  • Strength before peace: Netanyahu lauds Trump for strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday hailed US President Donald Trump following coordinated airstrikes on Iran’s key nuclear facilities, calling the military action a bold and historic move that could reshape the future of the Middle East.

In a video address after the strikes, Netanyahu praised Trump’s decision to target Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, including the heavily fortified Fordow site, as well as installations at Natanz and Esfahan. The Israeli leader reiterated the long-standing motto shared by both leaders: “Peace through strength”.

“First comes strength, then comes peace,” Netanyahu said. “Tonight, President Trump and the United States demonstrated immense strength. This is a decisive and bold action that will be remembered in history.”

The US military reportedly deployed six bunker-buster bombs on the Fordow nuclear facility and launched 30 Tomahawk cruise missiles at Natanz and Esfahan, as part of what has been described as a highly successful mission. The operation, reportedly codenamed “Rising Lion”, was aimed at neutralising what the US sees as imminent nuclear threats posed by Iran.

“President Trump, congratulations. Your courageous leadership and decision to strike Iran’s nuclear sites with the overwhelming power of the United States is a pivotal moment,” Netanyahu said. “This action, in my view, denies the world’s most dangerous regime access to the world’s most dangerous weapons.”

Netanyahu also highlighted Israel’s role in countering regional threats but acknowledged that the US operation far exceeded anything any nation could have executed. “History will record this as the moment when a line was drawn. President Trump acted not just for American security, but for the safety of the entire world,” he added.

Meanwhile, Trump posted on his platform, Truth Social, confirming the airstrikes and stating, “A full payload of bombs was dropped on Fordow… All planes are safely on their way home.” He called the mission a success and praised the American military, saying, “There is no other force on Earth that could have accomplished this.”

In his post, Trump emphasised that “now is the time for peace” and announced he would address the nation at 10 p.m. local time to discuss the operation in detail. Describing the moment as historic for the US, Israel, and the world, Trump called on Iran to “end this war” and reconsider its nuclear ambitions in the wake of the military response.

  • Violation of international law, says Iran’s Atomic Agency on US bombing

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation has stated that the attacks on its nuclear sites constitute a violation of international law. However, it did not clarify the extent of the damage caused by the strikes that US President Donald Trump announced earlier.

Trump has said the US military carried out strikes on Iran’s Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz atomic sites. The attack took place early on Sunday.

Iran has said that it would not allow the development of its “national industry” – an apparent reference to the country’s nuclear development – to be stopped.

Tehran’s agency said the attacks on its nuclear sites violate international law. “The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran assures the great Iranian nation that despite the evil conspiracies of its enemies, with the efforts of thousands of its revolutionary and motivated scientists and experts, it will not allow the development of this national industry, which is the result of the blood of nuclear martyrs, to be stopped,” it said in its statement.

Earlier, Trump announced that the US military had carried out strikes on Iran’s Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz atomic sites. “We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” he said on the social platform ‘Truth Social’.

He further said that this was a historic moment for America, Israel and the world, and that Iran must agree to end this war.

Earlier on Friday, Trump told reporters that he has given Iran a maximum of two weeks to return to the negotiation table over its nuclear program.

On June 13, Israel began airstrikes on Iran, destroying several infrastructures and killing dozens of Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists. In response, Iran has carried out missile and drone attacks on various locations in Israel.

Ezell Applauds President Trump’s Decisive Action Against Iranian Nuclear Threat

Congressman Mike Ezell (MS-4) issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s recent military strike targeting Iran’s nuclear weapons infrastructure:

“I applaud President Trump for taking bold and decisive action to eliminate Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities. The Islamic Republic has long posed a grave threat to global stability, and this strike sends an unmistakable message: the United States will not tolerate rogue regimes developing weapons of mass destruction.

For decades, Iran’s leaders have openly chanted ‘Death to America’ while funding terrorism and threatening our allies. Those words are not just rhetoric—they represent a dangerous agenda that must be taken seriously.

This operation not only protects our national security interests, but also strengthens the safety of our allies in the Middle East—especially Israel—and helps secure a more stable future for the region. I am proud to stand with President Trump and our military for taking swift and necessary steps to defend peace through strength.”

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued the following statement in response to U.S. strikes against Iran.

