Congressman Sorensen to Secretary Rollins: “How Committed Are You to Making Sure That Our Research, Like the Peoria Ag Lab [and at] Ag Labs Across the Country, Are Fulfilled and That the Money is Going to Them?”

Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) called on U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins to commit to supporting critical research work at the National Center for Agriculture Utilization Research (NCAUR), also known as the Peoria Ag Lab, during a House Agriculture Committee hearing.

“The Peoria Ag Lab and agriculture labs across the country play a vital role in supporting our farmers with cutting-edge research that we all benefit from,” said Congressman Sorensen. “While I am relieved the Peoria Ag Lab will remain open, it is important we get firm commitments from USDA leadership to continue supporting the important work of the men and women at the lab.”

Congressman Sorensen has been a fierce advocate for the Peoria Ag Lab, including recently leading his colleagues in a letter to Secretary Rollins in March outlining the lab’s vital contributions to agriculture and the regional economy. This month, he announced the Peoria Ag Lab will remain open and is even slated for growth.

  • MIL-OSI USA: ICYMI: Congressman Sorensen Helps Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Fully Staff National Weather Service Offices Across the Country

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17)

The “Weather Workforce Improvement Act” Ensures the National Weather Service is Fully Staffed Going into This Year’s Hurricane and Severe Weather Season

Last week, Congressmen Eric Sorensen (IL-17), Mike Flood (NE-1), Jared Moskowitz (FL-23), Frank Lucas (OK-3), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) introduced their bipartisan Weather Workforce Improvement Act to help the National Weather Service (NWS) fully staff critical positions at their offices as the country prepares for severe weather and hurricanes this summer.

Read more about the bipartisan legislation:

    • CNN: Rep. Sorensen discusses bipartisan legislation to help staff the National Weather Service during severe weather and hurricane season

      • Congressman Sorensen: “We need to make sure that we are understanding that the National Weather Service meteorologists are there to care for our communities, but they are essential. They are as essential to our safety as TSA and air traffic controllers. I’m so thankful – as being the only meteorologist in Congress – that we’re able to work across the aisle. Congressman Flood from Nebraska and myself realized that ‘hey, we’re in severe weather season – we’re going to be ramping up into hurricane season.’ We need to make sure that we have the staffing levels that are needed. We have too many people that have been let go. This administration needs to hire them back.”

    • New York Times: Law would make most National Weather Service workers hard to fire

      • A bill introduced in the House of Representatives on Friday would make it harder to fire most employees of the National Weather Service and give the agency’s director the authority to hire new staff directly, months after it lost nearly 600 employees to layoffs and retirements as part of the Trump administration’s sweeping cuts to the federal work force.

      • The bill’s other sponsors include Representative Frank Lucas, Republican of Oklahoma, as well as Democratic Representatives Jared Moskowitz of Florida, Jimmy Panetta of California, and Eric Sorensen of Illinois. All represent states that have been hit by severe weather this year.

      • “Severe weather affects both blue states and red states, and ensuring Americans have access to reliable and accurate weather forecasting is something everyone should support regardless of their political affiliation,” said Mr. Sorensen, who is the only meteorologist in Congress. “I’m grateful for Congressman Flood’s partnership on bipartisan legislation that will help fully staff National Weather Service offices across the country during severe weather and hurricane season.”

    • NBC News: Tired in tornado alley

      • NBC News joined a congressional tour — at the invitation of Rep. Eric Sorensen, D-Ill., Congress’ only meteorologist and a critic of the administration — to see the effects of the Trump administration’s cuts at the Quad Cities forecasting office for Iowa and Illinois.

      • Sorensen, who worked for 22 years as a TV meteorologist, has signed on to co-sponsor Flood’s bill, along with Reps. Frank Lucas, R-Okla., Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., and Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif. Sorensen said he’s concerned a mistake by a worn-down meteorologist will lead to unnecessary deaths. He compared the situation to a used car — once trusty and now headed for a lapse.

      • “It’s not running the way that it was supposed to,” Sorensen said of the service. “Meteorologists, we’re human, you know. We will make mistakes, and I don’t want to ever see us in a situation where funding or a lack of funding has now caused there to be a loss of life.”

    • NBC News: Rep. Sorensen highlights importance of the National Weather Service in his congressional district

      • Reporter: […] Congressman Eric Sorensen visited his local weather office to listen to and encourage the forecasters stretched thin. So thin, that sometimes they can’t do basic things, like launch a weather balloon.

      • […]

      • Reporter: Now, (Rep.) Flood is partnering with Sorensen on a bipartisan bill to further protect weather service forecasters by reclassifying them as public safety, alongside FBI agents and air traffic controllers.

      • Congressman Sorensen: “We have to make sure that we’re protecting [National Weather Service meteorologists] because they don’t just serve my constituents here. They serve constituents of every Member of Congress.”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17)

Congressman Sorensen to Secretary Hegseth: “Do You Believe That Harvey Milk is a Veteran Who Deserves His Country’s Thanks?”

Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) called out Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s effort to rename the USNS Harvey Milk during Pride Month, despite Harvey’s commendable service during the Korean War that continues to inspire LGBTQ+ service members to proudly wear the uniform.

