  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Gabe Vasquez Delivers Critical Federal Funding to Strengthen Public Safety, Community Development and Energy Resilience in Southwestern New Mexico

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

LORDSBURG, N.M. – On Monday, October 7, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (N.M.-02) spent the day meeting with officials from Lordsburg and Deming to deliver critical funding for southwestern New Mexico’s communities. Vasquez secured federal investments for the Luna County Mobile Command Center, Lordsburg Community Center and the Southline Transmission Project to strengthen public safety, community development and energy resilience.

“After listening to constituents and local leaders, I’m proud to deliver these investments to ensure the safety, well-being and future prosperity of our communities,” said Vasquez. “From improving public safety with the Luna Mobile Command Center, to providing a hub for families in Lordsburg, to modernizing our energy infrastructure with the Southline Transmission Project, we are building a stronger, more resilient New Mexico. In Congress, I’ll continue to fight for the federal support our district deserves to grow and thrive.”

Vasquez secured $500,000 for the Luna Mobile Command Center Project, a crucial investment in public safety that will directly support law enforcement and first responders. The new command center will ensure that emergency personnel have access to better equipment and communication tools to respond swiftly and effectively. This project underscores Vasquez’s commitment to strengthening public safety initiatives, ensuring that local agencies are fully equipped to protect the community and manage emergencies with the highest level of coordination and efficiency.

“We are so appreciative of Representative Gabe Vasquez, who has always been a good neighbor. I’ve seen him down here countless times and he is always in contact with us. And when it comes to public safety, this is not just a county mobile command unit for the county, but also for state police and Deming police. Without this funding from Representative Vasquez, we could not afford something like this. When you get $500,000, it just shows you the tremendous support we’ve got from Representative Vasquez,” said Luna County Manager Chris Brice.

“I am really appreciative that Luna County was awarded $500,000 to help provide upgrades for law enforcement and the incident command unit. It’s time for an upgrade, and I appreciate Congressman Vasquez for getting this money down to Luna County,” said Luna County Commissioner Ray Trejo.

In Lordsburg, Vasquez also delivered a $500,000 check for the renovation of the Lordsburg Community Center, a key investment in supporting families and strengthening rural communities. The renovated center will provide expanded recreational opportunities for local families and youth, offering a safe and welcoming space for children. It will also serve as a hub for community gatherings and events, creating new opportunities for residents to come together. This project reflects Vasquez’s commitment to enhancing quality of life in rural New Mexico.

“I want to commend Representative Gabe Vasquez and the City of Lordsburg for taking the initiative to make some community improvements here. In rural New Mexico it seems like we are always forgotten. When we have someone like Representative Vasquez looking out for our small community, we know that we’ll see some economic growth here,” said Hidalgo County Manager Tisha Green.

Vasquez was also joined by leaders for the Southline Transmission Project to highlight a significant step forward for New Mexico’s clean energy future. Last week, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced that the Southline Transmission Project has been chosen as one of five recipients as part of a $1.5 billion commitment to improve the electric grid nationwide. With this funding, Southline will construct the second phase of its project to deliver 1,000 megawatts of new capacity between Hidalgo County and Las Cruces, lowering utility bills for New Mexicans. As one of his first acts in office, Vasquez wrote to DOE in support of the Southline Transmission Project to bring high-paying jobs to rural communities and invest in New Mexico’s renewable energy future.

“I’m very appreciative of Representative Vasquez and our Congressional Delegation for doing the work to bring money back to rural New Mexico. The Transmission Siting and Economic Development grant program is going to create great economic opportunities for the city of Lordsburg and the residents of Hidalgo County through infrastructure improvement, downtown revitalization and entrepreneur training. We’re excited to have this here in Lordsburg and ready to get started,” saidEmily Gojkovich, Lordsburg Economic Development Specialist.

Since serving New Mexico in Congress, Vasquez has been fighting for our district’s fair share of funding. Each year, Congress is responsible for passing Appropriations legislation to fund federal agencies. After hearing directly from constituents about what the federal budget should prioritize, Vasquez submitted 15 proposals for Community Project Funding each year on an array of issues ranging from supporting families to public safety investments to infrastructure improvements.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Gabe Vasquez Votes to Pass Bipartisan Spending Bill to Fund Government, Avert Shutdown

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Gabe Vasquez’s (NM-02)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On September 25, 2024, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (N.M.-02) voted to pass a bipartisan spending bill to keep the government funded through a continuing resolution.

“The bipartisan spending bill ensures the federal government can continue providing essential services to every corner of New Mexico. From wildfire response to veteran support to nutritional assistance for families, we are protecting the programs that our communities depend on,” said Vasquez.“This bill is just the start—we must continue to work towards a long-term funding solution that provides stability for our government, our economy and the people we serve. Americans deserve a government that doesn’t jump from crisis to crisis.  I remain committed to coming to the table to work with my colleagues across the aisle to keep the government open.”

The continuing resolution would protect the U.S. Forest Service’s ability to fight wildfires and prioritize fire suppression efforts, while extending the deadline for Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance. It also extends the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s authority to provide benefits to those who have had their SNAP benefits stolen to ensure all New Mexicans still have access to the full SNAP benefits they need.

The resolution also grants emergency funding for the Department of Defense to use funds for military construction projects and provides critical funding to the Secret Service to protect presidential candidates.

Vasquez will continue fighting for additional disaster aid to ensure New Mexicans affected by natural disasters receive the funding and support they deserve.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Feenstra Helps Introduce Legislation to Deport Illegal Immigrants Convicted of Sex Crimes

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Randy Feenstra (IA-04)

HULL, IOWA – Last week, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) helped introduce the Better Enforcement of Grievous Offenses by Unnaturalized Emigrants (BE GONE) Act, which would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to classify sexual assault and aggravated sexual violence as aggravated felonies, and thus, deportable offenses.

