An agreement between Verizon and FIFA was announced today, with the world-class network provider named the Official Telecommunication Services Sponsor for the FIFA World Cup 26 in Canada, Mexico and the U.S., as well as a Tournament Supporter in the U.S for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 .
Building on Verizon’s reputation as the go-to communications network partner of choice for sports and entertainment powerhouses, Verizon will now be powering future FIFA World Cup experiences for fans, players, media and more. For the FIFA World Cup 26, Verizon’s connectivity services will play a vital role across stadiums, official sites and various parts of the tournament operations, in what is the first-ever deal between the two organizations.

The FIFA World Cup 26, the pinnacle of men’s soccer, is coming to the U.S. for the first time since 1994 – as well as Canada and Mexico – and will be the largest ever held, with 48 teams playing 104 matches. In partnership with FIFA, Verizon will help cater for the influx of fans, players and visitors around the country – ensuring that networks across stadiums, communities and cities keep fans, players and every attendee connected to all of the action. In addition, Verizon will deploy a program for international fans to access the Verizon network upon landing in the U.S. and Canada, ensuring a reliable connection for all visitors.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 will be the tenth edition of the tournament, with 32 nations competing for glory. Brazil will host the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time, becoming the first ever South American nation to host the competition. The U.S. has hosted the competition twice and won it four times.
As an Official Tournament Supporter for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 in the U.S., Verizon will bring experiences for fans leading up to, during and after the games, including activations, unique giveaways, player meet-and-greets ahead of the tournament, and more.

A new development center, which will be established in Abu Dhabi, is Microsoft’s first engineering center to be launched in the Arab world, joining the company’s global portfolio of development centers across key strategic locations around the world.
Microsoft’s Engineering Development Center in Abu Dhabi will be part of a global ecosystem of centers dedicated to the creation of AI innovations, cloud technologies and advanced cybersecurity solutions. The engineering teams at the center will create cutting-edge solutions that will be part of Microsoft solutions globally.
This announcement is the latest in a series of investments by Microsoft that further strengthens the UAE’s position as a global hub of tech innovation and talent. The final design of the Passing of the Crown coin, mark-ing King Frederik X succeeding Queen Margrethe II, was revealed as as Danmarks Nationalbank presented the coin to the new monarch.
The Passing of the Crown Coin is a 20-kroner coin, which will be introduced into general circulation via stores and banks in early November 2024.
The previous time a Passing of the Crown Coin was issued was in 1972, when Queen Margrethe II became monarch following the death of her father King Frederik IX.
Denmark has a long tradition of issuing commemorative coins to celebrate special events in the royal family, such as anniversaries.
The design of the new Passing of the Crown Coin follows the tradition of previous issuances, as one side features a portrait of King Frederik X in a right-facing profile, while the reverse features Queen Margrethe II, also in a right-facing profile. Both portraits were created by sculptor Eva Hjorth. The coin was designed by Danmarks Nationalbank’s Head of Design, Jeanette Skov Jensen.
A total of one million Passing of the Crown Coins have been produced. Most of them will enter circulation as regular coins, but some will be made available to the public as collectors’ versions. These will be available to purchase via coin and stamp dealer nordfrim.dk on 1 No-vember 2024. However, It will be possible to pre-order the coin beginning today.
The Passing of the Crown Coin will circulate alongside existing coins, which remains legal tender.
Regular circulation coins featuring King Frederik X are expected to be released during the second half of 2025. More information about this will be available on Dan-marks Nationalbank’s website in 2025. These coins will also be circulated alongside coins that are currently in circulation.

GoTo Group launched Dira, a Bahasa Indonesia AI-powered voice assistant integrated into their GoPay fintech app. Customers use voice commands and complete tasks like bill payments and money transfers with fewer steps. Check out a live demo of the app from GoTo in this video.
ScottsMiracle-Gro built an AI agent on Google Cloud Vertex AI to provide tailored gardening advice and product recommendations.
Snap deployed the multimodal capability of Gemini within their “My AI” chatbot and has since seen over 2.5x as much engagement within Snapping to My AI in the United States.

