  • MIL-OSI United Nations: Nuclear Energy Education Gets a Boost from the IAEA

Source: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

The IAEA conducted its first INEAS university mission in April in Ust Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, a country that is looking to restart its nuclear power programme. The mission — which engaged more than 90 participants from academia, government and industry — laid the ground for the development of a new bachelor’s degree programme in the ‘Operation of Nuclear Power Plants’ at the D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University. It included curriculum workshops, technical visits and stakeholder consultations.

The IAEA also participated in an international forum with 14 expert presentations from Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia, highlighting international best practices in nuclear education. Key outcomes included recommendations for planning national human resources development, curriculum enhancement, and expansion of cooperation through IAEA technical projects and STAR-NET, a regional network that promotes education and training in nuclear technologies.

“We are grateful to the IAEA for sending experts to our university to support the development of nuclear energy infrastructure. Their assistance also proved very helpful in designing the educational programme,” said Aizhan Baidildina, an associate professor at the the D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University.

Kazakhstan, which is working with the IAEA to develop the infrastructure to reintroduce nuclear power, aims to complete its first nuclear power reactor in the next eight years. Its construction is expected to provide clean, reliable energy to the Central Asian country of 19 million people. Scientific and technical personnel are also being trained to operate the plant. Kazakhstan has the second largest uranium reserves in the world, accounting for 14 per cent of the global total. The country currently operates research reactors as well as several other nuclear installations related to the front end of the nuclear fuel cycle.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: IMF Staff Completes 2025 Article IV Mission with Nigeria

Source: IMF – News in Russian

    July 2, 2025

Washington, DC: The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded the Article IV Consultation with Nigeria.1

The Nigerian authorities have implemented major reforms over the past two years which have improved macroeconomic stability and enhanced resilience. The authorities have removed costly fuel subsidies, stopped monetary financing of the fiscal deficit and improved the functioning of the foreign exchange market. Investor confidence has strengthened, helping Nigeria successfully tap the Eurobond market and leading to a resumption of portfolio inflows. At the same time, poverty and food insecurity have risen, and the government is now focused on raising growth.

Growth accelerated to 3.4 percent in 2024, driven mainly by increased hydrocarbon output and vibrant services sector. Agriculture remained subdued, owing to security challenges and sliding productivity. Real GDP is expected to expand by 3.4 percent in 2025, supported by the new domestic refinery, higher oil production and robust services. Against a complex and uncertain external environment, medium-term growth is projected to hover around 3½ percent, supported by domestic reform gains.

Gross and net international reserves increased in 2024, with a strong current account surplus and improved portfolio inflows. Reforms to the fx market and foreign exchange interventions have brought stability to the naira.

Naira stabilization and improvements in food production brought inflation to 23.7 percent year-on-year in April 2025 from 31 percent annual average in 2024 in the backcasted rebased CPI index released by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics. Inflation should decline further in the medium-term with continued tight macroeconomic policies and a projected easing of retail fuel prices.

Fiscal performance improved in 2024. Revenues benefited from naira depreciation, enhanced revenue administration and higher grants, which more-than-offset rising interest and overheads spending.

Downside risks have increased with heightened global uncertainty. A further decline in oil prices or increase in financing costs would adversely affect growth, fiscal and external positions, undermine financial stability and exacerbate exchange rate pressures. A deterioration of security could impact growth and food insecurity.

    Executive Board Assessment2

Executive Directors agreed with the thrust of the staff appraisal. They commended the authorities on the successful implementation of significant reforms during the past two years and welcomed the associated gains in macroeconomic stability and resilience. As these gains have yet to benefit all Nigerians, and with heightened economic uncertainty and significant downside risks, Directors emphasized the importance of agile policy making to safeguard and enhance macroeconomic stability, creating enabling conditions to boost growth, and reducing poverty.

Directors agreed that the Central Bank of Nigeria is appropriately maintaining a tight monetary policy stance, which should continue until disinflation becomes entrenched. They welcomed the discontinuation of deficit monetization and ongoing efforts to strengthen central bank governance to set the institutional foundation for inflation targeting. Directors also welcomed steps taken by the authorities to build reserves and support market confidence and praised reforms to the foreign exchange market that supported price discovery and liquidity. They called for implementation of a robust foreign exchange intervention framework focused on containing excess volatility, stressing that the exchange rate is an important shock absorber. Directors also agreed with staff’s call to phase out existing capital flow management measures in a properly timed and sequenced manner.