“Today’s U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites represent strong, decisive action fully within President Trump’s constitutional authority as Commander in Chief. By targeting Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan, the Administration has significantly degraded Tehran’s nuclear capabilities and disrupted a looming threat to global security.

“This action was not taken lightly, but with resolve, responsibility, and in pursuit of a more stable and peaceful future. By reducing Iran’s capacity to develop a nuclear weapon, these strikes send a clear and unmistakable message: America will act swiftly and with precision to defend our national interests and those of our allies.

“Now is the time for Iran to reassess its path and choose negotiation over provocation. While diplomacy should always remain our preferred path, I fully support President Trump’s use of legitimate, constitutional authority to protect the United States and prevent a far greater conflict down the road.”

  • Either peace or tragedy: Trump’s warning after US strikes hit Iranian nuclear sites

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

US President Donald Trump declared that America had bombed three nuclear sites in Iran and warned Tehran of further precision strikes unless it ended its confrontation with Israel.

The targeted locations reportedly include the highly fortified Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan nuclear facilities.

Addressing a media briefing just hours after the strikes on Saturday (US time), Trump stated, “This cannot continue. There will either be peace or tragedy for Iran, far greater than what we have witnessed over the last eight days. There are many targets left.”

“Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight was the most difficult of them all, by far, and perhaps the most lethal, but if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed and skill,” he added.

The President asserted that the strikes were aimed at crippling Iran’s “nuclear enrichment capacity and put a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror.”

Despite weeks of diplomatic efforts to renegotiate a nuclear agreement with Tehran — following the US withdrawal from the 2015 accord in 2018 – Trump has now thrown full support behind Israel’s military campaign against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and high-ranking military officials, a campaign launched a little over a week ago.

In his statement, Trump extended gratitude to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying, “I want to thank and congratulate Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. We worked as a team, like perhaps no team has ever worked before, and we’ve gone a long way to erasing this horrible threat to Israel. I want to thank the Israeli military for the wonderful job they’ve done.”

The air conflict between the two nations erupted on June 13 when Israel launched a surprise strike on Iran.

Israeli authorities claimed the offensive was a preemptive measure to stop Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons – an ambition Iran has consistently denied.

The conflict has since raised tensions across the region, already on edge following Israel’s prolonged war in Gaza since October 2023.

The latest exchange has now drawn in the United States in a direct military capacity.

Earlier in the day, Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, calling the strikes a “historic moment for the United States of America, Israel, and the World… Iran must now agree to end this war. Thank you!”

In another post, the US President praised American forces, writing, “There is not another military in the World that could have done this. Now is the time for peace! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Iranian state media confirmed that parts of the Fordow nuclear facility were hit in what it called “enemy strikes,” though further details on the extent of the damage remain limited.

  • Israel Intensifies Strikes on Iran’s Strategic Port City as US Deploys Stealth Bombers

    Source: Government of India

    Source: Government of India (4)

US stealth bombers were flying across the Pacific Ocean on Saturday, fueling speculation over their intended mission as President Donald Trump considers joining Israel’s attack on Iranian nuclear sites. Trump says he will decide within two weeks on whether the US military will get directly involved in the conflict between Israel and Iran, while the president has kept the world guessing on his plans, veering from proposing a swift diplomatic solution to suggesting the US might join the fighting on Israel’s side.

Israeli forces launched fresh strikes against Iran’s critical port city of Bandar Abbas in southwestern Iran on Saturday, targeting what the military described as unmanned aerial vehicle depots and weapons facilities. The strategic significance of Bandar Abbas cannot be overstated – the city serves as Iran’s most important commercial gateway, housing the country’s main port, naval headquarters, and vital oil infrastructure near the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20 percent of global oil trade passes. Earlier Saturday, Israel said it launched airstrikes against Iran, including against the Isfahan nuclear site, as Iran sent missiles and drones toward Israel.

The conflict between Iran and Israel is intensifying, drawing growing concern from regional powers and international observers.

In the latest escalation, Iran launched around 40 drones toward Israeli territory. In response, Israeli forces struck what they described as “dozens of military targets” in southwestern Iran. Among the sites hit was an emergency center in Khuzestan province, which, according to Iranian media, included a university reported to have been completely destroyed in the bombardment.

Meanwhile, the United States has increased its military posture in the region. The Pentagon has deployed B-2 stealth bombers from their base in Missouri to the Pacific. These long-range aircraft are capable of carrying the GBU-57 bunker buster, a 14-ton conventional weapon designed to penetrate deep underground facilities, such as Iran’s fortified Fordow uranium enrichment site.