“Every LGBTQ+ child should be able to grow up to fulfill their dreams serving our country,” said Congressman Sorensen. “The Secretary of Defense renaming the USNS Harvey Milk and singling out LGBTQ+ members who bravely serve our country is disgusting and un-American.”

You can watch the full exchange with Secretary Hegseth HERE.

Congressman Sorensen is the only LGBTQ+ member on the House Armed Services Committee. Yesterday, he honored Navy veteran Harvey Milk during a House Armed Services Committee hearing while questioning Navy Secretary John Phelan on the decision to rename the USS Harvey Milk. He also recently joined a letter objecting to the renaming of the Harvey Milk U.S. Navy ship and calling on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to rescind his order renaming the ship.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Mfume and Sessions Examine DOD’s Progress Toward Achieving a Clean Audit

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Kweisi Mfume (MD-07)

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Subcommittee on Government Operations Ranking Member Kweisi Mfume (D-MD) and Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX) continue to examine the Department of Defense’s (DOD) financial management practices and path toward achieving a clean audit. In a letter to DOD Secretary Pete Hegseth, the lawmakers request a bipartisan briefing on DOD’s updated efforts to address any outstanding issues related to the Department’s financial management and progress toward achieving a clean audit by December 2028, with a plan declared by the end of June 2025.

“DOD spending comprises nearly half of the federal government’s discretionary spending and its physical assets make up more than 70 percent of the government’s physical assets. The failure to fully account for these assets and spending results in gaps in DOD’s operational readiness and the financial strength of the entire federal government,” said the lawmakers. “Experts from the DOD Office of the Inspector General, and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) detailed the challenges that DOD faces and necessary actions to increase the likelihood of achieving a clean audit opinion by the mandated deadline of December 31, 2028.”

This examination of DOD’s progress is part of the Subcommittee’s larger investigation into DOD’s discretionary spending and ineffective financial management that prevents them from achieving a clean audit.  The Subcommittee held a hearing on April 29, 2025, to track DOD’s progress toward achieving a clean audit. DOD has failed seven financial audits and has not achieved a clean audit since being required to in 1990. The U.S. Marine Corps is the only service to obtain a clean audit opinion. The Department’s long history of poor financial and fraud risk management also makes it highly susceptible to fraud, waste, and abuse. The U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will continue to examine how DOD can be a better steward of taxpayer dollars.

“In correspondence received in lieu of attendance, we were assured ‘that working towards a ‘clean audit’ is among the Department’s top priorities.’ As stated in previous hearings, if DOD is to achieve a clean audit opinion by December 2028, significant progress must be made by fiscal year 2026. Based on testimony before the Subcommittee, there is still a lot of work ahead for the Department. To assist the Committee’s oversight of this matter, we request a briefing on DOD’s efforts to address outstanding issues related to financial management and plans for achieving a clean audit opinion for the Department, by June 30, 2025,” concluded the Members.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Reps. Young Kim, Adam Gray Lead Bipartisan Push for National Wildfire Response Time

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Young Kim (CA-39)

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Young Kim (CA-40) and Adam Gray (CA-13) introduced the Wildfire Response and Preparedness (WRAP) Act to create a 30-minute national standard response time to the extent practical to any wildland fire on federal land administered by the Secretaries of Agriculture and the Interior.

Spectrum News 1 SoCal first reported on the bill HERE.

“Timely response to a wildfire can make the difference between life and death,” said Congresswoman Kim, who represents the Cleveland National Forest Trabuco Ranger District. “My community knows the devastation of wildfires firsthand as we still recover from last year’s Airport Fire that started in Trabuco Canyon and burned 23,000 acres in Orange and Riverside Counties. The WRAP Act will help equip our communities with the manpower and tools needed to contain wildfires and save lives.”

“Californians are far too familiar with wildfires tearing through our communities, threatening lives, public health and property. The only way to counter increasingly dangerous wildfires is by responding to them as quickly as possible. I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan, commonsense legislation which would protect our firefighters, save federal lands and prevent catastrophic loss of life and property across the country,” said Congressman Gray.

“The Western Fire Chiefs Association is proud to support the core mission of the Wildfire Response and Preparedness Act – ensuring a robust wildland fire response capability to stem the threat of catastrophic wildfires. Through effective partnerships and strategically leveraging local air and ground resources for fire response, we can give our brave first responders the clarity and tools they need to save lives and keep our communities safe,” said Bob Roper, CEO, Western Fire Chiefs Association.

“The United Aerial Firefighters Association greatly supports this bill to develop aerial response standards. This will ensure there are aircraft available to respond to incidents and support the firefighters on the ground,” said Paul Petersen, Executive Director, United Aerial Firefighters Association.

Sens. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) and Andy Kim (D-NJ) introduced companion legislation in the Senate.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Malliotakis Leads Bipartisan Legislation to Strengthen U.S. Medical & Pharmaceutical Supply Chains

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11)

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis introduced the Medical Supply Chain Resiliency Act alongside Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL) and Senators  Chris Coons (D-DE), Thom Tillis (R-NC), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Michael Bennet (D-CO). This bicameral and bipartisan legislation would authorize the United States to negotiate Trusted Trade Partner Agreements, aimed at reducing barriers that discourage manufacturing in the U.S. and partner countries. These agreements would also promote regulatory cooperation and other key trade provisions.

