What Is a Psychic Medium? Understanding the Gift of Spirit Communication

In today’s spiritual landscape, the terms “psychic” and “psychic medium” are often used interchangeably, but they represent distinct abilities. A psychic medium is someone who not only possesses heightened intuitive senses but also serves as a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms. While a general psychic might focus on predicting future events, interpreting energy, or giving insight into relationships, a psychic medium specializes in spirit communication—connecting with souls who have passed on.

⇒ Find peace through psychic medium readings with High-rated advisors

    What Is a Psychic Medium?

A psychic medium is an individual with the unique spiritual gift of perceiving and relaying messages from people in the afterlife. While all mediums are psychics, not all psychics are mediums. Psychics receive intuitive insight about a person’s life, but mediums go deeper by channeling spirits, helping clients receive messages from deceased loved ones or spiritual guides.

This form of intuitive communication has been a part of human culture for centuries, from ancient shamans to modern-day mediums and psychics conducting readings via online platforms or spiritual centers. In 2025, digital technology has brought this practice to even more people, with psychic mediums online offering accessible, one-on-one medium readings through chat or phone.

How Do Psychic Mediums Connect With the Spirit World?

Psychic mediums use a combination of heightened senses, energetic alignment, and spiritual attunement to receive information from beyond the veil. Many report entering altered states of consciousness, clearing their energy fields, and opening their mind to receive intuitive impressions from spirits.

Some common types of mediumship include:

    • Clairaudience – the ability to “hear” messages from spirits as internal voices or sounds.
    • Clairsentience – the ability to “feel” a spirit’s emotions, pain, or personality.
    • Clairvoyance – the ability to “see” symbols, images, or scenes sent by the spirit world.
    • Trance Mediumship – where the medium enters a deep state of altered consciousness, allowing spirits to speak through them directly.
    • Physical Mediumship – rarer today, this form involves physical manifestations like raps, knocks, or moving objects during sessions.

Each medium reader develops their own skill set, and many use a combination of these abilities during a session. The result is often a powerful, validating experience that brings emotional comfort and insight.

⇒ Experience powerful healing with a real psychic medium

The Role of a Medium Reader in Healing and Closure

Many people turn to psychic mediums during times of loss, confusion, or emotional turmoil. A session can help bring closure, understanding, or even answers to questions left unresolved after a loved one’s passing.

A skilled medium psychic can offer:

    • Validation that the spirit still exists and is aware of the person’s life
    • Specific messages or memories known only to the client and the deceased
    • Encouragement and emotional release for those in mourning
    • Spiritual guidance from ancestors, guardians, or spirit guides

In short, a good medium acts as both a translator and a healer—someone who interprets subtle energies and transforms them into human language.

Because mediumship is such a profoundly personal and emotional experience, it’s essential to find the right psychic medium for you—someone whose energy, approach, and abilities align with your needs. Some mediums specialize in grief support, others in past-life exploration, while some offer free introductory sessions to help you decide whether they fit.

During this brief session, a gifted psychic medium online may:

    • Offer messages from a loved one who has passed
    • Provide insights into your emotional energy field
    •  Confirm details or symbols associated with someone in spirit

This taste of spiritual connection is designed to help you experience the unique style and ability of the medium before committing to a more extended session. While time is limited, the value can be deep, especially if you’re emotionally open and know what you want to ask.

⇒ Receive guidance through psychic mediums chat 24/7

Even in a short session, free psychic medium readings can be significant. People often use them to ask:

    • “Is my loved one at peace?”
    • “Does my grandmother have a message for me?”
    • “Why do I keep dreaming about someone who has passed?”
    • “Am I being guided by a spirit right now?”
    • “Can anyone in spirit tell me what to do about a tough decision?”

Some mediums will offer validation by sharing a name, date, personality trait, or symbolic message from a spirit. Others may help you sense the presence of someone around you, giving you comfort and connection, even in just a few minutes.

⇒ Trusted psychic mediums available now for grieving hearts

    1. Medium Readings (Spirit Communication)

Medium readings are the heart of spirit communication. In these sessions, a psychic medium online connects with souls who have passed on, delivering messages from the other side.

    You might hear from:

    • A deceased family member with a message of comfort
    • A friend offering guidance or an apology
    • Ancestors or spirit guides give wisdom and protection

Mediums often rely on clairvoyance, clairaudience, or clairsentience to receive these messages. This medium reading is beneficial for grief healing, emotional closure, or validation that your loved ones are still around.

Offered for free? Yes, many platforms now offer limited-time free psychic medium readings—ideal for experiencing this form of spirit connection without commitment.

⇒ Reconnect spiritually with psychic mediums chat sessions

    2. Psychic Readings (Life Path and Love Predictions)

Not all psychics are mediums. Psychic readings typically focus on the energy surrounding your current and future life situations, like love, career, or personal growth.

In these sessions, a psychic may use intuition, tarot cards, numerology, or energy reading to explore:

    • When your soulmate may appear
    • Whether a relationship will succeed
    • What career move is aligned with your energy
    • The emotional blocks holding you back

These psychic medium readings can bring clarity and confidence, especially when you feel lost, anxious, or unsure about what’s ahead.

Offered for free? Yes, many psychic platforms offer short, medium, and psychic readings with no credit card required.

⇒ Feel the comfort of a psychic medium reading today

    3. Past Life Readings

Have you ever felt drawn to a specific period, culture, or even a person, without knowing why?

Past life readings explore your soul’s journey across previous incarnations. A psychic or medium may receive visions or impressions that help explain current fears, relationships, or life patterns.

    These readings often help clients:

    • Understand soul contracts and karmic ties
    • Heal phobias or emotional wounds that seem unexplainable
    • Recognize lifelong soulmates or twin flames

Offered for free? Some psychics provide a glimpse into one’s past life or a brief overview in free psychic medium readings, though deeper past life work may require a full session.

⇒ Connect with Certified psychic mediums offering free trial minutes

    4. Channeling

In channeling sessions, a psychic medium online becomes a conduit for higher spiritual entities, guides, or even specific souls who wish to speak directly.

    It may include:

    • Messages from angels or ascended masters
    • Guidance from universal consciousness
    • Symbolic language or healing codes

Channeling can be highly specific or abstract, depending on the psychic’s skill and the message’s source.

Offered for free? It is less common as a free trial, but introductory medium readings may provide brief channeling messages.

    5. Automatic Writing

Automatic writing is a form of channeled communication where the medium writes down messages from the spirit in real time, often without consciously thinking.

    It can include:

    • Personal letters from loved ones who’ve passed
    • Advice from spirit guides
    • Symbolic messages for reflection

It’s a powerful method for people who resonate with written words or want something tangible to revisit.

Offered for free? Occasionally provided as a sample message in free psychic medium readings.

