  • MIL-OSI USA: Senator Coons, Young, colleagues introduce bipartisan, bicameral bill to strengthen U.S. role in mapping global critical mineral resources

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for Delaware Christopher Coons
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Chris Coons (D-Del.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) introduced The Finding Opportunities for Resource Exploration (Finding ORE) Act to strengthen U.S. mineral security and reduce strategic vulnerabilities. Representatives Rob Wittman (R-Va.) and Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) will introduce a companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Critical minerals are essential to producing technologies for the defense, semiconductor, automotive, and energy sectors—industries that will determine America’s economic future and global influence. Although we have an abundance of domestic mineral resources, demand already outstrips this supply. We must work with allies and partners to achieve mineral security.  Additionally, the U.S. is heavily dependent on China for production and processing of many key critical minerals. This bill would leverage the strengths of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in geological mapping of critical mineral reserves while giving U.S. firms a leg up in responsibly developing global mineral resources around the world.
“From the technology that powers the cell phones in our pockets to the systems that keep us safe, Americans depend on critical minerals for our economic strength and national security,” said Senator Coons. “The Finding ORE Act makes sure that our nation will have access to the essential materials we need to keep innovating, growing our economy, and deterring our enemies. I’m grateful for the bipartisan and industry support this bill has received and look forward to pushing for its enactment.”
“Many countries are unmapped or reliant on outdated geological surveys. Our bill would create opportunities for collaboration between the United States and these countries to update geological mapping with the goal of locating critical mineral deposits. These partnerships would be mutually beneficial and provide the United States access to more critical minerals, reducing our dependence on China,” said Senator Todd Young.
“We can’t solve climate change or strengthen national security without harnessing the power of critical minerals,” said Senator Hickenlooper. “Better and more accurate maps will help us and our allies safely and ethically explore untapped critical mineral deposits.”
“Access to a reliable supply chain of critical minerals is essential to meet our nation’s defense, manufacturing, and energy needs,” said Senator Cornyn. “By shoring up alliances with trusted allies and promoting geological mapping of critical mineral reserves, this legislation would ensure America has the resources needed to keep up with global demand and bolster both our mineral security and national security in the years ahead.”
“Critical minerals and rare earth elements are the building blocks of our modern economy and our national security,” said Representative Wittman. “This bill ensures that the United States can work hand-in-hand with like-minded nations to identify and responsibly develop these essential resources, while strengthening supply chain resilience and promoting American leadership in mineral exploration. Through this bill, we are reinforcing our alliances, building technical capacity, and supporting global standards in responsible mineral development. I’m proud to introduce the Finding ORE Act as a forward-looking solution to this pressing global challenge.”
“America’s dependence on adversarial nations for critical minerals poses a significant threat to our national security and our clean energy future,” said Representative Castor. “The Finding ORE Act leverages our expertise in geologic mapping to promote the sustainable development of critical mineral supply chains through international partnerships. This legislation will make our nation safer and stronger while supporting our strategic alliances. I’m grateful to my bipartisan colleagues for working together to enhance U.S. leadership in the clean energy transition.”
“The United States has too often watched from the sidelines as our adversaries explored, invested in, and secured the world’s most promising mineral deposits,” said Abigail Hunter, Executive Director of SAFE’s Center for Critical Minerals Strategy. “This bill changes that. It positions the United States—our geological experts and industry—to help identify and potentially develop the next generation of great deposits. It ensures we show up in resource-rich nations, rather than leaving them to deepen their ties with China.”
“The American Critical Minerals Association welcomes the bipartisan, bicameral introduction of the Finding ORE Act by Senators Coons, Young, Hickenlooper, and Cornyn and Representatives Wittman and Castor,” said Sarah Venuto, Executive Director of ACMA. “Expanding our knowledge base of global minerals resources and growing partnerships with our allies will ensure the United States is a leading force in resourcing critical minerals in a responsible way. ACMA looks forward to working with Senator Coons and his colleagues to advance the Finding ORE Act.”
“Colorado School of Mines commends Senators Coons, Young, Hickenlooper, and Cornyn and Reps. Wittman and Castor for their bipartisan efforts to leverage U.S. expertise in mineral mapping to support safe, secure, and responsible mineral supply chains,” said Dr. John Bradford, Vice President for Global Initiatives at Colorado School of Mines. “When called upon to contribute, institutions with strong partnerships with USGS, like Colorado School of Mines, seek to support America’s government and industry partners to advance the technology, knowledge, and workforce required to responsibly identify, assess, and produce mineral resources in the U.S. and around the world.”
“BPC Action applauds the bipartisan introduction of the Finding ORE Act. The bill will strengthen U.S. supply chain security by enhancing coordination with allies on critical mineral development, helping secure new critical minerals sources free from adversary control,” said Michele Stockwell, president of Bipartisan Policy Center Action (BPC Action).
“Terra AI celebrates this forward-thinking, bi-partisan critical minerals exploration legislation introduced by Senators Coons, Young, Hickenlooper, and Cornyn and Reps. Wittman and Castor,” said John Mern, CEO of Terra AI. “The Finding ORE Act would empower America’s agencies and private firms to explore and claim the next major deposits of critical minerals which will supply our industries for decades to come; supporting manufacturing, aerospace, energy, and artificial intelligence. We support this act’s unique approach to winning the critical minerals race by leveraging America and Her Allies’ relative advantages — strong diplomatic relations, world-leading technology, and entrepreneurial spirit. This act is the essential early stage first step to establishing US global mineral dominance and winning this generational opportunity. As a mineral exploration AI company, we see huge value in collaboration between the private sector and our nation’s diplomatic, geologic and financial agencies abroad. It is a winning playbook, and we look forward to seeing more legislation in this area.”
The Finding ORE Act would authorize the Director of USGS to enter into memoranda of understanding (MOU) with foreign partner countries related to mapping of critical minerals. The bill identifies four objectives for these MOU:
Committing USGS to assist the partner country with a range of critical mineral mapping activities
Committing the partner country to offer a right of first refusal to private companies based in the United States or an allied country in the further development of mapped critical minerals
Facilitating investment in the development of critical minerals in the partner country, including by leveraging financing from the U.S. Development Finance Corporation and Export-Import Bank
Ensuring that mapping data created through partnership with USGS is not disclosed to governmental or private entities in non-allied countries
The bill requires USGS to collaborate with both the State Department and the private sector in identifying which countries to prioritize for negotiation of an MOU and would involve the State Department in the negotiation and implementation process.
A one-pager on the bill is available here.
The full text of the bill is available here.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Tuberville, Ricketts Fight for American Technology Dominance