To qualify as a Trusted Trade Partner, countries must demonstrate a commitment to global health security, uphold trade agreement compliance, protect U.S. intellectual property, and take steps to reduce trade barriers while promoting sound regulatory practices. Some potential candidates include Singapore, Indonesia, Ireland, Poland, and Switzerland.

The legislation aims to strengthen global medical supply chains, enhancing U.S. national security and public health while ensuring preparedness for future pandemics. It empowers the U.S. Trade Representative to negotiate Trusted Trade Partner Agreements, reducing barriers like tariffs and quotas that discourage manufacturing in the U.S. and allied nations. Additionally, it promotes regulatory cooperation and expands access to government procurement opportunities.

“If COVID taught us anything it is that it’s crucial that we reduce our reliance on foreign nations, especially adversaries like Communist China, for essential lifesaving supplies such as pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Strengthening domestic production will enhance national security, ensure a stable supply of critical medications and medical equipment, and protect Americans from future disruptions,” said Rep. Nicole Malliotakis.

“The Medical Supply Chain Resiliency Act is a critical step toward ensuring that America’s healthcare providers have reliable access to the essential supplies they need, by strengthening trade partnerships with our allies and expanding domestic manufacturing, we can enhance our nation’s preparedness for future health challenges. I’m proud to support this bipartisan effort to reinforce our medical supply chains and protect public health,” said Senator Thom Tillis.

“During the pandemic, the U.S. faced severe shortages of medical supplies due to overreliance on foreign adversaries like China, this legislation would allow the U.S. to engage in trade negotiations with trusted allies for medical goods and services, helping ensure we’re better prepared to respond to future global health crises,” said Senator John Cornyn.

“Life-threatening shortages of testing kits, drugs, and masks during the COVID-19 pandemic showed us just how fragile our medical supply chains are. If we are caught off-guard like we were during COVID once again, more Americans will die, working with our most trusted trading partners to make our supply chains more resilient will strengthen our response to future public health emergencies while ensuring health care providers have access to essential medical products and patients have access to life-saving care,” said Senator Chris Coons.

“The Chamber strongly supports the Medical Supply Chain Resilience Act, which will strengthen supply chains for medical goods and services while bolstering manufacturing in the U.S. and among our close allies and partners. Enhancing the resilience of medical supply chains is important to both our public health and our national security,” said the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President for International Policy John Murphy.

“The Medical Supply Chain Resiliency Act is the type of positive approach to trade America must embrace to deepen its economic partnerships with key allies. By empowering the United States Trade Representative to negotiate new agreements with trusted trade partners, the United States has the opportunity to strengthen supply chain security, support U.S. innovation and jobs, and, ultimately, improve health outcomes. It is critically important that the United States collaborate with its allies to support the public health demands of our populations and prepare to meet the challenges of the next global health emergency. NFTC applauds Senators Tillis, Coons, Cornyn, and Bennet for championing this legislation, and urges Congress to support its swift passage,” said National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC).

Earlier this year, Malliotakis reintroduced the Supply Chain Security and Growth Act of 2025, bipartisan legislation that would leverage Investment Tax Credits (ITCs) to facilitate a rapid movement of critical U.S. supply chains to Puerto Rico from less desirable and unreliable locations such as China with Reps. Jimmy Panetta (CA-19), Vern Buchanan (FL-16), Nydia Velazquez (NY-07), Mike Kelly (PA-16), Mike Lawler (NY-17) and Resident Commissioner Pablo Hernandez (PR-AL).

  • MIL-OSI USA: This Gun Violence Prevention Month, Congressmen Amo, Neguse, Thompson Lead 60 Colleagues in Calling on Senate to Strip the Provision Deregulating Firearm Silencers from Republicans’ Big, Bad Bill

Source: US Congressman Gabe Amo (Rhode Island 1st District)

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI), Assistant Leader Neguse (D-CO), and Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chair Mike Thompson (D-CA) led over 60 members of the Democratic Caucus in sending a letter to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, urging them to remove language that eliminates excise taxes on firearm silencers and deregulates their use under the National Firearms Act currently included in the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

    READ THE FULL LETTER HERE.

Congressman Amo spoke at the marathon House Rules Committee hearing against Republicans’ last-minute move to eliminate firearm silencer regulations. A silencer, when attached to the barrel of a firearm, muffles the sound of gunfire—obstructing law enforcement efforts to respond to active shooters and making it more difficult to recognize the sound of gunfire and locate the source of gunshots quickly and effectively.

“In the dead of night, our Republican colleagues added a provision (Sec. 112029) to H.R.1 that would remove firearm silencers from the NFA. This change, which was ultimately included in the legislation, would be catastrophic to public safety and greatly impede law enforcement efforts to keep our communities safe,” wrote Amo, Neguse, and Thompson.

