  • MIL-OSI Russia: Tram tracks are being reconstructed on Turgenevskaya Square

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

At Turgenevskaya Square near the Chistye Prudy metro station, work has begun to connect the existing tram tracks with the new line being built on Akademika Sakharova Avenue and Masha Poryvayeva Street. The existing turnaround will be reconstructed with the installation of two turnouts.

Fences have been installed in this area, and pedestrian passages and approaches to the metro have been organized. For the duration of the works, the routes of trams No. 3, 39 and A have been changed in this area. Tram No. 3 temporarily runs from the Chertanovskaya metro station to Paveletsky Railway Station, then to the Proletarskaya metro station. Tram routes No. 39 and A have been merged into a single route No. 39 A from the Universitet metro station via Paveletsky Railway Station and Proletarskaya metro station to the MCD Kalitniki station.

Instead of trams, compensation bus No. 913 operates; its route was extended from Paveletsky railway station to Chistye Prudy metro station.

“Currently, the dismantling of the old rails of the turnaround circle and the road surface has been completed. A pit has been dug, and preparatory layers for the tram track are being laid on a monolithic foundation. As part of the necessary work to connect the tracks, two modern turnouts will also be installed, operating in automatic mode and allowing trams to change direction and move from the main track to the adjoining ones,” the press service of the Moscow Department of Capital Repairs reported.

The new double-track tram line running through the center will relieve Komsomolskaya Square and connect the eastern districts of the city with the southern ones. Its length is almost 2.1 kilometers, on one and a half kilometers of which contactless running technology will be used for the first time in Russia.

“Raised boarding platforms and modern bus stops with triplex glazing, comfortable benches and USB ports for charging gadgets will be installed along the tram tracks on Akademika Sakharova Avenue, Kalanchevskaya Street and Chistoprudny Boulevard,” the department’s press service noted.

It is also planned to improve the areas of Masha Poryvayeva, Kalanchevskaya, Krasnoprudnaya streets adjacent to the new line, as well as Komsomolskaya Square, Academician Sakharov Avenue, Chistoprudny and Sretensky Boulevards.

Construction of a tram line from Komsomolskaya Square to Chistye Prudy metro station has begun

  • MIL-OSI Russia: ‘Active Citizens’ to Choose Name for Baby Western Lowland Gorilla

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

The Active Citizen project has begun vote,The participants will choose a name for the new inhabitant of the Moscow Zoo – a baby western lowland gorilla listed in the Red Book.

The little male was born in early February. His parents, a pair of gorillas Kira and Vizuri, are taking care of him with great care. Although the female holds the baby in her arms all the time, she sometimes allows other family members to come up and gently pet him. Visitors to the Moscow Zoo can see the baby in the Primates pavilion.

In the wild, these animals live in mangrove thickets, mountainous and tropical forests of Equatorial Africa. Therefore, experts have proposed options that reflect the connection of this species of primates with their homeland. Four of the five names begin with the letter K – this is a kind of tribute to mother Kira.

So, the baby can be called Quito. This is a city in Angola, where a stable population of western lowland gorillas still exists. Another name – Kuango – refers to the name of a river in the Congo basin. This is one of the regions where the primates live.

A small male can also be named Kwanzaa. In African American culture, this is the name of the holiday honoring the first fruits of the harvest. Another option is Kijani. In Swahili, this means “green,” which is associated with nature, growth, and fertility. Zuberi translates as “strong” or “mighty.” This name is usually given to boys.

The voting was prepared by the capital Department of Culture and the project “Active Citizen”Its users have already chosen names for many animals, including the Malayan bears Masha, Luchik and Zvezdochka, the alpaca Zephyr, the hyena Akela, the panda Katyusha and the tiger Amur.

Project “Active Citizen” has been operating since 2014. During this time, more than seven million people have joined it, and more than seven thousand votes have been held. Every month, 30–40 decisions made by Muscovites are implemented in the city. The project is being developed by the capital Department of Information Technology and the State Institution “New Management Technologies”.

The creation, development and operation of the e-government infrastructure, including the provision of mass socially significant, as well as other services in electronic form, correspond to the objectives of the national project “Data Economy” and the Moscow regional project “Digital Public Administration”.

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University – Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University –

Students of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport presented an exhibition of works dedicated to the heroic deeds of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition is located in the research building of Technopolis Polytech.

The exhibition became part of the university events dedicated to the anniversary of the Victory. Students studying in the direction of “Technology of artistic processing of materials”, under the guidance of teachers, prepared decorative items that perpetuate the memory of the Great Victory. Each detail and symbol is intended to remind us of the price that our ancestors paid for peace and the need to preserve the historical truth.

My work is called “Monolith”, it tells about the courage and fortitude of Soviet soldiers, thanks to whom, as it seems to me, the victory was achieved. During the work, the thought of the feat of our people did not leave me. My classmates also approached the task seriously. The preparation of the exhibition touched upon an important topic for each of us, – shared 3rd year student of TKhOM Alexander Narseyev.