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for Alabama Tommy Tuberville

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) joined U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) in sending a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick regarding the Biden administration’s AI Diffusion Rule (AIDR). The letter calls on President Trump’s administration to withdraw Biden’s overly restrictive rule and propose an alternative that is effective in preventing Communist China from capturing the world market in leading technology.

“We applaud President Trump’s commitment to ensuring American dominance in the tech sector,” the senators write. “Today, we are in an enviable position: American companies dominate in crucial areas that will define tomorrow’s economy including semiconductor design, compute infrastructure, and artificial intelligence (AI). This leadership position has been hard fought. Maintaining and growing our tech lead requires diligently advancing an American-led, global ecosystem around the world.”

“With the compliance deadline of May 15, 2025, rapidly approaching, immediate action is necessary to prevent irreversible damage to American innovation and competitiveness,” the senators continue. “Every day this rule remains in place, American companies face mounting uncertainty, stalled investments, and the risk of losing critical global partnerships that cannot be easily regained. Therefore, we urge you to withdraw this rule and propose an alternative that is effective in preventing Communist China from capturing the world market in a leading technology without compromising American advantages.”

Sens. Tuberville and Ricketts were joined by Sens. Ted Budd (R-NC), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Roger Wicker (R-MS) in signing the letter.

Read full text of the letter below or here.

    “Dear Secretary Lutnick:

We applaud President Trump’s commitment to ensuring American dominance in the tech sector. Today, we are in an enviable position: American companies dominate in crucial areas that will define tomorrow’s economy including semiconductor design, compute infrastructure, and artificial intelligence (AI). This leadership position has been hard fought. Maintaining and growing our tech lead requires diligently advancing an American-led, global ecosystem around the world.

Concerningly, President Biden’s recently issued Artificial Intelligence Diffusion Rule

(AIDR) threatens to undermine this leadership and advancement. Among other things, the rule categorizes countries into three tiers, imposing complex restrictions on the purchase of U.S. technology. Only Tier 1 countries—limited to just 18 nations—would have access to American technology. Even these 18 would only have access if they comply with a burdensome and ever-evolving set of federal regulations. The vast majority of nations fall into Tier 2. These countries face arbitrary purchase limits and a cumbersome licensing process to acquire U.S. computing technologies. Strikingly, key allies and partners like Israel have been inexplicably excluded from the top tier and placed into Tier 2. Tier 3 countries, including Communist China, are already rightly restricted.

While the AIDR claims to provide secure ecosystems for the responsible diffusion of AI, this rushed midnight rule’s impact and overly broad scope will result in consequences that divorce it from its intent. Fundamentally, the rule places burdensome constraints on U.S. companies that would be difficult to comply with and even harder for the Federal government to enforce. Buyers, particularly in Tier 2 countries that are constrained from purchasing U.S. technology, would be incentivized to turn to Communist China’s unregulated, cheap substitutes. Additionally, technology companies in Tier 2 countries could be motivated to create their own AI technology stack that is outside our export control regime. Neither outcome furthers our nation’s long-term economic and national security goals.

With the compliance deadline of May 15, 2025, rapidly approaching, immediate action is necessary to prevent irreversible damage to American innovation and competitiveness. Every day this rule remains in place, American companies face mounting uncertainty, stalled investments, and the risk of losing critical global partnerships that cannot be easily regained. Therefore, we urge you to withdraw this rule and propose an alternative that is effective in preventing Communist China from capturing the world market in a leading technology without compromising American advantages.

    Sincerely,”

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, HELP and Aging Committees.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Denis Manturov held the 13th meeting of the Russian-Indonesian Joint Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

Source: Government of the Russian Federation – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov and Minister Coordinating for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto held the 13th meeting of the Russian-Indonesian Joint Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation. Its participants considered a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, industry, investment, transport and energy, as well as science, education and culture.

Despite global challenges, bilateral trade between Russia and Indonesia is showing positive dynamics. Over the past five years, mutual trade turnover has grown by more than 80% (to $4.3 billion by the end of 2024), and last year Indonesia was among Russia’s three leading foreign trade partners in ASEAN. “At the same time, the potential for economic cooperation is much broader. This was confirmed, among other things, by the Russian-Indonesian business forum held yesterday in Jakarta. Business circles are demonstrating practical interest in developing mutually beneficial cooperation. Given the success of the format, I propose to continue the practice of combining such business events with commission meetings. I also consider it necessary to encourage the participation of Russian and Indonesian companies in major congress and exhibition events held in our countries,” Denis Manturov noted.