U.S. Senators Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) introduced this legislation in the U.S. Senate.

“According to data recently released by ICE, there are over 660,000 illegal immigrants with criminal records – including nearly 16,000 with sexual assault convictions – on the loose in our communities. These numbers are infuriating and are the result of the Biden-Harris administration’s dangerous, open-border policies,” said Rep. Feenstra. “I’m glad to work with Senator Ernst and Senator Grassley to introduce legislation to deport illegal immigrants who have been convicted of sex crimes. It is just common sense to remove criminals from our communities so that we can keep our kids and families safe.”

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Greg Casar (D-Texas)

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Greg Casar (D-Texas) released the following statement:

“October 7th is a dark and horrific day for Israelis and Jewish people across the world. More Jewish people were killed at once than any day since the Holocaust, and Hamas still holds Americans and scores of Israelis hostage. In the days after October 7th, tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli government’s bombardment of Gaza and operations in the West Bank. Over two thousand Lebanese people have been killed, and more than a million have been displaced. The region is on the brink of what could be an even more massive war. Hardly a soul is safer or more free.

“We must change course toward peace. We must stop this cycle of violence by all parties before it consumes even more innocent families across the region and across the world. Israel should stop its bombing, Iran and Hezbollah should stop their bombing, Hamas should return the hostages, and the United States should be brokering peace, rather than further contributing to the devastation by shipping weapons. Let us honor the dead by protecting the living.”

Congressman Greg Casar represents Texas’s 35th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, which runs down I-35 from East Austin to Hays County to the West Side of San Antonio.  A labor organizer and son of Mexican immigrants, Casar serves as the Whip of the Congressional Progressive Caucus for the 118th Congress. He also serves on the Committee on Oversight and Accountability and the Committee on Agriculture.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Issa Introduces Legislation Reforming Third-Party Financed Civil Litigation

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-50)

WASHINGTON – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet, and Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) introduced the Litigation Transparency Act of 2024, which requires the disclosure of parties receiving payment in civil lawsuits.

In hundreds of cases every year, civil litigation is funded by undisclosed third-party interests – including hedge funds, commercial lenders, and sovereign wealth funds operating through shell companies. In response, the bill would require disclosure of investors who have a right to receive payment based on the outcome of a case, as well as the disclosure of the financing agreement between investors and parties to the civil action. Third-party litigation funding also poses unique challenges in patent litigation cases, where investor-backed entities seek large settlements against American companies.

“Our legislation targets serious and continuing abuses in our litigation system and achieves a level of transparency that people deserve, and our standard of law requires,” said Rep. Issa. “We believe that if a third-party investor is financing a lawsuit in federal court, it should be disclosed rather than hidden from the world and left absent from the facts of a case. When we achieve a lasting measure of awareness by all parties, it will advance fair and equal treatment by the justice system and deter bad actors from exploiting our courts.

“As a former state legislator, I helped usher in laws to mandate disclosure of TPLF in Wisconsin courts. This ensured parties were aware of all stakeholders who had a financial interest in the outcome of litigation. These commonsense disclosure laws should similarly be required in federal courts, where the stakes can be higher,” said Rep. Fitzgerald. “I’m proud to join Congressman Issa in bringing needed transparency to our courtrooms.”

Third-party litigation financing also raises national security concerns. A series of recent cases revealed that China-backed funders fueled IP litigation against U.S. companies. National security concerns have also been echoed by 14 state attorneys general, Vice Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Senator Marco Rubio, and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Senator John Kennedy.
This bill follows extensive work by Rep. Issa this Congress, including holding a hearing titled “The U.S. Intellectual Property System and the Impact of Litigation Financed by Third Party Investors and Foreign Entities”, introducing the discussion draft of the LTA, and a letter to the Judicial Conference.

The following organizations submitted statements in support of Rep. Issa’s bill:

National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies
“The court system was never meant to be exploited and abused in this manner. Frivolous and excessive litigation driven by third-party investors has inherently raised costs for Americans across the country. This legislation will help shine a light on who’s behind a lawsuit and ensure that relevant parties have the necessary information in their deliberations.”

    The U.S. Chamber of Commerce
“This legislation will help protect the integrity of our judicial system by ensuring that outside financiers are not secretly directing or profiting from litigation they are funding. It is common sense that defendants, plaintiffs, and judges should know who is seeking to profit off litigation. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce thanks Rep. Issa for his leadership and strong work on this important issue.”

    American Property Casualty Insurance Association
“The misuse of the legal system fueled by third-party litigation funding has formed a litigious culture, ultimately burdening every consumer and business through increased costs, including the cost of insurance throughout the country. APCIA appreciates Chairman Issa’s leadership for introducing legislation that would require disclosure of third-party litigation funding in civil litigation. APCIA encourages members of Congress to support this legislation.”

    High Tech Inventors Alliance
“We commend Chairman Issa and Representative Fitzgerald for their leadership in defending U.S. companies by exposing the predatory tactics of hedge funds, private equity, and foreign countries employed for the sole purpose of exploiting our courts for financial gain. For too long, a lack of transparency has empowered shell companies to leech off American businesses, while hiding their exploitative practices and, oftentimes, their foreign investors and owners. We urge Congress to choose sunlight over secrecy and stand with American innovators.”