The exhibition features various works: from the statuette “Motherland” to a letter-crane assembled from copper plates. A cast crane and a small St. Isaac’s Cathedral with a vegetable garden on the square where Leningrad residents grew vegetables are also on display. In 1942, vegetable gardens appeared on vacant lots, in gardens, parks, squares, on the banks of rivers and canals. All works have their own history, which is close to everyone.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Kirill Kosarev, a graduate of the Geological and Geophysical Faculty of NSU, became a finalist in the project “Career in OFS”

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Novosibirsk State University – Novosibirsk State University –

In November 2024, the oilfield services company OFS Technologies launched the Career in OFS project (kareraofs.rf) for the second time — a program to find promising and talented students and graduates who want to start a career in the oil and gas industry. More than 80 educational institutions in Russia were invited to participate. In total, more than 450 people took part in the project.

The participants passed the selection tests, following which the best were invited to the final in-person stage in Tyumen, at the site of the company “OFS Technologies”. Among the 47 most promising participants was a graduate Faculty of Geology and Geophysics Novosibirsk State University – Kirill Kosarev.

    — I have been participating in such projects all year. This is a great way to start a career in a large oilfield services company when you are just graduating from university, you have no experience yet, but you have knowledge and a desire to develop. In addition, this is an opportunity to make useful contacts, — Kirill Kosarev said about the reasons for participating in the project.

As part of the final stage, the participants visited the Remote Drilling Support Center and the Tyumen Oilfield Equipment Plant, a unique Russian manufacturer of submersible cable for oil wells. The contestants demonstrated their skills in a technical team task and also passed individual interviews with representatives of business areas and the HR department. In addition, the finalists passed an assessment, where they demonstrated the level of their technical knowledge acquired during their training.

    — The selection of finalists took place through an online test and a video business card. But the final was much more interesting and difficult. A team challenge awaited us: we built structures from scrap materials in several stages. First, there was a technical task: assembly according to drawings, then interviews. The tasks were designed for those who do not yet have much production experience, so the hardest thing was to cope with the excitement, — Kirill shared.

Following the results of the competition, the winners received job offers at the facilities of the OFS Technologies company.

    — When the selection stage was taking place, I was calm and confident: I already have good achievements in the oil and gas sector. I felt that I did well with the test and the answers in the video business card, — Kirill summed up.

We congratulate Kirill and all the finalists on their excellent results and wish them further professional growth, interesting projects and career victories!

  • MIL-OSI Russia: MIR is now in Iran – the geography of the Russian payment system cards has expanded

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

    Source: Mainfin Bank –

How does the integration of payment systems work?

The integration of the MIR payment system from the Russian Federation and Shetab from Iran has been ongoing in recent years – within the framework of an agreement signed by the heads of the central banks of the states. The interaction takes place in three stages:

In the summer of 2024, Shetab cardholders were given the opportunity to withdraw money from self-service terminals in Russia; now Russians can make purchases at cards MIR in Iran, but in a limited number of locations – where Spaparak terminals are installed; in the near future, Iranians will also be able to pay for purchases with their cards in the Russian Federation.

Acceptance of Russian cards in Iran is available for MIR plastic with contactless payment function – transactions via NFC (payment by smartphone) also work. For small purchases, entering a PIN code is not required.

In which other countries can Russians pay with MIR cards?

The geography of MIR cards has been steadily expanding since the departure of key payment systems from Russia – unconditional acceptance of plastic is available in Belarus, Abkhazia, Ossetia, and Cuba (they are planning to issue MIR cards on the island). Plastic is accepted with restrictions in a number of CIS countries, as well as in popular destinations among Russian tourists, including Vietnam, Laos, and the Maldives.

“Given the difficult geopolitical situation, tourists traveling abroad are advised to stock up on cash and purchase “All Inclusive” tours in order to protect themselves as much as possible from possible financial problems with Russian cards,” the expert noted.

At the same time, in 2024, due to the risk of secondary sanctions, several countries refused to work with the NPS “MIR”, including Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Uzbekistan and Turkey. Negotiations on the possible integration of payment systems are ongoing with India, Indonesia, Mexico, Egypt and Thailand.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: “Lepota Day” at the Polytechnic: a family holiday that unites everyone

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University – Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University –

On Saturday, May 17, the Polytechnic Park was a celebration: excursions, master classes, car and motorcycle rides, songs, dances, a fashion show. All this and much more was included in the program of the family festival “Lepota Day”, which has become traditional for our university thanks to successful start last year.

The celebration for the Polytechnic University employees, their families and friends was organized by various departments of the university. They prepared several entertainment zones related to the main areas of “Lepota” – a project that has been implemented at the Polytechnic University for several years and affects various aspects of the life of the university community. These are health, sports, cultural development, care for the environment, emotional well-being, career and more.

We are glad that the family festival “Lepota Day” is already becoming a tradition and attracts the attention of not only guests, but also participants: this year, several initiative units, knowing about the successful experience of last year, themselves asked to include them in the program. Our festival is becoming larger and more diverse, everyone will find something to their liking. I am sure that such a warm family event not only unites polytechnics and introduces their children to the best university from the inside, but also performs the most important function of forming the corporate culture and ecosystem of “Lepota”, – emphasized the head of the SPbPU Public Relations Department Marianna Dyakova.

