Manchester City became the only team to finish the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 group stage with a 100 per cent record, following a comfortable 5-2 victory over Juventus FC.

City are now the leading scorers at the global showpiece with 13 goals—one ahead of FC Bayern München—after delivering a clinical performance at Camping World Stadium in Orlando to top Group G and set up a Round of 16 clash with the runners-up in Group H.

Pep Guardiola’s side dominated nearly all aspects of the game, securing just their second-ever win in eight meetings against the Italian club.

City opened the scoring in the ninth minute when new signing Rayan Ait-Nouri won the ball outside the Juventus penalty area and set up Jeremy Doku, who cut inside and fired into the far corner, reports Xinhua.

City’s lead lasted only two minutes, as goalkeeper Ederson passed directly to Teun Koopmeiners, who capitalized with a left-footed strike to level the score.

Rodri Hernandez, making his first start since suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in September 2024, helped stabilize City’s midfield. The Premier League champions regained the lead in the 26th minute following a defensive blunder. Matheus Nunes found space down the right and crossed low into the box, where Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu, under no pressure, accidentally side-footed the ball into his own net.

City continued to dominate the half, with Tijjani Reijnders energetic in midfield and Ait-Nouri forcing a strong save before a heavy storm swept across the pitch shortly before halftime.

Erling Haaland replaced Omar Marmoush at the break and extended City’s lead in the 52nd minute. Despite mishitting his shot, Haaland finished off a well-worked buildup involving Nunes and Reijnders.

Rodri was substituted in the 66th minute, and moments later Ederson redeemed his earlier error with a reflex save to deny Dusan Vlahovic.

Phil Foden made it 4-1 just three minutes after coming off the bench, tapping in after a powerful run by Haaland, who fed Savinho. The Brazilian rounded goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio before unselfishly laying the ball off to Foden.

Savinho then made it 5-1 in the 75th minute with a spectacular long-range strike after Juventus failed to clear a corner.

Vlahovic pulled a goal back for Juventus in the 84th minute, beating the offside trap and finishing cleanly.

Elsewhere, Al Ain FC ended their FIFA Club World Cup 2025 campaign on a high note by battling back from a goal down to beat Wydad AC 2-1 in Washington, D.C.

TEHRAN, June 27 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Thursday that no agreement or commitment had been reached to resume talks with the United States amid heightened tensions following Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iranian territory.

In an interview with state television channel IRIB, the Iranian foreign minister said the possibility of resuming talks was being considered, but would depend on whether Tehran’s national interests were protected.

“Our decisions will be based solely on Iran’s interests,” he said. “If our interests require a return to negotiations, we will consider it. But at this stage, no agreement has been reached, no promises have been made, and no negotiations have taken place.”

    A. Araghchi accused Washington of betraying Iran during previous rounds of talks on resuming the 2015 nuclear deal and lifting US sanctions.

The Iranian diplomat also confirmed that the law suspending the country’s cooperation with the IAEA became binding after being approved by Iran’s parliament and endorsed by the Guardian Council, the country’s highest constitutional oversight body.

“Our cooperation with the IAEA will take on a new form,” said A. Araghchi.

According to him, “serious” damage was caused during the 12-day war with Israel. Experts from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran are currently conducting a detailed assessment. The issue of demanding reparations is high on the government’s agenda, the foreign minister added. –0–

SANAA, June 27 (Xinhua) — Yemen’s Houthi leader Abdel Malik al-Houthi said on Thursday that the group has fired 309 ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles and drones at Israel since mid-March in the second phase of its military campaign.

In a televised address to mark the Muslim New Year broadcast by the Houthi-controlled al-Masirah TV channel, A.M. al-Houthi said that 25 missiles and drones had been launched this month alone in what he called “quality military operations in support of Gaza.”

He confirmed that the Red Sea remains closed to Israel-linked shipping and accused Israel of continuing its offensive in Gaza with US support.

The rebel leader also called for mass rallies in Sanaa and other Houthi-controlled areas on Friday to express solidarity with the Palestinians and congratulate Iran on its “great victory and resilience.”

Meanwhile, Yemen’s internationally recognised government has accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of directly controlling missile systems used by rebels.

Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Iryani said Tehran is using Yemen as an “advanced missile platform” to threaten regional and international security while avoiding direct confrontation.

The Houthi group, which controls much of northern Yemen, began striking Israel in November 2023, weeks after the conflict between Israel and Hamas began in the Gaza Strip, in solidarity with the Palestinian people. –0–

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Steil Joins Village of Hales Corners Addressing Safe Drinking Water, PFAS Chemicals

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Bryan Steil (Wisconsin-1)

Hales Corners, WI (June 13, 2025) – Today, Congressman Bryan Steil joined officials from the Village of Hales Corners for a water conversion project groundbreaking ceremony. The project addresses PFAS-related issues in a water system serving 188 homes. Congressman Steil was instrumental in helping resolve bureaucratic delays that had prevented the Village from obtaining loan funding.

Rep. Steil joins Village of Hales Corners officials at the groundbreaking for the Hales Happiness water conversion project.

“One of the most important roles I have as a member of Congress is helping cut through the red tape and deliver real results for Wisconsin families,” said Steil. “Safe, clean drinking water is critical for Wisconsin families, and I am thrilled to have been able to help the Village of Hales Corners make that a reality. This funding will not only help ensure families have access to critical infrastructure but will also reduce potential costs for Hales Corners residents by as much as $16,000 per household.”

    Background:

In March of this year, the Village of Hales Corners reached out to Rep. Steil’s office for assistance with an issue involving PFAS chemicals in a water system that served 188 homes. It had been determined that water for these homes exceeded EPA levels and ultimately would exceed proposed new standards in Wisconsin.

The Village of Hales Corners had been trying to secure Safe Drinking Water Loan funding to address the problem but ran into roadblocks and bureaucratic delays stemming from issues in statutory interpretation under EPA rules.

The Village contacted Rep. Steil’s office, who worked with state and local government agencies to cut through the delays. Within days of getting involved, Rep. Steil’s office helped to resolve the issue.

As a result, the Village is now eligible for funding to ensure these 188 families will have affordable access to clean, safe drinking water.

The Village highlighted that the work of Congressman Steil’s office helped reduce potential costs for residents by 50%, or as much as $16,000 in potential fees.