Before Your Reading: Mindset, Setting & Intentions

    1. Clear Your Mindset
Approach the session with openness, not expectation. Spirit communication doesn’t always follow a script—sometimes, the message you need is different from the one you want. Let go of rigid demands and allow the energy to flow naturally.

    2. Choose a Calm Setting
Whether your session is over the phone or with a psychic medium online, pick a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed. Light a candle, play soft music, or sit silently for a few minutes to center yourself.

    3. Set Clear Intentions

    Ask yourself:

    • What am I hoping to understand or heal?
    • Is there a specific loved one I’d like to connect with?
    • Am I seeking closure, guidance, or reassurance?

You don’t need to share your full intentions with the medium, but having clarity in your heart can help guide the session’s energy.

⇒ Discover real psychic mediums online you can trust

During the Reading: Stay Open & Observe Validation

    1. Expect a Variety of Messages
Psychic medium readings often start with small validations—names, memories, or details only you would know. These are signs that a loved one or spirit guide is present. Messages can be symbolic, metaphorical, or very direct.

    2. Ask Open-Ended Questions
Instead of “Will I get the job?” ask, “What energy surrounds my career path right now?” It allows the medium reader to share insights without being boxed into a yes/no framework and invites a more intuitive flow of guidance.

    3. Don’t Try to “Test” the Medium
Skepticism is natural, but challenging a medium with trick questions can block the connection. Spirit communication requires trust, patience, and cooperation on both ends.

⇒ Explore psychic medium readings that bring healing

After the Reading: Reflect, Record & Integrate

    1. Take Notes Immediately
Write down everything you remember—names, phrases, images, emotions. Even if something seems unclear, it may click later or carry meaning in future days.

    2. Reflect on the Energy
How did the experience make you feel? Did you sense peace, relief, surprise, or deep emotion? Trust those responses—they’re part of your spiritual journey.

    3. Allow for Ongoing Guidance
The trusted psychic medium sessions often leave a lasting impression. Messages may continue to unfold through dreams, signs, or spontaneous memories. Stay aware and open.

How Accurate Are Psychic Mediums? Debunking Myths & Understanding Validation

In a world where spiritual guidance and emotional healing are increasingly sought after, many wonder: How accurate are psychic mediums? Are they truly connecting with spirit, or is it all just clever guesswork?

At The-Psychic-Experts.com, we’ve researched and reviewed countless psychic medium readings to understand what makes a session authentic. Here’s what you need to know about accuracy, common myths, and how real medium readers validate their gift.

    Understanding How Psychic Mediums Work

A psychic medium is not just a general psychic who reads energy—they are spiritual communicators who connect with the spirit realm. Unlike tarot readers or astrologers who use tools, psychic mediums receive messages through extrasensory channels such as:

    • Clairvoyance (seeing images)
    • Clairaudience (hearing messages)
    • Clairsentience (feeling emotions or physical sensations)
    • Claircognizance (knowing without knowing how)

These messages often come in symbols or sensations that the medium reader interprets based on intuition and experience.

    Common Myths About Medium Accuracy

MYTH 1: All Mediums Should Be 100% Accurate

No psychic medium is perfect. The spirit world communicates through energy, which can be subtle, symbolic, or fragmented. Accuracy can also depend on the connection between the client and the medium, the presence of spirit, and even emotional readiness to receive a message.

MYTH 2: If They Ask Questions, They’re Faking It

Good medium psychics may ask clarifying questions to ensure they interpret symbols correctly. It’s not fishing—it’s collaboration. Spirit often gives vague or layered imagery that needs client feedback to make sense.

MYTH 3: All Psychics Are Scammers

While frauds exist, the trusted psychic mediums are honest about their limitations. They’ll never guarantee specific outcomes or manipulate emotions. Look for transparency, empathy, and a clear code of ethics.

⇒ Receive messages from loved ones with psychic medium chat

Real Signs of Accuracy in a Medium Reading

When a psychic medium is truly tuned in, you may experience:

    • Personal Validations: Names, dates, physical traits, or habits of loved ones who’ve passed.
    • Symbolic Details: Items like “a red balloon” or “an old photograph” mean something unique to you.
    • Emotional Resonance: You feel deeply moved, not scared or confused, by the messages received.
    • Unexpected Connections: A message or detail you didn’t expect but later discovered to be true.

Accuracy isn’t just about “getting things right”—it’s about delivering meaningful, healing messages that feel genuine.

⇒ Find affordable and trusted psychic mediums near you

    Can Online Mediums Be Accurate?

Absolutely. The spirit realm transcends physical space so that psychic medium online sessions can be as powerful as in-person ones. Whether through free online medium chats or phone sessions, what matters most is the medium’s ability to receive and interpret energy.

⇒ Chat with a certified psychic medium in seconds

    5. Peace of Mind—Even When You Don’t Hear from Spirit

Not every session delivers the message you hoped for. Sometimes, spirit doesn’t come through immediately, or the medium interprets symbols differently than expected. But even in silence, many clients walk away with peace.

Why? Because the medium reading process itself invites mindfulness, reflection, and a shift in awareness. It’s about being open, not about guaranteed answers.

    6. Try Before You Commit

Choosing a psychic medium online can feel intimidating. Free trials are a risk-free way to evaluate:

    • Communication style
    • Empathy and professionalism
    • Connection quality
    • Comfort with the process

It ensures you only pay for deeper sessions with someone you trust.

How to Tell If a Psychic Medium Is Real or Fake

Finding someone truly gifted can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack in the growing world of psychic medium readings. As more people explore medium and psychic readings online, it’s crucial to separate genuine psychic mediums from those using cold reading tricks or vague guesswork.

Here’s how to tell if a psychic medium is the real deal—and how to protect yourself from scams, especially when trying a free psychic medium reading online.

⇒ Find trusted guidance through psychic medium readings

    1. They Offer Specific, Validating Information

A real medium doesn’t rely on broad generalizations like “I sense someone with the letter J.” Instead, they may deliver:

    • Names or nicknames
    • Unique personality traits of the deceased
    • Private memories or inside jokes
    • Specific symbols that hold meaning to you

A credible medium reader may also ask you to validate the information instead of fishing for clues.

    2. They’re Transparent About Their Process

Authentic medium psychics don’t pretend to be all-knowing. They’ll likely explain how spirit messages come through (e.g., clairaudience, clairsentience, symbols, impressions) and will humbly admit if they don’t understand something.

    Avoid anyone who:

    • Promises 100% accuracy
    • Claims to remove curses for extra fees
    • Pushes you to book additional sessions
    • Uses fear-based language (e.g., “You’re in danger unless you…”)

The trusted psychic medium reads with compassion, not pressure.

⇒ Get peace of mind with psychic mediums chat support

    3. Their Energy Feels Safe and Grounded

Intuition is your strongest tool. Ask yourself:

    • Do you feel emotionally safe talking to this person?
    • Are they kind, respectful, and focused on helping, not impressing?
    • Do their messages feel uplifting, even if emotional?

