Source: United States House of Representatives – Congressman John Moolenaar (4th District of Michigan)

Headline: Moolenaar: Benson Should Endorse SAVE Act After Illegal Voter Flees to China

On Friday, federal prosecutors unsealed details regarding a new criminal case against Haoxiang Gao, a Chinese national who attended the University of Michigan and illegally cast a ballot in the 2024 election. The FBI alleges Gao fled the United States for China in January using a second passport to avoid prosecution. Congressman John Moolenaar made the following statement in response to the new case:

“It is disgraceful Haoxiang Gao was able to illegally vote in our state in the first place, and now he will likely never face the consequences of his actions after fleeing the country. Secretary Benson has said for months that she opposes strengthening our nation’s election
laws to stop non-citizens from voting. She said the justice system would hold lawbreakers accountable. Now we see that is not the case. This student had his vote counted in our election last November and escaped justice on her watch. Secretary Benson should endorse the SAVE Act and do more to proactively prevent non-citizens from voting.”

The SAVE Act would require every person registering to vote to present proof of U.S. citizenship. The bill passed the House earlier this year in a bipartisan vote of 220-208.

In April, Moolenaar was joined by all six of his GOP colleagues from Michigan in calling on Benson to justify her opposition to the SAVE Act in light of an internal review of the 2024 election that found an additional 15 non-citizens voted in the state.

The United States does not have an extradition treaty with China, so Gao will likely never face prosecution for illegally voting.

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for New Jersey Cory Booker

NEWARK, N.J. – Following United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Secretary Sean Duffy’s visit to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) issued the following statement:

“This afternoon, Secretary Duffy visited EWR and highlighted the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey’s reopening of one of EWR’s major runways 13 days ahead of schedule, marking the completion of a $121 million infrastructure upgrade. I applaud the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey for their work to get this rehabilitation completed ahead of schedule. This is an important first step toward helping alleviate and streamline air traffic. However, EWR requires comprehensive federal investments to properly address the needs of New Jersey’s travelers, boost resources to support and train our region’s air traffic controllers, and maintain the airport’s operational integrity. This means emergency supplemental funding for the FAA’s Air Traffic Organization (ATO) to properly modernize air traffic control infrastructure at airports nationwide, including at least $2 billion to replace the aging copper wire infrastructure and radar communication technology that Newark Liberty International Airport relies on. The ongoing situation in Newark requires earnest and continued collaboration across all levels of government, and I’m a willing partner. I’m hopeful that the Department of Transportation will continue to work with me and my colleagues in Congress on this issue to bolster one of our nation’s busiest airports–– one that tens of thousands of New Jerseyans rely on every day,” said Booker.

On May 6, 2025, Senator Booker penned an urgent letter to Secretary Duffy asking the United States Department of Transportation to take steps to immediately address regional air traffic controller staffing shortages and detail all steps the agency is taking to remedy Newark Liberty International Airport’s reported telecommunication failures. The full May 6, 2025 letter can be found here.

On May 14, 2025, following additional reported telecommunication failures at Newark Liberty International Airport, Senator Booker led members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation in a letter to Senate and House Appropriations Chairs demanding at least $2,000,000,000 in emergency funding to strengthen FAA air traffic control infrastructure. US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for Texas John Cornyn

WASHINGTON – Today on the floor, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) underscored the urgency of addressing our national debt in the Senate’s version of President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act and detailed additional priorities for the legislation, including extending the Trump tax cuts to avoid an average tax increase of $3,000 in Texas and implementing work requirements for means-tested programs. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video can be found here.

“One of the most important things that we need to do in this budget reconciliation process is to finally come to grips with our national debt.”

“We are now spending more money on interest on the national debt than we are to defend our nation, which is the number one job of the federal government.”

“If we want the United States to maintain its standing in the world, if we want to be able to have the resources to defend the nation and deter our adversaries, we have to at least begin to get our fiscal house in order, and this bill — the big, beautiful bill from the House — we’re going to make it even more beautiful here in the Senate.”

“I was happy to see that the House bill included work requirements that go into effect in 2026, and I hope the Senate will include this policy in our bill as well.”

“Failure is not an option. If the President’s tax cuts are not extended, the American people will face the largest tax increase in American history… back home in Texas, my constituents will see their taxes increase on average $3,000 next year.”