A letter from the village to Congressman Steil’s office with additional background on the issue is located here.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday called out the selective application of the UN Charter, saying it is not an a-la-carte menu.

“Today, we see assaults on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter like never before: the threat or use of force against sovereign nations; the violation of international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law; the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure; the weaponization of food and water; the erosion of human rights,” he told a UN General Assembly event to mark the 80th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter.

“On and on, we see an all-too-familiar pattern: follow when the charter suits, ignore when it does not,” he said. “The Charter of the United Nations is not optional. It is not an a-la-carte menu. It is the bedrock of international relations. We cannot and must not normalize violations of its most basic principles.”

The UN Charter is a declaration of hope — and the foundation of international cooperation for a better world,” said Guterres. “The charter has given us the tools to change destinies, save lives, and deliver hope to the most desperate corners of the world. And we can draw a direct line from the creation of the United Nations and the prevention of a third world war.”

Upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter is a never-ending mission, said Guterres, stressing the need more than ever to respect and re-commit to international law — in words and deeds.

“On this anniversary, I urge all member states to live up to the spirit and letter of the charter, to the responsibilities it demands, and to the future it summons us to build — for peace, for justice, for progress, for we the peoples,” he said.

The UN Charter, the foundational treaty of the world body, was adopted on June 25, 1945, at the San Francisco Conference and was signed by delegates the following day.

  • MIL-OSI China: Transformed NW China desert region emerges as travel hotspot

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

In the blazing heat of June, tourists dash down sun-scorched dunes, ride camels on golden sands, and cool off in shimmering desert pools. Laughter, excitement and the hum of singing bowls fill the air.

Tucked along the edge of the Tengger Desert in northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is Shapotou, a national resort area where river, sand and stars converge.

Once infamous due to encroaching desert dunes and deadly sandstorms, this remote region is now a vibrant symbol of ecological restoration and thriving desert tourism.

In the past, desertification still threatened Shapotou’s very survival, as dunes advanced several meters annually — swallowing fields and homes.

Shapotou first attracted serious attention with the construction of the Baotou-Lanzhou railway in 1958, which was China’s first desert railway. To protect it, national focus and efforts converged at Shapotou.

Researchers and local residents worked together to develop and use a straw checkerboard technique to fight desertification. Along with tree planting and other endeavors, millions united to gradually stop the sand dunes from advancing. Over the course of several decades, the desert eventually retreated by 25 kilometers — a landmark victory in ecological restoration.

With the settling of the desert sands, new opportunities emerged in this region. Former tourism official Tao Neng recalled that officials from Europe and the United States once came to study desertification control at Shapotou, while backpackers from the West were drawn to this area by the mystery of the Silk Road.

Intrigued by their fascination, Tao studied English in Beijing to better understand the appeal. It was then that he realized why people loved the desert — its sunrises, sunsets, rainstorms and rainbows offer rare beauty, far removed from the concrete and pressures of city life.

Though born in the city of Zhongwei in Ningxia, Tao first saw the desert turn pink after rain through this job, while also discovering its hidden oases and villages, and learning to embrace sandstorms as a unique life experience.

To capture these impressions, he kept a notebook in which visitors from around the world could write about their desert journeys. Their reflections sparked ideas that helped lay the foundation for today’s nationally renowned Shapotou tourist area.

Inspired by international desert tourism models, Shapotou introduced sandboarding, desert surfing and even zip-lining across the Yellow River. In 2007, it became a national 5A-level scenic area — drawing nearly 600,000 visitors that year.

Recent years have seen a shift toward premium, immersive desert experiences. In 2020, the first phase of the Desert Star Hotel opened, offering luxury stargazing stays with rooms priced at up to 2,000 yuan (about 279 U.S. dollars) per night. Despite the cost, these rooms are often fully booked.

To cater to younger travelers, the local government built a desert campsite featuring ensuite tents, music festivals and stargazing installations. According to the hotel’s general manager, these tent accommodations enjoyed an occupancy rate of nearly 90 percent last year, while the government’s investment has already been fully recovered.

The booming tourism industry has brought real change to this area. Local data revealed that Zhongwei’s tourism employment level had risen from 40,000 in 2014 to 70,000 in 2024. Major brands now stage product launches in the dunes, while hit reality shows have chosen Shapotou as a backdrop.

The transformation of Shapotou also reflects China’s national strategy of building an ecological civilization — which places green development at the heart of its modernization goals.

Notably, as one of the countries most severely affected by desertification, China has launched large-scale ecological projects to combat land degradation, particularly in its northern and northwestern regions.

Shapotou’s success is part of broader national efforts like the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program, a decades-long afforestation initiative launched in 1978. This massive project has mobilized millions of people to carry out reforestation, sand control and grassland restoration across vast stretches of northwest, north, and northeast China.

By 2023, the program, the world’s largest of its kind, had completed 480 million mu (about 32 million hectares) of afforestation, rehabilitated 1.28 billion mu of degraded grassland, and treated 500 million mu of desertified land. As a result, forest coverage in the project area had increased from 5.05 percent in 1978 to 13.84 percent in 2023.

As a pioneer of desert tourism in China, Shapotou is now developing more upscale desert vacation experiences. In 2024, the Tengol Desert Resort opened its doors, offering minimalist sand-toned villas modeled after ancient Silk Road camel towns. Backed by 200 million yuan in infrastructure investment, the resort runs on sustainable systems — no plastic bottles and no underground water extraction.

Offering 105 rooms, it boasts a spa, bar, desert adventure experiences and gourmet meals, featuring Helan Mountain wine and local Tan sheep. All rooms were fully booked by February for this year’s May Day holiday — 75 percent by women seeking tranquility and quality travel.

“We used to think of the desert as something to conquer,” said Zhang Ying, general manager of the hotel. “Now we’ve learned to live in harmony with it. Even as sandstorms rage outside, our guests can sip coffee and take in the view in complete comfort.”

  • MIL-OSI China: Sino-German cooperation deepens in smart manufacturing

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

As China emerges as a global hub for smart manufacturing and technological innovation, German companies are ramping up their presence and partnerships in the country, moving beyond traditional technology transfer to embrace joint R&D and ecosystem-level collaboration.

At the Sino-German Smart Manufacturing Matchmaking Conference held from Tuesday to Thursday in Hefei, east China’s Anhui Province, nearly 100 German enterprises — including industry leaders like BMW and Siemens — gathered to explore new opportunities, signaling a renewed momentum in bilateral industrial cooperation.