Directors called for a neutral fiscal stance to safeguard macroeconomic stabilization with priority given to investments that enhance growth. Directors also called for accelerating the delivery of cash transfers to assist the poor. They commended the authorities on advancing the tax reform bill, an important step towards enhancing revenue mobilization and creating fiscal space for development spending, while preserving debt sustainability.

Directors recognized actions to strengthen the banking system, including the ongoing process of increasing banks’ minimum capital. They welcomed the authorities’ efforts to boost financial inclusion and promote capital market development, while emphasizing the importance of moving to a robust risk‑based supervision for mortgage and consumer lending schemes as well as the fintech and crypto sectors. Directors welcomed progress made in strengthening the AML/CFT framework and stressed the importance of resolving remaining weaknesses to exit the FATF grey list.

To lift Nigeria’s growth outlook, improve food security, and reduce fragility, Directors highlighted the importance of tackling security, red tape, agricultural productivity, infrastructure gaps, including boosting electricity supply, as well as improved health and education spending, and making the economy more resilient to climate events. They noted that addressing structural impediments to private credit extension is also needed to support growth. Directors welcomed the IMF’s capacity development to support authorities’ reform efforts and agreed that enhancing data quality is critical for sound, data‑driven policymaking.

1 Under Article IV of the IMF’s Articles of Agreement, the IMF holds bilateral discussions with members, usually every year. Staff hold separate annual discussions with the regional institutions responsible for common policies in four currency unions—the Euro Area, the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union, the Central African Economic and Monetary Union, and the West African Economic and Monetary Union. For each of the currency unions, staff teams visit the regional institutions responsible for common policies in the currency union, collects economic and financial information, and discusses with officials the currency union’s economic developments and policies. On return to headquarters, the staff prepares a report, which forms the basis of discussion by the Executive Board. Both staff’s discussions with the regional institutions and the Board discussion of the annual staff report will be considered an integral part of the Article IV consultation with each member.

2 At the conclusion of the discussion, the Managing Director, as Chairman of the Board, summarizes the views of Executive Directors, and this summary is transmitted to the country’s authorities. An explanation of any qualifiers used in summings up can be found here: http://www.IMF.org/external/np/sec/misc/qualifiers.htm. The Executive Board takes decisions under its lapse-of-time procedure when the Board agrees that a proposal can be considered without convening formal discussions.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Huffman, Pallone, Castor, Padilla, Booker, Reed Lead Charge to Block Trump’s Dangerous Offshore Drilling Plan

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Jared Huffman Representing the 2nd District of California

    June 16, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Jared Huffman (D-Calif.), U.S. House Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone (D-N.J.), Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.), Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.), and Senator Jack Reed (D-R.I.) along with 40 Democratic Colleagues in the House and Senate submitted formal comments to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), opposing any new or expanded offshore oil and gas leasing in the Trump administration’s proposed updates to the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas leasing program.

In their letter to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, the lawmakers warned that more offshore drilling would threaten our national security, coastal communities, marine life, and local economies – all while handing more giveaways to an industry already sitting on millions of acres of unused leases. They urged the agency to exclude any new leasing in the final program.

“New or expanded oil and gas leasing poses risks to the health and livelihoods of our constituents, jeopardizes our tourism, fishing, and recreational economies, and threatens the marine life that inhabits our coastlines” the members wrote. “New, unnecessary lease sales will lock in decades more of pollution and climate impacts from an industry that already holds more than 2,000 offshore leases covering more than 12 million acres of federal water, of which only 469 leases are currently producing oil and gas. The United States is already the number one producer of oil and gas in the world. There is no need for increased leasing, especially when oil and gas companies continue to impose environmental and climate consequences, public health risks, and billions of dollars in cleanup costs on the American people.”

Members also reminded the Secretary of the long-standing legal restrictions that prevent the administration from offering lease sales in protected areas.