The business dialogue between Russia and Indonesia contributes to the diversification of the trade structure. Thus, along with fuel and energy products, the export of food and mineral fertilizers is growing. In 2023, deliveries of Russian wheat resumed. “We expect to begin shipping meat products that will meet halal standards in the near future. We see opportunities for developing the export of forestry and metallurgy products,” the First Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

The conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement between the EAEU and Indonesia, as well as the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters will allow further increase in trade turnover and simplify procedures for mutual access of goods to markets. Denis Manturov also emphasized the importance of ensuring uninterrupted mutual settlements.

Special attention at the meeting was paid to the development of cooperation in the field of digital technologies. Domestic companies are ready to implement their own developments in the field of information security, artificial intelligence and smart city technologies in Indonesia. The First Deputy Prime Minister also confirmed readiness for dialogue on projects in the space industry, including technologies for remote sensing of the Earth, satellite navigation, manned spaceflight and personnel training.

Cooperation in the spheres of culture, education, tourism and sports is developing successfully. Speaking about strengthening partnership relations in the media, Denis Manturov welcomed the plans of the Russia Today TV channel to jointly produce news content in Indonesian for local channels, which will allow objective coverage of both the Russian-Indonesian agenda and global events in the interests of the audience of our countries.

Following the event, a final protocol was signed, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between Rosakcreditatsiya and the Indonesian Halal Product Quality Assurance Agency, which is aimed at improving the conditions for access of halal products to the Indonesian market. In addition, an Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Improving Quality and Business Excellence was signed between Roskachestvo and the Indonesian Association for Quality and Productivity Management, as well as an Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Sports between the Russian National Badminton Federation and the Indonesian Badminton Association.

  • MIL-OSI: Ex-Tesla Operations Leaders Launch Atomic, Raise $3M Seed to Revolutionize Supply Chain Planning with Agentic AI

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

NEW YORK, April 15, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Atomic, an AI-powered platform reshaping the $20 billion supply chain planning market, today announced that it closed a $3 million seed round. The round included DVx Ventures, the company creation platform run by former Tesla president Jon McNeill, and Madrona Ventures, a three-decade-old venture capital firm known for backing transformative AI startups and iconic companies like Amazon, Snowflake, and Smartsheet.

Atomic was founded by Michael Rossiter and Neal Suidan, who experienced the challenges of supply chain planning first-hand as leaders in Tesla’s supply chain and demand planning team. The inspiration came during Tesla’s Model 3 launch in 2018, when they realized how dependent the team was on unwieldy spreadsheets that could not keep up with the speed of changes at the business. The necessities of scaling led them to build Tesla’s end-to-end supply chain orchestration system from scratch. With Atomic, the team set out to solve the same challenges of supply planning for all companies that sell physical goods with an approach that can be rapidly deployed and generalized to any type of supply chain.

“Our vision is to ensure every physical good is actively managed,” said Neal Suidan, Founder and CEO, Atomic. “Planners are the unsung heroes of consumer brands, holding together supply chains through spreadsheets and sheer force of will. But they deserve better tools. We built Atomic to be the inventory planning system we always wished we had. With the support of DVx and Madrona, we’re scaling quickly to bring this technology to more brands, helping them move beyond spreadsheets and into the future of AI-powered inventory management.

    I’m Sick of this Sheet!
Trillions of dollars are tied up in slow-moving and poorly planned inventories in the U.S. alone. The vast majority of inventory decisions — even at the largest companies — are still made using spreadsheets, which are error-prone and slow to update, and difficult to scale. This leads to missed sales, bloated inventory levels, and eroded confidence in supply chain operations.

Existing supply chain planning software often forces lengthy, high-cost implementations and rigid systems that drive planners back to spreadsheets.

“What Atomic is doing reminds me of Tesla’s approach to breaking down barriers – taking something slow and inefficient and replacing it with speed and intelligence,” said Jon McNeill, former Tesla President and Founder of DVx Ventures. “By leveraging agentic AI, they are building this incredible, agile system that can be set up in under an hour and is truly a game-changer for consumer brands.”

    Proven Results for Clients
Since launching its product in early 2024, Atomic has delivered measurable results for early customers in consumer packaged goods, food & beverage, and apparel, with:

    • 20-50% reduction in inventory costs while improving in-stock rates
    • 40+ hours saved per week, allowing planners to focus on high-impact work
    • 3.5x increase in inventory turnover, translating to millions in freed-up cash

Atomic’s simulation engine models supply and demand at the transaction level, giving planners complete transparency and the ability to adapt workflows on the fly. One Atomic customer cut its inventory levels in half while maintaining a 99% in-stock rate – just 3 months after onboarding.

“We reduced our working capital by millions. It changed our strategy to fund the business this year” said that company’s President.

“Atomic is the one SaaS tool that is open all day, every day on my laptop,” said the SVP of Operations at another Atomic client, where Atomic helped to improve in-stock rates by over 10 percentage points. “I can’t do my job well without it.”

    AI-Powered Supply Chain Control
Unlike most planning software that requires costly integrations and lengthy implementations, Atomic is using agentic AI to flip the script. Its configurable framework form fits to client data sources without requiring system integrators or manual configurations. Within an hour, Atomic clients can be initially onboarded and begin fine-tuning forecasts, simulate disruptions, and make adjustments through an intuitive, no-code interface.