The three-day conference included field visits, matchmaking sessions and in-depth exchanges, resulting in 28 trade and investment deals worth over 6.8 billion yuan (about 949.46 million U.S. dollars). These covered a wide range of sectors, from new energy and intelligent connected vehicles to high-end equipment, life sciences, environmental protection, and artificial intelligence.

For Helmut Heuser, managing director of Wurth Electronic ICS (Shenyang) Co., Ltd., it was already his third trip to Anhui this year — a province now widely recognized for its high-tech orientation and smart manufacturing strengths.

“This region’s automotive industry and innovation capabilities are booming,” said Heuser. “We hope to gain new customers, discover new market possibilities, and seize fresh opportunities here.”

His company has already provided battery management systems and smart controllers for several Chinese companies, including Anhui-based auto giant JAC Motors, and is collaborating in fields like industrial robotics to co-develop new intelligent solutions.

As China’s innovation engine gathers strength, Sino-German cooperation is evolving from one-way technology import into a model of joint innovation and mutual empowerment, offering a collaborative blueprint for global smart manufacturing.

“We are cooperating for decades and decades in the past 40 years. It was very successful, mainly because German companies brought a lot of technology here and support the Chinese companies to upgrade,” said Maximilian Butek, executive director and board member of the German Chamber of Commerce in China, the east China region.

However, he noted that the two sides are now engaged in a different game, as Chinese enterprises and talent are demonstrating strong innovation potential, attracting many German companies to carry out R&D in China and export technologies to the global market.

According to the 2024/2025 Business Confidence Survey by the German Chamber of Commerce in China, 92 percent of member companies plan to stay in China, and about half intend to increase their investment over the next two years.

This long-term commitment reflects not only confidence in the Chinese market, but also recognition of the country’s growing innovation capacity.

In fact, 55 percent of German companies operating in China expect their Chinese counterparts to become innovation leaders in their industries within the next five years, and nearly half of the surveyed firms plan to enhance competitiveness through partnerships with Chinese players.

German high-tech firm Trumpf Group, a century-old leader in machine tools and laser technology, has seen rapid growth in China since entering the market in 2000. It has also deepened cooperation with local partners in advancing manufacturing digitization.

“In the new energy vehicle sector alone, over 2,000 processes require lasers. For example, copper and aluminum alloys — key materials in power batteries — are highly reflective and can create welding splashes that pose safety risks,” said Yang Gang, president of Trumpf Group (China). “By working with Chinese partners, we’ve developed processes to suppress splatter and overcome these technical bottlenecks.”

Sino-German cooperation is now scaling from individual projects to ecosystem-level coordination, encompassing shared technologies, harmonized standards, and integrated production capacity.

Reflecting this growing momentum, earlier this year BMW deepened its local AI ecosystem by integrating DeepSeek, following its strategic partnership with Alibaba in large language models. In June, the Sino-German Standardization Innovation Center was officially launched, aiming to produce more joint standardization outcomes in smart manufacturing and beyond.

Meanwhile, Feiwo Technology signed a strategic cooperation agreement with German aerospace parts manufacturer Heggemann, combining China’s cost-efficiency and Germany’s lean production expertise to jointly develop core aircraft components.

Smart manufacturing has been identified as a national priority in China. And international cooperation — particularly with Germany, a long-time industrial partner — plays a crucial role in driving technological advancement and industrial upgrading.

In the face of growing global uncertainties, many German companies noted that Sino-German cooperation in smart manufacturing is expected to generate mutual benefits and contribute to greater stability in global supply chains.

“Sino-German cooperation offers mutual benefits,” said Heuser. “For China, it is access to German industrial know-how and EU market pathways. For Germany, it is faster innovation cycles and access to China’s vast data resources. Together, we believe we can set global benchmarks for Industry 4.0, combining Germany’s quality-first approach with China’s speed-to-market advantage.”

  • MIL-OSI Video: Central African Republic faces a “delicate juncture” – Security Council Briefing | United Nations

    Source: United Nations (video statements)

Security Council briefing by Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, on the situation in the Central African Republic.

The Central African Republic faces a “delicate juncture,” UN peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix told the Security Council, warning that upcoming elections present both an opportunity and a challenge for the country’s fragile peace process.

“The human rights situation in the Central African Republic remains concerning, with persistent violations and abuses, including conflict-related sexual violence and grave violations of children’s rights,” Lacroix said today (26 Jun).

Despite the ongoing violence, Lacroix noted progress in accountability efforts. He highlighted the work of the Special Criminal Court (SCC), which recently delivered a verdict related to deadly clashes in Ndélé in 2020 between two factions of the Front populaire pour la renaissance de la Centrafrique (FPRC).

“Progress has also been made in advancing judicial accountability, notably by the Special Criminal Court, which is playing a significant role in the fight against impunity and transitional justice,” Lacroix said. But he warned the Court is entering “a critical phase that requires reinforced financial and human resources to sustain and expand its activities.”

Lacroix underscored that the upcoming local, legislative, and presidential elections are “a unique opportunity to strengthen democratic governance and advance national reconciliation,” but stressed that broad international support remains essential.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Rizalits, arches, modillions: 60 neoclassical buildings to undergo major renovations in Moscow

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

In 2025, the Moscow Capital Repair Fund (CRF) will celebrate 10 years since it began operating in the capital. As in previous years of the capital repair program for housing, the city continues to put more and more new buildings in order. Particular attention is paid to preserving the architectural authenticity and iconic buildings. Thus, this year, specialists from the Moscow City Services Complex will renovate 60 buildings built by architects and engineers in the neoclassical style.

Half-columns with capitals, bas-reliefs and modillions

A new life will be given to a seven-story residential building at 3-5 Krasnoprudnaya Street, Building 1. It was built in 1947 in the Soviet neoclassical style. It has a through arched passage. The façade is distinguished by rustication and is richly decorated. To the left of the central vertical axis is a massive group with a pediment: half-columns of the Corinthian and Ionic orders are arranged in three tiers, between which the walls are decorated with panels and bas-reliefs.

The specialists will comprehensively repair the facade and work on the engineering systems. To preserve the original beauty of the building, they developed an individual project, which took into account all the features of its design and selected modern domestic materials. As a result, the house will be transformed, while its architectural individuality will be preserved and its operational qualities will be improved.