“We remind the agency that it cannot offer sales in areas permanently protected under Section 12(a) of OCSLA, including areas off the Atlantic coast, the Pacific off the coast of California, Oregon, and Washington, the Eastern Gulf of Mexico, and portions of the Artic Ocean, including the Beaufort Sea and Chukchi Sea planning areas. In 2017, during his first term, President Trump attempted to reverse President Obama’s Arctic and Atlantic withdrawals, but Judge Sharon Gleason for the District Court of Alaska determined that Section 12(a) does not give the president authority to revoke prior withdrawals. President Trump does not have the authority to reverse the Obama and Biden withdrawals, and his Executive Order of January 2025, which attempts to do so, is unlawful.”

During his first term, the Trump administration proposed 47 lease sales over five years, covering nearly every U.S. coastline. Fortunately, this program was never finalized due to litigation and strong bipartisan opposition. But now, with the Biden administration’s leasing plan under review and Secretary Burgum signaling that protections may be on the chopping block, lawmakers are raising the alarm once again.

At a budget hearing last week, Secretary Burgum refused to commit to protecting Florida’s Gulf Coast from new oil and gas leasing, saying only that “the administration may be considering opportunities.” This region has long been protected by both bipartisan legislation and administrative withdrawals – protections that are now under threat.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Huffman Statement on Senate Passage of the Big, Ugly Bill

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Jared Huffman Representing the 2nd District of California

    July 01, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) released the following statement after the Senate passed President Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill:

“The Senate just jammed through a scorched-earth reconciliation bill so toxic that it is worse than the House version if you can believe it. It takes away healthcare from millions of Americans, rips food assistance from kids and seniors, and guts the very safeguards that protect our clean air and water — all to reward the same fossil fuel CEOs Trump asked for a billion-dollar campaign check. It props up the dirty energy of the past, suffocates clean energy, and sticks American families with higher costs, dirtier air and water, and growing floods, fires, and climate disasters.

“Republicans tried to push through the biggest public lands sell-off in modern history — and got rejected so badly they had to yank it. But make no mistake: this bill still guts protections, opens millions of acres to drilling, mining and logging, and rewrites the rules into a pay-to-play scheme for Trump’s billionaire donors. And this just adds to what the Trump administration is already doing to sell out our public lands to polluters and developers.

“This isn’t a beautiful bill; it’s a Big Betrayal. It slashes hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs. It kneecaps investments that are finally flowing to rural towns, Tribal Nations, and working-class communities. And it would drive up costs across the board — electricity, healthcare, food — forcing families to pay more just so fossil fuel CEOs and already wealthy corporations can rake in record profits. No wonder nearly two-thirds of Americans oppose it.

“Now it heads back to the House, where Republicans better be ready to explain why they’re ripping up healthcare and food assistance, selling out public lands, gutting clean air and water safeguards, and driving up energy bills, all so billionaires and Big Oil CEOs can get richer.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: CT DEEP Releases New Wildlife Action Plan with Support from UConn’s CAHNR

    Source: US State of Connecticut

A group of researchers in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment provided critical support for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP)’s latest Wildlife Action Plan.

The UConn team was led by College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR) faculty Chadwick Rittenhouse, associate professor in residence and associate department head; Tracy Rittenhouse, associate professor; and Ph.D. student Kathryn Bischoff ‘22 (CAHNR).

This is the third Wildlife Action Plan that Connecticut, along with every other U.S. state, has released. The first report was released in 2005 following a federal requirement that states create a plan for wildlife conservation every 10 years. The plans identify animal species of greatest conservation need, their habitats, and the challenges they face. By identifying these priorities, states can better direct conservation, policy, and research. Funding for this planning effort was provided in part by State and Tribal Wildlife Grants, a program providing funding to states for biodiversity conservation.

The Belted Kingfisher is one of over 1,000 species identified in the 2025 Connecticut Wildlife Action Plan as a Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). SGCN include plants, invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. (Paul J. Fusco/CT DEEP Wildlife Division)

A draft of the plan was released last week and is open for public comment until July 27.

During the public comment period, anyone can provide feedback on the list of species and habitats in need of conservation, the types of actions they would be most interested in taking in their community, or any other part of the plan.

“That public review is a very important part of wildlife management and conservation,” Tracy Rittenhouse says. “There’s a long, long list of potential actions that can be taken, and hopefully some of those actions resonate with different people who can see that list and say, ‘I can do that’ or ‘my group, we can do this’.”

DEEP and the UConn team worked closely with a diverse group of stakeholders in the state, including the Connecticut Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, land trusts, fish and game clubs, community groups like garden clubs, organizations based in urban areas, as well as municipal and town governments in developing the plan. The creation of this plan also included “Taxa teams” who contributed detailed knowledge about specific groups of animals – like mammals, amphibians, insects, or birds.