During the celebration, everyone was able to choose an activity to their liking. Participants enthusiastically painted the Polytechnic logo – a large letter “P”: they left warm wishes, confessed their love for their native university, and drew everything that came to mind.

Together with the guides of the SPbPU History Museum, the university staff and guests learned about the students’ exploits during the Great Patriotic War and how the university worked during the difficult period. The lives of the polytechnic students during the war years were also the subject of a reconstruction organized by the military-historical club “Our Polytechnic”. The activists taught those who wanted to learn archery, sword handling, and historical dancing.

Members of the role-playing club “Engineering Alliance” organized a medieval knight’s tournament. The sports and technical sports club “Extreme” demonstrated retro cars that are rarely seen on the streets. Moreover, you could ride them!

Festival participants learned about chemical processes at a show from the student community “KhimTim”, touched the technologies of the future and controlled robots from the “Omnivorous” team.

My daughter Alexandra really enjoyed the chemical show, and I enjoyed playing table tennis. Wonderful weather, a great holiday, a beautiful park of the Polytechnic University! We attend the family festival every year, and I can say that it has already become our tradition. The organizers are great, we had a lot of fun and positive impressions, — shared the scientific secretary of SPbPU Dmitry Karpov.

Nine-year-old Arina and five-year-old Katya, daughters of the director of the Higher School of Software Engineering Pavel Drobintsev, especially enjoyed studying 3D modeling.

Many visitors were attracted by the master class on creating a house for squirrels. Face painting was also very popular. The team of the psychological support center “Tochka Opory” held a class where participants sculpted from plasticine.

We came to the celebration with the whole family: my wife Tatyana, four-year-old daughter Arina and eight-year-old son Artem. Despite being busy and having a busy work schedule, we wanted to relax and spend the weekend together. The children took part in the chemistry show with great pleasure, built a house for a squirrel and made things out of plasticine. We had a great time, learned something new and talked to friends and colleagues in an informal setting, – said Vyacheslav Olshevsky, Director of the SPbPU Student City.

The master classes were also very much enjoyed by ten-year-old Sasha and eight-year-old Alena. They came to the party together with their grandmother Elena Druzhinina, a 1985 Polytechnic graduate.

I studied technical cybernetics, my husband graduated from the mechanical engineering department, and my daughter is also a graduate of the mechanical engineering department. You could say that the Polytechnic is our destiny! We had very friendly groups, and even formed several married couples. Every year we get together with classmates, attend various university events. I hope that my grandchildren will also become Polytechnicians, Sasha clearly has technical abilities, – shared Elena Druzhinina.

The event featured a fashion show, where the main stars were the pets of the Polytechnic University employees. The owners dressed their pets in costumes, giving everyone an unforgettable experience. Public relations specialist Alina Melnikova decorated her dog Iriska with a multi-colored hat, which suited her amazingly.

Iriska did a great job as a photo model today. She stood on the path, everyone was taking pictures of her and petting her, Alina Melnikova said.

Lead programmer of the IT Department Artem Prokofiev came to the festival with a Spitz named Loki: Loki has many costumes, we chose the most beautiful one for the show. My dog is very demanding and cunning by nature. If he doesn’t like something, it immediately becomes noticeable.

Through an exciting game and casual conversation, the Center for Career Guidance and Pre-University Training helped polytechnic students and their friends determine their interests, find a suitable area for development, and draw up a plan for mastering a specialty.

For fans of active recreation, the skateboarding community organized a master class on basic tricks, a relay race with prizes, and a mass race around the site. There was also a master class dedicated to the technique of Nordic walking.

Popular songs of the Russian stage were performed by the participants of the project “Star of Polytechnic”. This is an annual competition that gives students the opportunity to gain fame and develop themselves creatively. The finalists and participants of the project become welcome guests at events of various levels. In the Polytechnic Park, they delighted guests with modern compositions and hits of the Soviet era.

I love the Polytechnic University and the people who work here. I have worked at the Polytechnic all my life, my eldest son is a polytechnician. I came to the festival with my youngest son Egor. He enjoyed playing table tennis, he liked the retro cars. The podium show was great! I wish further development to the family festival “Lepota Den”, this is a wonderful tradition, – shared the director of the Department of Economics and Finance Elena Vinogradova.

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: MHRA highlights “remarkable” progress and launches real-world data consultation on International Clinical Trials Day

Source: United Kingdom – Executive Government & Departments

    Press release

MHRA highlights “remarkable” progress and launches real-world data consultation on International Clinical Trials Day

“…the MHRA is once again taking a global lead” says Lord O’Shaughnessy

Major progress has been made in delivering a more efficient and adaptable regulatory framework for clinical trials, the Chief Executive of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has reflected on International Clinical Trials Day.

New regulations – which represent the most significant update to the UK clinical trials landscape in 20 years – are designed to put participants firmly at the centre of how trials are run, while supporting faster, more streamlined approvals, making it easier to test new treatments in the UK.

Lawrence Tallon, MHRA Chief Executive said:

I’ve experienced first-hand the life-changing impact clinical research can have on patients and their families. This, combined with the benefits it brings to the economy, is why it’s so important we ensure the UK is one the most attractive places in the world to conduct trials.

The UK is already a research powerhouse driven by innovation, with one in eight trials in the UK testing treatments in humans for the first time.