Telecom Italia (TIM) implemented a Google-powered voice agent to address many customer calls, increasing efficiency by 20%.
UPS Capital uses an agent built on Google Cloud technology to analyze package movements, insurance claims, and address data in real time to identify anomalies.
Volkswagen US built a virtual assistant in the myVW app, where drivers can explore their owners’ manuals and ask questions such as, “How do I change a flat tire?” or “What does this digital cockpit indicator light mean?” Users can also use Gemini’s multi-modal capabilities to see helpful information and context on indicator lights simply by pointing their smartphone cameras at their dashboards. Their Clinical Operations team leverages Gemini for Google Workspace to transform complex operations data into actionable insights; so they can quickly pinpoint ways to streamline the patient experience in clinical trials.
Dun & Bradstreet built an email-generation tool with Gemini that helps sellers create tailored, personalized communications to prospects and customers for its research services. They also developed intelligent search capabilities to help users with complex queries like, “Find me all the companies in this area with a high ESG rating.”
Elanco, a world leader in animal health, has implemented a gen AI framework, powered by Vertex AI and Gemini, to support critical business processes, such as Pharmacovigilance, Customer Orders, and Clinical Insights. This has resulted in an estimated ROI of $1.9 million since launching last year.
Randstad is using Gemini for Google Workspace to enhance our relationships internally and externally with candidates, making them more efficient and giving them time back to focus on the human aspect of their work.

The CME Group is building a first-of-its-kind cloud-based commodities trading platform with Google Cloud’s AI tools built in, offering CME’s trading customers access to deeper insights and smarter trades as well as rapid experimentation on new trading strategies that won’t interrupt existing trade flows
Hiscox, one of the oldest syndicates in Lloyd’s of London, used BigQuery and Vertex AI to create the first AI-enhanced lead underwriting model, automating quoting for complex risks, from three days down to a few minutes.
Ipsos, a multinational market research firm, built a data analysis tool grounded in Google Search for its market researchers, eliminating the need for time-consuming requests to analysts.
Intelligencia AI, a healthcare technology company, uses Cloud SQL for Postgres for the data infrastructure that powers its AI-driven drug development predictions, enabling the company to deliver accurate and transparent results to customers, while reducing overhead.

Formula E is using Google Cloud gen AI to summarize two-hour-long race commentary into a two-minute podcast in any language, using driver data and ongoing seasonal storylines.
Globo, the largest media group in Latin America, is using Google Cloud’s AI to hyper-personalize content for its streaming users, and create a better experience for spectators.
PODS, working with advertising agency Tombras, used Gemini to create the “World’s Smartest Billboard,” a campaign on their trucks that could adapt to each neighborhood in New York City. The ads used live feeds of data so they updated in real-time hitting all 299 neighborhoods in just 29 hours creating more than 6,000 headlines.

Radisson Hotel Group worked with Accenture and Google Cloud to use Vertex AI and Gemini models to personalize its advertising at scale by training AI models on extensive datasets stored in BigQuery; ad teams saw productivity rise 50% while revenue increased from AI-powered campaigns by more than 20%.

Since generative AI first captured the world’s attention, there’s been a vigorous discussion about what, exactly, the new technology is best used for. While we all enjoyed those early funny chats and witty limericks, we’ve quickly discovered that many of the biggest AI opportunities are clearly in the enterprise, government, and with exciting new companies.
When we first published this post during Google Cloud Next ‘24, we showcased 101 of the best use cases out of the hundreds featured across the event. Now, we’re adding another 84 to the list as customers across the globe continue to put generative AI to work.

In a matter of months, organizations have gone from AI helping answer questions, to AI making predictions, to generative AI agents. Similar to great sales and service people, customer agents are able to listen carefully, understand your needs, and recommend the right products and services. They work seamlessly across channels including the web, mobile, and point of sale, and can be integrated into product experiences with voice and video.
1.Alaska Airlines is developing natural language search, providing travelers with a conversational experience powered by AI that’s akin to interacting with a knowledgeable travel agent. This chatbot aims to streamline travel booking, enhance customer experience, and reinforce brand identity.
2. Bennie Health uses Vertex AI to power its innovative employee health benefits platform, providing actionable insights and streamlining data management in order to enhance efficiency and decision-making for employees and HR teams.
3. Beyond 12, a tech-enabled nonprofit focused on student empowerment, has developed an AI-powered college coach to offer scalable coaching to first-generation students that’s available over text, app, and the web.
4. CareerVillage is building an app called Coach to empower job seekers, especially underrepresented youth, in their career preparedness; already featuring 35 career development activities, the aim is to have more than 100 by next year.
5. Character.ai built its realistic conversational chat platform using the full stack of Google Cloud AI services, including for model training and daily operations, allowing it to manage terabytes of conversations each day without interruption.
6. Click Therapeutics develops prescription digital therapeutics designed to treat disease. Gojek, an Indonesia-based super app, launched “Dira by GoTo AI,” a Bahasa Indonesia AI-powered voice assistant integrated into their GoPay service, allowing customers to use voice command to eliminate typing and scrolling, and complete tasks like bill payments and money transfers with fewer steps.
10. GroupBy, an ecommerce service provider, developed an AI-first Search and Discovery Platform powered by Vertex AI Search for Retail. This solution is meticulously designed to optimize revenue, strengthen brand loyalty, and drive sales growth for B2C and B2B retailers.