“From UConn’s perspective, I really do value the relationship with the state agency and their willingness to partner with people who have the expertise, who have the abilities, who have that desire to contribute to conservation in the state,” Chadwick Rittenhouse says.

Some of the concrete conservation actions in the plan include things like protecting land, vegetation management, habitat restoration efforts, increasing enforcement of existing protection laws, and continuing research and monitoring to learn more about high-priority species.

Compared to the version released in 2015, the 2025 plan reflects the development of a greater understanding of not only which species are in greatest need of conservation, but where in the state they live. This is one of the key contributions the UConn team made to the plan, identifying “Conservation Opportunity Areas.”

By identifying these areas, the plan can operate alongside local governments as they make decisions about planning and zoning, conservation groups that have their own maps, and highlight where education and engagement resources, like nature centers, could be added to better support conservation goals in these areas.

“It’s bringing a whole bunch of ecological and social data together to prioritize all those different actions and plan where on the landscape different partners can take action,” Bischoff says.

The UConn team is also developing a web-enabled plan with interactive resources for towns and community partners. This will include interactive maps and species profiles. It is scheduled to come out later this year.

“There are a lot of people involved, and there’s a lot of motivation and goodwill to do things well for conservation in the state,” Chadwick Rittenhouse says. “We’re really optimistic that good things will come for wildlife and fisheries in the state through this effort.”

This work relates to CAHNR’s Strategic Vision area focused on Fostering Sustainable Landscapes at the Urban-Rural Interface, and Advancing Adaptation and Resilience in a Changing Climate.

    Summary

Nigeria has implemented major reforms over the last 2 years which have improved macroeconomic stability and enhanced resilience. The country successfully tapped the Eurobond market and earned a credit rating upgrade, pointing to improved confidence. Growth has been steady but too low in per-capita terms, and inflation remains high. Gains have yet to benefit all Nigerians. Food insecurity and poverty have risen. Half-way through its term, the government is now focused on raising growth, while adapting to the spillovers from the changing global environment.

  • MIL-OSI USA: How has U.S. energy use changed since 1776?

    Source: US Energy Information Administration

    In-brief analysis

    July 2, 2025

In 2024, the United States consumed about 94 quadrillion British thermal units (quads) of energy, a 1% increase from 2023, according to our Monthly Energy Review. Fossil fuels—petroleum, natural gas, and coal—accounted for 82% of total U.S. energy consumption in 2024. Nonfossil fuel energy—from renewables and nuclear energy—accounted for the other 18%. Petroleum remained the most-consumed fuel in the United States, as it has been for the past 75 years, and nuclear energy consumption exceeded coal consumption for the first time ever.

When the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, wood, a renewable energy source, was the largest source of energy in the United States. Used for heating, cooking, and lighting, wood remained the largest U.S. energy source until the late 1800s, when coal consumption became more common. Wood energy is still consumed, mainly by industrial lumber and paper plants that burn excess wood waste to generate electricity.

Coal was the largest source of U.S. energy for about 65 years, from 1885 until 1950. Early uses of coal included many purposes that are no longer common, such as in stoves for home heating and in engines for trains and ships. Since the 1960s, nearly all coal consumed in the United States has been for electricity generation.

Petroleum has been the most-consumed source of energy in the United States since 1950. Petroleum products such as motor gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and propane are commonly used across all sectors of the U.S. economy, from transportation to industrial chemicals and plastics.

Natural gas is the second-largest source of U.S. energy consumption, as it has been most years since it surpassed coal in 1958. Natural gas was once considered a waste byproduct of crude oil production but now has become a common energy source for heating and electricity generation.

Early use of water to power grist, lumber, and other milling operations is not well quantified and not included in our data, but such mills were common throughout early U.S. history. The first industrial use of hydropower to generate electricity in the United States was to power lamps at a chair factory in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1880. The world’s first hydroelectric power plant to sell electricity to the public opened on the Fox River near Appleton, Wisconsin, in 1882.

Other forms of renewable energy did not become significant contributors to U.S. energy production until more recently. In 2016, biofuels—including the fuel ethanol mixed in motor gasoline—became the most-consumed U.S. renewable energy source.