But we want to go further. Last month, we began implementing the most significant update to UK clinical trials regulation in over two decades. These reforms will address the research sector’s need for a more risk-proportionate regulatory framework for clinical trials and will help get cutting-edge new treatments to the NHS as quickly as possible.

Lord O’Shaughnessy, former health minister, senior partner at Newmarket Strategy and author of the landmark report into the UK commercial clinical trials landscape said:

The progress the MHRA has made in the two years since I published my review has been remarkable. Despite its global reputation for excellence, by 2023 trial approval set up times had slipped badly.

The MHRA is now delivering consistently good approval times while introducing further reforms to add speed and flexibility to the process.

With a clear mandate from the Prime Minister to reduce trial set up times to 150 days – which would be genuinely world-leading – the MHRA is once again taking a global lead.

Professor Sir Martin Landray, Chief Executive of Protas, said:

I am delighted with the progress the MHRA has made to deliver an efficient and coordinated regulatory process for clinical trials.

Innovation in clinical trials is much needed if we are to find better ways to prevent and treat the growing burden of common and life-threatening diseases. The UK can be in pole position to lead the charge, and regulatory enlightenment is a key part of this journey.

Developed in partnership with the Health Research Authority (HRA), and shaped by feedback from patients, researchers, doctors, and industry, the new regulations will take full effect from April 2026, following the 12-month implementation period.

To ensure these substantial reforms are phased in effectively, the MHRA and Health Research Authority (HRA) will be producing updated guidance. Already, the MHRA and HRA have launched a pilot Inclusion and Diversity Plan. Shaped by input from over 300 researchers, it offers practical guidance to help sponsors design more representative studies, to ensure that trials represent the populations they are designed to treat.

In the meantime, the MHRA has embedded improvements in processing clinical trial applications into standard working practice, with 100% of clinical trials and investigations applications having been handled within statutory timescales since September 2023.

Launch of consultation on use of real-world data

Beginning on International Clinical Trials Day, the MHRA is launching a six-week consultation on the use of real-world data for external control arms of clinical trials, which has the potential to help accelerate the approval of treatments, especially in cases when randomised controlled trials may not be ethical or feasible. It is another example of the work the MHRA is doing to support the set-up of innovative trials.

Real-world data refers to information that is collected from patients during the course of their normal clinical care. Data can include electronic health records (EHR), disease and patient registries, and patient reported outcomes (PRO) data, alongside data from other sources. Once this data is analysed, the information is referred to as real-world evidence (RWE).

The new guidance is for those planning a clinical trial which may include a real-world data external control arm with the intention of using the trial to support a regulatory decision on a medical product. This means that a control arm of the study would use data from patients not part of a specific clinical trial.

To access the guideline and participate in the consultation, please visit the MHRA website.

    Notes to editors

    • Today (20 May 2025) is International Clinical Trials Day, which recognises the day the first randomized clinical trial began in 1747. As part of celebrations, the MHRA is proud to support the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in its #BePartofResearch campaign

    • The Lord O’Shaughnessy review into UK commercial clinical trials made 27 recommendations where action should be taken by the government and delivery partners, including the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), to address key challenges and transform the commercial clinical trials environment. The Government has committed to implementing his recommendations in full.

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: Regional conference raises awareness of hoarding disorder

    Source: City of Wolverhampton

Professionals from a range of organisations across the Black Country came together to develop their knowledge and skills in relation to hoarding behaviours, share best practice and hear from people who exhibit hoarding behaviours and their experiences.

Ian Porter, a Psychologist and Coordinator of the Northwest Hoarders Helping Hoarders Network, led the day, discussing what hoarding is and isn’t, the factors that professionals face when working with people with hoarding behaviours, and support groups and why they are needed.

The Sandwell Hoarding Improvement Programme provided an overview of its work and the conference also included workshops that focus on mental health, stigma and trauma, there was a question and answer session with people with lived experience and an extract from ‘Landfill of Memories’, an autobiographical performance about hoarding performed by Susana Amato.

Councillor Paula Brookfield, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults, said: “A hoarding disorder is where someone acquires an excessive number of items, often of little or no monetary value, and stores them in a chaotic manner, usually leading to unmanageable amounts of clutter.

“It can be a significant problem if this clutter interferes with everyday living – for example, the person is unable to use or access their kitchen, bathroom or other rooms in their house – or if the clutter is causing significant distress or negatively affecting the quality of life of the person or their family.

“Across the Black Country, we are committed to working closely together as organisations and with people who have experienced hoarding behaviours to develop suitable support services.

“We want to listen to and hear the voices of people with experience of hoarding so that we can craft solutions that work, and do not further traumatise or stigmatise people.”

The NHS and Mind websites have information and advice to help people recognise hoarding behaviours and how to get support. Visit Hoarding disorder or Mind – hoarding. Alternatively, people are encouraged to speak to their GP.

Anyone with concerns about an adult should call Adult Social Care on 01902 551199 or 01902 552999 out of hours. In an emergency, dial 999.

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: Council welcomes new campaign to promote physical activity

    Source: City of Wolverhampton

Move Together is designed to inspire residents to embrace movement as part of their daily lives.