24 September 2024, New York, USA | The State of New York announced its membership of the Global Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA) – joining a network of governments, international organizations, and private sector actors committed to expanding offshore wind capacity globally and driving the transition to a clean energy future.
GOWA is a multi-stakeholder alliance that aims to speed up the global deployment of offshore wind power. The alliance was launched at COP27 by Denmark, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). Twenty governments have already joined GOWA. The addition of the State of New York further strengthens the global collaboration between regional and national governments and creates a more unified and coordinated approach to offshore wind development across the globe.

Every year, humpback whales migrate up the east coast of Australia to breed, and journey back to Antarctica to feed. During their migration, the whales make calls and sing songs – a grand chorus in the symphony of their ecosystems.
This underwater soundscape is a valuable and vital window into the health of this species and their habitats. By tracking audio data, scientists can understand migration activity, patterns, mating calls, competitive behaviors and more.

As part of the Digital Future Initiative, Google Australia is teaming up with Griffith University to implement more precise, comprehensive and efficient monitoring of whale migrations and their ecosystems in Australia – enabled by Google AI and automatic audio detection.
Researchers Dr Olaf Meynecke from Griffith University’s Whales and Climate Program and Dr Lauren Harrell from Google Research are leading this collaboration.
Traditional whale research methods have faced limitations in both data collection and analysis. Researchers logged sightings and manually analysed audio recordings, which is time-consuming and does not give a continuous view of whale activity. Moreover, visual sightings can only be logged during daylight, and tracking the evolving vocal dialects of whales across different regions and seasons is a complex task.
With this new collaboration, researchers have deployed hydrophones — underwater microphones — and Google AI powered audio detection systems to monitor the sounds and songs of humpback whales and their habitats.

Hydrophones allow us to tune into marine soundscapes and continuously collect underwater audio data all day and all night, through the entire humpback migration season. Google’s AI technology processes this data, automatically detecting whale sounds, marking their location in time and classifying the species. This frees researchers from the minutiae and laborious manual work, so they can look at the big picture, uncover insights and explore new research frontiers.