    US MADE
“This bill is an important step forward in taking on the growing influence of TPLF. No one should be able to manipulate the courts in secrecy to benefit themselves and harm American manufacturers. Chairman Issa’s straightforward bill will finally require the disclosure of outside funding arrangements in civil lawsuits. We are proud to support this bill.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Jake Ellzey’s Statement on FEMA Aid

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Jake Ellzey (Texas, 6)

The Department of Homeland Security, under Secretary Mayorkas, has taken actions that make illegal immigration more attractive by reallocating funds that should be prioritized for disaster relief efforts. At a time when FEMA is warning that they do not have enough funding to cover the rest of the hurricane season, money has been funneled into programs that provide aid to noncitizen migrants.

Over $1 billion has been directed to programs like the Shelter and Services Program (SSP) and the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, which have been repurposed to support illegal immigrants. With 150,000 households already relying on FEMA aid after devastating hurricanes, this is a gross misallocation of resources.

The current Administration needs to stop diverting taxpayer money to initiatives that encourage illegal immigration and instead focus on supporting the American people and their immediate needs during natural disasters.

    Here is what we know:

    • Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) can meet immediate needs but does not have enough funds for the rest of Hurricane season.
      • Congress recently granted $20 Billion for FEMA’s disaster relief fund as part of the September continuing resolution.
      • The Biden Administration has granted North Carolina additional aid in the recovery effort with a 100 percent federal cost share for debris removal and emergency protective measures for six months.
      • 150,000 households have registered for FEMA aid.
    • The Shelter and Services Program (SSP) administered by FEMA provides financial support to non-federal agencies to provide humanitarian services to “noncitizen migrants.”
      • FEMA, on their website, said they have funneled at least $1 billion into the program between FY23 and FY24.
      • New York City’s Department of Homeless Services has given $4,000 in grants to 150 families to help illegal immigrants settle into permanent homes.
      • The Emergency Food and Shelter Program, also under FEMA, was repurposed into a fund for Illegal immigrants. Many of these funds went to Catholic Charities on the border, totaling $13,937,331 in 2023.
    • Secretary Mayorkas’ response is that SSP is a separate appropriated account from disaster relief and is not associated with those funding streams.
      • On FEMA’s website, they claim, “No money is being diverted from disaster response needs. FEMA’s disaster response efforts and individual assistance are funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, which is a dedicated fund for disaster efforts. Disaster Relief Fund money has not been diverted to other, non-disaster related efforts.”
      • The December 2022 consolidated funding bill authorizing the split-off program for spending on migrants vaguely described the purpose as for “providing shelter and other services to families and individuals encountered by the Department of Homeland Security.”

NAPLES, Fla. – Today, Congressman Donalds called for the release of the seven American hostages held by Hamas terrorists in Gaza: Edan Alexander, Sagui Dekel- Chen, Omer Neutra, Keith Siegel, Itay Chen (Murdered on October 7th, 2023), Gadi Haggai (Murdered on October 7th, 2023), and Judith Weinstein Haggai (Murdered on October 7th, 2023).

Congressman Donalds also issued the following statement condemning the Hamas terrorist attacks of October 7th, 2023 and praising the resilience of the Jewish people:

“One year ago today, barbaric, Iranian-backed, Hamas terrorists committed the largest mass-murder of Jews since the Holocaust. They launched 6,700 rockets into civilian areas, kidnapped over 200 innocent people, injured thousands, and specifically targeted the vulnerable. The Jewish people are resilient. In every decade, of every century, anti-Semites have devised hateful plots seeking their demise. But they have all failed. And they will fail again. I stand with you. • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Young Kim, Colleagues Condemn Hamas’s October 7 Attack on Israel One Year Later, Urge for Release of Hostages

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Young Kim (CA-39)

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Young Kim (CA-40), Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), Joe Wilson (SC-02), and Lois Frankel (FL-22) introduced a bipartisan resolution condemning Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 and calling attention to the ongoing atrocities nearly one year since that deadly day.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel and brutally murdered, raped, and burned alive more than 1,200 individuals. They took 251 hostages, including Americans and citizens of more than 40 countries.

Today, Hamas still holds 101 hostages, including seven Americans: Edan Alexander, Itay Chen, Sagui Dekel-Chen, Gadi Haggai, Judith Weinstein Haggai, Omer Neutra, and Keith Siegel. Several young women remain in Hamas captivity, subjected to sexual violence and held in dark tunnels.

“Hamas’s brutal terrorist attack against our ally Israel on October 7, 2023 put the worst of evil on display for the world to watch. We will not forget the darkness of that day that will live in infamy,” said Rep. Young Kim. “One year later, the United States cannot waver in standing with our freedom-loving allies and against terrorism – wherever it rears its ugly head. On the Foreign Affairs Committee, I’ll keep working to bring Americans held hostage back home safely and to hold the Iran regime and its terrorist proxies Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis accountable for their unfathomable violence and disregard for human decency.”

“As we commemorate one year since October 7, we honor the memory of the innocent civilians who were brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists and we stand with our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel in its efforts to secure the safe return of the remaining hostages. We can never forget that Hamas terrorist terrorists launched a devastating attack against Israel, brutally murdering more than 1,200 people, and kidnapping more than 240 people. 101 people remain captive, including 7 Americans,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “We must continue to combat the surge in antisemitism that has followed and ensure that Iran and its proxies, including Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), Hezbollah, and the Houthis, are held accountable. This bipartisan resolution reaffirms America’s unwavering commitment to Israel’s security and to the release of all the remaining hostages, including American citizens.”

“On October 7th, 2023, the world watched in horror as Iranian puppet Hamas attacked Israel and committed mass murder and other atrocities on innocent men, women, and children. One year later, the U.S. remains steadfast in its support of the Israeli people and its commitment to securing the safe release of the remaining hostages,” said Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-2).