Genuine psychic mediums offer messages with empathy, not ego.

    4. They Don’t Need to Know Anything About You

A real psychic medium doesn’t need your full name, birth date, or backstory to connect with the spirit. Many prefer to know as little as possible to keep the reading pure.

Be wary if a reader asks excessive personal questions before your session, especially during a free medium reading trial.

    5. Their Free Reading Has Real Value

Legit psychic medium online services often offer a free psychic medium reading to demonstrate their ability and help you decide whether to continue.

Even in a short 3–5-minute session, a real medium may:

    • Deliver one powerful message
    • Mention a spirit around you
    • Share a meaningful sign or detail
    • It might be brief, but it will feel personal, not scripted.

⇒ Get peace of mind with psychic mediums chat support

    6. They Don’t Play on Grief or Fear

Mediums work with delicate emotional territory. Reputable mediums and psychics never use your grief as leverage. They won’t tell you your loved one is “trapped” or that you must pay more to “complete” a message.

Authentic psychic medium readings bring healing and empowerment, not dependency or fear.

    7. Reviews Focus on Connection, Not Hype

    Look for testimonials that describe:

    • Accurate messages
    • Emotional breakthroughs

If you’re seeking communication with a deceased loved one, a medium reading can be a valuable experience.

Do I need to believe for it to work?

Belief is not a requirement for a psychic medium reading to be compelling. Mediums connect to spirit energy independent of your skepticism or faith. Being open-minded and receptive can enhance the experience, but many clients report insightful readings regardless of their initial beliefs.

Are psychic mediums safe or legit online?

The rise of psychic medium online services has made it easier to find gifted readers. While many reputable platforms offer verified mediums, using trusted sites like The-Psychic-Experts.com is essential to avoid scams. Look for transparent policies, clear pricing, and authentic testimonials. Always trust your intuition and discontinue any session that feels uncomfortable.

Can I get an accurate psychic medium reading without paying?

Free psychic medium readings often provide a snapshot of a medium’s abilities and usually include one or two meaningful messages. While these are valuable, complete, in-depth readings typically require payment due to the time and skill involved. TIANJIN, May 31 (Xinhua) — Ji Jiantao, a technician with Nongxin Technology (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., trains local farmers on how to use autonomous driving systems for agricultural machinery during the peak soybean planting season in Ussuriysk, Russia.

“We are continuously increasing innovative developments in the field of smart agriculture and have already supplied dozens of sets of auto-navigation equipment to Russia,” said the company’s senior engineer Yan Bingxin at the China-SCO AI cooperation forum held on May 29 in Tianjin.

The synergy of “AI plus agriculture” not only transforms the industry, but also reflects China’s contribution to the creation of global AI-based public goods. Xinhua learned that the forum, titled “Chinese Intelligence for the Benefit of the SCO,” has become an important platform for promoting the “Shanghai Spirit” and strengthening cooperation in new areas, aiming to deepen practical cooperation in AI development and governance.

Artificial intelligence is a strategic technology that defines the new scientific and technological revolution. In recent years, China has made comprehensive and systematic progress in the innovative development of AI, forming a relatively complete industrial system in the field of AI.

Cleaning robots with “computer vision,” heavy-duty robots for transporting wind turbine blades, digital systems for high-precision medical examinations – as a key participant in the SCO’s digital cooperation, China is promoting the implementation of AI solutions in the organization’s countries. Dozens of technology companies are demonstrating notable results.

In one of the swimming pools in Kazakhstan, a cleaning robot with hybrid infrared-ultrasonic sensors, using AI algorithms, thoroughly cleans every corner of it. The robot is controlled via a mobile application.

“Users monitor the cleaning process remotely,” explained Yu Guoxing, international sales manager at Deepinfar Ocean Technology Co., Ltd. According to him, the Kazakhstani distributor purchased 40 devices at one time, and the attractiveness of the products is actively expanding the customer base in Russia, Tajikistan and other countries.

The “Plan for the Establishment of the China-SCO AI Applied Cooperation Center” was presented at the forum. The center will open its doors to all SCO member countries to ensure inclusive access to artificial intelligence technologies.

The forum participants expressed their readiness to jointly expand cooperation in the field of applied solutions, develop the digital economy and deepen innovative interaction, directing “intellectual dividends” to ensure high-quality development.

“Cooperation in the field of AI is one of the most dynamic areas of interaction in the SCO,” said Deputy Secretary General of the organization Oleg Kopylov. According to him, within the framework of the SCO, the interconnectedness of AI infrastructure will be strengthened, the technology ecosystem will be improved, industrial development will be synchronized, and academic exchanges will be deepened. -0-

  • MIL-OSI USA: Murphy Opposes DHS Plan to Reprogram Border and Cybersecurity Funding to Ice, Highlighting National Security Implications of Their Reckless Spending

    US Senate News:

Source: United States Senator for Connecticut – Chris Murphy

    May 30, 2025

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, on Friday objected to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) transfer notification that would move $312.5 million from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In a letter to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, Murphy criticized the Department for purposefully spending beyond its means and highlighted the national security implications of transferring funding from CISA.

Murphy noted that the Department’s transfer authority is supposed to be used sparingly and in unforeseen circumstances, not as a way to spend money they don’t have: “I remind the Department that Congress provided transfer and reprogramming authorities in acknowledgment of unforeseeable and compelling circumstances that may arise after Congress has provided funds for the current fiscal year. The Department should not abuse this authority for avoidable reasons as is the case with this proposed notification. Since the start of this Administration, the Department has knowingly and willfully spent above its means, putting ICE on a path to becoming anti-deficient or simply, spending more funding than you are authorized to spend.”

Murphy demanded more information about the impact of transferring funding from CISA, given the role it plays in keeping the nation safe from cybersecurity threats: “Further, the Department has failed to provide my staff sufficient details on the impacts of transferring nearly $144,000,000 away from CISA operations and procurements… To that end, I reiterate my staff’s request for information on the impacts of these reductions to CISA’s capacity to mitigate threats to our national security through its cyber defense and critical infrastructure protection activities, including the impacts of proposed transfers of election security funding.”

Murphy rebuked Secretary Noem at a hearing on the Administration’s skinny budget request for her department’s ‘out of control’ spending, illegal impoundments of Congressional appropriated funds, and for targeting and deporting legal immigrants and student protesters without due process.

Full text of the letter is available HERE and below.

    Dear Madam Secretary:

This letter is in response to the April 30, 2025, notification submitted to the Committee by Mr. Jeffrey Bobich, the Director of Financial Management of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to transfer a total of $312,500,000 from the fiscal year 2025 funding levels for U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)—Operations and Support—Custody Operations.