Curtin University’s Centre for Marine Science and Technology is supporting the collection and labeling of acoustic data, and a range of local citizen science groups will assist with monitoring each of the hydrophone sites. The AI model will eventually be open-sourced on Kaggle and GitHub, benefiting other whale and marine researchers worldwide.
While our current focus is on monitoring humpback whale sounds, the potential of this AI model extends far beyond. We’ll look to build on the model to detect the sounds of diverse marine species, from fish to dolphins and seals. These advancements will open up uncharted territories of research that could help protect these magnificent creatures and their habitats for generations to come.
MANILA, PHILIPPINES (24 September 2024) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) today announced a set of actions to mainstream lead exposure mitigation into its operations, as part of its participation in the newly formed Partnership for a Lead-Free Future, a global initiative led by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The partnership aims to eliminate childhood lead exposure by 2040.
The initiative, launched at the United Nations General Assembly today, will target high-risk countries including Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, and Nepal, among others throughout Asia and the Pacific.
ADB’s participation in the partnership underscores its ongoing commitment to addressing health and environmental challenges in developing Asia and the Pacific. Lead contamination, particularly from informal used lead-acid battery recycling sites, presents a major health crisis. Toxic lead exposure is affecting at least 400 million children in the region, leading to cognitive impairments, health complications, and major economic losses. The global economic cost of lead-related cognitive underdevelopment is estimated at about $1 trillion annually.
“Lead exposure doesn’t just affect children’s health—it holds back entire economies,” said ADB Vice-President for East and Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Scott Morris. “The Partnership for a Lead-Free Future is an important step in addressing this environmental, health, and economic issue. We will dedicate ADB’s expertise and resources to help ensure that countries across Asia and the Pacific can mitigate lead exposure, enhance public health, and secure a healthier, more productive future for all.”
ADB is embedding lead management into its broader environmental safeguards and technical assistance programs, and has already begun engaging with governments in Indonesia, India, and the Philippines to tackle lead contamination. The bank will co-host a technical side event on lead pollution at the 12th Asia Pacific Regional Forum on Health and Environment in Jakarta on 25 September, which will serve as a platform to advance the lead elimination agenda. Co-organized with the governments of Indonesia, Japan and Thailand, USAID, and the World Bank, the forum will highlight cutting-edge research on lead exposure and showcase effective strategies for reducing lead poisoning.
In collaboration with the Global Environment Facility and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, ADB is also developing the Chemical and Wastes Financing Partnership Facility, the first of its kind. This facility will scale chemical management, including lead mitigation, across the region. The initiative complements ADB’s work in managing hazardous waste, providing governments with the resources to regulate industries, replace hazardous materials, and enforce environmental standards.
ADB plans to integrate lead elimination into its universal health care support programs, starting in the Philippines. Through these programs, ADB has been working to ensure equitable access to health services, address gender-specific health needs, and mitigate the health impacts of climate change.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES (24 September 2024) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched a new country partnership strategy (CPS) with Fiji for 2024–2028, which will support Fiji’s resilience to economic and climate-related shocks.
“This new CPS will build on ADB’s ongoing assistance to support more resilient public finances, quality infrastructure and services, and a greener and more diversified private sector,” said ADB Director General for the Pacific Leah Gutierrez. “The strategic partnership will tailor ADB support towards Fiji’s recently launched National Development Plan 2025-2029.”
The new strategy will prioritize assistance for public sector management, improving access to climate-resilient transport infrastructure, and climate-resilient urban water and wastewater services. The CPS emphasizes emerging areas of engagement in coastal protection for vulnerable communities, upgrading national health care facilities, and accelerating Fiji’s renewable energy transition. It focuses on promoting private sector investment, accelerating progress in gender equality, and fostering regional cooperation and integration.
“The strategy reflects the close partnership between the Government of Fiji and ADB, aligning future support with Fiji’s National Development Plan 2025–2029,” said Fijian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Biman Prasad.
The 5-year strategy will assist Fiji’s efforts to bolster climate and disaster resilience through innovative financial solutions, upgrading critical infrastructure, reinforcing climate policy reforms, and improving access to concessional climate finance.

Samsung Electronics, the world leader in advanced memory technology, today announced it has successfully developed the industry’s first PCIe 4.0 automotive SSD based on eighth-generation vertical NAND (V-NAND). With industry-leading speeds and enhanced reliability, the new auto SSD, AM9C1 is an optimal solution for on-device AI capabilities in automotive applications.
With about 50% improved power efficiency compared to its predecessor, the AM991, the new 256GB auto SSD will deliver sequential read and write speeds of up to 4,400 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) and 400MB/s, respectively.

By switching from its original triple-level cell (TLC) state to SLC mode, users can enjoy boosted read and write speeds of up to 4,700MB/s and 1,400MB/s, respectively, while also benefiting from the added reliability of SLC SSDs.
The 256GB AM9C1 is currently being sampled by key partners and is expected to begin mass production by the end of this year. Samsung plans to offer multiple storage capacities for the AM9C1 ranging from 128GB to 2 terabytes (TB) to address the growing demand for high-capacity automotive SSDs. The 2TB model, which is set to offer the industry’s largest capacity in this product category, is scheduled to start mass production early next year.
Through intensified board-level tests, Samsung’s new auto SSD satisfies the automotive semiconductor quality standard AEC-Q1003 Grade 2, ensuring stable performance over a wide temperature range of -40°C to 105°C.
To further meet the high standards of the automotive industry in terms of durability and stability, Samsung also conducts various quality assurance processes. The company received ASPICE CL3 authentication4 for its UFS 3.1 product in March this year.