The conflict has prompted warnings from Iran-backed groups across West Asia, with Houthi forces cautioning the United States against military action targeting Tehran. The rebels specifically threatened to target American ships and warships in the Red Sea if Washington joins Israel’s military campaign against Iran.

An Iranian military spokesperson escalated tensions further by declaring that arms exports to Israel would be considered legitimate targets by Tehran.

Diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis have proven unsuccessful, with Iranian officials stating they would not engage in discussions with the United States while Israel’s bombing campaign continues.

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: NZ response to developments in Middle East

    Source: New Zealand Government

The Government continues to call for diplomacy and dialogue in the Middle East,  Foreign Minister Winston Peters says.

“We acknowledge developments in the last 24 hours, including President Trump’s announcement of US strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran,” Mr Peters says.

“Ongoing military action in the Middle East is extremely worrying, and it is critical further escalation is avoided. New Zealand strongly supports efforts towards diplomacy. We urge all parties to return to talks. Diplomacy will deliver a more enduring resolution than further military action.”

Meanwhile, the Government is pursuing all options for assisting New Zealanders stranded in Iran and Israel, Mr Peters and Defence Minister Judith Collins say.

“We remain seriously concerned about the risks New Zealanders face in Iran and Israel given continued military strikes between the two countries,” Mr Peters says.

“Airspace has been closed since the beginning of the current conflict, and it is highly uncertain when it will reopen. That is why we continue to recommend that New Zealanders do everything they can to leave now if they can find a safe route.

“We know it will not be safe for everyone to leave Iran or Israel, and many people may not have access to transport or fuel supplies. If you are in this situation you should shelter in place, follow appropriate advice from local authorities and stay in touch with family and friends where possible.”

As part of government efforts to pursue all options for assisting New Zealanders in harm’s way, government personnel and a C-130J Hercules aircraft are being deployed to the Middle East and will stand ready to assist if needed. The Government is also in discussion with commercial airlines to assess how they may be able to assist.

“This deployment is part of our contingency plans in preparation for supporting New Zealanders seeking to leave Iran and Israel,” Ms Collins says.

“The New Zealand Defence Force is playing an important role in this operation, stepping up to help New Zealanders in distress overseas.”

“Airspace in Israel and Iran remains heavily restricted, which means getting people out by aircraft is not yet possible. But by positioning an aircraft and Defence and Foreign Affairs personnel in the region, we may be able to do more when airspace reopens.”

The situation in the Middle East is fast-moving and it will take several days for the C-130J Hercules, scheduled to leave Auckland tomorrow, to reach the region.

All New Zealanders in the Middle East – not just in Iran and Israel – are urged to register on SafeTravel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is running 24/7 consular operations, including via teams in the region.

WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Jimmy Gomez (CA-34), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee On Intelligence, issued the following statement after President Trump announced he ordered a U.S. military strike on nuclear sites in Iran:

“Trump’s unilateral decision to strike these facilities may lead the U.S. into a war with Iran — without Congressional authorization. Under our Constitution, the power to declare war rests with Congress. Period.

“He chose to launch this strike on his own, knowing full well it could provoke retaliation and put American lives at risk. Now, the American people and Congress are left to deal with the fallout of a reckless decision we had no role in.

“President Trump has broken his promises of peace, undermined our allies, and once again shown that he lacks the credibility and steady leadership this moment demands.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is an oppressive and dangerous regime that supports terrorism, targets Americans, and silences its own people. It should never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon — plain and simple. That would be a direct threat to our allies in the Middle East — including Israel and Jordan — and peace and security around the world.”

    COMMENTARY: By Caitlin Johnstone

Do Israel’s supporters know it’s over for them? Like, they know they’re going to be despised for the rest of their lives, right? That they will never, ever live down the fact that they supported a live-streamed genocide?

And that it will only get worse for them as history clarifies things?

Surely they must realise this by now. Surely they must realise that nothing they do for the rest of their lives will ever be as significant as the fact that they played cheerleader for genocide and all of Israel’s demented warmongering, long after normal people realised it was the wrong thing to do.

That in the eyes of the world they will all always be first and foremost someone who supported and defended history’s first live-streamed genocide.