“Today, we mark a devastating and somber anniversary—one year since Hamas terrorists unleashed the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. On October 7, 2023, the world witnessed in horror as Hamas murdered, raped, and maimed thousands of innocent civilians, while taking 240 hostages—unknown how many remain alive captive in Hamas’s dark tunnels, enduring unimaginable suffering,” said Congresswoman Lois Frankel (FL-22). “More than ever, it is important that there is no separation in the bond between the United States and Israel and that Hamas release the hostages.”

The resolution is supported by ADL (Anti-Defamation League); American Jewish Committee (AJC);  FDD Action; Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, Jewish Federations of North America; Jewish Women International; and, National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW).

“On October 7, 2023 the world witnessed the largest antisemitic event perpetrated against the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” said Anti-Defamation League (ADL) CEO and National Director Jonathan Greenblatt. “These horrific terrorist attacks led by Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and others, have ultimately led to the targeting of Jewish communities around the globe and a groundswell of antisemitic rage unseen in decades. We thank Reps. Gottheimer, Kim, Frankel, and Wilson for leading this bipartisan resolution, calling for the return of all hostages still in Gaza, and condemning the Hamas terrorist attacks and the ensuing global antisemitic wave that continues to present new threats to communities and students on campuses around the world each day.”

“As we approach one year since the mass murder, torture and kidnapping of men, women and children by Hamas, the world must understand that Hamas’ atrocities did not stop after October 7, 2023. Hamas continues to launch rockets into Israel, uses Palestinian civilians as human shields, and worst of all, is still holding 101 hostages from 21 nations. But this is not the only threat facing Israel as Iran’s proxies, including Hezbollah, continue to show. The world must continue to condemn these brutal acts and support Israel’s right to defend itself from ongoing terrorism. This is why I am deeply grateful to Representatives Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Young Kim (R-CA), Lois Frankel (D-FL), and Joe Wilson (R-SC) for speaking out forcefully and reminding the world of Hamas and other Iranian proxies’ demonstration of pure evil. As October 7, 2024 nears, we must recommit ourselves to doing everything possible to bring the remaining hostages home and ensure the safety and security of Israel prevails over the death and destruction chosen by Hamas, Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations,” said Ted Deutch, CEO of American Jewish Committee.

“Hadassah supports Reps. Josh Gottheimer, Lois Frankel, Young Kim, and Joe Wilson’s efforts through this resolution to commemorate one year since Hamas’ brutal October 7, 2023, attack against Israel, honor the victims of Hamas’s murderous terror and rampant sexual violence, and demand the immediate, safe return of the hostages. The massacres that day and the devastating events that have followed continue to have a profound impact on Jewish communities around the world,” said Hadassah National President Carol Ann Schwartz.

“The bipartisan resolution reflects Congress’s moral clarity about the genocidal atrocities committed by Hamas against Israel on Oct 7. It underscores the enduring threat posed by the terrorist organization to American citizens and citizens of scores of other countries.  The resolution could not be more important at a time when there are those who seek to normalize Hamas’s actions and justify its brutality in an inversion of reality. Congress rightly puts on the record Israel’s right to defend itself against the actions of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies. FDD Action supports this resolution and honors the lives of those killed by Hamas and supports the unconditional release of all remaining hostages,” said FDD Action.

“National Council of Jewish Women applauds Representatives Josh Gottheimer, Lois Frankel, Joe Wilson, and Young Kim for introducing this crucial resolution to ensure that October 7 remains at the forefront of our collective memory,” said National Council of Jewish Women CEO Sheila Katz. “As we approach the one-year mark since Hamas terrorists brutally attacked nearly 1,200 lives, took hundreds of innocent people hostage, and used sexual violence as a tool of war, we echo this call to unconditionally condemn these atrocities of October 7. We are also grateful that this resolution addresses the alarming rise in global antisemitism. Everyone deserves to live free from violence and discrimination.”

“Nearly one year ago, Hamas terrorists changed the lives of Jews around the globe – how we act, how we are treated, and how we live. But Jews refuse to live in fear or be cowed from living our full Jewish lives in community. That’s why Jewish Federations will be marking the anniversary with more than 100 events that will remember the victims, honor the heroes, and stand in solidarity with Israel. That is why we strongly support a bipartisan Congressional resolution commemorating the events of October 7th, as it condemns Hamas for their atrocities, calls for Hamas to surrender and return the hostages, and reaffirms Israel’s right to self-defense. We are proud that the sponsors realize the importance of this day and want it to be recognized by the rest of the United States,” said Jewish Federation of North America President and CEO Eric Fingerhut.

“As the most documented atrocity in history, including Go-Pro video uploaded by the terrorists themselves in order to amplify the terror and trauma, intentional campaigns of distortion have led to denial that Hamas and their allies committed sexual atrocities, or far worse, that the rapes of Israelis and others were deserved as acts of resistance,” said Meredith Jacobs, CEO of Jewish Women International. “At JWI, we hold fast to the tenets of our work — victims are never blamed, survivors are believed, rape is never justified. Acknowledging the truth, attributing the strategic and systemic use of sexual violence as a weapon of war to Hamas, is a critical first step in giving some sort of historic justice to the victims and survivors. We thank Representatives Gottheimer, Frankel, Wilson, and Kim for their leadership in introducing this resolution.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Jackson Introduces Legislation to Rename Post Office After Amarillo Legend Jerry H. Hodge

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Ronny Jackson (TX-13)

WASHINGTON, DC — Last week, Representative Ronny Jackson (TX-13) introduced legislation to rename the U.S. Post Office in downtown Amarillo, Texas as the “Mayor Jerry H. Hodge Post Office Building” to honor the life and legacy of Jerry Hodge. Jerry Hodge was a businessman, rancher, and philanthropist who died peacefully in Amarillo, TX at the age of 81 on July 25, 2024.