Electricity generation from some zero-carbon sources, such as wind and solar, has increased rapidly in recent years, while generation from others, such as hydropower and nuclear, has remained relatively flat. In 2022, U.S. energy consumption from renewable sources surpassed nuclear energy for the first time since 1984, and in 2023, renewables surpassed coal for the first time since around the early 1880s. The United States now consumes more energy from wind and solar sources individually than from hydropower.

To compare different forms of energy, we convert to common units of heat, called British thermal units. Appendix A of our Monthly Energy Review has the conversion factors that we use for each energy source, and Appendix E explains how we convert noncombustible renewable energy sources.

BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) — China’s first batch of green methanol made from municipal waste was loaded onto a conventional diesel ship at Yangpu Port in south China’s island province of Hainan on Wednesday, marking a milestone in the domestic green shipping industry.

“Green” methanol is produced by China BlueChemical Ltd. /China BlueChem/, a company of China National Offshore Oil Corporation /CNOOC/. It is produced using biogas obtained from the fermentation of municipal kitchen waste, animal manure and other waste as a feedstock.

Using 200 tons of green methanol as fuel can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 325 tons, which is equivalent to the carbon sequestration effect of planting more than 19,000 trees.

This successful green methanol refuelling marks an important step in China’s shipping industry’s transition from traditional to green energy, said Wu Hongsheng, head of China BlueChem’s green methanol working group. -0-

  • MIL-OSI: Bitcoin Solaris Prepares for Launch: Mobile Mining App and Dual-Consensus Blockchain Gain Traction

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

TALLINN, Estonia, July 02, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Bitcoin Solaris (BTC-S), a next-generation hybrid blockchain project, has officially entered the final phase of its token presale, following over $6 million in contributions and 13,650+ users joining the movement. With only five weeks remaining, investors and crypto enthusiasts are preparing for what many are calling a major launch for 2025.

The BTC-S token is currently priced at $10, set to increase to $11 in the next stage, with a final launch price of $20. Early backers stand to benefit from an estimated 150%–200% potential ROI.

    What Makes Bitcoin Solaris Different?

Bitcoin Solaris combines two consensus models into one powerful chain. While most coins rely on a single consensus mechanism, BTC-S runs on both Proof-of-Work and Delegated Proof-of-Stake via its dual-layer blockchain. The result is unmatched speed and security working in tandem.

BTC-S isn’t just fast on paper. Its testnet already hit:

    • 10,000+ transactions per second.
    • Finality in just 2 seconds.
    • Energy savings over 99 percent compared to traditional PoW.
    • Smart contract infrastructure for full DeFi deployment.
    • Cross-chain bridge integration to enable real asset transfer.

This isn’t speculation. This is a chain already proving its performance.

    Built for the Mobile World

Bitcoin Solaris is going all-in on mobile users. With the upcoming Solaris Nova app, users will be able to mine on their smartphones without draining battery or bandwidth. The adaptive mining algorithm adjusts based on the device, and early data shows serious momentum.

    • Mining is possible without GPU rigs.
    • Teams and leaderboards add a gamified community element.
    • Mining power is tokenized for marketplace trading.
    • Income tracking is available inside the app dashboard.

Crypto Was Meant for Everyone BTC-S Finally Delivers That Promise

It’s no surprise that thousands have already used the Solaris Mining Calculator to estimate daily income potential.

    Influencers Are Sounding the Alarm

Crypto influencers are lighting up about Bitcoin Solaris, calling it a must-watch project in 2025. Several reviews are already out, each breaking down why BTC-S is causing serious waves.

    • Crypto Vlog highlighted the dual-consensus engine and how it bridges two generations of crypto.
    • Crypto League focused on the early user growth and momentum around mobile-first innovation.

And this is just the beginning. Discussions across social channels and Telegram are growing rapidly, with over 13,650 unique users joining the presale movement so far.

Presale Phase 10: Final Countdown Begins

With less than 5 weeks left in the presale, BTC-S is becoming one of the most talked-about launches of the year. Here’s what you need to know:

    • Current Price: $10
    • Next Phase: $11
    • Launch Price: $20
    • Bonus: 6 percent
    • Potential ROI: 150 to 200 percent

With over $6 million already raised, momentum is heating up. Users should know that wallets like Trust Wallet and Metamask are recommended for receiving tokens on launch day. They are not required for the presale but are ideal for post-launch delivery.

