  • MIL-OSI Security: VIDEO: Criminal Illegal Alien with Lengthy Rap Sheet Ambushes and Shoots CBP Officer in New York City

    Source: US Department of Homeland Security

    The suspect is a criminal illegal alien from the Dominican Republic was apprehended at the southern border and released into the country under the Biden Administration

    WASHINGTON – Today, the Department of Homeland Security lodged a detainer against an illegal alien accused of ambushing and shooting a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer who was off duty in New York City in Fort Washington Park under the George Washington Bridge on July 19 at approximately 11:51 PM ET.

    A witness of the attack—believed to be an attempted robbery—states that she and the victim were sitting on the rocks by the water when 2 subjects on a scooter drove up to them and the passenger got off the back and approached them with a firearm drawn. The off-duty CBP officer responded by withdrawing his own firearm in self defense.

    The CBP officer was shot in his right arm and left cheek. Thankfully, the officer is in stable condition at the hospital.

    Video of the attack is below.

    One of the assailants is Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a criminal illegal alien from the Dominican Republic. He illegally entered the United States on April 4, 2023, and was released by the Biden Administration into the country.

    This criminal illegal alien’s rap sheet includes:

    • On October 11, 2023, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) arrested and charged Nunez with felony grand larceny, petit larceny, and reckless driving.
    • On October 01, 2024, the NYPD arrested and charged Nunez with 2nd and 3rd degree assault.
    • On November 30, 2024, the NYPD arrested Nunez for criminal contempt. On January 13, 2025, he was again attested for criminal contempt.
    • On February 21, 2025, the Leominster Police Department in Massachusetts issued a criminal warrant for Nunez for armed robbery with a firearm.

    After failing to show up for his immigration hearing a judge issued Nunez a final order of removal on November 6, 2024.

    “This violent criminal illegal alien had multiple run-ins with NYPD for assault and felony grand larceny before he ambushed and shot a CBP officer. The Biden Administration arrested this criminal illegal alien at the border and chose to release him into our country to terrorize Americans. We are thankful that our brave law enforcement officer is in stable condition,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Sanctuary city politicians allowed this to happen. This suffering is a direct result of lawless sanctuary city policies. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, DHS will flood the zone in sanctuary cities and remove these criminals one by one. We will not be deterred: if you break America’s laws we will hunt you down, arrest you, and deport you.”

    The other suspect remains at large. Anonymous tips may be reported on this form and via the toll-free ICE tip line, (866) 347-2423.

  • MIL-Evening Report: Cook Islanders flock from outer islands for 60th anniversary celebrations

    By Caleb Fotheringham, RNZ Pacific journalist

    The Cook Islands’ outer islands, or Pa Enua, are emptying as people make the pilgrimage to Rarotonga for constitution celebrations.

    This year is particularly significant, August 4 marks 60 years of the Cook Islands being in free association with New Zealand.

    Cook Islands Secretary of Culture Emile Kairua said this year’s Te Maeva Nui, which is the name for the annual celebrations, is going to be huge.

    “For the first time in a long time, we are able to bring all our people together for a long-awaited reunion, from discussions with the teams that have already arrived, there’s only handful of people that’s been left on each of our outer islands,” Kairua said.

    “Basically, the outer islands have been emptied out.”

    According to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management, more than 900 people are making the trip to Rarotonga from the Pa Enua which are spread across an area similar to the size of Mexico.

    Cook Islands News reports that the government has allocated $4.1 mllion for event transport.

    Biggest calendar event
    Kairua said Te Maeva Nui is the biggest event on the Cook Islands’ calendar.

    “Te Maeva Nui has become an iconic event for the Cook Islands, for the nation, as well as the diaspora.”

    A comparable event was in 2015 when 50 years was marked.

    Kairua said for many people it will be the first time visiting Rarotonga since the start of the covid-19 pandemic.

    “Sixty years looks like it’s going to be a lot bigger than 50 for a number of reasons, because we’ve had that big gap since covid hit. If we liken it to covid it’s like the borders being lifted, and everyone now has that freedom to come to Raro.”

    Two ships, one from Tonga and the other from Tuvalu, are tasked with transporting people from the Northern Group islands to Rarotonga.

    While, Air Rarotonga has the job of moving people from the Southern Group.

    Tourist season peak
    The airline’s general manager Sarah Moreland said Te Maeva Nui comes during the peak of the tourism season, making July a very busy month.

    “We’ve got about 73 people from Mauke, 76 passengers from Mangaia, 88 from Aitutaki, 77 from Atiu and even 50 coming from the small island of Mitiaro, Nukuroa,” Moreland said.

    She said transporting people for Te Maeva Nui is a highlight for staff.

    “They love it, I think it’s so cool that we get to bring the Pa Enua from the islands, they just come to Rarotonga, they bring a whole different vibe. They’re so energetic, they’re ready for the competition, it just adds to the buzz of the whole Te Maeva Nui, it’s actually awesome.”

    The executive officer of Atiu Taoro Brown said two months of preparation had gone into the performances which represents the growth of the nation over the past 60 years.

    “It’s an exciting time, we come together, we’re meeting all our cousins and all our families from all the other islands, our sister islands, it’s a special moment.”

    Brown said this year the island had given performance slots to people from Atiu living in Rarotonga, Australia and New Zealand.

    “We wanted everybody from around the region to participate in celebrations.”

    Friendly competition
    Food is another big part of the event, an area Brown said there’s a bit of friendly competition in between islands.

    Pigs, taro, and “organic chicken” had all been sent to Rarotonga from Atiu.

    “Everyone likes to think they’ve got this the best dish but the food I feel, it’s all the same, you know, the island foods, it’s about the time that you put in.”

    For Kairua and his team at the Ministry of Culture, he said they needed to mindful to not allow the event to pass in a blur.

    “Otherwise we end up organising the whole thing and not enjoying it.

    “This is not our first big rodeo, or mine. I was responsible for taking away probably the biggest contingency to Hawai’i for the FestPAC and because we got so busy with organising it and worrying about the minor details, many of us at the management desk forgot to enjoy it, but this time, we are aware.”

    Turbulent relationship
    In the backdrop of celebrations, the Cook Islands and New Zealand’s relationship is in turbulent period.

    Last month, New Zealand paused $18.2 million in development assistance funding to the nation, citing a lack of consultation over several controversial deals with China.

    Unlike for the 50th celebrations, New Zealand’s prime minister and foreign minister will not attend the celebrations, with the Governor-General representing New Zealand.

    A statement from the Cook Islands Office of the Prime Minister last week said officials from the country have reconfirmed their commitment to restore mutual trust with New Zealand in a meeting on 10 July.

  • MIL-OSI Security: ICE Arrests Criminal Illegal Alien Who Concealed and Abused Body of a Missing Woman After Sanctuary City Judge Freed Illegal Alien onto Streets of Chicago

    Source: US Department of Homeland Security

    President Trump and Secretary Noem stand with the victims of illegal alien crime

    WASHINGTON — On July 19, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Chicago arrested Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, a 52-year-old criminal illegal alien from Mexico, who was charged in April with concealing the body of a missing woman in a storage container on his yard for two months, abusing her corpse, and obstruction of justice.

    Waukegan Police Department officers discovered the body of 37-year-old victim Megan Bos in a container in Mendoza’s yard in April after she had been reported missing on March 9, 2025

    Her body was found decapitated and in a bleach storage container by officers. Mendoza was charged in April. However, Lake County Judge Randie Bruno released him from custody at the conclusion of his court appearance, where he was immediately allowed to freely roam the Chicago streets.

    This criminal illegal alien is currently being held at Lake County Jail in Waukegan, Illinois.

    “Everyday ICE is arresting sickos like criminal illegal alien, Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, and stopping them from terrorizing Americans. This depraved alien was charged with concealing the body of a missing woman in a storage container for months and abusing her corpse,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “It is absolutely repulsive that a judge freed this monster and allowed him to walk free on Illinois’s streets after allegedly committing such a heinous crime. Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, Megan Bos and her family will have justice.”

    Secretary Noem relaunched the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) office. The VOICE office was shuttered by the previous administration, which left victims of alien crime without access to many key support services and resources. The office was first launched in 2017 by the Trump administration as a dedicated resource for those who have been victimized by crime that has a nexus to immigration.

    If you or a loved one has been impacted by a crime committed by an illegal alien, you are not alone. Call 1-855-48-VOICE (1-855-488-6423).