Jackson said: “Jerry Hodge’s legacy is a testament to his remarkable journey. His dedication and passion for Amarillo was unparalleled. From being elected as the youngest mayor in Amarillo’s history, to turning Maxor Drug into a national leader in pharmacy services, to playing a crucial role in bringing the Sod Poodles, the Texas Tech School of Pharmacy, and the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine to Amarillo, Jerry Hodge’s leadership and vision left a permanent mark on the city. Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry cared deeply for his wife Margaret, his family, friends, and community, and I am proud to have called him a friend. His generosity and commitment to excellence were evident to all, which is why I am honored to introduce this legislation to rename the downtown post office as the “Mayor Jerry H. Hodge Post Office Building.”

Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., Chancellor of the Texas Tech University System said: “Jerry was an extraordinary leader, businessman, and philanthropist who made an incredible impact on the people of Amarillo and the surrounding area. A true trailblazer, he took risks and never hesitated to stand tall for the causes he believed in. Jerry and his wife, Margaret, have been instrumental supporters of the Texas Tech University System and our universities. Without the Hodges, Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center would not have such a crucial presence in Amarillo today. I want to thank Congressman Jackson for his efforts to recognize Jerry’s tremendous contributions to this community.”

Vance Reed, Chairman of Reed Beverage said: “Jerry Hodge was a man of many facets – a lover of land and longhorns, an admirer of good horses, and above all, a person with sincere devotion to mankind. His legacy is etched not only in the businesses he built, but also in the lives he touched. The impact of Jerry and his wife Margaret’s generosity is visible across Amarillo and the states of Texas and Oklahoma, with numerous buildings bearing their names. In a fitting tribute, thanks to District 13 Congressman Ronny Jackson, there are plans to rename the Downtown Post Office in Jerry’s honor. This gesture will serve as a lasting reminder of Jerry Hodge’s contributions and his choice to call Amarillo, Texas his home.”

Alex Fairly, Executive CEO of the Fairly Group said: “Jerry Hodge was an extraordinary human being. He loved his community and he shared his time, influence, and wealth in a passionate pursuit of improving it. Amarillo is better because of Jerry’s unselfish leadership and generosity, and Congressman Jackson is right to mark Jerry’s impact on our community with this honor so that we do not forget his example and impact.”

Richard Ware, Chairman of Amarillo National Bank said: “Amarillo has been blessed and honored to have Jerry Hodge as our leading citizen since the inception of the town. Jerry has served successfully in more positions than anyone – each of these bringing growth and advancement to Amarillo. He was a man of his word and a true friend to many. The Post Office would be a fitting memorial to all that Jerry has done for Amarillo and West Texas.”

The legislation can be found here

Biography of Jerry H. Hodge: Jerry Hodge was born on September 7, 1942, in Carnegie, OK. His family moved to Amarillo in 1957 where he went on to graduate from Tascosa High School in 1960. He earned a pharmacy degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1965. At 23, he purchased Maxor Drug, over the next 49 years, he grew Maxor from a single downtown location in Amarillo to a nationwide producer of pharmacy services across the country. At 30, Jerry was elected to the Amarillo City Commission and served two terms. At 34, he was elected as the youngest Mayor of Amarillo in 1977 and later won reelection by one of the most substantial total votes in the history of the city.

In 1991, Jerry met Margaret, the love of his life. Jerry persuaded Margaret to move to Texas following their marriage on July 29, 1994. With Margaret by his side for nearly 30 years, they were an unstoppable team positively influencing the City of Amarillo. Jerry’s passions also included ranching, owning High Card Ranch in Clarendon, TX and Dos Rios Ranch outside of Springer, NM. Jerry was involved in the Coors Ranch Rodeo since it first began in 1988, and the High Card Ranch competes in the Coors Ranch Rodeo to this day.

After 49 years, Jerry retired as CEO of Maxor in 2016 but continued to serve on the board for an additional 7 years. In 2019, he fulfilled a longtime passion by leading the effort to bring minor league baseball to Amarillo, resulting in the creation of Hodgetown Stadium, named in his honor. In Amarillo, Jerry also played a key role in establishing the Jerry H. Hodge School of Pharmacy, which is named in his honor, as well as the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine. Additionally, he published his memoir, You’re On, Cowboy, in which he shared life lessons both good and bad with honesty and humor.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Manning Statement on the One-Year Anniversary of Hamas’s October 7th Attack Against Israel

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06)

Manning Remembers October 7th Victims, Calls for the Release of all Hostages, and Reaffirms Commitment to Israel’s Security

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-06), Vice Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of Hamas’s brutal October 7th attack against Israel, which killed over 1,000 innocent civilians in the deadliest single day for Jews since the Holocaust, and saw hundreds taken hostage.

“The events of October 7th continue to weigh heavily on Israel and the countless families devastated by Hamas’s brutal attack. The profound pain of those who lost loved ones, coupled with the trauma survivors have endured, cannot be overstated. The incomprehensible atrocities Hamas has inflicted on innocent civilians, alongside its ongoing torment of hostages, should shock the conscience of the entire world.

“Since October 7th, Hamas terrorists have brutally murdered over forty American citizens, and four remain held hostage, including Keith Siegel from my home state of North Carolina. Today, I renew my call for the immediate release of all remaining hostages. Their freedom is essential for the international community to assist in the reconstruction of Gaza and to bring about a stable government that is willing to live in peace with Israel.

“Israel is our strongest, most dependable, and only democratic ally in the Middle East, and the United States must unwaveringly stand by Israel as it faces relentless attacks from Iran and its proxies. From the unprecedented missile attacks Iran has launched against Israel to the ongoing barrage of rockets from Hamas and Hezbollah, these actions aim to destabilize the region and undermine Israel’s security. The international community must hold Iran and its proxies accountable for their continued provocations.

