?

Surely they must realise this by now. Surely they must realise that nothing they do for the rest of their lives will ever be as significant as the fact that they played cheerleader for genocide and all of Israel’s demented warmongering, long after normal people realised it was the wrong thing to do.

That in the eyes of the world they will all always be first and foremost someone who supported and defended history’s first live-streamed genocide.

I wonder what that’s like, knowing that about yourself? If that was me maybe I’d be pushing for World War Three as well, I dunno. Maybe I’d hope we could turn the whole world into Gaza and let the flames wash away human memory of the things we had done. That enough death and destruction spread out across enough of the earth would make my crimes look small in comparison or something.

It won’t work, though. Everyone’s always going to remember what they did. Their grandchildren will be disgusted by them. Their families will carry their shame for generations.

What a terrible way to be.

Israel supporters will be despised for the rest of their lives    Video: Caitlin Johnstone

    STOP PRESS:

The UK will reportedly be designating Palestine Action as a terrorist group for spraying British military planes with red paint to protest the genocide in Gaza.

It says a lot about how backwards and diseased western civilization has become when peace activists are designated as terrorists for trying to stop the world’s worst acts of terrorism.

Iran is having more and more success with its missile strikes on Israel. I am not a military expert, but I’ve been hearing for years that Israel doesn’t want to fight Iran because it can’t reliably stop Iran’s missiles. Israel of course would have known this, so it looks like the plan was always for Israel to get itself into hot water and have the US pull it out.

Iran’s real sin is insisting upon its own sovereignty as a nation. That’s why it’s a target of the Western empire. Giving up sovereignty over its own energy infrastructure would be giving up the very thing the Iranians started fighting for in the first place all those years ago. They’re not going to do it unless they are forced to, otherwise what was the point of resisting absorption into the imperial blob that whole time?

I’m supposed to hate a country for saying “Death to America”? I yell that during sex.

The only reason they get to call the Gaza holocaust a “war” is because they’re using bombs and bullets to do the extermination. If they were using gas chambers to kill the same number of people with the exact same motive, all it would change is the world’s understanding of what’s happening.

War after war after war the Western empire has told us it needs to ship off our young to go fight evil murderous tyrants, only for the West to wake up to the reality that the empire’s dearest ally in the Middle East is the most evil, murderous and tyrannical regime around.

The idea of war with Iran would be even less popular than it is now if the Western media hadn’t spent all these years referring to Iran’s civilian nuclear energy programme as “Iran’s nuclear programme”, deliberately causing people to assume that Iran is working on nuclear weapons.

Friendly reminder that last year the official Democratic Party platform slammed Trump for choosing not to go to war with Iran in 2018, 2019 and 2020 during his last presidency.

Americans aren’t allowed to vote against war.

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Flawed Law Turns Blind Eye To Child Prostitution

    Source: Family First

    MEDIA RELEASE – 21 June 2025

PROSTITUTION LAW REVIEW: BENEFITS EXAGGERATED, SHORTCOMINGS IGNORED, DENIED OR HIDDEN

Family First says that a TVNZ report on child prostitution is no surprise, given the lack of oversight of the law and a failure to formally review its many failings.

An indepth review in 2021 of the effects of the 2003 prostitution law change revealed a huge gap between the reputation of the law and its actual impact. The detailed analysis challenged the assumption that the decriminalisation of prostitution has been a success, finding the benefits of the Prostitution Reform Act 2003 (PRA) have been exaggerated and its shortcomings ignored, denied or hidden.

IS IT WORKING? An evidenced-based review of the decriminalisation of prostitution in New Zealand” highlighted several significant concerns:

Increased numbers of prostitutes. The New Zealand Prostitutes’ Collective has failed to collect accurate data on the numbers of people involved in prostitution, despite being contracted by the Government to do so.

Health and safety violations – and the reality of violence. Continuing health and safety violations include coercion into unwanted sex acts, high levels of violence, physical injury, unsafe sex, and exploitative practices such as long working hours. Violence is a risk every prostitute takes on a daily basis. Assault, rape and strangulation are not uncommon.

What other business or sector of society in New Zealand would tolerate this – and yet the sex industry is sold as a success story. Where is the Occupational Safety and Health? No other work employment sector has a risk factor where rape is considered an inherent part of the work, and why would we want a family member to be in a type of work where there is a 35% chance of being sexually molested i.e forced to accept sex from a man they did not want to.

Fuelled by increasingly violent pornography and a notorious drinking culture, punters frequently enjoy hurting women; overseas studies show that some men think raping a prostitute is not even possible. As a result, studies continue to document depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders and bipolar disorder in women involved in prostitution.

Yet New Zealand’s official Health and Safety Manual for prostitution normalises violence and coercion by advising prostitutes to ‘identify potentially dangerous situations,’ and to devise strategies ‘to protect themselves.’ The prostitutes’ collective stated openly in 2016 that it was impossible to wipe out violence in the industry.