  • MIL-OSI Security: Six Months of Keeping America Safe Under President Trump and Secretary Noem

    Source: US Department of Homeland Security

    DHS has accomplished more in six months than most Administrations achieve in an entire term

    WASHINGTON – In just six months, President Trump and Secretary Noem have delivered the American people a long list of victories in their mission to secure the homeland and Make America Safe Again.

    Under their leadership, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has closed the southern border, removed violent criminal illegal aliens, restored law and order to our immigration system, supported Americans in times of crisis, revolutionized our Coast Guard to meet the challenges of the 21st Century, and kept Americans safe.

    Secured the Southern Border

    • On day one, President Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border.
    • President Trump immediately reinstated “Remain in Mexico” and ended catch-and-release.
    • Daily border encounters have plunged by 93% since President Trump took office.
    • Under President Trump’s leadership, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) has located over 10,000 unaccompanied children.
    • Migrants are turning BACK before they even reach our border— migration through Panama’s Darien Gap is down 99%.
    • President Trump—with $46.5 billion from the Big Beautiful Bill—is finishing the border wall. DHS already has more than 85 miles either planned or under construction with funding from the prior year, in addition to hundreds of miles that are now planned to be funded by the bill. President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill also includes over $5 billion for new technology and border surveillance.
    • With the Big Beautiful Bill, CBP will get the resources they need to keep America safe, including $4.1 billion to hire additional personnel, including 5,000 more customs officers and 3,000 new Border Patrol agents.
    • In June, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had the lowest number of nationwide encounters in CBP history at 25,228.
    • The number of nationwide apprehensions in June was also a historic low of just 8,024.
    • Notably, on June 28, Border Patrol recorded only 136 apprehensions across the entire Southwest Border—the lowest single-day total in agency history.
    • And in both May and June, U.S. Border Patrol reported zero parole releases—reinforcing the Administration’s commitment to ending catch-and-release policies.

    Removed the Worst of the Worst Illegal Aliens

    • The Trump Administration empowered our brave men and women in law enforcement to use common sense to do their jobs effectively.
    • DHS returned to using the term “illegal alien” which is the statutory language. President Trump will not allow political correctness to hinder law enforcement.
    • The Trump administration has arrested more than 300,000 illegal aliens in 2025 alone.
    • 70% of ICE arrests are criminal illegal aliens with criminal charges or convictions.
    • The Big Beautiful Bill will allow ICE to arrest and remove even more criminal aliens by providing $14.4 billion for removals, 10,000 new ICE agents, 80,000 new ICE beds, and a $10,000 signing bonus for new ICE agents. This will help ICE achieve as many as 1 million deportations per year.
    • As part of 287(g), DHS partnered with the State of Florida and opened Alligator Alcatraz, giving the Trump administration the capability to lock up some of the worst scumbags who entered the country illegally under the previous administration. The new facility expands facility and bed space by the thousands.
    • Operation Tidal Wave, the first 287(g) enforcement operation coordinated with state and federal law enforcement partners, resulted in over 800 arrests.
    • President Trump and Secretary Noem are empowering state and local law enforcement to get these criminal illegal aliens off our streets. DHS has secured more than 800 signed agreements with state and local partnerships under 287(g).
    • At the direction of President Trump, CBP and ICE began widescale immigration enforcement operations in sanctuary city Los Angeles and southern California. The month-long operation resulted in arresting some of the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens.
    • In July, federal law enforcement officers executed criminal warrant operations at marijuana grow sites in Carpinteria and Camarillo. At least 14 migrant children have been rescued from potential exploitation, forced labor and human trafficking. Federal officers also arrested at least 361 illegal aliens from both sites in Carpinteria and Camarillo.
    • After weeks of delays by activist judges, the Department of Homeland Security finally deported eight barbaric, violent criminal illegal aliens to South Sudan.

    Delivering Justice for Victims of Illegal Immigration

    • President Trump and Secretary Noem reopened the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) office, which was shuttered by the Biden Administration. President Trump and Secretary Noem are standing up for the victims of illegal alien crime and ensuring they have access to much needed resources and support they deserve.

    Incentivizing Historic Self-Deportations

    • President Trump ended the CBP One app that allowed more than one million aliens to illegally enter the U.S. The Trump Administration replaced this disastrous program with the CBP Home app, which has a new self-deportation reporting feature for aliens illegally in the country.
    • President Trump launched Project Homecoming through a presidential EO. The United States is also offering any illegal alien who uses the CBP Home App a stipend of $1,000 dollars, paid after their return to their home country has been confirmed through the app. So far, tens of thousands of illegal aliens have used the app to self-deport.
    • In addition to offering CBP Home, DHS announced illegal aliens who self-deport through the app will receive forgiveness of any civil fines or penalties for failing to depart the United States. DHS also made CBP Home more user friendly by eliminating certain steps and making it easier than ever for illegal aliens to self-deport.
    • DHS and DOJ are enforcing our immigration laws and fining illegal aliens who do not depart when they are supposed to. So far, nearly 10,000 fine notices have been issued by ICE.

    Restoring Common Sense to America’s Legal Immigration System

    • President Trump ended the broad abuse of humanitarian parole and returned the program to a case-by-case basis. As part of this effort, Secretary Noem terminated the Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela parole programs.
    • Following victory at the U.S. Supreme Court, DHS began sending termination notices in June, informing the illegal aliens both their parole is terminated, and their parole-based employment authorization is revoked – effective immediately.
    • DHS has returned the Temporary Protected Status immigration program to its original status: temporary. No longer will this program be abused and exploited by illegal aliens. Secretary Noem rescinded the previous administration’s extension of Venezuelan, Haitian, Nicaraguan, Honduran, and Afghan TPS.
    • Secretary Noem terminated Harvard University’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification—meaning Harvard can no longer enroll foreign students and existing foreign students must transfer or lose their legal status—for fostering violence, antisemitism, and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party.
    • It is a privilege, not a right, for universities to enroll foreign students and benefit from higher tuition to help pad their multibillion-dollar endowments. Harvard University repeatedly abused this privilege and even stonewalled DHS’s request for information.

    Initiating a Golden Age in American Air Travel

    • Secretary Noem terminated the politically motivated Quiet Skies Program, which since its existence has failed to stop a single terrorist attack while costing US taxpayers $200 million a year. The program, under the guise of “national security,” was used to target political opponents and benefit political allies.
    • TSA ended the “shoes-off” travel policy, allowing passengers traveling through domestic airports to keep their shoes on while passing through security screening at TSA checkpoints. This change will drastically decrease passenger wait times at our TSA checkpoints, leading to a more pleasant and efficient passenger experience.
    • The Trump administration fully implemented REAL ID enforcement measures nationwide—a law signed 20 years ago. REAL ID helps ensure that travelers are who they say they are and prevents fraud by criminals, terrorists, and illegal aliens. Most travelers have not even noticed a difference because nearly 94% of travelers are already REAL ID compliant.
    • Secretary Noem ended collective bargaining for the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Transportation Security Officers, which constrained TSA’s chief mission to safeguard our transportation systems.

    Fixing Disaster Relief for the 21st Century

    • The Federal Emergency Management Agency is now shifting from bloated, DC-centric dead weight to a lean, deployable disaster force that empowers state actors to provide relief for their citizens. The old processes are being replaced because they failed Americans in real emergencies for decades.
    • President Trump has established the FEMA Review Council to provide recommendations on how to best conduct disaster relief at the federal level.
    • Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, the FEMA Review Council is developing a comprehensive plan for necessary change.
    • DHS has empowered state and local governments to lead disaster relief efforts without interference from the federal government.

    Provided Rapid and Effective Support to Flood Victims in Texas

    • Within moments of the flooding in Texas, DHS assets, including the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), CBP Border Search, CBP BORSTAR, and FEMA personnel surged into unprecedented action alongside Texas first responders for search and rescue operations.
    • FEMA deployed 311 staffers delivering critical intelligence, aerial imagery, and shelter for 171 survivors.
    • Combined state and federal rescue efforts evacuated and rescued over 1,500 people.