I do not support the proposed transfers. Additionally, I remind the Department that Congress provided transfer and reprogramming authorities in acknowledgment of unforeseeable and compelling circumstances that may arise after Congress has provided funds for the current fiscal year. The Department should not abuse this authority for avoidable reasons as is the case with this proposed notification. Since the start of this Administration, the Department has knowingly and willfully spent above its means, putting ICE on a path to becoming anti-deficient or simply, spending more funding than you are authorized to spend. The Administration and this Department have continued to ignore funding limits set by Congress, overspending at levels that it cannot sustain and turning to other Departments, such as the Department of Defense to augment its funding.

Further, the Department has failed to provide my staff sufficient details on the impacts of transferring nearly $144,000,000 away from CISA operations and procurements. Transfer and reprogramming notices should be accompanied by adequate justifications and the Department should seek to provide rapid and sufficient responses to questions. To that end, I reiterate my staff’s request for information on the impacts of these reductions to CISA’s capacity to mitigate threats to our national security through its cyber defense and critical infrastructure protection activities, including the impacts of proposed transfers of election security funding.

  • MIL-OSI China: When AI out-writes writers, can human creativity survive?

Source: People’s Republic of China – State Council News

At the 2025 Lijiang River Literary Award ceremony in south China’s Guilin City, Liu Chuxin, a research assistant at the Hubei Academy of Social Sciences, stood on stage, clutching the trophy for his novel “Ni Tan,” or literally “Mud Pit.” His voice cracked with emotion.

Han Song, Chinese journalist and famous sci-fi writer, speaks at the opening forum for 2014 Xingyun (Nebula) Award for Global Chinese Science Fiction in Beijing, capital of China, Nov. 1, 2014. (Xinhua/Li Yibo)

As he recounted the personal tale of his 20-year literary journey, he spoke of his late girlfriend, who had died of cancer. She left him a final letter — an aching plea to turn his grief into a masterpiece. He shared something she had once said to him: “In life, we experience many pains, but when we look back, they are all legends.” Her memory and his words resonated with the audience.

The young writer’s emotional speech was not merely a celebration of a personal success born of pain, but perhaps also, unknowingly, a reflection of a profound shift underway in the world of creation. His story, rooted in grief and human experience, stood in quiet contrast to the emotionless output of artificial intelligence — a force that, despite feeling no joy, sorrow, or loss, is now seemingly beginning to out-write, out-create, and out-imagine human beings.

A month before this speech, another literary figure, the famed science fiction author Liu Cixin, shared his own disquiet at the pace of AI’s creative advancements.

Speaking at a reading promotion event in April 2025, Liu, whose “Three-Body Problem” trilogy has become a global sci-fi phenomenon, admitted that his creative spark had waned in recent years. He confessed, “The inspiration and drive to write that once surged within me are becoming increasingly rare.” For Liu, who has been lauded for his visionary worlds, this sense of creative stagnation was no abstract worry — it was profoundly felt. “The bottleneck I face now is a constant,” he said. “It’s like searching for meteorites in the vast, barren Gobi Desert — I simply can’t find the kind of inspiration that once excited and moved me.”

But perhaps the most disconcerting moment in Liu’s reflection came when he turned to the AI model DeepSeek to continue a chapter of a novel he had written. The result left him shaken: “What it produced was far better than what I could have written myself,” Liu confessed. The revelation left him with a deep sense of loss. As AI improved its capacity to mimic and even enhance human creativity, Liu was left to ponder whether his role as a writer, one of the most coveted in the literary world, might soon be usurped by a machine.

A conversation about the future of human creativity is taking place across China, not only among writers like Liu Cixin but also among artists, thinkers and scientists. Could AI, now advancing at breakneck speed, become the superior creative force, a challenge not just to the craftsmanship of individual writers, but to the very notion of creativity itself?

Han Song, another acclaimed science fiction author, offered his own perspective on the rise of AI in writing. “AI opens up new possibilities for collaboration,” Han told Xinhua. “It can provide insights, spark ideas, and even suggest solutions that may not occur to human minds. But at the same time, there are elements of human creativity — our lived experiences, our ability to intuit, to draw from the depths of emotion — that AI cannot replicate. Not yet.”

In Han’s view, creativity is tied to human consciousness and emotional fluctuation — something that remains far from being resolved in the field of computing. “AI operates within the boundaries of what algorithms can exhaust,” he explained, “but creativity often arises from the mysterious workings of human awareness.”

Rather than replacing writers, Han suggested that AI could serve as a creative partner — one that can augment, but not replace human creativity.

He pointed to the potential for AI to push the boundaries of science fiction and create ideas that challenge even the best minds. “AI models can analyze vast amounts of data and uncover connections that would take humans years to discover,” Han noted. “They can generate speculative ideas that are groundbreaking, bringing fresh approaches to old problems.” In the future, he added, writing science fiction without the assistance of AI models may simply no longer be viable.

However, some others are less sanguine about AI’s growing role in the world of creativity. Yu Baimei, a director and screenwriter, expressed concerns about the future of human art in the wake of AI’s advancements. At the 2025 Beijing International Film Festival, Yu argued that AI’s ability to digitally map creativity was both exhilarating and terrifying. He contended that AI would eventually learn and replicate not just technical skills but the very essence of human creativity, surpassing the limits of human imagination.

Yu highlighted the mathematical and algorithmic foundations of AI’s learning process. “AI can analyze, simulate and recreate the patterns in human creative works that we, as humans, might never even notice,” he said. “In the future, its creativity could overwhelm humanity, not in the sense of destroying us, but in the sense of rendering our artistic endeavors obsolete.”

Indeed, as AI models continue to evolve, they bring us closer to a future where human creativity is not only complemented by machines but, in some cases, overshadowed. Liu Cixin’s statement about feeling “displaced” by AI’s creations speaks to a deep existential fear that many artists now face: that the very nature of art — rooted in personal experience, imperfection and the mysterious processes of the human mind — could be lost in the march of technological progress.

But there is another side to this argument. Just as the advent of photography, cinema and digital media did not render traditional art forms obsolete, some believe that AI will not diminish the value of human creativity, but rather push it to evolve in unforeseen ways.

Whether AI will ever surpass human creativity entirely is still a matter of speculation. But one thing seems clear: the relationship between art and technology is entering new, uncharted territory. As AI’s capabilities continue to grow, writers, artists and creators of all kinds must grapple with the challenge of defining their place in a world where the boundaries between human and machine creativity are becoming increasingly blurred.

Liu Cixin, for one, remains hopeful. Despite his frustration with his own creative limitations, he expressed a curious sense of gratitude towards AI. “At first, I didn’t pay much attention to AI, but now I find myself emotionally connected to it,” he said. “Due to the biological nature of the human brain, there are certain cognitive limits that cannot be surpassed. However, AI may have the potential to break through those barriers.”

  • MIL-OSI Canada: Update on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s actions at an HPAI infected premise at a British Columbia ostrich farm

    Source: Government of Canada News

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Canada’s national poultry sectors have been responding to detections of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Canada since December 2021. Industry has been highly supportive of the CFIA in its response to HPAI, working collaboratively to implement control measures and protect animal health.