It was launched by Active Black Country and the 4 Black Country councils earlier this month, and seeks to break down the barriers to activity, empowering every resident to become more physically active.

It will also raise awareness of the spaces and places where people can move more and be active and showcase the wealth of accessible activity opportunities across the region.

Sport England’s Active Lives Survey identifies the Black Country as the most inactive Active Partnership area within England. Latest data shows that 34.6% of adults were classed as inactive – a slight fall in inactivity rates over the last 12 months, but still a long way behind the national average of 25.1%.

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, who was named Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community at the council’s AGM last Wednesday, said: “I warmly welcome the new Move Together campaign and, as a council, we are delighted to be part of its efforts to help people in Wolverhampton and across the Black Country increase their physical activity levels.

“Regular physical activity can help people improve their heart health, build strong bones and muscles, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and cut the risk of developing some health conditions.

“This campaign is all about how everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background, can become more physically active, whether that is at their local WV Active leisure centre or by joining one of the hundreds of activities, many of them free, taking place across the region – because, from walking cricket to wrestling and kabaddi, there’s bound to be something for all of us.

“Getting people active also forms a key part of Health and Wellbeing Together’s Physical Activity Strategy, with Wolverhampton’s health and wellbeing board determined to create a city where everyone can be physically active every day.”

The campaign is fronted by Paralympic legend Ellie Simmonds MBE who said: “Being active has always been such an important part of my life. It hasn’t just been for my physical health, but for my confidence, mental health and happiness.

“The best thing is that you don’t even have to be an athlete to feel the benefits – or have ever done sports. Whether it’s a walk with friends, dancing in your living room, or joining a local group, moving and being active can make a massive difference.

“That’s why I’m so proud to support the Move Together campaign – because everyone deserves the chance to feel the joy and freedom that being active can bring.”

Active Black Country’s Chief Executive Ian Carey added: “Together with our strategic partners, we have developed an inspiring campaign that can motivate people from different backgrounds to move more and be physically active so they can enjoy the multiple health and wellbeing benefits that an active lifestyle provides.

“This campaign will showcase the breadth and diversity of activity opportunities on everyone’s doorsteps and show just how accessible they are, empowering Black Country residents to embrace movement as part of their daily lives.

“Thanks to Sport England for their ongoing financial support, the Move Together campaign champions the ‘Uniting the Movement’ strategy that aims to provide everyone in England – regardless of postcode, background or bank balance – the opportunity to get active.”

Wildlife and marine conservationists warn of potential wildlife disturbance offences in response to Lyme Regis’ Dolphin visitor

In response to the arrival of a solitary dolphin in Lyme Regis and observation of potential marine wildlife disturbances, MMO and Dorset Wildlife Trust are issuing guidance under the banner of Operation Seabird.

    Dolphin at Lyme Regis

A solitary bottlenose dolphin has become a frequent visitor to the area just outside Lyme Regis harbour, sparking excitement from both residents and visitors. However, marine wildlife bodies and conservation authorities are issuing guidance following direct observation, reports, and video of people intentionally approaching the animal too closely.

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) and Dorset Wildlife Trust remind everyone that dolphins, whales and porpoises are protected by law. It is an offence to intentionally approach or recklessly disturb these animals and could result in up to six months in prison and/or an unlimited fine.

Although seeing dolphins in the wild can be a special experience, irresponsible behaviour, particularly from those swimming, paddleboarding, jet-skiing or operating watercraft, can place the animal, or yourself at risk.

Jess Churchill-Bisset, Head of Marine Conservation (wildlife), said:

The arrival of a dolphin in a small coastal community like Lyme Regis can be a source of wonder and pride. But it’s vital to remember that dolphins are vulnerable and unpredictable wild animals protected by law. We all have a responsibility to respect their space, keep a safe distance, and understand how our actions can unintentionally cause harm or even constitute a criminal offence. By giving these animals space, observing them from a distance and acting responsibly we help ensure their health and survival, so they remain a part of our coast now and for generations to come.

If you encounter a Dolphin when you’re on the water, you should:

    • Slow down and keep speed below six knots (no-wake speed).
    • Stay at least 100 metres away and slowly move further away if you notice signs of disturbance.
    • Keep your distance if there are already more than two boats or watercraft in the vicinity.
    • Never encircle or chase animals.
    • Never try to swim with, touch or feed them.

Sometimes dolphins may choose to approach you, in this situation you should maintain a steady speed and direction and let the animals leave when they choose.

If you see a dolphin being disturbed, you can:

Sarah Hodgson from Dorset Wildlife Trust, said:

Disturbance can be a big problem for wildlife from seabirds to seals and dolphins.  It can affect their natural behaviour, interfering with foraging, disturbing crucial resting time, causing stress and may result in injuries or worse. That’s why it’s so important to follow the Marine and Coastal Wildlife Code, so you can enjoy your time on the water without having a detrimental impact on our precious marine wildlife.

    Operation Seabird

This guidance comes under the banner of Operation Seabird #OpsSeabird – a national initiative which aims to tackle marine coastal wildlife crime, wildlife disturbance, anti-social behaviour and promote responsible wildlife watching. Associates of the program engage and educate the public and local stakeholders about how to enjoy our coastal habitats while minimising negative impacts on our marine wildlife.