    Getting CISA Back on Mission

    • Under the Biden Administration, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) censored free speech and targeted Americans.
    • Under President Trump’s direction, DHS closed CISA’s politically weaponized offices and fired those responsible for abusing their power.
    • CISA is now back on-mission: Protecting Americans and critical infrastructure from cyberthreats.
    • CISA is shifting away from an all-hazards approach to a risk-informed approach, prioritizing resilience and action over mere information sharing.
    • CISA personnel are deployed across 10 regions in support of all 56 states/territories.
    • CISA is also on the front lines of defending America from cyberattacks.
    • CISA partnered with the FBI and NSA to ensure state and local governments have information and resources necessary for protection.
    • CISA is also providing security support for next year’s FIFA World Cup.
    • Secretary Noem discontinued the Critical Infrastructure Partnership Advisory Council (CIPAC) as a part of the implementation of President Trump’s Executive Order 14217, Commencing the Reduction of the Federal Bureaucracy, and removed members of the Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB), which CISA oversees.

    Revolutionizing the Coast Guard

    • When President Trump came back into office, the Coast Guard faced its greatest readiness crisis since World War II because the Biden Administration left it underfunded and neglected.
    • President Trump’s order to surge Coast Guard assets to our maritime border changed the game.
    • In the first few months of the Trump Administration, the Coast Guard seized more cocaine and other illegal drugs than during the entirety of 2024.
    • For the first time in years, the Coast Guard expects to exceed its recruiting goals.
    • In Fiscal Year 2025, the Coast Guard has brought in more than 4,250 recruits – 1,200 more than the same time last year.
    • That’s 108% over the goal.
    • Under Biden, the Coast Guard fell short of its recruiting goals four years straight.
    • Under President Trump and Secretary Noem, the Coast Guard is unleashing “Force Design 2028,” a revolutionary new blueprint that will make the Coast Guard more agile, more capable, and more responsive than ever before.

    Standing up for the American taxpayer

    • The United States Coast Guard (USCG) eliminated an ineffective information technology (IT) program, saving nearly $33 million, and is now focusing resources where they’re most needed to protect our homeland.
    • USCG partially terminated a wasteful Offshore Patrol Cutter (OPC) contract with Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG), which has been slow to deliver four OPCs, harming U.S. defense capabilities.
    • The Trump Administration stopped aliens on the Terror Watchlist from receiving Medicaid benefits.
    • Secretary Noem cancelled CISA’s expensive headquarters project, saving taxpayers over half a billion dollars.

    To stop policies that were magnets for illegal immigration, DHS froze all funding to non-governmental organizations that facilitate illegal immigration and announced a partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to ensure taxpayer dollars do not go to housing illegal aliens.

  • MIL-OSI: CORRECTION – WLTH Opens Private Markets to Everyone with Launch of Tokenised Fractional Ownership in Hadron Energy

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

    Retail investors gain first-of-its-kind onchain access to earlystage private equity in nuclear microreactors

    PANAMA CITY, Panama and REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., July 20, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In a release issued under the same headline on July 19, 2025 by Common Wealth, please note that the boilerplate for Hadron Energy was incorrect. The corrected release follows:

    WLTH, the alternative investments platform operated by Common Wealth (wlth.xyz), today announced that it will next week launch its inaugural tokenised privateequity opportunity:: Hadron Energy, a California‑based micro‑modular reactor innovator.

    The launch is believed to be the first time a blockchain‑native platform offers retail investors worldwide the ability to purchase fractionalised equity tokens in a private company in this manner. Existing initiatives from established asset managers (e.g., Hamilton Lane/Republic) have remain extremely gated, positioning WLTH at the forefront of democratised access to private markets.

    Market Opportunity & Potential Upside

    • Sector growth: Global micro‑ and small‑modular reactor (SMR) market projected to grow from US$0.65 billion in 2025 to US$8.9 billion by 2037 (19% CAGR). (researchnester.com)
    • Public comparables: Listed peers Oklo and NuScale Power command market caps of approximately US$9.5 billion and US$4.7 billion respectively despite being pre‑commercial. (companiesmarketcap.com, ycharts.com)
    • Illustrative exit scenario: If Hadron successfully licenses its first-of-a-kind reactor and secures large power‑purchase agreements, peer benchmarks suggest a potential multi‑billion‑dollar valuation. A retail “Slice” bought for US$20 today could theoretically be worth US$600–9,000+ under ideal conditions — though returns are not guaranteed and capital is at risk.

    Investment Highlights

    • Regulatory traction: Hadron Energy was added to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s advanced‑reactor pre‑application list in May 2025, less than a year after inception.
    • NRC public meeting: On 8 July 2025, Hadron hosted a hybrid public meeting at NRC Headquarters to outline its accelerated micro‑reactor licensing pathway; presentation materials are available via the NRC’s ADAMS public filing system.
    • DOE recognition: Hadron is featured in the Department of Energy’s GAIN Advanced Nuclear Directory (June 2025 edition).
    • Commercial momentum: $1.8m raised in this round, a further $2.4m committed as of 16 July 2025, and the company is negotiating with a leading hyperscale cloud provider to deliver hundreds of megawatts of baseload power to data‑centre campuses.
    • Engineering expansion: Hadron opened an 18,000 sq ft flagship engineering office in Redwood Shores, California, neighbouring Oracle’s campus.

    Quotes

    “Today we put a stake in the ground for financial inclusion,” said Jonathan  Woolley, Co‑Founder of Common Wealth. “By lowering the minimum ticket to just $20, WLTH is giving everyday people the chance to back breakthrough climatetech that was previously reserved for elite venture and privateequity circles.”

    Samuel Gibson, Founder & CEO of Hadron Energy, added: “Within 11 months our design reached the NRC’s official registry — a timeline unheardof in our sector. Partnering with WLTH lets us convert this regulatory momentum into broadbased support, accelerating our mission to deliver carbonfree baseload power.”

    How the Token Works

    • Structure: Each “Slice” (immutable on-chain ownership) represents an exact pro‑rata share in all and any liquidity arising from holding the Hadron equity.
    • Standard: ERC‑ 721 token.
    • Secondary liquidity: Tradable on WLTH’s peer‑to‑peer Slice Marketplace (or other NFT platforms such as Opensea).
    • Minimum investment: USD 20.
    • Distributions: Any dividends or exits are paid automatically in USDC (USD equivalent cryptocurrency stable coin) to token holders’ wallets.

    Offering Timeline (2025)

    Date Milestone
    22 July Priority access opens for WLTH Genesis NFT holders and Top 50 stakers
    23 July Public sale opens
    24 July Allocation finalised, secondary trading enabled

    Innovation

    In another first for the industry, the WLTH platform will also allow users to gift this investment—or a portion of their own—to friends and family using only an email address, making a stake in a private company as easy to give as an e-gift card.

    About WLTH

    WLTH is an alternative investment platform for the 99%. Using the best of web 2 and 3 to open access to highly gated opportunities across RWA, private equity, venture capital, and crypto income creating strategies. WASHINGTON, July 20 (Xinhua) — The U.S. government on Saturday announced new restrictions on flights from Mexico, accusing Mexico of violating a bilateral aviation agreement on market access and fair competition.

    Mexico has been in non-compliance with the U.S.-Mexico Air Services Agreement, signed in 2015, since 2022 “after unilaterally revoking slots and then forcing U.S. cargo airlines to relocate their operations,” the U.S. Department of Transportation said in a statement.

    Then-Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador argued that the capital’s Benito Juárez Airport (MEX) was overloaded and needed to be rebuilt ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be partly hosted in Mexico. He also claimed that a new airport 30 miles (48 km) from the capital would be able to handle the extra traffic.

    “By restricting slots and requiring cargo operations to be moved away from MEX, Mexico has violated its commitments, destabilized the market, and imposed millions of dollars in additional costs on U.S. companies,” the statement said.

    U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced three measures under the “America First” policy, which include requiring Mexican airlines to submit all U.S. flight schedules to the U.S. Department of Transportation, requiring pre-approval from the department before chartering large passenger or cargo aircraft to and from the U.S., and potentially waiving antitrust immunity for the joint venture between Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico, Mexico’s flag carrier, to address competition in the marketplace.

    Delta and Aeromexico, which began their partnership in 2016, have been fighting the ministry’s threats since early last year. The airlines argue that it is unfair to punish them for the Mexican government’s actions. They estimate that ending the partnership would impact nearly two dozen routes and result in a loss of about $800 million.

    The ministry said it reserves the right to reject requests for flights from Mexico if the country fails to take action.

    Mexico has been the most popular international destination for American tourists for many years, with about 45 million foreign tourists visiting the country in 2024, according to Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography. –0–

  • MIL-OSI China: Messi brace powers Miami past Red Bulls

    Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

    Lionel Messi scored two goals and set up another as Inter Miami recovered from a goal down to crush New York Red Bulls 5-1 in the MLS on Saturday.