The CFIA has acted to minimize the risk of the virus spreading within Canadian flocks and to other animals. All avian influenza viruses, particularly H5 and H7 viruses, have the potential to infect mammals, including humans. Our disease response aims to protect public and animal health, minimize impacts on the domestic poultry industry, and the Canadian economy.

The CFIA’s response to highly pathogenic avian influenza in domestic poultry is based on an approach known as “stamping-out”, as defined by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Terrestrial Animal Health Code. Stamping-out is the internationally recognized standard and is a primary tool to manage the spread of HPAI and mitigate risks to animal and human health as well as enable international trade. It includes steps to eliminate the virus from an infected premises, including the humane depopulation and disposal of infected animals, and disinfection of premises.

There are ongoing risks to animal and human health and Canada’s export market access

Allowing a domestic poultry flock known to be exposed to HPAI to remain alive means a potential source of the virus persists. It increases the risk of reassortment or mutation of the virus, particularly with birds raised in open pasture where there is ongoing exposure to wildlife.

CFIA’s National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease (NCFAD) identified that the current HPAI infection in these ostriches is a novel reassortment not seen elsewhere in Canada. This assortment includes the D1.3 genotype, which has been associated with a human infection in a poultry worker in Ohio.

A human case of H5N1 in BC earlier this year required critical care, and an extended hospital stay for the patient, and there have been a number of human cases in the United States, including a fatality.

Stamping-out and primary control zones enable international trade as it allows Canada to contain outbreaks within a specific area, meet the requirements of zoning arrangements with trading partners, and permit Canada’s poultry industry to export from disease-free regions. Continued export market access supports Canadian families and poultry farmers whose livelihoods depend on maintaining international market access for $1.75 billion in exports.

Current status of the infected premise at Universal Ostrich Farm

Universal Ostrich Farm has not cooperated with the requirements set out under the Health of Animals Act including failure to report the initial cases of illness and deaths to the CFIA and failure to adhere to quarantine orders. Universal Ostrich Farm was issued two notices of violations with penalty, totaling $20,000.

The farm also failed to undertake appropriate biosecurity risk mitigation measures such as limiting wild bird access to the ostriches, controlling water flow from the quarantine zone to other parts of the farm, or improving fencing. These actions significantly increase the risk of disease transmission and reflect a disregard for regulatory compliance and animal health standards.

Universal Ostrich Farm has not substantiated their claims of scientific research. CFIA has not received any evidence of scientific research being done at the infected premises.

Research documentation was not provided during the review of their request for exemption from the disposal order based on unique genetics or during the judicial review process. Further, the current physical facilities at their location are not suitable for controlled research activities or trials.

On May 13, 2025, the Federal court dismissed both of Universal Ostrich Farm’s applications for judicial review. The interlocutory injunction pausing the implementation of the disposal order was also vacated.

Following the May 13 court ruling, the farm owners and supporters have been at the farm in an apparent attempt to prevent the CFIA from carrying out its operations at the infected premises. This has delayed a timely and appropriate response to the HPAI infected premises, resulting in ongoing health risks to animals and humans.

CFIA’s next steps at the infected premises

Given that the flock has had multiple laboratory-confirmed cases of H5N1 and the ongoing serious risks for animal and human health, and trade, the CFIA continues planning for humane depopulation with veterinary oversight at the infected premises.

The CFIA takes the responsibility to protect the health of animals and Canadians extremely seriously as we conduct these necessary disease control measures to protect public health and minimize the economic impact on Canada’s poultry industry.

  • MIL-OSI USA: Celebrating 30 Years of the MLEF Program and Welcoming the Class of 2025

    Source: US Department of Energy

What an exciting year! 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program, which was created in 1995 to strengthen a pipeline of future science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals. Designed to provide hands-on research and development experience under the mentorship of leading energy experts, the MLEF program has evolved significantly over the last three decades, transforming research projects into real-world innovations and student experiences into impactful careers.

The MLEF Program’s 2025 class and speakers at the kickoff event.

On May 29, the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) welcomed the 2025 class of undergraduate and graduate students at a kickoff event at the U.S. Department of Energy  (DOE) in Washington, D.C. This year’s cohort includes 49 undergraduate and master’s students, representing 39 academic institutions and 19 states, and the District of Columbia.

FECM’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Tala Goudarzi, welcomed the students by highlighting the critical role of fossil energy in ensuring national energy security and supporting economic future. She underscored the importance of the next generation of STEM leaders in driving the technological advancements that will shape the future of the energy industry.

“The science discovered and developed at the national laboratories over the past several decades has greatly benefited both our country and the world, by reducing energy costs and improving accessibility,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Goudarzi. “This program is significant and something you should all take pride in. It has already made a remarkable impact—and will continue to do so—by helping shape the next generation of STEM leaders, who have a critical role in driving innovation across all fields.”

Throughout the day, students heard from a range of speakers and gained valuable insight into the history and mission of FECM and its research, development, and demonstration portfolio. Students also had the opportunity to network with DOE leadership and begin building the professional relationships that will shape their experience in the months ahead.

The Director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), Marianne Walck, shared, “The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship Program is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore real-world energy challenges while gaining experience in a national laboratory setting. At NETL, you’ll connect with world-class researchers, contribute to energy research projects, and build relationships with students from universities across the country.”

This year’s participants will conduct research either in person or virtually with several DOE offices and laboratories. The program will conclude in August with a technical forum where participants will present their final research findings.

Keep up to date with this year’s class!

Once again, congratulations to all of the students who will be completing their research with DOE this summer, and we look forward to seeing how your research evolves. To those interested in learning more about the MLEF Program, visit the MLEF website and follow FECM on LinkedIn, Facebook, and X to keep up to date with this year’s class and the individual research projects.

  • MIL-OSI Security: Former Fort Belvoir soldier pleads guilty to assaulting and permanently injuring a newborn child, sexually abusing an adult

Source: Office of United States Attorneys

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A former U.S. Army private pled guilty today to two counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of sexual abuse.

According to court documents, from October 2010 to September 2013, Austin Blair Johnson, while he was an active duty soldier, resided on Fort Belvoir. On June 25, 2012, Johnson was watching an infant, identified as Minor Victim 1 (MV1), who was born prematurely only 16 days earlier. MV1 was crying, so Johnson picked her up and carried her, but she continued to cry. While holding MV1 in front of him with one hand under each of her arms, Johnson rapidly and forcefully shook MV1 multiple times before letting go of her, causing her to flip and land on her head.

Johnson then picked up MV1 and ran with her upstairs to a bedroom where he woke MV1’s mother, identified as Adult Victim 1 (AV1). Johnson falsely told AV1 that he had accidentally dropped MV1 and that he had successfully broken her fall with his foot. AV1 and Johnson took MV1 to the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital emergency room where she presented with a fever, bruising on her head and shoulder, and blood coming out of her mouth. A CT scan conducted there revealed that MV1’s skull had been fractured. MV1 was transferred later to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Walter Reed Medical Center. MV1 was diagnosed with extensive injuries and remained hospitalized at Walter Reed for the next 10 days.