“As we reflect on the horrors of October 7th, I join others in reaffirming America’s ironclad commitment to the security of Israel. The unimaginable cruelty of Hamas’s assault must never be repeated, and I urge Congress to ensure that Israel receives the support it needs to protect its citizens.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Auchincloss’ Statement Marking One Year Since the Terrorist Attack on October 7th, 2023

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Jake Auchincloss (Massachusetts, 4)

    October 07, 2024

“The terrorism of 7 October 2023 was an attack against Israel’s right to exist. Israel, though, was not its only target. The barbarity was meant to make Jews of all nations afraid. To Jews here in Massachusetts, it was an earthquake that still reverberates in ways both personal and political.

The ongoing response of the free world to October 7th must encompass both international and domestic policy. On the international front, the United States must endeavor to lead the world in supporting Israel as it defends itself against the ring of fire encircling it: Hamas to its south, Hezbollah to its north, proxy terror groups in Iraq and Syria to its east, all fueled by the Islamic Republic of Iran. That support will take various forms – diplomatic, military, counsel – but always, it is deeper than personalities and politics. It draws on shared values and the common conviction that Israel and America are on the same side in the fight for freedom, democracy, and peace.

World leaders should forgo false moral equivalency and commit to the side of peace, for the sake of the Israeli people as well as the Palestinian, Lebanese, and Iranian people – and millions more who have been immiserated by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s 50-year campaign of fanaticism and strife.

On the home front, the United States and every nation must not allow fear to take hold. Antisemitism must be given no quarter in our politics, our education, our society. Jews will need allies in this effort. October 7 apologism, including the despicable dismissal of sexual violence against women, grows in the same illiberal soil that nourishes violence and bigotry in all its hateful forms. All who believe in social justice must uproot all forms of hate, including antisemitism.

This anniversary arrives during the Jewish High Holidays. In our reflection and remembrance, let us hold close the hostages and their families. The hostages have been brutalized for a year, their families tormented. They must be returned, and there must be justice.”

Representative Russell Fry (SC-07) Introduces Resolution Reaffirming United States Support for Israel on One Year Anniversary of Hamas’ October 7 Attack

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Russell Fry (SC-07) introduced a resolution reaffirming the United States’ commitment to supporting Israel one year after the October 7th, 2023 terrorist attacks.  This resolution is cosponsored by Representatives Jerry Carl (AL-01), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), John Duarte (CA-13), Darrell Issa (CA-48), Vern Buchanan (FL-16), Zach Nunn (IA-03), Erin Houchin (IN-09), Brett Guthrie (KY-01), Michael Guest (MS-03), Dan Bishop (NC-08), Mike Kelly (PA-16), Nathaniel Moran (TX-01), Dan Crenshaw (TX-02), and Carol Miller (WV-01).

Israel is our greatest ally in the Middle East, and I will continue to stand with them.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Kamlager-Dove Statement on 1 year since October 7th

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager California (37th District)

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement marking one year since Hamas’ October 7th Terror Attack on Israel:

“One year after Hamas’ October 7th terror attack on Israel, the scope and evil of Hamas’ atrocities are still difficult to comprehend. 1,200 people—women, children, the elderly, and other civilians—were massacred in Kibbutzim, villages, and even at a music festival for peace. Another 251 were stolen from their lives and taken hostage by Hamas, with many murdered by Hamas in captivity. A year later, dozens remain trapped in Gaza, with hostage families left in the dark about the wellbeing of their relatives. Hamas inflicted even further trauma by weaponizing sexual violence against its victims.

“These heinous war crimes knew no borders. Nationals from at least 40 countries were murdered or kidnapped, including Americans, of whom at least 43 are dead and seven remain hostage in Gaza. And while Hamas sought to target Jewish Israelis, their victims included people from Muslim, Christian, Druze, Bedouin, and Arab communities too.

“The world witnessed the horrors inflicted by Hamas on October 7th, and we must continue to stand together to condemn them and oppose vile efforts to justify Hamas’ actions or deny its brutality. We must also continue to stand with the Jewish community here in Los Angeles and worldwide, recognizing the deep wounds that the pain of this day and subsequent surge in antisemitism across the globe have reopened. It is unfathomable that the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust occurred not in the distant past but just one year ago today.

“I know that our Los Angeles Jewish community is once again fearing for the safety of loved ones—the same fear felt just a year ago—in wake of Iran’s reckless missile attack on Israel, which killed a Palestinian in the West Bank. The U.S. must work with our allies to de-escalate the situation in the Middle East, ensure Israel’s security, and protect innocent lives in Israel, Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. Now is the time to secure a ceasefire in Gaza to free the hostages, prevent the outbreak of a regional war, protect civilians, and ensure that an October 7th can never happen again.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Rep. Cammack Leads Colleagues In Letter To Sec. Vilsack About Hurricane Helene

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL-03)

GAINESVILLE, FL — Congresswoman Kat Cammack led 14 of her colleagues in a letter to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack about needed USDA actions to support farmers and rural communities devastated by Hurricane Helene. The letter requests FSA strike teams, the use of more accurate rainfall data, and disaster aid provided through block grants.

Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region at the end of September and made its way through the southeastern United States, impacting Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee.

“We write to request that the U.S. Department of Agriculture to take swift action to support our farmers and rural communities affected by Hurricane Helene. Specifically, we request that the USDA deploy Farm Service Agency (FSA) strike teams to the hardest-hit areas, providing much-needed personnel to assist with recovery efforts. Additionally, we urge the Risk Management Agency (RMA) to collaborate with local stakeholders and utilize regional rainfall data to ensure more accurate assessments for damage and crop insurance claims. Finally, we request that USDA disaster aid be provided to affected states through block grants. This will allow states the flexibility to administer relief tailored to the specific needs of their producers and communities. These actions will be critical to ensuring a swift and effective recovery for our agricultural communities,” write the lawmakers in the letter.