    German defender Alexander Hack gave the hosts the lead by volleying home from Emil Forsberg’s corner at the near post.

    Messi then sent a sublime through ball into the path of his former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba, who took a touch before rifling a shot into the far corner.

    Alba turned provider three minutes later as his cut-back allowed Telasco Segovia to fire in a first-time effort from eight yards.

    Inter Miami was suddenly in overdrive and Venezuelan midfielder Segovia made it 3-1 just before halftime as he pounced on a loose ball to slot home from distance.

    Messi extended his side’s lead by running onto Sergio Busquets’ defense-splitting pass from deep inside his own half and rounding goalkeeper Carlos Coronel before rolling the ball into an unguarded net.

    The Florida outfit completed the rout in the 75th minute when Messi chested down Luis Suarez’s cross and smashed his shot into the top-left corner.

    Messi has now scored at least twice in six of his past seven matches. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner now has 18 goals and seven assists in 18 MLS outings this year.

    Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano heaped praise on Messi after the match, saying the Argentine proved yet again why he is one of the greatest players in history.

    “Ultimately, I think any sports fan, not just football fans, admires these types of athletes, whether it’s Lionel Messi, Michael Jordan in his time, Rafa Nadal,” Mascherano told a post-match news conference.

    “These are people who have transcended sports, and the reality is that those of us who have the opportunity to experience this up close are very privileged.”

    The result leaves Inter Miami fifth in the Eastern Conference with 41 points, seven points behind leaders Cincinnati but with three games in hand. New York Red Bulls are ninth, eight points further back.

  • MIL-OSI China: Di Maria penalty gives Rosario Central 1-0 win over 10-man Lanus

    Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

    Angel Di Maria scored a late penalty as Rosario Central edged to a 1-0 away win over 10-man Lanus in Argentina’s Primera Division Clausura tournament on Saturday.

    Lanus defender Carlos Izquierdoz was sent off in the 71st minute for remonstrating with the referee over a penalty awarded against goalkeeper Nahuel Losada for tripping Gaspar Duarte in the area.

    Di Maria converted the resultant spot kick and Rosario Central held on to secure its first win of the campaign.

    “It was a tough game against a difficult opponent but thankfully we were awarded a clear penalty and I was able to make the most of it,” said Di Maria, who rejoined his original club on a free transfer earlier this month.

    “I’m happy for all of our fans who made the trip to watch us today. I hope they enjoyed this victory,” added the World Cup winner.

    Rosario Central is now fourth in Group B, with four points from two games, having drawn its season opener against Godoy Cruz. Lanus is last in the 15-team group with two losses from as many matches.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick Celebrates Court Victory Halting Haitian Deportations Until February 2026

    Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Florida 20th district))

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) issued the following statement following the Administration’s confirmation that it will comply with a federal court order halting deportations for Haitian Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders until at least February 3, 2026.

    “This is not just a policy decision—it is a hard-fought legal victory for the Haitian community and all who have stood in defense of our immigrant families. The court’s ruling makes clear what we have always known: TPS holders deserve stability, protection, and respect, not political games or legal uncertainty.

    “Because of this ruling, deportations tied to the now-vacated February order cannot proceed, and Haitian TPS holders can continue to live and work in the U.S. with authorization through February 3, 2026. Those who were wrongfully fired due to confusion around work permits must be reinstated immediately. These individuals are essential workers, caregivers, and taxpayers, and they deserve justice.

    “Let’s be clear: this is the enforcement of the law. Our communities should not have to rely on court orders to be treated with dignity. A stronger path forward begins at home, with permanent protections and immigration reform that centers humanity, not politics.

    “I remain committed to ensuring our Haitian and other communities are not treated as temporary. They are a vital part of the American fabric, and I will not stop fighting until our laws reflect that truth.”

  • MIL-OSI United Nations: Desks become beds as Haitian school shelters people displaced by violence

    Source: United Nations MIL OSI

    The classrooms at Anténor Firmin school in Hinche in central Haiti are no longer studiously quiet.

    Once a place of learning, it now echoes with the sounds of babies crying, water containers clanking, and voices murmuring through the night.

    Over 700 people displaced by violence are crammed into the crumbling compound, sleeping on floors where children once solved math problems.

    Among them is Edens Désir, a former teacher, who continues to believe that education should be the key to a more prosperous and peaceful future for this beleaguered Caribbean Island nation.

    © IOM/Antoine Lemonnier

    Edens Désir teaches a class at Anténor Firmin school.

    A trained accountant and former secondary-school teacher, his life was upended by the violent clashes that erupted in March 2025 in Saut-d’Eau and Mirebalais, two small towns south of Hinche.

    Like 6,000 others, he fled massacres, rape, arson, and looting.

    “Everything I built, little by little, was destroyed,” he said. “I walked away with nothing.”

    Warring gangs have long controlled most of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, some 30 miles (48 km) away.

    It is only recently that their sphere of influence has moved to more the more rural areas of Centre department where, Hinche and Saut-d’Eau are located.

    Edens Désir, found refuge in the school where he once studied, a place now stripped of its purpose. Desks have become beds. Classrooms have turned into shelters. Families lie packed into rooms never meant to house them.

    © IOM/Antoine Lemonnier

    A classroom at Anténor Firmin school in Hinche now serves as both a shelter and an informal learning space for displaced children.

    Even in these crowded rooms, he found a way to start over. Not for himself, but for the children around him. With a whiteboard, a marker, and quiet determination, he has brought a sense of purpose to lives that have been thrown off course.

    “Ever since I was a kid, I loved teaching,” he explained. “It’s what matters most to me. I’d rather be in front of a class than sitting around doing nothing. For these kids, school is the only real chance they’ve got.”

    Living in limbo

    Once on the verge of expanding a small business, Mr. Désir now lives in limbo. “That plan is gone. Violence made sure of it. My only option now is to leave and try to start over somewhere else. But as long as I’m here, I will keep sharing what I know.”

    These days, he takes life one day at a time. “I can’t make plans anymore,” he said. “Each day, I just figure things out as they come. Each night, I wonder if there will be food tomorrow.”

    Clean water is scarce. Long queues stretch at distribution points, where women and children wait patiently, balancing heavy containers.

    Hygiene conditions are dire. With few latrines and showers available, hundreds are left without privacy or sanitation. The health risks are growing, especially for the most vulnerable.

    Food is just as uncertain. “There are nights I go to sleep without eating,” he says. “But I keep teaching because the kids are here.”

    © IOM/Antoine Lemonnier

    IOM staff and a civil protection agent asses the needs of displaced people

    Delivering aid to the displaced is no easy task. The main road between Port-au-Prince and Hinche remains blocked by insecurity, cutting off supply routes and isolating entire communities.

    Despite the hurdles, the UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reached over 800 families across 17 displacement sites, providing emergency items such as shelter kits, blankets, kitchen sets, and jerrycans.

    IOM teams continue working directly with displaced families, host communities, and local authorities to assess needs and provide relief.

    Site committees and civil protection teams are being trained to better manage the shelters. The most fragile sites are being relocated to safer areas and mental health support is offered to those affected by the violence.

    Protect the vulnerable

    These efforts aim to protect the most vulnerable, especially children, from a crisis they did not choose but are now forced to navigate.

    Edens Désir believes that knowledge is the best defence against dehumanization. When violence tears everything apart, forcing children into displacement, splitting families, and cutting off access to education, teaching becomes an act of resistance.

    Even when the days feel heavy, he keeps showing up for the children who still believe in him.

    “If we want things to change, we need people who grow into better citizens,” he said. “I don’t know if what I’m doing is enough to make that happen, but it gives me purpose. It breaks my heart to know that one day I’ll have to leave them behind and look for a better future.”

  • MIL-OSI Africa: Aid cuts leave refugee agency unable to shelter six in 10 fleeing war in Sudan

    Source: APO

    .

    Major cuts to aid budgets have already left people fleeing wars in Sudan and beyond without the assistance and protection they need, the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, said on Friday.

    Globally, $1.4 billion of the agency’s programmes are being shuttered or put on hold, UNHCR said in a new report.

    “We can’t stop water, you can’t stop sanitation, but we’re having to take decisions when it comes, for example, to shelter,” said UNHCR Director of External Relations Dominique Hyde.

    “We’re have people arriving on a daily basis from Sudan, from the Darfur regions…arriving in Chad, not able to be given any shelter.”