Work on the facade will begin with clearing the old paint coating, then the craftsmen will knock off the old plaster. After that, all surfaces will be completely washed. The facade will be plastered again, and the surfaces will be painted. For this, the shades “light brown ash” and “pastel sand” were chosen.

In addition, all decorative elements will be restored: semi-columns with capitals, bas-reliefs, modillions under the crowning cornice. The balconies on the facade will be repaired, and a new external drainage system will be hung. It is planned to update the entrance groups, replace doors and windows in common areas. Craftsmen will put the basement of the building in order, replace the risers of hot and cold water supply, central heating and drainage.

    Stucco, arches and niches

In 2025, a residential building of variable number of storeys (seven, eight and 10 storeys) at 13/3 Sadovaya-Chernogryazskaya Street, building 1, will undergo a major overhaul. It was erected in 1929–1930 according to the design of architect Viktor Kokorin. The building consists of a long rectangular volume with two through passages into the inner courtyard and a quadrangular part. Its ends adjoin the neighbouring houses. The façade has projections, arches and niches. The first two floors are decorated with pilasters, architraves and portals, the balconies of the fifth to seventh floors are decorated with brackets with stucco. Along the perimeter, the house is crowned with a composite profiled cornice with dentils and modillions.

The specialists will put the facade and roof in order, and also replace the engineering systems and risers. The work affecting the facade began with clearing and washing the open surfaces. It is planned to repair all architectural elements: columns, pilasters with capitals, brackets, moldings, crowning cornice. The lost elements will be restored.

After that, the building will be plastered and painted, in particular, the historical colors of beige and light brown oak will be preserved on the facade. In addition, the entrance groups and windows in common areas will be updated, the slopes will be repaired and the ebbs will be replaced, the blind area and base will be put in order, a new external drainage system will be hung on the building. The sheathing and roofing will be laid on the pitched roof, the temperature and humidity regime will be established using mineral wool slabs, and the wooden structures will be treated with a fire-retardant composition.

On the courtyard side of the facade, the external garbage chute is being repaired. In the engineering systems, the main water drainage, cold and hot water supply lines will be replaced. Next, they will work on the central heating and risers.

Pinnacles, interfloor belts and balustrades with pedestals

Recently, a major overhaul of the 16-story building at 120 Mira Avenue was completed. It was built in 1955. Its façade is symmetrical, the central part is accented by a portico and decorated with pilasters with capitals and bas-reliefs. The protruding side wings are highlighted by towers, arched galleries, acroteria and pinnacles. The walls of the lower four floors are treated with rustication. The roof railing is made in the form of a balustrade with pedestals and acroteria.

After a preparatory complex of measures, the four lower floors, covered with rusticated plaster, were painted in a historical pale brown color. The upper floors made of ceramic blocks were hydrophobized: the facade surfaces were covered with a water-repellent layer for reliable protection of the external walls of the building.

Particular attention was paid to the complex architectural decor. The craftsmen restored the appearance of the tower tops and pinnacles, the walls in the arched galleries and the interfloor belts. In addition, the decorative capitals, balustrades with pedestals were repaired. The specialists installed new window units in the common areas, tidied up the entrance groups and balconies, and replaced the drainpipes.

The Moscow City Services Complex noted that the regional housing stock capital repair program being implemented in the capital is in line with the goals and objectives of the national project “Infrastructure for life”.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: The final stage of selection of schoolchildren and students for the Great Arctic Expedition has begun

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

The final stage of selection for the Great Arctic Expedition has begun. More than 40 finalists have gone to a five-day training camp in Karelia, where they will stay until July 4. Based on their results, the participants who will be part of the expedition to the Far North will be determined. This was reported by the press service of the capital’s Department of Education and Science.

“Every year, thousands of Moscow schoolchildren and students apply to participate in the Great Arctic Expedition. This year, it is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The journey will begin in late July – early August and will last about two weeks. 14 schoolchildren and college students will travel to the northernmost point of Eurasia – Cape Chelyuskin. The children will be divided into two groups: volunteer builders will be engaged in landscaping the territory of the memorial complex of pilots and winterers, and researchers will study the flora of the Laptev Sea coast. After the expedition, the participants will present their achievements at a large-scale scientific conference,” the department’s press service reported.

In Karelia, six teams of seven people will work under the guidance of professional tourism instructors. Over the course of five days, young travelers will cover a route of about 60 kilometers. They will have to cook in field conditions, work with tourist equipment, set up tents and conduct scientific research. For example, participants will take photos of plants, mosses, birds and describe the terrain. Experts will evaluate the endurance, responsibility and ability to work in a team of each participant, and then name those who will join the expedition.

To get to the final, candidates had to pass several tests. The first stage of the selection was the Arctic Dictation, where over five thousand contestants tested their knowledge of the geography, history, ecology and economic importance of the Far North. In the second stage, the participants were treated to the adventure game “Heroes of the Arctic”. More than 500 children completed tasks on six interactive platforms. Personal and team results were counted.

“I am applying for the position of a volunteer builder in the expedition. All stages of the selection were very interesting. I especially liked the adventure game. I was very pleased that my friends agreed to help me and we did a great job with the tasks. I have high expectations from the final stage of the selection. I hope that this year I will be able to fit into the team. I have been a member of the “Travel Lab” for a year now. Here I was taught to be friends and work in a team, so I hope that the trip will be great,” said Sofia Taranenko, a student at the Ivan Fedorov Moscow Publishing and Printing College.

The next stage was a professional skills competition, which was held in Sokolniki Park and the Moscow Educational Complex Zapad. Thus, in the volunteer builders’ competition, participants had to demonstrate their skills in painting metal, installing formwork and pouring concrete. In the chefs’ competition, candidates had to prepare certain dishes from the products given to them. The final was the research competition, in which candidates for the team of participants of the Great Arctic Expedition defended their scientific projects before the commission.

The capital’s Department of Education and Science first organized the Great Arctic Expedition in 2018. In 2024, a group of schoolchildren went to Cape Lasinius, and a group of college students went to Cape Chelyuskin. The children skied in the footsteps of the expeditions of the early 20th-century Arctic explorer Eduard Toll and Soviet scientist Ivan Papanin, and also built a mobile station town on Cape Chelyuskin.