Florida Reps. Neal Dunn, Aaron Bean, Gus Bilirakis, Byron Donalds, Scott Franklin, Laurel Lee, Cory Mills, Mike Waltz, and Daniel Webster joined Rep. Cammack on the letter. Congressmen Rick Allen, Austin Scott, and Buddy Carter of Georgia, Virginia Foxx of North Carolina, and Morgan Griffith of Virginia also joined.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Hoyle statement on one-year anniversary of October 7th attack

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04)

    October 07, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC— Today marks one year since Hamas’ brutal massacre. Hamas murdered more than 1,200 Israelis, took 251 hostages – including American citizens – and perpetrated horrific acts of sexual violence against civilians.  The violence unleashed on October 7 has spiraled out of control, engulfing innocent Israelis and Palestinians who’ve had their lives upended and families torn apart. The extent of the suffering cannot be overstated – Holocaust survivors have found themselves once again under attack, and civilians in Gaza have endured unimaginable pain as Israel has waged its military campaign against Hamas this past year. A necessary first step in ending this crisis and securing a negotiated ceasefire is for Hamas to release all remaining hostages. After 365 long days, both Israelis and Palestinians deserve a chance at peace.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congressman Issa: On this October 7 – as with the last – we say loud and clear: Israel must win

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-50)

WASHINGTON – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) released the following statement:

“On October 7th, 2023, I was getting ready to board a flight from Saudi Arabia to Israel along with several of my colleagues on a Congressional delegation. Then came the first reports and the continuing confirmations of the brutal and deadly attacks by Hamas that killed more than a thousand Israelis and saw hundreds more dragged into Gaza to be held as hostages. Our hearts sank with the realization that this was Israel’s 9-11. We were redirected back to the United States.

“But we weren’t there long. I returned to Israel alongside my friend Sen. Joni Ernst and once there we immediately visited the kibbutzim ravaged by the terrorists who carried out an unprovoked slaughter of civilians. We saw the blood stains and bullet holes on the walls of homes, while others were completely burned to the ground. We saw the ransacked possessions of the residents and the scattered toys of children. We were shown residences and told ‘there were no survivors.’

“One year later – and with the support of its strongest friends – Israel has rallied and rebuilt, answered anguish with action, and turned the tide against terror. It is a remarkable achievement that may indeed be the hinge of history turning.

“This is the time to not only stand with Israel but also offer more than the repeated rhetoric of supporting its right to defend itself. We must defend Israel’s very right to exist and to live in peace and security with its neighbors. But it will be – to borrow a phrase from Ronald Reagan – peace through strength.

“On this October 7th – just as with the last one – we need to say loud and clear: Israel Must Win.”

Congressman Mike Lawler Releases Statement Slamming Supreme Court for Texas Abortion Ruling

    Washington, D.C., October 7, 2024

Today, Congressman Mike Lawler slammed the Supreme Court’s decision to let stand a decision barring emergency abortions.

“When the life or health of an expectant mother is at risk during a pregnancy, there is no question that she should be allowed to receive a safe and legal abortion. Period. Full stop,” said Congressman Lawler.

“I do not and will not support any efforts to establish a national abortion ban, whether it be through Congress or the judicial system,” concluded Congressman Lawler. “The Supreme Court’s decision today is appalling and contradicts prior rulings.”

Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of the 118th Congress and represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Mark Alford (Missouri 4th District)

RAYMORE, Mo. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04) released the following statement to mark the first anniversary of the vicious terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas, which killed over 1,200 innocent people and was the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. Iran-backed Hamas terrorists took more than 200 people hostage in the attack, including American citizens.

“We were sickened by the devastating attack on Israel by the Iran-backed terrorist group Hamas one year ago. These vicious terrorists butchered innocent people, murdering men, women, and children. The horrors are nothing short of heartbreaking. One year later, the people of Israel are still living October 7th every single day. One year later, they are still forced to continue fighting to defend themselves against the many enemies trying to destroy them. One year later, Hamas continues to hold innocent people hostage,” said Congressman Alford.

“On this solemn day, we reaffirm America’s commitment to our great ally Israel. We must stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them in this fight and ensure that they have the time, space, and resources needed to wipe out Hamas,” Congressman Alford continued.

Last week, Congressman Alford released a video documenting his trip to Israel in April 2024. In the video, Alford gives a firsthand look at the horrific damage from the brutal attack by Hamas terrorists.

Congressman Alford plans to return to Israel later this month and hold a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

    Burlington, VT, October 7, 2024

Burlington, VT – Rep. Becca Balint released the following statement marking one year since the October 7th attack:

“One year ago, today became the deadliest day in Israeli history. Over 1,200 people were murdered by Hamas and hundreds taken hostage, devastating communities, and families in Israel and around the world. This is a day of trauma and pain for the global Jewish community. Our collective anguish could not be deeper.

“Today, I mourn the lives lost and call for an immediate end to the violence and suffering. Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Florida 20th district))

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick issued the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the October 7th terrorist attack.

“One year ago, on October 7, the world witnessed the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. In a shocking display of brutality, Hamas terrorists murdered over 1,200 innocent people, used rape as a weapon of war, and kidnapped dozens of men, women, and children, tearing families apart and leaving entire communities shattered. These atrocities were not isolated acts of violence, but part of a calculated campaign of terror by Hamas, a proxy of Iran, designed to sow fear and destruction.

These barbaric acts, including those committed by Hezbollah and Iran itself, must come to an end, the hostages must come home, and the international community must stand united in demanding their immediate release. We must also commit to surging humanitarian aid into Gaza and ending the suffering of the Palestinian people at the hands of Hamas.