“We’ve personally grappled with the pain of supply planning as operators,” said Michael Rossiter, Founder of Atomic and Principal at DVx Ventures. “Planners shouldn’t have to waste time wrangling spreadsheets and Atomic frees them up to make strategic decisions from day one. When you’re drowning, you don’t want swim lessons – you need help immediately. So we made onboarding speed our top priority.”

    Strategic Backing from Industry Leaders
Madrona, an early backer of Amazon, Snowflake, and Smartsheet, invested in Atomic through Fund X, a new initiative focused on applied AI for enterprise transformation.

“Atomic has keen insight into a huge business challenge—and is solving it with AI to deliver tangible, immediate results that would be otherwise impossible,” said Matt McIlwain, Managing Director at Madrona. “This is exactly the kind of applied AI innovation poised to transform the industry.”

    What’s Next For Atomic
With this funding, Atomic plans to expand its engineering team, enhance AI capabilities, and deepen its integrations with leading ERP and e-commerce platforms. The company is targeting to offer Rapid Onboarding for NetSuite clients by the end of 2025, removing the last friction points to enterprise adoption.

Google continues positive momentum in team collaboration, says GlobalData

    Posted in Technology

As part of Google Cloud Next ’25, Google explored enhancements coming to Google Workspace, its team collaboration platform. The enhancements are fueled by Gemini, Google’s most capable set of large language models (LLMs) ever. They incorporate both generative AI and agentic AI, the latest AI advancement, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

Gregg Willsky, Principal Analyst, Enterprise Technology & Services at GlobalData, comments: “Google and its rivals have aggressively been circulating AI features across their platforms. Up until very recently, those additions were steeped in generative AI. It seems almost out of nowhere, competitors are now touting agentic AI capabilities as well.”

Google is no exception. Agentic AI is the engine behind Google Workspace Flows, currently available in alpha. The capability automates multi-step processes using AI that can research, analyze, and consider context; for example, approving a request upon reviewing documents, which reflect an organization’s policies.

Willsky continues: “In addition to its new agentic AI capability, Google announced impressive features based on generative AI. ‘Help me refine’ in Google Docs will be available in alpha later this quarter and offers suggestions for strengthening written communication. When it becomes available later this year, ‘Help me analyze’ in Google Sheets will highlight interesting trends in users’ data. Gemini in Meet, arriving later in Q2 2025, helps attendees catch up on what they missed, get clarity around specific topics or discussions, or organize their thoughts and sharpen arguments before entering a discussion.”

Most pronounced about the unveiled features are their overall quality and the positive continued momentum they represent for Google in the team collaboration space.

Willsky concludes: “Given Google’s position as a pioneer and leader in AI, there is no doubt the momentum will continue. The Gemini set of LLM’s provides Google Workspace with powerful AI capabilities and Google with differentiation from rivals’ ‘flavors’ of AI.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Cammack Leads The Charge & Secures Department of Commerce’s Withdrawal From 2019 Suspension Agreement On Fresh Tomatoes From Mexico

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL-03)

GAINESVILLE, FL — This morning, Congresswoman Kat Cammack issued the following statement about the U.S. Department of Commerce’s announcement of its intent to withdraw from the 2019 Agreement Suspending the Antidumping Investigation on Fresh Tomatoes from Mexico, with termination effective in 90 days.

“This has been a priority of ours for years in Florida,” said Rep. Kat Cammack. “For half a decade now, our producers have been subject to an unfair marketplace. In the past five years alone, Mexican tomato producers have violated the suspension agreement over 100 times. The economic impact of these violations has been catastrophic on our domestic tomato producers.”

“I’ve long been a champion of free but fair trade. Since the beginning of 2000 we have dropped from 250 producers to just 25. I’m grateful the Trump administration is working so hard to enforce international U.S. trade laws, and I know our tomato producers in Florida will be relieved to once more have a level playing field. As the only Florida Member on the House Agriculture Committee, I’m proud to work on behalf of our farmers, ranchers, and producers to deliver the support they deserve and keep their industry alive. Food security is national security which is why ensuring our producers are protected from unfair trade practices is critical,” Rep. Cammack added.

The Department of Commerce currently maintains 734 antidumping and countervailing duty orders which provide relief to American companies and industries impacted by unfair trade. These duty orders provide American workers with a mechanism to seek relief from harmful unfair pricing of imports.

“A great injustice to our Florida tomato producers has finally been addressed,” said Jeb Smith, President of the Florida Farm Bureau. “Thank you to Congresswoman Cammack for heeding the pleas of our growers and leading the charge. Many thanks to Secretary Lutnick, Secretary Rollins, and others in this administration for acting. For decades our farmers have simply sought strict enforcement of U.S. trade law, including the 2019 Tomato Suspension Agreement. At last, we are witnessing such. With the institution of the antidumping duty order resulting in duties of 20.91 percent on most imports of tomatoes from Mexico, fair trade could be attainable. It is an exciting day for tomato growers in the Sunshine State and the broader produce industry!”

“For decades, unfair foreign trade practices have taken their toll on U.S. growers of fresh fruits and vegetables,” said Mike Joyner, president of the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association. “The termination of the 2019 Tomato Suspension Agreement is a positive step toward helping tomato growers compete on a level playing field and ensure American consumers are not forced to rely on foreign sources for fresh fruits and vegetables. We sincerely appreciate the support and efforts of this administration and Congresswoman Cammack for effectively implementing U.S. trade laws and protecting domestic tomato growers.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: MAINE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION REMINDS GAS AND ELECTRIC UTILITY CUSTOMERS OF RIGHTS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS AS WINTER DISCONNECT PROTECTION PERIOD ENDS

    Source: US State of Maine

    April 15, 2025

Hallowell, Maine– The Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) is reminding Maine gas and electric consumers that the winter disconnection protection period ends on April 15, 2025. Beginning on this date, utilities may resume disconnection activities for residential customers for nonpayment without prior approval from the Commission’s Consumer Assistance and Safety Division (CASD).