“As I’ve traveled my state as I did during the course of this most recent recess, my constituents have emphasized to me time and time again how much they are depending on these tax cuts being renewed, especially our small businesses that have depended on the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to hire more staff, to purchase equipment that they could then expense, and to provide additional benefits to their employees.”

“All of these small businesses, which are the primary job-creating engine in America, would be hurt, and would suffer increased costs, and have to cut somewhere in their business.”

“The American people are depending on us to pass the President’s agenda through this One Big Beautiful Bill.”

Construction is officially underway on a new fire station for Metcalfe Fire Brigade, marking a major milestone for the local community.

CFA Acting Deputy Chief Officer for North West Region Gavin Wright joined brigade members on-site for a ceremonial sod turn on Sunday 2 June, commemorating the start of the project.

The new station, to be built on Malmsbury-Metcalfe Road, will replace the brigade’s current facility located nearby.

Metcalfe Fire Brigade Captain Graeme Smith said the upgraded station will better support the brigade’s operations for years to come.

“We’ve been working with the community and pushing for this project, so to see it finally happening is just fantastic,” Graeme said.

“Our hope is that it’ll also serve as a staging area for any large-scale incidents in the region.
It’s not just an asset for the brigade — it’ll benefit the entire community.”

Graeme added the new station is also expected to boost recruitment.

“When it’s completed, we think it’ll be a real drawcard for new members,” he said.

“We’ll be able to offer state-of-the-art facilities and a great environment to be a part of.”

The new fit-for-purpose station will include a motor room with two reverse-in bays, operational areas, dedicated storage, a multipurpose room, and external car parking. It will also feature separate turnout areas and private change facilities to support both male and female volunteers.

Acting Deputy Chief Officer Gavin Wright said the new design reflects CFA’s commitment to volunteer safety, inclusivity, and sustainability.

“Sustainability features such as solar panels, rainwater recycling, EV charging readiness, and water-sensitive landscaping have all been incorporated,” he said.

“This facility is built not just for today, but for the future needs of the brigade and the broader community.”

Established in 1885, Metcalfe Fire Brigade currently has 54 members (17 women and 36 men), 29 operational firefighters, and two tankers. The brigade responds to an average of 20 incidents a year across Mount Alexander Shire.

Construction is expected to be completed by early 2026.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Attorney General Bonta, Secretary of State Weber Secure Court Ruling Invalidating Fresno County’s Unlawful Voter Law, Measure A

OAKLAND – California Attorney General Rob Bonta and California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D. today issued a statement following the California Superior Court’s decision invalidating Measure A, which attempted to amend Fresno County’s charter to move elections for district attorney and sheriff away from the presidential cycle to the gubernatorial cycle. Attorney General Bonta and Secretary of State Weber filed a lawsuit challenging Measure A last year, arguing that Measure A is preempted by a state law that explicitly requires counties to hold these elections during the presidential election cycle, which traditionally has higher turnout. In its decision, the Superior Court permanently blocks Fresno County from enforcing Measure A, finding that the measure violates California’s election law.

“There is nothing more fundamental to American democracy than the right to vote and make your voice heard,” said Attorney General Bonta. “With Measure A, Fresno County threatened to undermine that fundamental right, intentionally seeking to move elections for sheriff and district attorney to off years when voters are far less likely to show up and cast a ballot. Our democracy works best when everyone can participate. I’m proud to have worked with Secretary of State Weber to have permanently blocked this unlawful measure.”

“Our democracy works best when more citizens can participate in our elections,” said Secretary of State Weber. “Today’s ruling helps ensure more voices are heard through the ballot box in Fresno County’s elections for district attorney and sheriff.”

TEHRAN, June 2 (Xinhua) — Iran will not respond positively to the U.S. draft proposal on Iran’s nuclear program that contains “radical and maximalist” demands, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Monday.

    E. Baghaei made the statement during a weekly press conference in Tehran, commenting on the US proposal for a possible agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, presented to Iran on May 31 by Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al-Busaidi.

Baghaei said Iran and the US were aware of each other’s “red lines,” stressing Iran’s insistence on continuing to enrich uranium and ensuring the effective lifting of what he called “cruel” sanctions. These two conditions, he said, should be integral to any potential agreement with the US.