The lawmakers continued: “As you know, the so-called ‘Byrd Rule’ under the Congressional Budget Act makes clear that, in short, non-budgetary provisions cannot be included in reconciliation legislation. Removing the regulatory structure for firearm silencers is thus not only dangerous, but blatantly violative of the Byrd Rule. Put simply, the provision represents a clear attempt to make a significant policy change to a century-old law, and cannot be adopted through the reconciliation process on that basis alone.”

“Congress has long maintained strong regulations for firearm silencers under the NFA for good reason. Law enforcement has identified silencers in crimes across the country–including in mass shootings in Monterey Park, California, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and by a gunman that killed two police officers during a 10-day shooting spree in Southern California. Furthermore, according to data from the ATF, in 2023 alone, over 400 silencers were recovered and traced from violent crime scenes. It is with this in mind, that we strongly urge you to remove Section 112029, and any provision that would deregulate and eliminate excise taxes on firearm silencers as the Senate considers the FY25 reconciliation bill. If enacted, these provisions would place the public and our brave law enforcement officers in harm’s way. The American people and our law enforcement deserve better,” they concluded

The full letter is supported by Brady: United Against Gun Violence, Everytown for Gun Safety, and Giffords.

“The inclusion of the deregulation of silencers under the National Firearms Act in the budget reconciliation bill is unconscionable and demonstrates a complete disregard for public safety. In the wrong hands, silencers are extremely dangerous as they make it much more difficult for victims, bystanders, and law enforcement to recognize and react to gunfire and to identify shooters, even when in close proximity. Deregulating these under the NFA devices will enable mass shooters and other bad actors, putting the lives of law enforcement and the public at risk across the nation,” said Mark Collins, Director of Federal Policy at Brady.

“The silencer provisions in this bill will put law enforcement and our communities at greater risk from gun violence while costing taxpayers more than a billion dollars. We urge the Senate to remove these harmful provisions, and thank Rep. Neguse for his leadership on this issue,” said Monisha Henley, Everytown’s Senior Vice President, Government Affairs.

“Instead of fighting crime and keeping American families safe, House Republicans gave gun industry CEOs a $1.5 billion tax break to boost their bottom line. Silencers enable shooters to cause more violence without being detected. Law enforcement has opposed efforts to sell silencers without background checks for a reason — they make law enforcement’s jobs harder. We thank Rep. Neguse for his leadership on this issue, and urge the Senate to keep silencers out of the hands of dangerous people,” said Emma Brown, Executive Director of GIFFORDS.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Davis Votes for to Protect Eastern NC from Lethal Drugs

Source: US Congressman Don Davis (NC-01)

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) voted for a third time to support a version of S. 331, the Halt All Lethal Trafficking of (HALT) Fentanyl Act, which passed the House by a margin of 321-104.

The bill permanently classifies all fentanyl-related substances as the most dangerous type of drug, Schedule I, unless specifically listed otherwise. The bill also makes it easier for researchers to get permission to study these substances. A temporary law that did this expired on March 31.

“We must continue taking action to stop fentanyl and other illegal drugs from infiltrating our communities across eastern North Carolina and America,” said Congressman Don Davis. “By passing the HALT Fentanyl Act, we can combat drug trafficking while working to ensure that families, including children, no longer have to suffer from devastating poisonings and overdoses.”

Congressman Davis has made addressing the fentanyl crisis in eastern North Carolina a top priority. He has met continuously with local law enforcement officials to hear firsthand accounts of the drug’s toll on the region. He has spoken on the House floor about its impact on rural communities, advocating for families and individuals affected by fentanyl. The congressman has also visited the southern border and multiple detention centers to better understand how fentanyl is entering the country and dispersing throughout the state of North Carolina.

Congressman Davis has been a leader in the fight to combat   the opioid and crisis, including:

    • Sponsored H.R. 1060, the Modern and Authentication of Pharmaceuticals  (MAP) Act, to enhance federal data collection and response.
    • Cosponsored H.R. 2964, the Fight Fentanyl Act, to expand overdose prevention and community-based education.
    • Co-led H.R. 1294, the BEST Facilitations Act, to improve fentanyl detection and screening at ports of entry.
    • H.R. 1569, the CATCH Fentanyl Act, to support local anti-drug efforts through law enforcement partnerships.

Congressman Davis previously voted for previous versions of S. 331, including H.R. 467 in the 118th Congress and H.R. 27 in the 119th Congress, the latter of which passed the House on February 6, 2025, by a margin of 312-208.

Congressman Davis continues to advocate for funding involving addiction treatment, prevention programs, and rural health systems, emphasizing the urgent need to combat the fentanyl epidemic head-on in eastern North Carolina and throughout the United States.

“I feel really excited about being in D.C.,” said Valerie Jacobson, first-place winner of North Carolina’s First Congressional District’s Congressional Art Competition. “I’m excited to be surrounded by all of the art and the city’s incredible architecture.”

Jacobson, a homeschool student from Farm Life Country Day School in Martin County, earned first place in the North Carolina Congressional Art Competition this April with her powerful piece “The Unbothered Sister.” The artwork will be displayed for the next year in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol,  a passageway traveled daily by Congressman Don Davis, fellow members of Congress, staff, and visitors from around the world.