From November 15 through April 15, electric and gas utilities are prohibited from disconnecting residential customers without express permission from the CASD, to ensure consumer protections during the coldest months of the year. However, beginning April 15 through mid-November, utilities are not required to seek CASD approval before proceeding with disconnection. They are, however, still required to follow Commission rules governing timely disconnection notices and procedures prior to terminating utility service.

“This has been a challenging year for many Mainers due to continued high inflation and rising costs,” said Commission Chair Philip L. Bartlett II. We want to ensure consumers know that help is available to manage utility bills and avoid disconnection. The Commission strongly encourages anyone struggling to pay their bills to reach out for assistance.

The PUC urges consumers to visit www.MaineElectricHelp.com for a list of state and local programs that can help households pay for utilities and reduce overall utility costs. These programs include fuel assistance, weatherization services, and arrearage management programs offered in partnership with utilities.

If customers are unable to reach an agreeable payment arrangement directly with their utility, they are encouraged to contact the CASD. The CASD can work with both the utility and the customer to help establish a reasonable and affordable payment arrangement.

Customers can reach the CASD at 1-800-452-4699 (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

    For more information, visit www.maine.gov/mpuc.

    About the Commission

The Maine Public Utilities Commission regulates electric, telephone, water and gas utilities to ensure that Maine citizens have access to safe and reliable utility service at rates that are just and reasonable for ratepayers and utilities, while also helping achieve reductions in state greenhouse gas emissions. Commission programs include Maine Enhanced 911 Service and safety programs. Philip L. Bartlett II serves as Chair, Patrick Scully and Carolyn Gilbert serve as Commissioners.

  • MIL-OSI: Sidetrade reported a 22% increase in Revenue for Q1 2025, including a 26% rise in SaaS subscription.

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

Robust bookings despite a challenging macroeconomic environment

€2.77 million in Annual Contract Value (ACV) in Q1 2025

    • Including €1.28 million in new SaaS bookings (ARR)
    • And €1.49 million in Services bookings

Solid revenue growth of +22%, driven by a +26% increase in SaaS subscriptions, reflecting strong recurring revenue momentum

Double-digit sales growth confirmed for 2025, despite ongoing market uncertainty

Sidetrade, the global leader in AI-powered Order-to-Cash applications, today announces €2.77 million in bookings for the first quarter of 2025, along with revenue growth of +22%, including a +26% increase in SaaS subscriptions.

Olivier Novasque, CEO of Sidetrade commented:

“While the start of the year has been shaped by an uncertain economic climate—particularly in the United States—we continue to deliver double-digit revenue growth quarter after quarter. In Q1, we commend the strong performance of our European bookings, reflecting solid commercial momentum among existing clients. This was driven by the adoption of new product modules and geographic expansion into new countries. This expansion within our installed base effectively offset the more cautious stance of decision-makers in the US market. Achieving a near-perfect balance (50/50) in our development model over the past three years—between bookings from Europe versus the United States on one hand, and new customer sales versus existing customer upsell on the other—has equipped us with the resilience to navigate more turbulent periods when one of these components temporarily falters. Looking ahead across all four quarters of fiscal year 2025, we are confident in our ability to maintain this equilibrium. Regarding Q1 revenue, our record bookings in 2024, combined with a revenue recurrence rate exceeding 90% and the contribution from SHS Viveon, has enabled us to achieve a strong growth of +22%, continuing the momentum from our standout 2024 performance.”

€2.77 million in Annual Contract Value (ACV) in Q1 2025
In the first quarter of 2025, Sidetrade delivered a solid performance, recording €2.77 million in Annual Contract Value (ACV) from new signed contracts, compared to €3.98 million in Q1 2024. It is important to note that Q1 2024 represented an exceptionally high comparison base, with triple-digit growth of +117%, nearing the Company’s all-time record of €4.1 million. While Q1 2025 marks a year-over-year decline of 30% against this particularly strong prior-year quarter, the performance remains robust in absolute terms and significantly exceeds the €1.83 million recorded in Q1 2023, representing a +51% increase over that period.

During the quarter, strong performance in Europe—driven by existing customers and accounting for nearly 90% of total bookings—more than offset a more mixed performance in the United States. This European momentum was supported by the successful commercialization of new product modules, including CashApps and Augmented Invoice, the latter being dedicated to electronic invoicing. In North America, bookings contributed 15% of Q1 2025 total bookings. The region faced a more cautious investment environment, as key decision-makers adopted a wait-and-see approach regarding new project commitments.

In addition, new SaaS bookings (New ARR) totaled €1.28 million, compared to €1.85 million in Q1 2024, while Services bookings totaled €1.49 million versus €2.13 million in Q1 2024.

Sidetrade’s development model—balanced between North America and Europe, and between new customer acquisitions and upsells to the existing client base—provides the Company with strong resilience against short-term market imbalances. This quarter, solid expansion sales in Europe among existing customers ultimately enabled the Company to deliver a robust overall performance, despite a more challenging macroeconomic environment in the US.