Umka, melted snow and an ecological station: how the Great Arctic Expedition 2024 went

The Arctic is not the only place on the globe that Moscow schoolchildren have visited. In the 2024/2025 academic year, 13 young city residents went to the Arctic for the first time.Moscow Youth Antarctic ExpeditionSchoolchildren conducted research on behalf of Russian research institutes, while college students monitored the health of the participants, were responsible for communications, prepared food, and looked after the mobile living module.

About 80 thousand schoolchildren and college students are involved in tourism in the capital – every 20th student. They are united by the city project “The Route is Built”. Over the past year, the children have gone on almost 300 hikes around Russia and other countries. Among the destinations are Kazbek, Tien Shan, North Ossetia, Altai and Kamchatka.

You can find out more about additional education in the capital in Telegram channels “Moscow education” And“Moscow Center for Educational Practices”.

Supplementary education programs develop creative and critical thinking in schoolchildren and develop skills that will be useful to them in their future profession. Events held within the framework of supplementary education contribute to the project “All the best for children” of the national project “Youth and Children”.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: From saving birds to educating Muscovites: how the bird rehabilitation and adaptation center in Sokolniki Park is organized

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

Get to know black crows, see how tawny owls pretend to be trees, and make a bird out of feathers and wood chips – all this can be done at the bird rehabilitation and adaptation center Moscow Zoo, which opened at the end of May in Sokolniki ParkIts employees nurse wounded birds of prey listed in the Red Book back to health and release them into the wild, while telling guests about the bird world.

mos.ru correspondents visited the center and found out what birds are found in Moscow and the Moscow region, how a background species differs from a synanthropic one, whether an injured individual can return to the wild, and why it is important to teach city residents from childhood to take care of the environment.

    First aid for predators

The Moscow Zoo Bird Recovery and Adaptation Center is located in 1st Luchevoy Prosek. This is a fenced area among trees, above which rises a fly-in area — a pavilion under a latticed, as if woven, dome with an area of about 700 square meters. Adjacent to it is an observation deck with a lawn and greenery. From here, the entire territory of the center is clearly visible, in particular the veterinary clinic and rounded enclosures covered with panels (lamellas). Birds are comfortable in such an environment.

“There is enough space for 100 birds here, but we do not plan to keep that many. Birds need a free life, they should fly, hunt, and not sit in a cage. Therefore, our task is to help our charges get on the wing and release them as quickly as possible. We save birds of prey, as well as storks, herons, cranes and other birds listed in the Red Book and return them to the wild,” says the head of the center, Alexander Tomashevsky.

According to him, swifts, pigeons and grey crows can be nursed back to health by yourself or by seeking help from the nearest veterinary clinic.

“Such bird species are called background: their population is very large, and, as sad as it may sound, the death of individual birds is part of natural selection. Therefore, we cannot take them into care. The center’s specialists work with predatory species: there are initially fewer of them in the natural food chain, and in the conditions of anthropogenic landscapes, their numbers decrease,” our interlocutor explains.

If the found bird is classified as a predator or is included in the Red Book, leave a preliminary application by phone: 112 or the number of the single information service of the Moscow City Hall: 7 495 777-77-77. After that, the bird can be brought to the center, where veterinarians will decide on the possibility of saving it.

Alexander Tomashevsky is a veterinarian who understands bird diseases. “Fresh injuries, no older than 10 days, are usually operable and curable, even a broken wing. Birds do not have subcutaneous tissue like humans, and in the case of a fracture, the bone pierces the muscles and comes out. If you do not provide assistance in time, this section of the bone dies. When the injury is recent, we check whether the ligaments and tendons are damaged (they cannot be restored), and if not, we install a special structure – an external fixation device,” says the head of the center.

The fracture heals within 30 days. From the first days after the operation, the bird gradually begins to develop the injured limb. A month later, when the ability to fly freely is fully restored, it is released into the wild. “A large flight cage is not required. It is enough for the bird to try out the wing in the aviary,” explains Alexander Tomashevsky.

The veterinary clinic is located on the territory of the adaptation center, its examination room has a glass wall so that visitors can watch how doctors examine patients. This is part of the educational work.

In the capital Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection remind that in the event of a situation involving wild animals that requires urgent intervention, you must call: 7 495 777-77-77. The experts also emphasize that the removal of animals from their natural environment without the appropriate permits violates environmental legislation.

    Arkasha, Karkusha and Karkasha

There are currently 37 birds living in the center. Unfortunately, they cannot be released into the wild: some have a broken wing or leg that has not healed properly, and some were born in captivity and are unable to get food on their own.

The birds were housed in oval outdoor enclosures, each species having its own “nest” measuring three to six square meters. Inside, there is a shelf covered with green flooring the color of the grass, dividing the space into two floors.

Those who can fly use both tiers, while those who cannot stay on the lower tier. There are signs on the enclosures with information about the birds for those who come on excursions. They are held every hour from 10:00 to 18:00 (the last session is at 17:00).

“These birds now act as storytellers: by watching them, visitors learn what species live in our region, become familiar with their biological characteristics and understand how important it is to protect nature. After all, it is mostly people who hurt animals. The mission of our center is, first of all, educational,” emphasizes Alexander Tomashevsky.

One of the enclosures is home to tawny owls and long-eared owls. During the day, they sit on a perch and, frozen, pretend to be tree bark. Indeed, you won’t notice them from afar, you’ll mistake them for protrusions on the trunk. “These birds hide all day. This is because they are hunted by crows, who find tawny owls by their bright eyes,” explains the head of the center.

Four kestrels have settled in another house. These colorful birds are synanthropic, meaning they live in cities, among people, making nests in ventilation holes. The kestrel catches mice, hovering for a long time and fluttering its wings over the fields. Often the birds lie in wait for prey by the road, which is why they become victims of motorists.

Three more enclosures are occupied by buzzards: rough-legged, common and long-legged. “They can be used to study the geography of our country. The smallest species of buzzards live in the south, their small size allows them to cool off easily in the heat. And the large ones, on the contrary, are natives of the north, where they have to accumulate fat in case of cold and hunger,” notes Alexander Tomashevsky.

We stop at the house of an eagle named Arkasha. He is huge. He was born and raised in captivity, so he is not afraid of people and looks with interest at bright accessories, such as a yellow umbrella. “Soon, a tall, long pavilion, originally intended for crows, will be built for him and several other eagles: we will hang a swing and various shelves there,” explains the mos.ru source.