Low rates of reporting and prosecuting violations. Fewer than 20% of those who had been physically assaulted reported it to the police. Since 2003 there have been only two prosecutions for coercion – committed usually by women’s managers (pimps) – despite repeated reports that it happens frequently.

Street workers experience 2 to 3 times more violence than other workers, and actual serious violence (rape, holding against will, and physical violence) are significantly underreported to the Police. Even the Prostitute Collective’s reports to the Ministry of Health make frequent mention of violence and coercion, often by brothel ‘managers’ (pimps).

The black market. The industry realities of gang involvement, child exploitation and internal trafficking are largely denied or ignored by the NZPC. The Ministry for Children confirmed that under-age prostitution was not a target area and that no funding had been made available to tackle it.

Lack of support for exiting the industry. No resources have been provided to support women who wish to exit the industry. When the law reform was being debated, it was promoted as helping to prevent entry and facilitate exiting, however the NZPC does not support that approach.

Failure to implement recommended changes: A review of the law reform in 2008 made 28 recommendations, however, only 11 have been followed through in any way.

Despite dangerous conditions continuing, New Zealand’s prostitution law reform has been widely lauded – particularly overseas – as beneficial for the women involved. The report identifies the main reason for this misinformation: the conversation is dominated by the New Zealand Prostitutes Collective (NZPC), a lobby group whom the Government relies on overwhelmingly for information regarding any issue related to prostitution.

TVNZ also fell into this same trap.

The report found that the NZPC does not provide support for those wishing to exit, has no official contact with the black market of prostitution, and plays down the industry-wide realities of violence and exploitation – denying the existence of under-age abuse and internal trafficking, rejecting the voices of exited women, and amplifying the voices of pimps.

When implementing the law reform in 2003, Parliament was clear that its impact should be fully scrutinised. Five years later, in 2008, the Prostitution Law Reform Committee’s review of the new law recommended assessing it again in 2018. Such an assessment never happened, and the Ministry of Justice says there are no plans to review the law again –  in spite of the fact only 11 of the 28 recommendations made by the 2008 review have been implemented.

The report makes a number of recommendations, including a focus on child sexual exploitation and trafficking; funding and resourcing exiting & prevention (including awareness of the impacts of pornography); and ultimately, the recriminalisation of brothels and pimping.

BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhua) — According to statistics, the number of visits to the recently held Moscow Seasons in Beijing festival exceeded 2.85 million people, the press service of the Moscow City Tourism Committee reported.

The event took place from June 12 to 15 in the Chinese capital in honor of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of sister-city relations between Beijing and Moscow. At the festival site, the Russian tourist information pavilion became one of the most attractive sites.

Cutting-edge technologies such as 3D modeling offered Chinese visitors innovative ways to experience Russia. A digital twin of Moscow allowed the public to immerse themselves in the Russian capital, showing details of the city’s architectural assemblies, utility networks, and transportation systems.

“This device gives an incredibly realistic effect. It’s a fantastic way to see iconic Russian landmarks from afar,” said Chinese visitor Hou Wen after enjoying the panorama of Red Square.

“Chinese tourists have shown a huge interest in Russia,” said festival volunteer Oksana Yakimashenko, who is also a Moscow-based Chinese-speaking guide, helping visitors put on VR goggles for a fascinating virtual tour of Moscow.

Oksana also introduced Xu Bo, a Beijing native who plans to take an in-depth tour of Russia with his wife after retiring in two years, to Russia’s tourist routes. “We prefer to travel by train rather than by plane because we don’t want to miss any of the scenery along the way,” Xu Bo said, adding that he will definitely visit Moscow and St. Petersburg.

According to Oksana, in recent years she has received more and more travelers from China, many of whom consider Moscow a beautiful city.

The close ties between the two cities are clearly reflected in the growing number of tourist exchanges. According to available information, China ranks first among foreign countries in the number of tourists visiting the Russian capital. In 2024 alone, Moscow was visited by more than 420,000 guests from China.

According to the Beijing City Administration of Culture and Tourism, Beijing received 293,000 tourists from Russia last year, and over 175,000 Russian tourists visited the Chinese capital in the first five months of this year. Among foreign travelers who visited Beijing during the same period, Russians ranked first.

As noted by the First Deputy Head of the Office of the Mayor and the Government of Moscow, Chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee Evgeny Kozlov, in order to increase the attractiveness of Moscow as a tourist destination, the multifaceted strategy includes significant investments in the development of transport infrastructure, urban navigation, hotel services and the digital environment for the sake of a comfortable stay for tourists.

According to E. Kozlov, in order to raise awareness of Moscow among Chinese travelers, we actively promote the capital’s official accounts in popular Chinese social networks – Douyin, WeChat, Xiaohongshu and Weibo. An important step was the opening of an official page on the Ctrip platform in 2024, where both individual and group tours to Moscow are presented, he added.

Zheng Fang, deputy director of the Beijing City Culture and Tourism Bureau, said Beijing is offering foreign tourists the Beijing Pass, a card designed to enhance their tourism experience in the Chinese capital.