Final Thoughts: Don’t Regret This One

Bitcoin Solaris is doing what most projects only pretend to do. Faster, fairer, mobile-ready, and community-first. And this might be the second chance that rarely comes around.

  • MIL-OSI Africa: Namibia Gears Up for Energy Transformation – Deputy Prime Minister (PM) to Speak at African Energy Week (AEW) 2025

African Energy Week (AEW) 2025: Invest in African Energies welcomes Natangwe Paulus Ithete, Namibia’s newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industrialization, Mines and Energy, as a featured speaker at this year’s edition, taking place from September 29 to October 3 in Cape Town. Minister Ithete’s confirmation comes at a defining moment for Namibia’s energy sector, as the country accelerates large-scale investments in hydrocarbons, renewables and industrial infrastructure.

Appointed in March 2025 as part of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s new administration, Minister Ithete steps into his role amid a surge of high-impact activity across Namibia’s energy landscape. The country has captured international attention following a string of offshore oil discoveries by Shell, TotalEnergies and Galp, positioning Namibia as one of the world’s most promising new petroleum frontiers. Since Minister Ithete took office, momentum has only accelerated: TotalEnergies is expected to submit a development plan for its giant Venus discovery by July 2025, targeting a final investment decision next year for what could become Namibia’s first major offshore oil development. Galp confirmed a significant light oil find at its Mopane-3X well in February, while Rhino Resources struck oil at the Capricornus-1X well in April. Chevron is advancing plans to drill a new exploration well in the Walvis Basin, and Namibia is expanding licensing opportunities through its open-door system introduced last year. These developments are backed by government efforts to streamline fiscal terms, de-risk investment and solidify Namibia’s position as one of the most dynamic and closely watched frontiers in global oil and gas.

In parallel, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to scaling up renewable energy and positioning Namibia as a green hydrogen hub for the region. The $10-billion Hyphen Hydrogen Energy project, which aims to produce green ammonia for export from the Tsau //Khaeb National Park, is progressing steadily, backed by international partners including the EU and Germany. Namibia’s renewables strategy has also attracted global developers to solar and wind projects across the country, contributing to regional energy security and industrial expansion.

Minister Ithete has moved swiftly to align policy with these opportunities. In his first few months in office, he outlined the government’s intention to streamline regulatory processes, accelerate infrastructure development and strengthen fiscal and legal frameworks for investment. Speaking at the Namibia International Energy Conference in April, he emphasized the importance of building an enabling environment for energy companies, while ensuring that Namibians benefit meaningfully from the country’s natural resource wealth.

These priorities are reinforced by Namibia’s broader industrialization agenda. In May, Minister Ithete introduced a NAD 637.5 million budget to support industrial growth and renewable energy expansion. The funding targets the development of value-added industries, energy infrastructure and technical capacity across key sectors, forming part of a longer-term strategy to move beyond resource extraction and into domestic processing and export-led industrialization.

“Namibia’s transformation from a frontier market to a serious energy and industrial contender has been nothing short of remarkable,” states NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. “The appointment of Minister Natangwe Ithete reflects a strong political commitment to getting the fundamentals right – from regulatory clarity to infrastructure and local content. His leadership brings new energy to Namibia’s vision for growth, and we look forward to welcoming him at AEW 2025.”

With a growing number of bilateral and commercial partnerships underway – including recent cooperation talks with China on energy and industrial development – Namibia is rapidly emerging as one of Africa’s most dynamic energy investment destinations. The country is pursuing a holistic approach that leverages its oil and gas potential, renewable resources and strategic geographic location to become a regional supply hub and industrial center.

  • MIL-OSI: Lelantos Holdings, Inc. Qualifies for OTC Level 2 Quotes, Enhancing Transparency and Investor Access

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

TUCSON, Ariz., July 02, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — via IBN – Lelantos Holdings, Inc. (OTC PINK: LNTO) (“Lelantos” or the “Company”), is pleased to announce its qualification for OTC Level 2 quotations on the OTC Markets platform.

This milestone significantly improves visibility, transparency, and real-time market access for current and prospective investors.

OTC Level 2 provides a deeper view into market activity by offering real-time bid and ask prices from all market makers quoting the Company’s stock. Unlike Level 1 quotes, which only show the best bid and ask, Level 2 displays the full market depth, giving investors greater insight into trading dynamics and liquidity.