If you suspect a wildlife crime in action, call 999, again quoting ‘Operation Seabird’.

    The police may ask you:

    • What happened
    • Where the incident happened, for example a local landmark, What 3 Words or National Grid Reference
    • When the incident happened, including the date and time
    • Who was involved, for example, how many people, what they wore and if they had dogs or equipment
    • The make, colour and registration numbers of any vehicles or boats
    • if you took any photographs or videos – only take these if it is safe

MMO led Community Workshop in Lyme Regis – 22 May, 5pm – 7pm.

‘Protecting Lyme Regis’ Dolphin visitor and avoid wildlife offences’

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is inviting residents, water users and business owners to a free community workshop tackling the issue of marine wildlife disturbance in Lyme Regis.

With a solitary bottlenose dolphin now a regular visitor to the harbour area, join us to learn how we can all help protect this special animal, stay within the law, and ensure everyone can enjoy the coast responsibly and safely.

Find out what disturbance looks like, what the law says, and how to avoid unintentionally causing harm — or committing an offence.

Let’s work together to keep Lyme Regis a safe and welcoming place for wildlife and people alike.

    Press release

Director disqualified for 11 years after dishonestly securing Covid loan for Lincoln plumbing and heating company

Carl Barnes, the director of Central Plumbing & Heating Lincoln Ltd, made false statements about the company’s turnover to secure a Bounce Back loan

    • Carl Barnes applied for a Bounce Back loan of £47,500 for Central Plumbing & Heating Lincoln Ltd.

    • He declared the company had a turnover of £340,000 when in reality it was nothing.

    • Barnes has been banned as a company director for 11 years. The Secretary of State accepted a voluntary disqualification undertaking offered by him.

The director of a plumbing and heating company has been banned for 11 years after overstating his company’s turnover by hundreds of thousands of pounds to secure a Covid Bounce Back loan.

Carl Barnes, of Ollerton Road, Retford, was the director of Central Plumbing & Heating Lincoln Ltd, which was incorporated in April 2016.

The company, based on Wavell Drive in Lincoln, made a small profit in its first year of trading, but dormant accounts were filed by Barnes in the following years.

In August 2020, the 45-year-old falsely claimed the company had a turnover of £340,000 for 2019, despite the actual turnover being £0.

He received a Covid Bounce Back loan for the company of £47,500 which it was not entitled to.

Barnes was disqualified as a director for 11 years on 17 April 2025, with the ban beginning on 8 May 2025.

Kevin Read, Chief Investigator at the Insolvency Service, said:

Carl Barnes exploited the Bounce Back Loan Scheme by providing false information about his company’s turnover.

His dishonesty has resulted in this significant director disqualification, which prevents him from forming or managing a company for more than a decade.

The Insolvency Service will continue to investigate those who abused this scheme – designed to help small businesses during the pandemic – and bring them to justice.

Central Plumbing & Heating Lincoln Ltd went into liquidation in October 2022.

The disqualification order prevents Barnes from being involved in the promotion, formation or management of a company, without the permission of the court.

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: Hop on Countesswells Primary’s BikeBus!

Source: Scotland – City of Aberdeen

The Bike Bus, a health and wellbeing initiative has been launched at Countesswells primary school, bringing a new and exciting way for children and families to travel to school.

The Bike Bus originated from the “Wheely Wednesday” activity at the school, where children were encouraged to bring their bikes, scooters, and roller blades to school for a fun and active session in the playground.

Aberdeen City Council Education and Children’s Services Committee convener Councillor Martin Greig said: “This is a fantastic way to encourage pupils and families to travel to school together. The bikebus brings people together in a safe and active form of green transport. It is a real benefit for the pupils and community of Countesswells.”

Inspired by the success of “Wheely Wednesday,” the Bike Bus was introduced to further promote physical activity and community engagement, as well as helping many children learn to ride a bike.

The initiative involves a group of children and parents cycling together to school, creating a safe and visible presence on the roads.

Principal teacher at Countesswells school, Jack McMullan said: “Mental and physical health and wellbeing is a top priority and key aspect of our role as educators. Children experiencing challenging mental health has increased and the bike bus is an example of one of the interventions we can put in place to support our learners.

“Physical health initiatives are also vital in ensuring our learners develop positive activity habits and physical literacy. Health and Wellbeing is as important a part of the curriculum as literacy and numeracy.”

The Bike Bus has already seen great success, with participation doubling from 30 to 60 children in just two weeks. The initiative has also received positive feedback from parents and the community, with many families joining in for quality time together during the daily routine of traveling to school.

Looking ahead, the Bike Bus aims to expand its reach and include more children without requiring adult supervision. Plans are also in place to set up a “wheels mechanics” programme at the school, where children can learn to fix their bikes and scooters.

  • MIL-OSI United Kingdom: Celebrations as East Park Academy remains Outstanding

    Source: City of Wolverhampton

Inspectors visited last month and, in their report published recently, found an ‘inclusive school’ which has ‘high ambitions for everyone’. Pupils are supported to do their best and to feel happy, secure and successful.