CAF- development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a framework for collaboration aimed at promoting sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The agreement, signed by CAF’s Executive President Sergio Díaz-Granados and UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira Da Silva, outlines key areas of cooperation. These include technical assistance and implementation of infrastructure projects, conducting feasibility studies and project structuring, development of joint training activities in project management and procurement, resource mobilization to support regional countries, as well as information exchange and capacity building initiatives.
This agreement strengthens the relationship between the two organizations, as since 2017, CAF and UNOPS have worked together in Latin America on technical assistance projects in Panama, Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Atsugi, Japan — Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (SSS) today announced the upcoming release of the ECX350F, a 0.44-type Full HD resolution OLED Microdisplay that combines the industry’s smallest*1 5.1 µm pixels (approximately 5,000 ppi) with the industry’s highest*1 brightness of up to 10,000 cd/m2.
The ECX350F is an OLED Microdisplay designed for use in augmented reality (AR) glasses, an application which demands a thin, lightweight form factor without compromising visibility. Adopting a novel OLED structure and microlenses, the microdisplay enhances pixel light emission despite its diminutive size. This innovation allows for Full HD resolution within a compact 0.44-inch panel while delivering a peak brightness of 10,000 cd/m2 — approximately double that of the conventional model.*2 This new product represents a breakthrough that addresses the longstanding challenge of delivering high brightness with small pixels.

・Miniaturization through smaller pixels and narrow bezels The non-display area (bezel) surrounding the active display area integrates the circuits and wiring required for the display drive. With conventional technology, it was difficult to narrow the bezel due to concerns about reliability as a display device and issues such as poor screen display caused by the required wiring width of the circuit portion. The new product solves these problems by introducing a new circuit design and assembly process, reducing the bezel size on the long side of the display to 1.14mm on both the top and bottom.
By miniaturizing the pixels and narrowing the display bezel, the new microdisplay boasts a short-side size of 7.99 mm, a 24% reduction from the conventional product,*2 while maintaining the pixel count needed for Full HD, thereby enabling AR glasses to be made thinner and lighter.

・Variable black frame function supporting variable input resolution and display position The new product comes with a variable black frame function that enables it to display video input of any resolution below Full HD at any desired position within the device’s active display area.
Generally, in AR glasses, the real space is visible through the black display area, allowing the displayed image to be overlaid on the real space. This function was achieved in the conventional product *2 by generating a video signal for the black display area in the pre-processing side (application processor) and inputting it. However, with the microdisplay device now itself performing this process, it is easy to display images at an arbitrarily set resolution, and this also contributes to low power consumption and low latency for the system.

New Credit Line to Support Small Businesses and Green Projects
To bolster economic activity and promote green financing in Moldova, the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) has announced a new partnership with OCN Microinvest S.R.L., the leading microfinance company in the country. Under this partnership, BSTDB will provide a credit line of up to EUR 10 million, aimed at enhancing financial access for small businesses and supporting the real economy in Moldova.
OCN Microinvest S.R.L. will on-lend the funds offered by BSTDB to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to support their activities and growth. A portion of these funds will be specifically allocated for green financing initiatives, including energy and resource efficiency, green energy and low-carbon technologies.
Signing the loan agreement, Dr. Serhat Köksal, BSTDB President, said: “Developing strategic partnerships with leading financial institutions in our member countries is crucial for fulfilling our mandate, particularly when direct outreach to end users is not feasible. Access to finance for micro, small, and medium enterprises is vital for sustainable and inclusive growth in Moldova. In alignment with our Climate Strategy, we are pleased to see that a portion of our loan will be dedicated to financing green activities, thereby contributing effectively to the decarbonization of the Moldovan economy.”