He stressed that the lifting of sanctions remains Iran’s main demand in the ongoing indirect talks with the West on its nuclear program.

The official noted Iran’s readiness to take confidence-building and transparency measures regarding its nuclear program under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, but stressed the need for guarantees of a real lifting of sanctions imposed on Tehran over the past decades.

    E. Baghaei said the United States had not provided clarification on the lifting of sanctions, adding that Iran needed a clear understanding of the mechanisms for lifting them and guarantees that it would be able to see the results of lifting sanctions, especially in sectors such as foreign trade, the economy and banking.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Sunday that Iran was preparing a response to the US proposal, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported. -0-

GENEVA, June 2 (Xinhua) — Growing tensions in global trade are taking a toll on labour markets around the world, International Labour Organization (ILO) Director-General Gilbert Houngbo said on Monday.

Speaking at the opening of the 113th session of the International Labour Conference, J. Houngbo said that global employment forecasts for 2025 had been revised downwards, citing the ILO’s latest World Employment and Social Prospects report.

According to the report, the expected number of new jobs worldwide was revised down to 53 million, which is 7 million fewer than forecast in October last year. Zhang Houngbo attributed this decline primarily to the slowdown in global economic growth amid rising trade tensions.

The ILO Director-General also highlighted the growing impact of artificial intelligence on global labour markets, noting that jobs in highly digitalised sectors such as media, software development and finance face growing risks, while jobs involving routine physical labour are becoming increasingly vulnerable.

The current session of the International Labour Conference runs until 13 June. Delegates from the ILO’s 187 member states will focus on issues such as preventing biological hazards, decent working conditions and proposed amendments to the Maritime Labour Convention. –0–

  • MIL-OSI Russia: Mikhail Mishustin held a meeting on high-performance computing for the development of artificial intelligence and big data processing

    Translation. Region: Russian Federal

Source: Government of the Russian Federation – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

    Opening remarks by Mikhail Mishustin:

    Good afternoon, dear colleagues!

We have now looked closely at samples of technological products that are produced by various divisions of Russian scientific and scientific-technological centers. Of course, progress here is obvious.

The President has approved technological leadership as one of the national goals. Of course, without independence in the field of electronic engineering, the main directions associated with the samples presented today, it will be impossible to achieve national development goals.

Today we also got acquainted with devices that are already capable of performing the most complex tasks, including in the field of artificial intelligence, big data analysis, and other critical areas. This is a necessary basis for smart control systems, platforms for modeling tests, forecasting, and autonomous decision-making. The introduction of such technologies reduces the time and financial costs of creating any science-intensive product.

    Participants of the meeting

List of participants of the meeting on high-performance computing for the development of artificial intelligence and big data processing, June 2, 2025

It is important to continue to create conditions for the release of breakthrough solutions. To widely use scientific, educational, resource potential not only to catch up, but also to successfully compete in new, emerging, promising areas. Just today, young scientists who presented the areas of their activities spoke about this in detail.

Today we will discuss strategic issues of development of high-performance computing for artificial intelligence and supercomputer infrastructure.

Our meeting is taking place at the All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics. There is absolutely unique advanced equipment here that allows us to generate and, most importantly, implement the boldest ideas.

Here and in other domestic organizations, specialists are engaged in the development of modern photonics and microelectronics elements and components.

Having our own competencies in the production of equipment and components, in the field of materials and chemistry is a key condition for our further advancement.

A comprehensive program for the development of electronic engineering is being implemented in Russia. We have heard a number of reports on this subject today. It covers all areas of production of such products. It provides for the creation of equipment, materials, chemicals, electronic design tools, of course, taking into account the needs of our enterprises.

The priority should also be to increase the competitiveness of Russian lithography. Today we looked at how the work related to the creation of domestic lithographs is progressing.

I would also like to say about the photonics development program, it is designed until the end of 2030. We discussed the achievements of this sector when we met last year here in Sarov. Now we are organizing the production of domestic matrix photodetector devices. Modernization of enterprises in order to establish serial production. Today we also looked at how things are going here.

Our specialists have an ambitious goal – to increase the share of Russian photonics in the domestic market from 35 to 90%. And the level of localization of such complex, science-intensive products – from 15 to 70%. A very difficult task.

Today we will discuss the necessary steps to accomplish such a task.