Pupils ‘make strong progress with their learning and achieve very well’, with the school giving pupils a ‘healthy outlook on education and life’ and its 8 values being woven into school life and building pupils’ feelings of self worth.

Staff also help pupils to see the merit of daily acts of kindness, with pupils demonstrating ‘positive and respectful behaviour’.

East Park ‘benefits from high quality leadership’ which is ‘well informed about what it does well and where to target further attention’.

Phonics teaching is ‘delivered extremely well’, with staff demonstrating ‘strong subject knowledge that is refreshed regularly with additional training’. The school is quick to act, with success, if pupils need help to catch up.

Across the curriculum, the school has identified key subject knowledge and set this out in logical sequences, which helps pupils to connect new knowledge with earlier learning.

It also uses ‘effective methods’ to promote reading and other learning at home, and has a ‘constructive partnership with parents and carers’. Consequently, pupils ‘are well prepared for secondary school’.

Pupils with special educational needs or disabilities receive ‘carefully tailored support’, with staff ensuring ‘all pupils access an ambitious curriculum that enables them to make strong progress’.

The school is described as ‘a safe place where staff put children’s safety and interests first’, with many before and after school clubs offering pupils a wide range of different activities, enhancing classroom learning and introducing pupils to new things.

Meanwhile, the Manor Multi Academy Trust has ‘highly effective and robust systems’ for gathering and checking information about the school’s work. Senior leaders have thought carefully about the decisions they make, including the professional development of staff. Staff ‘value this and feel supported and guided in their work’.

Inspectors concluded that East Park Academy has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at its last inspection in 2019, which saw the school rated Outstanding.

Associate Headteacher Alan Rogers said: “We are proud to serve this community and deeply proud of everything reflected in the report.

“It stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the staff, families and children of East Park. We are excited to lead the school into its next chapter and to contribute to the continued momentum and progress in education across Wolverhampton.”

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “This is an outstanding report which demonstrates the great lengths that East Park Academy goes to in order to give its pupils an excellent and enjoyable education. I would like to congratulate everyone at the school on their continuing success.”

Data shows that 97% of schools in Wolverhampton are currently rated either Good or Outstanding by Ofsted, the highest ever.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: In Zamoskvorechye, more than 170 houses have been overhauled in 10 years

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

Over the 10 years of implementing the capital repair program for the housing stock, specialists from the Moscow city services complex have put 172 buildings in the historical district of Zamoskvorechye in order. Here you can find both buildings from the early 20th century and modern typical buildings.

    House on Malaya Pionerskaya Street

In 2023, major repairs were carried out in house 21, building 1 on Malaya Pionerskaya Street. This four-story L-shaped building was built in 1914 according to the design of architect Andrei Khomko, who built many apartment buildings in the capital. Its main façade is flanked by two trapezoid bay windows, which end with balconies, and is highlighted by decorative pediments and pilasters. The windows are decorated with window sills and keystones, and the first floor is decorated with rustication. The courtyard façade is decorated with a risalit with an arched end.

During the major repairs, specialists restored the facade. They cleared and repaired the plaster layer, locally repaired the brickwork, sealed the seams and applied antifungal protection. Then they put the rustication in order, restored the keystones, pilasters and panels and returned the building to its historical beige color.

In addition, the craftsmen updated the basement, drainpipes, repaired the entrance groups and installed modern double-glazed windows in the entrances. In conclusion, the specialists replaced the risers of the drainage, cold water supply and central heating.

    House on Novokuznetskaya street

In the same year, a six-story building at 4/12 Novokuznetskaya Street, Building 2, was put in order in Zamoskvorechye. The building was constructed in 1938 according to the design of architect Zinovy Rosenfeld in the style of Soviet neoclassicism. Its facades are distinguished by multi-component plasticity. The main one is highlighted horizontally by interfloor cornices, and the verticals of the loggias are united by niches and decorated with pilasters. The balcony slabs are supported by brackets. The facades of the retail premises on the first floor are decorated with stained glass and pilasters. A crowning cornice is located along the perimeter of the building.

Before the start of the major repairs, specialists selected modern domestic materials and technologies. At the first stage, they cleared the facade of old paint and dirt, knocked off peeling parts of the plaster layer and put in order the places of destruction, weathered seams and brickwork. Then they treated wet places with antifungal and antiseptic compounds, cleaned and carefully restored decorative elements, repaired interfloor belts, dentils, pilasters and brackets.

The walls and architectural elements were painted in historical colors of “ivory” and “beige chiffon”. In conclusion, specialists plastered the base of the house, replaced the drainpipes, repaired the entrance groups, balconies and loggias.

    House on Bolshaya Tatarskaya

This year, a residential building constructed in the Soviet neoclassical style and located at 36 Bolshaya Tatarskaya Street will be transformed. The six-story building was erected in 1939 according to an individual project. Its facades are distinguished by complex plasticity and decorated with decorative elements. The main ones are highlighted by rustication at the level of the first and second floors and caissons at the level of the third to sixth. The second and third floors are separated by a wide belt with balconies decorated with decorative niches and brackets. The balconies above are distinguished by a semicircular shape. The central entrance group is decorated with columns, and the two side ones – with bas-relief, arched stepped platbands and capitals. Window openings, including those of the stairwell and elevator units, are framed with decorative platbands. On the courtyard facades there are double two-wing and three-wing windows, as well as rectangular balconies. The building is completed with a crowning cornice with decorative elements.