Solid revenue growth of +22%, driven by a +26% increase in SaaS subscriptions, reflecting strong recurring revenue momentum

    Sidetrade

    (€m)

    Q1 2025 Q1 2024 Change
    SaaS Subscriptions 12.1 (1) 9.6 +26%
    Revenue 14.3 (2) 11.8 +22%

All the 2025 information in this financial release is from consolidated, unaudited data.
    (1) includes €1.35 million in recurring revenue from SHS Viveon
    (2) includes €1.90 million in total revenue from SHS Viveon

Sidetrade recorded a very strong start to fiscal year 2025, posting revenue of €14.3 million for the first quarter, representing year-over-year growth of +22%.

SaaS subscriptions reached €12.1 million in Q1 2025, reflecting year-over-year growth of 26%, including +12% on a like-for-like basis (excluding the integration of SHS Viveon). This sustained pace underscores the effectiveness of Sidetrade’s SaaS business model and its ability to efficiently convert bookings into recognized revenue.

In the first quarter of 2025, Services revenue posted modest growth of +3%, reaching €2.2 million. On a like-for-like basis (excluding the impact of SHS Viveon), this represents a decline of -20%. This trend reflects a lower volume of new large-scale projects and more limited-service engagements related to SaaS subscriptions among existing clients.

Sidetrade continued to expand its footprint with large multinationals. In Q1 2025, subscriptions from companies generating over €2.5 billion in annual revenue grew by 44%. For the first time, contracts from these large enterprises accounted for more than half of Sidetrade’s total subscription revenue, representing 53% of the total—underscoring the Company’s increasingly strong positioning within the large enterprise segment. This momentum is expected to remain a key growth driver in the coming quarters.

The integration of SHS Viveon’s operations (effective as of July 1, 2024) contributed €1.9 million to Sidetrade’s revenue in the first quarter of 2025, accounting for 13% of the total quarterly revenue.

It is important to note that all of Sidetrade’s multi-year contracts are systematically indexed to inflation—using the Syntec index for Southern Europe, the UK Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Northern Europe, and the U.S. CPI for the United States. This mechanism ensures that annual price adjustments are applied automatically to SaaS subscription fees in line with inflation trends, without the need to wait for contract renewal.

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Implementation of artificial intelligence in the organization: what effects do employees note

    Translartion. Region: Russians Fedetion –

Source: State University Higher School of Economics – State University Higher School of Economics –

“The impact of AI on the labor market is a relevant topic that has been little studied in Russia. In our study, we used unique data from a survey of AI-using organizations, allowing us to analyze the effects of AI implementation taking into account the characteristics of organizations and the parameters for implementing these technologies,” the authors note.

Overall, the implementation of AI technologies has resulted in an increase in the quality of products or services (in 54.3% of user organizations), an increase in the efficiency of business processes (51%), and labor productivity (45%). More than a quarter of AI-using companies (27.6%) reported an increase in labor safety. The least common impacts of AI on the work of organizations were a decrease in the number of employees (10%) and labor costs (9.4%).

Most often, organizations use AI in marketing and sales (55.9%) and organizational management (39.9%), less often in working with personnel (16.5%), logistics and transportation (17.4%).

Visual data processing technologies are the most popular in all types of economic activity, except for activities in the field of information and communication, where text processing technologies are more widespread.

In total, 69.2% of user organizations participating in the survey used visual data processing technologies. Text processing technologies are used by 48.7% of respondents, and audio data processing technologies are used by 46.3%. “Four AI technologies are used by 11.3%, three by 14.6%, two by 20.1%, but a separate class of AI technologies is in demand at the majority of organizations (45.1%),” the study notes.

“While more and more organizations are adopting AI technologies, many are still in their early stages of AI integration,” the authors write.

Researchers have found that various effects on labor have a significant relationship with different characteristics of organizations and the implementation of AI. For example, the implementation of all types of AI technology (except for visual data processing) in all business processes in which AI is implemented (except for security) leads to an increase in labor productivity in the organization. At the same time, the effect, unlike others, turned out to be more typical for large organizations.

  • MIL-OSI: Community Savings Dominates BC Cannabis Banking — Celebrates 4/20 with Free Accounts, Bold Campaign, and Game-Changing Credit Access

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

    – BC’s largest cannabis banker with 233 businesses as part of its cannabis community has disbursed over $22M in commercial loans and working capital, expanded market share to 30%, and is rolling out its “We’re Not Your Usual Banking Joint – We’re Better” campaign to support additional sector growth

VANCOUVER, British Columbia / Unceded Territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, April 15, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Community Savings, BC’s largest cannabis-friendly credit union, is shaking up the system. As the first and only financial institution in the province to offer full-service banking, credit cards, and working capital to cannabis businesses, the credit union is marking 4/20 by celebrating its most significant milestones yet—and launching a bold new campaign: “Not Your Usual Banking Joint.”

Mike Schilling, President & CEO, Community Savings says, “Legal cannabis entrepreneurs have been overcharged, overregulated, and overlooked. We’re putting money back in their pockets with smarter, fairer financial tools—because it’s long past the time the cannabis industry got treated like real businesses. We’re eliminating red tape and providing real financial support to help cannabis businesses scale and succeed. Over the last 6 years, we’ve made sure our cannabis members have the same banking privileges as any other industry. This community needs a financial partner that rolls at their speed and we’re here to deliver that.”