The day she was discharged, MV1 was left in Johnson’s care while AV1 was out. Johnson again rapidly and forcefully shook MV1 and dropped her. MV1 was 26 days old. The following morning, AV1 took MV1 to a previously scheduled follow-up appointment with a pediatrician at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. At the appointment, MV1 began having seizures and was sent directly to the emergency room. MV1 was transferred later to the PICU at Children’s National Medical Center, where doctors discovered myriad injuries, including a second skull fracture, and identified extensive brain damage.

When she was finally discharged on July 20, 2012, MV1 was placed in the custody of Child Protective Services, where she remained for approximately 14 months until she was returned to the custody of Johnson and AV1. On June 22, 2015, MV1 was forced to undergo a hemispherectomy during which the entire left hemisphere of her brain was removed in an effort to control her irrepressible seizures.

MV1 is now legally blind, non-verbal, and the entire right side of her body is paralyzed. Cognitively, MV1 functions at the level of a mature infant.

In addition to his assaults on MV1, in 2013, at their residence on Fort Belvoir, after AV1 had rebuffed Johnson’s requests to be intimate with her, Johnson proceeded without her consent. AV1 protested and tried to hit Johnson to get him to stop, which he did.

Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 22, 2025. He faces up to life in prison. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Erik S. Siebert, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Emily Odom, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Washington Field Office’s Criminal and Cyber Division, made the announcement after Senior U.S. District Judge Claude M. Hilton accepted the plea.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander E. Blanchard is prosecuting the case.

  • MIL-OSI Canada: Advancing North American energy dominance

Joined by Parliamentary Secretary Chantelle de Jonge, the delegation will showcase Alberta’s position as a leader in responsible energy development in Washington, D.C.

While in the U.S. capital from June 2-7, Alberta’s delegations will meet with industry leaders, technology innovators and American government officials to advance partnerships and lay the foundation for advancing North American energy dominance and alleviating global energy poverty.

They will leverage their attendance at the Energy Council’s 2025 Federal Energy and Environmental Matters Conference, the U.S. Energy Streams 10th Washington Energy Forum and the S&P Global Oil Sands Dialogue to support Alberta in becoming a major global energy supplier.

This mission comes at an important time in Alberta’s relationship with the U.S., as we work to broaden our trade partnerships globally and navigate complex geopolitical environments.

“While Alberta seeks to enter new global markets, we know that the U.S. remains our largest trading partner, and we believe that through advocacy – this important relationship can and will be maintained. Alberta’s energy future is unstoppable and has a key role to play in helping the U.S. meet its growing energy needs and global energy dominance ambition in a secure and reliable way unmatched by any other energy partner.”

    Danielle Smith, Premier

“The world needs more of Alberta’s oil, gas and minerals to meet ever evolving energy needs and reduce reliance on products from conflict zones. Alberta can play a crucial role in advancing North American energy dominance and we will work on the partnerships that will lead to a secure energy future.”

Brian Jean, Minister of Energy and Minerals

“Alberta’s competitive electricity market and business-friendly environment make our province a destination of choice for investors and a leader in innovative technologies. I am proud to carry that message to our partners south of the border as we continue to build our energy future.”

Nathan Neudorf, Minister of Affordability and Utilities

“Alberta is a global leader in responsible energy development. I look forward to working with our U.S. partners to advance new opportunities in our energy sector that will reap benefits on both sides of the border.”

Chantelle de Jonge, parliamentary secretary for Affordability and Utilities

This mission builds on the success of CERAWeek in March and is part of Alberta’s continued efforts to promote our vast resource base and responsible energy sector and increase market access for the province’s ethically produced energy, both traditional and emerging.

Trip expenses for elected officials and staff will be posted on the travel and expense disclosure page.

Alberta’s government is committed to working with national and international partners to advance shared interests that can lead to new opportunities for people and businesses in Alberta and around the world. • MIL-OSI USA: Chairman Lawler Concludes Bipartisan Middle East CODEL on Enhancing Regional Partnerships

Source: US Congressman Mike Lawler (R, NY-17)

Washington, D.C. – 5/30/25… This week, Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, concluded a bipartisan Congressional Delegation (CODEL) to Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Jordan, where he and fellow House Foreign Affairs Committee members engaged with regional leaders to advance shared interests, address ongoing challenges, and reinforce America’s commitment to peace in the Middle East.

With Iran continuing to actively fund terror proxies and pursue a nuclear weapons program, the delegation placed a strong emphasis on deepening security coordination with key U.S. allies. In particular, the group explored emerging diplomatic opportunities in Syria and Lebanon, two countries where Iran’s malign influence has waned and where strategic engagement could help foster long-term stability.

Conversations also centered on defeating Hamas, securing the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza, and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches Palestinian civilians directly, without interference from Hamas. The CODEL built on the momentum of President Trump’s recent visit to the region and explored new opportunities for economic cooperation and investment, especially in AI and emerging technologies across Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states.

Joining Congressman Lawler on the delegation were Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (FL-20), Ranking Member of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, and Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-10), Chairman Emeritus of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Dmitry Chernyshenko’s working visit to Nizhny Novgorod. The Deputy Prime Minister spoke with students and teachers at the Nizhny Novgorod Automotive Technical School

During his working visit to the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko visited a number of educational and scientific institutions.

In particular, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Education of Russia Sergey Kravtsov and Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin assessed the organization of the process of conducting the state final certification of schoolchildren. They visited one of the points where the Unified State Exam is held – at School No. 111 in Nizhny Novgorod, where the Russian language exam is being held for more than 200 children.

Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that the main stage of the Unified State Exam began on May 23 in all 89 regions of Russia and 55 foreign countries. Today, the Unified State Exam in Russian is taking place – this is the most massive exam, with more than 640 thousand people registered to take it on the main day.

During the trip, Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sergey Kravtsov and Gleb Nikitin assessed how the security point works and how security measures are organized at the exam point, and also watched the broadcast from other exam points in different regions. The school also demonstrated how work is organized at the headquarters of the exam point.

“The procedure for the Unified State Exam has been streamlined in our country over the years and is conducted at the highest level. All assignments are printed directly in the classroom and transmitted in encrypted form, which completely eliminates the possibility of leaks. This is a unique technology that has no analogues in any country in the world. It guarantees absolute transparency and objectivity of the exam, providing equal conditions for all graduates. This year, more than 700 thousand are taking the Unified State Exam. In general, the exam is held in the normal mode, we will do everything possible to ensure that schoolchildren receive their results as soon as possible,” said Sergey Kravtsov.

According to Gleb Nikitin, this year the region has organized 91 exam centers, which operate on the basis of educational organizations. The exam centers are equipped with video surveillance, metal detectors and mobile phone jammers. This is the most important condition for organizing high-quality and objective state final certification of school graduates.