While we are walking around the center, the staff are feeding two black ravens – Karkusha and Karkasha. They are brother and sister, about a year old. The crows were picked up about a month ago in the park. The birds have a high level of intelligence, equal to that of a dog. They are very trainable. Therefore, Alexander Tomashevsky and his colleagues decided to keep Karkusha and Karkasha for a future show that visitors will soon be able to see.

“We are currently teaching them not to be afraid of people. We put food on a glove so that the birds sit on the hand, and we slowly touch them. When the birds get used to human attention, we will begin training them in the nesting area: we will teach them to circle and return to the hand. While the crow chicks are small, although they look like adults, even their beaks are pink inside: a bright color in nature allows parents to find their children and bring them food. Later, the beaks will turn black,” says Angelina Rodionova, a methodologist at the Moscow Zoo’s bird rehabilitation and adaptation center.

Birds are easy to train. For example, they can get an object from the bottom of a bottle using a stick held in their paws.

    Grains of knowledge

The show will take place in the exhibition area, where an amphitheater for spectators will soon be built.

“This show will be educational, not entertaining. First, we plan to conduct a tour, tell visitors about bird species, what harm humans can do to them, why all birds are important in nature, and then we will show what they can do. For example, goshawks live in forests and know no obstacles. We will demonstrate this skill: the bird will fly through a narrow pipe, folding its wings. And the black kite always hovers over its prey and never lands – the audience will see this too. We will also talk about falconry, including nature conservation, based on humane and competent use of nature,” says Alexander Tomashevsky.

Another part of the center’s educational work is master classes, which are held on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in a separate pavilion. Participation in them is included in the price of the excursion ticket, which can be purchased at the box office at the entrance. Guests are offered to make a bird from genuine leather, feathers, pieces of wood, chips and other ecological materials. Samples of such products from previous classes are displayed on the shelves.

“Not all people, especially children, understand how wild nature works, what laws and rules there are. Our task is to sow at least a grain of knowledge so that visitors think and take a closer look at what surrounds them,” the mos.ru source sums up.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Experts from the capital’s consumer portal gave recommendations for online shopping

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

Online shopping has become an integral part of city residents’ lives. It can be done at any time of the day, it allows you to save time on going to the store, and also choose goods from a wider range and often at lower prices than in retail outlets. But despite the obvious advantages of distance selling, it also has disadvantages – often purchases are not delivered on time, and the quality of the purchased goods does not meet expectations. Experts capital consumer portalgave simple recommendations on what to pay attention to when shopping online, how to defend your rights and avoid falling for the tricks of scammers.

“When choosing and paying for food, clothing, footwear or medicines on the websites of stores and marketplaces, a number of features should be taken into account. They are described in detail in the materials of the capital’s consumer portal. Step-by-step instructions are also published here to help return goods and protect consumer rights in the event of disputes. For the convenience of city residents, all thematic materials are collected in the “Remote Selling” section. In addition, you can quickly find the expert’s advice you need by entering a query in the search bar,” the press service of the capital said.

    Department of Information Technology.

What You Need to Know About Online Trading

The main feature of distance selling is that the buyer cannot examine the product in person before purchasing it. Therefore, the seller is obliged to provide information about its main consumer properties on their website, by phone or in other information materials (catalogs, brochures, photographs, etc.). In addition, the buyer must know the form and methods of filing claims, the procedure and terms for returning the product. You can read more about the nuances of online trading in of this publication.

It happens that the delivered item does not look the same in reality as in the catalog on the store’s website or on the product card of the marketplace, or does not fit in color, appearance or size. This may apply to both shoes and clothes, as well as household goods. In this case, the consumer has the right to return a product of proper quality within seven days of receipt. It is important that the item retains its presentation and consumer properties. In this case, the seller may retain the costs of return shipping. And if the buyer receives a defective product, the seller is obliged to bear the costs of its transportation. Experts spoke about other details of the purchase return procedure in in this material.

You can buy not only things online, but also over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements (DS). However, buying these products requires a particularly careful approach to avoid possible risks. Thus, it is important to remember that the sale of drugs via the Internet is carried out by pharmacies that have had a license for at least one year and have the appropriate permission from the Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare. Individual entrepreneurs do not have the right to sell drugs online.

When receiving medications, it is worth examining the packaging, checking its integrity and the presence of markings. And in order to safely purchase dietary supplements online, you need to make sure that the product has a state registration certificate. You can check this on the Rospotrebnadzor website in the section “Register of State Registration Certificates”. What else is important to pay attention to when buying medicines and dietary supplements online is explained in this expert article, and also in thematic video.

How to protect your rights when shopping online

You can encounter fraud and dishonesty of sellers in online trading on resources for posting ads. Experts advise using a simple algorithm of actions to protect yourself and your funds when ordering goods through marketplaces. For example, you should not communicate with the seller outside the trading platform via instant messengers, and you must pay for goods or services only through the payment services offered by the selected Internet platform. To protect the consumer from financial losses, funds are blocked until the purchase is received. The trading platform sends them to the seller only when the customer receives the order.

If after paying for the goods there are controversial situations with the seller, which he refuses to resolve by oral appeal, the consumer has the right to make a written claim. The procedure in such a case is described in the article “Pre-trial procedure for resolving disputes on consumer rights protection issues”. You can file a claim using ready templateon the portal.

Consumer portal was created in 2022 by the Moscow Government and the Moscow Office of Rospotrebnadzor. The resource contains more than 230 materials: articles, instructions, memos, webinars, and expert interviews. In addition to practical recommendations from experts, the publications contain the names of relevant regulations that can be relied on when communicating with legal entities or individual entrepreneurs to protect consumer rights.

You can also get advice on consumer rights protection issues by calling the 24-hour hotline of the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for the city of Moscow: 7 495 539-36-96.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Moscow Family to Compete for the Title of Most Financially Literate in Russia

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

The regional stage of the II All-Russian Family Festival of Savings and Investments has ended in Moscow. 21 Moscow teams competed for the right to reach the final of the competition. Participants demonstrated their knowledge of investment products and an effective approach to savings, as well as their intelligence, erudition and resourcefulness.

This year, the festival includes three stages – municipal, regional and federal. Families from 29 regions of Russia participate in them. The qualifying rounds were held in the format of intellectual tournaments, quizzes, tests and other events. The organizers of the Moscow stages are the capital Department of Finance and the city’s Center for Financial Literacy.