Community Savings has been a fierce advocate for financial inclusivity in the cannabis sector, pushing back against outdated banking norms and championing tailored solutions that directly benefit businesses. Key achievements include:

    • Credit Cards for Cannabis? Finally.: In an industry where major banks still refuse basic services, Community Savings has stepped up—becoming the only institution to offer pre-approved credit cards to cannabis businesses. To date, 38 credit cards have been provided. This shift enables cannabis businesses to move beyond cash-only transactions, improving both security and scalability.
    • $22 million in commercial lending and working capital to the cannabis industry: In partnership with We Can Capital Inc, Community Savings has advanced funds against invoices from the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (BCLDB), Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC), Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries (MBLL) and the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS). This immediate cash liquidity helps accelerate production, secure better supplier terms, scale their business, and drive net financial gains.
    • Fueling the growth of BC’s cannabis industry: Community Savings now supports 233 legal cannabis businesses in BC with fair, stigma-free financial services. In just two years, it has grown its cannabis banking portfolio by 70% – a testament to the urgent need for accessible banking in the industry.
    • Fair, accessible banking for cannabis businesses: Community Savings offers its QUADs business account with the same transparent pricing as any other business. This is revolutionary in a space where traditional banks are charging cannabis retailers up to $7,500 just to open a chequing account – often refusing service outright or imposing fees that are 1,500% to 5,000% higher than those for other retail businesses. At Community Savings, the account opening fee is $0. That’s right – zero. By removing these financial barriers, Community Savings is making banking affordable and accessible to the industry.

Community Savings’ latest campaign, ‘We’re not your usual banking joint – we’re better’ welcomes new cannabis businesses with waived application fees to its QUADs business account. With the QUAD account, cannabis businesses get access to fair and accessible banking products that help them scale and grow their business, and improve cash flows.

    Hear from the industry

Regulatory roadblocks, cash flow headaches, and financial stigma have made running a cannabis business needlessly difficult. But for Randy Tingskou, President of A Little Bud, having the right financial partner has been a game-changer.

“The cannabis industry is run on a pay to play model, where cash is often the only option, even for placing orders to BCLDB. This creates major barriers for retail businesses like ours looking to expand into new markets and open more storefronts. Community Savings actually fought to get us access to credit. Now we’ve shifted to credit payments for everyday expenses. This has been a game-changer in streamlining our operational costs and freeing up cash flow for growth,” Randy says. A Little Bud is opening its fourth location in Duncan in July.

Another perspective comes from Joshua Reynolds, Director of Partnerships at We Can Capital, who has seen firsthand how the right financing tools can reshape the cannabis industry. “What Community Savings is doing isn’t flashy or new – it’s foundational. They’re giving businesses the tools to function like any other industry. That shouldn’t be revolutionary, but in cannabis, it is,” Joshua says.

Through a partnership with Community Savings, We Can Capital is focused on expanding access to affordable accounts receivable financing for BC-based LPs, helping remove systemic barriers and creating a strong foundation for growth across the sector.

  • MIL-OSI Europe: Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke announces Government approval to accelerate the development of a new whole-of-government Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity

Source: Government of Ireland – Department of Jobs Enterprise and Innovation

The Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke today announced Government approval to accelerate the development of a new whole-of-government Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity, alongside a suite of immediate measures designed to bolster business resilience and support competitiveness

We are living in a time of significant global change, marked by growing geopolitical tensions, trade uncertainties, and persistent cost pressures affecting businesses both large and small. While Ireland continues to perform strongly in international competitiveness rankings, we cannot be complacent. To safeguard our economic future and support our enterprises, we must act decisively on the domestic factors we can influence.

Therefore, the Government has today agreed to fast-track the creation of a vital Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity, aiming to produce a draft within 12 weeks for discussion at a Ministerial Summit in July. This plan will identify concrete, actionable reforms across government to enhance our competitive edge.

As part of this plan, we are implementing a range of immediate, targeted measures by May 2025. These actions focus on key areas including enhancing international trade promotion supports for firms facing disruption, addressing business costs through regulatory adjustments and targeted initiatives, and improving energy security and infrastructure delivery.

I remain committed to the introduction of the Living Wage, and to fair wages for all workers. Government has approved substantial increases in the minimum wage, particularly over the last couple of years. The National Minimum Wage increased by €1.40 per hour in 2024, and by 80 cents per hour in January of this year. These uplifts have seen real increases in lower paid workers’ wages, exceeding inflation and wage growth across the economy.

I want to make sure that any further increases in the National Minimum Wage are managed in a sustainable way, and in a way that does not threaten employment or competitiveness. I will make sure we find a balance between a fair and sustainable rate for low paid workers, and one that will not have significant negative consequences for employers and competitiveness.

Government recognises the important work of the independent Low Pay Commission, and I look forward to receiving their recommendations for the 2026 National Minimum Wage later this year

These combined efforts – the accelerated long-term plan and the immediate support measures – demonstrate our commitment to proactively managing challenges and maintaining Ireland as an attractive and competitive location for business.”

Minister of State with responsibility for Small Business and Retail, Alan Dillon said:

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and a vital source of jobs and innovation in every town and community across Ireland. In today’s complex global environment, it’s more important than ever that we provide them with the tools and support they need to thrive. The measures announced today — from enhanced trade supports to tackling the cost of doing business reflect a strong, targeted response to the real challenges entrepreneurs and retailers are facing on the ground.

The establishment of a dedicated Small Business Unit and the creation of the Cost of Business Advisory Forum, will ensure the voice of small business is heard clearly in shaping future policy. As we fast-track the Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity, I am committed to making sure small firms are not only protected but empowered to grow, create jobs, and continue contributing to a vibrant, resilient economy.”

Also welcoming the announcement, Minister Smyth – Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation commented:

The rapidly evolving international economic landscape underscores the critical role of competitiveness in fostering sustainable growth within an open economy like ours. The upcoming Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity reflects the Government’s recognition of the need to address these challenges and its commitment to creating tangible growth opportunities for enterprises in Ireland.