    In an urgent appeal for flexible funding from donors, Ms. Hyde noted that up to 11.6 million refugees and others risk losing access this year to direct humanitarian assistance from UNHCR. The figure represents about one third of those reached by the organization last year.

    On the Sudan-Chad border, the UN agency is now unable to provide “even basic shelter” to more than six in 10 refugees fleeing the conflict. Thousands more vulnerable people have been left stranded in remote border locations in South Sudan too. “If we just had a bit more support, we could get them to settlements,” she insisted.

    Because of the funding cuts, basic activities have already been hit hard. These include refugee registration, child protection, legal counselling and prevention of and responses to gender-based violence.

    All aid sectors hit

    In South Sudan, 75 per cent of safe spaces for women and girls supported by UNHCR have closed. That means leaving up to 80,000 refugee women and girls without access to medical care, psychosocial support, legal aid, material support or income-generating activities. This includes survivors of sexual violence, UNHCR noted.

    “Behind these numbers are real lives hanging in the balance,” Ms. Hyde said.

    “Families are seeing the support they relied on vanish, forced to choose between feeding their children, buying medicines or paying rent, while hope for a better future slips out of sight. Every sector and operation has been hit and critical support is being suspended to keep lifesaving aid going.”

    Libya influx

    Many of those impacted by the war in Sudan have taken the decision to move from Chad and Egypt to Libya, into the hands of people smugglers who dangerously overload boats with desperate people seeking to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.

    “What we’re observing now is that in terms of arrivals in Europe of…Sudanese refugees, [it] has increased since the beginning of the year by about 170 per cent compared to the first six months of 2024,” said UNHCR spokesperson Olga Sarrado.

    Support slashed from Niger to Ukraine

    In camps hosting Myanmar’s Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, education for some 230,000 children could now be suspended. Meanwhile in Lebanon “UNHCR’s entire health programme is at risk of being shuttered by the end of the year,” Ms. Hyde continued.

    In Niger and other emergency settings, cuts in financial aid for shelter have left families in overcrowded structures or at risk of homelessness. In Ukraine, financial aid has also been slashed, “leaving uprooted families unable to afford rent, food or medical treatment”, she noted.

    Assistance to returning Afghans has also become another victim of global aid cuts. Around 1.9 million Afghan nationals have returned home or been forced back since the start of the year, “but financial aid for returnees is barely enough to afford food, let alone rent, undermining efforts to ensure stable reintegration”, UNHCR said.

    Legal aid halted

    Overall, several UNHCR operations hit by severe funding gaps have now had to curtail investments in strengthening asylum systems and promoting regularisation efforts.

    In Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Mexico, any prolonged lack of legal status means prolonged insecurity for people on the move, the UN agency said. This results in deepening poverty “as refugees are excluded from formal employment and greater exposure to exploitation and abuse”, Ms. Hyde explained.

    Approximately one in three of the agency’s 550 offices around the world has been impacted by the cuts, Ms. Hyde told journalists in Geneva:

    “We’re not in a position to do so much contingency planning; what we’re able to do is make decisions on priorities and, at this point, the priorities as I mentioned are dramatic.”

    For 2025, UNHCR needs $10.6 billion. Only 23 per cent of this amount has been provided.

    “Against this backdrop, our teams are focusing efforts on saving lives and protecting those forced to flee,” Ms. Hyde said. “Should additional funding become available, UNHCR has the systems, partnerships and expertise to rapidly resume and scale up assistance.”

    UNITED NATIONS, July 19 (Xinhua) — China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Geng Shuang called for efforts to advance the peace process in Colombia at a Security Council meeting on Friday.

    According to him, the peace process in Colombia is a fine example of ending conflict and restoring peace through dialogue and negotiations. As the process is now entering an uncharted path, relevant parties should strengthen their resolve, overcome difficulties, and steadily advance the cause of peace for the sake of stability and development of the country, Geng Shuang said.

    “The peace agreement remains an effective roadmap for consolidating peace in Colombia, and achieving peace is in the interests of all Colombian parties,” the diplomat said.

    According to the deputy permanent representative, China supports the decision of Colombian President Gustavo Petro to focus on implementing the peace agreement during the remainder of his term. China welcomes the recent development by the Colombian government of an action plan for 2025, which sets out priorities in various sectors, he added.

    As the presidential election in Colombia approaches, China hopes that all political forces in the country will put the people’s well-being first, cherish and defend the peace achieved so far, and prevent a return to political violence, Geng Shuang stressed.

    Beijing stands ready to strengthen cooperation with members of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), including Colombia, to build a China-CELAC community with a shared future, thereby making positive contributions to world peace and development, he added. –0–

    A justice of Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court on Friday decided to impose strict legal restrictions on former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his son Eduardo Bolsonaro for coercion, obstruction of justice, and attack on national sovereignty.

    Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the measures include nightly house arrest on weekdays, full-time house arrest on weekends and holidays, wearing an electronic ankle monitor, and a ban on contacting foreign diplomats or visiting embassies and consulates, the supreme court said in a press release.

    According to the release, the former president and his son had lobbied in the United States to solicit sanctions against Brazilian officials.

    The justice stated that Brazil’s sovereignty will never be negotiated, reaffirming the supreme court’s determination to defend democratic and constitutional principles.

    The decision follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of 50 percent tariffs on Brazilian exports effective Aug. 1. Trump linked the hefty tariffs to the ongoing legal proceedings against Bolsonaro.

    MEXICO CITY, July 18 (Xinhua) — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday strongly opposed the construction of a new section of wall on the border with the United States in New Mexico, calling it a unilateral move by Washington.

    At a daily press conference, she stressed that Mexico is in no way involved in the project and does not provide funding.

    “They are building it themselves. We do not support the wall. We have secured the border through cooperation and coordination, not through walls,” said K. Sheinbaum.

    According to her, the decision to build the wall belongs exclusively to US President Donald Trump. Mexico gives preference to cooperation based on development and respect for Mexicans living in the US, the head of state noted.

    The Trump administration this week began a new phase of construction on an additional border fence between Santa Teresa, New Mexico, and Ciudad Juarez in northern Mexico. The project includes 6 miles of 30-foot-tall steel posts installed behind an older 18-foot-tall fence. –0–

  • India sees strong 12.6% growth in investment confidence in Q3 2025, highest among 32 economies: report

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

    Despite a marginal 1.4 per cent decline in business investment confidence, India recorded the highest year-on-year growth among 32 economies surveyed for Q3 2025, registering a strong 12.6 per cent increase, according to the Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) Global Business Investment Confidence Index.

    The report noted that the Global Business Investment Confidence Index fell by 13.1 per cent quarter-on-quarter (q/q) for Q3 2025, marking the third consecutive quarter of decline.

    This drop in confidence was broad-based, with sharp declines reported across all five sub-indices. This contrasts with Q2 2025, when only capital expenditure and workforce size were expected to decrease.

    The report also highlighted that nearly half of the surveyed businesses (46.8 per cent) cited supply chain stability as a key factor influencing investment decisions for Q3 2025. In contrast, tariff uncertainty and domestic interest rates were among the least influential factors. This aligns with earlier findings indicating that the Global Supply Chain Continuity Index remains the lowest among all indices, standing at 99.9 for Q3.

    Globally, the decline in investment confidence was steeper in advanced economies than in emerging ones. Even when excluding the U.S.—which saw a sharp 16.7 per cent q/q drop and holds the largest weight—confidence in advanced economies fell more significantly than in emerging economies. France, Japan, Germany, and Spain recorded the steepest declines among advanced economies, reversing the gains made in Q2.

    Among emerging markets, the Russian Federation (-26.1 per cent), Brazil (-23.9 per cent), and South Africa (-20.7 per cent) experienced the largest q/q drops. In Brazil, aggressive monetary tightening by the Central Bank, which has raised the Selic rate by 425 basis points since last year, has significantly dampened capital expenditure plans. In South Africa, exposure to U.S. tariffs—particularly on automobile exports—has contributed to the decline in confidence.

    In terms of sectors, the manufacturing industry recorded a steeper drop in investment confidence (-17.2 per cent) than the services sector (-10.8 per cent) for Q3 2025. Within manufacturing, the capital goods (-33.1 per cent), food (-26.9 per cent), and automotive (-26.4 per cent) sub-sectors saw the most significant declines. The chemicals manufacturing sub-sector reported the smallest decline at -14.8 per cent, potentially due to exemptions from new U.S. tariffs, particularly those affecting pharmaceutical products.