“Qualifying for Level 2 quotes is an important step forward in our capital markets strategy,” said Nathan Puente, CEO of Lelantos Holdings, Inc. “This enhanced transparency allows investors to make more informed decisions while also demonstrating our commitment to higher reporting and governance standards.”

In addition, the Company is pleased to announce that its application to OTCID has been formally approved, and Lelantos will transition to the Improved Disclosure Service beginning in July 2025. This service is part of OTC Markets Group’s continued efforts to raise disclosure standards and provide investors with better, more consistent company information.

By adopting the Improved Disclosure framework, Lelantos Holdings will further demonstrate its commitment to accountability, transparency, and investor engagement, while positioning itself for continued regulatory alignment and growth opportunities.

“Gaining approval for OTCID and preparing for the transition to the Improved Disclosure Service is yet another meaningful step,” added Joshua Weaver, COO of Lelantos Holdings, Inc. “We are dedicated to building credibility and investor trust by meeting higher benchmarks for disclosure and transparency.”

With Level 2 access now in place and its OTCID transition underway, Lelantos anticipates increased investor confidence, improved trading efficiency, and broader market participation—all of which support the Company’s long-term shareholder value objectives.

  • MIL-OSI: Half of Nord Security’s colocated servers use renewable energy: The company is striving for more

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

LONDON, July 02, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Nord Security, home to NordVPN, NordLayer, NordPass, NordLocker, NordStellar and Saily, has published its annual Impact Report, addressing all scopes of greenhouse gas emissions, social initiatives, key sustainability risks and impact. It reveals Nord Security’s efforts to advance its mission to protect life online and positively impact people, communities, and the environment.

“In this year’s Impact Report, we aim to show how we’ve helped individuals and businesses take back control of their digital lives. In 2024, we moved closer toward this goal by introducing powerful tools, launching new products, and rolling out key initiatives. Combined with our community engagement and educational efforts, we are reaching nearly every aspect of our users’ digital lives. Because for us, cybersecurity isn’t about protecting a single area – it’s about safeguarding users at every step of their digital journey,” says Nord Security co-founder Eimantas Sabaliauskas.

Below are some noteworthy highlights. The full report can be found here.

    Tackling indirect emissions

In 2024, Nord Security calculated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the second time, and expanded reporting to include key categories within Scope 3 covering indirect emissions across the company’s value chain. The total amount of the company’s market-based greenhouse gas emissions for 2024 was 23,014 tCO2e*.

While around 97% of the company’s total emissions are outside the company’s direct control in the value chain, the company now collects and analyzes GHG emissions data across the value chain, and aims to identify opportunities to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. Nord Security has initiated engagement with key suppliers to promote transparency and collaboration on emission reduction efforts.

According to Nord Security, this assessment will help to identify opportunities to reduce emissions from the company’s own operations and make better decisions about energy procurement and efficiency measures.

In 2024, Nord Security colocated servers in 37 data centers around the world all of which are low-power servers and offer sufficient computing power with low power consumption and are ideal for energy-saving operation. Thirty-two out of 37 data centers utilized renewable energy, making 50% of total colocated servers energy renewable.

Moreover, Nord Security continuously strives to mitigate the adverse effects the company’s day-to-day operations may have on the environment. At this point, around 73% of employees work in BREEAM-certified offices. Energy-saving measures, such as temperature control via blind automation as well as time and motion-based lighting, are implemented across all buildings. These measures also include recycling and time-adjusted ventilation modes.

    Supporting communities in-need

Product donations continue to be one of Nord Security’s mechanisms for supporting the nonprofit community. Over 2,600 accounts were donated to vulnerable groups and individuals online to help protect human rights, freedom of speech, and stand for inclusion and a safe digital world for all.

Nord Security continued to support the people of Ukraine, with a special focus on helping children and the elderly. Additionally, we also donated over €48K to NGOs working to help volunteers in Ukraine.

In keeping with our annual tradition of supporting NGOs and nonprofits in Lithuania, Nord Security collected donations for Niekieno Vaikai, an organization that improves the lives of vulnerable children, and Sidabrinė Linija, a non-profit that provides support to the elderly.