I wonder what that’s like, knowing that about yourself? If that was me maybe I’d be pushing for World War Three as well, I dunno. Maybe I’d hope we could turn the whole world into Gaza and let the flames wash away human memory of the things we had done. That enough death and destruction spread out across enough of the earth would make my crimes look small in comparison or something.

It won’t work, though. Everyone’s always going to remember what they did. Their grandchildren will be disgusted by them. Their families will carry their shame for generations.

What a terrible way to be.

The UK will reportedly be designating Palestine Action as a terrorist group for spraying British military planes with red paint to protest the genocide in Gaza.

It says a lot about how backwards and diseased western civilization has become when peace activists are designated as terrorists for trying to stop the world’s worst acts of terrorism.

Iran is having more and more success with its missile strikes on Israel. I am not a military expert, but I’ve been hearing for years that Israel doesn’t want to fight Iran because it can’t reliably stop Iran’s missiles. Israel of course would have known this, so it looks like the plan was always for Israel to get itself into hot water and have the US pull it out.

Iran’s real sin is insisting upon its own sovereignty as a nation. That’s why it’s a target of the Western empire. Giving up sovereignty over its own energy infrastructure would be giving up the very thing the Iranians started fighting for in the first place all those years ago. They’re not going to do it unless they are forced to, otherwise what was the point of resisting absorption into the imperial blob that whole time?

I’m supposed to hate a country for saying “Death to America”? I yell that during sex.

The only reason they get to call the Gaza holocaust a “war” is because they’re using bombs and bullets to do the extermination. If they were using gas chambers to kill the same number of people with the exact same motive, all it would change is the world’s understanding of what’s happening.

War after war after war the Western empire has told us it needs to ship off our young to go fight evil murderous tyrants, only for the West to wake up to the reality that the empire’s dearest ally in the Middle East is the most evil, murderous and tyrannical regime around.

The idea of war with Iran would be even less popular than it is now if the Western media hadn’t spent all these years referring to Iran’s civilian nuclear energy programme as “Iran’s nuclear programme”, deliberately causing people to assume that Iran is working on nuclear weapons.

Friendly reminder that last year the official Democratic Party platform slammed Trump for choosing not to go to war with Iran in 2018, 2019 and 2020 during his last presidency.

Americans aren’t allowed to vote against war.

The Ayatollah’s refusal to negotiate in good faith confirms what we’ve long known: Iran cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons.

The Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa is calling out for New Zealanders to condemn the US bombing of Iran.

PSNA Co-Chair, Maher Nazzal, says he hopes, but does not expect, that the New Zealand government will be critical of the US for its war escalation.

“Israel has once again hoodwinked the United States into fighting Israel’s wars.

“Israel’s Prime Minister has declared Iran to be on the point of producing nuclear weapons since the 1990s.  It’s all part of his big plan for expulsion of Palestinians from Palestine to create a Greater Israel, and regime change for the entire region.”

“Israel knows Arab and European countries will fall in behind these plans and in many cases actually help implement them.”

“It is a dreadful day for the Palestinians.  Netanyahu’s forces will be turned back onto them in Gaza and the West Bank.”

“It is just as dreadful day for the whole Middle East.  Trump has tried to add Iran to the disasters of US foreign policy in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.  The US simply doesn’t care how many people will die.”

Speaker Johnson Statement on U.S. Airstrikes on Iran Nuclear Sites

    Washington, June 21, 2025

Speaker Johnson today released the following statement:

“The military operations in Iran should serve as a clear reminder to our adversaries and allies that President Trump means what he says.

“The President gave Iran’s leader every opportunity to make a deal, but Iran refused to commit to a nuclear disarmament agreement.

“President Trump has been consistent and clear that a nuclear-armed Iran will not be tolerated. That posture has now been enforced with strength, precision, and clarity.

“The President’s decisive action prevents the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, which chants ‘Death to America,’ from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet. This is America First policy in action.

“God bless our brave men and women in uniform — the most lethal fighting force on the planet — as we pray for their safe return home. May God bless America.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) released the following statement after the United States struck Iran’s nuclear facilities:

“Iran’s first mistake was not signing the deal that President Trump offered. Their second mistake was believing President Trump would not take the necessary steps to protect our allies and interests abroad.