In November 2023, we introduced the Secure Future Initiative (SFI) to advance cybersecurity protection for Microsoft, our customers, and the industry. In May 2024, we expanded the initiative to focus on six key security pillars, incorporating industry feedback and our own insights. Since the initiative began, we’ve dedicated the equivalent of 34,000 full-time engineers to SFI—making it the largest cybersecurity engineering effort in history. A focus on security above all else
At Microsoft, we recognize our unique responsibility in safeguarding the future for our customers and community. As a result, every individual at Microsoft plays a pivotal role to “prioritize security above all else.” We’ve made significant progress in fostering a security-first culture. Some of the main updates include:
To improve governance, we announced the creation of a new Cybersecurity Governance Council and the appointment of Deputy Chief Information Security Officers (Deputy CISOs) for key security functions and all engineering divisions. Led by our CISO Igor Tsyganskiy, the Deputy CISOs form the Cybersecurity Governance Council, and are responsible for the company’s overall cyber risk, defense, and compliance.
Security is now a core priority for all employees at Microsoft and will be included in their performance reviews. This will empower every employee and manager to commit to—and be accountable for—prioritizing security, and a way for us to codify an employee’s contributions to SFI and celebrate impact.
We launched the Security Skilling Academy, a personalized learning experience of security-specific, curated trainings for all employees worldwide. The academy ensures that no matter the role, employees are equipped to prioritize security in their daily work and identify the direct part they have in securing Microsoft.
To ensure accountability and transparency at the highest levels, Microsoft’s senior leadership team reviews SFI progress weekly and updates are provided to Microsoft’s Board of Directors quarterly. Additionally, Microsoft’s senior leadership team now has security performance directly linked to compensation.

Pillar highlights: A comprehensive approach to cybersecurity
We’ve also made progress across our six key pillars, each representing a critical area of cybersecurity focus. These pillars guide our ongoing work to raise the bar for security across Microsoft and help us meet the evolving demands of the security landscape. These are the most recent updates across these areas:
Protect identities and secrets: We completed updates to Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Account (MSA) for our public and United States government clouds to generate, store, and automatically rotate access token signing keys using the Azure Managed Hardware Security Module (HSM) service. We have continued to drive broad adoption of our standard identity SDKs, which provide consistent validation of security tokens. This standardized validation now covers more than 73% of tokens issued by Microsoft Entra ID for Microsoft owned applications. We have extended standardized security token logging in our standard identity SDKs to support threat hunting and detections and enabled those in several critical services ahead of broad adoption. We completed enforcement of the use of phishing-resistant credentials in our production environments and implemented video-based user verification for 95% of Microsoft internal users in our productivity environments to eliminate password sharing during setup and recovery.
Protect tenants and isolate production systems: We completed a full iteration of app lifecycle management for all of our production and productivity tenants, eliminating 730,000 unused apps. We eliminated 5.75 million inactive tenants, drastically reducing the potential cyberattack surface. We implemented a new system to streamline the creation of testing and experimentation tenants with secure defaults and strict lifetime management enforced. We have deployed more than 15,000 new production-ready locked-down devices in the last three months.
Protect networks: More than 99% of physical assets on the production network are recorded in a central inventory system, which enriches asset inventory with ownership and firmware compliance tracking. Virtual networks with backend connectivity are isolated from the Microsoft corporate network and subject to complete security reviews to reduce lateral movement. To help customers secure their own deployments, we have expanded platform capabilities such as Admin Rules to ease the network isolation of Platform as a Service (PaaS) resources such as Azure Storage, SQL, Cosmos DB, and Key Vault.
Protect engineering systems: 85% of our production build pipelines for the commercial cloud are now using centrally governed pipeline templates, making deployments more consistent, efficient, and trustworthy. We have slimmed down the lifespan of Personal Access Tokens to seven days, disabled Secure Shell (SSH) protocol access for all Microsoft internal engineering repos, and significantly reduced the number for elevated roles with access to engineering systems. We also implemented proof of presence checks for critical chokepoints in our software development code flow.
Monitor and detect threats: We have made significant progress enforcing that all Microsoft production infrastructure and services adopt standard libraries for security audit logs, to ensure relevant telemetry is emitted, and retain logs for a minimum of two years. For instance, we have established central management and a two-year retention period for identity infrastructure security audit logs, encompassing all security audit events throughout the lifecycle of current signing keys. Similarly, more than 99% of network devices are now enabled with centralized security log collection and retention.
Accelerate response and remediation: We updated processes across Microsoft to improve Time to Mitigate for critical cloud vulnerabilities. We began publishing critical cloud vulnerabilities as common vulnerability and exposures (CVEs), even if no customer action is required, to improve transparency. We established the Customer Security Management Office (CSMO) to improve public messaging and customer engagement for security incidents.