Ahead of the Action Plan, the introduction of short-term measures demonstrates the Government’s readiness to respond swiftly to emerging developments. I particularly welcome the initiatives aimed at bolstering Ireland’s international trade promotion. Diversifying our trade relationships will be essential to maintaining Ireland’s competitiveness on the global stage.

    Background:

The Government’s focus on competitiveness comes amid a changing international context and heightened EU attention on bolstering Europe’s economic dynamism, as highlighted in recent reports and the European Commission’s ‘Competitiveness Compass’. While Ireland benefits from a skilled workforce and success in attracting high-value FDI, challenges remain, notably in infrastructure capacity and the high cost of doing business compared to competitor nations.

The Programme for Government mandated the development of the Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity, intended to cover areas critical to Ireland’s economic performance including industrial policy, regulatory burden reduction, infrastructure, energy, trade, and innovation. By expediting this Plan, the Government aims to align key decisions with the upcoming Budgetary process, enabling swift implementation. The approach will be evidence-based, involving consultation across Government Departments and with stakeholders.

In addition to accelerating the Action Plan, the Government has approved the following high-level short-term measures for implementation by May 2025:

Enhancing International Trade Promotion: Actions will focus on implementing enhanced advisory supports for exporters facing disruption, accelerating progress on key international trade agreements like CETA, developing a strategic approach to market diversification, streamlining security clearance processes for exporters, and bringing forward a National Semiconductor Strategy.

Addressing Business Costs: Measures include adjusting the implementation timeline for the Living Wage to 2029 but the Government remains committed to the introduction of a Living Wage during its term. Decisions on youth sub-minimum wage rates will be deferred, and further changes to statutory sick pay paused. A new Cost of Business Advisory Forum will be established, we will proceed with omnibus changes to simplify the CSRD regulations, a Small Business Unit will be created, and competition and consumer protection enforcement strengthened.

Improving Energy Infrastructure: Steps will be taken to provide policy certainty regarding data centres, publish plans for connecting large energy users to the grid, foster collaboration between Government and industry on offshore renewable energy development, accelerate the deployment of critical electricity grid infrastructure, and explore options for development routes to market for zones B, C and D in South Coast DMAP to provide pathway for future offshore wind energy to meet growing electricity demand

  • MIL-OSI Economics: Forging Futures: How Samsung’s PrePARe Programme is Pioneering a New Era of Research Leadership

    Source: Samsung

In today’s rapidly evolving innovation ecosystem, the ability to translate academic research into real-world impact has become a defining need. Recognising this, Samsung R&D Institute India-Bangalore (SRI-B) launched the Ph.D. Internship Programme for Advanced Industrial Research (PrePARe) in 2022.

The programme is designed to empower India’s brightest Ph.D. scholars with industry exposure, deep tech research opportunities, and mentorship from seasoned experts, enabling them to work on next-generation technologies such as Generative AI, Deep Learning, 6G, MIMO, AI in Wireless, and Computer Vision.

Through PrePARe, Samsung is creating a unique platform where academic brilliance meets industrial scale. Scholars selected for this six-month internship are given the chance to contribute to high-impact projects that align with Samsung’s vision of building a better future through innovation.

“We continue to strengthen our R&D capabilities with next-gen thinking and fresh ideas. PrePARe connects our seasoned experts with the top Ph.D. scholars to co-create impactful technologies. The programme offers interns an unmatched opportunity to tackle real-world challenges while shaping their careers. I wish them a meaningful and purpose-driven journey with us,” said Mohan Rao Goli, Corporate Vice President and Managing Director, SRI-B.

Research scholars for this programme are selected from top-tier institutions including IISc, IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Madras, Hyderabad, Roorkee, BHU, Kharagpur), and IIITs (Hyderabad, Bangalore). They go through a rigorous selection process based on their research track record, relevance of their thesis, and innovation potential.

More than 80 scholars have joined the programme so far, contributing to patents, publications, and future-ready tech solutions. At SRI-B, they are not treated as interns—they are seen as domain experts. Each is entrusted with meaningful projects that push the boundaries of applied research.
For Chaitra D Desai, joining SRI-B as a Ph.D. intern was a turning point.

“Beyond theoretical research, I am gaining robust experience working with large-scale datasets, optimizing models for edge devices, helping me inculcate a product-focused approach. Transitioning from academia to industry was an eye-opening experience,” she said.

Chaitra is currently working on innovations in Robotics, AR/VR, and Autonomous Driving. Meanwhile, Bhogavalli Satwika is tackling a different challenge—integrating Radio Frequency (RF) sensing capabilities into the 5G framework to enhance network efficiency.

The exposure to real-world innovation is what sets PrePARe apart. Interns work closely with SRI-B mentors, contribute to ongoing research projects, and present their findings to SRI-B leadership at the end of the programme—receiving critical insights on how their work fits into Samsung’s broader innovation strategy.

Most of them also speak highly of the collaborative, high-performance culture at SRI-B.

“The hands-on experience I get at Samsung will significantly improve my research,” said Sumit Sharma, while Yamini Shankar said, “I’m loving the collaboration and support my team empowers me with.”

In just three years, PrePARe has emerged as a high-impact initiative one that not only nurtures academic talent but also enables them to contribute meaningfully to industry innovation. As these Ph.D. scholars push the boundaries of what is possible, they are not just gaining experience, together with Samsung, they are helping shape the technologies of tomorrow.