The first qualifying round took place during the financial literacy day at the Northern River Terminal. The event was attended by 39 Moscow teams, for whom the organizers prepared several competitive tasks. Thus, it was necessary to find the right solutions in matters of distributing the family budget and insuring savings, as well as analyze simulated situations, trying to recognize the actions of illegal investment companies and false brokers.

The second stage was held in the Technograd Innovation and Education Complex at VDNKh. The winning teams took part in quizzes, intellectual games and master classes. Vladimir Shibeko, a festival participant, said that the topic of savings was easy for his team, but they had to think about investments.

“The tasks turned out to be tricky, but that’s what made it even more interesting. Especially in the quiz, where questions on financial topics were presented in the context of literature, history, and art. It was difficult to give an answer in 10 seconds, but we managed,” Vladimir Shibeko shared.

The game “Financial Ingenuity” helped test the participants’ knowledge of budget planning, forming a financial goal and creating a safety cushion. During the intellectual tournament “Investments for All” families discussed the stock market, securities and various investment methods.

In addition, educational events were held especially for the festival participants: a lecture on savings products and a master class on a long-term savings program. Experts explained how non-state pension funds help create additional income in the future and a financial safety net in case of unforeseen situations.

Yulia Simonova, a participant of the festival, shared her impressions, noting that it was not just a competition, but a real training platform. After each test, experts from the financial literacy center analyzed the participants’ mistakes in detail and gave recommendations on choosing financial instruments. All this turned out to be very exciting and useful.

The expert jury recorded the points scored by the teams. As a result of the calculations, the Nadvorny family team, represented by four participants of different generations, became the leader. They demonstrated excellent knowledge in the field of finance, and now they will have to compete with other winners from 28 regions of Russia for the title of the most financially literate family in the country. Irina, the team captain, noted that many rivals presented serious competition.

“We understand how strong our opponents will be in the final, so we are already preparing for the final stage of the festival. We have thought out a strategy that we will follow. We will try to win the title of the most financially literate family in Russia,” Irina Nadvornaya noted.

The second place was taken by the Simonov family, and the bronze prize winners of the festival were the Rudenkovs. The participants of the competition received certificates and memorable gifts.

The final will take place on September 6–7 this year at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.

The All-Russian Family Festival of Savings and Investments was held for the first time in 2024. The competition is organized by the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, and the main partners are the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation and the Research Financial Institute of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation. This year, 3,200 teams took part in the municipal stage, and 629 families from all over the country took part in the regional stage.

To Action: New Zealand Flag half-masting to mark the burial of Takutai Moana Natasha Kemp, Member of Parliament for Tāmaki Makaurau
    Tuesday 1 July 2025, 8am – 5pm (or building hours)
At the request of the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, the Honourable Paul Goldsmith, the New Zealand Flag is to be flown at half-mast on all Government and public buildings on Tuesday 1 July 2025 to mark the burial of Takutai Moana Natasha Kemp MP.
The New Zealand Flag should be flown at half-mast all day on Tuesday 1 July 2025. This instruction applies to all Government Departments, buildings and naval vessels which have flag poles and normally fly the New Zealand Flag. The Flag should be returned to full mast at the close of business hours on Tuesday 1 July 2025.
The flag is half-masted by first raising it to the top of the mast and then immediately lowering it slowly to the half-mast position. The half-mast position will depend on the size of the flag and the length of the flagpole. The flag must be lowered to a position recognisably “half-mast” to avoid the appearance of a flag which has accidentally fallen away from the top of the flagpole. As a guide, the flag should be more than its own depth from the top of the flagpole. At the end of the day, the flag should be raised again to the top of the flagpole before being fully lowered.
For more information about half-masting the flag, visit the Ministry’s website:

  • MIL-OSI Asia-Pac: US consul’s remarks rebutted

    Source: Hong Kong Information Services

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today issued a strong condemnation of remarks by Consul General of the US to Hong Kong Gregory May, stating that they are untrue, biased and deliberately intended to mislead the public and smear the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Hong Kong SAR’s work to safeguard national security.

In a statement, the Hong Kong SAR Government stressed that as legal proceedings in the case involving Lai Chee-ying are still ongoing, it is inappropriate for any person to comment on the details of the case. It urged US politicians to immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong’s internal affairs and the independent exercise of judicial power by its courts.

The statement emphasised that governments have an inherent right to enact laws safeguarding national security, in accordance with international law and international practice based on the UN Charter.

It added that as the US has at least 21 laws safeguarding national security, US politicians who point fingers at the Hong Kong SAR’s legal system and enforcement mechanisms display only hypocrisy and double standards while entirely disregarding the constitutional and practical needs of Hong Kong, as well as the positive effects brought about by Hong Kong’s national security legislation on its economic development and protection of human rights.

The Hong Kong SAR Government highlighted that Hong Kong’s law enforcement agencies take actions based on evidence and strictly in accordance with the law, and that such actions have nothing to do the political views, backgrounds or occupations of persons or entities concerned. It added that anyone charged with a criminal offence in Hong Kong will receive a fair trial as protected by the Basic Law and the Hong Kong Bill of Rights.

The statement charged that attempts by any country, organisation, or individual to interfere with the judicial proceedings in Hong Kong to procure a defendant’s evasion of criminal justice amount to blatant acts undermining the rule of law and should be condemned.

It said the notion that people or organisations with certain backgrounds should be immune from legal sanction for their illegal acts is tantamount to granting them privileges to break the law, perverts the course of justice, and runs contrary to the spirit of the rule of law.

The Hong Kong SAR Government also outlined that extraterritorial effect for offences under the National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance (SNSO) fully aligns with the principles of international law and international practice, and is both necessary and legitimate.

It added that absconders hiding in the US and other Western countries are wanted because they continue to blatantly engage in activities endangering national security, such as inciting secession and requesting that foreign countries impose “sanctions” or blockades and engage in other hostile activities against the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong. Such persons, it emphasised, continue to collude with external forces to cover their evil deeds, making it necessary for Hong Kong’s law enforcement agencies to take all lawful measures to combat these acts.

The Hong Kong SAR Government said that that it will resolutely, fully and faithfully implement the National Security Law, the SNSO and other relevant laws safeguarding national security to prevent, suppress and impose punishment for acts and activities endangering national security.