“Eastern North Carolina is so proud of Valerie for her incredible artwork,” said Congressman Davis. “For the next year, each time I walk to the House floor, I’ll get to see her art and be reminded of the power of young artists in the East. Her piece beautifully represents the best of eastern North Carolina’s talent.”

The national reception at the Capitol Visitor Center brought together student artists nationwide to view their winning pieces and meet Members of Congress and Capitol Hill staff. Jacobson also enjoyed a special tour of the Capitol given by the Office of Congressman Davis, highlighting the beauty and history of the iconic Capitol building.

“I think it’s super cool that my art is hanging up in the Capitol,” said Jacobson. “It’s really interesting to see other people’s art from around the country and see how I can improve after winning this and where I want to go from here.”

“I am so proud of my daughter,” said Mary Jacobsonmother of Valerie Jacobson. “She put so much hard work into creating this piece. It has been very exciting to be here, to walk through the Gallery, and see her artwork hanging in our country’s Capitol.”

More than 30 students from across eastern North Carolina submitted entries for the Congressional Art Competition, which showcased the region’s strong tradition of talent and creativity and built on its rich artistic heritage.

“We have been crystal clear that the SALT deal we negotiated in good faith with the Speaker and the White House must remain in the final bill. It not only upholds President Trump’s commitment to raise the SALT cap, but has been praised by middle-class families, firefighters, law enforcement, small business owners, and hardworking Americans across the country. Instead of undermining the deal already in place and putting the entire bill at risk, the Senate should work with us to keep our promise of historic tax relief and deliver on our Republican agenda,” said Kim and Garbarino.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Zinke Urges Secretary of Interior to Address Flathead Lake Levels

Source: US Congressman Ryan Zinke (Western Montana)

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Western Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke sent a letter to Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum urging immediate action to address the projected low water levels of Flathead Lake this summer. The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT), which operate the SKQ Dam, are currently projecting lake levels as much as three feet below full pool this summer. Current water volume supply forecast predicts only 72% of the average annual water supply. Congressman Zinke is calling for increased water releases from Hungry Horse Reservoir and cooperation with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes to reduce outflows from the SKQ Dam in order to stabilize lake levels.

“Montana is facing one of its driest seasons on record, and unless action is taken now, we’re looking at a repeat, or worse, of the water crisis on Flathead Lake,” said Zinke, “Our small businesses, farmers, ranchers, and communities cannot afford another devastating season. While releasing from Hungry Horse and reducing flow from the dam will not bring the lake to full pool, it will help prevent a catastrophic drop.”

In 2023, Flathead Lake dropped more than two feet below full-pool due to low snowpack and regional drought. The resulting impacts on local irrigators and small businesses that depend on summer recreation was severe. A University of Montana study estimates that Flathead County sees roughly $600 million in annual spending from lake-based tourism alone.

Congressman Zinke has led the charge on address low water levels at Flathead Lake, introducing the Fill the Lake Act in 2023 and reintroducing the bill this Congress.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Fallon Introduces the MERICA Act

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Pat Fallon (TX-04)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Pat Fallon (TX-04) introduced the Mineral Extraction for Renewable Industry and Critical Applications (‘MERICA) Act, which would amend the Mineral Leasing Act for Acquired Lands (MLAAL), clarifying that all lands acquired by the federal government are eligible to be considered for hardrock mineral leasing.

This legislation is cosponsored by Representative Nathaniel Moran (TX-01).

“I am proud to introduce a common-sense solution to unleash America’s mineral wealth. This bill would amend current law so that all federally acquired lands can be considered for hardrock mineral leasing,” said Rep. Fallon. “Right now, in places like my district, we have valuable lithium deposits locked up on federal lands, and we cannot utilize them. The MERICA Act would give the Secretary of the Interior the authority to follow through on President Trump’s Executive Order to ramp up mineral production on federal lands.” Rep. Fallon continued, “By tapping into these critical resources, we can strengthen our economy, bolster national security, and ensure America stays a global leader.”

Rep. Moran commented, “The MERICA Act will strengthen America’s ability to produce the critical minerals we need—right here at home, not from China. This is about creating opportunity, driving investment, and helping keep our nation self-reliant. I’m proud to stand with Congressman Fallon in advancing this important bill for Texas and for our country.”

On the introduction of this bill, Scott Norton, Executive Director & CEO of TexAmericas Center commented, “TexAmericas Center appreciates Congressman Pat Fallon for introducing legislation to amend the Mineral Leasing Act for Acquired Lands in support of increasing access to critical hard rock minerals on federal lands and their continued efforts to create capital investment and quality jobs in our region. Congressman Fallon and TexAmericas Center have been working together well over a year, resulting in a strong working relationship that has resulted in measurable success and a path forward to make lithium extraction a reality in Northeast Texas.  We are hopeful the passage and enactment of this legislation will move Northeast Texas towards lithium production in the near future.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Gabe Vasquez Blasts Backroom Senate Deal to Steal 3.3 Million Acres of Public Lands

Source: US Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) issued a strong condemnation of a last-minute provision added to the Senate reconciliation proposal that would authorize the sale of up to 3.3 million acres of public lands across the American West.