Assessing sustainability impacts, risks, and opportunities

Last year, Nord Security also went on a six-month quest in preparation for the new EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) rules by identifying and evaluating our key sustainability impacts, risks, and opportunities through a double materiality assessment.

Through the assessment Nord Security focused on two angles. The first one focused on what matters to the bottom line and identifies which environmental, social, or governance issues could affect a company’s revenues, costs, or reputation. The second considers Nord Security’s impact – how operations affect people and the environment.

Based on the outcomes of the assessment, Nord Security aims to better integrate sustainability risk assessment with enterprise risk framework already this year. Additionally, Nord Security is committed to continuous improvement, transparency, and aligning with the highest standards of sustainability.

    * To put this in perspective, 1 tCO2e is roughly equivalent to the emissions generated by driving a gasoline-powered passenger vehicle for around 4,000 kilometers or charging more than 66,000 smartphones.

    Compliance status

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.

To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.

Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email [email protected]

    Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:

    1. Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.

    2. Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

    • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
    • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
    • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
    • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
    • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
    • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

    1. Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
    2. Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over seven different coloring options.
    3. Animations – person with epilepsy can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
    4. Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
    5. Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
    6. Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
    7. Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

    Browser and assistive technology compatibility

We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).

    Notes, comments, and feedback

Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs. There may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to [email protected]

  • Sensex, Nifty end lower as investors turn cautious over Trump’s tariff deadline

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

The stock markets ended lower on Wednesday, as investor sentiment remained cautious due to US President Donald Trump’s firm stand on the upcoming tariff deadline.

The nervousness led to a risk-off mood among investors, pulling the benchmark indices lower.

After rising to an intra-day high of 83,935.29, the Sensex lost momentum and closed at 83,409.69, down 287.6 points or 0.34 per cent.

The Nifty also declined by 88.45 points or 0.35 per cent to end the day at 25,453.4.

“Mixed global cues, particularly ahead of the impending tariff deadline, are driving investor caution,” Vinod Nair of Geojit Investments Limited said.

“Market attention is gradually shifting to crucial Q1 earnings, which have high expectations,” he added.

Nair added that the underlying trends such as robust macroeconomic fundamentals and increased government expenditure continue to support market resilience.

Among the Sensex stocks, the biggest losers were Bajaj Finserv, L&T, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, and Bharat Electronics.

On the other hand, Tata Steel, Asian Paints, Ultratech Cement, Trent, Maruti, and Sun Pharma were among the top gainers.

Broader markets followed a similar trend. The Nifty Midcap100 index ended down by 0.14 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap100 index slipped 0.41 per cent.

Sector-wise, Nifty Metal, Consumer Durables, Auto, IT, Pharma, and Healthcare managed to close in the green.

However, Nifty Realty, Financial Services, Bank, Oil & Gas, and Media dragged the overall sentiment with losses.

The total market capitalisation of all listed companies on the NSE stood at Rs 5.35 trillion.

Meanwhile, the India VIX, which measures market volatility, eased slightly by 0.66 per cent to settle at 12.44 points — suggesting some cooling off in investor nervousness despite the day’s losses.

Gold traded in a narrow range as market awaits key US data releases. Comex Gold moved between $3327 – $3340, while MCX Gold traded between Rs 97,000 – Rs 97,400.

“The prices expected to remain in the broader range of Rs 96,500 – Rs 97,850 as participants price in potential dollar weakness and upcoming US data, including Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP), ADP non-farm employment, and unemployment figures,” Jateen Trivedi of LKP Securities stated.

SHENYANG, July 2 (Xinhua) — EVE Energy Co., a leading Chinese lithium-ion battery maker, on Monday launched its battery production base in Shenyang, capital of northeast China’s Liaoning Province, to develop batteries that can withstand extreme cold.

Based in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, EVE has invested a total of 10 billion yuan (approximately $1.4 billion) in the base. It will mainly produce low-temperature-resistant, high-density and reliable energy storage batteries, which will solve the industry’s critical problems of poor battery performance in cold regions.

At the same time, EVE Energy launched a research center for lithium batteries in cold climates. According to Li Wei, director of the center, the center will use EVE Energy Co.’s technology and regional partnerships to develop new materials and technologies that will significantly improve battery performance at low temperatures, including charge-discharge cycle efficiency.

Li Wei noted that the EVE Energy research center also aims to become a national-level energy innovation platform to support the transition of old industrial bases in the northeast to green energy. -0-