“As the largest state sponsor of terrorism who is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans, it is imperative that the Iranian regime never possess a nuclear weapon. The weak national security leadership of the Obama and Biden administrations emboldened Iran, allowing them to advance their nuclear capabilities greater than ever before. I fully support President Trump’s actions to defend our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel, and send a clear message to our adversaries that America does not tolerate nuclear intimidation.

“May God bless our magnificent military and protect Israel in these troubling times.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Hoyle Issues Statement on President Trump’s Unilateral Decision to Strike Iran

Source: US Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04)

    June 21, 2025

Rep. Hoyle, a longtime defender of Congressional War Powers, calls this a blatant violation of the Constitution

For Immediate Release: June 21, 2025

EUGENE, OR – Today, U.S. Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04) released the following statement following President Donald Trump’s unilateral decision to involve American forces in strikes on Iran.

“The U.S. Constitution is clear, only Congress has the power to declare war,” said Rep. Hoyle. “For too long Presidents of both parties have violated Congress’s authority and launched strikes around the world. This isn’t just about Congress, it’s about giving the American people a say in whether or not to send American troops into another foreign war.

“I will not defend the Iranian regime or understate the danger of a nuclear Iran. However, this is about a decision to drag American service members and the United States into another war in the Middle East. American lives are at stake and therefore Congress and the American people need to have a say in this decision.

“No president, Democrat or Republican, has the authority to bypass Congress when it comes to matters of war.”

    Background

Since coming to Congress in 2022, Rep. Hoyle has been an outspoken critic of presidential abuses of Congressional War Powers by both Democratic and Republican administrations.

    • In 2023, Rep. Hoyle voted against the House’s version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in part due to concerns about War Powers authorities. She offered amendments to:

      • Prohibit U.S. involvement in the war in Yemen unless authorized by Congress;

      • End unauthorized U.S. military involvement in Syria;

      • And to repeal the 1991, 2001, and 2002 Authorizations for the Use of Military Force (AUMFs), citing their misuse by presidents of both parties who use them to unilaterally engage in foreign wars.

    • In 2023, Rep. Hoyle spoke out against President Biden’s use of unauthorized military strikes.

    • In January 2024, Rep. Hoyle was among the first Democratic Congresspeople to speak out against President Biden’s unilateral decision to launch strikes in Yemen.

    • In April 2025, Rep. Hoyle joined Rep. Jayapal (D-WA) and Rep. Khanna (D-CA) to lead 30 of her colleagues in calling out President Trumps unilateral decision to launch strikes in Yemen.

    • In June 2025, Rep. Hoyle was one of 14 original cosponsors of Rep. Khanna’s (D-CA) and Rep. Massie’s (R-KY) bipartisan resolution to require President Trump to seek Congressional authorization before launching strikes on Iran.

Congressional War Powers are clearly outlined by U.S. law:

    • Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution states that Congress has the sole authority to authorize military involvement in overseas conflicts.

    • Section 2(c) of the War Powers Resolution of 1973 states that the President can only introduce U.S. forces into hostilities in one of three scenarios:

      • 1. After a declaration of war by Congress;

      • 2. After a specific statutory authorization from Congress;

      • 3. Or in a national emergency created by an attack on the U.S.

  • MIL-OSI: Trump, Munir exchange praises as Pakistan rises as regional stabilizer: IRS Analysis

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

ISLAMABAD, June 21, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In a closely watched meeting at the White House, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met with U.S. President Donald J. Trump. Analysts at the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) in Islamabad, have characterized this as a strategic reset for Pakistan.

Held over a luncheon in the Cabinet Room and followed by an extended session in the Oval Office, the meeting included Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio, U.S. Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs Steve Witkoff, and Pakistan’s National Security Advisor. Initially planned for an hour, the talks stretched over two hours, underscoring the depth of engagement. According to ISPR’s official press release, the exchange between Field Marshal Munir and President Trump reflected a new level of mutual recognition, with both leaders exchanging commendations for each other’s leadership. Munir conveyed the gratitude of Pakistan’s people and government for Trump’s personal role in brokering a ceasefire between Pakistan and India during the recent regional crisis. Trump, in return, praised Pakistan’s regional peacekeeping and counterterrorism efforts.

IRS notes that the dialogue extended beyond security matters to encompass expansive discussions on trade, economic development, energy, cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, and mineral exploration—an ambitious agenda suggesting long-term strategic alignment. President Trump voiced a strong interest in developing a mutually beneficial trade partnership with Pakistan rooted in shared goals and regional convergence.