    On a positive note, the report stated that expected capacity utilisation for Q3 2025 rose to 68.9 per cent in the services sector and 69.3 per cent in the manufacturing sector—the first quarter-on-quarter increase since Q1 2024.

    “Though this is a positive signal for future capital expenditure, the level remains below the 2024 averages of 73.9% and 74.1% for services and manufacturing, respectively,” the report concluded.

  • MIL-OSI China: China women’s basketball team kicks off Universiade title defense with easy win

    Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

    The Chinese women’s basketball team, the reigning champion, sealed a lop-sided 88-56 victory over Portugal in its first group match Friday at the FISU World University Games.

    Shooting guard Chen Yujie dished out 19 points for China with efficient 28 minutes on the court, making seven out of nine attempts, including a 3-pointer. Forward Li Xingnuo buried three 3-pointers out of six attempts to add 16 points. Three more Chinese players scored in double-digit points.

    Point guard Ines Ramos had a team-high 14 points from 11 shooting attempts. Forward Eva Carregosa was the only other Portuguese player contributing 10-plus points.

    China opened the game with a 3-0 run, all coming from free throws before Portugal reinforced its attacks to level the score 14-14 with Maria Do Camo Cruz’s field goal. Carregosa’s consecutive five points from a 3-pointer and two free throws gave Portugal a 23-20 lead to wrap up the first quarter.

    Starting strong in the second quarter with an 8-0 spurt, China contained Portugal to just four field goals throughout the quarter and built up a 46-33 advantage into the interval, outscoring Portugal by 26-10 in the period.

    China maintained its momentum back into the court with a 6-0 to start the third quarter. Five straight points from Ramos’ layup and 3-pointer helped Portugal narrow the deficit to 56-40, but a follow-up 3-pointer from Li Qingyang and a buzzer-beater from Zhang Zihan handed China an 18-point lead. The game went into the final period by 61-43.

    The final quarter was left to substitutes for both teams and the match ended with 88-56.

    China grabbed a total of 42 rebounds, 16 more than their opponents, which partly defined the direction of the game.

    “We met Portugal at the Chengdu Universiade in 2023, so we somehow know their style,” said Chinese coach Zhao Xuetong, a basketball trainer from Beijing Normal University, where most of the Chinese players come.

    “We are the (Universiade) titleholder, but the squad here is much different, and some top players called up two years ago are absent. Hopefully, we can play better and finish our campaign here on podium.”

    In the other match in Group D, Romania snatched a narrow win of 64-60 over Chile. China will meet Romania and Portugal is to take on Chile on Saturday.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Durbin Reveals Devastating Insights Into Florida ICE Detention Facilities In Exclusive Site Visit

    US Senate News:

    Source: United States Senator for Illinois Dick Durbin
    July 18, 2025
    Staff site visits provide new, incriminating insight into the cruelty of the illegal Trump mass deportation agenda, including overcrowding, inhumane conditions, no access to medical care, and difficulty accessing legal counsel
    CHICAGO – Today, U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, revealed devastating insights into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities, following staff site visits to two Florida immigration detention facilities in June. The visits to Krome North Service Processing Center and Federal Detention Center (FDC) Miami provide new, incriminating insight into the cruelty of the illegal Trump mass deportation agenda, including overcrowding, inhumane conditions, no access to medical care, and difficulty accessing legal counsel.
    On the exclusive site visits, Durbin released the following statement:
    “My staff’s visits to the ICE detention facilities reaffirm what we’ve already known: The cruelty and inhumanity of the Trump Administration’s illegal mass deportation scheme knows no bounds.
    “Immigration detention is at a crisis point as the Administration ramps up enforcement and doubles down on lengthy detention of people without criminal backgrounds. People are being disappeared, and the Trump Administration is barring lawful congressional oversight. These actions don’t make our country safer, and the Trump mass deportation system is designed to punish immigrants who pose no threat.
    “I will keep doing everything I can do bring these abuses to light.”
    Key observations from the site visits include:
    The Trump Administration’s mass deportation agenda is resulting in dangerous levels of overcrowding and deteriorating conditions at facilities like Krome.
    ICE was ill-prepared to address overcrowding caused by the large influx of detainees and has resorted to using large tents to house individuals.
    The Trump Administration’s ill-conceived mass deportation plan has resulted in the use of BOP facilities in which the conditions force detainees to live in de facto solitary confinement.
    Immigrants at Krome struggle to receive adequate health care because staff fail to take their medical concerns seriously.
    Immigrants at FDC Miami face obstacles accessing basic services and are forced to endure unsanitary conditions.
    Bureaucratic red tape makes it nearly impossible for immigrants to access adequate mental health care at Krome.
    Immigrants have limited opportunities to report complaints of abuse or neglect.
    Fear and chaos are key tools of Trump’s mass deportation agenda, with detained immigrants dreading transfer to remote detention facilities far from their families and lacking information about their cases.
    Immigrants detained at FDC Miami are denied information on the status of their cases and have difficulty placing calls to legal counsel and family members.
    For a PDF copy of the devastating insights into the detention facilities, click here.
    In May, Durbin released insights from visits to two facilities in Louisiana and escalated congressional oversight of the Trump Administration’s aggressive expansion of immigration detention, which has created a major financial boon for private prison companies.
    Earlier this year, Durbin released a revealing investigative report on inadequate care in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facilities and pressed for further investigation into deficient medical care in CBP detention facilities after whistleblower reports alleged systemic failures by DHS to ensure proper oversight of its medical care contractor.
    Durbin continues to actively investigate care in ICE detention facilities, which he initiated with letters to ICE and GAO. A June 2024 report from the American Civil Liberties Union, Physicians for Human Rights, and American Oversight found that 95 percent of documented deaths in ICE custody between 2017-2021 were likely preventable.
    This oversight work was prompted by the death of Anadith Danay Reyes Álvarez, an eight-year-old Panamanian girl, at a CBP detention facility in Harlingen, Texas, on May 17, 2023.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Cornyn Celebrates Delivery of $280 Million in Drought Assistance for South Texas

    US Senate News:

    Source: United States Senator for Texas John Cornyn
    WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today lauded the rollout of more than $280 million in emergency assistance deliveries for South Texas farmers and ranchers impacted by the water shortage as part of a grant program U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, Sen. Cornyn, and others secured for the region late last year:
    “The delivery of $280 million in drought assistance to South Texas will provide much-needed relief to farmers and ranchers in the Valley who have suffered from Mexico’s repeated refusal to provide the water it owes under the Water Treaty,” said Sen. Cornyn. “I was proud to work alongside Secretary Rollins and lead several of my colleagues from Texas in the mission to secure this funding, and I look forward to continuing to partner with the Trump administration and state leaders to provide every resource necessary for our agriculture community.”
    Background:
    Sen. Cornyn has led the charge in Congress to boost Texas’ water supply and ensure Mexico fulfills its treaty obligations to provide annual deliveries of water to South Texas farmers and ranchers. In addition to successfully securing more than $280 million in emergency assistance for Rio Grande Valley farmers and producers affected by the water shortage, he led a request earlier this year to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio asking for renewed efforts to push Mexico to comply with the 1944 Water Treaty while also securing Secretary Rubio’s commitment to hold Mexico accountable for delays.
    Last year, Sens. Cornyn and Cruz raised alarms after a Rio Grande sugarcane mill closed due to acute water shortages, cosponsored a resolution supporting diplomacy, and sent a letter to then-U.S. Secretary of State Blinken urging the Department to engage on Mexico’s violation of the intent of the treaty. Senator Cornyn also led a letter to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on State and Foreign Operations urging them to withhold designated funds from Mexico until they enter into an agreement with the U.S. to balance the deficit of the water deliveries, which the House Appropriations Committee included in their funding bill.
    Under the Treaty Relating to the Utilization of Waters of the Colorado and Tijuana Rivers and of the Rio Grande, Mexico is obligated to deliver an average of 350,000-acre feet of water annually over a five-year cycle as its contribution to the Rio Grande’s water supply. However, Mexico has consistently delayed fulfilling its water obligation until the end of the five-year cycle, which hinders South Texas farmers’ ability to plan for and grow crops as well as ranchers’ ability to provide water to livestock. The current cycle ends in October and so far, Mexico has paid less than 700,000 acre-feet of water — less than half of what it owes, according to IBWC data.