Today’s commemoration is a time to renew our commitment to supporting Israel’s right to defend itself, bring the hostages home, and combat the scourge of antisemitism, including on our college campuses where students need to be free to learn without fear or the threat of violence. On this day, we remember the victims, stand with their families, and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that these horrors are never repeated.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Ramirez Statement on the Anniversary of October 7: A Year of Pain and Opportunity to Pursue Peace

Source: United States House of Representatives – Representative Delia Ramirez – Illinois (3rd District)

CHICAGO — Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement:

“It has been a year of pain and destruction. October 7 is a dark day – the darkest for many Jewish people since the Holocaust – and we remember Hamas’ deadly attack that took the lives of 1,100 Israelis and separated 251 people from their families. A year later, we grieve for every family who is still not reunited with their loved ones and call for the safe return of the 100 hostages who are still not home.

As we hold the pain and grief of Israeli families forever changed that day, we also acknowledge October 7 as the beginning of Israel’s campaign of collective punishment of the Palestinian people. For 364 days since October 7, the Netanyahu administration’s actions have taken the lives of more than 40,000 Palestinians, including 6,000 women and 11,000 children, and displaced more than 2 million Palestinians in Gaza. Settler violence has expanded in the West Bank, the Palestinian prison population in Israeli custody has doubled – with around half of all detainees held without charge – and more than 2,000 people have been killed in Lebanon, including 127 children and 261 women. A year later, we grieve for every Palestinian and Lebanese family who has also lost loved ones and call for the release of Palestinians detained without charge and the State-facilitated evacuation of all Americans in Lebanon.

As we reflect on what has resulted from a year without a permanent ceasefire, de-escalation, an arms embargo, or accountability, we must admit we are closer to a regional war. A regional war I warned of as I’ve called for us to lead with diplomacy instead of bombs. The only way to end this harm is to commit ourselves to de-escalation and diplomacy. That is how we achieve a permanent ceasefire where hostages come home, prisoners are released, and no Palestinian is a victim of the bombs the U.S. has sent, the aid they have not received, or criminal settler violence that has been tolerated.

Today is a moment to recognize that American, Israeli, and Palestinian safety and security are intertwined and interconnected to the safety and security of all those who live in the region. We must honor our shared pain and our shared humanity and pursue peace. Let us be light in dark times and dark places.”

  • MIL-OSI USA: Congresswoman Tenney Releases Statement on the One-year Anniversary of the Horrific October 7th Attacks by Hamas

Source: United States House of Representatives – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22)

Oswego, New York – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the horrific October 7th attacks by Hamas.

“On October 7th of last year, Hamas, an Iranian-backed terrorist organization, carried out its heinous October 7th attacks against Israeli civilians,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “More than a thousand innocent civilians, including Americans, were killed, raped, tortured, beaten, brutalized, or kidnapped at the hands of Hamas. October 7th was the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, and I continue to mourn the loss of the precious souls murdered on that day. May their memories be a blessing and their murderers be brought to justice.”

“One would think that unequivocally condemning this horrific attack would be common sense. Yet, one year later, I am horrified by the pro-Hamas encampments, riots, and mobs that we have seen across our country, particularly on college campuses. Even some of my colleagues in Congress continue to refuse to condemn Hamas’s terrorism. We have witnessed individuals engage in anti-Semitic chants of “from the river to the sea,” calling for the erasure of Israel, the lone democracy in the region. Further, while these individuals claim to support a “ceasefire,” those calls only seem to apply to Israel’s attempts to defend itself and not to Iranian and Iranian-backed attacks against Israel. These individuals also remain shockingly silent in joining calls for Hamas to release its hostages.

“One year later, Hamas still holds captive over 97 hostages from October 7th, including American citizens. Throughout the last year, I have met with dozens of family members of hostages being held by Hamas, and I have joined their calls for Hamas to immediately and unconditionally release all its hostages. We recently learned that out of fear that Israel may free him, Hamas killed Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an American citizen whom they held captive for almost a year. I continue to mourn the loss of Hersh, along with all the hostages who have been killed. I wholeheartedly support Israel’s ongoing campaign to free the remaining hostages in Gaza and commend the work of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to liberate the remaining hostages and recover the bodies of those killed by Hamas.

“Sadly, one year later, the Biden administration still refuses to address the true root cause of the October 7th attacks: the brutal Iranian regime. Without the backing of the despotic Iranian mullahs, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis could not have launched the October 7th attacks. Iran provides these terrorist proxies with critical funding, training, arms, and intelligence. Under the Biden administration, the United States has failed to enforce our existing sanctions, allowing Iran to earn an estimated $100 billion in oil and arms sales, which fund their aforementioned terrorist proxies. The Biden administration must reinstate the Trump administration’s Maximum Pressure Campaign and encourage our E3 allies to invoke snapback sanctions on Iran immediately. The Biden administration must also give their full and unequivocal support to Israel as it eliminates the terrorist leadership and infrastructure of Hamas and Hezbollah, which are not only Israel’s enemy but also our enemies.

“One year later, however, there is still reason for hope. Over the last year, we have seen the promise of the Abraham Accords in action when the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan helped Israel repel an attack by Iran. Ayatollah Khamenei’s worst nightmare is a peaceful coexistence between Israel and its neighbors. We must continue working to expand and strengthen the Abraham Accords to achieve a lasting peace in the region. I am hopeful that an expansion of the Abraham Accords is possible and that Israel will succeed in freeing the remaining hostages and eliminating the threat posed by Hamas and Hezbollah. I will never waver in my support of Israel, one of our greatest allies, and will continue working to ensure that Never Again truly means Never Again.”