In addition, Dmitry Chernyshenko, together with Governor Gleb Nikitin, visited the world-class IT campus “Neimark”, the Nizhny Novgorod State University named after N.I. Lobachevsky (NNSU) and the Nizhny Novgorod Automotive Technical School.

“A world-class inter-university campus is being created in Nizhny Novgorod, thanks to which new technologies will be developed. They will be aimed at achieving the national goal set by President Vladimir Putin – technological leadership, and will also be useful for the colleges of the federal project “Professionality”, – said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The Deputy Prime Minister assessed the site where the first stage of the IT campus is currently being completed – 18 student hostels. The work is being carried out under the federal project “Creating a Network of Modern Campuses” of the national project “Youth and Children”. It is planned that the first guests of the new complex will be participants of the World Youth Festival, which will be held in Nizhny Novgorod from September 17 to 21, 2025 and will bring together young people from Russia and foreign countries. Students of the Neimark University will move into the buildings from October.

Dmitry Chernyshenko and Gleb Nikitin sealed time capsules with messages to future generations from the governments of the country and the region. In particular, they emphasized that the IT campus in Nizhny Novgorod is not just a complex of buildings or a university, but a growth point for new meanings and technologies. These capsules will be given to the builders, they will be laid in the foundation of one of the IT campus facilities under construction.

According to Gleb Nikitin, the Nizhny Novgorod Region is one of Russia’s IT centers. The region is home to offices of about 2,000 companies working in the field of information and information and communication technologies.

“The industry currently employs about 38 thousand people, and even taking into account such an impressive figure, there is a shortage of personnel. In this situation, the implementation of the Neimark IT campus project is of strategic importance to us. It is important that the Neimark University began its educational activities in advance, last year, under two programs. Starting this year, training will be conducted under five programs, which were developed jointly with leading universities of the Nizhny Novgorod Region,” said Gleb Nikitin.

At UNN, Dmitry Chernyshenko assessed the pilot production of ultra-pure materials for microelectronics. At Lobachevsky University in Nizhny Novgorod, they plan to implement a full production cycle for high-purity substances. The project “Development of technologies for obtaining ultra-pure substances for the needs of the microelectronic industry and low-tonnage chemistry” is being implemented within the framework of the Priority-2030 program. The university also continues to conduct developments within the framework of advanced engineering schools aimed at creating space communications systems, radar, as well as developing a new component base and materials for microelectronics.

The Deputy Prime Minister was told about the university’s advanced developments in the field of artificial intelligence, aimed at developing health-saving technologies, increasing life expectancy, improving cognitive health and active longevity, as well as about developments in the field of neuromorphic and quantum technologies of artificial and hybrid intelligence and their implementation in the real sector of the economy.

At the Nizhny Novgorod Automotive Technical School (NAMT), Dmitry Chernyshenko talked to students and teachers. In particular, the ambassadors of “Professionalitet” answered the questions of the Deputy Prime Minister and described how they help schoolchildren with career guidance. And student Violetta Chernutskaya spoke about her career choice and explained why girls should learn to work on a lathe.

Since 2022, NAMT has been the center of the educational and production cluster “Mechanical Engineering” within the framework of the federal project “Professionality” of the national project “Youth and Children”. Within the framework of the project, new educational laboratories in mechatronics and robotics, industrial automation, automated design of technological processes were created. In total, the cluster “Mechanical Engineering” covers over 1.3 thousand students of six educational institutions of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Students consolidate the knowledge gained in the workshops of “Professionality” at the production sites of the Gorky Automobile Plant under the guidance of experienced mentors during practice, master classes, and the preparation of real projects.

. Pillen Signs Last of Bills to Protect Children Online

LINCOLN, NE – A package of bills aimed at protecting kids, and introduced on behalf of Governor Jim Pillen, are now law. He signed the last of the four bills, LB504, this morning. It helps protect the personal information of children who are online and gives parents the ability to monitor privacy and account settings. Three other bills were officially signed by the Governor last week. At today’s event, Gov. Pillen gave ceremonial copies of those bills to sponsoring senators and to Attorney General Mike Hilgers.

We’re never going to give up on our kids. They are our future. Today marks a gigantic step in protecting our kids,” said Gov. Pillen. “Collectively all these bills have an incredible impact on helping our teachers and giving our schools the opportunity to teach our kids, instead of being disrupted in the classroom. They also provide parents with the tools they need to protect our kids from big tech online companies and predators.”

Senator Carolyn Bosn said the purpose of LB504 was not about moderating content, but rather, ensuring that design features were made less addictive to young users.

“We’re not going to wait for social media companies to do that anymore. We’re going to take matters into our own hands. Like the Governor said, we’re not going to give up on our kids and I think this piece of legislation really prioritizes kids and their experiences online.”

As part of the Age-Appropriate Online Design Code Act, online service providers can be assed civil penalties, if they commit a violation.

Senator Rita Sanders said similarly the intent of her bill (LB504), was not to ban phones outright, but limit their negative impact in the classroom. She cited success in the Bellevue School District after restrictions were implemented there. She said LB140 will do the same for other school systems across the state.

“It’s about giving local school districts the ability to limit distractions and create learning environments where students and teachers can thrive,” said Sen. Sanders. “The data is clear — according to PEW research, 72% of high school teachers say cell phones are a top distraction. Over half of school leaders report academic and mental health setbacks due to phone use. Studies show that cutting screen time can reduce anxiety and depression in teens by 40%.”

Under LB140, school boards are required to adopt policies regarding student use of smart phones. Exceptions can be made for emergencies, health situations, educational purposes, with permission by the school board or school employee and as part of an individualized education program. Requirements need to be implemented for the 2025-2026 school year.

LB383, sponsored on the Governor’s behalf by Senator Tanya Storer, creates the Parental Rights in Social Media Act. In part, that legislation requires that social media companies verify the age of users and minors must get parental consent before creating their accounts.

“I am honored to be a part of this transformational legislative reform package to protect the minds of our youth and empower parents with the tools to parent their children in the digital world the same way they are able to do in the physical world,” said Sen. Storer.    “This is long overdue, and I am excited to see the positive impact this will have on the next generation. This is a major step in freeing our children from the claws of big tech and reversing the tragic trend of depression, anxiety and suicide we have seen in our youth.”

LB172, which was amended into LB383, tackles that issue of AI-generated pornography and creates criminal penalties for offenders. Bill introducer, Senator Brian Hardin, pointed to Nebraska’s leadership in creating protections – protections that have not yet been addressed at the federal level.

“Our grandparents and great-grandparents could never have envisioned the world that these leaders are bringing into locus. It takes forward leaning leadership to make this happen. We’re leading the way here in Nebraska.”