Reaffirming our security commitment
In security, consistent progress is more important than “perfection” and this is reflected in the scale of resources mobilized to achieve our SFI objectives. The collective work we are doing to continually increase protection, eliminate legacy or noncompliant assets, and identify remaining systems for monitoring conclusively measures our success. As we look ahead, we remain committed to ongoing improvement. SFI will continue to evolve, adapting to new cyberthreats and refining our security practices. Our commitment to transparency and industry collaboration remains unwavering. Earlier in 2024, Microsoft became a major supporter of the United States Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure by Design pledge, reinforcing our dedication to embedding security into every aspect of our products and services. Additionally, we continue to integrate recommendations from the Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB) to strengthen our cybersecurity approach and enhance resilience.
The work we’ve done so far is only the beginning. We know that cyberthreats will continue to evolve, and we must evolve with them. By fostering this culture of continuous learning and improvement, we are building a future where security is not just a feature, but a foundation.

My summer is coming to an end, which means I’m wrapping up my hiking and backpacking trips. But I’m happy to report that I got out on the trail multiple times, enough to tide me over for a couple months at least! Better yet, I took my new Pixel 9 Pro with me and captured plenty of photos of my outdoor adventures. Here are six features I used to take some of my favorite photos from this summer’s trail trips.
1. Add Me
Add Me was — without a doubt — the most useful Pixel Camera feature for all of these trips. During group adventures of the past, if no one was around to take our photo we’d struggle to position a phone against a tree or a rock, hit the timer and hope to make it into the group shot before it went off. This summer, I would simply snap a pic of my friends and then hand the phone off to a friend, join the scene myself to get an excellent photo of us all.
2. Magic Editor’s Auto Frame
Plenty of times, I find that my trail photos don’t do the actual vastness of the landscape justice, or that I just missed the perfect framing because I was distracted or moving too fast. Magic Editor’s Auto Frame tool is perfect for a few of these images: It uses AI to analyze the layout of a photo you took and reframe the subject as well as expand its borders. It even shows you composition options so you can pick one you like best.
3. Zoom Enhance
Super Res Zoom on Pixel Camera is one of my favorite features for landscape photos; it allows me to zoom in on the details of something far away and still get a sharp image. But sometimes only when I’m looking through my photos later do I wish I’d zoomed in more — thankfully, the new Zoom Enhance feature allows me to do this after I’ve taken a photo. This tool allows me to zoom in and crop an image, and it will intelligently fill in details, making the subject appear sharper and clearer — no graininess in sight. This is different from simply cropping a photo, which often results in a loss of quality.

4. Pro Controls and 50MP
I like some of the photos I take on these trips so much that I want to turn them into canvases or blown-up printed pieces that I can display — which is why I use Pixel Pro Controls to shoot in 50MP at least part of the time. Shooting in 50MP captures higher resolution images, resulting in more fine details that are important for large prints to look good. I also enable RAW, which makes the photo easier to edit later if I want. When you shoot in RAW on Pixel, it will take one regular, JPEG version and one RAW version. If you decide you don’t need that RAW version for editing but still like the photo, you can keep the JPEG, which is a smaller file size. (Plus it’s also fun to see the difference between the fully processed JPG and the RAW image.)
I thought this might make a nice print, so I shot this photo of a sunrise in 50MP.
5. Reimagine
Photos from my excursions don’t always turn out how I remembered the moment. Sometimes what I’d thought was an incredible sunset is more muted than it’d seemed, or I forgot entirely to take a photo of a really beautiful meadow. Here, I thought I’d taken a photo farther down the river where the pine trees were tall and lush — instead, I took one in a more sparse area. Using Magic Editor’s Reimagine feature, I asked the tool to replace the bare trunks with “lush, tall pine trees.”
6. Night Sight plus Panorama Mode
Evening might be my favorite part of a backpacking trip — for one thing, I get some truly excellent sleep after a day of hiking. But I’ll happily put off bedtime to watch the glowing sunsets followed by starry skies. I’ve used Pixel’s Night Sight feature to capture beautiful shots of these dark settings in the past, but now it’s available for panorama shots as well, so I can get an epic, wide field of view that captures the incredible landscape — even in low light.
Speaking of panoramas: Also worth mentioning is the new Panorama Mode, which delivers even higher-quality horizon-spanning images. Its updated UI made it easier than ever to follow along and grab each area of my surroundings, regardless of whether I accidentally tilted the camera — which is pretty easy to do when you’ve got a weekend’s worth of gear on your back.
Now that I’ve got these pictures, all I have to do is get my favorites printed — and start thinking about where I’ll take my Pixel next summer.