  • MIL-OSI United Nations: World News in Brief: Violence in Haiti, rising insecurity in DR Congo, expert panel on nuclear war

    Source: United Nations 2

    Displaced Haitians are dispersed among the 250 active displacement sites across the country, most of which are informal. Just over a fifth of these sites are managed by humanitarian organizations, meaning that many are living in precarious conditions.

    In June alone, more than 200 alerts were reported across displacement sites, over 80 per cent of which were related to essential needs such as lack of water, food, shelter or healthcare.

    OCHA noted that nearly 1.3 million people are now internally displaced in Haiti, the highest number ever recorded in the country due to violence.

    Constrained UN response

    The UN and partners have supported more than 113,000 displaced Haitians this year, providing essential services such as water, shelter, sanitation and healthcare.

    The humanitarian response is severely constrained by limited funding and persistent insecurity, hampering humanitarian access to the most affected areas and delaying the delivery of aid.

    Despite the challenges, the agency continues to work closely with Haitian authorities and humanitarian partners to coordinate relief efforts and mobilise additional resources to support displaced communities.

    DR Congo: Ongoing violence in the east drives displacement, impedes aid delivery

    Ongoing violence in North and South Kivu provinces in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) continues to claim the lives of civilians and to trigger new displacement.

    In North Kivu, UN partners on the ground in Rutshuru and Lubero territories reported that fighting between M23 and other armed groups was ongoing until Tuesday, resulting in eight civilian deaths and 42,500 displaced people as of earlier this week.

    Since early July, heavy clashes between M23 and other armed groups in South Kivu have also persisted, as local partners said the fighting has displaced at least 37,000 people from their homes.

    Aid access restrictions

    The surge in violence is making it harder for humanitarians to deliver assistance to vulnerable communities.

    While partners and teams on the ground are doing their best to maintain services for those affected, access restrictions and severe funding shortages pose significant obstacles.

    A humanitarian convoy coordinated by OCHA along the road between the provincial capital Bukavu and the city of Uvira, primarily planned for this Friday, has been postponed due to a lack of security guarantees on that route.

    Many UN partners on the ground are forced to scale back their operations, disrupting essential services for those in need.

    OCHA called on the international community to take urgent action to address these severe funding gaps and avert a humanitarian tragedy.

    New panel to examine the effects of a nuclear war

    The UN Secretary-General has appointed an independent scientific panel of 21 experts to examine the physical and societal consequences of a nuclear war on a local, regional and planetary scale in the days, weeks and decades following such an event.

    The creation of the panel, mandated by a General Assembly resolution, comes at a time when nuclear guardrails are being eroded and “the risk of nuclear war is higher than at any point since the depths of the Cold War,” UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said on Friday during the daily media briefing from Headquarters in New York.

    The panelists will seek input from a wide range of stakeholders – including international and regional organizations, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), civil society and affected communities.

    Members will hold their first meeting in September and will submit a final report to the General Assembly in 2027.

    SEATTLE, W.A. — U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Immigration, Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, issued the following statement regarding the reported deal between the United States, El Salvador, and Venezuela:

    “I am grateful that United States citizens held by the oppressive Maduro regime are finally able to come home and be reunited with their loved ones. Many of these Americans had been unjustly detained for years.

    “At the same time, I am outraged that President Trump and his administration continue to lie to the American people. For months, the Trump administration had been telling U.S. courts. They claimed that the individuals he had shipped off to El Salvador with no due process were under the complete control of the El Salvadoran government, and the administration had no ability to bring them back to the United States for their fair day in court.  Today’s announcement shows that it was false.

    “I am also devastated for the many Venezuelans who came to the U.S., who never committed a crime, and many of whom were fleeing persecution from the Maduro regime, are now being sent back into the hands of their persecutors.  These individuals, like Andry Hernandez Romero, were never able to present their asylum claim and were sent out of this country in violation of our constitution and our laws.

    “We will hold this administration accountable for its continued lawlessness.”

    Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23)

    “More than three decades after the tragic AMIA Jewish Center bombing, and there’s still no justice for the 85 victims, the hundreds of injured, and countless people who were traumatized by this attack,” said Wasserman Schultz. “With antisemitism skyrocketing around the world, this gruesome attack on Argentina’s thriving Jewish community cannot go unanswered. Congressmen Diaz-Balart, Espaillat, Gonzales, and I are all proud to honor the victims of this attack and keep up the vital pursuit of justice for their loved ones.”

    Washington, D.C. – This week, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25), Co-Chair of the Latino-Jewish Caucus, was joined by fellow Co-Chairs, Reps. Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) and Tony Gonzales (TX-23) in sponsoring a resolution to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires and demanding justice and accountability for those responsible for the attack.

    “Today, we honor and mourn the 85 innocent lives, overwhelmingly members of Argentina’s Jewish community, who were brutally murdered, and the more than 300 injured, in the deadliest antisemitic terrorist attack in Argentina’s history. On July 18, 1994, the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA) in Buenos Aires was targeted in an act of blatant antisemitism,” said Diaz-Balart. “I remain committed to demanding justice and accountability for the vile perpetrators of this crime, including Iran’s former Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi and other terrorists. We must never forget the victims, and we must continue to condemn the alarming rise of antisemitism wherever it appears and hold accountable those who engage in such heinous acts.”

    “As co-chair of the Latino-Jewish Congressional Caucus, I am proud to join my colleagues to reintroduce this resolution that recognizes the 31st anniversary of the attack on the AMIA in Buenos Aires, which was the deadliest terrorist attack in Argentine history,” said Espaillat. “Today’s bipartisan resolution demonstrates the Caucus’ commitment to ensuring justice for each of the victims as we embrace their families and loved ones. Terrorism and antisemitism have no place in our society, and the reintroduction of this legislation reaffirms our solidarity with the Jewish community in Argentina and around the world.”

    “31 years ago, 85 souls were taken from our world far too soon in the AMIA Jewish Center bombing in Buenos Aires. We will never forget the victims, their families, and all those touched by this horrific tragedy,” said Gonzales. “Now more than ever, America needs steady voices in Congress in the fight to eradicate antisemitism. As leaders of the Latino-Jewish Caucus, this is central to our mission.”

    “This week, Argentine and Jewish communities worldwide mark the 31st anniversary of the bombing of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) building in Buenos Aires, the deadliest antisemitic attack since the Holocaust until Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attack on Israel. For over three decades, American Jewish Committee (AJC) has persistently advocated for justice, urging Argentina to hold those responsible accountable. The AMIA bombing, carried out by Hezbollah operatives, is a reminder of the global threat posed by the Iranian regime and its proxies. We commend the co-chairs of the Latino-Jewish Congressional Caucus, Representatives Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL), Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), and Tony Gonzales (R-TX), for their leadership and steadfast commitment to advancing truth and justice, and for sustaining awareness of the Iranian regime’s continuous destabilizing activities around the world. Let this anniversary renew our commitment to ensure the victims are never forgotten, that justice is ultimately served, and that dangerous proxies can no longer sow terror across the globe,” said Dina Siegel Vann, Director, The Arthur and Rochelle Belfer Institute for Latino and Latin American Affairs, AJC.

    First established in 2011 with support from the American Jewish Committee, the bipartisan Latino-Jewish Congressional Caucus has cemented stronger bonds based on Latino and Jewish communities’ shared histories as immigrants and minorities. It has also been vocal in responding to the growing wave of antisemitism across the globe in the U.S. The 25-member Caucus is now led by Reps. Wasserman Schultz, Díaz-Balart, Espaillat, and Tony Gonzales. Last July, Rep. Wasserman Schultz joined a Congressional delegation to Buenos Aires to participate in the formal 30th anniversary commemoration of the AMIA attack.

    The text of House Resolution 597 can be found here and below:

    Condemning the attack on the Argentine Jewish Mutual Association Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in July 1994, and encouraging accountability

    for the attack.