The card, which can be purchased at the Beijing Service counters at Beijing Capital and Beijing Daxing International Airports, facilitates the process of paying for public transportation, purchasing tickets at tourist attractions, and shopping at shopping malls. In addition, foreign visitors can use it to purchase tickets to 30 popular tourist attractions in Beijing, including parks such as Yiheyuan, Tiantan (Temple of Heaven), and the Badaling section of the Great Wall.

“I am confident that in the future, tourism exchanges between Beijing and Moscow will be able to steadily expand and demonstrate an even stronger development trend,” Zheng Fang concluded. -0-

Mr Yau first shared with the trade the business opportunities brought about by the strong growth in the demand of wine in the vast market of Asia Pacific. He said market research revealed that China’s wine market generated approximately US$31 billion in revenue in 2024 and is projected to reach US$54 billion in 2030, reflecting an annual growth rate of almost 10 per cent. He added that with Hong Kong’s wine duty abolished in 2008, the city is now an international wine trading hub and one of the world’s top three wine auction centres.

Turning to liquor, Mr Yau said that France remains one of Hong Kong’s top liquor trading partners, In 2024, Hong Kong imported US$831 million worth of liquor, and France was Hong Kong’s second-largest import market, accounting for 30 per cent of the total. Brandy continued to be a leading category, particularly through high-end retail channels catering to the Mainland market.

Mr Yau added that last October, Hong Kong took another step by introducing a two-tier liquor duty system under which the duty rate was reduced from 100 per cent to 10 per cent for the portion above HK$200. As a “super connector” linking the East and West, Hong Kong with its strategic location and unique advantages plays a pivotal role in the global liquor trade as a gateway to the fast-growing Asia and Mainland markets. Between 2013 and 2023, imports of spirits in Asia grew 79.3 per cent, a significantly faster rate than the global increase of 42 per cent in the same period. The Mainland is now the third-largest importer of Cognac.

Mr Yau added that Hong Kong’s signature events, such as the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair and the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival, along with biennial events such as ProWine Hong Kong and Vinexpo Asia, provide French producers with unparalleled platforms to promote their brands to international buyers, distributors and liquor enthusiasts.

Mr Yau said that coupled with its premier location, free flow of capital and free port status, Hong Kong, as the world’s freest economy and the third-most competitive economy globally, is the best partner for the Bordeaux wine and liquor sector to tap into the tremendous opportunities in the Asia market, notably the Mainland.

On June 21 (France time), Mr Yau took the opportunity to visit vineyards in Bordeaux to learn about their operations and promote Hong Kong’s position as Asia’s wine and liquor trading hub.

  • MIL-OSI USA: SBA Offers Disaster Relief to Illinois Small Businesses, Private Nonprofits and Residents Affected by Severe Storms and Tornadoes

Source: United States Small Business Administration

ATLANTA–The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced the availability of low interest federal disaster loans for Illinois small businesses, private nonprofits, and residents affected by the severe storms and tornadoes occurring May 16, 2025. The SBA issued a disaster declaration in response to a request received from Gov. JB Pritzker on June 18.

The declaration covers the Illinois counties of Franklin, Jackson, Johnson, Pope, Saline, Williamson, and Union in Illinois are eligible for both physical damage loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) from the SBA.

Small businesses and private nonprofits are eligible to apply for business physical disaster loans and may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster-damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets.

Homeowners and renters are eligible to apply for home and personal property loans and may borrow up to $100,000 to replace or repair personal property, such as clothing, furniture, cars, and appliances. Homeowners may apply for up to $500,000 to replace or repair their primary residence.

Applicants may also be eligible for a loan increase of up to 20% of their physical damage, as verified by the SBA, for mitigation purposes. Eligible mitigation improvements include strengthening structures to protect against high wind damage, upgrading to wind rated garage doors, and installing a safe room or storm shelter to help protect property and occupants from future damage.

“One distinct advantage of SBA’s disaster loan program is the opportunity to fund upgrades reducing the risk of future storm damage,” said Chris Stallings, associate administrator of the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the SBA. “I encourage businesses and homeowners to work with contractors and mitigation professionals to improve their storm readiness while taking advantage of SBA’s mitigation loans.”

SBA’s EIDL program is available to small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and private nonprofit (PNP) organizations with financial losses directly related to the disaster. The SBA is unable to provide disaster loans to agricultural producers, farmers, or ranchers, except for small aquaculture enterprises.

EIDLs are for working capital needs caused by the disaster and are available even if the business did not suffer any physical damage. They may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills not paid due to the disaster.

Interest rates are as low as 4% for small businesses, 3.625% for PNPs, and 2.81% for homeowners and renters, with terms up to 30 years. Interest does not begin to accrue, and payments are not due, until 12 months from the date of the first loan disbursement. The SBA sets loan amounts and terms, based on each applicant’s financial condition.