“As an avid outdoorsman, conservationist, and co-founder of the bipartisan Public Lands Caucus, I am outraged by the Senate’s last-minute attempt to sell off millions of acres of our public lands. Just weeks after our efforts rejected a similar effort in the House, this new provision is even worse, threatening up to 3.3 million acres of public lands across the West, including right here in New Mexico.

“There’s been no public input and no consultation with the communities who live, work, and depend on these lands. And the proposal itself doesn’t even require public hearings on the disposal of the land. Stripping public lands out of the hands of the American people to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy is not just bad policy — it’s morally indefensible.

“Our public lands are not a bargaining chip and they are not a piggy bank for billionaires. They are our legacy. I will fight this shameless attempt to sell off the soul of the West with everything I’ve got to make sure your children and grandchildren can enjoy these lands for generations to come.”

Rep. Vasquez has been a vocal champion for land conservation, rural economic development, and outdoor access, and will continue to work with allies across the aisle to defeat this provision and safeguard the public lands that belong to all Americans.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Stephanie Bice (OK-05)

Washington, D.C.– The Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 (P.L. 93-344) sets up a process through which an administration may request that Congress rescind previously appropriated funds. Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to eliminate $9.4 billion in unobligated spending at the State Department, USAID, CBP, and other programs. In total, there were 22 rescissions.

Congresswoman Bice issued the following statement:

“The United States is on an unsustainable fiscal path with the national debt nearing $37 trillion dollars. This is why I voted for the rescission package, which seeks to codify DOGE’s mission to root out waste, fraud, and abuse. The United States should not be spending nearly a million dollars on electoral reform and voter education in Kenya, a million dollars for voter ID in Haiti, $500,000 for electric buses in Uganda, or $643,000 for LGBTQ programs in the Western Balkans.”

“I also want to address funding for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting. This rescissions package will not affect emergency alert systems, which are vital for states like Oklahoma. While NPR plays a crucial role locally, this rescission package only targets 1% of their federal dollars. Furthermore, for too long, NPR has promoted left-wing narratives and have funded left-wing causes in violation of the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967. Political bias should not exist in government funded broadcasting.”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager California (37th District)

LOS ANGELES – Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) and Mayor Bass were joined today by nearly 30 Congressional and state legislators to call for an end to immigration raids ahead of the President’s military march this weekend. Watch the press conference here

    Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove

“Trump is manufacturing chaos in Los Angeles, using our city as his movie set to justify his authoritarian crackdowns and cruel ICE raids. This is all a distraction. To distract from the fact that Trump isn’t going after ‘criminals,’ but citizens, legal immigrants, and immigrants seeking legal status the right way. To distract from his effort to cut $880 billion from Medicaid. To distract from his destruction of our economy through his Temper Tariffs. These are the real issues that the American people care about—and we will not be distracted.”

    Mayor Karen Bass

“We are here today because the White House ordered raids of home depots, they took over our state’s national guard, and they activated the U.S. Marines. Let me be clear – Los Angeles is not a war zone. What you’re seeing and hearing out of this Administration is not representative of our city, of our state, of our country. The Trump Administration has caused unnecessary chaos and fear in our city and across the country. It’s not keeping anyone safe. We’ve come together today to demonstrate the American values of tolerance, freedom, and a respect for our Constitution and to show the world what L.A. is really about.”

Senate President Pro Tem Mike McGuire

“Our rights, our freedoms, and our Constitution are under attack. America’s armed forces have been illegally deployed in our communities, our representatives have been threatened and detained, and a sitting U.S. Senator has been handcuffed and muzzled. Today, it’s Los Angeles County in the crosshairs, but make no mistake, tomorrow it could be your community, your neighborhood, or your family. These are the actions of an authoritarian not the leader of the free world. This cannot continue. We’re grateful to Mayor Bass for standing up for all Angelenos and demanding action and accountability from the Trump Administration.”

    Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas

“Here in California, we are not going to be intimidated. I stand as the first Speaker of the California State Assembly born to immigrant farmworkers. This is personal. My family came from Mexico seeking opportunity, and they found it — in the fields, in the classroom and in the promise of this state. That promise still belongs to every Californian, no matter where they were born or how long they’ve been here.”

    Congresswoman Judy Chu

“Tonight, I am honored to stand alongside local and federal leaders in Los Angeles to demand an end to the ICE raids and to speak out against Trump’s dangerous militarization of our communities. This is not what public safety looks like, this is fear, intimidation, and overreach. Enough is enough, Los Angeles deserves peace, dignity, and compassion, not armored vehicles and mass arrests.”

    Congressman Mark Takano

“I am proud of this state, I am proud of the community which I represent, and I am proud of the leadership of this state who are showing the world that we will not be ruled by a king. We will continue to use our voice to object to ICE’s inflammatory tactics to meet arbitrary deportation quotas. My community and constituents deserve more out of a President and our Country.”

    Congresswoman Norma Torres

“We will not stand by as we see the Trump Administration break the law and harm our state. They are continuing to deploy ICE, the National Guard and the Marines into our city streets without legal authority or coordination with local officials. That’s not just dangerous—it’s unlawful and unnecessary. This kind of unilateral action wastes taxpayer dollars and directly undermines the stability of California—the world’s fourth-largest economy and the backbone of the United States. I am proud to see California’s Congressional Delegation and Mayor Bass standing united to protect our communities, uphold the rule of law, and support the people of Los Angeles.”