“The protections put into place with the passage of LB383 address the rapidly changing world which includes AI that can tragically be used to inflict harm on children through the production of generated child abuse material (CSAM),” added Attorney General Mike Hilgers. “I am grateful the Legislature recognized and addressed this threat with the passage of LB383.”

Noting that nothing was more important than putting kids first, Gov. Pillen offered his appreciation for the hard work undertaken by lawmakers to get all four bills passed in the current legislative session.

“These folks stood up to a lot of big tech companies coming in and saying, ‘we have this fixed, and we have that fixed,’ and nobody bought into that. I just can’t commend everyone enough for standing up and doing what’s right.”

  • MIL-OSI New Zealand: Tertiary Education – Te Pūkenga continues strong growth in international education amidst ongoing sector change

    Source: Te Pukenga

Thursday 29 May 2025 – Te Pūkenga continues strong growth in international education amidst ongoing sector change
Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology continues its growth trajectory in international student numbers, with enrolments, revenue, and international partnerships, all increasing strongly.
Te Pūkenga Chief Executive Gus Gilmore acknowledged the hard work of staff in achieving the results which include increases in international student numbers from 2,861 EFTS at the end of 2022, when polytechnics transitioned into Te Pūkenga, to 6,873 EFTS at year end 2024. At the same time, international revenue has increased nearly 60% from 2023 to 2025.
“Despite ongoing changes and uncertainty for our staff including almost 18 months of working towards disestablishment of Te Pūkenga and working to stand-up new entities, our international student numbers increased almost 30% between 2023 and 2024. This year so far, we are growing at 10.5% compared to last year.”
While international revenue was $187 million pre-Covid, it dropped to $47.5m million in 2022 post-pandemic. Te Pūkenga then accelerated the big task of building back from pandemic disruptions and border closures with revenue rebounding to $136 million in 2024. The 2025 forecast is $159 million.
“To be within less than 15% striking distance of pre-Covid numbers given the massive change the sector has been going through is a testament to the hard work of our teams, the quality of our programmes, growing global recognition of the importance of applied learning, and the strength of our institutes of technology and polytechnic brands offshore.”
International student growth is occurring throughout the country, including in the regions. This includes MIT up 25% (82 EFTS), Unitec up 20% (176 EFTS), Wintec up 44% (213 EFTS), Toi Ohomai up 13% (60 EFTS), NMIT up 30% (60 EFTS), and Ara up 16% (57 EFTS).
“Our focus continues to be on the delivery of quality education for all our students while supporting our divisions to promote the New Zealand vocational education and training sector offshore. As part of this, we are working with government agencies and sector stakeholders on building a stronger New Zealand brand for applied learning globally, and addressing immigration challenges so we can reduce barriers for international students choosing New Zealand as their study destination of choice,” says Mr Gilmore.
In addition, Te Pūkenga continues to actively expand and secure new institutional arrangements with partners from across the globe, including with international governments. These partnerships are critical pipelines for ongoing growth in student enrolments as well as broader education cooperation and sector resilience.
“These arrangements lay the groundwork for sustained future growth through mutual academic collaboration, academic exchange and student mobility. Critically, they strengthen our standing and reputation as a vocational education and training partner and destination, contributing to the revitalisation of New Zealand’s international education sector and economy.”
The large majority of international students across Te Pūkenga divisions come from Asia with India (49%), Sri Lanka (11%), and China (10%) the top three markets. We are also working to diversify student market sources.
“International students make a significant contribution socially and culturally to our institutes, campuses and student body. The international connections and understanding they help build are invaluable for a small island nation dependent on international trade and investment.”
The contribution of international student revenue to financial viability is increasingly more important as institutes of technology and polytechnic divisions are stood up as independent entities from January 2026.

  • MIL-OSI: MediPharm Labs Refuses to Answer Direct Questions Regarding Credible Securities Fraud Allegations Says Apollo Capital

    Source: GlobeNewswire (MIL-OSI)

Demands Management’s Board Nominees John Medland and Emily Jameson Withdraw Immediately or Face Public Complicity in Ongoing Alleged Systemic Violations of Securities Laws

URGES SHAREHOLDERS TO VOTE THE GOLD PROXY CARD “FOR” APOLLO CAPITAL’S SIX DIRECTOR NOMINEES AND DISREGARD MEDIPHARM LABS’ GREEN PROXY CARD

TORONTO, May 30, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Apollo Technology Capital Corporation (“Apollo Capital”), which together with its affiliates and associates collectively is one of the largest shareholders of MediPharm Labs Corp. (TSX: LABS) (OTCQB: MEDIF) (FSE: MLZ) (“MediPharm”, “MediPharm Labs”, or the “Company”), owning approximately 3% of the Company’s common stock, today condemned MediPharm Labs and its leadership team for their blatant failure and outright refusal to answer simple, direct, and highly serious questions concerning credible allegations of alleged extensive securities act disclosure violations committed by the MediPharm Labs’ Board of Directors (the “Board”) and management team.

In a deeply troubling display of evasion and obfuscation, MediPharm Labs’ senior management and current board—including Chairman Chris Taves (Managing Director and Head of Capital Markets for Asia at BMO), CEO David Pidduck (former CEO of OxyContin® Manufacturer Purdue Pharma), Shelley Potts, Chris Halyk, Keith Strachan, and recently resigned Audit Committee Chair Michael Bumby—have persistently refused to respond meaningfully to allegations of systemic and intentional securities fraud.

Apollo Capital asks incoming MediPharm Labs Board nominees John Medland and Emily Jameson: How long will you continue standing for election to a board that consistently refuses to answer basic questions about credible allegations of securities fraud? Are you prepared to potentially permanently stain your professional reputations by associating yourselves with an entity that has been accused of deliberately evading accountability and transparency?

Apollo Capital demands immediate, straightforward answers from MediPharm’s directors to the following questions:

Has MediPharm Labs changed its revenue recognition practices from those in place two years ago?

Is any purported growth simply a result of creative accounting designed to deceive shareholders?

Given the undeniable gravity and credible evidence surrounding these allegations, Apollo Capital reiterates its urgent call for an immediate, comprehensive investigation by regulatory authorities including the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Earlier this week, Apollo Capital raised broader concerns about the current Board’s commitment to ethical conduct, asking its fellow shareholders if they felt like Chairman Chris Taves properly fulfilled his fiduciary and moral duties and obligations to make them fully aware of David Pidduck’s history as CEO and VP of Marketing for OxyContin® Manufacturer Purdue Pharma, and whether they felt like details of Pidduck’s very recent past were MATERIAL facts that Chairman Taves should have made crystal clear before asking them on multiple occasions to vote in favour of Pidduck’s outrageous and off-market compensation package.

Apollo Capital’s nominees, experienced professionals known for corporate turnarounds, have clearly outlined their mission: to root out any corporate rot, restore credibility, and return value to shareholders.

MediPharm Labs shareholders deserve accountability, transparency and competent leadership—not empty claims, evasive tactics and an almost complete destruction of investor value.