    Whereas, 31 years ago, on July 18, 1994, 85 innocent people were killed and more than 300 were injured when the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA) was bombed in Buenos Aires, Argentina;

    Whereas at that time, the AMIA bombing was the deadliest attack on Jewish people outside Israel since the Holocaust;

    Whereas it is reported that considerable evidence links the attack to the terrorist group Hezbollah, which is based in Lebanon, and sponsored by Iran, a U.S.-designated state

    sponsor of terrorism since 1984;

    Whereas, two years earlier, Hezbollah operatives also blew up the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, killing 29 civilians and injuring 242;

    Whereas the 31 years since the bombing have been marred by a failure to bring those responsible, including Iran backed operatives and their Hezbollah proxies, to justice;

    Whereas, in September 2004, ten years after the attack, Alberto Nisman was appointed as the Special Prosecutor in charge of the 1994 AMIA bombing investigation;

    Whereas, in October 2006, Argentine prosecutors Alberto Nisman and Marcelo Martinez Burgos formally accused the Iranian regime of directing the bombing, and the Hezbollah militia of carrying it out;

    Whereas the Argentine prosecutors charged Iranian nationals as suspects in the AMIA bombing, including—

    (1) Ali Fallahijan, Iran’s former intelligence minister;

    (2) Mohsen Rabbani, Iran’s former cultural attache´ in Buenos Aires;

    (3) Ahmad Reza Asghari, a former Iranian diplomat posted to Argentina;

    (5) Ali Akbar Velayati, Iran’s former foreign minister; (6) Mohsen Rezaee, former chief commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps;

    (7) Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, former President of Iran; and

    (8) Hadi Soleimanpour, former Iranian ambassador to Argentina;

    Whereas Ibrahim Hussein Berro, a member of the terrorist group Hezbollah, was identified as the AMIA bomber;

    Whereas, in November 2006, an Argentine judge issued arrest warrants for 8 Iranian nationals, including high ranking regime and military operatives, and one Lebanese national, who were named as suspects in the AMIA bombing;

    Whereas, in November 2007, INTERPOL voted to put the following suspects in the 1994 AMIA attack on its most wanted list—Ali Fallahijan, Mohsen Rabbani, Ahmad Reza Asghari, Ahmad Vahidi, Mohsen Razaee from Iran, and Imad Fayez Moughnieh from Lebanon;

    Whereas INTERPOL currently has three red alerts in place in relation to the AMIA attack ;

    Whereas, on January 13, 2015, prosecutor Alberto Nisman alleged in a complaint that then-Argentinian President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and then-Minister of Foreign Relations Hector Timerman conspired to cover up Iranian involvement in the 1994 terrorist bombing, and reportedly agreed to negotiate immunity for Iranian suspects and help get their names removed from the INTERPOL list;

    Whereas prosecutor Alberto Nisman was scheduled to present his new findings to the Argentinian Congress on January 19, 2015;

    Whereas prosecutor Alberto Nisman was found shot in the head in his apartment in Buenos Aires on January 18, 2015;

    Whereas the investigation of the AMIA bombing has been marked by judicial misconduct and undue influence;

    Whereas, to date, no one has been brought to justice for the 1992 bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Argentina, the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, or the death of Argentine prosecutor Alberto Nisman;

    Whereas former Federal judge Juan Jose Galeano and former State Intelligence Secretariat intelligence head Hugo Anzorreguy have both been convicted and sentenced to prison for subverting the investigation and concealing evidence;

    Whereas, in 2019, the Argentine Government declared Hezbollah a terrorist organization, expelled all members of the organization from the country, and froze their assets in Argentina;

    Whereas, in 2020, Argentine President Alberto Fernandez reaffirmed the commitment of the Argentine Republic to bring those responsible for the attack to justice;

    Whereas, on April 12th, 2024, Argentina’s highest criminal court, the Argentine Court of Cassation, broke the extended silence of the justice system by affirming Iran’s responsibility for the deadly bombing and declaring it a ‘‘crime against humanity’’;

    Whereas according to news reports of the ruling, the court identified ‘‘top Iranian officials and paramilitary Revolutionary Guard commanders in its determination that Iran carried out the bombings in response to Argentina scrapping three contracts that would have provided Tehran with nuclear technology in the mid-1980s’’;

    Whereas Argentine President Javier Milei commended the high court’s ruling, noting that the determination was a ‘‘significant step’’ that put an end to decades of ‘‘delays and cover-ups’’;

    Whereas leaders in Argentina’s Jewish community, including AMIA President Amos Linetzky, noted that the historic ruling would finally provide an opportunity for survivors and relatives of victims to seek legal action against Iran;

    Whereas the Foreign Ministry of Argentina responded to the court’s ruling by requesting that INTERPOL issue an immediate international arrest notice for Ahmad Vahidi, who is now the Iranian Interior Minister, ‘‘as one of those responsible for the attack on AMIA’’

    Whereas, in March 2025, Argentina passed Law No. 27.784, which allows trial in absentia, opening the door for prosecuting foreign suspects not present in the country;

    Whereas, in April 2025, AMIA special prosecutor Sebastia´n Basso requested both national and international arrest warrants for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei under the authority of Law No. 27.784;

    Whereas, on June 26, 2025, Federal Judge Daniel Rafecas ruled that a trial in absentia would be held for the 10 men accused of planning and ordering the terrorist attack on the AMIA; and

    Whereas, today, Argentina is home to more than 250,000 Jewish people, making it the largest home to Jews in Latin America and the 6th largest in the world:

    Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives—

    (1) condemns the 1994 attack on the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and remembers the victims of this heinous act;

    (2) honors the memory of the victims and expresses sympathy to their relatives, who have waited for more than 3 decades without justice for the loss of their loved ones;

    (3) underscores the concern of the United States regarding the continuing delay in the proper resolution of this case;

    (4) calls for the perpetrators of this horrific act, including Iranian and Hezbollah operatives, to be held accountable for their crimes;

    (5) commends the Government of Argentina for designating Hezbollah and Hamas as terrorist organizations and urges other United States allies and partners in Latin America and the Caribbean to do the same;

    (6) demands that INTERPOL member countries comply with arrest orders for individuals responsible for the deadly attack on the AMIA Jewish Community Center; and

    (7) stands in solidarity with the Jewish community of Argentina and the broader Latin American and Caribbean Jewish diaspora at a time of surging antisemitism around the world.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Fort Lauderdale Investment Advisor Arrested on Federal Wire Fraud and Money Laundering Charges in Multi-Million-Dollar Ponzi Scheme Targeting Venezuelan Investors

    Source: Office of United States Attorneys

    MIAMI – Federal authorities have arrested Andrew Hamilton Jacobus, 64, of Fort Lauderdale, on charges of wire fraud and money laundering stemming from a years-long scheme that defrauded international investors — primarily Venezuelan nationals — of more than $94 million.

    According to an indictment in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Jacobus falsely portrayed himself as a seasoned financial advisor managing legitimate investment portfolios, while instead misappropriating investor funds for personal use and to pay returns to earlier investors — in classic Ponzi fashion.

    Between 2019 and 2023, Jacobus allegedly solicited funds through entities under his control, including Kronus Financial Corporation, and Finser International, promising access to secure investment products and high-yield returns. Federal prosecutors allege Jacobus forged account statements, falsified documentation, and diverted client funds to luxury personal expenditures and unrelated business ventures.

    Jacobus was taken into custody by federal agents without incident in Fort Lauderdale. He made his initial appearance in federal court. If convicted, Jacobus faces up to 20 years in prison for each count of wire fraud and money laundering, in addition to forfeiture of assets and restitution.

    U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida and Special Agent in Charge Emmanuel Gomez of the IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI), Miami Field Office, made the announcement.

    The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert F. Moore.

  • MIL-OSI USA: BABIN VOTES TO RESCIND $9.4 BILLION IN WASTEFUL SPENDING

    Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Brian Babin (R-TX)

    Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on H.R. 4, the Rescissions Act of 2025, a major step in House Republicans’ ongoing mission to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse from the bloated federal bureaucracy. The bill, based on recommendations from President Trump and the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), rescinds $9.4 billion in previously appropriated funds deemed unnecessary or wasteful.

    Americans work hard for their money. They deserve a government that works just as hard to spend it wisely,” said Rep. Babin. “This rescissions package is a critical step in getting our government back on track and putting America First. This bill reflects our commitment to Promises Made, Promises Kept. It’s just the first tranche in our broader strategy—alongside the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the appropriations process—to restore fiscal sanity in Washington and prioritize the needs of the American people.”

    The rescinded funds span 21 budget line items across numerous agencies, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and the United States Institute of Peace.

    Examples of spending being cut include:

    ·       $5 million to subsidize green energy in Europe.

    ·       $1 million for Voter ID in Haiti, while Democrats block it here at home.

    ·       $18 million for “gender diversity” in the Mexican street lighting industry.

    ·       $3 million to promote abortion in Venezuela.

    ·       $135 million in contributions to the World Health Organization.