It added that it will concurrently uphold the rights and freedoms of its people in accordance with the law so as to ensure the steadfast and successful implementation of the principle of “one country, two systems”.

  • MIL-Evening Report: Caitlin Johnstone: The fictional mental illness that only affects enemies of the Western empire

Report by Dr David Robie – Café Pacific.

    COMMENTARY: By Caitlin Johnstone

Within the storytelling of Western politics and punditry there exists a fictional type of mental illness which only affects people the US empire doesn’t like.

If Iran gets a nuclear weapon, its crazy lunatic government will flip out and nuke us all.

Watch out for Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, those guys are a bunch of maniacal antisemites who want to attack Israelis just because they’re Jewish.

“The stories of the Western empire ask us to believe that everyone who finds themselves in the imperial crosshairs is an irrational actor whose loony behavior can only be attributed to some uncontrollable defect within their own minds, or who will soon snap and do something nutty if they are not contained by force.”

Oh no, Putin is invading Ukraine completely unprovoked because he’s a madman who hates freedom and won’t stop until he’s conquered all of Europe.

China is building up its military because the megalomaniacal Xi Jinping wants to take over the world; all those US military bases surrounding China are just a defensive measure to contain Beijing’s insanity.

Assad just went nuts one day and started slaughtering his own people out of nowhere.

Gaddafi is a sexual sadist who’s giving Viagra to his troops to help them commit mass rapes in Libya.

    So crazy
Saddam Hussein is so crazy and evil he’s trying to obtain weapons of mass destruction to give Americans another 9/11.

The North Koreans used to be far too insane to be allowed to have nuclear weapons because they’d nuke San Francisco immediately, but after they obtained nuclear weapons they were miraculously cured of this rare psychological disorder.

The stories of the Western empire ask us to believe that everyone who finds themselves in the imperial crosshairs is an irrational actor whose loony behavior can only be attributed to some uncontrollable defect within their own minds, or who will soon snap and do something nutty if they are not contained by force.

One antagonist who never appears in these fairy tales of the Western empire is the Western empire itself. In the storytelling of the empire, there is no globe-spanning power structure which is constantly inflicting violence and destruction upon populations around the world while seeking to crush any nation who disobeys its dictates.

It’s just a bunch of irrational psychos, seeking nuclear weapons and becoming aggressively militaristic for no other reason than because they are crazy, while the totally normal alliance led by a totally normal country in North America innocently responds to their crazy behavior.

That’s the story. In real life, the most aggressive and unreasonable actor on the world stage by far is the empire-like power structure that is loosely centralised around Washington DC. Nobody else is constantly waging wars of aggression around the world. Nobody else is circling the planet with hundreds of military bases for the purpose of global domination. Nobody else has spent the 21st century killing millions of people and deliberately targeting civilians with starvation sanctions in countries on the other side of the planet.

Only the US-centralised empire has been doing these things.

    Vicious imperial power
But we are asked to believe that this vicious imperial power structure is the only rational actor on earth, and that those who resist its aggressions are the crazy ones.

And you are told that if you can’t see this, then you’re crazy too. You’re a crackpot. A conspiracy theorist. A paranoid nutball whose voice should be marginalised and whose ideas should be dismissed with a scoff.

You are crazy if you don’t believe what the world’s craziest power structure says about its enemies being crazy.

It is gaslighting on a global scale. It is madness, and that is why this civilisation has gone mad.

Let’s hope someone finds a way to protect the world from the insanity of the Western empire.

  • Nike plans to reduce reliance on China production for US market to soften tariff blow

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

Nike said it would cut its reliance on production in China for the U.S. market to mitigate the impact from U.S. tariffs on imports, and forecast a smaller-than-expected drop in first-quarter revenue, sending its shares up 11% in extended trading.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on imports from key trading partners could add around $1 billion to Nike’s costs, company executives said on a post-earnings call after the sportswear giant topped estimates for fourth-quarter results.

China, subject to the biggest tariff increases imposed by Trump, accounts for about 16% of the shoes Nike imports into the United States, Chief Financial Officer Matthew Friend said.

But the company aims to cut the figure to a “high single-digit percentage range” by the end of May 2026 as it reallocates China production to other countries.

“We will optimize our sourcing mix and allocate production differently across countries to mitigate the new cost headwind into the United States,” he said on a call with investors.

Consumer goods is one of the most affected areas by the tariff dispute between the world’s two largest economies, but Nike’s executives said they were focused on cutting the financial pain.

Nike will “evaluate” corporate cost reductions to deal with the tariff impact, Friend said. The company has already announced price increases for some products in the U.S.

“The tariff impact is significant. However, I expect others in the sportswear industry will also raise prices, so Nike may not lose much share in the U.S.,” said David Swartz, analyst at Morningstar Research.

    RUNNING FINDS ITS FOOTING

CEO Elliott Hill’s strategy to focus product innovation and marketing around sports is beginning to show some fruit with the running category returning to growth in the fourth quarter after several quarters of weakness.

Having lost share in the fast-growing running market, Nike has invested heavily in running shoes such as Pegasus and Vomero, while scaling back production of sneakers such as the Air Force 1.

“Running has performed especially strongly for Nike,” said Citi analyst Monique Pollard, adding that new running shoes and sportswear products are expected to offset the declines in Nike’s classic sneaker franchises at wholesale partner stores.

Marketing spending was up 15% year-on-year in the quarter. On Thursday, Nike hosted an event in which its sponsored athlete Faith Kipyegon attempted to run a mile in under four minutes.

Paced by other star athletes in the glitzy and live-streamed from a Paris stadium, Kipyegon fell short of the goal but set a new unofficial record.

Nike forecast first-quarter revenue to fall in the mid-single digits, slightly better than analysts’ expectations of a 7.3% drop, according to data compiled by LSEG.

Its fourth-quarter sales fell 12% to $11.10 billion, but still beat estimates of a 14.9% drop to $10.72 billion.

China continued to be a pain point, with executives saying a turnaround in the country will take time as Nike contends with tougher economic conditions and competition.

The company’s inventory was flat year-over-year at $7.5 billion as of May 31.

The Rath Yatra, observed with great pomp and traditional rituals in Odisha’s Puri and cities like Ahmedabad, symbolises the annual journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra from the Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple.