    Assemblymember Tina McKinnor

“This President and his Administration? They not like us. On behalf of the 10 million people that call LA County home, we have a simple message for the current President of the United States. STOP. Mr. President, stop violating the constitutional rights of the people of LA County. Mr. President, stop violating the due process rights of the people of LA County. Mr. President, stop provoking fear and violence in LA County. LA is strong, diverse and resilient. Our resilience is our strength and we will not be intimidated by anyone threatening our peace. Including threats by this President.”

    Senator María Elena Durazo
“The Trump Administration is detaining everyday workers, denying them due process, and summarily deporting them. It’s deploying military forces against our own peaceful citizens. Make no mistake, this is an unprecedented assault on our democracy. We all must organize peacefully, defend our communities from this authoritarian overreach, and stand united in our defense to protect everyone’s constitutional rights.”

    Assemblymember Mark González
“I’m not just speaking today as an Assemblymember — I’m speaking as a son of Los Angeles. I grew up in these neighborhoods. I’ve seen the fear ICE has brought into our homes — parents hiding, children walking alone, families torn apart. This is not justice. This is trauma. But Los Angeles does not live in fear — we rise in love, in courage, and in community. I want to thank Mayor Karen Bass for her steady, principled leadership in this moment. She’s shown what it means to lead with both strength and compassion. So I’m calling on our people: check on your neighbors. Show up for one another. Speak out, organize, and lead with the values that built this city. Because when we stand together, no raid, no troop, no fear can divide us. This is Los Angeles. And we take care of our own.”

    Assemblymember José Luis Solache

“The families I represent are hardworking people who came here to chase their dreams, not to be treated like criminals. They contribute to our economy, they strengthen our communities, and they deserve dignity. I urge the President to stop these raids, return federal resources to where they belong, and respect the humanity of our people. We stand with peaceful demonstrations, and we will continue to lift our voices with unity and heart.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Dan Goldman Bashes Elise Stefanik for Using Congressional Committee for Her Gubernatorial Campaign, Condemns Republicans for Rubber Stamping Trump’s Authoritarian ICE Raids

Source: US Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10)

Rep. Dan Goldman: “I’m sorry you have to deal with this crap. Governor Hochul, I want you to know, as a proud member of the delegation of your state, I am not going to use my five minutes to mount a campaign for governor against you as my colleague from the North chose to do.”

Goldman: “You’re going after people who actually are going through the lawful process you say they should. But just because Donald Trump and Stephen Miller need to bump up their numbers because they can’t do a good enough job in actually finding convicted criminals, you’re going after Moms and Dads, separating parents from children. You have a voice, Republicans. Speak up.”

Watch the Full Committee Exchange Here

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10) today excoriated Rep. Elise Stefanik for her desperate theatrics in the Oversight Committee that were clearly designed to generate five minutes of internet fame in pursuit of her quixotic 2026 gubernatorial campaign. Goldman then challenged committee Republicans to stand up to the Trump administration’s authoritarian crackdown on law-abiding, non-violent immigrants.

A rough transcript of the committee is available below. Watch Congressman Goldman’s committee remarks here.

Rep. Dan Goldman: Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

I would urge you to reserve comment on what happened to Mr. Padilla until you get full information. In fact, I would urge all of my Republican colleagues to take a breath before you once again desperately run to bend the knee to Donald Trump and to Kristi Noem, because anyone with two eyes that can see can see that that was authoritarian, lawless behavior that no person in America, much less a senator conducting constitutional oversight, should have received.

And I know it’s hard for all of you to speak up against Donald Trump and that’s why we’re here at this hearing, talking all about Joe Biden, talking all about Joe Biden’s policy.

Is it just because you’re consistently trying to ignore the fact that Joe Biden is not President? Donald Trump is President. And what he’s doing right now, which you all know, is he is going after people who are lawfully present.

Now, I appreciate the governors being here. I’m sorry you have to deal with this crap. Governor Hochul, I want you to know, as a proud member of the delegation of your state, I am not going to use my five minutes to mount a campaign for governor against you as my colleague from the North chose to do.

I will give you the opportunity to actually answer some questions, unlike she did. And I will allow you to explain exactly what the policies in New York are, as it relates to cooperation between the state and federal agents.

    Governor Hochul:

First of all, I’m glad you’re not running against me. Thank you. Secondly, I appreciate the opportunity to break through all the noise here today and to stop the talking points that keep mischaracterizing our policies in the great state of New York.

New York is not a sanctuary or a haven for criminals. We devote an enormous amount of our energy working to keep New Yorkers safe. $2.5 billion, I’ve allocated just in the last few years.

We do cooperate with ICE when it comes to investigating or building a case against criminals.

We do this all the time, and when someone goes through the criminal justice system in the state of New York, they do their time in prison.

We alert ICE 30 days in advance of when they’re to be removed, and we send them away. That’s how it’s supposed to work. But what we do not do under our laws is divert our essential resources that protect everyday New Yorkers from crimes themselves, and have that help ICE with civil immigration enforcement. That is their job. That is the federal government’s job. And we cannot be told to enforce federal laws.