To restore the house, an individual project was developed, modern technologies and domestic materials were selected. A new electrical network has already been installed at the site and the roof has been put in order: the roof covering on the pitched roof has been replaced, the lathing has been repaired, all wooden structures have been treated with a fire-retardant composition and the optimal temperature and humidity conditions have been established using mineral wool slabs. Now the craftsmen are repairing the entrances: they are putting the floor in order, plastering and painting the walls, updating the geometry of the steps and handrails.

Next, specialists will clean and wash the facade. Wet areas will be treated with antifungal compounds, and all decorative elements will be put in order. Then the building will be plastered and painted in historical shades: the color “gray flannel” for the rusticated lower part and “beige natural rice” for the upper floors, entrance portals, panels and other elements. In addition, the craftsmen will put the balconies in order, replace the windows and tiles in the entrances and renovate the entrances to the building.

The regional program for capital repairs of housing stock being implemented in the capital corresponds to the goals and objectives of the national project “Infrastructure for life”.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Sergei Sobyanin spoke about interesting discoveries of Moscow archaeologists

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Moscow Government – Government of Moscow –

The central part of Moscow, like many other areas, is the richest source of knowledge about the past of the city and the country. And this heritage is carefully protected and studied. This was written in on your blog Sergei Sobyanin.

Before excavation work begins, an assessment of the archaeological potential of the territory is mandatory. And if necessary, excavations begin.

“Since 2010 alone, Moscow archaeologists have discovered more than 120,000 individual finds. The most ancient ones date back to the 12th–13th centuries, meaning they are the same age as our city. Last year, archaeological work was carried out at more than 200 sites with a total area of 15.4 thousand square meters — twice as much as in 2023. The excavations yielded a record number of finds — more than 13,000 individual items,” the Moscow Mayor shared.

In the new season, archaeologists will have no less work. They will examine more than 200 sites in the Tagansky, Presnensky, Basmanny, Zamoskvorechye, Khamovniki, Krasnopakhorsky, Bekasovo and Shcherbinka districts. The total area of excavations will be no less than five thousand square meters.

The archaeological work that began last year in Kitaygorodsky Proezd will continue on the site of one of the earthen bastions from the early 18th century and the buildings of the orphanage that were built here in the 19th century. Specialists will also work on Yauzskaya Street on the site of the 17th-century Semenovskaya Sloboda and the city estate, which housed the Yauzskaya Hospital in the second half of the 19th century, and on Timura Frunze Street on the site of the 17th-century Khamovnaya Sloboda, and on Soymonovsky Proezd on the site of the village of Semchinskoye from the 14th–17th centuries.

Excavations are being carried out in Maly Kislovsky Lane, Luzhnetsky Proezd and on Nikolskaya Street.

The new addresses include sites on Baumanskaya Street, Polyanka, Bolshaya Ordynka, Bolshaya Nikitskaya and Pyzhevsky Lane.

“By the way, at many excavations work continues in winter. Special greenhouses prevent the soil from freezing. So there are already the first finds of the current year, 2025 – more than 4.3 thousand artifacts. These are mainly fragments of ceramics and glass, but there are also individual finds. Among them is a red frame tile from the 16th century with a complex ornate ornament, found on the territory of the Chizhevsky courtyard on Nikolskaya Street. Each such tile is an important find that opens another window into the world of medieval art,” wrote Sergei Sobyanin.

Ceramic confectionery molds from the 19th century were found on Shlyuzovaya Embankment — these include flowers, cones, and probably bows. They were most likely used to make cookies or candies. Just like today, consumers in the 19th century appreciated the variety of desserts, thus stimulating the imagination of cooks.

Another interesting find from the Chizhevsky farmstead is a glazed ceramic dish from the 16th century, made in Turkey. The artifact is decorated with a floral pattern and a bouquet of blue flowers resembling carnations and, possibly, lavender sprigs. Such a dish is a striking example of trade relations between Russia and the East.

In Romanov Lane, at a depth of four meters inside the perimeter of a building that burned down many centuries ago, non-ferrous metal bells dating from the second half of the 16th to the beginning of the 17th century were found. Apparently, they were hidden either before Khan Devlet Giray’s invasion of Moscow in 1571, or before the Polish intervention of 1609. During the winter, restorers carefully cleaned the outer and inner surfaces of the bells, so now the bells have a wonderful exhibition appearance.

A cylindrical combination lock made of non-ferrous metal dating back to the second half of the 17th century was also found in Romanov Lane. It consists of seven disks with the Latin letters C, E, X, G, D applied to them. The most interesting thing is the two Latin letters MW on the end. Perhaps this is the monogram of its owner or the owner of the estate where the archaeological research was conducted. There is a possibility that it could be the regimental doctor Ulf, but scientists have yet to find out.

“As usual, all the finds will be carefully restored and then transferred to the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation as part of the collections. And since summer is just beginning and the main work is still ahead, we will probably still find many interesting artifacts from the lives of past generations of Muscovites,” concluded Sergei Sobyanin.