Both sides also discussed escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, agreeing on the urgency of diplomatic resolution. Trump was briefed on Pakistan’s position as a responsible regional stakeholder advocating for de-escalation. The IRS views this engagement as emblematic of Pakistan’s evolving global posture—from reactive crisis diplomacy to proactive strategic positioning. In its analysis, the think tank highlights how Pakistan is increasingly seen by Washington as a necessary stabilizing force amid a deteriorating Middle East environment. According to the think tank’s analysis, Pakistan’s shared borders with Iran and its strategic position in the Middle East have the potential to catapult Pakistan into the middle of a diplomatic solution.

As a symbol of warming ties, Field Marshal Munir formally invited President Trump to undertake an official visit to Pakistan. The invitation was well received, with both sides agreeing to maintain momentum on key collaborative tracks.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Governor Kehoe Requests Federal Disaster Declarations for 2 Storm Systems that Resulted in Damage in Southwest Missouri

    Source: US State of Missouri

    JUNE 21, 2025

     — Today, Governor Mike Kehoe requested two federal disaster declarations in response to severe storms that resulted in heavy damage to homes, businesses, and public infrastructure in a total of eight counties in southwest Missouri this spring:

    • A U.S. Small Business (SBA) Disaster Declaration to provide low interest SBA Disasters Loans for Greene, Lawrence, and Newton counties in response to severe storms, tornadoes, heavy rains, hail, and flooding that occurred on April 29; and
    • A federal Major Disaster Declaration to provide federal assistance to Dade, Douglas, Ozark, Vernon, and Webster counties in response to the severe storms, straight-line winds, hail, heavy rains, and flooding that occurred throughout Memorial Day weekend, May 23-26.

“The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and local partners worked in close coordination with FEMA and the Small Business Administration and once again documented large amounts of costly damage and response expenditures that meet thresholds for federal assistance to these impacted areas,” Governor Kehoe said. “Today, we are requesting a federal disaster declaration for the May 23-26 storms to rebuild damaged infrastructure in five counties and low interest loans to support homeowners, renters, and businesses in the three counties hardest by the April 29 storms.”

Joint preliminary damage assessments conducted by the SBA, SEMA, and local officials authorities documented that at least 80 homes and five businesses in Greene, Lawrence, and Newton counties sustained major damage and uninsured losses of more than 40% in the April 29 storms and warrant low interest disaster loans that would be made available through a Small Business Administration Disaster Declaration for physical and economic injury. President Donald Trump previously, on June 9, approved a federal Major Disaster Declaration for Public Assistance to repair and replace public infrastructure damaged in the April 29 storms, which included Greene, Lawrence and Newton counties.

Joint preliminary damage assessments conducted by FEMA, SEMA, and local officials estimated more than $18 million in emergency response costs and damage to public infrastructure in Dade, Douglas, Ozark, Vernon, and Webster counties as a result of the May 23-26 storms. The federal Major Disaster Declaration the Governor is seeking for this period would make the FEMA Public Assistance program available to local governments and qualifying nonprofits for the repair and rebuilding of damaged roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure as well as reimbursement of emergency response costs and debris removal.

Missourians with unmet needs are encouraged to contact United Way by dialing 2-1-1 or the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767. SANAA, June 21 (Xinhua) — Yemen’s Houthi rebel movement said in a statement on Saturday that it would attack American ships if the United States launched military action against Iran.

“If America takes part in the attack and aggression against Iran … the armed forces /of the Houthis/ will attack American ships and military vessels in the Red Sea,” warned the official representative of the Houthi armed groups, Yahya Saria, on the air of the Houthi-controlled Al-Masirah TV channel.

“We are monitoring and controlling all movements in the region … and we will take the necessary measures,” he said, adding: “We support Iran … We will not allow America and its criminal entity to implement its plans in the region.”

US President Donald Trump told reporters on Friday that he had given Iran a maximum of two weeks to return to the negotiating table on its nuclear program.

Last week, Israel launched a campaign of airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities and senior Iranian leaders, destroying several infrastructure sites and killing dozens of Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes against various targets in the Jewish state.

The Houthi movement, which controls much of northern Yemen, began shelling Israel in November 2023, weeks after the war between Israel and Hamas began in the Gaza Strip, in a show of solidarity with the Palestinians. –0–