Goldman: Or to use all your limited resources to spend all that time doing their job.

Hochul: My concern is that every minute that ICE officers are going after moms and dads and kids and separating families, perhaps one more criminal is still out there at large.

Goldman: I actually, in my district office down in lower Manhattan, witnessed ICE officers waiting for immigrants to come out of a courtroom.

These are immigrants who have asylum applications. And I’m sure you agree with me that asylum is a lawful pathway to immigrate to this country. Is that correct?

    Hochul: That is absolutely correct.

Goldman: So, in order to make these immigrants here unlawfully, the DHS is now dismissing their cases, their own removal proceedings against them to void out the asylum claim. That way, when they go downstairs in the elevator, there are ICE agents that can be there to arrest them and put them in expedited removal.

And they don’t have an asylum claim that is live anymore because they’ve just voided it out. These are non-criminal, nonviolent immigrants who are here going through the lawful process. And this is who the Trump Administration is going after every single day. It’s a disgrace.

You said you were going to go after the worst of the worst. You were going to go after convicted criminals. You’re here questioning about all these criminals.

You’re going after people who actually are going through the lawful process you say they should. But just because Donald Trump and Stephen Miller need to bump up their numbers because they can’t do a good enough job in actually finding convicted criminals, you’re going after moms, dads, separating parents from children.

You have a voice. Republicans speak up.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Dan Goldman’s Statement on Israel’s Military Operation Against Iran’s Nuclear Program

Source: US Congressman Dan Goldman (NY-10)

“One fundamental objective must guide our foreign policy in the Middle East: Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon. This week, the International Atomic Energy Agency concluded that this possibility was closer than ever and censured Iran for violating its obligations.

“Iran has principally funded and supported the terrorist groups Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis in their quest to eradicate Israel and western democracy writ large. At this dangerous time, diplomacy must continue to be the primary pathway towards ensuring a denuclearized Iran. But Iran must engage in diplomatic talks in good faith, not while rushing to build a nuclear bomb.

“While our Administration’s first priority is to ensure the safety and security of U.S. forces throughout the region, the United States must also defend our democratic ally and strategic partner Israel and continue to work with our regional partners to prevent a broader conflict.

“My prayers are with all those who may be in harm’s way.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: ICYMI: Rep. Hinson Joins The Signal Sitdown

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-01)

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-02) joined Daily Signal’s Bradley Devlin on The Signal Sitdown podcast. The two discussed the media bias contributing to the cover-up of President Biden’s mental decline, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, countering the CCP’s illicit practices, and more.

China Has Secret Police in the US. This Congresswoman Is Trying to Stop It.
    The Daily Signal
    Bradley Devlin
    June 12, 2025

In December 2024, Chen Jinping, a 60-year-old Manhattan resident, pleaded guilty to opening and operating a secret Chinese police station for China’s Ministry of Public Security in Manhattan’s Chinatown neighborhood. Chen was arrested with “Harry” Lu Jianwang in April 2023, following an FBI investigation into the outpost.

Though these arrests were the first of their kind, according to Justice Department officials, American authorities suspect that China has these kinds of outposts all over the country.

And China’s nefarious activities in New York City hardly scratch the surface. For decades, Chinese operatives have infiltrated American universities and companies, smuggled drugs and human beings across America’s borders, and stolen American intellectual property and technology—even corn seeds from fields in Iowa.

President Donald Trump was one of the first to see the threat of China clearly. Under the president’s leadership, Republicans in Congress are trying to prevent and punish this malign Chinese activity. This week, one of the House Republicans spearheading that effort, Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, joins “The Signal Sitdown” to discuss.

“My passion for this policy started in my district,” Hinson said. The aforementioned seed-stealing spies were operating in Hinson’s backyard. “There was actually a Chinese spy ring busted stealing seeds out of a cornfield in Dysart, Iowa.”

“They wanted to take them back to China. They want to cheat,” Hinson explained. “It’s all about reverse engineering because there is so much R&D that has gone into seed technology so that we can grow the most resilient, best yielding plants in the world.”

China’s unfair trade practices can often be more subtle than outright theft, however. “[The Chinese] are using tactics like transnational shipment,” Hinson told The Daily Signal.

“So, especially in the auto-parts industry, for example,” Hinson explained, “something coming in from China is gonna be tariffed, so then they ship it through Singapore or Vietnam or someplace with a lesser tariff to get around our tariff laws.”

“They’re economically cheating and getting a better deal,” Hinson continued. “Meanwhile, you’ve got American producers trying to play on that same playing field and it’s not level.”

Hinson has introduced the Protecting American Industry and Labor from International Trade Crimes Act with Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party Chairman John Moolenaar, R-Mich., and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., to provide federal law enforcement more capacity to crack down on these trade practices.

“What we’re trying to do is make sure that President Trump’s Department of Justice… [will have] the resources and a specific task force to be able to go after these malign actors who are, again, intentionally cheating,” she explained.

“We think this cost is hundreds of billions of dollars every year on the low end,” Hinson said. “This has been decades in the making, right? You’ve got entire industries that have been ceded and now China owns them.”
